October 25. 2281 Well, lugging the thrust control module all the way from the scrapyard, BACK to REPCONN was a huge waste of several hours. I managed to get the ignition fuel we needed after following a tip from Gibson. She had sold a canister of the stuff to a guy who well, was a bit too obsessed with his hazmat suit. Thankfully the canister was still intact or that whole area would be off limits to anything not highly resistant to radiation. I helped Chris get everything sorted and done, and then went up to initiate the launch sequence. A careful study of the ghoul's target and their flightpath let me adjust it to get them significantly closer. And with that, I may be the first person in over 200 years to have witnessed a rocket launch. What a time to be alive. Manny told me the Suit was headed to Boulder City next, and asked me to help out his friend Boone. I talked to the guy during night shift, dead wife sold to Legion slavers. He was 1st Recon Sniping, I know why he's confident she's dead. A mercy killing, to some at least. It didn't take much to guess that Jeannie May was the shiftiest person in town, busted into her floor safe (the lock was basically gone anyway), and found a Bill of Sale to the Legion. Absolutely fucking disgusting, and now, no more Jeannie May. Gonna take a rest and then head up towards Trading Post 188, it is not far out of the way and it might let me gear up better before this showdown. Oh, and The Suit? He has a name, Benny. Unofficial Gay Fates 2.1.0 Is here! This update adds in 64 new supports, as well as implemented the new Custom Endings I showed off before! This release features 105 custom endings.

Big thanks to sketchi, who not only commissioned the code patch for the endings from Tildehat, but also wrote quite a few of the ones in this update! Also shoutouts to Tru and Tsunny, who wrote most of the other endings implemented, as well as their usual help coding supports.

Speaking of coding supports, this update would not have remotely as many new supports were it not for Cherrycrow, Mathcat, and Sylvie, who did the bulk of the coding work this update!

i rly love thinking about potential awakening trio pairs in fates (not with eachother) and judging whether or not i think their partner would actually come back to ylisse with them. like i know all of the endings (with very few exceptions) have them go back, but lets be so real. they didnt proofread those endings. i dont buy half of them. like why would xander, mr definition of patriotism and being bound by duty, go to ylisse if it wasnt guaranteed you could come back? i dont really know if camilla would be willing to leave her family like that either, especially if she has a kid and they dont come back with them (i dont remember ophelia’s ending but soleil stays in nohr, right? …then again i generally disregard this too LMAO). corrin in conquest i can kiiiind of buy leaving? but… i dont know. it feels a bit off. rev corrin straight up doesnt leave though which makes way more sense to me.

but then i also think the awakening trio might be willing to compromise. some more than others. like i think i’d be easier to convince odin to stay than selena or laslow but also it would depend on the situation. i think if one of them married xander or ryoma (i love you rarepair shippers 😘), they’d all feel inclined to stay? but if it was someone like. benny (who i dont think would push too much to stay anyways tbh) they’d probably be like “nah pack it up babe were leaving”

but also some characters i think would jump at the opportunity to leave so there wouldnt even be a debate. azura i think would love a fresh start but ive talked about that before. i dont exactly buy into selena/subaki being canon but for what its worth i think he’d be down. leaving sakura would suck but aside from her there’s not much for him there and ditching his family would probably improve his mental health a lot. i think nyx would also be down to leave. i dont remember if i posted about it or if i j left it in my drafts but i feel like a fresh start where she can leave behind her past and work on her individual atonement without feeling constant guilt would help her tremendously (and uh. i do hc she goes with laslow and henry/tharja/laurent/SOMEONE breaks her curse in ylisse. thats so self indulgent tho). with no queen mikoto i think orochi and reina would be alright leaving, trusting hoshido to ryoma (ALSO HAVE YOU GUYS READ THAT ODIN/REINA FAN SUPPORT ON YOUTUBE? GOOD SHIT). also. and hear me out. i think takumi would be down to go. i think if theres peace in the land, and his siblings take over, he might be willing to leave it all behind and find a new purpose for himself in ylisse. thats just me tho. if you tell peri theres fun monsters to kill in ylisse she’d already have beaten them there

“I’m the mad Ophelia,” she shrieks, “and no lip from you!”

“Has Clark been on the set yet?” I inquire.

“No, and he’s not going to,” replies Carole, “except maybe for a few minutes. I’ve told you before he’s the one person who makes me self-conscious. I don’t mind if it’s just a walk-on scene, but if I have to do any hamming, I can’t stand for Pops to watch me. I blush and I break right out into a stutter!”

She’s not kidding. If Clark Gable wants to know what Carole Lombard is doing on the set these days, he’ll just have to do what you do – read the columns.

October 29, 2281 #2 What am I? Who am I? It all happened so fast... I knew I had to act quickly, delays would bring suspicion and suspicion would mean failure... But what if success has been failure? I should, I should process... From the top. After my thinking and gambling I went to the Tops. Convinced Swank, the #2 with the Chairmen, that Benny was a problem. He told me he would signal when Benny went up to his suite. I went and played some blackjack, got banned from gambling, again, and went upstairs to confront Benny. He told me, basically nothing. Tried to give me the slip too. I found his plan though, a Securitron hacked by a Follower (I don't know who yet). He calls himself Yes Man. His personality was rewired to always say yes. So, of course, he spilled everything. Benny's plan was to use the Platinum Chip to install Yes Man in House's place and take over the Strip... I decided, it was the only plan. I, I- I am better than House, I am certainly better than the NCR or the Legion. I had to act quickly. I returned to House, and just before giving him the Chip, I popped a Stealth Boy. Fought off the Securitrons and made for a terminal. I found my way to House's body, he was more machine than man, fully integrated into the life support capsule. He asked why, why would I waste centuries of planning? I told him, he was a remnant of the Old World, too egotistic, too self centered. Was I not the same? Those were his last words. I thought it poetic for some reason, taking the gun Benny used on me back in Goodsprings, pressing it to his head, pulling the trigger... Now I am, a major player, and House had an automated eulogy prepared. EVERYONE knows House is dead, and can easily narrow down that it was me. Maybe it would be just a rumor though? I was right though, the Platinum Chip was an advanced storage device. It held an update for the Securitrons to Mark II. Enabling their primary weapons, a pair of missile launchers, and a grenade machine gun... House would have been unstoppable, or damn near it. I did the right thing, I know this desert, I know its people. Now I just need to plan, I should get a Follower to assist me. I should speak to Ambassador Crocker of the NCR. The NCR will be a crucial ally to make, a two front war would be devastating, and an Indpendent Vegas will need a trade partner. I'm going to play it on the down low for now, I need to gather myself for the storm... Independent Vegas, it would be a dream come true. Fire Emblem: Fates AU of the day:

In Revelation, Azura explains that the pathway in the Bottomless Canyon opens or closes every few decades. (I presume simply going into Valla via the canyon, because otherwise the gang would never have been able to get out after Anankos’ defeat.) Since the path closes towards the end of Revelation, I presume it also does sometime during, or soon after, Conquest and Birthright.

Anankos by the end of Birthright/Conquest has lost his main puppet, Garon, and Hoshido and Nohr have made peace with each other via their new rulers, so they’re not going to drive each other to ruin and allow Anankos complete control of everything. But the path is closed, so no one can get into Valla to kill Anankos, either - if even they knew, which only Corrin in Conquest knows a tiny bit, besides the Awakening trio, who don’t ever do anything with that knowledge even in Revelation. (Love this game’s writing. Wonder if Hidden Truths was an afterthought.)

So with this backdrop, my concept: some 25 or 30 years after the war ends in Birthright/Conquest, the pathway in the Bottomless Canyon reopens, and Anankos decides to start shit again. And the children of everyone who survived the war (the kids being born after the war, fuck the Deeprealms) decide to, once and for all, figure out what the fuck is going on over there.

Me giving further details on this is complicated by the fact that I really didn’t set up many pairings in Birthright and Conquest, so I don’t know who most of the childrens’ mothers would be. And since again, I’ve decided everyone was born after the war and not tossed in the Deeprealms to marinate, they do not all have as prominent of Father Issues, and their age order would vary from the canon of who’s older/younger based on birth order and not whose Deeprealm moved the fastest. But here are the thoughts that I’m currently having:

BIRTHRIGHT

The children who wouldn’t be around on the Hoshido side are:

Shigure 

Kana & Midori

In Nohr, because of both plot deaths and my gameplay, we’d lose:

Siegbert

Velouria

Percy (because I fucked up and couldn’t get to Arthur in time and he died being counterattacked by whoever he provoked)

Soleil and Ophelia (because the gang fucked off back to Ylisse)

Everyone else will presumably exist.

(Though I think at least Ignatius would have no reason to be involved in this crap, Benny is a random border guard that Corrin met once, he never joins an army, he’s just gonna go home when this shit is over.)

But since I didn’t do many pairings in Birthright, I have no idea who the Hoshido princesses might marry and so who else would be Shiro and Kiragi’s cousins.

(Also, over in Nohr, Camilla’s solo endings in the routes she’s playable has her just adopting a bunch of children, so presume there’s just a gaggle of her children added to the canonical children. (I guess she could marry...man, who’s even left over there out of the men. Niles or Benny? I just mentioned Benny has no reason to reinvolve himself in any of this. I guess Camilla could also marry Silas, since he returns to Nohr.)

The biggest question here is who inherits Yato - Shiro’s getting Raijinto and Ryoma makes it clear to Corrin that she is not pawning her sword off on his son (though she tries). Kiragi gets Fujin Yumi. Forrest inherits Brynhildr. I decree that one of Camilla’s kids gets Siegfried, against her wishes that they not learn to fight. So either Hinoka or Sakura’s child, or... fuck, Asugi might get the Yato. Corrin and Saizo are never romantically involved and certainly not married, but their relationship is weird and so Corrin might try to pass the Yato over that way.

(Saizo trying to train his son as a ninja, stealthy and discrete, and Corrin coming in like “hey kid want my giant fuckoff magic sword, since Ryoma won’t let me give it to Shiro” and Saizo’s like “you have five other siblings who all have children, go away.”)

The age order of the royal children is probably like Shiro -> Camilla’s eldest -> Kiragi -> Forrest 

(Leo: “I don’t have time for marriage, I have a kingdom to reconstruct from the ground up!”)

How well does fighting Anankos go without the Valla royal line’s magic necklace and song? Probably not great. But at least with Brynhildr and Siegfried along for the ride with the Blazing Yato, they’ve got a chance for an upgrade to the Omega Yato to beat his ass.

(Not that there are many potential marriage candidates left in Hoshido. We’ve got Subaki, Azama, and Hayato, and I don’t like Azama and I don’t like Rhajat. I think I like Hinoka and Subaki, and I guess Sakura is allowed to marry Hayato if Rhajat isn’t going to grow up to be a creepy fucking weirdo stalker to her aunt.)

Kana gets Yato, Siegbert obviously has Siegfried, Forrest has Brynhildr. Caeldori could be a kinshi knight and get Fujin Yumi - honestly, I had both Hinoka and Sakurai wield yumis, so either one of their daughters could get it, and then someone has to learn to use a sword for Raijinto.

In this route, Kamui can at least be like “there’s something at the bottom of the Bottomless Canyon” and point the gang in the right direction because she knows the absolute bare minimum - I guess she would probably come with them to tell them the little bit she learned from Azura, and because if there’s a group of children going off to investigate, like, half of them are part of her family. She wants to help out since she knows two (2) things and that’s way more than anyone else alive.

I do not have a final thought to wrap this up. Just like. Heirs of Birthright/Heirs of Conquest, where the children of the survivors unite the way their parents couldn’t and finally lay this nightmare to rest.

Marriage is career enough

Being Mrs. Gable more important than film roles, says Carole

Mrs. Clark Gable is the happiest woman in Hollywood. And Carole Lombard doesn’t give a darn whether she ever makes another picture.

Daring to defy the Hollywood jinx on marital happiness, Carole made the statement to me in her portable dressing room on the set of “To Be or Not To Be” - the first picture she’s made in more than a year.

“No matter what career women tell you,” she said, “you cannot find happiness in a career. Pictures are just a side issue to me now. If one comes up that interests me – all right. But I don’t care if I never make another one, and certainly I’ll never make a picture that interferes with my married life.”

“Do you mean to say you find life on the Gable farm satisfying enough to make up for the loss of the limelight you bathed in so long?” I asked.

Seek a large ranch

“Gosh, yes! Farm life is the most exciting I’ve ever lived. We don’t sit in the house and listen to the radio. Clark’s running the tractor or building a fence – I’m feeding the chickens and counting the eggs!”

Coming from Carole, this was funny enough. But for her terrific sincerity it might’ve been ludicrous, for she was costumed as Ophelia - her long golden tresses garlanded with flowers, her streamlined figure lost under a flowing Grecian gown of white and gold.

“We’re shopping for a big ranch now,” she went on, “and this is going to be commercial. Believe me, it will be thrilling when we start raising cattle… Clark and I hunt and fish. We travel a lot, too. We have a gorgeous time!“

While the Gables were on their last hunting trip, producer Alexander Korda sent Carol the script of “To Be Or Not to Be,” urging her to read it. Clark was due back anyhow, to prepare for his next MGM film, and so, Carole said, “I couldn’t resist it. It was a divine comedy. To play opposite Jack Benny was fine enough, but another big inducement was Ernst Lubitsch directing.

They might aspire

“All the 10 years we were on the same lot at Paramount, I never had a chance to work under him. He’s marvelous and he’s the greatest actor on the set. Every night I go home tell the old man (“pappy” is another of her pet names for the glamorous Gable) all the amazing things Lubitsch has done that day.”

In “To Be or Not to Be,” Carole Lombard and Jack Benny are the Lunt and Fontanne of Poland – who do a scene from “Hamlet.“ 

The Clark Gables might aspire to be the Lunt and Fontanne of the movies. They could afford to have their own producing company, such as Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks once had. Their joint salaries approach a million a year. They could make their home represent what Pickfair once stood for in the film capital.

But Clark and Carole had different plans. They started life in a modest farmhouse on a model 70-acre ranch in San Fernando Valley, purchased from Raoul Walsh. They remodeled and enlarged the barn, stables, and built model chicken houses. Gable painted these, as well as the fences, with a spray gun while Carole was having a wonderful time dashing about in the station wagon looking for antiques, or making gingham curtains for the kitchen windows, and hemming the ruffles for the organdy curtains in her bedroom.

They met and laughed

I’ll wager she stuck her tongue in her cheek – it’s a mannerism of hers anyhow – when she recalled those boudoir curtains Bill Haines made from a black lace shawl which she had in her former home on upper Hollywood Boulevard!

When she met Clark Gable, he was estranged from his second wife, Rhea Langham Gable. She amused Clark – they had a great time laughing together, outdoing each other’s gags. Clark had never had a woman as a playmate.

He grew up with an inferiority complex, which was responsible for his marrying two mature wives. He first married Josephine Dillon, dramatic teacher – she taught him how to act. After the divorce, he married the wealthy widow, Rhea Langham, who taught him how to act – in drawing rooms. Unsure of himself then, he needed a helpmate more than a playmate.

Not until Clark reached a certain height and could afford to play, did he meet capricious, prank-loving Lombard. They laughed themselves into love. Each has a sense of humor that lights every hour of life for them.

Carole tells me that instead of going gunning for the gossips who are constantly “separating“ them, they laugh the loudest!
