How I write
A wild writing game appears! I'm finally getting around to participating in this writing game. Thanks to @lowbudgethighfantasy for tagging me! Let's get started …
Is there a snack you like to eat while writing?
If there are any snacks in my room they get eaten during writing, this means mostly chocolate, however, I also like to cut up apples to eat during writing. I find that eating helps me focus but I often don't get around to preparing anything so I mostly work without snacks.
What time of day do you usually write?
It depends. If I'm motivated I get to writing right after getting up but when I'm less hyped about a WIP (usually when it comes to editing) I write in the afternoon or evening. Evenings are great for writing because there isn't much else to do to use as excuse to procrastinate.
Where do you write?
Mostly at my desk in my room, but good weather can get me out of the house and onto the porch as well. I like to write at desks, having my laptop on my knees doesn't work for me.
How often do you write a new thing?
I tend to stick to one project until at least a couple of drafts are done before starting something new. When I'm working on longer pieces I will write short stories while also working on the long piece, but ideas for full novels get written down and postponed. I'm not very good with working on multiple things at the same time, I fear that would lead to nothing ever getting finished.
Do you listen to music while you write?
Rarely. Music distracts me, I only use it to get into the mood for writing. I listen to instrumental music (mainly soundtracks) and when I'm in the mood I turn the music off so that I can fully focus on writing.
Paper or laptop?
Laptop. I write ideas and notes on paper if I'm not around my laptop but since all my work will have to be in the digital format for me to use it, it is better to write it on my laptop in the first place. Furthermore, writing by hand is simply to slow in comparison. I did write a few short stories on paper, though, the journal I used for that was too beautiful to go empty and I had time to kill at school. I didn't want to take my laptop along because it is quite heavy so the journal was the next best thing.
Do you have a special pre-writing ritual?
I don't really have a ritual. If I'm not inspired I listen to soundtracks before writing and I often check twitter, but that's more a distraction than a help.
What do you do to get into the writing?
Soundtracks or watching YouTube videos on how to get motivated but often I just have to force myself to open the document and get the first couple words down. Getting started is the hardest part for me. When nothing else works I go outside and pet my cat before going back to my laptop.
Do you have a reward system for word counts?
I'm very ambitious and simply reaching my word count for the day is a reward for me. When I've written more than I planned on I reward myself by relaxing the rest of the day.
Is there anything else about your writing process your readers don’t know?
There is not that much to know about it besides that I'm a pantser, which means I don't really know where any of my stories are going before I have written them. When I have an outline it is almost guaranteed that the story won't follow it at all. In the end I'm as clueless as my reader about where my stories are going to go before I have them written down.
Thanks for reading. I would like to tag @wombatqofdoom , @karrenterrywrites and @ejdoylewrites to do this as well. Have fun!

Wandering through some posts...did you try out any fountain pens?
Not yet, my birthday is next week and I’m going to try and get a disposable one to just see if I like it at all before springing for a refillable one. Maybe the Zebra disposable? (Any recommendations?)
I think the retractable ones from Writech are gorgeous, though 🥺
