#“the Females have an inner journey and the Males have an external journey”
Text
"Female characters can certainly have characteristics found within The Hero's Journey, but it would be difficult to apply characteristics found within The Heroine's Journey to a male character because they generally can't and don't relate."
"The Hero already has power as a man. The Heroine battles not only the conflicts at hand within the story, but is also dealing with the prejudice of being a woman."
ah yes. men just don't know what it's like to aspire to be in a more priviledged position, quite possibly requiring a betrayal of the self, eventually reclaiming initial values, skills or attributes.
men?? dealing with prejudice?? not having power?? has never happened, ever.
just. women can relate to element's of the men's journey, but men could never understand those female woman elements of a story. men and women are just so different, lol. men could never relate. I am a progressive btw.

The male body has to make pilgrimages to sit at the feet of men, the masters and gurus. The only thing that the female has to do is to keep communication open to nature and come home to her body. --India Ame'ye, Author
This is absolutely no shade to men or male bodies. Men and male bodies are valuable, beautiful, and necessary. However, it's a reminder that what we've been taught to believe is real and true around spirituality ( and pretty much everything else) was born from the male mind and never meant for us in the first place. Please consider no longer prioritizing the advice or perspectives of men. You can consider it if you like, but do not center it until you filter what's being said or exemplified through the channels of your own female body. Even with yoga, the female body works best with more flowy practices as oppose to sharp rigidity. Come home to your body and trust your heart and soul.
Since the beginning of time, most gynecologists have been men. Men have been writing women's stories for centuries. We became less and less embodied and trapped and stagnated in our root and sacral chakras, looking for daddy doctor to save us, which did one of three things: 1. caused us to attract lovers who only want to fuck but don't want to love on or care for us 2. made us sexually confused, sexually performative, or incompetent/stuck in our heads, dissociated from our bodies and libidos, and see our bodies as tools/containers for male pleasure. 3. made it difficult for to us to relax comfortable in our grown bodies and just be without stimulants and entertainment.
Now we love the root and sacral chakras. No chakra heirarchy is allowed in this work. Just know though that when your energy is not moving, it's impossible for you to feel good in your body. That is one of the biggest issues I find. Many women just do not feel good in their bodies. When you don't feel good, you constantly reach out into the external world for its distractions, subjected to its bullshit and lies because you haven't learned to cultivate your own energy. You must begin to midwife yourself through the chronic over-stimulation and boredom and begin to script your life consciously. Such a profound version of love. Self-love.
This work is not a quick-fix. It is journey that won't happen overnight at first until suddenly, one day, there is a quantum leap, then another one. It calls for us to be more available to SIMPLE activities like "belly breathing" or "breast stroking with emotion" to begin the masterful process of raising our energy up and beyond the root and sacral, allowing it infuse into our heart. This is one of many ways we open up our hearts, Loved Ones. You no longer need to blame men or women or any relationship style for what is going on within you because you can just go inside and penetrate your breasts, eyes, etc. with more loving energy that projects out to create a higher frequency and quality of magnetism. This is what I will teach you when it's time.
It may sound too good to be true, but when women (and other womb holders) start prioritizing our health and happiness through simple acts like "feet work," it changes the world, men included. That's because the male body is primally-wired to be influenced and impacted by the happiness of the female. If women are happy, generally men (children, animals, and the natural world) get on board and become happier. Start listening to your female body more and developing a more inward focus in these times so that you can cultivate your energy and orbit this magic to recalibrate the world. The microcosmic orbit.
Care for your nervous system and cultivate greater inner peace so that you can create a more peaceful impact upon the world. What are you letting go off? What's is your heart's deepest desire when you truly get quieter and really listen? What does it look and feel like to create a life of your highest wellbeing?

Henry Masterlist.
___
“Why don’t you open your mouth, suck on this for a little bit while I...” he trails his fingers up your inner thigh and brush them over your clothed core. “get you nice and wet and if you’re a good girl, I’ll let you cum and ride my cock. How about that?”
-
His words had been true, just like you knew they would be. Henry didn’t lie when it came to something like this. He rarely lied at all but especially not about something like this.
You’d sucked the small vibrating egg between your lips as his hands had made quick work of your clothing, stripping you down to just your underwear. His fingertips had stroked over your covered folds, parting them through the fabric of your panties. He’d quickly located your clit, the swelling of it at the top of your slit was too much for him to ignore and his middle finger alone had started an assault against it with such speed all you could do was grip his biceps so hard that thin crescents were imprinted within his skin.
You’d reached your orgasm quickly, your thighs trembling and your knees almost giving out. Had he not caught you, you’d have fallen to your knees without intentionally doing so.
Henry had lowered to his own, pulling your underwear down your thighs and pooled them at your feet. Your wetness had coated your inner thighs, the smell of you brought him to kiss and nip at your skin, press his mouth to your damp lips and force his tongue between them - licking away at everything he’d just caused.
He’d cleaned you up using only his mouth, before reaching up and holding out his palm to you without stopping the new waves of pleasure which rippled through you by that skilful tongue. Obediently spitting the egg out, it had plopped onto his waiting hand and you’d felt the smooth curve of the egg at the entrance to your core and the pressure of it as he began to push it inside.
Once inserted, he’d driven you to the edge. Made you call his name over and over as the toy was switched on, stimulating you from the inside while he continued to lap at you externally. And each time you’d almost reached your second orgasm, he’d stop, wait for it to drain away and he’d start again.
You were eventually given your second orgasm, but not until he was ready and not before you were begging.
__
“Are you sure you’re okay? I could get you a glass of water?” You can’t remember her name, but she has a friendly face and her perfume, a flowery musk scent, is far too overpowering. Had your attention been elsewhere, you may have considered taking a step or two away from her, just to be able to breathe.
“I’d love a glass actually,” you reply, realising this may be your opportunity to gulp down a few moments of unpolluted air. Your skin was starting to heat, your heart rate was speeding up, your muscles were tightening and you were struggling to put together a sentence that wasn’t please just let me cum.
For three hours he’s been doing this. For him, you assume this is amusing. Watching you squirm under his touch. Henry may be cruel tonight, but he wasn’t cruel enough to turn the settings up full. He kept them low, as a warning, occasionally ramping it up when it was just the two of you. You’d be forced to keep the smile on your face, your teeth clamping down against one another as you do so as he would ask you a question, knowing perfectly well you couldn’t answer as the vibrator sent stunning pulses throughout your pussy.
You’d felt your eyes grow heavier, unable to focus and you’d wanted to bend slightly, reach for him and let out of a series of low pants as you worked your way through the stream of vibrations, but as the two of you are in a crowded room, you’d been forced to keep it together and appear as though Henry wasn’t edging the fuck out of you.
Only minutes ago whilst up on stage to present an award, you’d watched as his hand had slipped into his pocket and you knew what was coming; and sadly it wasn’t you. The vibrations had turned on and you’d been forced to stand and attempt to keep a straight face for the duration of his speech. His eyes had locked with yours throughout it and it wasn’t until you’d made a noise, bringing the attention of the woman beside you, that you realised you were losing control.
Henry noticed, without breaking his presenting stride, and switched it off flawlessly without the crowd being any wiser of his quick in pocket turning off the vibrator trick. You’d tried to brush off your reaction to having a bit of heartburn, but she’d insisted on looking after you.
“He’s quite the man, your Henry.” She comments as she hands you the glass.
“He is.” You find yourself agreeing. Had he not decided to play this shitty game, you may have said it with a little more enthusiasm and a little more kindness.
“I’ve wanted to see him settle down now for quite some time. The way he watches you tonight, it’s as though there’s never been another woman in his life. That you’re the one for him.” You’re tempted to ask her how long she’s known him to be making such statements but before you can, he’s making his way back over to your table. One hand is tucked into the pocket of his trousers, those beautiful fingers of his no doubt wrapped around the controller.
He smiles as he passes other tables; making a show as he shakes the hand of some of the men who stand to greet him. You watch as he leans forward, his free hand pats them on the back of their shoulder as they exchange pleasantry jokes before he moves on again. He has the attention of the room and it’s clear to see why.
“Andrea,” Henry beams as he comes into earshot.
“Henry,” the woman beside you replies, a broad smile stretches her painted pink lips. She’s on her feet before he’s within reach, smoothing down her dress before she reaches an arm out, wrapping it over his shoulder as she stands on her tiptoes to pull him into a brief hug. “I was just telling your lady friend here that I’ve wanted you to settle down for many years now.”
“And here we are.” He gives her a closed-lip smile, but the warmth remains. “You’ll be very pleased to know I’m incredibly happy with my girlfriend,” he corrects her, “and I don’t plan to let go of her any time soon.”
“That is wonderful to hear.” She gives his hand a squeeze. “You absolutely deserve all the happiness.”
“Do you mind if I steal her away for a moment or two? I’ve spotted the two of you speaking and I’d hate to interrupt.”
“Not at all,” she gestures for the two of you to slip away, but not before she places the water into your hand. “For her heartburn.” She explains to him.
“Heartburn hmm?” He asks as you move away from her.
“I didn’t say anything.”
“Ahh yes, she does like to fuss.” He says in a quiet voice as he leads you from the busy room. “Though you are looking beautifully flushed tonight,” he says, tucking a loose lock of hair behind your ear.
“I can’t imagine why,” you resist the urge to lean into his touch, even though you’d love to feel the brush of his knuckles over your cheek, the swipe of his thumb over your lips.
“You make it very difficult for me to not want to just take you home right now. Especially knowing what’s under this dress,” his fingers slowly trail up the sides of your dress, feeling where your stockings and suspenders are, attaching to the lace bodysuit that he’d bought you for your anniversary several months back. You enjoyed arriving on set, wearing nothing more than a flashers mack, heels, stockings and this very bodysuit. His hands had traced the soft black chantilly lace, marvelled at the way it had covered your body like a second skin before having his wicked way with you. When he was in that mood, your polite mild-mannered Henry didn’t give a shit who heard as he fucked you into next year.
“I can’t say the thought hadn’t crossed my mind.” You remain where you stand, not allowing your hands to wander as you’d want. Throughout the evening, you’ve tenderly stroked his face, cupped his jaw as he leant in for the lightest of kisses and fixed his tie, you’ve managed to keep them to yourself. Though right now, your gaze is drawn to the thick outline of his swelling cock and you want nothing more than to stroke him until he’s fully hard and leave lipstick marks upon the silky skin of his shaft. “You better hope that tonight passes quickly.”
“Princess, I know you’re not telling me what to do after everything tonight.”
“And if I am?”
He grins down at you, “I hope you are.”
__
“Hmmm, what to do with you?” Henry asks in a quiet voice the moment the two of you are home. Both of you behaved for the rest of the evening. He didn’t abuse the controller, though he had made a gesture once or twice when you’d ignored him. The barely there seconds which he’d switched it on, sending low pulses throughout your cunt had been both divine and a warning. Your attention had once more pulled to him and he was happy once more.
The journey home was pleasant, small talk in front of the driver about the evening, the conversations the two of you had indulged in and though you had suspicions about what was to come, it was perfectly lighthearted. Certainly a calm before the storm, and when in this mood given his words earlier, it doesn’t rain, it pours.
Henry locks the door behind you both, shrugging out of his jacket and unties his shoes as you walk towards the kitchen.
“What to drink? Red? Champagne?” You call out as your finger traces over the bottles.
“Red.” He replies, his voice much closer than you’d anticipated and you jump a little. His footsteps are now beside you, his back is to you and through his shirt, you can see the way his muscles knit together as he reaches for two glasses.
You take them, choosing to take this moment to observe the way his shirt tightens as his muscles flex beneath the fabric as he selects a wine, pulls the cork from the bottle, and requests a glass back and pours a more than healthy amount before handing it back to you.
“Excellent choice.” You tip your glass towards him in a silent toast and he does the same once his own glass is full. After taking a sip, he places the glass upon the countertop and moves, standing with his feet on either side of yours, his hands grasp the edging of the counter as he stares down at you.
You can smell his aftershave, musky, amber and something else, almost pine like, as it fills your nostrils. “You’ve got some making up to me.” He tells you.
“Me? Make it up to you?” You want to scoff and it shows in your tone. “After what you pulled tonight?”
His movements are fluid, ridiculously so as the knuckles of one hand stroke up your neck and his wrist flicks, turning his hand so that his palm covers your throat, his fingers applying the right pressure to stop your movements.
“Keep talking, and your words won’t be the only thing you’ll be choking on.”
You don’t notice the other hand moving but he must have done so because you feel the low setting of the vibrator kick in once more. He waits for you to say anything, and when you remain quiet, he turns it up another notch.
“Good girl,” he whispers as his lips ghost your own. When you remain quiet, he nips at your bottom lip, sucking it between his teeth and nibbles on it. His tongue swipes over where he’s bitten down, alternating between sucking your lip and nibbling on it, drawing a long moan from you before he kisses you properly. His kisses are urgent, deep and demanding. His lips prise open yours, his tongue enters your mouth and claims it.
His hand keeps you from moving, though you’re desperate to grind yourself against him. You could of course try and maneuver your lower body, try to capture his thigh between yours and grind against it. You’ve rode his thigh before, dug your nails into his shoulder as he’d watched you rocking your hips back and forth, your clit pressing against his muscular thigh until you’d climaxed and shit, did you want to come now. Fuck did you need to.
Henry breaks the kiss, though his lips barely leave your skin as he trails them down your neck, sucking small barely there love bites gently on any skin he can reach along the way until he reaches the curve of your dress at your breasts. His fingers reach behind you, tugging down the zip. His lips leave your skin as he steps back, pulling you forward by your throat to pull the zip fully down before stripping the dress from you.
His fingertips trace over the center of your panties, a smirk appears as he feels just how soaked your underwear is.
“I’m going to need to feel that mouth of yours.” You’re pushed to your knees as the vibrations continue, feeling a little more intense as you kneel before him, your thighs clamped together and your pussy tight. It keeps your body on edge, it keeps you in check, it keeps you wanting and needing more. You lean forward, your hand running his length until they reach the zipper, working the button of his trousers and pull his erection free, stroking him from base to tip. It’s now you realise why he’s keeping the vibrator on and not using it intermittently like before - it’s driving you crazy and you move from side to side, rubbing your thighs together with frustration. Sinking your lips down over the first few inches, you whine around him as the shift in your position has the egg pressing against your g-spot and you palm the inches which you can’t fit in your mouth.
Locking eyes with him as your lips sink repeatedly over the velvety head, you move your hand lower each time as another inch of him works its way into your hot mouth. There’s a tug at the corner of his lips as he leans back, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows and watches you take a little too much before you’re fully ready.
Bastard.
His smile spreads further as you choke, your gag reflex kicks in, tears begin to spill down your cheeks as you close your eyes and your throat muscles tense around him but you persevere and he finally lodges himself within your throat.
“Mmm,” he hums, “I love it when you take it all.”
Henry’s hands lace through your hair as you drag your lips back up to the head and you circle the tip with your tongue, gulping in as much air as you possibly can before enveloping his dick into your mouth once. Once he knows you’re comfortable, he rocks his hips back and forth, fucking your mouth exactly as he wishes, occasionally pushing all the way in until your throat bulges with it. Despite the controlled persona he tries to maintain, you can feel himself beginning to lose it.
“Upstairs,” Henry hisses, tugging on your hair and pulling you from his erection, a long thin trail of spit dangles from the tip to your lips. “Now.”
You’re yanked to your feet and your ass is given a slap as you’re urged forward, heels clicking on the flooring as you make your way to the bedroom, noticing the way he stops the vibrations, leaving you unsure if you’re relieved or disappointed. You’re barely inside when you feel Henry’s lips at your neck, his hands stroking their way along your skin before slipping over, feeling the soft skin of your inner thigh. Your pussy clenches, needing to feel his touch there finally.
“I want to give you everything you want. Everything you need.” He whispers against your skin, nipping at your sensitive spots just under your ear. “But I’m going to need you out of this. Leave the stockings and shoes on.” He instructs and you move, undressing yourself not too slow but enough to have his interest completely as you pull the soft material from your body and step out of it. “You’re being a good girl. Why is that?” He asks as he unbuttons his shirt and begins to undress.
You’ve answered previously on another occasion, only to be told you were demanding and wouldn’t be getting what you wanted. He’d edged you for several days, touches here and there, his fingers deep inside your core, bringing you to the most beautiful orgasm before stopping just as you get there, just as you can begin to feel your juices soaking his knuckles as you almost climax. No, you know better than to risk this again.
“I asked you a question,” he says and places both hands on your shoulders, turning you around and presses his palms to you, pushing you back against the bed.
“I’ll take what you wish to give me.”
“What happened to me owing you? What happened to that smart mouth of yours?” He asks as he pushes open your thighs and rests his hands on either side of your ribcage. His erection presses against your soaked core and it takes everything within you not to lift up and grind against it.
“I’ve learnt my place again.”
“How did you manage that?” He asks, brushing his thumb over your bottom lip, only to clench his jaw as you circle your tongue over it and suck it between your lips. “That’s teasing, not learning to control your bratty mouth.” He tells you, pulling his thumb from you and climbing from the bed. You know where he’s going before he’s reached it and you bite your tongue in an attempt to muffle any groan that may sound.
It’s fair to say that your small box of goodies has grown and Henry ensures each new purchase is fully tested and categorized. Foreplay, for solo, for the both of them and during. Restraints, in many variations had seemed like a good idea until you found yourself within them. Henry drops his chosen pieces onto the bed beside you, along with the vibrator remote and gives you a stern look.
“Hands,” he demands and you hold them out, wrists already together before he can ask for that too. His eyebrow raises ever so slightly, barely there but you catch it and you know you’ve pleased him by doing so. The restraints bite at your skin; a combination of a heat and stinging sensation but you remain quiet. He re-positions himself, his lips closing over your nipple and tongues it to a hardened peak as his finger and thumb pinch and tug at the other. You hadn’t felt him move to touch the controller, but the vibrations quickly start up again, ranging from the lowest to a mid setting within ten seconds. Your legs extend, your toes curl within your shoes and your back arches, pressing your tits closer to his face as you cry out his name as your orgasm takes shape once more.
The embers within your belly from earlier ignite once more, heat spreads throughout you as he tongues at your other nipple; the light stubble of his jaw scrapes over your skin and you can’t hold back the whimper that forms in your throat as he pulls his kisses south, his tongue swiping your folds apart and tastes you for the first time this evening. His lips close over your swollen clit. He licks, swirls the tip of his tongue over the sensitive nub, flicks at it mercilessly until you shake, reaching an orgasm with such intensity that as it rolls into a second one almost instantly. He slips two fingers within you and pulls  the egg out with ease.
The buzzing quietens as he switches it off and runs his hands up and down your outer thighs until they reach your ankles. He lifts your leg, placing one at his shoulder and raises your knee of the other leg until it presses against his chest as he kneels before you, tugging down his boxer shorts and palms his cock. Pre-cum drips from the slit and the way your chest rises and falls at the sight of it, doesn’t go unnoticed.
“Want Daddy’s dick?”
“Yes,” you pant pathetically before him.
“Yes what?”
“I need your dick, Daddy.”
“Want me to taste me?”
“Yes Daddy.”
“You should be so lucky. Say it again, do you want my cock?” he demands as he runs the head of his cock along your slit, from your soaked entrance up to your clit and back down again.
“Need your di-” you’re unable to finish your sentence as he pushes inside, bottoming out and begins thrusting without giving you a moment to adjust to his size. Your swollen walls suck him within you until his balls slap against your ass. He feels as deep as you feel tight in this angle. Every drag of his length within you feels blissful as he stretches you open completely.
The more you mewl and whine, the more he fucks you harder until his name drips from your tongue like your cunt drips with wetness. Your gaze switches from watching Henry’s face, admiring the way he bites his lip as he stares transfixed on his cock entering you, reveling in the sight of it as well as the sensation of entering your tight hole and dropping your gaze to watch the very same thing.
Henry was by no means small, he was both perfectly long and thick. The first time you’d felt him, you’d hoped it was smaller than it felt. Seeing it had your panties drenched, your pussy throbbing and your heart racing wondering how you’d remain in one piece. Seeing him enter you so easily, his large size dominating your smallness in comparison is incredible. Your breathing is shaky, it catches in your throat as his pace picks up. Your body rocks with his, your tits bounce with every hard thrust and for the first time, it’s what grabs his attention from the way he pounds into you.
He lowers your legs and your back arches instinctively, lifting your chest upwards and groan as he closes his mouth around your pebbled nipple and alternates between nibbling and sucking. It’s exactly what you need, driving you lift your hand and suck two fingers into your mouth. Once completely slick with wetness, you push your hand between your bodies and play with your clit once more.
“Harder, fuck me harder.” You moan as your fingers quickly match the pace which he takes you. You last, minutes or seconds? You’re not sure anymore. One wave of pleasure is barely finishing when another begins to lick. “Yes, yes, yes,” you repeat, his name quickly following as a mantra as your climax spurts around him. Your pussy throbs, sucking him in deeper. He barely pulls out before he’s pushing back in and this is what he needs to reach his own which follows quickly, his hips coming to a halt, balls pressed against your ass and every inch he has to offer is inside of you as thick ropes of cum paint your core.
Lifting ever so slightly, Henry captures your lips. His kisses are soft and tender, a total contrast to the hate fuck he’s just given you. You reach up and grip his hair, holding him close to you as you kiss him back. He adjusts his body weight and you feel him slowly begin to pull out. Leaning on one forearm, you feel a brief sensation at your opening but it’s gone just as quickly as you feel it. He breaks the kiss, only for his fingers to take its place as he smears your lips with a wetness.
“You wanted a taste, now open up.”

Do you consider yourself not feminine anymore? If i recall correctly you used to wear makeup, feminine clothes and presented androgynous?
I've been meaning to make a post about this, but just didn't get around to it. So prepare yourself for a long answer, because there's a lot behind my change of style. During this past year or so, I went back and forth between feminine/androgynous and masculine presentation a lot. This was partly to figure myself out, and partly just going with the flow. And what I discovered from that was that despite I really love the feminine look aesthetically... it makes me uncomfortable to actually wear it. Like I get super tense and on hypervigilance.
Basically, I don't think I ever enjoyed being feminine as much as I thought. I think I've used it to suppress my masculinity over shame for it. Also, being male-passing makes being feminine quite a social challenge and I no longer feel it's worth it to catch so much attention for self-expression, when it's so much more beneficial to just let people get to know me by talking to me instead. Additionally to that: I hate being sexualised and infantalised for looking/acting feminine. That is a side effect which I absolutely abhor, and it also kinda triggers me.
Aside from style, I looked into my feminine qualities as a person, as you're right: I used to always consider myself feminine and androgynous. However, what I later on discovered was that most of my "feminine qualities" or traits, are not healthy. For example: I've always leaned submissive and passive in any social interactions. Not just sexually, but like just talking to people. I'd never take the lead, never initiate contact, and I still struggle to be assertive. This isn't "just my personality" as I used to think, but actually me being afraid of being berated for how I am. I always hated being called feminine by others, especially by people who know/knew me, and I think this is why.
Another example is my body language/mannerisms. In that I've always kept my legs closed and kept my arms close to my body. Basically I curl up into a little ball a lot, and yes I always have, ever since early childhood. This, I thought was also something innate about me as a person, but later on discovered is actually a defense mechanism, an attempt to protect my body from harm (from other people) as well as from the elements like coldness and rain/snow.
Knowing that, my idea of myself as feminine started to come apart. I had learned to be feminine. From female socialisation and from my trauma, and I think probably from my autism (sensory stuff) as well. Since then I've started to dare spreading myself out a bit more, and working on being more assertive (not talking over people or being aggressive or anything like that though, just standing up for myself and being more firm with what's important to me, boundaries and values, while still remaining empathetic and kind.) And I've noticed it's making me feel a lot better about myself! Much more relaxed, confident and trusting myself better.
And then it strikes me: why are these, much more healthy traits, considered masculine?
When it comes to more external stuff like clothes and makeup: I stopped wearing makeup, some 6 months or so ago (give or take, my memory is bad.) And it made me realise that I'm actually addicted to makeup. Like... I always knew I've had issues with being too dependent on makeup in the past, but never really saw myself as addicted to it. I've quit makeup before, some 10 or so years ago, but then went back to it, and it's just always a slipperly slope, no matter how careful I am about it.
What made it click for me was when I (last year, btw) started getting some outbreaks on my skin which annoyed me. So I decided "I'm just gonna put a little bit of concealer on it to cover up the worst." So I did that, but then thought "actually my cheeks look really red, so I'll just cover that up too" but I didn't stop there. I ended up adding so much concealer that half my face was covered in it. Then added foundation and powder. Then realised I need to bring back some colour in my now monotone face, so did contouring, added highlighter, blush and bronzer. Then did my eyebrows, added eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner and... I think you get the point.
This kept happening several times. Also when I wanted to just wear lipstick, I ended up also adding concealer, doing my eyebrows, dyeing my eyebrows, adding contour, etc.
I can't seem to JUST add a little bit of concealer on the "worst" spots without ending up covering and re-painting my whole face. And then after having done that... I feel like shit. Like I just wanna wipe it off because that's not my face, but I've just spent an hour on that makeup, so it would be a total waste to just wipe it off again. So I keep it on, despite having regretted it all. So eventually, when I got that first thought: "I'm just gonna put a little bit of concealer on it to cover up the worst" I stop myself and don't do it. Instead tell myself that my face is fine and no one's gonna care that I have two red pimples on my cheek. Maybe just put some zinc paste or aloe vera gel on it if it's irritated/sore, but no makeup.
As for just wearing wine red lipstick and nothing else on my face, which obviously doesn't cover anything up: the lipstick dries out my lips really a lot, and makes it difficult to eat and drink with. It stains on clothes and I have to be careful when scratching my beard/mustache, etc. That is not like a huge sacrifice, but it does make me tense. Also, people stare at me a lot when I do that, haha. "Why is that man wearing lipstick?" Oh I dunno Harry, you could ask. If people only knew my history. But I'm not saying I'd never do it again. I mostly just need a break from makeup altogether before I start considering only wearing lipstick in my favourite colour again, because doing that is obviously very different from wearing a full face of makeup. But I need to uhh... recover from my addiction first. I need to love my bare face first, I need to be able to not care what I look like.
Then as for clothing: Generally it's very similar. I think I subconsciously connect feminine clothing to "looking pretty" and masculine clothing to "looking plain/boring/mediocre" without consciously thinking that. But for this past year, that subconscious thinking changed, when I got really into men's classic clothing by watching youtube channels of very fashion-obsessed men. Like they talk about suits a lot, and details like neckties, pocket squares, matching socks, brocade shoes, how to get the best fit, what colours go with what, and so on.
I used to never care about suits, but now I'm kinda impressed by them, haha. Like they're simple, yet so complex. They're comfortable, yet so stylish, and they're timeless. I used to be kinda goth and think "normal" clothes were boring. But this changed me. I bought a cheap navy suit, and started craving wearing brown leathers instead of black. I discovered a whole, amazing world of men's fashion, and I fell in love with it.
What used to be "boring" has now become a rich world of amazing fabrics, cuts and styles. Twill, tweed, cuffs, collars, denim, flannel, leather, linen, suede, corduroy, oh my! And then I started loving the even much more simple look of dark blue cuffed jeans, flannel shirt, zippered hoodie, fleece jacket, brown leather belt, wrist watch with brown leather strap, and brown leather boots. It's super plain and mediocre, but the comfort and the shades of brown and blue really speaks to me. I love the look so much I ended up wearing it every day for over a month now, just changing flannels to always wear a clean one, and washing it all bi-weekly.
What is that, is it me?! Lol. Well, I love it. I think it's an important journey of self-discovery. Of finding comfort with myself and wearing clothes that move with my body, instead of forcing my body to move with my clothes. Of finding comfort with who I actually am as a person, instead of trying so hard to paint myself up as the inner mental image I have of my ideal self. I still hold onto that picture, but I also rather enjoy to focus on being clean and smelling good, being minimally groomed and comfortable - instead of looking fancy.
But also, dressing masculine helps with my dysphoria too. Being off testosterone, and wearing a lightly padded sports bra on occasion spikes my dysphoria (although it soothes something else within me) and dressing hyper-masculine helps calming that down.
Also, shaving my head back in November, and letting go of my long locks, because my hair has thinned out really a lot... made something else click in me as well: letting go of external beauty, in favour for letting the beauty within truly shine.
So what if I look like a burly hipster dude? Everyone gets unfairly judged for how we look. It's not even always about gender. But I've started to ask myself what's the point of trying super hard to "show my personality" in my style, when people are more likely to actually listen to what I tell them about myself when I'm dressed plain, instead of being too busy placing false assumptions on me?
I think I'm learning something very important about myself, and finding strength within myself, to just be me. And I never gave my masculinity the credit it deserved, because I believed my forced, unhealthy behaviours and misconceptions of masculinity as "boring" meant I was just feminine as a person. That's what the world taught me to think. But of course, I'm not denying that yes, I absolutely used to express myself very feminine, and I'm not gonna claim that I've always been hyper-masculine.
This is the first time in my life I'm truly enjoying masculinity and feeling liberated, strengthened and invigorated by it. The first time I do it to prove myself to only myself, that I don't need nor want to be feminine, and that's okay. That female masculinity is not being boring or sloppy. The first time that it's not to impress others as "man enough" as the insecure trans man I once was. And that matters a lot to me, even if it doesn't last into my 40's.
I might at some point again occasionally wear some lipstick, a long flowy skirt, or put flowers in my beard. But I need to fully indulge in my masculinity for now, and let it set me free from the chackles of forced feminisation that came with female socialisation, which I grew up with, like most women did. I am just so DONE with having those fucked female beauty standards shoved down my throat, which no, not even transitioning let me escape from. Because transitioning can't let me escape my own (brainwashed) mind. That's something I have to work on to break down piece by piece, and to rebuild myself, by hand.
I'm constantly evolving and learning more stuff about myself and the world, and I'm a sponge for such knowledge. I've never been afraid to take on change, especially drastic changes, and to challenge my own harmful behaviours (like my makeup addiction) as soon as I realise the harm is no longer worth the joy. I can't keep up with me either, but looking back on my life and seeing how much I've grown, is always quite exciting, haha.
However, I'm still wearing cutesy cotton panties with lace edges and a little bow at the upper front. I do that because it's femininity that's ONLY for me. It's actually comfortable, makes me smile whenever I go to the bathroom, and no one else can see it. So it cannot be sexualised or infantalised by other people, despite being such an intimate pieces of clothing, because only I get to see it. (Although of course an intimate partner and very close friends would see it, but that's gonna be people I trust a lot to begin with.)

10 Yoga Myths Dispelled
Tumblr media
Yoga is popular nowadays. Preferred. According to a current Yoga Journal survey, over 20 million Americans technique yoga on a normal basis, up from 15.8 million in 2004. Yoga exercise technique has clearly found its stride as well as is attracting more followers everyday. While numerous people are enjoying the benefits of yoga, there are many others that are unfortunately scared off due to ill-founded misconceptions and misunderstandings regarding what yoga is. Like any type of other popular task, yoga can come down with stereotyping as well as brushing up generalizations if you're resistant to look below the surface area to really experience the significance of the practice. When you dig a little much deeper, however, you soon find a straightforward as well as extensive reality: yoga is for everyone.
The complying with are several of the most preferred misconceptions and also misunderstandings bordering yoga as well as its method. If you are a yogi, perhaps you once held one or even more of these incorrect ideas prior to experience changed your mind. If you're brand-new to yoga exercise or pussyfooting and uncertain concerning taking the dive, check out these myths and also see if they might be holding you back from finding your put on the mat.
Myth 1: Yoga Exercise Is Nearly Stretching
While on the surface, yoga exercise may seem an easy stretching or calisthenics regular, it is far, much more. The yoga exercise positions or asanas that the majority of individuals relate to stretching just comprise a tiny part of a very arrant viewpoint, science, and means of life. The word yoga means union-- the union of body, mind, spirit, breath, and also setting. It develops an all-inclusive as well as comprehensive worldview.
The vast warehouse of Vedic as well as yogic thought comprises a body of understanding that upholds yoga as a total as well as complete path of liberation. The classic 8 limbs of yoga exercise enumerated by the fantastic yogic sage Patanjali consist of rules for:
Social behavior
Personal observances
Mind-body combination exercises
Breathing techniques
Focusing of the senses
Mastery of focus as well as intention
Meditation
Experience of pure awareness
Myth 2: Yoga Is Only for Women
There's no question that yoga is more preferred with females than men. The majority of yoga exercise courses have far a lot more women than male individuals. This wasn't always the situation. In the documents of time, yoga exercise was traditionally practiced almost solely by men in old India. With its arrival in the West nonetheless, yoga exercise began to draw a huge lady following. No matter, yoga exercise is not a gender-specific task. Guy and women alike can practice as well as gain from a routine yoga practice.
Myth 3: You Need to Be Flexible and also fit to Practice Yoga
Many potential yogis obtain frightened off from yoga exercise method by photos of extremely adaptable or in shape yogis beautifying the covers of magazines or website write-ups. They see someone in an asana as well as erroneously presume that versatility as well as toughness are prerequisites for the practice. In truth, flexibility and also health and fitness come as results of yoga exercise, not as requirements.
While it holds true that yoga poses can develop toughness, flexibility, and equilibrium, you can practice yoga exercise without having those skills or qualities and also still receive all the terrific mind and body benefits. Yoga exercise is for every single body, no issue what body you offer the technique. High or brief, thick or slim, young or old, yoga exercise is suggested to adjust to you, not the other method around.
Myth 4: You Required Fancy Garments and Floor Covering to Exercise Yoga
The popularity of yoga worldwide has actually developed an one-of-a-kind as well as unanticipated offshoot-yoga gear. Entire companies now exist to provide yogis with specialized apparel, mats, gear bags, and sweat towels. While these add-ons can be wonderful, they remain in no other way needed to exercise yoga. Take into consideration that the ancient yogis once carried out yoga on beds of leaves in a forest using only loin cloths. You don't need to be that marginal in your practice, it's essential to remember that yoga exercise is an "inward stroke"-- taking your understanding within.
External looks like that showy brand-new floor covering or those fashionable new yoga trousers exist on the material-level of your recognition, while the actual method of yoga coaxes you to go deeper. Yoga can be exercised in whatever feels comfortable for you, with or without a mat, with simply a couple of feet of void in which to move.
Myth 5: Yoga Is a Religion
Because of its ancient Indian roots and connections to Hinduism, yoga exercise usually obtains misidentified as a religion. It is in fact much more like a scientific research (In India, yoga is typically assumed of as a science of Self-Realization). Thus, yoga exercise technique is likened to a laboratory in which you are both the subject and the object of your experiment, the objective of which is to awaken your very own internal capacity as well as the divinity within.
The stereotypical ideas in some cases invoked via rules, chants, or pictures of a particular deity are indicated to awaken the inactive potential of those states of awareness that stay within you. But those techniques are not called for to gain from yoga practice, neither does their use carry a religious undertone. Yoga is not regarding external praise, it has to do with inner exploration.
Myth 6: Yoga Is Too Easy
Those that check out yoga with a totally physical lens may assume it's also mild or moderate to be of any benefit. The "No Discomfort, No Gain" attitude so typical in the contemporary fitness culture paints an image of results based upon effort and also battle. While yoga, particularly restorative yoga exercise practices such as The 7 Spiritual Laws of Yoga, can concentrate on doing less to achieve extra, it does not suggest that yoga exercise is very easy or passive.
The mind-body control needed during yoga method differs from many various other kinds of workout because your complete interest is involved and existing in each movement. Unlike running on a treadmill while enjoying television, yoga involves all facets of your being, making it more tough than it might show up on the surface area. Yoga exercise links your:
Mind
Body
Emotions
Senses
Breathing
Environment
Myth 7: Yoga Is Too Hard
At the opposite end of the spectrum are those who avoid yoga due to the fact that they fear it will certainly be as well tough. Being afraid that their bodies "do not go this way," numerous will pull out of yoga exercise and also lose out on its many benefits. Provided, some yoga exercise presents can appear intimidating, but the gorgeous aspect of the practice is that it meets you where you are. The suggestion is not to force yourself into a yoga exercise posture - it has to do with adapting the position to fit your body where it is today.
There are always alternatives to any offered pose. Yoga motivates you to pay attention to your body's signals of comfort and discomfort, and also pick those presents that really feel best for you. As you become more comfy with yourself in the method, you can check out more tough poses, and also frequently, to your shock, they end up being much easier to acquire than you once believed.
Myth 8: Yoga Will Make You Self-Conscious
Performing any kind of brand-new activity with people you don't recognize can mix up insecurity and also self-consciousness, yet prospective yogis shouldn't fear this. Bear in mind that yoga exercise is concerning deepening the conversation in between your mind and body-it's a personal journey. Bothering with what others think maintains your awareness stuck at the degree of the vanity as well as personality.
Yoga has to do with being fully existing as well as knowledgeable about who you are in the minute. The technique encourages genuine credibility and self-acceptance. The even more you start to accept yourself in the practice, the earlier you'll observe a much deeper bond creating between you and also your other schoolmates. Everyone is a wave on the substantial ocean of Spirit. Yoga permits you to express yourself with openness, compassion, and vanity.
Myth 9: Your Physical Condition Prevents You from Exercising Yoga
While there are some contraindications for doing yoga, it is on the whole an extremely obtainable method that nearly anyone, at any type of age or problem can exercise. Once once more, it is necessary to consider yoga exercise as flexible to your life and who you are. Take what you require, as well as enable yoga exercise to provide you its gifts.
There are various styles of yoga exercise, each with an one-of-a-kind focus or analysis of these ageless teachings, so if one yoga exercise institution or class does not work for you, try another until you discover the appropriate fit. On top of that, take into consideration chair yoga or the usage of yoga exercise props such as blocks or bands to assist you in your method. If you can't go to a course, try a DVD or on-line video clip. The alternatives are many if you're eager to try.
Myth 10: Yoga Is Just a Fad
Although yoga may appear to be simply one more stylish workout program that will be replaced by the following gimmick to hit the scene, it's really much from being a brand-new point, as well as it's not likely to go out of appeal anytime quickly. Yoga exercise has been around for countless years. While modern books, classes, video clips, and workshops are fairly new methods of connecting its classic mentors, yoga exercise has actually been an established as well as proven means to incorporate all the layers of life as well as stir up human potential for countless generations.
The determination of yoga's charm is quite simple-- it functions. Whether in the research laboratory of scientific study on mind-body and awareness study or in the subjective framework of an individual's life, yoga has actually stood the examination of time and also will remain to do so.
Spend a long time reviewing these misconceptions. If several of these mistaken beliefs has actually been holding you back from attempting yoga exercise, embrace the truth behind them and fear say goodbye to. Jump off that fencing and also step onto the mat. You won't be sorry.

The mysterious and mystical image of the moon has always attracted the attention of people. For creative and gifted natures, she was a source of inspiration, the Moon helped people in love to tell each other all the secrets and secrets of the heart. This celestial body is very clearly visible to the earth observer, and since ancient times people have noted for themselves the relationship between the lunar phases (new moon, growing moon, full moon and waning moon) and the state of health, mood and cycles of reproduction. Knowledge of the rhythms of the moon allowed us to predict the tides, and increase the productivity of plants. Ancient healers focused on the phases of the moon in the collection and processing of medicinal plants, and physicians with the help of astrological knowledge successfully determined a favorable time for medical procedures and operations.
The moon in the horoscope
Most people know their solar zodiac sign, that is, take into account the position of the Sun in the sign at the time of his birth. The solar horoscope will tell a lot about the personality, its Outlook and aspirations. Meanwhile, the Moon, its location in the moment of the first breath of man and its other characteristics are also very important. The moon will help to reveal the peculiarities of one's personal life to understand his individual qualities, habits and preferences. Analysis of the position of the moon in the Natal chart, among other things, will clarify the following points:
The image of the mother in the horoscope;
The relationship of the individual to children;
Attitude to home and family;
The image of the beloved woman in the male horoscope;
Characteristics of women as mothers and wives in the women's horoscope;
Ability to adapt and restore vitality;
Taste preferences;
The rhythm and style of life.
According to traditional ideas — the Moon is a symbol of all adaptation mechanisms, psychological, symbolizing the subconscious, social, determining the behavior and response of humans, biological, being associated with nutrition, and so on. This property is inherent only to the moon and is decisive for it, therefore, the principle of the moon — adaptation. What is adaptation from the standpoint of individuality? This is the ability and desire (not the intention, as in the case of the Sun, namely the desire, which has an emotional color) to optimally realize in the outside world all its internal capabilities, all its inherent (individuality) properties and qualities. In other words, adaptation is an implementation process.
Function
Since the principle of the moon is adaptation to the conditions of existence, its function is survival, individual life. That is why it symbolizes in specific tasks everything that contributes to this — the mother, homeland, your home, the nature of emotional reactions, the most comfortable place and circumstances of existence and so on. For realization of individual life it is necessary automatically, without participation of consciousness (without using the conscious analysis of a situation, instinctively) to show the uniqueness, the creative solar beginning.
Role
The moon gives a person the appearance of life, gives the solar creative impulse an external form of expression, determining the specifics of the emotional state and behavior, their changes. In this sense, the role of the Sun and the moon are oppositional — the Sun symbolizes the content, and the Moon shape, here the Sun is active and the Moon is passive. Therefore, the role of the moon can be defined as the appearance, the form of manifestation.
Signifier of organs and diseases
The moon shows the ability of man to adapt, is responsible for the absorption of nutrients. Associated with the stomach, uterus, Breasts, endocrine system, in particular, with the pancreas (along with Venus, Neptune and Pluto), is responsible for the mucous membrane of any organ, cerebellum, lymph, leukocytes and blood plasma. It gives nervous disorders, stomach diseases, acidity disorders, gastritis, colitis, fluid saturation, endocrine disorders as a result of inflammation of the glands, vision defects, allergies and women's diseases.
A STRONG MOON
For a person, understanding and sympathy from others are extremely important. Strong internal needs and desires. Reactions are largely determined by the mood, which is constantly changing. The need takes care of those who are in the worst position. Sincerity, but, on the other hand, impressionability, mental changeability, capriciousness.
WEAK MOON
The lack of serious significant to the subject's needs and social expectations. Emotional underdevelopment. Lack of intuition.
STRUCK BY THE MOON
Probable bad relationship with her mother, difficult childhood, obstacles with unclear reasons, others, like "undeserved", burden and grief. Anxiety, abundance of complexes, doubts, distrust.
A HARMONIOUS MOON
Almost complete peace of mind in almost any circumstances. Ability to easily learn, good memory, ability to listen.
HIGHLY HARMONIOUS MOON
Developed intuition, subtle perception, impressionability.
The moon is a symbol of femininity and motherhood
Everyone imagines the movement of the moon. She always accompanies the Earth in its journey around the Sun and does not leave it without attention for a second. Is not it true that this relationship is reminiscent of maternal care and custody of the child? This comparison is not accidental. The phenomena of the cosmic world are always reflected in the earthly reality, and therefore each planetary interaction in the Natal chart creates a unique code of the earth's inhabitant.
So, the Moon is a symbol of the feminine, which is designed to protect, care, protect, nurture and nurture. In the horoscope of the Natal chart, she will describe the female and maternal image inherent in the consciousness of the individual, talk about the attitude to children, as well as to the house and the family as a whole.
For example, the Moon in the sign of Cancer is a very strong position for her. Such a person will be distinguished by a strong attachment to the house, concern for the comfort and well-being of all members of his family. The moon in Cancer are always fed, warm, listen to and hug.
But the mother with the Moon in the air Twins will take care of children and loved ones differently. For her, the main thing is to create conditions for the intellectual development of the child and make the pastime of family members fun, interesting and diverse.
So, the Moon is in a female Natal chart describes the woman as wife, mother and mistress of the house, the Keeper of the hearth. Astrological analysis of the moon in a man's horoscope will not only recreate the image of his mother and identify the specifics of the relationship with her, but also help to determine the type of woman he considers attractive.
The moon and the unconscious
Everyone knows that the Moon is always turned to the Earth only one of its sides. The other side is always invisible to the earthly observer. That is why this heavenly body is responsible for the human psyche, or rather for its unconscious part. If the Moon is in the horoscope a strong status and has a favorable interaction with other planets of the Natal chart, the subject feels the harmony in the soul, and even if you are having any difficulties in life, he easily overcomes times of trouble.
Owners of the moon, located in the tense aspects with other planets (eg, mercury, Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter or Uranus), in the event of stress and depression should pay attention to relaxing procedures and practices (yoga, meditation, balneological procedures, massage and swimming), timely take a vacation and, of course, visit professionals who will be able to provide the necessary psychological assistance.
Moon and health
If we talk about the work of the body, the function of the moon is the distribution of energy in the human body. It is also responsible for the circulation of fluids, the processes of assimilation of food, the function of procreation and feeding the baby.
People who have a strong and harmonious principle of the moon in the horoscope (for example, the Moon in Cancer or Taurus, the Moon in the corner houses, in good aspects, etc.) are distinguished by good memory, rapid recovery from diseases, good adaptation to changing conditions, stress resistance, good female and male health).
Those who want to tune in to harmony within themselves, improve health and well-being, perhaps, should pay attention to the energy properties of minerals with lunar energy.  These include moonstone, pearls, rhinestone, as well as beryl, opal and aquamarine gently light shades. The stones will help to find a balance within yourself, overcome depression, normalize sleep and improve digestion. If you put the mineral next to the bed restless child, it will reduce anxiety and calm his emotions. Any of the lunar minerals will bring to human life a lot of positive energy, mutual understanding, family happiness and love.
So, the Moon in the Natal chart will tell you a lot about the character, behavior, habits and needs of a person. Astrological information about the moon, its aspects, position in signs and houses will help the owner of the horoscope to better understand his inner world, and his loved ones – to create an atmosphere of comfort and safety for a loved one and build a harmonious relationship with him, based on care and understanding.

The monomyth known as
the Hero’s Journey
has become widely popular. Unfortunately,
the original
was clearly intended for men and not women. In response, some feminists have created their own, female-centered version, called the Heroine’s Journey. Lucky for us storytellers, both can be abstracted into a structure that works for a wide array of stories.
I’ll take you through a tour of The Heroine’s Journey by Maureen Murdock. She created this journey to help real women through life’s hardships, but it has a lot to offer as a story structure. In honor of its feminist roots, I will refer to the central character as the heroine, with female pronouns. However, it applies to male characters just as well.
To show you how it might work in a story, I’m going to develop an ongoing example. I’ll name my heroine Mara. As we go through the steps of the structure, she’ll ride beside us.
Why Use the Heroine’s Journey?
Like other mythic structures, you should use the Heroine’s Journey if it fits the story you want to tell. The structure of the Heroine’s Journey is particularly well suited for:
Character arcs: The stages of the original framework correlate with how the heroine feels, not what she is doing. I’ve externalized this framework, but it’s still a strong choice for a story about an internal struggle.
Quests for identity: The heroine may battle dragons and claim treasure, but the real core of the story is her struggle to find herself.
Themes of privilege and oppression: The heroine taking the journey must triumph despite living in a society that undervalues who she is. You don’t have to include privilege and oppression in your story, but if you want it, this framework will help you bring it out.
Most of all, the Heroine’s Journey is about a heroine who must find balanceas she struggles between the sides of a duality.
Finding Your Duality
First, identify the duality that lives within your heroine. It might be obvious. If you have a half elf, half human caught between those races, that’s clearly your duality. It can also be abstract concepts – perhaps your heroine’s caught between membership in a group and following her individual path. Or between the excitement of travel and the comforts of home. Whatever it is, both sides must be essential to her wellbeing. If you use the light side and the dark side of the Force, you’ll need to portray the dark side as constructive when used in moderation.
The structure refers to one side of the duality as the feminine, and the other as the masculine. Your next step is to pick which side of your duality is which. Use your discretion, but in general:
The feminine is the side of the duality that your heroine identified with as a small child. However, society undervalues the feminine. The story begins as the heroine chooses to reject it.
The masculine is the side of the duality that your heroine adopts as she comes of age. Society prizes the masculine, but in many tales it has been poisoned, misinterpreted, or taken to such extremes that it has become harmful. The heroine sets out on her journey by embracing it.
Example
Mara is a war orphan who was raised by the Sali people. They’re a peaceful farming culture that meditates every day and values quiet and contemplation. However, they’re a minority in the nation they live in. Their culture and society will be Mara’s feminine. Though they raised her, Mara is actually descended from a warrior culture, called the Barock. Once nomads, they’re now the ruling class. They will be her masculine.
The Eight Stages of the Heroine’s Journey
Here’s an overview of the stages of the journey. I lightly modified the stages from Murdock’s original structure to create a version that was easier for writers to follow.
1. Shift from Feminine to Masculine
During stage one, the heroine rejects the feminine in favor of the masculine. She may still be tied to the feminine, but she increasingly resents that attachment.
The Mother
She could have any number of reasons for rejecting the feminine, but a unhappy relationship with a feminine role model, known as the mother, is chief among them. To the heroine, the mother represents the worst of the feminine end of her duality. She might be powerless, unhappy, flawed, or just interpreted that way. The mother is threatening to the heroine because she’s afraid of becoming her, just as Luke Skywalker fears becoming Darth Vader.
Alternatively, the mother may be intimidating in her strength and perfection, particularly if you decide to make the feminine more privileged than the masculine in your story. The heroine may reject her to avoid feeling inadequate next to her.
The Father
As she rejects the mother, the heroine will embrace a metaphorical father. The father represents whatever the heroine admires in the masculine. He may have a dark side, or be a despicable person altogether, but she isn’t aware of that yet. He opens to the door to a path that leads away from the mother, and makes the heroine feel like she could succeed on that path. In turn, she does her best to gain his attention and approval.
He offers an escape from the mother, but at the same time he might rub in that the heroine is tied to the lowly feminine. He could praise her strength and brilliance as he tells her the feminine makes her weak and stupid. This will only spur her harder to prove herself in his eyes.
As a result of this dynamic, the heroine discards the feminine, and any part of herself tied to it.
Example
Mara has no memory of before she came to live with the Sali. She is content to live with them until she turns twelve, and is allowed to go into town to trade at the market. There she learns that everyone thinks of the Sali as cowards, because they hide behind their walls when the swarm comes, instead of helping to protect everyone. She also meets the Barock. They look like her, and they appear powerful and confident. She’s curious about them; the older warriors humor her by showing her how to handle their weapons.
But her Sali guardian doesn’t approve of the way Mara has begun to prize possessions she gained in the marketplace, or how she runs off to the market when she has nothing to trade. He forbids her from going to the market for a month, instead mandating regular meditation. This only makes her more determined to leave the Sali and join the Barock.
2. The Road of Trials
In stage two, the heroine sets off on a journey, departing the ordinary of the feminine and fully embracing the masculine. This might mean she actually leaves home, sword in hand, or it could just mean that she abandons sewing classes and goes fishing instead.
Regardless, she has something to prove to herself and others. In her new journey, she is surrounded by masculine allies. They still think she is less, or at least not one of them. In her heart, she believes they’re right. But that doesn’t mean she’ll give up. She’s fixated on showing everyone that they’re wrong.
For that, she needs big victories. She wants something to show others, like a trophy or treasure. In pursuit of her prize she will face threshold guardianswho try to deter her, and battle real or metaphorical monsters.
In her enthusiastic pursuit of the masculine, she forgets to stay in touch with her inner self. All her actions are designed to make her look better to her masculine allies; she never does anything because she simply wants to do it. She’s always compensating for the feminine lurking within her.
Example
At sixteen Mara finally comes of age. She forgoes the Sali coming of age ceremony, and abruptly leaves to join a band of Barock warriors. She wants to help them protect others against the swarm. The group agreed to take her, but not all of them think it was wise. They’ve been training with weapons their entire lives, and their skill is superior to hers.
So she trains day and night. Whenever there is a fight, she is out in front; no one can call her a coward. The mark of a great Barock warrior is the stinger of a swarm queen. She’s determined to capture one of her own.
3. The Illusion of Success
By stage three, the heroine has faced great trials and emerged victorious. She feels the thrill of success, and her confidence is bolstered by the applause of others. She has built an impressive, masculine reputation.
But that does not dull her appetite for adventure and victory in masculine pursuits. On the contrary, as soon as she finds success on one quest, she immediately sets out on another. Her victories are never enough, so she tries to do more and more to distract herself. She must maintain the outside validation and applause that makes her feel justified as a person.
Somewhere inside, she begins to realize that something is missing from her life. She feels stretched thin. She looks in the mirror, and isn’t sure she knows the person looking back. Even her victories seem empty. She counsels the great and powerful, but does not feel great and powerful herself.
Example
Mara collects her first queen stinger, and then another, and yet more. In her twentieth year, she destroys an entire swarm with a fire trap, and is hailed as the savior of the town. The Barock remark that she is remarkable despite her Sali upbringing, and she’s given a pass to watch as the High Council deliberates.
But the stingers and praise feel small and trivial to her. They were too long in coming and too hard won. Mara spends her spare time pouring over her battle maps, devising new strategies to try against the swarm. She never stops to rest, because she doesn’t know what she would do with herself if she did. She is nothing without her endless hunt of the swarm.
4. The Descent
In stage four, tragedy strikes. It could be a cataclysm that shakes the world, or a private matter that no one else knows of. Regardless, she is suddenly made aware of what’s really important to her. When her allies come to usher her along on the next adventure, she turns them down.
They tell her she is a coward. Or perhaps that she is selfish, impulsive, or whatever despised quality the masculine attributes to the feminine. But she doesn’t hear them. She is already far away, undergoing her own inner turmoil.
She begins a period of voluntary isolation, descending into a metaphorical cave. There time passes slowly. It’s dark; there are no sights or sounds to distract her. There she searches for herself.
She may have to sift through a maelstrom of emotions. Anger, remorse, and grief may all set upon her. She might be afraid to follow her thoughts and feelings to their conclusion, but she knows she must.
Example
Mara and her warriors are battling against a large swarm that is precariously close to a village. A lookout catches sight of the queen in the distance. There is just the barest of openings to pursue her. Mara takes it, leading a group after the queen.
She succeeds, but on her return, Mara finds her departure opened a breach in the defense. As a result, a nearby Sali settlement was overrun, killing everyone inside. The old memories of being in the Sali come back to her and she weeps over the fallen. She tells her warriors to move on, but she stays to bury every one of them. The Barock think she’s lost her nerve, but they eventually leave. She continues her work alone.
5. Meeting With the Goddess
The heroine begins stage five in her darkest hour. But she is rewarded for her struggle when she encounters the goddess.
The goddess symbolizes the true nature of the feminine, and the best of what the heroine left behind. The goddess imparts a great truth to the heroine about herself and the feminine.
When the heroine parts with the goddess, she feels reborn.
Example
Mara spends weeks burying the fallen. She leaves the destroyed settlement, but does not return to the Barock. Instead she wanders aimlessly.
Then Mara sees an old Sali city, abandoned since the invasion of the Barock long ago. She goes there and walks through what’s left of the ancient Sali temples and streets. Everything is familiar from her childhood, yet greater than it. She is filled with nostalgia and wonder. She remembers the happy days in her Sali settlement, and begins to miss it.
She is perplexed by how open the city is. It has no walls to block out the swarm. The only thing marking the city borders are enormous braziers. She can only conclude that before the Barock came, the Sali did not struggle against the swarm like they do now.
6. Reconciliation With the Feminine
In stage 6, the heroine heads back to the familiar surroundings she left behind. She finds and nurtures her inner child, the part of her left from before she rejected the feminine. She may seek to bond with the mother, and to gain new understanding about her.
She spends her time on simple tasks of a feminine nature. She receives no glory for her toil. Former allies find her and try to convince her to return to the way she was before her descent. Even the mother or others of the feminine may not welcome her back, remembering her rejection of them with bitterness.
But she continues her humble work. She maintains hope that if she continues down the path that feels right to her, she will be redeemed. She waits patiently for improvement.
Example
Mara returns to the settlement she was raised in. They tell her she is not a member of the Sali, because she did not undergo the coming of age rite of their people. But she refuses to go. She sits on their steps and fasts until they allow her to work the land beside them. She speaks with childhood friends, but they hesitate to socialize with her.
Her Barock warriors find her there. They tell her to get herself together and come back with them. She refuses. They warn her there is a swarm that is coming soon. She says she has other, more important work. Slowly, the Sali begin to trust her again. She undergoes the coming of age ceremony she missed.
7. Reincorporation of the Masculine
In stage seven, a crisis erupts in the realm of the feminine. In dealing with this crisis, the heroine once again faces the masculine side of herself, ready to emerge and dominate. She now understands the inner need that the masculine fulfills, and why she lost herself in it before. She recognizes that while the masculine was not her true goal, it was an important part of her journey.
And she refuses to let it take control. Instead, she channels her masculine impulses to positive ends. She solves the crisis with serenity and grace. When it is over, she asks for no rewards.
Example
There is a weakness in the wall around the Sali settlement. When the swarm comes it breaks and they leak through. Mara does not have her sword, so she grabs a staff and runs out to fight them. She blocks the opening in the wall, allowing the Sali to fall back and reach safety. She is tempted to continuing fighting, to see if she can outlast the swarm. But the Sali call her to retreat behind the next wall. They will survive without the crops the swarm will destroy. She listens, and retreats.8. The Union
By stage 8, the heroine has found balance between the feminine and the masculine. But she is not finished until she helps others find that balance as well. She uses her synergy of the feminine and masculine to bring everyone, on either side, together. If they are embattled by a great enemy, her leadership guides them to victory.
If it fits your story, this is also the time to discard your duality altogether. The heroine could reveal that it is false, arbitrary, or destructive.
Example
With permission from the Sali leaders, Mara acquires a new set of weapons. They are not flashy, but functional. However, she does not think that simply cutting down the swarm is the answer. The Sali traditionally burn a special incense when the swarm comes, but only inside because it’s not allowed elsewhere. She thinks this incense repels the swarm, and that is how the Sali used to survive before the Barock came. Mara convinces the Barock leaders of the town to try it.
The Sali gather the ingredients for the incense in large quantities, and prepare bonfires. Because there are no large and protected braziers to burn it in, Barock warriors must protect the fires from the swarm when it comes, or the creatures might put them out too quickly to have an effect. The swarm comes, grouping together and rushing at the fires. The warriors stay firm. Soon, the whole area is filled with the fumes from the incense. The swarm weakens and retreats. The town is completely undamaged.
The town leaders mandate the construction of large braziers immediately afterwards. The Sali and Barock design and build them together.
The Union With the Hero’s Journey
If you’re a structure-phile who’s been wondering this whole time whether your story could be both a hero’s and a heroine’s journey, your answer is “yes!” Mara just did it.
Here’s how the stages of these two structures match up:
Heroine’s JourneyHero’s Journey
Shift From Feminine to MasculineOrdinary World; Call to Adventure
The Road of TrialsCrossing the Threshold; Tests, Allies & Enemies
The Illusion of SuccessThe Approach
The DescentThe Ordeal
Meeting With the GoddessThe Reward
Reconciliation With the FeminineThe Road Back
Reincorporation of the MasculineThe Resurrection
The UnionThe Return with the Elixir
Because the hero’s journey focuses on external struggle, and the heroine’s journey focuses on internal struggle, they have a lot to offer each other.
Applying the Structure to Your Story
It’s important to remember that the Heroine’s and Hero’s Journeys aren’t recipes that should be followed precisely. Don’t add a literal goddess to your scifi story just because the Heroine’s Journey has a goddess stage. Instead, find a world-appropriate story element that symbolizes truth, and use that. It’s these larger, more general concepts that make the structures strong. Use them to find meaning and inspiration for your story, and bring them out. If breaking the rules of the journey makes your story feel stronger to you, do it.

Shakespeare and the Goddess of Complete Being
[Shakespeare and the Goddess of Complete Being. Ted Hughes. 1992. Faber & Faber Ltd, London. 504 pages]
I do not think it an accident that Ted Hughes was brave enough to tackle this subject.  An award-winning poet himself, Hughes was husband to the poet Sylvia Plath, and seems equally at home in drama and mythology. Plath’s artistry and suffering must have informed and influenced Hughes, whose book tracing about a dozen Shakespearean works focuses on the tragic hero’s terrible relationship to women. This deeply disturbing and yet mythological theme in these plays, Hughes reduces to a Tragic Equation and compares this Tragic Equation in terms of psychology and even psychobiology, a term new to me. It is interesting that Hughes does not describe his Goddess Of Complete Being as a Supreme Being, but rather more like the Mother Earth, or Mother Nature Herself, or even Plath’s White Goddess, all of which Hughes mentions as examples of female divinity. For Hughes the ultimate truth is bound up not with spirits hovering magically in the forest air, but to be found in the bosom of women. Not that Hughes’s equation is formulated from a woman’s point of view; no, rather from the point of view of the boys who become men, that is warriors, monarchs, poets, and playwrights. Hughes draws our attention to the one thing the tragic heroes have in common in the Shakespearean tragedies, behaviour towards women that is brutish, if not violent. This is a brave thesis, and probably not one that would have been published if proposed by a woman. He calls this theory the Tragic Equation.
The Tragic Equation begins, according to Hughes, when the adolescent who is precariously independent from the Mother Goddess and the paralysing force of her love, as a aavaictime of new and uncontrollable sexual energy searching for union with an unknown female, and in Elizabethan society that female is bound to be fairly unknown. Hughes declares the origin of this Tragic Equation is the severing of the emotional bonds with the mother. This emotional recoil which coincides with the first sexual urgings, he believes results, for the man of leisure and intelligence, in a ‘madness’. He convinced me that this ‘madness’ is substantiated throughout the oeuvre. We cannot deny the fact that the infant male, for many years, is in the powerful kingdom of the female, who has miraculous powers to give birth to a human being, must be affected in his search for his male identity. For Hughes this is an adequate reason to explain distrust and hatred of women that Shakespeare’s tragic heroes experience before their final downfall. So it is a kind of revenge Tragic Equation, where the female ends up banished, abandoned or dead, which brings the hero to his knees.
Hughes begins his thesis with the two poems,Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece.  Hughes feels that these two poems are the beginning of the tragic hero who features in the rest of Shakespeare’s works. These heroes, according to Hughes, are tortured by their blind lust, either unconsciously or consciously, and are really seeking a kind of divine love. He makes a good case for his thesis as he convincingly traces the love affairs from the bestial in Venus and Adonis, right through to The Tempest. Interestingly, the process begins with the lust of a woman, the Goddess Venus, who is blamed for lust in general. This lust is transferred, as it must be for the Tragic Equation, to the rapist Taquin. In the male, bestial lust quickly becomes violent. I think Hughes convincingly traces, through the works, the fate of love from its source in confused bestiality to the pursuit of a woman who ideally embodies divine love.
I think contemporary psychology theory agrees with him, and that at the mercy the natural surging of his hormones, the young man is in an unstable emotion state and can reject the object of his desire who is always a young virtuous woman. This is the woman who our tragic hero desperately wants, but can easily hate. Hughes quotes a number of tragic heroes as victims of this ‘irrational madness’, the foremost being Hamlet, and the most irrational being Leontes in A Winter’s Tale, but there are many instances of the hero abusing his most loved woman. Hughes thinks this is purely a psychobiological trait, mythologized through the centuries. He does not relate it to being an English subject in the reign of a powerful queen.
For all lovers of Shakespeare Hughes’s book is delightful reading except for the number of folkloric references which are confusing. Hughes desire is clear; to trace a path from bestial to divine love in the entire Shakespearean oeuvre and he begins this journey with the boar as symbolic of male desire. The book cover is a drawing of a boar. In Hughes’s Tragic Equation, the hero who chases the chaste woman, invariably comes to a sad end himself, and I find this supported by at least ten of the plays in the Shakespearean oeuvre. Hughes also insists that the plays portray a penitent hero who can transcend his madness and trade in his lust in order to reach a more spiritual love. Unfortunately, while this may be neat and psychologically sound, Hughes then goes on to confuse the boar with the Queen of Hell. This particular myth, or effigy I found difficult to accept since there’s only one character who could rightly be called that, Lady Macbeth. What is easier to accept is the raw youth at the mercy of his hormones in All’s Well That Ends Well, evolving into the wise old man, Prospero, at the end of the cycle who cares for his daughter so lovingly.
While agreeing in general with Hughes’s thesis, that the plays represent a growth towards spirituality, I think Hughes relies on psychology more than sociology or political impetus. Sociologically there is a very potent reason for the overbearing mother and her frustrated sexuality, namely, the oppression of women in the sixteenth century, especially aristocratic and landed-gentry women. They were inevitably bartered away and invariably ended up with an arranged and loveless marriage. Thus the problem of imposed ‘madness’ but Hughes does not credit this new interest in the relationship between men and women with the powerful rulers who are women. This very emphasis and criticism of male behaviour must have been inspired by the very powerful female monarchs of that era. There was the first ever queen of England, Queen Mary, a hated first English Queen, Mary Queen of Scots, who claimed to be queen of Scotland, England and France, and of course the omnipotent Elizabeth the First. Subjected to such powerful women must have been the source of much internal and external conflict. All three women must have ushered in a new sensibility, not necessarily in the portrayal of women but in the portrayal of men’s behaviour towards women who, for the first time had political clout. Hughes makes no reference to the possible influence of these monarchs. He also omits to note that these inner conflicts about the opposite sex, however common they are among the commoners and even aristocracy, are never described as the fatal flaw of the reigning monarch, or the  paternal Dukes that pepper the plays. Perhaps Elizabeth would have more than frowned on portraying royalty with this fatal flaw. The most insidious male monarch who subdues a woman is, of course, Richard the Third, who is deliberately being maligned. Prince Hamlet is a great example, of someone who cannot become a monarch after his ‘madness’. The Winter’s Tale proves to be the exception, but that is because he becomes a penitent and is forgiven by the statue of his victim wife. Towards the end of the cycle, King Lear’s aggression is relatively mild against Cordelia, and he too repents.
Hughes does, however, make some historical explanation for the sudden emergence of scholarship of such profound depth and meaning. He credits the conflict between the Papal Church, personified perhaps by the Virgin Mary, and the rapacious Henry VIII. Hughes neglects to mention the protestations of Luther which made the intelligentsia (not the monarchs) question the Divine Right of Kings. These are powerfully conflicting elements which reach right down through every strata of society, and were represented in the person of Elizabeth the First; a rebel female and ‘unnaturally’ a scholar, who used the divine right of kings to rule. Hughes does mention that Queen Elizabeth had a keen interest in what was being dramatised because she was aware of the support she needed and appreciated the theatre as an instrument of propaganda.  She headed an aristocratic class with leisure to reflect on the nature of women, and to believe that it was patriotic to do so. England was finally emerging from the brutality of the Roman Empire although English scholars had no desire to avoid the civilizing influence of Italian thought, language and painting. Dante and Boccaccio were influential. Elizabeth the First spoke Italian fluently and probably read Castiglione’s prescription for the perfect courtier and Machiavelli in the original. Even Mary Queen of Scots had her Florio.
When Hughes drew my attention to the Tragic Equation and even to his theories of psychobiology, it made me realize that the aristocratic, and characters who feature as leaders and celebrities in the plays, were probably always raised in dysfunctional family circumstances. Interestingly, they have this in common with the aristocrats of the day who supported the theatre and followed the Shakespearean oeuvre and argument on behalf of the conflicted tragic heroes. At the mercy of suppressed mothers, they must have felt like tragic heroes themselves.
Hughes does not need to mention the fact that Shakespeare is very popular today, but I think it is pertinent. Violence towards women is still with us and the reason why is still a subject of contention and endless theorizing. Jonathan Fast explores this violence in young males in his two books, Ceremonial Violence, A Psychological Explanation of School Shootings, and Beyond Bullying, Breaking the Cycle of Shame, Bullying and Violence.  Interestingly this shame is not racial, or even competitively nurtured, no, it is learned in the heart of the dysfunctional (to a nth degree) family. Apparently Jeffrey Dahmer’s mother made him eat all the food she cooked, rotten or not. .  Feminists may run from facts like these, by pointing out to the use and abuse of women which is responsible for such dysfunctional families. I agree with this position. Family dysfunction can easily be socially approved, such as in the suppression of women’s sexuality and ambition. I’m sure women’s liberation and the respect women are now acquiring in the public and private sector, will go a long way to reducing the effect of this trauma.
Hughes’s analysis of the tragic hero was long-winded but still left me wanting more, and a little sceptical of his need for formulas and theories. He focuses on the dramatic characters’ violence, rather than their passion for words and joy of life, notably absent from this didactical tome. But I want to thank Hughes for pointing out the ‘scurvy’ males in the Shakespearean oeuvre, and tracing the cycle of plays where the hero evolves towards some veneration, it not worship, of a divine being that is female in nature like the goddesses in The Tempest’s marriage ceremony.

Mosque of the Late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash in Dubai
• A contemporary place of worship quietly masterful in its use of form, materiality and controlled natural lighting to create a sense of calm and spiritual connection
• A pared down form that eschews traditional Islamic typology, with a design narrative to transition the worshipper from the outer everyday world to an inner spiritual experience
• One of the first mosques in the UAE to be designed by a female architect
Mosque of the Late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash News
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Dabbagh Architects lead by Principal Architect and Founder, Sumaya Dabbagh, completes the Mosque of the Late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash (Dubai, UAE), a contemporary place of worship that is quietly masterful in its use of form, materiality and controlled natural light to evoke a sense of calm and spiritual connection and transition the worshipper from outer material world to inner sense of being. The mosque is one of the first in the UAE to be designed by a female architect.
Sumaya is one of only a few Saudi female architects of her generation and amongst a handful of women architects leading their own practice in the Gulf region. With a reputation for crafting culturally relevant buildings in dialogue with their surroundings, she places emphasis on the intangible in architecture; seeking to create meaning and a sense of the poetic to form a connection with each building’s user.
Previous projects include Mleiha Archaeological Centre (2016), a curved sandstone structure that rises from the desert in the small town of Mleiha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project was awarded an Architecture MasterPrize (2020), amongst other award wins, as well as being nominated for the Aga Khan Awards (2018). Creating a transition from outer material world to inner sense of being
As a gift to the community and in honour of the late patriarch of the family, Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash, the Gargash family’s brief was to create a minimal contemporary mosque, a calm and spiritual space for prayer, for the community of the Al Quoz, the industrial heart of Dubai. Committed to supporting local industries and in keeping with the practice’s sustainable approach to design, Dabbagh Architects sourced materials from the mosque’s locality: stone from Oman; concrete, aluminium, cladding, joinery and ceramics from the UAE.
At the heart of the design approach is the enhancement of the act of worship and a transitional journey throughout the building so that the worshipper is ready for prayer and feels a sense of intimacy with the sacred.
“Creating a space of worship was a very particular design challenge. Prayer is a devotional act. It requires the worshipper to be totally present. With all the distractions in our modern busy lives it can be challenging to quieten the mind and find an inner calm to allow for full immersion into prayer,” says Sumaya. “Through the design, a series of spaces are created that allow the worshipper to transition from the busy outer world and prepare for an inner experience.”
Light as a tool to create a connection with the divine
Natural light is used as a tool to enhance a feeling of spirituality, the connection between the earthly and the divine, and to mark the worshipper’s journey through the building. Scale also plays a role in creating this sense of sacredness.
Starting at the mosque’s outdoor entrance, perforated shading creates a threshold of perforated light leading the worshipper to the ablution area where physical cleansing invites the clearing of the mind and preparation for prayer. The route continues through to a lobby space where further shedding of the material world takes place through the act of removing one’s shoes.
Once inside the prayer hall, the visitor further transitions to a contained space where reading from the Quran may take place before prayer. All the while, the quality of light from one space to another changes to enhance the preparation process, so that when the worshipper finally enters the main hall, they are ready for prayer.
“Muslim prayer is performed throughout the day at prescribed timings: at dawn, midday, afternoon, sunset and at night. This discipline creates a human connection with the natural day and night rhythm. The experience created through the design of the mosque seeks to enhance this connection through a controlled introduction of natural lighting,” explains Sumaya.
This is done in three ways: vertically, via the perforated dome to enhance the spiritual connection to the heavens, the shafts of light from the narrow openings on the sides further create a sense of illumination from the divine; indirectly, behind the Mihrab to highlight the point of focus in the prayer hall facing the direction of prayer; and, through a play of light from a series of small openings in the façade that follows the same decorative patterns of the interior.
Pared down form eschews traditional architectural typology
Dabbagh Architects sought to avoid multiple blocks, simplifying the traditional typology of the Islamic form and stripping it away to its essence. In the process of design development, the main building volume was separated into two: firstly, the prayer block containing the male and female prayer areas, and secondly the service block where the ablution facilities and residence for the Imam (the leader of prayer) and Moazen (caller of prayer) are found.
As a result of this division, a courtyard is formed which has a sculptural canopy reaching out to reconnect the two volumes together. With its two arms almost touching, the canopy gives a sense of separation of the functional and the more scared: the practicality of the ablution ritual and the spirituality of prayer. In further contrast to traditional mosque architecture, the minaret is designed as a separate volume.
A reinterpretation of Islamic geometry and metaphorically protective calligraphy The use of pattern and materiality in this project enhances the user’s experience as they journey from the outside into to the courtyard and enter the building. Throughout the building is a triangular pattern, a reference to traditional Islamic geometry but reinterpreted in a deconstructed contemporary language.
The exterior paneling uses this triangulated pattern in recessed and perforated elements, which gives the building’s skin a dynamic appearance. Internally, these perforations scatter natural light into the areas of worship with great control and care to illuminate the key spaces and create a calm atmosphere and sense of connection to the divine, as well as helping to cool the mosque’s interior.
The double skin dome also allows natural light to enter, filtering it through the internal decorative skin, which incorporates the same triangulated pattern as the rest of the building. This filtered light creates a soft naturally-lit prayer space tailoring to the introspective mind during prayer. The reinterpreted Islamic patterns and triangulated geometry harmonize throughout the interior as lines intersecting across walls, carpets and light fittings.
Calligraphy plays an important part in the overall design. A Surah (verse from the Quran) wraps around the prayer hall externally to create a metaphoric protective band signaling the spiritual nature of the space upon arrival and instilling a sacred energy throughout the building. The verse, “The Most Merciful”, is composed entirely in saj’, the rhyming, accent-based prose characteristic of early Arabic poetry and references the sun, the moon, the stars and heavens and many other creations.
“At the end of each project my hope is that the building will evoke the feelings and emotions that were envisioned at the outset. There is a defining, magical moment when the building is born and claims a life of its own. For this, my first mosque, that moment was particularly moving. Sedona Vortex - Fact Or New Age Woo-Woo?
Sedona, Arizona is living with electricity also it has 15 20 vitality vortex internet sites located in just a 15 20 mile radius. Here's the thing though, even if you're right about what they might be doing and having Rey still be a Skywalker yet it somehow can't be revealed too soon (though how on Earth would the end of the 2nd part if a 3 part film be too soon) in order for her to stand on her own merits, it was so poorly executed. Rey's character I feel was actually harmed by her characterization in TLJ. She became a supporting character in her own arc, with two men taking center stage. Tbat damage harms the saga.
I’ll answer this personally: As a female Star Wars fan (as are most of the Council members), you’ll get no disagreements from me here about the handling of Rey in TLJ. I feel that her sidelining in this movie in favor of the male characters around her will always stand as a weak point in the saga. Though I feel that the intention of these choices was ultimately in service of giving her greater independence and significance, LFL was extremely short-sighted in thinking that, without knowing that her connection to the Skywalker family is more than just being a messenger and good listener, this wouldn’t have negative effects for the audience.
On a note of optimism–although I was initially pulling for Rey to be revealed as a Skywalker in this film, here is why I think the decision to delay the reveal will  ultimately serve her character better. Were Rey to discover her parentage in the second chapter of the trilogy, her story would essentially be a lower-stakes version of her father’s. She would have to deal with the dark and dysfunctional past of her family…but she would also be happy just to find them at all. She would have to face down a family member…but it would be her cousin, not the father she’d spent her life idolizing. And we’d all know how the story would go–she’d show compassion to her relative, turn him back to the light, etc. etc., roll credits. In other words, Rey would be filling and enacting a role, rather than going on a personal journey. Would that have still been moving and compelling for the trilogy? Sure, but it would not have done a lot to make Rey’s story unique.
Instead, Rey spends TLJ (in our read of the film) hoping that Luke is her father, and thinking that by finding this out, she will be automatically given a “place in the story” and therefore permission to be the hero she is capable of being. What Luke’s rejection, and the fakeout reveal, do for Rey is to force her to realize that her claim to heroism lies in her own courage, strength, and kindness, not in any external factors that make her more “fit” for the role. Where Anakin’s story was about grappling with inner darkness, and Luke’s story was about coming to terms with his family, Rey’s story is about learning she can’t wait for anyone else to tell her it’s her time to be a hero. Her lineage is the source of her gifts with the Force, but her heroism comes solely from her. She would be worthy of taking on Kylo Ren whether she was the daughter of a galactic legend or the daughter of a junk dealer.
“So why can’t she just be a nobody?” cry the internet masses. Well, there are still other themes in the saga to consider–themes of family, of legacy, of fatherhood, and so on–that require Rey to be Luke’s daughter. But these can still coexist with a story arc for Rey that’s about claiming her identity regardless of where she came from. Finding out she’s a Skywalker, then, becomes her reward at the end, rather than a defining motivation throughout the story.
I hope this provides an alternate perspective on LFL’s choices for Rey. Obviously, I wish as much as you do that they’d handled her better in this movie, but I still believe their intention is to give Rey a satisfying character arc that sets her apart from either of the Skywalker protagonists who came before her. Here’s hoping they stick the landing.
