PSA: i keep seeing posts about staying cool in extreme heat that include advice like "gatorade is bad actually!" and "don't drink fruit juice it'll just dehydrate you!" and neither of these are true!

regarding fruit juice: there's apparently a misconception that Any Sugar At All will dehydrate you, and that's simply not true. yes, sugar will make you pee more when consumed in large amounts, but 1) the natural sugar in fruits won't do this to you 2) great news! a lot of fruit juices exist without any added sugar in them! 3) honestly even having a glass of the fruit juice with added sugar won't completely dehydrate you as long as you're also drinking water throughout the day. if its hot you deserve a cold treat of a drink!!! can't go wrong with fruit juice!!!

regarding gatorade: maybe this isn't an every day drink, but guess what: if it's 110F/40C or hotter outside, and you don't have AC, or you're moving around a lot outside of the AC, and you're sweating buckets: that's when you drink a gatorade.

gatorade exists to replenish all the electrolytes (salt) and glucose (sugar) that you sweat out. YES it is meant for athletes to drink during intensive work outs and not necessarily for people who aren't doing that kind of exercise. BUT GUESS WHAT! when you're sweating buckets because you had to walk to the bus in extreme heat, that's intensive exercise. please feel free to drink a gatorade after that! that's its intended use case!!!!

no: neither of these drinks should be a total replacement for water. but drinking a lot of water and then treating yourself to a fruit juice with lunch is a good idea!!! drinking a gatorade becuase you just had to walk for 20 minutes in the heat is a good idea!!!

SPOILERS FOR TECHROT ENCORE AHEAD, CONCERNING ON-LYNE

DE with On-Lyne could have very easily gone the stereotypical route of "beloved boyband that advertises brotherhood but secretly all hate each other's guts" but on brand with their overarching themes of love and family went in the complete opposite direction. Like the Coda are clones, but they parrot the boys' real thoughts and feelings. And despite the imperfection of that cloning their fierce bond of brotherhood endures.

For one, all of them are so so protective of Packet and it makes me want to cry. This bit from Harddrive especially just has me dreading how horrible the media was to all of them but him especially as he is the youngest.

Packet also has a line during his final confrontation talking about the panic attacks he suffers, which I can only assume is a result of constantly being scrutinized by media outlets and their label. (edit: ITS DJ-ROM THAT SAYS THIS NOT DRILLBIT) has a line during his final confrontation which I think is related to that where he's clearly in the context of an interview and is defensive about questions regarding their personal lives, and even volunteers to answer any of those questions in the others' place.

And while they are all especially protective of Packet, they look out for each other just as much. Packet himself has lines talking about how happy he is that Harddrive punched someone out for making fun of him and another expressing just how worried he is about Zeke and the amount of pressure he is under as the band's leader.

Drillbit similarly talks about how much respect he has not just for Zeke but for DJ-Rom and how much hard work he puts into keeping things running well with the band - how while Zeke is the charismatic public face of the band - Rom, while quiet, is the true brains behind them maneuvering their predatory label's demands.

And then DJ-Rom himself talks about his own bitterness about record labels and how exploitative they are of young talent. He also mentions his familiarity with the industry, and how he uses that knowledge to keep the boys safe from predatory behavior within their label.

Which in hindsight adds more terrible context to why their manager decided to turn to the Technocyte Coda (aka Generative AI) to fully clone the band so they could keep making music with their likeness but stop paying them. DJ-Rom was clearly such a persistent and stubborn thorn in their side in regards to blocking their attempts at shorting the boys what they were owed that their manager resorted to cutting the human element out entirely.

Rom also during my confrontation with him confesses to the fact that he knows how annoying and shallow people view pop music and them by extension, but how it's shallow in itself to see pop music as not "real music/art" and that what he and the boys do has just as much value for all the work they put into it. Which is frankly a message that a lot of us should take to heart, (myself included frankly).

As always DE has delivered on the lore and now that I've converted one of each of the boys I can't wait to resume my farming of them to hear more of it.

Random Warframe 1999 thought:

Imagine for a hot second that for some reason, The Drifter runs into On-Lyne.

Imagine if during a techrot mission it somehow spills over to one of the safe zones and On-Lyne happens to be there.

The Dirfter and their chosen warframe fighting to kill the techrot but only notice too late that it somehow got to a civilian area where On-Lyne where performing and the techrot almost gets them but the Drifter kills it and saves them.

Harddrive stands before the others, ready to at least buy the others time to escape.

To them, the warframe looks like techrot in human form. It stands there for a good minute and it doesn't do anything. It tilts its head in a peculiar fashion, is it...curious?

The techrot person slowly steps towards them, raises its in surrender, trying to convey it doesn't mean harm.

Zeke says its time to run, Drillbit says to wait, it's trying to communicate with them, DJ Rom looks in disbelief and Packet is looking from behind Hardrive in mobid curiosity.

The humanoid techrot halts it's movement, a hand slowly reaches to its back, On-Lyne tenses, only for it to bring up their Album. It points to the Album, then to them as if asking if it was theirs.

It's Packet that speaks first, he tells the techrot that's their album indeed, and asks it if it wants an autograph or something.

The techrot nods enthusiastically.

DJ Rom loses it, starts laughing his ass off, who would've guessed the techrot is a fan of theirs. Zeke tells him to knock it off, Drillbit is bemused, and Harddrive took a second to process before joining DJ Rom.

Packet steps up to the humanoid techrot and Zeke yells at him to get back but Packet ignores him. As soon as he got to it he realized how scary it looks up close, its face has no features. No eyes, no mouth.

He wonders if the techrot takes your mouth first so you don't scream.

Packet takes the album from the techrot hands and brings out a pen, he waves the others to come closer so they could sign it and after some hesitation, they do.

Zeke steps up and takes the album and pen, and he looks at the techrot with unsure look.

"So, uh, you got a name we address this to?"

The techrot freezes, as if it didn't expect the question.

Zeke wonders if he messed up royally before the techrot looked around for a bit, grabbed a piece of rubble before it carved a name on it with its hands and showed it to him and the rest.

It was barely illegible but it spelled A-O-I

"Aoi? Is that your name?" Drillbit asks but the techrot shakes its head, so Zeke asks if its for a friend and the techrot nods.

"Oookay, then!"

Zeke signs it, then passes it to the others to sign it as well. They wrote down a thank you to Aoi for being fan and a thank you to her friend for saving them.

Zeke gives it back and the techrot carefully put it back from whatever pocket they pulled it out of. The bands comes together to thank the techrot again and the techrot waves them goodbye before turning away and jumping on an atomicycle that appeared out of thin air and speeding away.

Harddrive puts his hands on his hips, and looks at fading silhouette of their newly made techrot friend.

"So we are never telling anyone about this are we?"

"Yea, no"

"No way"

"Hell no!"

"Absolutely not!"
