at my worst  (1)
Before we begin! Take this guide:
‘ Thoughts.'
“Speaking.”
‘ Telepathy.'
‘Direct telepathy.'
Also in this fic lets pretend Ku can turn on and off his x ray vision...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Throughout his entire existence, Saiki Kusuo was the one (besides Nendo) who had never been invested in romance or anything remotely similar. Which was strange, considering his parents were very romantic and affectionate individuals. However, because his older brother Kusuke was also far from being a lover, they were not surprised at their youngest son’s romantic-less life.
Which is why when Kusuke showed up with you trailing after him like a baby duckling at their new years dinner, they all sported shocked expressions of various degrees.
You looked adorable, to say the least. Your dark blue hair was braided into twin tails, and the oversized sweater (which was Kusuke’s), coat and sweatpants swallowed your already tiny body up. However, the earmuffs and beanie flattened your bangs, covering half your face, not allowing for Kusuo to get a good look. He could’ve used his x-ray vision, but he didn’t particularly care for you or his brother enough to bother.
“Is this your girlfriend, Kusuke?/Who’s this cute little thing?” The Saiki parents' questions bombarded the two intruders.
Kusuke bent and wrapped an arm around your shoulder. “This is my lovely friend (y/n)-chan! I met her a week ago at the airport and we’ve been hanging out! Her family’s busy so I invited her to our dinner! You all don’t mind, do you?”
As chaos ensued questioning why Kusuke hadn’t informed them that he had arrived a week ago and crying at the story, Kusuo looked over to you. Your thoughts were quiet- he really had to focus on them. They were various formats of ‘ I feel so bad they weren’t aware ahead of time! ’ and ‘Kusuke-kun was so kind to invite me!’
Kusuo wished he could read Kusuke’s thoughts. How were you already on a first name basis after a week? Kusuke was never one for girls- so he must be planning something. Perhaps under the kind, cute girl you were one of Kusuke’s robot experiments built for destroying the world.
After the introductions (in which Kusuo’s was: ‘I’m Saiki Kusuo. Please don’t talk to me.’) they found themselves having dinner while (y/n) answered questions from the parents.
“What do your parents do to be busy on a special night?” (Kurimi)
“You and Kusuke look adorable together!” (Kuniharu)
“What college do you go to?”
“Please date Ku-kun! I want grandbabies!”
One thing Kusuo noted about you, was that your voice never betrayed your thoughts.
“They are fashion designers!” ( ‘my parents are so talented!’) “And, I’m actually still in high school… ” ( ‘I believe in second year? )
Kusuo stiffened. What did that mean?
“Oh my! You’re the same age as Kuu-chan,” Kurumi’s eyes sparkled.
‘ Don’t bring me into this.’
“What school do you go to?” Kuniharu immediately asked. Was it ignore Kusuo o’clock already?
“She’s homeschooled!” Kusuke butted in, ruffling your beanie-covered head.
Kusuo’s eyebrow quirked up and he decided to tune into your head to see what was up. ‘ Woah, Kuusuke-kun is so cool !’ was the only thing running through your dumb head. What a disappointment.
“Are you two joining us to the shrine?” Kurimi asked. ‘ Please say yes! Please say yes!’
Kusuke shook his head. “I’m taking (y/n) back home, it’s a bit far so we should take off.”
This sent both Kurimi and Kuniharu squealing in adorement, as everyone began getting up for goodbyes.
“Goodbye, baby brother. Take care,” Kusuke smirked at him. What for? How would Kusuo know.
‘Die,’ Kusuo grumbled. He watched Kusuke skip to their parents, and jumped when he sensed you in front of him. Wow, you were small. He had to look down in order to see what was visible on your face.
You bowed politely with a c̶u̶t̶e̶ smile. “Thank you for having me! I’m very sorry about intruding on your family dinner. It was very nice to meet you, Saiki-san.”
Kusuo only nodded, and you gave a small wave as you moved on to thank his parents. As the pair closed the door behind them, the three Saikis began dressing for the shrine.
He was certainly going to wish for the demise of his older brother Kusuke. (and the robot machine, (y/n).)

Incredibly messy list of reasons why Saiteru is real and why I ship them (with occasional examples)
(and a little fan art to draw the attention)
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I did not read the manga, I watched anime and then searched for examples in manga as in supreme source
A little introduction.
There's a two things about Saiki K. that I need to mention before I will try to prove that Saiki actually likes Teruhashi back.
First of all, hope we can all agree on that, Saiki as the protagonist is unreliable narrator. This comes both from a) the form of the series - the fact that we as viewers don't see things the way Saiki does (just like with his X-ray vision, he's unable to see Teruhashi's appearance, but we actually can - so he says she's not that special or pretty while we can appreciate her beauty) and b) his view of relationships he has. He can deny his friendship with Nendou, Kaido and others all he wants, but we, as viewers see in every episode that he loves them dearly. He can say all he wants about how he's not gonna solve other people problems, but he helps every time and so on.
An secondly (kinda follows the last statement) he is tsundere. Not even kinda tsundere - he's hereditary tsundere and takes this after his grandfather.
Those two points I based my proofs on establish one big thesis - we're not gonna get any real straight verbal confirmation from Saiki that he has any feelings towards anyone, especially Teruhashi. So instead we gonna do what shippers do best - thoroughly search for any indirect evidences that something in fact goes on between them.
This list is based purely on objective and subtle changes in Saiki's patterns of behaviour.
So here's reasons why Saiteru is in fact real in no particular order:
Mixer issue.
The thing going on between Saiki and Teruhashi changes after Mixer date (there's also a post here on the subject of how it changes everything which I do not intend to repeat). I just wanna say that there were a million of ways of how it could go with the basically same outcome. But no. From Saiki actually showing up at the mixer to control things like some sort of power broker to the very end of the issue there is:
Kusuo's irritation at those guys generally;
his mentioning that he knows Teruhashi's preferences (like, yeah, he reads people minds, duh, but how much exactly he had to read her mind to know her favourite song or joke? It's not something you think about all the time, you know);
appreciation of her thoughts about him;
smile;
admitting he would/does enjoy this;
and rock-paper-scissors. This just blows my shipper mind - he actually participated in gambling on Teruhashi and actually won the game on purpose just for the sake of it. Of course it played out as a joke, but guys, GUYS! He literally won Kokomi-chan! On purpose! He participated in something this ... morally questionable, even though if he felt indifferent about her he would'd just thought something like "she's not an object to gamble on her")
Tumblr media
Saiki usually tries to ignore his friends inviting him to some special events (New Year eve or Kaido's secret base and so on) until it's absolutely rude to decline or there's a chance something will go wrong or his mom is nearby. But these few times Teruhashi didn't even ask him to go somewhere (milkshake incident, mixer) he avoided her asking him but still followed her around.
He did in fact say "of-fu". Out loud. While being completely silent all the time. No more comments (mic drop).
Tumblr media
Cultural festival lottery.
This one is tricky and requires analysis. So there's actually two lotteries involving Teruhashi - first one to choose her group for Okinawa trip and second one is cultural festival committee members. Both lotteries is drawn by Teruhashi knowing she will draw Saiki with Kami-sama's help and Saiki knowing she's gonna succeed. But in the Okinawa lottery he overplays her and uses X-ray vision and telekinesis to change her draw.
Tumblr media
And in the cultural festival committee member (which happens after mixer) he just...don't.
Tumblr media
And it's not even about avoiding Teruhashi personally, this time it's about avoiding huge pain in the ass cultural festival committee member is. As for me, personally, crush or no crush, I would do everything to not have such responsibilities. And he just chooses not to do anything? Even though this time it would be worse than a trip in one group of six, it would require them actually working together, possibly with no one around.
Cultural festival issue #2. Saiki admitted that their superpowers work together perfectly and when combined they are in fact invincible. While doing something so trivial as school play.
Tumblr media
Prior to that he worked together with his actual psi-team with some actual superpowers over something not so trivial (stopped train) and even though he admitted he wouldn't do that with such efficiency without them but he didn't say a word about their powers complementing each other, their working together this well or something like this - but he did say something this cheesy to Teruhashi, your usual perfect bishoujo.
Kusuo felt incredibly irritated when his brother bothered her (and kinda proud of her when he paid him back with her powers). Saiki from first chapters would've just use the crowd to teleport (like he actually did with Teruhashi when he didn't say "of-fu" for the first time) and left those two alone. Also, do you see it here? Saiki, you're being a little bit hypocritical, don't you?
Tumblr media
He stops avoiding her or plotting so that she fall out of love with him after mixer issue.
He's incredibly annoyed at her brother but still deals with him instead of just disappearing out of his sight (especially birthday present episode).
I don't actually think that issue with her overwhelming herself fits here. He would do the same for Kaido or anybody of his friends. He's irritated at guys but it kinda rational reaction for him about the cause of someone's suffering. He kinda opposes himself and them, but he has a god complex, he always does this.
He constantly complements her after mixer. Constantly. It's basically praises to her whether they are working together and he complements her superpowers, or he helps her with press club and compliments her anti-stalker skills or her overwhelming herself just to maintain her perfect bishoujo image and he compliments her dedication.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He actually thought that she's pretty at the end of the series. Legitimately. No other comments, just this. Okay, maybe also that I'm happy that he had a chance to look at her without his powers. But also it means that if he really did like her before this, which I think he did, he liked glowing skeleton/humonoid body of muscles. You know, perfect form of liking other person without knowing how they actually look.
Tumblr media
Reasons why I personally ship them.
(Obviously) Kami-sama is on Teruhashi's side. No matter what. Like come on guys. Its inevitable at this point. Even Saiki stopped resisting.
Teruhashi feels super comfortable with Saiki's friends - as opposed to literally every other guy in their school when she has to overwhelm herself just to talk to them. On contrary, Nendou, Kaido and Kurosaki usually have no problem hanging out with Teruhashi. Like yeah, they blush sometimes and act like she is blessing them with her presence, but they do not put the same kind of pressure that everybody else does.
They both have super weird (pervert) elder brothers they suffer from.
He sees all her imperfect thoughts and feelings and still choses to respect Teruhashi for both her good qualities and her flaws. (But guys, actually, how great this trope is? Someone knows all your dirtн secrets and bad thoughts and still chooses not only to love you (not talking about Saiki, cause it's debatable, even though I do think he loves her back, but generally speaking) but actually respects you for that?)
Saiki's almost omnipotent powers can't beat Teruhashi's powers of luck and ability to be loved by Kami-sama. And her powers are only powers in the show he has to reckon with constantly and that challenges him on multiple occasions. Not only that - he actually loses to her almost every time. Which is ironic, cause the only time Teruhashi did really lose against him in every possible way - it was the first time she appears in manga, when he didn't say of-fu and she eventually kinda fell in love with him.
This one goes a bit deeper then this post meant to be, but Teruhashi's life is actually terrible. She learned to enjoy it and to get the best out of the situation she's in, but that is truly a nightmare. Her brother is a pervert who is able to give her underwear as a present and wishes he could marry her. All of the boys literally block her way on regular basis. She has a fanclub who can approve or disapprove her social interactions (i don't think she pays much attention to them, but what if she knew they tried to tell her crush not to talk to her?). Press club is constantly after her, trying to take or photoshop embarassing fotos of her (borderline pornography). And every one of them sees her as an object. As a doll. A beautiful picture. So it's only consistent for her as a character to fall for guy who doesn't fall for her act and sees her as she is. It's beautiful. She needs that.
In conclusion (if someone will actually read to this point) I wanna say that for me the best ship is the ship that didn't happen but was implied. Especially with such complicated characters like Saiki K. It gives so much place to debate, to search for subtle evidences that there is some sort of affection or that there's not, to interpret facts and play with them, trying to understand authors intentions and finding some clues and hints...it's just so much more fun that established ships.

Real Answer:
I've cried about this before on here multiple times but this is my favorite line, and the one that made me an indefatigable Akechi stan:
Tumblr media
Yeah I'll have feelings about this again, why not.
"I can still be your playmate" literally recontextualized the way I think about love hsfjdlshfks. Like. Play is such an essential part of living. Not just for humans, pretty much every animal we've ever studied turns out to engage in play when given the opportunity (feels safe, not hungry/thirsty).
And playing with others is especially important in social species! Notice how core playing is to human society: all games obviously, but also sports, gambling, a huge chunk of media dedicated to various games or using games as a base for a story, etc.
Anyways, Kusuo just hasn't gotten the opportunity to play, really play, since he was a small child. Even if those early games with Kusuke counted, they no longer did once Kusuke installed the limiters. After that, every game was tinted with the danger of basically losing his life should he lose, essentially destroying any fun that Kusuo could have gotten from it. Not at any point does Kusuo wish he could play a game with his brother again – it's something he would rather avoid at all costs.
And we can see that Kusuo does not really know how to play on his own either. When left to his own devices, he only reads/watches/plays shitty/obscure media, watches live TV, or stares at the ceiling. His powers prohibit him from doing a lot of things, and if he's up to anything else, it's usually training to improve his control (like when he threw a baseball back and forth a billion times to get better at it).
So when Akechi comes up with a game for Kusuo to play, it's actually groundbreaking. Especially because Akechi purposely does not place any limits on Kusuo in order to do it! That's HUGE!
Kusuke ALWAYS tries to limit Kusuo when they play, handicapping Kusuo in London with a GPS tracker and 2 friends to limit his power use, and using Toritsuka as a hostage during the Cat Tank arc (and there's no way Kusuke didn't shoot at Toritsuka directly multiple times to make Kusuo take the hit). The only time Kusuke doesn't handicap Kusuo is for the fireworks "birthday surprise", but that was explicitly because he was testing the limits of Kusuo's powers to adjust the Cat Tank.
On the other hand, Akechi doesn't put any limits on what Kusuo could do to play, and in fact, watches him obviously using his powers (specifically clairvoyance and distance telepathy). To him, Kusuo using his powers is not cheating, because Kusuo's powers are as much a part of him as his hands or eyes.
The wording of Akechi's comment in the first panel, "I guess [...] I'm still better than you when it comes to betting on horse races", and then "It seems there may still be plenty of things we can go head to head in", shows that Akechi didn't actually know whether he would be able to provide Kusuo with a challenge. And that he's happy he can! Because it means that he and Kusuo can play together!
And tbh, Akechi himself probably has trouble finding people who can keep up with him in games. He mentions in the same chapter that he doesn't have any friends and isn't even sure what social people do for fun, rip.
So anyways, it just really hit me that the ability to be playmates is so important for a deep personal relationship. Like if you can't feel safe enough to relax and be silly and vulnerable, and try new and different things together, how good is that relationship really, y'know??
Yeah. That line gets me every time lol.
Stupid Answer:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love that he's trying so hard to take the conversation away from anything that could mess up the manga rating but as soon as someone makes an incorrect statement about dick, he immediately has to correct them with penis ethnography. We stan this pan king lmao.

My special interest is cock and brother, I'm about to start info-dumping.

Note
still on that saiki k brainrot so hear me out-
metori, saiki, teruhashi, aren and hairo with an s/o who really loves to bake/cook-
no thoughts just Reader learning how to make coffee jelly for saiki (like maybe they make him a tower of coffee jelly for an anniversary or his birthday-). no thoughts just Reader cooking something for metori who pretends to not want to eat it cause it’s ‘peasant food’ but ends up really enjoying their cooking. no thoughts just cooking/baking date with teruhashi. no thoughts just teaching aren how to cook/bake and having a food trade with him, bringing him lunch/a snack to school. and no thoughts just hairo hyping Reader up while they cook/bake and making stuff for him to bring to class rep meetings-
thank you! <3
the excitement I got got I saw teruhasi- i don't see a lot of writing for her and I get happy when I get to do less than common things! Thanks!
I'm running low on creative juices, so please I hope you don't mind if I use the exact scenarios you suggested 💀
Note: some of the things I wrote felt really rude so please don't mind the tone tags in parentheses, also i have not edited this yet
Saiki, Teruhasi, Hairo, Aren, and Saiko with an S/O who can cook/bake
♡romantic♡
Saiki Kusuo (italics = saiki telepathy)
Although it was undeniably tasty, your boyfriend's obsession with coffee jelly was not only getting out of hand but also quite expensive-
I mean he spent 3,000 yen for one serving-
But yanno what it's ok, coffee jelly is easy to make, and this gives you an excuse to hang out (not that you need one)
"Ok Ku, i had an idea"
I like it, just make sure you teach me how to do it too
"Rude. I wasn't finished"
You did in your head
As endearing as it could be sometimes, Saiki's mind-reading could be a pain occasionally
You wound me.
"Good. (/j)"
After a long debate over recipes and serving sizes, there it was, in all its glory, your first batches of coffee jelly
it was heaven
You did end up sharing the recipe with him, but it still became a little tradition to make the coffee jelly together
It just tastes better that way :)
Kokomi Teruhashi
In the midst of your TV and cuddles date, Kokomi huffed and turned off the TV
But of course it was rude to just turn off the TV, so she offered to play a board game instead
You did play with her, but your curiosity was begging as to why she wanted to change the activity
"Hey Kokomi, this game is fun, don't worry... but why'd you turn off the TV so suddenly?"
"Oh, it was nothing! I just thought you would like this game, and I wanted you to enjoy yourself more!"
Now, that's the answer the most perfect girl in the world would give
But Kokomi is still human, there's gotta be something wrong
You spent a while thinking to yourself about what you were watching, you two agreed on a documentary, then after the documentary, the channel played a cooking show with a guest baker/cook Makoto Teruhashi- oh.
So that was it
At the end of the round, you stood up and offered your hand to pull up Kokomi with you.
"Hey, wanna make a bet?"
She looked up with a bit of curiosity.
"I bet you, I can make your favorite dish, far better than Makoto can"
She smiled a bit, "sure!"
Her favorite food was simple, so you taught her to cook it and added in some other things just for fun (and so she can't recreate it without your secret ingredients)
Now you guys have cooking dates often and always find ways to spice up foods (and beat Makoto at whatever he was doing on tv)
Hairo Kineshi
my thoughts and prayers go to you
we all saw what happened when he tried to make crepes
but in his mind, it was a learning opportunity
You guys were taking an after-school stroll, the weather was really nice, it would be a shame if you two just went home and did nothing. Walks like these tend to get sentimental and nostalgic, so your conversation subconsciously started to drift towards school life.
"And do you remember that time we had to get kuboyasu, kaido, and nendo to play on a baseball team? Oh my god thank god it didn't go too poorly, that one player really pulled through at the end..." you laughed out
"Haha I do remember that, I can't believe we got them to play, it really could've gone worse" He smiled as he remembered that day, but then his eyes drifted up to a bakery across the road. "Speaking of poor experiences..."
after he explained to you he and kaido's crepe disaster, you couldn't help but tease fun at him for a bit
but you did agree to teach him more about cooking and baking
he's a bit too passionate about cracking eggs, but hey, at least you can work faster
after many, many burnt crepes and pans, there it was, a fallen appart, incorrectly folded, but still a properly cooked crepe sat there in all its beauty
Tumblr media
it kinda looked like this
Although he does learn many different things with you, crepes will be the thing he makes over and over again, even when he has it down to a science, just because it's the first thing you taught him, and he will keep that sweet memory forever (get it. sweet? Cause crepes? Im funny i swear.)
Aren Kuboyasu
He actually knows how to cook pretty well
He's not really sure when he picked up cooking, its kinda just stuck around, but he enjoys it, it makes him seem more goody
and he can treat you :)
I will die on my "aren lives for the most basic/domestic activities hill"
cooking with him is always an experience, he will play music in the background, and pull you aside to dance at random times
also does that really hot thing where he stands behind you, reaches around to hold your hands, and basically has you in a cage while showing you how to do something
it's one of those spontaneous things to do, if there's nothing else to do, might as well make something to eat
firm believer in "if you have to eat to live, you might as well eat delicious foods" so he will always try out new things with you if its healthy and tasty
"bab look at this show" you called out from where you were sitting, there was a cooking show/food documentary on, and it was showing a special food. "it says this chicken has a secret sauce they dip it in"
he walked over to the tv and watched it for a couple seconds, thinking a bit.
"...wanna figure it out?"
"yes. I'll make the chicken if you figure out the sauce?"
"deal."
will you ever know if you got the secret sause? Nope, but you did figure out a chicken recipe that is good as hell
he probably writes down all the recipes you "invented" together for safekeeping and so he can return to it later, but he refuses to show it to anyone
Saiko Metori
as much as I love him, we all saw in that one episode how picky he is while eating, and is probably a bitch to please while cooking/baking
so after a lot of convincing, you got him to sit in the kitchen with you so he can watch you bake for the two of you
in reality, all you have to do is give the dish a fancy rich-sounding name, you just have to be really careful with what you say
Tumblr media
like this 💀
you decided to bake for him today, baking is a lot more "by the book" than cooking, so you thought he would take a bit of comfort in knowing it was done in a professional way
"alright tori, so I think I'll make a heavy pastry made with fine cacao and extracts, baked into a rich dessert for a fine sweet palette"
"you're making brownies aren't you"
"🧍‍♂️"
Told you, you have to be as specific as possible
He does eventually get interested in what you're doing though, as he never really sees his personal chef cook, and wants to help you by the end
He really did enjoy it! It quickly became one of his favorite treats
But funny enough, no matter how many bakeries he tried or how many times his chef tried, they never tasted the same
(you put in special spices as your own little mark on the treat)
so he ends up having you over for more cooking dates
Which he really does enjoy btw
as a tsundere he will look all annoyed and probably call you a plebe, but these are his favorite types of dates

saiki kusuo x reader
word count: 2.0k
synopsis: you show saiki your powers. he’s unbearibly jealous, yet for the first time, he feels seen and understood by another person.
cws: mention of the reader having a bad family
genre: melancholic fluff
reader is gender neutral!
===================================================
notes:
greetings... i promise i’m working on cease and desist part 2 but i keep starting one shots;; I ALSO DECIDED TO CHANGE MY TEXT FORMAT... i yoinked all the capital letters away... it feels a bit more liberating
whenever i make my crazy op self insert oc, i always think about how i can make them a foil/double to the characters i like. for example my gintama s/i is also a traumatized war veteran. i thought like... wouldn’t it be fun to write the reader character as a direct foil AND double to saiki? they have everything he doesn’t, but he has a lot that they dont and it’s like,., mutual jealousy.
i also wanted to write saiki properly empathizing with someone. aiura and toritsuka are so fun because they both have different moral compasses with their powers and how they’d like to use them. however despite the fact theyre all psychics, saiki can’t really empathize with either of them.
i wanted to have saiki be excited about something, and feel truly seen. empathy is a very powerful thing.
i hope the “ability” i chose isn’t too cringe;;;
i can’t help but feel like i write saiki ooc so feedback would be super appreciated!
===================================================
perception. the way people are seen by others, the mental images and sour thoughts rooted in nothing but misconception. the falsafied persona of greatness, beauty, and kindness. perception.
you kept saiki afterschool. tugging at his sleeve, you quietly asked “i need to show you something, stay here for a few extra minutes?”. he refused you at first, but you stayed firm, “i need you to stay.” fierce. he decided to stay.
but you stood before saiki, right? were you there? he suddenly felt a bit weary, head pounding at the thought of you. your name, voice, scent, failing to find matches in his library of records. when he thought of you, his brain flickered through the faces and names of everyone else he knew.
you were a gap, a void, a sudden unconjurable memory. it was horrifying. but he quickly accepted it. the body circling behind of him was none of his concern, because there was nobody there. he supposes he should go home now. why was he standing alone in the classroom anyways?
firm hands land on his shoulders, warm, present. he remembers why he’s here.
“it’s not that i’m invisible, it’s just that your brain can’t recognize me, and refuses to acknolwedge me as a thing that exists.”
like a wave crashing against a rocky shore, the void is filled. your voice, your scent, your name, all slotted back into place in his mental library. he recognizes the hands on your shoulders as yours.
a hand snakes around and pushes up his glasses, covering his eyes.
“it’s not about visibility, it’s perception. you are unable to percieve me as a living thing, or of anything of importance. that’s why you can’t read my thoughts, and that’s why you’re so quick to give up trying to recall me.”
he’s practically trembling- you have one power. it was simple, but it managed to find a loophole around practically all of his.
“that’s terrifying.”
“right?”
you take your hands away and step in front of him. he adjusts his glasses properly.
“were you born with it?”
you nod, “it caused me trouble when i was a kid. i almost got left at an airport,” you chuckle.
“does anyone else know?”
“i’ve tried to tell my parents but they don’t believe me. they called me a liar and delusional, so i decided to stop trying with them. nobody else knows, i’ve never told any of my past friends either. when i found out about your powers, i thought maybe someone would finally understand. that’s the only reason i wanted to tell you.”
your lip quivers, “you believe me, right?”
truth be told, saiki’s stunned. he wasn’t expecting someone like you to have such an abrasive ability. despite how reclusive and fittingly unnoticeable it is, it was certainly powerful.
he’s jealous. you were able to freely aquire something he wanted- privacy, but he does believe you, afterall he just watched you waltz around him, outside of his keen field of view.
“yeah, i do.”
you smile, bright and wide- you’re nearly trembling. was being believed that big of a deal to you?
you take a step forward and embrace him, wrapping your arms around his torso as your head presses against his chest. he goes a bit stiff, and glances at the door. “hey, someone might walk in-”
“it’s fine.” you look up at him, meeting his eyes, and oh. your eyes are glimmering, shining greater than he’s ever seen them, “they won’t.”
burying your face back into him, he tenataively wraps his arms around your back. you continue, voice muffled, “’m sorry, you’re the first person who’s accepted me. i’m happy.”
the emotional explanation for your actions ease him a bit, “it’s fine.” he states back.
you finally pull away, and for a brief moment as you lose connection, you flicker out of his view, but you come back in again, placing your hand on his.
“actually, i can touch you while using my power without you being affected by them, but i’m manually using it on you right now.”
“if you touch someone while making sure they still can’t see you, what does that make them experience?” his voice is clear, a bit fierce in tone. you always had trouble reading saiki, but you could tell that this was interest. perhaps he was threatened, but he was certainly intrigued.
“they might whirl around and look who’s touching them and account it to a person around them, but if not, they might think they’re having sensory hallucinations. i can also talk to people, but because my voice doesn’t have any weight to it, it’s almost like a hypnotic suggestion.”
“so you can brainwash people?”
“not necessarily,” you let go of his hand, you must have released your power, your eyes are dark, “if i suggest something to someone and it’s something mild, they’re more likely to do it because it already falls into their line of thinking. if i suggest something bold, they might do it thinking it’s an impulsive thought.”
“most people won’t do extreme things, they’ll read those as intrusive thoughts. but sometimes people think my voice is the voice of god, or a passed on relative, and will do intense things regardless of their judgement. others have poor impulse control, and some are just batshit crazy.”
you sheepishly scratch your head, “but i don’t really like having that much control over people. i don’t want to use my powers to hurt anyone.”
“do you want to use them to help people?”
you pause. it seems you’ve thought about this quite a bit.
“well my powers can’t help people. they give me the ability to help people, but they can’t help people directly. i think it’s a matter of it i’m strong enough to help people.”
“are you?”
“would you hate me if i said no? of course i lend a hand to my friends when they need it, but i don’t think i’m strong enough to really make a difference. i want to live peacefully.”
you look down at your hands, “i wish i wasn’t born with it.”
saiki felt unnervingly softhearted. he struggled empathizing with his peers, but his heart pounded in solemn familiarity. “i don’t hate you for that, i’m the same. having the powers i do means i have the responsibility of keeping the world in peace. people would be jealous of me for the self-fulfilling purposes i could use my powers for, but i don’t want to use my powers to hurt people. i don’t want to help anyone either. i just want to be left alone.”
guilt. guilt was a disease, just like jealousy is. it eats at you from the inside, and creeps up at times least expected. it left both of you hollow and empty.
“i wish i didn’t have powers,” he continues, “i don’t think i’ve ever properly experienced life in the way i’m supposed to, like everyone else has. i’m envious of you, you’ve had a bit more normalcy than me.”
“i suppose we’re equally unhappy, then,” you smile at him. he had been staring out the window, but he turns to looks at you. you’re leaning on the door of the classroom, tilting your head, you ask him a silent “walk home with me?”.
“i mean,” you begin, “i’ve missed out on a lot. i’ve always had trouble making friends- my powers made it difficult for people to remain interested in me. i’ve gotten pretty good at controlling them, pk academy has been really good to me, but it doesn’t heal the damage it’s caused me.”
your teeth gnaw at your lower lip, “your family is so supportive of you, they love you so much, it makes me angry. i wish i could say the same about mine.”
it wasn’t too empty in the school, but your footsteps were loud and clear, both you and saiki walking in sync. saiki didn’t really know what to say, so he stayed silent.
sighing, you continue, “i don’t want to be alone, but it’s too easy to be reclusive when that’s where you’ve always been. if you live a life of isolation, making friends is scary and draining,” a grim smile forms on your face, as if you’re trying to comfort yourself.
but saiki does have to admit that the two of you have much more in common than he initially thought. he quietly thinks to himself, perhaps he could use your abilities.
“y/n,” he begins, eyes meeting yours, “will you do me a favor?”
“yeah, what is it?”
he doesn’t like being indebted to people, but he wants to test your limits. you don’t give him the chance to ask, “you want me to use my powers while we walk out together, don’t you.”
his mouth falls a bit open, lips parting, “how did you know?”.
you laugh, “you’re not the only one who can read minds,” and reach out to wrap a hand around his forearm. he raises a brow at you, seemingly amused by your comment. he expected you to take his hand again, but your firm grip on his arm was admitedly unexpected.
he felt his heart skip a beat.
“well? are you doing it?”
“yup, you won’t feel any different though.”
walking down the steps together, people passed the two of you, strangers, familiar faces, teachers. nobody noticed.
the two of you passed toritsuka at the steps, but he paid no mind. “you know,” saiki started, “when i use my invisibility power, that guy can still see me.”
“can he?” you murmur, your voice a bit low.
“if it’s easier, you can just think what you’d like to say to me, we can talk that way.”
you squint your eyes in concentration, “like this?” you think to yourself.
“yeah.”
you smile. you continue to hold onto his arm as he changes his shoes.
“that must be frustrating, that he can still see you.”
he nods. he supposes if toritsuka can’t see you, then aiura probably can’t track you- and him, down either.
“hold onto my arm while i change mine.”
without breaking contact, he gently wraps his fingers around your wrist. you hastily change your shoes, and slide your hand a bit up, taking his in yours.
“is it neccesary to hold hands?” he asks. his expression was nearly deadpanned, but the slight crease in his brows communicated just enough. he felt sheepish, a bit lost.
“no, but it’s nice.”
teruhashi stands idly at the exit, waiting, doing her best to gently shake off the boys that surrounded her.
“she’s looking for me.”
“is she? do you want to talk to her?”
“no.”
you pause.
“is she the reason you asked me to do this for you?”
he nods.
you turn and head towards the gate, but not before waving a hand in front of her face. you take a deep breath, before exclaiming a loud “teruhashi!”. she whirls around, trying to find the source of the voice, looking rather bewildered.
letting out a hearty laugh, you grin up at him. a slight huff of air escapes his upturned lips.
the two of you slip past the front gate.
“but you owe me something in return, i don’t give out my labor for free!”
he sighs, “what would you like?”
“wait, really? i was joking, you don’t have to do anything for me!” you double down on your demands.
“you say that, but i know you’re secretly hoping i’ll treat you.”
“shit, i forgot you can read my mind. that’s so invasive.” you pout, “not fair!”
“it’s fine, i don’t like being indebted to people, and you did do me a favor like i asked, so i’ll take you somewhere.”
you look a bit nervous, “really? you’re sure?”
“just accept the offer before i revoke it.”
you twirl in a circle, letting go of his hand and hopping a few steps ahead of him. “you’re buying me a nice coffee then!”
he lunges out to take it again.
“sure.”
and once more in sync, both of your hearts skip a beat.

are requests open? because imagine saiki with a dumb childhood friend (to lovers? 👀) who's just a little too naive. she's caught him using his powers before and just went oh, and he's pretty sure her brain didn't even process what he was doing. and she attracts so many boys but she's just clueless so now saiki has to shoo them away from her <3
Tumblr media
Anon your brain is astronomically huge I’m in love with this concept.
To clear things up though I do take requests (suggestions) but I won’t always write them since some make me go bRR and others don't really speak to me so it depends on what it is. (also because I'm not technically a writing blog pfft)
You wrote the reader as a she so I’m going to use female pronouns for this one. I hope I did your request justice!
Warnings: none, just fluff
Tumblr media
Saiki was absolutely terrified when you first walked in on him using his powers in second grade. I mean it wasn’t like Akechi didn’t figure it out, but you straight up walked in on Saiki while he blew the classroom to pieces. He was about to erase your memory of the incident before you had tilted your head cutely with a pout.
“Did someone break in?” You rushed off to grab the first aid kit to try and help the others.
Kusuo read your thoughts to see if you suspected that he was a psychic and the only thing he got from your thoughts were 'oh, I guess Akechi was right in some way'
Saiki had watched you put a bandaid on the wounds and secretly helped you heal the others. No one believed you when you said the classroom was blown up the next day, I mean it was like someone reversed time on it! Nothing was scattered or anything else of the sort!
Saiki also transferred away that time. You were kinda sad, you wanted to befriend the kid who was standing in the middle of the room after the supposedly ‘break in’.  You were pleased when you moved shortly after with your parent’s job. So you ended up at Saiki’s school again.
That was a while ago though, both of you have grown by now. You had followed Saiki around each time he moved, you were convinced that was the universe telling you to become best friends with him. (It wasn’t, you’d later on find out that Saiki had used mind control so you could follow each school he went to).
“Kuu!” Saiki looks away from the passing car and nods at you.
Both of you were in your second year of high school now. Saiki hadn’t changed much other than the glasses and growth spurt. You on the other hand? You had grown impressively. You were prettier, taller, and for some odd reason the universe blessed you with an ideal body. This meant trouble.
“Did you wait long?” You close the gate to your place as Saiki shook his head.
‘Same as always,’
“Ah, alright then,” You hum. “Anything new happen?”
‘I literally saw you less than ten hours ago Y/n.’
“So? Lots of things can happen in ten hours! For all we know you could’ve travelled to Kyoto and back!” You grinned. Saiki glared your way before continuing to walk.
“You’re so boring now Kuu-chan,” You grumble. Saiki chooses to ignore your words as he watches Nendou and the others join the two of you. Soon enough, you guys are at school.
“Ah, another letter,” You slip out your shoes to change into and set the letter into your bookbag. You head over to your desk and pull it out from the bag.
“Who is it from this time?” Kaidou looks at the letter on the desk and you hum.
“I think… ah it says someone wants to meet up with me on the rooftop,” you read.
‘Good grief, I thought you made it clear that you weren’t interested last time’ Saiki peers over your shoulder, caging you in, and you jump slightly.
“I mean it wouldn’t hurt actually going…”
“Y/n’s getting a boyfriend?” Yumehara joins your group at the shoe lockers and you shake your head.
“Someone wrote me a letter saying they want to meet up,” You show her the letter and the girl inwardly sighs. ‘How come Y/n-chan was able to pull people so easily and I couldn’t even find a good boy to date!’
‘That’s because you’re too obsessive’ Saiki reminds inwardly.
“You’re going?”
“Don’t worry! I, the jet black wings, can accompany you to meet up with whoever this is!” Kaidou offers.
“I’ll come with Nendou if you don’t want anything creepy to happen,” Kuboyasu smiles.
“A-ah it’s alright! I’ll just bring Kuu with me,” You smile.
“You sure?”
“Mhm!” You grin. “I’ll be fine with Kuu,”
Speaking honestly, you’re quite nervous. You had gotten letters before, but none of them actually asked you to meet up. Most of them could be read, and then Saiki would offer you to toss them out in some way. Your favourite was when he used his pyrokinesis to burn it in his hand, he was always helping you reject people.
“Offu,”
“Good morning Teruhashi offu!”
“Good morning everyone!” Teruhashi smiles, flowers bloomed in the room because of that.
“Good morning Teruhashi-san!” You grinned as she walked over.
“Good morning Y/n-chan! Oh is that a letter?” Teruhashi notices the envelope in your hands. ‘Why did she get a letter? Is she being confessed to? Ugh! No calm down Teruhashi, you’re a pretty perfect girl. You don’t need to be jealous, it’s just one letter’
“Yeah… It tells me to meet up with them at the roof,” You mumble. “Teruhashi-san how do you turn people down?”
“A-ah?”
“You’re always being confessed to right? How do you do it?” Your eyes glimmer and Saiki grimaces. Out of all the people you admire, you decide to admire Teruhashi. It wasn’t like she was rude, but it was more like she was fake.
“A-ah well…” Teruhashi panics inwardly as she looks for an answer. ‘I mean none of these high school boys can match up to me. Sure Saiki-san makes me feel different but seriously he doesn’t even have an income of 40 million yen… what do I tell her?!’
“It’s ok if you’re not too sure either Teruhashi-san,” You smile. “Sometimes we reject people so naturally that we don’t even realize it,”
“A-ah yea… sorry it’s just I don’t get confessed to that much…”
“Ah right!” You grin. “You’re better than everyone here so it would make sense that no one dares to approach you!”
“H-hUH? That’s not true!” Teruhashi flushes red at your compliment and you smile.
The rest of the school day passes as usual, and soon the final bell rings. You pack your bags and wander to the roof to meet up with the supposed secret admirer. Saiki walks beside you, ready to kill someone if you asked.
“Uh you can stay here, I’ll call you if he tries anything,” You open the door to the roof and Saiki is forced to use clairvoyance on you.
“H-Hi! Y/n-san, uh I’m Hito-kun from class 2… will you go out with me?” The boy bows and you’re thrown off guard.
“Ah, Hito-kun there’s a bit of an issue, uh I already have a crush on someone…” You half lie. Sure you thought Saiki was cute, but he was off limits since you know, best friend things.
“A-ah? Is it Saiki-san? I’m sorry! I thought you thought of him as a friend so I took the chance-“
“I-It’s ok! Kuu’s my best friend, it’s just I’m suspicious that he’s aromatic so uh-“ Saiki slams the door to the roof open and you panic. You forgot he was there. The boy who was previously confessing to you flushes red and rushes off with an apology.
“Kuu! I- uh, you heard nothing…?”
‘Y/n.’
“I know you aren’t interested in me or anything but like feelings work like that you know? Ugh I just ruined our friendship didn’t I…” You shrink onto the floor and Saiki walks up to you, crouching down to meet you eye to eye.
‘Y/n.’
“What…” you mumble.
‘I… I’m not too sure what I feel around you, but I think I like you too,’
“Nice joke Kusuo, sure made me feel so much better,” you grumble, looking away. “I may be dumb but I’m not that dumb,”
‘I’m not joking,’ Saiki forces you to meet his gaze. “I like you too.”
You pause when he actually speaks.
‘Did I kill you?’
“Kuu you can’t just say that and not expect me to break down!” You shove your face into your knees and Saiki smiles.
‘I’ll keep reminding you until you’re convinced, and I’ll take care of you until you know.’
“Then I’ll stick by you until this endless loop ends,” You smile, holding up your pinky.
You two sealed a promise that day.

Happy 46th birthday Kamiya Hiroshi-san! | 28.01.2021
Alright I’m back to posting birthday celebration/top seiyuu roles stuffs (or at least for Kamiyan’s birthday). My last Kamiyan birthday post was in 2019, so let’s revamp my list now.
#1: Takashi Natsume - Natsume Yuujinchou
Tumblr media
Soft Kamiyan is best Kamiyan. I’m sorry, but I guess I just love soft characters. I think I’ve gushed more than enough how much I love Natsume Yuujinchou, Natsume Takashi, and of course his small buta neko companion/self-proclaimed guardian. So here it is, Soft Kamiyan’s best cinnamon roll boi Natsume as my #1 favorite Kamiyan role (heck, my #1 favorite character, series, and performance ever). My heart expands three thousand times every time I hear Natsume speak.
#2: Kakushi Gotou - Kakushigoto
Tumblr media
I’ll be honest. This is the reason why I’m coming back to making these posts lol. I just finished watching Kakushigoto and I am in love with it!!! Definitely one of the hidden gems of 2020. A story about a single father who’s trying to raise his daughter while hiding the nature of his job. And Kamiyan nailed Gotou. From his dramatic performance when he’s on the job to the soft and caring side when he’s with his daughter. Everything was just perfect. Hearing Gotou just feels so natural.
#3: Izaya Orihara - Durarara!!
Tumblr media
The heartless little bastard that was probably the first Kamiyan role that stole my heart. Again, Kamiyan gave Izaya life. Still one of my favorite Kamiyan roles to this day. It makes one wonder how this is the same man who voices soft Natsume. Speaking of, I remember thinking ‘I know this voice!’ when Kamiyan used his Natsume voice as Nakura in episode 2 I think
#4: Yato - Noragami
Tumblr media
Season 3 when lol but well in all seriousness, Kamiyan as Yato is just amazing. He showed a wider range of emotion in Aragoto after we learn about his past as the God of Calamity, his desire to be the God of Fortune, and finally seeing him with Father for the first time. Just imagine how animated and voiced Yato will kill me if they ever decide to make a season 3 T-T
#5: Koyomi Araragi - Monogatari series
Tumblr media
It’s a talent in and of itself to be able to voice a wide range of characters and make each and every one of them memorable. Though he’s that type of seiyuu whose voice is very recognizable, I never get bored. Koyomi is one such case, and I just love him so much. (Speaking of Monogatari, I have yet to see Arakawa Under The Bridge and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Huh, so Kamiyan worked with Akiyuki Shinbou in three series, whereas he worked with Omori Takahiro in two - NatsuYuu and Durarara, one of which is still ongoing)
Well, seems like my top 5 still hasn’t changed (except for one) xD But really though, four of the five are indisputable, they probably won’t be dropping out of the list any time soon. It is funny how many of my favorite main characters were voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi. Whereas I usually associate a seiyuu with their popular characters, I never do so with Kamiyan. Somehow, he feels low-profile yet he manages to score big roles that end up being famous and/or iconic. His characters always feel so natural to me.
Honorable Mentions
HM1: Kusuo Saiki - Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan
Tumblr media
Don’t you just love when Kamiyan voices characters who talk a lot? I know I do, lol. There was Araragi, and then Saiki. I remember him talking in the DGS radio about when he got the role. He wasn’t actually too keen on it xD but hey I love him as Saiki lol
HM2: Levi Ackerman - Shingeki no Kyojin
Tumblr media
To be honest, I’m not much of a fan of Kamiyan’s Levi. I love Levi, not a fan of his voice lol. But I still gotta put him on this list. Because, well, one of his most popular roles to date? Yeah, lol. I said how Kamiyan’s voice is usually recognizable. That’s not quite the case with Levi. I still can’t find any trace of his voice whenever I hear Levi speak that you’d wonder how is it possible that the man behind Levi is also the one behind characters like Natsume, Yato, Izaya lol. Sometimes it feels like he had to force his voice to go that deep.
HM3: Choromatsu - Osomatsu-san
Tumblr media
Yeah I don’t follow Osomatsu-san, even though I want to. All my favorite A-list casts, but the comedy is just not my cup of tea ^^;; Still, I do love seeing some episodes, and the series is quite the phenomenon, so I’m gonna put him on the list.
HM4: Tieria Erde - Mobile Suits Gundam 00
Tumblr media
Seriously, there are a lot of other characters I want to put here. Like Ao no Exorcist’s Mephisto Pheles (Kamiyan was awesome here) or BSD’s Edogawa Ranpo (minor, but eh, still a popular series), but neither (not the characters or the series) are a favorite, so I’m going with Tieria Erde from Gundam 00. I’m not a Gundam fan. Not in the sense that I watched all series. But I do love mecha and even though Gundam 00 is more of a spin-off from the bigger Gundam narrative, I loved it. Great casts, enjoyable story. I guess this was before Kamiyan grew famous? Still, I did love Tieria, especially in the second season. That deadpan character who occasionally show emotion.
HM5: Machina Kunagiri - Final Fantasy Type-0
Tumblr media
I never played the game, tbh, but I wanted to mention him in the list because, well, Final Fantasy (and I’ve always been fascinated with Type-0′s lore). I wish Square would cast him in a mainline game. Well, he was casted as a minor role in FFX, but seeing Square’s trend of casting A-list seiyuu’s as their main characters, one could dream, right? To be fair, 7R mainly used their original cast from back in the 2000s and the main XV cast was decided also in mid 2000 (back from when it was still Versus XIII, though they changed Gladiolus’s seiyuu). I do wish they’d cast Kamiyan as, even if not a main character, a major supporting character. He’s not even in XIV when XIV has a lot of famous seiyuus in it.
well, that’s my list for now. I realize that many of my favorite Kamiyan roles are from recurring series. When I first made the list two years ago, I was surprised by how few roles I can list, because apparently all my favorites are from long ongoing series or ones that spawn many seasons. Look at NatsuYuu, Osomatsu, Monogatari, and SnK lol. No wonder it always feels like I hear Kamiyan every season xD

erratic heartbeats ~chapter 4: coffee jelly~
⚠Minor Swearing⚠
Legend: "English unless stated otherwise" --- 'Thoughts' --- "Telepathically speaking" --- [Authors' Note]
==========
'Kusuo-san's relationship with Kaidou-san and Nendou-san is quite a peculiar one.' Azumi thought, watching through the gates of the school. She stopped her walk when she heard the voices of Kaidou and Nendou from the commotion they were creating. The duo was like a hurricane of noise, with the unfortunate Saiki caught in their gusts. The amount of uninterest on Saiki made Azumi question how he became close with the two.
His expressions almost brought her to be sympathetic of him–if it weren't for the fact his distress was caused by two of the people who offered to be her friend. She just met them a few days ago, so she wasn't in the position to fully judge the males' characteristics. Azumi isn't one to jump into conclusions about one's personality.
Saiki looked up and met Azumi's gaze, prompting the latter to send a polite wave, not wishing to come off as rude. She opt to turn and leave as soon as she was caught staring, but Saiki speedwalked to catch up to the psychic girl, leaving behind Kaidou and Nendou to question his urgent leave. He decided to use Azumi as an excuse for his getaway.
The abandoned two dismissed their friend's leave, an act which they rarely do because of how persistent they are, and resumed their light banter.
Once Saiki was pacing in line with Azumi, an awkward silence hanged in their air. 'Not this again.' Azumi internally groaned and complained while her companion was unfazed by the dull ambience. The girl took a peek at Saiki's usual stoic expression, stuffing her hands in the sewn-in hidden pockets she altered. Strangely, she found some comfort in his ease–or atleast, in the ease she think he's radiating. The way he doesn't mind Azumi's staring, or the barking of a dog nearby, or the wind brought about by the car that just drove by... now that she thinks of it... 'How nice.' Azumi felt warm. She was touched by the little act Saiki was making, walking next to her in a position nearer to the road.
Azumi smiled, but as she over analyzed her reaction, it gradually dropped. 'Oh dear, I didn't think I'd be this starved of affection.' She let out a petty laugh, accidentally. Saiki looked over at the mildly flustered female, who had a hand over her mouth, curious of the reason behind her sudden laughter. He stared at her, as if asking 'what she found funny'.
Azumi shook her head to show her companion the matter was trivial, and thought to change the subject. She racked her brain as they continue to walk towards their neighbourhood for any ideas. Coincidentally, the modest building of a convenience store came in view. 'It sure lives up to its name.' Azumi hid her smile, turning to the boy beside her. "I, uh, guess I'll see you tomorrow." 'Elaborate, Azumi.' "I'll just... go and buy something... in that store over there." She pointed and inched away towards the convenience store.
Saiki stopped when Azumi did, and watched as she stuttered on her words. He looked at where she was shyly gesturing. It was nothing out of the ordinary, a moderate-looking 7/11, until he read a sign put up on the glass. 'New arrival... 50% off on coffee jelly?!' His eyes subtly lit up and he walked past a cofused Azumi.
"Um.... okay, I guess... Atleast we changed the subject" She mumbled to herself, shrugging before following Saiki in.
'Coffee jelly, huh?' She heard her companion's thoughts, and she was intrigued. 'I've never tried that before. Kusuo-san seems to like it so much' Azumi tailed behind Saiki, until she froze and redirected her route. She walked through the aisles until she saw the coolers for beverages and ice cream. After grabbing her item, she searched for Saiki and found him in front of a shelf that was almost empty, save for a handful number of what Azumi assumes is coffee jelly.
'Ah, there are only two left.' Saiki thought, grabbing both. Just as he withdrew his hands, Azumi stopped beside him. She watched curiously as he looked over the label, making sure it is, indeed, coffee jelly. Saiki took note of her expressions. 'Either she doesn't have a preference over coffee jelly, or she's never tried it. It's more likely she hasn't had a taste of this because of how naïve she is to most of what Kaidou is bringing, but I'm only assuming.' He let out a silent sigh, before offering the second coffee jelly cup to Azumi.
The ends of her lips stretched upward, taking the cup from his bent hand. 'How considerate of you. Despite how much you love your coffee jelly and how scarce the stock is right now, you'd give me one, thinking spot on that this might be my first time trying coffee jelly.' Azumi looked at Saiki, her smile evident on her face. "Thanks."

'Chin, up... posture, straight... walk, dainty... and smile, pretty.' Teruhashi thinks, giving occasional waves to a few people she walks past. 'Perfect, Kokomi. You're the most perfect pretty girl in Japan–no, in the whole world!' The thought made her smile wider. She saw the 7/11 store she heard from one of her classmates, well, partially heard, she was too distracted with her own thoughts. Teruhashi heard about a sale, and decided to stop by on the way home.
She saw the sign for coffee jelly, but her eyes refocused on the scene behind the glass. 'Saiki Kunio?!' She didn't expect to see the only boy who hasn't reacted to her beauty–yet–in the same store she was heading to. 'This is great! I can finally make him say 'Oh'!–wait... who is...?' Teruhashi rejoiced, before lightly squinted her eyes, making sure to verify the identity of the person next to Saiki before jumping into conclusions.
'K-Kanasawa-san?!' Her eyes widened at the sight of Azumi beside Saiki, smiling at him while taking the last cup of coffee jelly from his hand. 'What–What are they doing together?! Are they on a date?!' So much for not jumping into conclusions.
Teruhashi felt a foreign emotion within her, locating vaguely in her stomach–or was it in her heart...? 'What is this? Am I hungry? Jealous? Or am I having a heart attack?' She was confused, wanting to put a label on this feeling so she can go home and search for ways to relieve it. It feels... weird... weird in a way she doesn't like. It makes her feel insecure, something that she's heard of but never experienced before–or atleast, not from her prior knowledge. Insecurity, to her, feels heavy around her chest, hinting the source to be at the heart. 'I'm jealous.' Teruhashi concluded, looking up and eyes following Saiki and Azumi as they walk towards the cashier.
'I'm jealous of Azumi... I can't believe it... ' Teruhashi snapped out, she was beginning to drown from the negative emotion. She hurriedly entered the store and went to grab a random item from the shelves in the room.
•°●•°●•°●
"Good afternoon, ma'am. Is this everything today?" Azumi filled her lungs with an inhale, ready to say out the words she recited over and over in her mind. "Are you using any coupons for today?"
...
'That... wasn't in the script' The panic lagged longer than usual, dread taking its place within Azumi as it waits to catch up. 'What am I supposed to respond to that again?'
"hah hah, what coupons?" She whispered idiotically, her mouth running faster than her mind.
The cashier looked at the girl in front of them as if they were witnessing a proposal in a public bathroom, eyebrow quirking at an angle. "I'll take that as a 'yes' to the first and a 'no' to the second, ma'am." Despite that, the cashier seemed friendly–or maybe they were just composed because they were still on the job–to continue to put up their smile. 'Ah, another one of those shy teenagers. Makes me wonder about that group of introverts early this afternoon.'
Azumi is ashamed at herself, wanting to be gobbled up by the very floor she is stepping on. She felt the eyes of both the cashier and her companion, and possibly another customer. 'Oh dear, just get this over with. I wanna go home.' From the corner of her eye, she saw Saiki slowly inching away. Azumi felt her chest drop before hearing another set of thoughts near her. 'Oh, so it was Teruhashi-san.' She thought Saiki was avoiding her because she just embarrassed herself a moment ago.
"Oh wow, what a coincidence!" Azumi was too distracted with her thoughts to have heard Teruhashi's, so it came as a slight surprise to see the attention-attracting girl in the same store as her. "What are you doing here, Saiki-kun?" Teruhashi tilted her head a bit to the side, wanting to add pretty points to her interaction with the boy.
The cashier bagged everything and Azumi gave the exact amount of money needed to pay. She turned to her companion, who was looking at her instead of the person who was currently talking to him. 'Come on, I know you don't like her presence, but atleast just say something.' Azumi walked over to Saiki, who was now next to the exit by how much he was subtly walking to get away from any more interactions.
Teruhashi felt Azumi approaching, but was too disheartened at Saiki's reaction to care much–however, she masked her expressions well. Instead, she faced Azumi, giving her a forced smile. "You're here too, Kanasawa-san?" 'No 'Oh'?! I can't believe it! Am I losing my charm?! No, no, that's not possible. But just in case, I should try it on the cashier. Yes... it's because of Saiki-kun, not me.'
"It's a surprise to see you as well, Kokomi-san." Azumi mentally reprimanded Saiki for making her groupmate doubt herself. Teruhashi realized Azumi was talking, snapping out from her thoughts only to catch the words '–well, Kokomi-san'. In response, Teruhashi simply forced out a small laugh. "Anyway, we'll be going now. See you tomorrow." Azumi waved and left together with Saiki.
Teruhashi internally panicked and hurriedly went to the cashier.
...
"What was that about Kusuo-san?" Azumi waited until they were in quite a distance from the store. "You completely ignored her. That was rude, in case you didn't know."
Surprised at her sudden switch of casualty from before entering the store, Saiki took a second to respond. "It's nothing." Simple as that. Azumi shrugged, understanding that he doesn't want to talk about it, and decided to switch the topic, although being a bit skeptical at his relationship with the popular girl.
"You don't really like talking much, do you?" The girl added, having only remembered enough times she heard him talk to count with one hand. "A shame, you have a nice voice." Azumi paid no mind to her sudden compliment, having accidentally said out loud her thoughts.
"Saiki-kun, wait for me!" They heard the exclaim of Teruhashi from a few meters behind them, leaving no room for Saiki to comment on his companion's words. The two stopped walking, but only Azumi turned to see Teruhashi jogging towards them. "It was a real coincidence to have seen you back there" She attempted to initiate conversation, deciding to temporarily ignore Azumi in hopes of getting a response from Saiki.
He ignored her, again, and turned to continue walking. Azumi deadpanned at the male's response. She trailed behind him, encouraging Teruhashi to follow suit. "Yeah, we were just on our way home, when we decided to stop by that convenience store" Azumi said once the pretty girl caught up beside her.
Her words pierced through Teruhashi's mind. "You two live near each other?" She wanted a confirmation to the new information, to which she received a nod. Teruhashi gave a contemplating and slow nod in return.
Saiki glanced behind him to subtly observe Azumi while she talks to Teruhashi. 'If she has powers similar to mine like telepathy, that explains why I've never seen her get startled even once, because she can hear other people's thoughts... including mine...' He returned his gaze to the path in front of him, partially ignoring the conversation happening behind him. 'But if she could hear my thoughts this whole time, why doesn't she respond whenever I try to telepathically talk to her. She isn't someone to ignore people she knows–atleast, from my perspective. There's also the case of her parents, the whole reason why I got intrigued in the first place.'
'Maybe she doesn't want other people to know.'
'Ah, getting suspicious now, Kusuo-san? I guess it's fine, we are both psychics after all.' Azumi smiled when Teruhashi reacted gleefully at her joke, giggling with a hand over her mouth. 'I'd probably tell him in time...  when I don't forget, that is'
==========
It's the first week of summer break, and usually people would go out on a vacation or enjoy the sun outside. However, contrary to what is accustomed by ordinary people, Azumi is seen inside her room. Her fingers are skillfully maneuvering the buttons and joysticks of her controller, playing one of the many games she brought with her from London. Driven by adrenaline, she slowly stands up, eyes glued on the screen.
'Come on...' She was alone in her home, a common situation she has grown used to. Her father was attending to an important patient of his, and her mother was holding an interview for new employees under their new branch here in Japan. Azumi's brother missed her call when she tried a while ago, most likely completing his thesis, as he was on his last year of completing his masterals. 'And... done.'
She sighed, placing her controller down next to the monitor, and raising her fingers to comb her hair. The screen displayed the words, 'Level Complete' in big and bold letters, with confetti sprinkled across the screen to congratulate the player.
Azumi was stretching her arms and back when a bang erupted from within the neighborhood, specifically in direction of the Saiki household. She hadn't expected the noise, having turned on her power-limiter, so she jolted. "what the fuck" She said under her breath, drawing the curtains and looking down on the house next door. Azumi fiddled with her ear cuff, the interior of Saiki's house coming in view, just as she witnessed Kusuo threaten to flick his finger at his father in a sort of joking way–atleast, she hopes it is. 'There's no way Kusuo-san would lead to such murderous ways.'
She continued to watch Kuniharu demand and complain, and Kusuo work to please. Azumi stayed quiet, leaning in her hand as it was propped on her windowsill, letting them solve the problem on their own, until Kurumi found out they were working with the wrong room. 'I stand corrected, Kusuo-san may have already lead to murder when he was at his lowest.' Azumi commented when Kusuo gave such a scary expression, the first she's seen of it coming from him.
'He should take a break.' Kusuo fixed the wall and left the two to deal with the same situation before he was ordered around. Azumi turned around after fiddling with her earring, the sight of her television and controller giving her an idea. 'That's it...'
•°●•°●•°●
"This is my room. There's the shelf for my books and there's the shelf for my video games." Azumi gestured around her room, letting Saiki familiarize himself. She didn't bother showing him around the house except for the bathroom, becasue she thought he wasn't interested in a tour, after all, she invited him for a couple rounds of 2v2 games. 'Hold on... does Kusuo-san even like playing video games?' She faltered on her walk to her monitor, turning to her guest.
"Do you play?" Azumi motioned her head to her console. "I was hoping to refresh my multiplaying skills." She didn't wait for his response before moving to plug in a second controller, having already read his thoughts.
Saiki approached the shelf for games and pulled one from one of the rows. This grabbed Azumi's attention, as she turned to read the title of the game he picked. "You want us to play that?" She asked for confirmation, turning on the screen and consoles. Saiki nodded and handed the case to Azumi. "It's been a while since I last played this, so you just might have a chance to have a win on our first game." She smirked at her words, excited to play with her neighbor.
Her reactions brought a small smile to Saiki's face, he liked the aura she gives off, a change from the two chaotic ones that hang around him. "I guess we'll see" He sat next to Azumi and the opening screen shone from the television.
==========
'If I can get closer to Azumi-san, I can hang out more with Saiki-kun! Then, I can finally hear him say 'Oh' to me.' Teruhashi schemed, walking towards the Kanasawa estate. She held an umbrella, the same one she was using when she first approached Saiki on the sidewalk, to shield her fair skin from the sun.
'Okay, just ring the intercom, Kokomi...' She hesitated, and she wondered why. 'We've been through the plan, just push that button' Teruhashi huffed when her body won't move. She looked around her to see if anyone's watching, and jabbed the handle of her umbrella on the intercom as quickly as she could to avoid any more postponing.
"what the fuck, Teruhashi" Azumi saw everything from the hallway in front of her room, having been from the kitchen to grab one of the coffee jellies she prepared last night.
She loved her first taste of the dessert, so much so that she bought the recipe from the restaurant who used to sell the most delicious of them, having also hired the same chef who created it to tutor her in the making of the decadent dessert. It was one of the times she decided to revel in her parent's riches.
Azumi placed down her cup in her room, before teleporting behind the double doors leading outside. She creaked open one of them, before walking to the gates where she could see Teruhashi smiling through and at her.
Teruhashi waited until she opened the gate to talk. "Good afternoon, Azumi-san! Since I happened to pass by, I was thinking we could hang out today." She beamed, closing her eyes and already expecting what the answer to be.
'By that I guess you mean worrying outside the gate to the point of slamming your umbrella on the intercom'
"H-Huh, um-umbrella? What do you mean, Azumi-san?" Teruhashi nervously asked, a finger scratching her cheek as if it suddenly became itchy.
'Oops, I guess I said it out loud' Azumi resisted the urge to sigh, and to slam the gate and go back to her awaiting coffee jelly, but that's not the issue here. "I guess I kind of saw you in front of my house while I was walking to my room." She pointed at the right side of the highest floor of her house, where her room was generally located. "But it's okay to be nervous, it's natural–"
"I wasn't nervous!" Teruhashi accidentally cut Azumi's sentence, her hand raised to join the other in holding the handle of her umbrella. "I mean—! Azumi-san, you seem more snarky than usual, are you doing okay today?" It was quick of her to change the subject.
The psychic shifted her weight from one foot to the other. "I'm sorry if I seem that way, Kokomi-san. I'm not really in the mood right now." Azumi furrowed her brows, feeling a little apologetic at Teruhashi's efforts, but she doesn't like her intentions at all. "Maybe next time I could accompany you somewhere." She waits for Teruhashi's response before she can close the gate.
"What if we were to go to a café in town?" Teruhashi knew she liked sweets, so she hoped the idea of cake would convince Azumi out of her home. "I know a nice place."
Azumi almost sighed out loud. 'Knowing Teruhashi-san, she won't stop until I hang out with her.'
...
She wishes to be alone in her room, wearing loose and baggy clothes while playing her video games. Instead, she was sitting in a booth, looking out the window while Teruhashi states their order to the waitress. 'It would have been fine if you invited me because you actually like my presence, and not because I'm standing in your way of wooing Kusuo-san.' Azumi knew it would be suspicious to voice out her complaints, so she made sure to keep her thoughts to herself this time.
Once the waitress left to go get their food, Teruhashi faced Azumi. "You look great today, Azumi-san!" She suddenly beamed, trying to start their conversation. When Azumi was about to thank her, Teruhashi continued. "Say, when did you move into your neighbourhood? You haven't talked about that to me yet."
'Might as well just go with it.' Azumi exhaled through her nose. "A few days before our first day of school, our new house renovation finished and we flew here from London after hearing the news." Teruhashi nodded, wanting to indicate that she was listening. "My parents hit it off with Kusuo-san's parents on the same day we moved in. I didn't know he'd be my classmate when school started. It was such a coincidence."
'She's already on first name basis...' Kokomi noted, and just as Azumi finished her talk, the waitress came in with their cake. 'I cant believe they're already this close.' The two of them thanked their server, before continuing. "I see... So, how's your summer break going? Have you gone to somewhere for vacation?"
At the sight of the cake, Azumi seemed to have blurred everything except for the sweet in front of her. She ate her first bite, then her second immediately after. For someone who has a sweet tooth, this is Azumi's first time to have a taste of strawberry shortcake. She was so indulged in her cake, that she hadn't heard of her companion's words.
'She looks kind of cute when she eats sweets...' Teruhashi mentally commented, before realizing her thoughts. 'What–What am I talking about?! She does not–' Azumi saw Kokomi's unmoving form, and grew conscious if her staring.
'Is there something on my face?' She subtly wiped the surroundings of her mouth, nervously smiling at her. "I'm sorry, what were you saying?"
"A-Ah, it's nothing important." Teruhashi waved her hands to add emphasis, before grabbing her own fork. "I was just curious on how Kanasawa Azumi's life goes." She smiled down on her cake, poking a little before slicing.
Azumi looked at Teruhashi, mixed emotions bubbling within her at what to think of the pretty girl. 'She just needs someone to truly call a friend. She needs someone to help her discover new feelings and reactions, which is why she found it hard to cope with Kusuo-san's reaction.'
Azumi returned Kokomi's smile. 'And I guess that's where we are alike; our ignorance, specifically towards unfamiliar emotions and interactions.'
'And I hope we can help each other fix that.'
==========
"Haaah... not again."
Atsuhiro sighed, grabbing the attention of his friend. "Hmm? What's got you down so suddenly?" Kusuke shifted his gaze from one document to another, not bothering to turn and look at his companion.
The two young geniuses sat in swivel chairs in front of their respective desks that enables them to sit back to back. They had their own laboratory that serves as their office as well. Rich enough to afford their own spacious rooms, they decided to share one that is as wide as a whole floor of their building, because as they reason, 'to maximize intellectual cooperation and to minimize little mistakes'.
They may be friends, but their pursuit of technology and intelligence always goes first for them, which is why Kusuke asked 'what was wrong' in light of caution more than concern.
"I missed another one of Azumi's calls." The mention of the girl's name grabbed the attention of Kusuke, who placed down the papers in his hands and turned to watch his friend's reactions. "I guess she called while I was in the Botany department." Atsuhiro had his brows furrowed, guilty of having let down his sister again.
"I mean, she knows we're normally this busy. She's grown used to it by now." Kusuke is never one for sentiment, he lacks empathy for it, but he tried to to comfort his friend, nevertheless. "Azumi knows you're occupied with your research and thesis."
"I appreciate your efforts at consoling me, but this is more than a missed call for me." Atsuhiro placed his phone down, turning but not fully to face Kusuke. "I'm afraid she's gotten used to being alone." He was about to talk more, but stopped. The thought of oversharing plaguing his mind.
"Well, how about you hack into her monitor and talk to her there? You know she's likely to be playing."
Atsuhiro faced Kusuke, looking at him as if he has mutated to grow another head. "Are you crazy?!" Kusuke was about to open his mouth to speak when his friend shut him up. "Don't answer that." He glared. "She might kill me. You know how engrossed she becomes when playing video games."
Atsuhiro turned his back at Kusuke, attempting to get back to work. "You should worry about your own little psychic." He changed the topic. "Your design for his power limiter is horrible. Change it."
Kusuke laughed at this. "What, you don't like his antennas?"
"They were so hideous, he went as far as mind-controlling people to think it's normal."
"Oh well"
==========
"Ah, Kuu-chan. Azumi-chan stopped by a while ago and wanted me to give you this."
Kusuo walked towards his mother as she holds up a colorful paper bag. He furrowed his eyebrows lightly, taking it from his mother's hands. For some reason, he couldn't see through the material of the paper, but soon remembered it was from Azumi. "Thanks." He opened the bag after untying the ribbon.
'Hmm?' Kusuo's eyes widened, he raised the clear container than encased the most lavish-looking coffee jelly he has ever seen to make sure he wasn't imagining anything. The plastic had lightly fogged, most likely because the dessert was straight from a refrigerator. There were two more of the coffee jelly in the paper bag, together with a note. Kusuo placed the dessert he was holding down to read the letter.
'to make up for the coffee jelly you gave me last time...
not to brag or anything, but I made these myself B-)'
He appreciated her efforts greatly, smiling to himself as he scooped a spoonful of his coffee jelly, and Kusuo was in bliss.
'Delicious.'

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, a review
(Disclaimer: The following is a non-profit unprofessional blog post written by an unprofessional blog poster. Just the facts 'Cause you're in a Hurry! Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP): 50 USD Digital Copy (MSRP): 17.99 USD for 12 episodes How much I paid: 83.98 USD for Physical copy and an Amazon Video digital copy. Notable Localization Changes: Because of the nature of the dub, the voice performers are considerably slower than their Japanese counterparts and may annoy viewers. The English script uses multiple puns and other wordplay to add humor. (i.e. when Saiki addresses his father dressed up in a Santa outfit, he replies “You’re a lost Claus”. When Saiki takes off his transparent gloves to psychically read an object, he goes “But now the gloves are off!”) In Episode 24, Chiyo’s dialogue changes to “You jerk-ass writers! You couldn’t come up with any clever ideas so you had to dig through a bin of tired tropes?” My Personal Biases: I never heard of Saiki K until I saw an advertisement in a My-Hime blu-ray and seeing him featured on the roster of J-Stars Victory Vs. My Verdict: Saiki K manages to spin multiple plates at once by delivering a memorable character, establishing his powers and giving the audience gut busting dialogue masterfully executed. If you can forgive J.C. staff’s lackluster animation, you’ll have a good time. Check it out when you get the chance! The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, a review
Tumblr media
youtube
During the summer of 2016, 2 shows about psychics premiered. One was the hit juggernaut, Mob Psycho 100, praised for its beautiful animation, interesting characters and take on psychic characters. The other show was J.C. Staff’s The Disastrous life of Saiki K, an anime adaptation of a gag manga found in Weekly Shounen Jump. Saiki Kusuo is a 16 year old psychic with all the powers known. He possess telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, psychokinesis and other traits not even mentioned. He’s seemingly the luckiest boy in the world… or it would seem. In reality, Saiki is, in his own words, the most miserable boy in the world. The show opts to answer of a character having an overpowered skill-set by giving said character new problems. Having telepathy means being spoiled on movies and video games. Having super strength and super intelligence means having to balance the skills just so he appears mediocre in school. Having telekenisis means having an unreliable father who constantly begs for help. The trick is that Saiki’s narration is always constant and we’re allowed to hear the other character’s internal thoughts, while Saiki himself provides commentary. It should also be noted that we never ‘see’ Saiki’s mouth move, implying he’s communicating via telepathy. (It also helps that Saiki’s powers come with a number of limitations. For example, he can restore something back to its original state but it takes a day to recharge). As Saiki explains his powers to us, we’re also allowed to hear the other characters and why they’re doing what they’re doing and how Saiki wants nothing to do with them… or does he?
youtube
Yes, the formula of ‘jerk suddenly wants to do the right thing’ is easy, but Saiki K makes it work. See, Saiki constantly doesn’t want to draw attention towards himself for fear of things such as experimentation and paparazzi, and the path of least resistance is usually the best and easiest for him. But, seeing each of the side character’s constant struggles and dedication moves him. At the same time, allowing us to be with Saiki also lets us see the hypocrisy of his own actions and how the seemingly all knowing psychic can’t see past his own weaknesses or nonsense. At one point, Saiki is set to swindle a salesman out of an expensive television, but Saiki’s weakness for coffee jelly damns the effort. Granted, I’m an easy target for the ‘jerk with a heart of gold’ trope and Saiki’s sarcasm is on the level of Justin Cook’s interpretation of Yusuke Urameshi, but it all looks easy. Each episode contains 5 segments detailing a certain obstacle in Saiki’s life (though certain segments such as a trip to Okinawa can last over multiple segments and episodes). We usually go into problem of the segment issues, but Saiki’s powers shows us how it affects him differently. It’s a Slice of Life for superpowered teens. Things like a noisy neighbor or a cute girl are usually pains in the ass for Saiki. The supporting cast also impressed me a great deal. For example, anyone that’s followed me online knows popular girls such as Sachiko from Maria watches over us or Chikane Himemiya from Kannazuki no Miko tend to annoy me, but Teruhashi isn’t just popular and pretty, but so dedicated to the part of keeping appearances, she’s willing to debase herself and eat disgusting ramen. At the same time, Saiki, because of his powers is so off-put by Teruhashi’s uncanny ability to get what she wants that he’s willing to alienate her, but he’s slowly won over by her commitment. It works. The rest of the cast also compliment Saiki in interesting ways. Nendo, despite being so dumb that not even Saiki can read his mind, has a genuine good heart and tries to help his single mother. Kaido, despite being a weakling and possessing no powers of his own, shows genuine courage in the face of danger. Hairo, despite being an overly excited jock who’s super competitive, is dedicated to the point of being an actual leader. Toritsuka, a spirit medium who can see ghosts but would rather see girls’ underwear, feels like a side character meant to become a lead in a spin-off. If the show has a weak spot, it’s definitely the animation. Don’t go into this show expecting the animation to be the same quality as Mob Psycho 100. Still shots, panning movements and lazy animation make it clear that animating the show was not a priority. I give this a pass because action is clearly not the emphasis of the show, humor is. And there’s just enough there in the editing, the music and the voice acting (both the original Japanese and the dubbed) to make it work. Funimation Entertainment did the localization of the show. For the most part, the English script stays as close to the original Japanese as much as possible. The English script uses multiple puns and other wordplay to add humor or change jokes that wouldn’t work in English. (i.e. when Saiki addresses his father dressed up in a Santa outfit, he replies “You’re a lost Claus”. When Saiki takes off his transparent gloves to psychically read an object, he goes “But now the gloves are off!”) Jerry Jewell as Saiki is noticeably slower in his delivery than the Japanese Seiyuu but Jewell’s use of deadpan as well as adding the appropriate amount of emotion at the right time more than makes up for it. (Fans may recognize Jewell from other Funimation roles such as Jimmy Kudo in Case Closed and Licht in Black Clover) Mainstays such as David Wald as Nindo, Kyle Phillips as Hairo, Megan Shipman as Mera and Chuck Huber as Kuniharu all add to the work. Tia Ballard (who plays Marron in Dragon Ball Super) is especially good in playing Teruhashi. THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE AUDIO WITH SUBTITLES IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO PREFER IT. CAVEAT: I don’t know if Saiki K is anything revolutionary in terms of comedy in the age of Nichijou, Lucky Star, and K-on! It’s a cheaply produced anime based off a gag manga. But, I’d be lying if I didn’t have a hell of a time watching it. It takes skill to balance exposition, character motivation and humor into 24 episodes, but Saiki K makes all look effortless. 50 USD for 24 episodes is steep, but I loved every moment of it. Plus, the bundle also includes a Funimation Digital copy that can be redeemed on Funimation Now, the company’s streaming service. Verdict: If you’re not sure, try checking it out for free on Crunchyroll or if you already have a Netflix subscription, check it out there.

right, so, i take care of my mother? she is disabled, has a blood cancer, and is on 24/7 supplemental oxygen as a part of treatment for COPD.
so, she’s been in the hospital all week, because even the mildest of colds tend to turn into hospital trips. this morning i got a phone call to tell me that she’s in the ICU hooked to a BiPAP machine after a minor accident last night. i’m not taking my germ factory of a six-year-old to visit the ICU, so uh.
i guess i just sit here next to my phone and the house phone, and wait to hear from.. someone. at some point.
and pay the bills early, in an attempt to shut down some of the paranoid anxiety.
and also lose my mind under the weight of pants-shitting fear.
or we could talk about anime sure okay let’s do that here we go~
MAL tells me that after Houseki no Kuni, i finally watched Tamako Love Story? which i kind of can’t believe i hadn’t watched before, considering how much i enjoyed Tamako Market. hundreds of episodes is just fine, but committing to a movie, so much too much can’t do it. anyway, Mochizou is really the very Best Boy. he deserves better, but as long as he’s happy, it’s okay. it’s a simple nice little movie. KyoAni makes me weak, and can make me love anything, really.
neeeext i dove into Kekkai Sensen. it was.. weird? jazz and rock-ish BGM and OP/ED songs, plus the bit of scifi/fantasy blend while taking down bad guys stylishly gave me this Cowboy Bebop feeling. episodic in the same way Bebop is, too. i don’t think it’s gonna change anyone’s life, but it was good! Kekkai Sensen & BEYOND was more of the same, really. a fun stylish time. it made me want to check out Kyousou Giga, because that has the same director? and also it gave me BUMP OF CHICKEN, which.. i mean. that’s one hell of a band name.
usually, my scores for shows are wildly high for personal reasons, or lower than average because at this point i am easily bored by Anime Bullshit For Anime Bullshit Reasons. NHK ni Youkoso! kind of surprised me. i don’t think i connected to it much, outside of “ah.. yeah that’s how it is” thoughts, but it was just.. great. intensely human in the weird way that i like, with diversions into what in the actual shit territory. i think the animation and overall presentation hold up nicely even 10+ years later, so that was neat too. probably watch it if you’ve ever been a shut-in, or felt like you’d like to be one.
i will always watch historical Japanese anything, because i am a writhing sack of weeb nonsense, so Nobunaga Concerto was always going to please me. apparently, it got skipped when it was airing because EVERYONE HATES CGI U GAIZ? but all around, not a bad show. the CGI wasn’t.. wonderful, but it wasn’t ugly either. i’ll forgive anything for historical context and period clothing, though. and hey, if you love Miyano Mamoru, he plays the lead?
speaking of seiyuu, i’m pretty sure i had Robotics;Notes on my list just because of Kimura Ryouhei playing a main character. i really can’t think of anything worth watching about this show, outside of the gross internet-person blonde girl. she was pretty excellent. there were robots? uhh.. sure. it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t.. much of anything else, either.
kids, after the meh rain comes the sun, and the sun is Ballroom e Youkoso. not gonna lie, i love the manga, so i was very much looking forward to this show. it did not disappoint in the least. all the same energy and drama and sweeping action, captured by Production I.G., just like I was hoping. it’s pretty annoying that all i’ve seen about this show is HUR HUR THE NECKS ARE SO LONG jokes? an elongated neck is part and parcel with an ideal silhouette in competitive ballroom dance, and shitgoddamn, do i love a sports anime that nails and emphasizes pertinent details for effect. this is honestly a super-strong adaptation, and seeing the cover art when i went to get the URL for the link just made me want to watch it again, for that giddy feeling when something goes just right for the characters. please ignore the shitbird jokes, because mainstream anime fans can’t handle anything enjoyed unironically, and have fun. also, Pikorin playing a low-energy character is a good time.
i don’t think i need to say that Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan is good, but fuck. it’s so good. like, hopefully you can speed read if your Japanese isn’t great, because there is some overlapping dialogue sometimes, and visual gags involving signs, but. it was funny, and easy to watch for me, and i just. i wish everybody loved this show as much as i do. it was kind of a given for me, because Kamiya Hiroshi is my seiyuu husbando, but still. Hosoyan is in there too, playing a yankii dude and that’s always great. just. if you want a dumb gag show, here you go, it’s good.
dang. i took a lot of breaks writing this, because i wanted to keep the tone consistent, and now i’m just... even more tired. my phone still hasn’t rung. rang? rungrang.
right now, i’m keeping up with Koi wa Ameagari no You ni weekly, and that’s good and cute and soothing. in between, i’m trying to finally finish all of Cardcaptor Sakura, because there’s a new sequel airing right now too. didn’t expect Osaka-ben in my magical girl show, but here we are, and it’s pretty calming and nice.
anyway bye.
ETA: HAHA HOLY SHIT. i completely didn’t even bother mentioning Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka? and its sequel series. good, it was shit. i like cute girls doing cute things, and it was shit. who rec’d this to me? it was boring and you have shit taste, whoever you are.

Episodes s3: 2
Episodes Reawakened : 6
Studio: J.C.Staff, EGG FIRM
What possible problems could a guy that has almost unlimited psychic powers have? Well quite a lot really. First you have to develop the world’s most impenetrable poker face so that no one notices you’re accidentally reading their thoughts. It would be rude to react. And then when your friends get into trouble, which happens quite a lot when you attract every misfit around, you have to bail them out without them noticing. And what will happen when they find out? Is it ok to just erase their memories? How do you make sure your family doesn’t get over-reliant on your powers or deal with jealous siblings? These are all troubling questions every super powered psychic has to deal with. Oh and of course how do you stop the world from getting destroyed by an unprecedented calamity? There’s that one two. It can be a real pain. Fortunately, it’s fun to watch!
I’ve already watched the first two seasons of the popular Disastrous Life of Saiki K. If you’re curious, you can read my thoughts here: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. and here: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. 2. Super abridged version – I liked it!
yay!
When I heard that Netflix had decided to pick up this franchise for a little extra run, a lot of thoughts went through my head. One of which was definitely, I wonder how a Netflix budget is going to affect the show. And the answer to that is: not at all…
Season 3 of of Saiki K is a completely seamless continuation of season 2 in all production aspects. They are only two episodes and I wouldn’t have been surprised if they were made at the exact same time as the rest. As for Reawakened, I honestly couldn’t spot any differences. The cast may be a touch wider with pretty much everyone making at least some cameo appearances as well as new characters being introduced. And I guess maybe there were a bit more background mob characters so a few extra pennies might have gone that way but don’t hold me to it. It was in all appearance and sound, the good old Saiki we’ve all come to know and love.
For what that actually means in practice, feel free to read either one of those past season reviews. It’s honestly the same thing. And that’s not bad. The look of Saiki is a part of it’s identity. I’m glad they kept it.
not that looks are all that matters
But what about the actual…story is probably not the right word here. The Disastrous life of Saiki K has always been a series of quick sketches with a fairly loose connections to one another. Season 2 started setting up the end of the world scenario and that is the closest thing to an actual plot we have.
I’m going to talk about season 3 first because it’s a bit of an outlier. On top of my post there I have it as 2 episodes because that’s how it’s structured on Netflix which is where I watched. Two standard time episodes. However AniList has it as a single 1h episode which makes sense. It is really one continuous story. Or rather it’s a series of little adventures all leading to the same conclusion.
S2 left off with the revelation that Saiki has been trying and failing to prevent the end of the world due to an enormous volcanic eruption in Japan. As a result, he’s been resetting everything by a year over and over again for an untold amount of time. It’s sort of an endless eight situation.
exactly!
S3 picks up right there and shows us his last and successful attempt which culminates in Saiki giving up his psychic powers once the world is finally safe. And I really liked it. A lot. It has all the trademark humour and punchy jokes but it’s a little softer, punctuated by some honest sappy shows of friendship and character growth. It was a beautifully fitting end to the series which even left a sliver of opportunity for a follow up.
I went into Reawakened wondering if they were just going to ignore the finale events of season 3 or quickly rest them. I also was particularly on the lookout for studio interference, trying to spot Netflix’s influence in any of the episodes.
Well I was in for a surprise. First Reawakened screws a bit with the timeline. The bulk of the events seem to be taking place somewhere around the middle of season 2. We know this mostly because Aiura is there. But season 3 has definitely not happened yet. Then the last episode of Reawakened catches up to season three and gives us what happens after.
it’s unexpected
I actually really loved this. It managed to perfectly respect the events of previous season and integrate them in a way I hadn’t foreseen. I also really did enjoy how it ended even if it was a cop out.
As for the tone or studio interference well… If you watch all three seasons in a role you will see a sort of evolution and softening from season to season. It becomes a bit more of an ensemble series. Saiki himself gets a bit more layered and nuanced as a character and steps away from the mildly cynical straight man role. The jokes also stat to be a bit more surreal or get more set up as they can base themselves on more past episodes.
Reawaken didn’t quite fit with that narrative flow, but I don’t think it was because it’s a Netflix series either. If anything, I think maybe there was a span of time between the production. I say this because in feel and delivery, Reawaken very closely resembled season 1. It was sharper, the humour was more quickfire, Saiki was presented much more in isolation rather than an integral part of a group. And it really really had the exact tone of that first season which is a fan favourite so it may have been quite intentional.
solid plan for an anime!
For myself, I would say I liked s3 a little more than reawakened. Because I’m a softy. But I really enjoyed both a lot. I thought the entire experience of binging through these episodes made for such a perfect light distraction that had me giggling and smiling and just left me relaxed and carefree. It was like meeting up with old friends and having one of those kind of useless dinners where you just chat about whatever and you don’t even remember most of the conversation the next day but you’re left with a vague sense of happiness that carries on for the rest of the week. Like that!
I would recommend it as a watch or even rewatch for anyone that isn’t annoyed by rapid paced sketch comedy and that is in some need of a distraction right about now.
Favourite character : Saiki Kusuo. It’s fairly rare that the lead ends up being my favourite but I noticed that I was really enjoying the episodes where he was by himself.

Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan Season 2 Episode 11( I want to be normal! And Ouch.)
New Post has been published on https://hentaihun.com/blog/2018/04/05/saiki-kusuo-no-%cf%88-nan-season-2-episode-11-i-want-to-be-normal-and-ouch/
Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan Season 2 Episode 11( I want to be normal! And Ouch.)
Normal 0
false false false
EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
Saiki strives to be a normal guy, but he is seriously anything but. He has pink hair, the clips and those sports glasses. If he wanted to be more normal, he would dye his hair black, but I remember in the first season, he said something about his hair being accepting or something. Do I feel like watching the first season again, right now? Nope.
Saiki sees a seeming normal guy and he starts following him and envying his life, which is pretty funny by the way. I kind of agree, though. If I could read minds all the time, I would go mind. Sometimes it’s nice to not see what people think of you. I’m glad. I’m with you Saiki.
And my boy Toritsuka was in this episode. Even though he is second most hated after that other guy with green hair, I like him. The thing I like about Toritsuka is that he can be a good guy sometimes, but he is a f**k boi.
My favorite part of the show was when the brother dropped a waterfall over Teruhashi. Not literally, but he roasted her. Oh, never mind, he smelted her. He has no psychic powers, but he got her on point.
Then he had to run away from Teruhashi fans because she used Angel Tears. The brother is always running away from something because he always does something wrong.
The dad, though. He was making everything worse with the fake sister business. I was trying not to die over there. “ Where does she study?’ In Paraguay. Of any place to study, he picks Paraguay..
The judo match had me dying. I feel you Saiki, it’s always an awkward moment when you get paired up with the teacher. It is so awkward.
Saiki flipped the gym teacher, so then he got paired with Hairo, who is a black belt and he had to pretend to lose to get attention off himself. At first, he pretended to be weak and pretended to cry( I almost died at the crying part) and then he got kinda serious and controlled Hairo’s body and made him win.
That worked well in the end after Nendou beat Hairo.
Apparently, the future of Japanese judo rides on anyone. Anyone who can win!
Nendou gets a supposed love letter from a freshman and everyone is making faces because Nendou is ugly AF. The faces just reminded me of Great Teacher Onizuka( if you haven’t watched GTO, you have to go watch it now, it’s a gem).  Please watch it. You’ll love it if you love this show.
Everyone is like why are you lying:
The girl doesn’t really like him, she just wants to recruit him to the baseball team. RIP. GTO faces for all. Those are legendary.
This was in the first chapter of the manga, a version of this. Nendou was asked to help the baseball team, but I think he was bad at baseball, so Saiki helped him or something of the other. I don’t remember that well because now I’m on volume 5 of the manga.
That cousin needs to stop. Everyone knows that cousin.
And Nendou reminds me of me. No one ever likes me romantically and when someone does even a little, I ruin it. And my friend be like “ He likes you?” And be making faces like that.
Then that whole romance novel detective thing. Saiki-kun is reading a detective novel series from 20 years ago, so he won’t hear spoilers. Ironically, for me, spoilers make me want to read/watch something more because I want to know exactly what happened. If someone is like:
Spoiler Guy: [insert main character of any popular novel] died in the last book/episode.
Me: How tho?( goes and watching show)
That’s the only reason I watched Deathnote. I got real bored in the middle of the show. Someone said a certain main character was dying and I was like “ I need to watch this show immediately”.
So Saiki touched the book after he ripped his gloves and he saw a glimpse of the people who read the book in the past. I just loved how the story of the people who read the book was like a shoujo manga like thing. I feel like it could have happened in a drama.
Basically, they fall in love while reading the same book in the library and then become lovers.
This scene, that bothered me for little, but I was dying.
Then there is this guy who claims the girl is his finacee. And him and guy have a brawl, but except they both like the detective book and they use the books as chest plates.
And come on! This guy has the frickin book in his pants. I wouldn’t like to know that, but I started laughing. As long as it isn’t me touching that book, I’ll be all set.
Then we figure out the guy who borrowed the book in high school works in the library and Saiki thinks he won the fight. He could have, but Saiki can only see glimpses of the story. I’d like to think he did too.
Thanks for reading!!!

erratic heartbeats ~chapter 3: arts project? more like stress wreaked~
⚠Minor Swearing⚠
Legend: "English unless stated otherwise" --- 'Thoughts' --- "Telepathically speaking" --- [Authors' Note]
==========
The moment Azumi's subject teacher dismissed her students, greeting everyone a pleasant lunch, the girl was already out and about the room. It was odd behavior considering Azumi is usually someone who takes her time, but she wished to spend her lunch alone for once since the start of the school year.
Kaidou, Saiki and Nendou were pleasant company for Azumi, however she never feels like she is giving in the same amount of effort as her group does when it comes to their friendship. And it has been on her mind since the three became her friends. She appreciates them and the things they do for her, but there is always the lingering feeling of guilt, as if she is intruding in their friend group.
Azumi walked through the side of the school's courtyard, stopping under a tree to watch a game of dodgeball. She was intrigued at the sport, having only been taught and learned to play games that required at least 1 or 2 people to play. Her eyes followed the red rubber ball as it traveled to and from the opposite sides of the court, hitting a number of players while being thrown across.
Despite concentrating almost fully on the game of dodgeball, Azumi reacted reflexively when the ball from the volleyball court close to where she stood deviated from their target. She blinked in surprise, shifting her gaze from the ball in her hands to the equally surprised volleyball players. A few had their mouths ajar after shouting words variating from "Watch out!". A player approached Azumi, eyebrows knitted and eyes still wide, half from surprise and half from amazement.
"I'm so so sorry. On behalf of the team, we deeply apologize. You almost got hurt..." She gave a bow, showing her sincerity even though Azumi found the situation as not much of an issue. Some other volleyball players jogged over and repeated apologies of their own.
"It's fine. It's fine" Azumi unnecessarily repeated herself, shifting the ball from one hand to another before throwing the ball to the player standing near the net. She unconsciously used it as a fiddle. "I didn't get hurt and I think that's what matters"
"And thank goodness for that" The same player who first approached her heaved a sigh of relief, before meeting Azumi's gaze, eyes shining in admiration at the girl. "Anyway, you've got amazing reflexes! Do you play volleyball? I think I speak for everyone when I say I would love to see you play"
"I... I don't... I don't play volleyball," Azumi stuttered, entangling her fingers together and shaking her head–no. She tried to resist the urge to rock on her heels. "but... I've always wanted to try it."
"That's perfect! With your capabilities, you'll surely be one of the best players here after a few weeks" The other players got sick of waiting for their friends, they walked over to hear what they were conversing. "You should come sometime after school, I'll gladly teach you the ropes" The captain, Azumi assumes with the thoughts of the volleyball players, offered, a bright smile adorning her face.
Azumi blinked in slight surprise, half-expecting the captain to openly invite her, a stranger. She slowly raised the corners of her lips, showcasing a small smile. "That sounds nice"
A beat of silence, then within a flip of a switch, the other players started shouting invites of their own. Their voices mixed horribly with each other, leaving no word understandable. Azumi is left shocked at the sudden outburst, her mind lagging a few seconds.
'Oh dear...'

'What am I being so nervous about? She's just another classmate'  Teruhashi walked through the halls. Consecutive "Oh"s fill the hallways and blushes adorn the faces of the boys she pass. She convinces herself with her thoughts, 'That's right! She's just new here. No one is more perfect than me. Just ask these students here gawking at me.'
The farther she walks from her classroom the more her thoughts become unheard. Her internal dialogues become muffled because of the commotion going about outside the building. She resisted the urge to click her tongue, her smile twitching and threatening to drop. Teruhashi looked through the window to find the source of the racket that disrupted her thoughts. A class was having their PE, some students who formerly were playing volleyball huddled under a tree in the school courtyard. Teruhashi's semi-permanent smile dropped at the sight of Azumi in the middle, distress flashing through the introvert’s expressions for a split second. Something in Teruhashi clicked, and she leaned on the nearest open window. "Kanasawa-san! Let's have lunch together!" She didn't know what had gotten into her, but she convinced herself that she was helping Azumi out by getting her out of her situation. 'Yes, that's right. I'm just so kind, aren't I?'
Azumi, together with the rest of the students in the quad, whipped their heads at the exclaim of the school's proclaimed pretty girl. A chorus of "Oh"s resonated, successfully creating a distraction for Azumi to round the tree she was cornered in and enter one of the school's buildings. Teruhashi's mood internally deflated at the girl's reaction, closing the window and speed-walking to the cafeteria. 'She ignored me? Not even a polite smile? Nothing?! No one can possibly ignore me! Except maybe Saiki Kunio, but he just can't get over how I approached him first!'  The pretty girl realized how disheartened she was at what happened, slowing down her pace to a stop. 'Am I sad because she didn't want to have lunch with me? No, that's not it. Why would I? I'm just embarrassed because I was ignored.'
She shook her head, as if it would repel her thoughts from her head.
Teruhashi stood in front of the doors that lead to the cafeteria, contemplating if she should enter since she didn't have Azumi with her after openly inviting her a while ago. She turned and walked away, only to return a minute later. She swiftly caught her hand from pushing open the double doors and froze, deciding on her following actions. If she enters without the girl, people would assume she was stood up, 'Because, I mean, who would ditch me??'  But if she searches for Azumi, people would assume she was being avoided. Teruhashi needs to weigh her options well, because her reputation is on the line.
"... Hey, Teruhashi-san" An arm wrapped around Teruhashi's shoulders, causing her to flinch at the sudden contact. "Sorry to scare you. Shall we go?" Azumi gestured calmly at the cafeteria doors while her companion tried her best not to fuss out loud at their proximity. Despite holding up a collected expression, Azumi's façade was a far cry from her anxious thoughts that was wreaking chaos around her mind.
In truth, while Teruhashi was mulling over whether to enter the cafeteria or not, Azumi was pacing next to the vending machine located not that far from the double doors. She was equally conflicted as Teruhashi, her thoughts running miles as she constructed a plausible dialogue to say. She did rehearsals in her head, before nodding to herself. Her words a while ago was not what Azumi had prepared in her head, but it was good enough to not be roasted in her mind or become a potential face-palming moment in the future.
"A-Ah, Kanasawa-san, yes-yes let's go" Kokomi's voice shook as she tried to collect herself. Azumi noticed Teruhashi's not-so-discreet staring directed at her arm, so she dropped it from her shoulders. She understood her companion's uncomfortability, because Azumi knows it would be her reaction as well when a similar situation arises. She cleared her throat before giving Teruhashi an awkward smile, pushing open the cafeteria doors.
°●•°●•°●
"Are you sure you're alright, Yumehara-san?"
Startled at the call of her name, Yumehara almost fell forward at the loss of support from her prompted palm. "Huh? Oh, yeah. Sorry about that, Kanasawa-san. Where were we?" She sat upright, grabbed her book and began flipping pages.
"You actually missed the page. It's page 10, and you're… already on 34… Say, what's bothering you, Yumehara-san?" Azumi laid her hand on Yumehara's, successfully halting it from flipping the book over. She knitted her brows as she stared at her absentminded companion. "I think I'm reliable enough to help you if... it's possible."
Yumehara stared back at Azumi, contemplating. The former looked down, before her mouth slowly inched up to form a smile. Yumehara let out a soft sigh. "Have you ever been in love, Kanasawa-san?" She reconnected her gaze with her partner.
Azumi's look of concern contorted into one of confusion. Her once knitted eyebrows were now loose and raised at an angle. "Love?... Do you have a crush?" Yumehara partially covered her face with her hands, a slight blush creeping in before she nodded in affirmation.
"He's so dreamy~ Oh, my prince, always looking so handsome," The girl swooned, letting out another soft sigh. "I just can't seem to stop thinking about him these days" Yumehara glanced past her partner and stared at the pink-haired psychic. He sat up straight, his constant blank face portrayed for everyone to see. However, in the eyes of the brunette, there were sparkles around him and his lips stretched up into a wide smile. Two distinct point of views.
Azumi followed her gaze and whispered more to herself than to her companion, "Saiki Kusuo?" Alarmed, Yumehara's hand flew and covered Azumi's mouth despite her saying his name in a hushed voice and their other classmates staying at a reasonable distance from where they were. The blush grew on Yumehara's face, embarrassed at the fact she had made it obvious.
"Please don't tell anybody, Kanasawa-san!"
Azumi stared at Yumehara for a moment, her mind lagging a few seconds, before she lowered the hand from her mouth. "Of course I won't, Yumehara-san. I'll keep your secret. I actually appreciate you telling me" She displayed a little smile for Yumehara to prove her sincerity. At a loss of words, Yumehara stuttered, slowly drawing back her hand. The brunette glanced away, shifting her gaze constantly and only looking at Azumi's eyes a few times.
"U-Uh… How about–How about you, Kanasawa-san? Do you have someone you like?"
"... mhm, no, not really. Love doesn't cross my mind very often" Azumi turned to her notebook, lifting her pencil and scribbling more details to the rough draft of their project. Curious, Chiyo watched as her partner draws. "... But now that I think about it, my crushes have mostly been comprised of 2D people."
Her words left Yumehara gaping in shock, but before she could let out a comment, the teacher ordered for the students to return to their original seating as she concludes the subject. Azumi gathered her things, standing up after she tucked her pencil in her notebook. "I'll contact you to discuss our project later tonight. Is that alright?"
"O-Oh, sure, yeah. S-See you around, Kanasawa-san." The latter gave a little wave before turning to walk back to her seat.
——————————
Classes went by quickly, and Azumi and Yumehara walk towards the shoe lockers side by side on the hallways. "Okay, so… I thought we could add a little curtain that could open and close. To, you know, add a little suspense before the audience can see the inside of our diorama." Yumehara gestured, shifting her gaze from the halls to her partner's eyes.
Azumi nodded, considering her suggestion. "You mean the curtains during plays?"
"Yes! That one! Can we do it?"
"I don't see why not"
"Yay! Okay, for materials... I know the owner of this store—" Chiyo was cut off when someone called their names. The two turned to see Teruhashi, beaming as she walks towards them. "Hiragi-sensei is looking for you two. He says it's about your Arts project for the semester." She explained as Azumi and Yumehara glanced at each other, both equally confused at the suddenty.
The three walked together to the teachers' office, engaging in mild conversation as they go. "What do you think Hiragi-sensei called us for, Kokomi-san?" Yumehara asked a bit hesitantly because, from what Azumi could hear from her mind, Chiyo was confused about the level of closeness she has with Teruhashi. 'Are we even close enough for me to be calling her with her first name?'  She masked her dilemma well.
"He didn't tell me much about it, just something about the diorama-making project," Teruhashi said. 'Maybe Hiragi-sensei will finally switch my partner. She wasn't very cooperative since we've been assigned together. I hope I can group with Kanasawa-san'
'There is a high probability of that happening.'
"Good afternoon. Is Hiragi-sensei here?"
“Ah, thank you Teruhashi-san. Kanasawa-san, Yumehara-san, regarding your project this semester," Kokomi nodded and was about to leave (not really because she was hoping to be called back to discuss about her project), but their subject teacher stopped her. "This involves you too, Teruhashi-san… As I was saying, Teruhashi-san's partner is absent today because she was sick, correct? Well, she apparently was injured while out in the night rollerblading. I assumed she lied about her situation. She suffered a few major fractures and is in the hospital at the moment. She may not be able to attend school for the following month, and unfortunately, that leaves Teruhashi-san to burden herself with carrying the project by herself, so I will assign her to your group. Is that alright with you three?"
"--Yes, Hiragi-sensei"
"--Yes, HIragi-sensei"
"Very well, sorry for the trouble. You are dismissed."
Azumi closed the door behind her just as Teruhashi let out a little squeal. 'The universe is always in my favor~'
"Looks like we're groupmates now, Kokomi-san." Yumehara said, snapping the glowing lamp for moth boys girl out from her little surge of joy. Teruhashi cleared her throat and grinned at her new partners, trying her best to surpress her excitement.
"Yes, please treat me well."
——————————
'What is time?
because I sure know nothing about managing it.'
Azumi bolted out of her bed the moment her mind woke up and began listing the objectives for the day. She was supposed to meet with Yumehara and Kokomi at 10 am to buy the rest of their materials. After which, they will go to the Kanasawa residence to begin the making of their project.
It is 9:50. And their meeting place is a 30-minute walk from Azumi's home.
'They probably will think horribly of me if I don't show up on time'  Panic is not a foreign feeling for the girl, but she never learns how to deal with it despite how common she experiences it. Azumi's mind goes blank and silent at the time she needs it to run. She paces around her room, absentmindedly packing objects she thinks she might need in her bag, hoping to make her brain work with the stimulation.
This is one of the times the psychic hopes she has the power to manipulate time, to stop it for even a little while.
Powers... Azumi remembers she has them, and she freezes to cuss herself for a second. Because there's always time for that.
She uses her abilities to her advantage as she selects a hoodie and jeans. As she changes and finalizes her look, Azumi grabs her phone and attempts to dial her mother, hoping for parental assistance because she couldn't think for herself at the moment. When she didn't pick up, she tried her father, but he couldn't answer the phone. She didn't try again. Both are likely busy with their occupations. She stared at her mobile, a wave of melancholy washed over her, before she snapped out of her trance and to the situation at hand.
'Fuuuuck, I can't teleport to the meeting place because it's too public'  Azumi rubs her temple as if it will help her come up with ideas. She glanced at the clock and sighed in frustration.
Azumi doesn't know if it's because she just woke up or because she's normally that self-deprecatingly stupid and only realizes it now, but the only thought that occupies her empty mind is, 'Invincibility. Invincibility. Invincibility. Invincibility'
So she gave up on the stress and tried cloaking herself but to no avail. Azumi repeatedly tried, growing increasingly troubled at every failed attempt. She rubbed her face and combed her hair with her fingers, her hand grazing metal. Her mind buffered for a second before Azumi let out a growl of irritation. She aggressively twiddled with her ear cuff, so much so that it began to hurt. She ignored the pain and proceeded to turn herself invisible. Azumi teleported behind a tree. She surveyed the area before uncloaking herself and stealthily walking to an entrance of the park. She casually re-enters the place as if her mind wasn't just hit with overwhelming stress so suddenly and was spotted by Yumehara.
"Oh, Kokomi-san, I see Azumi-san over there!" Yumehara gently held her companion's elbow in hopes of drawing her attention away from the group of people that gathered around. It did, and Teruhashi watched with Yumehara as Azumi walked over to where they sat, smiles plastered on their faces.
'The people are staring. I KNOW they are. Fuck. They're judging you. Cover your ear; they can see your ear cuff. They'll think you're a freak'  Azumi walked stiffly and awkwardly towards her groupmates, mindful of the eyes that follow her every move. She stood in front of her classmates, untucking her hair. 'Greet them, damn it. You have a mouth for a reason.'
"Hi, sorry I'm late..." Azumi hid her hands in her pockets. "Did you two wait long?"
"No, not at all, you're just in time. Let's go?" Chiyo bent her wrist dismissively at Azumi's words before facing Teruhashi. The bluenette politely bid goodbye to the cohort that formed, and greeted Azumi. Silence consumed the three's ambiance as they walked out of the park. "You're very popular, Kokomi-san," Yumehara decided to speak, attempting to start a conversation. She hoped Azumi would join in and not be left out, but the girl silently lagged behind the two, providing space for other pedestrians to walk by.
Teruhashi followed Yumehara's gaze, and the idea clicked in her mind. "I don't think I'm that popular." She outwardly humbles herself to respond, a far cry from her self-centered thoughts, before moving on to a different topic. "I kinda want to see where you live, Kanasawa-san."
Azumi ripped her gaze from a nearby tree and focused on the eyes of her companions. "Ah, my... my house...? Uhm, you will see after we buy the rest of our materials. We will make our project there, right?" She alternated between Yumehara's honey brown eyes and Teruhashi's dark blue ones, confused and searching for confirmation. 'Did they change plans while they were waiting for me?'
"O-Oh yeah" Teruhashi awkwardly laughed in response, embarrassed at the fact she forgot about their plans. "Yeah, we'll go after buying the rest of our materials" Azumi nodded, pursing her lips before averting her eyes to the trees.
Yumehara led the two to a small bookstore after having walked through a few streets. "Here we are!" The brunette grabbed her friends' hands without warning and burst through the doors. They encountered a few problems while searching the isles, like how they found out the store sold out of red cloth that they planned to use as curtains. But Teruhashi suggested a possible plan for the issue and they continued on without another problem.
Except...
'Shit my wallet'
Color drained from Azumi's face after confirming the absence of her money thrice. 'This is why I'm horrible under pressure' She resisted the urge to sigh before tapping on the shoulder of Yumehara. "Hey... uhm... I... think I forgot my wallet at home. Is it possible for me to postpone my contribution? At-At least until we arrive at my house...?" She was nervous as she awaits Yumehara's response, fiddling with the strap of her bag.
"Yes, of course" Relief washed over Azumi. She never pictured Yumehara as someone rude, so she half-expected a polite answer, but her mind would have none of it and still influenced her otherwise.
"Thank you, I promise to pay my contribution"
°●•°●•°●
"This..." Two pairs of eyes widened, their sizes comparable to saucers. The two unconsciously raised their voices, their words coming out in sync. "This is where you live?!"
Azumi got anxious at their reaction, not used to inviting people into her home. "... yeah...?" It sounded more like a question than a statement because of how unsure Azumi is to respond. She stuffed her hands in her pockets.
Yumehara noticed her friend's response, moving to hold Azumi's hands in her own. "It's the most elegant house I've ever seen!" She hoped to minimize her companion's hesitation.
"I agree!" Teruhashi beamed, joining their hands with her own to add her support. The two nodded their heads rapidly, smiling the widest Azumi has seen them sport.
Her groupmates' efforts reassured Azumi. She gave a small but genuine smile before opening the gates for them to enter.
Being homeschooled her whole life, Azumi never felt the experience of having friends to invite or tour her home. She never learned how to grow or even start her social life without her mother forcing other children to make their acquaintance with her. She wanted to do things without being told to, to make decisions on her own accord.
Azumi holds expectations for PK Academy. Expectations that are not even close to the level her parents had for her.
