if youre considering using a mobility aid, youre probably thinking about getting a cane. even if it seems like youre issues arent bad enough, you should probably still consider other mobility aids. please look into the pros and cons of several different mobility aids, especially in conjunction with your specific disability/diagnosis/needs.

i got a cane at first because i thought my issues were "mild" and therefore i needed a "mild" mobility aid. but canes are moreso for stability than support. i damaged my wrist and worsened my scoliosis by deciding to use a cane without an educated opinion.

i now use forearm crutches primarily, a rollator for longer outings, and a wheelchair for worse days and longer events. dont make the same mistake as 16-year-old me. dont choose your mobility aid based on palatability, consider your needs and address your internalized ableism if need be.

jally first meeting/first impressions

So Johnny being in the gang before Dallas means that I think he would meet him along with the gang so I think soda/darry/two-bit/whoever would invite him over to the Curtis’ for dinner & Johnny would be there

And of course Johnny’s a harsh contrast to everyone else; Steve, Soda, Two-bit,etc are all louder people, all joking around being typical boys (& pony’s a kid), and Johnny is sitting there with his wide eyes being quiet, so that’s what dally would notice

I think Dallas’ first thought’s about him were that he’s:

- kinda strange

- too quiet

- and that they have nothing in common

And think the way his feelings would evolve would be along the lines of

Thinks he’s a kinda weird kid - learns about his parents & Johnny’s “hero worship” of him & starts to look after him - has affection/ feels protective of him and then that leans into romantic feelings

I think Johnny’s first impression of this juvenile delinquent elf-looking man would be

- not someone to mess with/talk back to

- a little scary

- but overall I think he would be impressed with his confidence and willingness to stand up for himself

So his evolution of feelings is

Scary but cool - after hanging out with him, stopping being scared and just looking up to him - then after learning more about his life, starting to see him as a regular person and getting genuine feelings bcs of that

So I think it’s definitely a journey bcs of how different they are but there’s definitely intrigue/curiosity in each other the whole time
