from the same wip as this snippet of mine, some sentimental revalink pining:

Link stared out at the horizon, acutely aware of Revali reclining on the stone wall next to him. When the wind blew just right, the primary feathers on Revali’s wing brushed slightly against his wrist. Link sat stiff; as long as neither of them acknowledged it, they could bask in this a little longer.

So of course, Revali had to break the silence. He never quite could sit with silence. “Link,” he started, an edge of…something tentative creeping in on his voice—

Link pulled his hand away. Lifted it up to brush a lock of hair behind his ear, trying to ignore the way his heart pounded. “It’s late,” he managed, and stood. Revali was watching him, a wide-eyed, cracked-open look on his face that made Link want to throw himself back down at Revali’s knees.

But he couldn’t. Whatever this was (Link knew what it was, what he wanted it to be), it couldn’t happen. Link had a role to play. A destiny to fulfill, a world to save, an existence laid out for him by the goddesses that didn’t include…any distractions.

Link swallowed. Revali was still looking at him, eyes locked on Link’s face in a way that almost seemed desperate. But all Link could force out was, “They’ll be serving dinner.”

At that, Revali huffed. A little of his usual sharp affect returned to his expression. “How just like you, to be preoccupied with dinner.” Yet the halting quality to his voice remained. Link felt guilty; but it wasn’t as if he had any other options. “Do you ever think about anything but food?”

Link was struck by the urge to laugh. If only Revali knew the half of it…

“Sometimes,” was all Link said, and watched the way the sunset seemed to set Revali’s dark feathers alight.

I know exactly what you mean as a bisexual who reads a lot of zelink fanfics. I feel like it's the most glaringly obvious when it comes to nsfw fics. It really brings people's biases about gender roles out when they write smut. You can kind of immediately tell when a fic was written by someone who was brought up with conservative christian ideas and still has those ideas vs a queer or non-religious author by how they approach things. It's very obvious. It's suddenly "no sex before marriage" or something of that ilk or it's suddenly painfully obvious the author has only watched porn aimed at men and has no other reference about how sex works. I also can't help but notice people are afraid to state the male character "moaned" it always has to be "groaned" for some reason. Like "moaning" is somehow less masculine or something? I also hate when people make Link a complete horndog. I don't mind people giving him the occasional realistic intrusive teenage boy thought, that's just embarrassingly relatable when done right, but when people make him this sex god who goes around sleeping with everyone in castle town or something to make him more "manly" I just. Ugh. I wish they'd realize there is nothing wrong or "less manly" about a guy having no experience with girls. To say nothing of how they make Zelda uncharacteristically meek and demure. People seem to be weirdly afraid of ~emasculating~ the androgynous elf guy who canonically crossdresses or ever letting him be vulnerable, something that is important in relationships.

YES LITERALLY ALL OF THIS. esp the thing abt it being so much more prevalent in nsfw fics. like they really need to make link this hypermasculine virile animalistic sex god, and zelda this shy fainting flower to his manliness. like this is zelda, did we even play the same game if you think she’s not headstrong and enthusiastic and shes Anything but meek to link in the memories, and link is just a goofy somewhat-guy, i just cant reconcile this cishet manly man version of link w his softness w her in the cutscenes and, yknow, all the gender he has going on. ive even seen fics when its like, the idea of link being Not cishet gets played for laughs, like “his masculinity being tested” by anal(????? hello??) and zelda full on laughing at link for having kissed a boy once and link denying it as a phase when he was young…… girl im sorry but not even getting into the homophobia there, zelink is (t4t) bi4bi it just is. you can really tell when the authors still buy into cisheteronormativity from the characterizations getting put second to the gender roles, and from even the descriptions of their bodies being almost objectifying to match conventional beauty standards from movies (its always link’s bulging rippling muscles or zelda’s feminine curves and “womanhood”). its so jarring to get used to less cishet romance writing in fanfic compared to some mainstream media, only to get reminded that those cishet romance writers are here too lmao. at this point i just stick to the few zelink authors who actually get them right and dont really go diving through the whole tag

3. What’s a fic idea that you have but haven’t written yet?

ok ive technically started it but i havent gotten far at all, i posted its working title on here once “hi its revalink and welcome to mcdonalds” lmao (bc it was Supposed to be a joke and then. spiraled). BASICALLY the idea is that revali works at a restaurant as a delivery person. hes the fastest strongest flier in all rito village, so this restaurant lowkey has him as a selling point lol. and meanwhile revali is putting up w this bc he needs money, bc hes the champion who isnt royalty, he needs to like. eat and stuff. but, gasp!!, zelda and her scientist entourage and link show up on a really busy holiday, and link volunteers himself to cook at the restaurant revali works at, which revali is horrified and angry abt at first until revali realizes that theres more to link than it appears on the surface, not only is link a good cook but hes so considerate to revali throughout the day…… cue feelings. cue more feelings. cue vaguely romantic dinner as the two of them stew in their strange new camaraderie w each other <3

9. What’s your favorite line(s) or scene(s) that you have written?

its hard to choose a favorite but i really wanted to talk abt this line from carry us through winter. its just a tiny two sentences but i really liked what i put in here.

i dont usually go for overly anthropomorphic language for anything that isnt actually human, but here i built up from “brushing through link’s hair” and then used the phrase “caressing link’s face”, which, “caressing” is kinda a really strong, affectionate, humanized word for it just being the wind. only for the next sentence to not have the wind lifting them into the sky, but revali. the wind and revali are one and the same in that sentence—and so also were in the previous sentence. aka its revali’s own personal touch caressing link’s face. gay people real <33

i must admit i am horrible at commenting and take like 1-3 business days to process my feelings on writing. HOWEVER. please know that i’m a bit of an ass and rather picky when it comes to what fic i enjoy, and i really really like yours. it flows in a way that feels good to read, and carries you with the story and characters instead of making you feel like you’re just reading some prose. if that makes literally any sense. anyway. your writing is appreciated, i hope you know!

hey, i genuinely really really appreciate this message❤️ i was just getting extra down on myself bc it was like 1 am, but i do admit that i spend more time looking at my stats and comparing myself to others than is definitely healthy. im also pretty picky abt what fic i like so it feels nice to pass someone else’s standards lol. flow and pacing and character(ization and pov) are all things ive spent a long time trying to get better at, so im super happy that youve noticed those aspects of my writing. thank you so much for this seriously💞💞💞💞
