Thank you for reading!! I'm sorry for the devastation but I'm glad that you really liked it! I'm always surprised when the book affects people raised non-religious, but it's good! I'm happy the book is still readable and enjoyable even without an extensive background in gay angels or religious trauma or otherwise !

I assume you mean the new cover with Lucifer and Michael if you got it from a bookstore!!! The art was done by the incredible Hyde Angelus @iliothermia !!! I was about 10 years old when I first got introduced to httyd, which was, funnily enough, not even through the movies. The first thing httyd i watched was the episode "how to pick your dragon" from riders of berk and I was immediately hooked, not realising there was a movie connecting to it. I ended up watching about two episodes that day and kinda kept it in the back of my mind for a few months, until httyd2 released and I went on vacation to Germany. One afternoon, we didn't have anything to do so I watched the first movie for the very first time on my mom's laptop and was obsessed. I connected the dots to the little show I had watched earlier and got even more obsessed and it's all downhill from there haha. I guess I had just never seen something with so much depth and such interesting topic (and dragons. i have been obsessed with dragons for the majority of my life so this was just everything i needed haha)

Wil was sixteen, and caught in a labyrinth, and her wish was I want to be safe from that thing. She has a bubble she can retreat into during fights; witches can't enter it, but other magical girls can.

That's the inspiration for L'manberg— that Wil has a way to keep not just herself but her allies safe during fights. She might not be very good at combat but she's still a valuable member of the team as well as a charismatic leader, because her bubble means everyone is better protected, and can better defend one another. Like the sailor scouts, they're a team; fighting together keeps everyone safer. (And if Wil entertains daydreams about being the secret princess of the moon kingdom and saving the whole world with the power of being the most special, that would be incredibly embarrassing and she would never tell anyone about it.)

Unfortunately, the setup of PMMM is not the setup of Sailor Moon; magical girls are natural enemies in competition for a scarce resource, not natural allies, and if you're fighting over territory rather than fighting witches a protection bubble that other magical girls can enter is almost worse than useless. Wil loses control of the thing she built, and spirals into despair, and on the sixteenth of November she goes witch.

Her witch is beautiful, all tattered cloth and burnt edges; her name is Drosselmeyer and her nature is performance. She doesn't kill or even hurt anyone but herself that day: Phil's too fast, and too good at her job, for that.

(and then Clementine makes a wish that her sister be back, and her sister be happy, and, well. Kyuubey does its best, probably, we think.)
