DIRECTOR'S NOTE • Nov. 2023
You can't go home. This play has a particular care for and interest in its victims. The resident
inciting event is endless. tragedy is much more concerned with footnotes than it is with gods.
well acquainted with what happens afterward, storytellers claim they can't diverge from what's
written: resist. rage against what must be. tell a story about war without talking
about love. survive its aftermath. fail to find resolution. make this suffering
a home. There's no breaking this chain— fate, as always, gets its way.
Poetry assembled from the program of an Oresteia production. Nov. 2023.

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.
#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility#of an afterlife being located on the moons#Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some#other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central#ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife#Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they#need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through#this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead#make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like#in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living#and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink#and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth#to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as#barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located#behind the moons and stars) like everyone else#And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be#partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so#he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the#transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda#Go Get Him#Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

See, I've seen a lot of comparisons like this. But coming from someone who has absolutely no skin in this game, from an outside perspective it's looked a lot more like a guy got in a car and all of a sudden someone ran up and started banging on his windows shouting that he shouldn't drive that car.
And the guy in the car was like "I'm just going down the street, and the car is the easiest way to do that", and the guy outside was like "um actually, if you can't enjoy the feeling of running then you shouldn't be going places, and taking joy in the freedom of movement is literally what makes us human and your soulless machine can never replace that feeling."
And the guy in the car was like "okay, but my leg is broken and I can't walk." And the guy outside was like "Nice try but I know plenty of people with broken legs who hop and crawl along the ground without having to use that gas-guzzling pollution machine, so actually YOU'RE the ableist for suggesting that you need it to move."
And the guy in the car was like "well this is actually a race car and while of course it's not the same as a marathon, driving a race car takes its own set of skills and talents that I've practiced and developed over time", and the guy outside was like "yeah right, everyone knows that driving a car doesn't take talent, just putting your foot on the gas doesn't make you a racer."
And the guy in the car was like "okay, well, I'm gonna keep driving I think", and the guy outside was like "oh my god you "drivers" are SO pathetic, you just can't stand that everyone knows that you're talentless hacks who don't understand the true meaning of racing. Why can't you just leave us real racers alone?!"

I was explaining black butler from Sebastians perspective to my mom and its accidentally one of the weirdest things ive said
"imagine you promise a really delicious looking chicken to help it take revenge on someone, and after you help it, you can eat it. but then it turns out you have to be this chickens butler and also the chicken turns out to be really annoying and names you after his pet which also happens to be your least favorite animal."

A generic response to people who call Mormonism "a cult":
your desire to help others is very admirable and greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, calling someone's beliefs a "cult" without doing enough research to understand the real harm that cults do to individuals or examining whether the beliefs they hold to actually qualify under those harmful practices, beliefs, and methods of control is likely to be more damaging both to that individual and to their willingness to consider your point of view than just expressing concern for them as a human being. Please consider using your words more carefully and perhaps not applying the concept of something defined by "isolation from the outside world and a high degree of control over members' lives" to a church where you can literally just stop showing up any time you want! (That's what it means to become inactive in the LDS church-- you decided to stop going. Many people do it for years or decades at a time, or even the rest of their lives! It is not hard to do.) It is so minimizing to actual victims of cults when this comparison is made and it's very important that if you care enough to want someone to change their perspective on a thing that they value, you need to keep in mind that using insulting or degrading language toward that thing is in fact more likely to result in that person deciding to value it even harder!

911 twitter has somehow not even jokingly re-normalized one of the men in a gay relationship being treated as a woman but in a way that’s fancily worded enough that you’ll get shot dead if you point that out
LMAOOOO like yeah dgmw i love wifing/impregnating buck i'm not particularly invested in ensuring i'm doing everything As Progressively As Possible or escaping the strictures of heteropatriarchy in my fake 911 ship or whatever and i'm perfectly self-aware about that and don't claim to do so (i hope it comes across that i write them and analyze them as just some guys though). but there is something poetically obnoxious and also hilarious about trying to get all intellectual about the idea that a character who is a man is actually "politically" a woman In The Show. whatever that means. and that this is somehow a valuable analysis. can you just do fun headcanons and make fun of things in a normal way like the rest of us

Idk how to describe the conflict I’m going through with the hottest qunari I’ve ever made. I look at him and think, god you’re so hot you deserve to be taken to pound town with someone but I can’t decide who he romances. I think the problem is I look at him and wish I could romance him.

hihi- I'm Athena from @twst-aceofhearts
i'm mainly a writer blog, but i've started this series under #athena natural habitat series :P
here's some reference-

i wanted to do one of Al (you? dunno how to refer-) and Floyd
i'm here to ask, what animal would Alan/you be?
( ˶°ㅁ°) !!!??!?!?!
HI ATHENA!!! THANK YOU FOR ASKING, THIS IS SUCH A CUTE IDEA DAWWW 💖
This question is really interesting because I haven't really ever thought about any imagery that relates to Alan (the yuusona), so in my head they're just a shrimp like how Yuu typically is.
But!! If they had to be their own unique animal, then I'd say they be a black cat! but like... the opposite of round chubby grim. the kind to look elegant and pretty but act like an absolute menace.
So... either some kind of shrimp or a black cat! I'm fine with either!

I don't think I'm kind. I think I'm nice, or at least nice in the loosest definition.
I think a kind person would not want to lash out and hurt people back as much as I want to sometimes.
I think a kind person would not question whether I truly feel empathy or if I just don't like the social consequences of hurting someone as much as I do
Niceness is a better descriptor because you don't need to be good to be nice. It doesn't have the ramifications that kindness has. And even then i'm not always nice.
