I keep imagining this scene/scenario—before they’re official. When they are Definitely Not Together but also it’s pretty obvious they’re Not NOT Together.

The kids (Alicia (Buck’s daughter from a Peruvian flame he only found out about like six weeks before moving to Texas, for those who aren’t familiar with the Texas!Buddie Lore) and Chris) get sick or food poisoning or something and Buck’s sick, too, so Eddie has to pull a double to cover Buck’s shift and Buck can’t go bc he’s sick and also someone has to take care of the kids.

They hem and haw about finding child care for Chris but then Buck suggests he just stays at Eddie’s so that Eddie can go to work and not worrying about finding someone to watch a sick Christopher. He’s just being a good friend :)

It’s the 48 hours from Hell—the kids are sick and whining and uncomfortable and Buck feels like shit himself. Eddie is at work, stressed as hell, sleep deprived, and missing Buck like crazy (although at this point he’d never admit that out loud)

Eddie comes home after the craziest shift in a while to find Buck leaned back in the couch, the kids knocked the fuck OUT in his arms. Eddie sits with Buck and pulls Alicia under his arm—Chris is under Buck’s.

They greet each other, get to talking about their respective past two days, and Buck bemoans the thought of having to wake Alicia up, packing her up into the car, and driving all the way back to their apartment.

And Eddie, running on about six minutes of sleep and a waning adrenaline rush from the shift, suggests, “Should just move in.”

And Buck laughs because Eddie is SUCH a jokester

But Eddie, while the most sleep deprived he’s been since his discharge from the army, is deadass serious. “I’m not kidding. You stay on our couch more than your own beds. Throwing away money on that apartment when you already have a home…”

Buck is basically like 👁️👄👁️ and is about to tell Eddie not to say things he doesn’t mean when he hears light snoring. And he decides that maybe this is a conversation fr tomorrow and drifts off to sleep.

🪄what is your post-writing/sharing aftercare? How do you take care of yourself or celebrate yourself when you've finished a fic?

OH GOD! I need to get better about this. Buttttt back in the day when I was just another faceless writer stuck at home with nothing to do during the shut down, I would read a fic. It replenished the bees in my brain.

But in all seriousness podficcing is such a thankless job and it should be done on projects that give the podficcer as much joy as possible.

💋when you leave comments on a fic, do you want to hear back from the writer?

It's not a want per se? I don't respond to comments because I find it takes up A LOT of my energy to respond and then I worry about sounding super repetitive and then all that energy gets zapped from actually writing. Plus it helps just protect my own peace and is good practice for when I eventually become published since reviews become readers' spaces that I wouldn't and shouldn't have much control over. So I don't mind when authors don't respond! But I also love when they do! Sometimes it turns me into a cat and then you can't get rid of me (looking at you my beloved @buddie-buddie )

Snippet Sunday

I was tagged by @dear-massacre for snippet sunday. Have a smidge my Reverse Bang ;)

“Stiles, what are we doing?” Scott asked as he sat down with his own food. 

“Eating soup?”

Scott gave him a look. “I’m serious. We shouldn’t be crashing someone’s celebration.”

“One –” Stiles put the spoon to his mouth, slurping down a large chunk of meat and vegetables with the broth. “– we were invited by the chief of the village to join; it would be rude not to. Two, you were just saying how hungry you were. And Three –”

But Stiles never got to finish three. His eyes instead wandered over to where someone was carrying new firewood over his bare olive-skinned shoulders. Tall, muscular, and the most handsome man Stiles had ever seen in his life, it took everything in Stiles’ power not to gape and point at him. Dark hair tied up in a low ponytail to keep the long locks out of his eyes, thick beard over his chiseled jaw, body hair over his chest and arms like a carpet, and (from what Stiles could tell) wearing nothing but a kilt and shoes.

At first, hunk-lander walked past Stiles and Scott without so much as a glance in their direction, but he then paused and turned to glance over at Stiles with bright green eyes.

“Ye're actually...” His voice was lighter than expected, but the brogue sent a shiver over Stiles’ spine as he spoke. “Ye're here.” The man’s face was a mask of surprise, like he knew exactly who Stiles was and hadn’t expected to see him today– but Stiles didn’t know who he was. Had they met in a different town before?

“Here I am, what are your other two wishes?” Stiles winked at the man, his voice just a bit flirtatious. “I like your kilt.”

He wasn’t bad at flirting, but Lydia called him as subtle as a train. Sometimes it worked in his favor, but most of the time the person didn’t appreciate his type of forward flirting. But it seemed the mysterious man was one of the few who did.

Dark eyebrows quirked up at Stiles' comment and a hint of something flashed behind those green eyes. 

“Derek!” Talia called from the threshold of the house. “Hurry up, lad!”

With a last glance at Stiles (and what Stiles thought was a glimmer of a smile), Derek turned from them and walked toward the house with the pile of firewood. Stiles caught a glimpse of a triskelion tattoo between his taught shoulder blades as he disappeared into the door after the chief. Stiles could feel Scott’s eyes on him now and turned to see his friend’s sly smile.

“Now who’s flirting on a backpacking trip?”

“Shut up.” Stiles rolled his eyes and spooned more of the soup into his mouth. “It’s all a show, right? Might as well have fun with it.”

“Sure,” doubted Scott, but didn’t push any further.
