Multiple choice challenge for you while you recover from your annoying cold: Jo Wilson or Izzie Stevens? Joey Potter or Rory Gilmore? Piper Halliwell or Phoebe Halliwell? Luke Danes or Jess Mariano? Lorelai Gilmore or Caroline Forbes? And why?!?! I know these are tough, so good luck :)
Ahhhh! These are really hard!
Also, I feel like a lot of these answers would be or could be different depending on my mood?? Why I say that is because sometimes I lean heavier into the morally gray or flawed characters, or those I’m relating to more or less at the moment, and that usually has to do with my headspace at a particular time. You know, like if I’m paralleling some of their issues, working through stuff, grappling with similar conflicts in my own life, kind of thing.
Anyway, here goes!
Jo Wilson or Izzie Stevens?
Honestly, I think this choice has to do more with the fact that I prefer the earlier seasons of Grey’s to the latter ones. Probably a cop out but whatever haha. Everything was spunky and innovative then. Plus, there were better storylines and character arcs. Izzie gets a lot of hate in the fandom at large. Makes me want to fight for her a little. Even so, I thought she was an interesting character overall. I liked how her empathy and compassion had a tendency to muddy the waters for her as a surgeon. I’ve always wondered what specialty she’d wind up pursuing, what successes she’d accrue, the mark she’d make in her field as well as in her patients’ lives.
Joey Potter or Rory Gilmore?
Oh, my beloved introverted nerds! This one was tough because naturally I adore them both but I’m going with Rory today because I relate to her sense of awe and wonder where books are concerned. She’s so alive, stimulated really, in all things academia. She and I are also introverted in much the same way. Our friend circle is not large, but it’s constant, it’s trusted. We prefer to make deep, lasting bonds with people rather than superficial ones. We both are notorious list-makers, too, which, when there is a big decision to be made, we rush to them to flush out pros and cons. There’s lots of deliberation amongst ourselves and among those we trust. We also have similar BFF energy with our moms. (I tell mine all the time she’s “the Lorelai to my Rory.”)
Piper Halliwell or Phoebe Halliwell?
I’ve never been able to choose a favorite between these two. I always oscillate. One day, it’s Piper; the next it’s Phoebe. I’m selecting Phoebe today because of her passion and zest for life. I love how she jumps into things with her whole heart, how empathy guides her in magic, in relationships, in life. She’s always so ready and willing to try new things, too. It’s inspiring. I want to be more like that. Be less afraid to put myself out there and take more chances.
Luke Danes or Jess Mariano?
Not to be dramatic but this choice cut my soul into a Horcrux! I have so much love for these two emotionally repressed men! They actually have quite a few similarities between them. (Which makes sense if you think about it since they’re uncle and nephew. Genetics, man! Never know what’s going to pop up or where. Sheesh!) That said, there’s something so tragic to me about Jess and his upbringing with Liz and how he views love as something he’s almost not worthy enough to receive. That’s a terrible thing to think! To feel about yourself! I mean, he wasn’t getting the love he needed from his mother or from Jimmy. They ignored him, or worse, abandoned him. It’s not until he goes to Stars Hollow to live with Luke does he slowly come to know, to accept, that there are people in this world he CAN count on. People who will have his back no matter how many times he screws up. People who would always be there for him. Idk, I just really love the arc of that. It’s moving.
Lorelai Gilmore or Caroline Forbes?
Gilmore Girls is my favorite show and Lorelai is one of my favorite female characters of all time so I feel a little guilty about this one, but Caroline and I are cut from so much of the same cloth that it feels remiss not to pick her. Sometimes I think of her as being my fictional shadow self. She’s Type A organized and compulsive, as am I because there are so many things about my health and body I cannot control, so why not control everything else that I can? She’s focused, determined, ambitious, compassionate, and always sees the good in people, which is something I try to do myself. We share the “if you want something done right, do it yourself” attitude as well. She’s also next level insecure to the point that she thinks “I will never be the one.” That sentiment hits so close to home I could cry. 😂

<< Part 1 || Part 3 >>
I wouldn't miss it. -E
Y/N had never seen handwriting this neat before. Yet it was there on her skin. It hadn't been a trick of her mind, it hadn't been something that she had written herself, yet it was right there and she still couldn't believe it. For the first time, her soulmate had made contact with her.
After endless paint splatters, pen marks, her notes to self or even her attempts to have a conversation, the words were right there on her skin. The one time she wasn't actively trying to communicate with her soulmate, she gets a response.
Even as she brought her arm closer to her face, it still hadn't settled that the words were not hers. That she had not written them at all. Yet as she ran her thumb over the letters, they never once smeared.
"It's really there." Y/N said. Her voice had barely been above a whisper.  Even as her thumb moved over the lone initial, she was still in denial that it actually happened.
Elena and Caroline stood there and watched as Y/N continued to examine the words written on her arm just below the memo she had written. A smile was plastered on both of their faces knowing this had been the same way they had reacted to finally seeing writing that wasn't theirs.
"Gives us even more reason to go out and celebrate." Caroline said pulling Y/N's attention from her arm.
Practically clinging her arm to her chest, Y/N looked towards her two best friends. "Before we even do that should I write back?" She asked.
Y/N was excited and wasn't exactly sure how to act about finally knowing that there was someone else on the other side of this connection. She wasn’t even sure what it was that she would write. There were so many things going through her mind that she could find a starting point.
"You've never been answered before." Elena noted. "Do you think now would be any different?" Elena didn't want Y/N to get her hopes up. She had seen throughout the years how many times Y/N had tried to make contact and never received anything back. "If we are going out to celebrate, I don't want you to be sitting there staring at your arm the whole night hoping for another message."
"Elena's right." Caroline said with a nod. "For just tonight, we'll go out and have some fun to celebrate you getting your showcase. And then tomorrow you can mark up your arm with several questions to see if you get a response."
A small frown formed on Y/N's lips but she knew they had been right. If she wrote something else, she would be so focused on waiting for a reply than enjoying herself. She’d more than likely end up sitting in a booth, never taking her eyes off of her arm. A sigh passed her lips before she nodded her head.
"Okay, I won't try to get a reply tonight." She said before bringing her arm down to her side.
Elena smiled before she grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and handed them to Y/N. "Before you go and get ready, it might be smart to write all that down before you wash it away." Y/N laughed as she took the paper and pen from Elena before walking over to the table. She quickly wrote down all the information that she had written down on her arm.
"Now it's time to get ready!" Caroline said excitedly the moment Y/N dropped the pen on the table.
It wasn't long after that the girls were change out of their lazy Friday night clothes and into their night out clothes. They found themselves at the nearest bar that was off campus. The place had been filled with people, while not overly crowded, it was enough for the girls to not know half of the people that were there.
Y/N’s eyes scanned the room to find a place for them to sit. She was the one that usually could easily find a spot for them in a matter of moments. “Our usual seats are open.”
“I think by now they know those are our seats.” Caroline laughed. With how often they frequented the place, it was easy to see that they sat at the same spot every time.
“Why don’t you guys go get settled and I’ll get the first round.” Y/N said before taking off towards the bar.
It really was becoming a routine for them. Elena and Caroline would go get the seats while Y/N would get the drinks. Mostly because Y/N knew the bartender and could usually get the drinks half off. While Caroline and Elena had tried, they never could get them discounted as she did. As Y/N reached the bar, she slid herself in between a few people before waving her hand towards the bartender.
Catching sight of her, his smile grew. He turned back to who had been speaking to for a moment before making his way over to her. "There's my girl. Let me guess, the usual?"
Y/N laughed. "When have we ever ordered anything different, Marcel?"
"Very true." He looked towards the corner where Elena and Caroline had been sitting. He gave them a wave, which they returned before turning his attention back to Y/N. "Why don't you come down this way while I make the drinks, there's a friend of mine I want you to meet."
"Another set up?" She almost whined not wanting to go through Marcel's usual attempts.
Marcel laughed. "Not this time. He's a friend of mine that is visiting. Figured while I'm working you and your friends could keep him company."
Rolling her Y/E/C eyes, Y/N gave in. "Alright."
"Great." He said before nodding his head in the direction to follow. Moving away from the bar, she walked around the others sitting at it before stopping where Marcel had. "Y/N, this is my long time friend Klaus, Klaus this is Y/N."
As Klaus turned towards her, Y/N noticed the medical tape that peeked just below the sleeve of his shirt on his left arm. “It’s always a pleasure to meet one of Marcel’s friends.” Klaus said as he placed his hand out before him.
Taking his hand, Y/N shook his hand. “Like wise. Unless he’s trying to set me up.” She joked.
“Oh come on, Y/N.” Marcel said looking at her. “It’s not always all bad.” Both Klaus and Y/N laughed.
“Trust me mate, I know where she is coming from on this one.” Klaus said a gave Y/N a wink.
“Whatever.” Marcel shook his head before looking at Y/N. “Let me get those drinks for you so you can back to the girls.”
“Thanks.” She said with a smile.
“So what brings you here tonight?” Klaus asked.
“Celebrating actually.” Her smile grew a bit. “I just got the confirmation on the dates for my art showing.”
“Really?” Klaus had been a bit excited in his response. Y/N was into art and it was always nice to talk to someone interested in art. “Where at?”
“The Richmond Gallery.” Y/N said with a nod. “I’ve always wanted to showcase my art there and its finally happening.”
“It can be a surreal feeling, that’s for sure. I had my first showcase last year and it was...” He stopped to think of the right word that would fit his experience. “Well, I some times believe it was all some dream. But it will definitely be a night you wont forget.”
Y/N chuckled. “I’m sure it will feel the same way to me.” Since they had began talking, there was a thought poking in her mind, needing to come out. “So, um, what happened to your arm?” She asked pointing to the tape that was still peeking out.
Klaus smiled. “New tattoo. Just got it this morning.”
“Nice.” She said with a smile. “What did you get?” While she was curious about tattoos in general, it was the placement of it along with the fact that he had gotten it this morning.
Pulling out his phone, Klaus opened up his photo gallery and clicked on a photo handing it to Y/N. “It was something I always wanted.”
Taking the phone, Y/N’s eyes widened at the image. It was the exact same one that Caroline had came in to show them. “This is going to sound like a weird question, but do you have a very random star on your foot?”
Klaus’ eyes widened. “How do you know that? You wouldn’t be connected seeing as you don’t have the tattoo copied on you.” He noted as he looked at her bare shoulder and arm. “You know who she is?”
Y/N could hear the excitement in his voice. She knew that Caroline had never spoke with or seen her soulmate besides the conversations on their skin or the occasional new tattoo. It made her smile to know that Klaus wanted to know more about the woman he had yet to meet.
“Who are we talking about?” Marcel asked as he placed a tray of drinks on top of the bar for Y/N.
“Caroline.” Both Klaus and Y/N said at the same time.
“You’re kidding.” Marcel said as he turned his attention to where Elena and Caroline were currently laughing about something. “She’s that Caroline?”
“Yup.” Y/N said with a smile. She grabbed a hold of the tray in front of her before looking at Klaus. “Follow me. It’s time you meet her in person.”
Both Marcel and Y/N had never seen someone get out of their seat as quickly as Klaus did. It made them chuckle at the sight.
“I’ll meet you guys over there once my shift is over.” Marcel yelled out as they walked away.
Caroline and Elena were still laughing about something when Y/N and Klaus walked up to the table.
“Finally!” Caroline said when Y/N placed the tray on the table. “I was beginning to wonder what was keeping you.” Caroline went to reach for her drink when she noticed Klaus.
Y/N smiled. “Guys, this is Klaus.” She said placing her hand on his shoulder for a moment. “Klaus this is Elena,” She pointed to Elena, who waved. “and this is Caroline.”
“I’ve heard you’ve got one hell of a new tattoo.” A smirk on his face as he looked at Caroline
“You.” Caroline said wide eyed, a grin slowly growing on her lips.
______
After the initial shock of seeing each other for the first time, Elena and Y/N believed they were going to be left alone while the two went there own way. But that wasn’t the case. The four of them had been talking and laughing while they got to know Klaus a little better.
Well, at least for Y/N and Elena it was to get to know him better. For Caroline, it was like she had almost been there for every story he told. Klaus had tried to include her in everything by writing to her daily.
To Y/N it was sweet to see how they interacted with each other. Klaus fit in so well with them. It was like he had been friends with them for years instead of just meeting them.
“I remember this day Caroline came over and she had looked like she gotten into my paint.” Y/N said causing the others to laugh.
“I was just so mad that I couldn’t wash it off.” Caroline said shaking her head.
“Wasn’t that the day you had the dance competition?” Elena asked.
“Yes! I was so mortified. I had mom try and cover up that I had paint swiped across my cheek that didn’t go with my costume.” Caroline ran her hand across her cheek at the memory.
“I still don’t regret it.” Klaus said with a grin. “That night was the first time I had ever seen someone yell through writing.”
“How dare you use paint on the most important day of my dancing career.” All of them said at the same time causing them into another fit of laughs.
“In all caps, might I add.” Klaus noted with a grin.
Y/N smiled as she shook her head slightly. “And now look at you two. Having tattoo wars.”
Both Caroline and Klaus looked towards each other and smiled. “To be fair she knew I was getting this one.”
Elena and Y/N looked at each other before looking at Caroline. “You knew?!” Elena asked in disbelief.
“Hey, I knew he was getting one, I just didn’t know it would take residence on my shoulder.” Caroline defended herself.
“I remember telling you where it would go.” Klaus teased. ”Not my fault you didn’t remember.”
“That made for one interesting morning.” Y/N noted as she went to grab her glass to take a drink.
“What’s interesting is you’ve gotten two messages in a span of a few hours.” Caroline noted as she reached across the table, taking the drink out of her hand and turning her palm over. “Looks like this time its a phone number.”
“How are you that observant?” Elena asked as Y/N pulled her hand back to look at her palm.
There was in fact a number written out in her palm. Her eyes widened slightly as the beginning of new writing began to appear. But as the letters formed, it wasn’t the same neat writing she seen earlier. It wasn’t the same person writing.
Holding her palm up for the others to see, a sad smile pulled at her lips. “It’s not E’s writing.”
“Another round for-” Marcel began to interrupt until he had seen the writing on Y/N’s palm. Putting the tray down on the table, he reached out for her hand as he took in the name that was written above the number. His eyebrow raised before he looked towards Klaus, who had seemed to have the same look on his face.
“What?” Y/N asked.
“We know that who that number belongs to.” Marcel said as he let go of her hand.
“You mentioned E, who is that?” Klaus asked.
“Her soulmate.” Caroline said before Y/N could even try. “It was the first time Y/N had gotten any kind of writing from them and they just signed their name with E. Had better writing than you did.”
A chuckle passed Klaus’s lips. “I’m willing to bet that I know who is on the other side of this.”
“Who?” Y/N asked. She was both curious as well as scared to know if Klaus had known who her soulmate.
“My brother, Elijah.”

‘  i  don’t  wanna  be  lonely .  ’
The admission came with a shocked look from Cormac as he crossed to sit down in a chair directly opposite from her. Usually invading Caroline’s personal space was something of a hobby for him but this seemed too real for his typical antics. So he sat across from her in an armed chair with his elbows on his knees as he leaned towards her just enough. “What in Merlin’s name makes you think you’re ever going to be lonely? You’re Caroline Forbes, you’re stunningly beautiful, charming and far more clever than me. Which is saying something - men and women alike fall weak at the knees at the very sound of your name, don’t they?” He raised an eyebrow at her, as if to signal that he was teasing but really attempting to do so in a gentle way. Where usually his goal was to annoy her he was actually trying to make her laugh now. “For what it’s worth I don’t think you’ll ever be a lonely person. I think we all have very lonely times, especially in the midst of a brewing war, but we’re only seventeen now. Should we all survive this, of course, there’s so much time for us all to be lonely - and to not be. To have hearts broken, to break them, to mend them and be mended.” He reached out to put a hand on her knee. “Loneliness is a mood, not a lifestyle. Not for you, at least.”
