What happens when you find out that Jade used to have piercings before he came into NRC with you?

(yes this is to feed myself as well tskr Yana-sensei for giving us the idea of Jade with piercings...)

reader is a sophomore in this fic! same year as the twins!

You were hanging around at Mostro Lounge, your hands busy stirring the drink that you had ordered for yourself while you studied for the upcoming exams. You also had earphones in while you worked, making sure no one was around to bother. Although, that didn’t stop Floyd barreling in and calling out to you. ”Koi-chan~!”

You jumped from the shock and comically threw your pen up in the moment, stumbling over the table to catch it. “F-Floyd! At least give me a heads up before running towards me like that..!” Floyd giggles from the reaction, bending down to rest his arm on the table. He was still in his basketball uniform- his hair strewn wildly across his head and face. 

“Nee~ Umihebi-kun and Kani-chan were talking about their childhood photos earlier! They showed photos of when they were a tiiiny little fishie~” Floyd says, grinning. “Does Koi-chan have any pictures too?”

“Well that’s random..? None that I’ll show you for free tho!” you spat, crossing your arms. “I’ll show you mine and Jade’s! He won’t know~”

Hearing the name of the other eel, you can’t help but be intrigued. “Well, I guess two of you against one is good enough...” You took out your phone from your pocket, scrolling down the gallery to find any old pictures you could use. “Oh god, this is an embarrassing picture..”

In the picture is you at 4-year old, running around the beachside chasing a lost butterfly. Your hair was blown around by the wind while you had the biggest grin plastered on your face, the biggest Floyd’s ever seen. 

“Hee, so Koi-chan can actually smile!”

“Oh shut it! Just because I don’t smile as much nowadays doesn’t mean I can’t!” You yell back, pouting at Floyd. “That’s a picture of me from when I was four. I think I have another one…” You pull up another picture, this time you were much older and in your junior high’s uniform. “This is… 4 years ago?” Floyd cooed at the sight. “D’aww, Koi-chan’s so tiny back then!”

“Hey, hold up your end of the bargain! Where’s your picture?” Floyd smirked and held up his phone, showing a picture of him in junior high holding onto what you assume would be one of Azul’s tentacles. 

“So cute…! You and Jade used to look like this?? Adorable!!” 

“Ah, but we don’t always look like each other. We had a phase~ We tried changing up our styles to see what fits~ Jade looks way different that he does now!”

“He does? I mean, how would it be so different?”

“Nn? You never knew?”

“Knew what?” You asked, leaning on the table and taking a sip from the drink.

“That Jade used to have a shit ton of piercings?”

You outright choked on your beverage, gripping the edge of the table. “He WHAT?!”

Floyd laughs, throwing himself on the sofa while cackling. “Yeah! It was easier to tell us apart~ He used to style his hair backwards and his ears were chock full of piercings!” 

You were still sputtering in disbelief. “Ain’t no way. *That* Jade?! The one who always looks so prim and proper?!”

“Yeah~ I got pics, wanna see~?”

Curiosity kills the cat, so to speak. As soon as Floyd pulls up a picture of his twin in his merform, his hair slicked back messily and a bunch of piercings on his left ear alongside the sturgeon scale earring he still dons, you could feel your soul leave your body. Not just that, Jade had stuck out his tongue showcasing the silver piercing on the flesh, along with the one on his bottom lip. 

“W-Wh- Hhuh-?! Aaa.. ?! That’s Jade?!”

“In the flesh.”

The silver and blacks of the metal seemingly made his teal hair pop out more. The countless studs on the inner side of his ear and above his eyebrow were shining under the lighting, and you could identify other types of piercings like a helix and an industrial piercing on the top of his ear. Oddly, it also made the fins on the side of his head look much more ethereal. Not only that, he had an undercut instead of his current hairstyle. Floyd says they were in the phase of trying out hairstyles, though.

It was almost as if something unlocked within you, your cheeks heating up as you stared at the picture with a hand over your mouth.

“Shit, he’s kinda hot.” Floyd laughs.

But what's Mostro Lounge without Jade being around to serve? The noises from your table has gathered his attention, watching intently from afar while you chat animatedly with his twin. There's something about the volume of your voices that echoes through the empty lounge, as Jade picks up the words "piercings" and his name being mentioned.

"My, I don't really take well for people who talk about me behind my back." Jade approached the table, a hand on his chest as he fake sniffles.

"Urk- Jade! H-hey there...!" You greet, flailing your arms around. "Hey Jade~ I was just showing Koi-chan our old pics! See?" Floyd took your phone from the table, showing Jade your old pictures as well. "Fufu, how adorable. Which picture of us did you show her, Floyd?"

"The one where we played tag with Azul~ Oh but I showed her a picture of you with your old piercings!"

You held out Floyd's phone towards Jade, and he gracefully picks it up and examines the picture. "Ah, this one. I didn't want to tell anyone here about the piercings, but... I do miss having them around."

Jade leans down, and you could see a few faint scars where his piercings would have been in the past.

"Dont'cha still have them somewhere in our room?"

"I think so. I'll look into it when I have the time, maybe."

You had found yourself thinking and imagining the sight of Jade with his piercings more and more ever since that day. You daydreamed about it, drew sketches, even caught yourself staring at the eel-mer sometimes.

Even with all that, you truly didn't imagine to see a huge crowd in front of Mostro Lounge today waiting for said man.

"Eh? What's with the long line?"

"Haven't you heard? They said their vice-housewarden suddenly came into class with a totally different look!"

"Dude, I wanna see how he looks!"

That has gotten you more confused than anything. It wasn't until the crowd started going crazy and bumping against each other that you realize the person in question walking in, a hand reaching up to take off his hat.

"J-Jade?!"

"Oya, how nice for you to have come again."

You almost rolled your eyes, since you were practically a regular there. But you couldn't bring yourself to answer or get a witty remark out, with how Jade looked at you smugly.

His hair was partly slicked back, leaving his bangs naturally on the left side, giving him a slightly mature yet playful aura. On his left ear, along with the sturgeon scale earring, was a bunch of his old piercings relocated back onto his ear. There were a few additions you never saw on the old picture though- like the pair of silver studs attached to a line of chain that went from on top of his ear down to the lobe. The lip piercing was also back on the left side of his lips, even though it was just a clip-on.

"H...Holy shit."

"I assume you like my new look, yes?" He smirked, putting his hat back on his head.

You didn't even have to reply, your head just automatically nodded as you stared at his new look.

(somehow, his lips just looked even more kissable.)

It felt unreal for you as you sat down in the lounge, watching him work. Maybe ogling is the better word, seeing how you couldn't take your eyes off the man. You had a hand over your mouth as well, trying to hide the pink tint in your face.

Floyd notices and smirks, leaning on the side of your table after delivering a few drinks to a nearby table.

"So? What'cha think?"

"He's hotter in person."

Jade overheard the conversation while serving another table, and had to stop a sheepish laugh from coming out.

"Pfft- fufu, perhaps I should dress up like this more often."

A Look Into the Past (Pt. 2)

After finding out that Jade had pulled out all his past piercings and put them back on, you just can't seem to get enough of it. Jade, on the other hand, is really enjoying your attention on him.

One thing you told yourself after the encounter with Jade yesterday was, "It was a once in a lifetime sight." You really wished you sneaked in a photo or two, perhaps that would help your currently jumpy heart calm down a little bit more? "...Nah," you said, rolling around on your bed. Even if it was only yesterday evening, you should just count your blessings and be grateful you bore witness to it, right?

Oh boy, were you wrong.

You didn't expect to see Jade still wearing his piercings in class. On one hand, it's a much less amount than what he wore yesterday since he still needed to look proper for school, but it definitely didn't help your case as you find yourself needlessly staring at the double helix snugly on top of his right ear and another two on his left ear's upper lobe, right beside his sturgeon scale earring.

He's received few asks and light warnings from the professors, especially Trein, but the rest seem to agree that he's okay wearing it as long as it's nothing too striking. His hair was back to it's usual neatly combed style too, but you reaffirm to yourself that the piercings really made his hair color pop even more, especially the black strand on his left. You wonder how he managed to act like a complete gentleman while still looking like the hottest guy in the universe in your opinion.

"Heading to class?" "Y-Yeah, I am." (You cursed yourself for the slight hitch in your voice.) "Would you let me join you for the walk, then? I believe my class is towards the same direction you're going to." "Sounds great!"

The two of you walked between the empty hallways, with most of the student body spending their break outside or at the cafeteria. You talked about mundane things, like classes or the weather- but it seems like Jade is purposely steering the conversation so that you'd bring up his piercings. What can I say, he could be quite the huge tease if he knew which buttons to press to gauge a reaction out of you.

You were reminded of your conversation with Floyd before you left the lounge yesterday. "Hee, if you're really interested in him then why not try to pull some moves~?" "No way! I'm not brave enough, you know that Floyd." The eel-mer pouts, humming to himself and thinking. "Then what if I tell Jade to pull a move on you~?"

Your hand shot up to grab on Floyd's sleeve, giving him the most menacing glare you could put out. (It probably looked cute on his end though.) "Floyd. Don't you dare pull any fishy stuff."

"Eeh... Boring. Imma go back to bothering Azul instead." He said with a sinister smirk, walking away from you.

Well, casually chatting doesn't count as pulling a move, does it? "Speaking of," you start. "Did the professors really not care about them? I mean, I think I've seen a few people getting reprimanded for extra accessories." "Ah, Professor Trein did express a little bit of dislike, but he said it wasn't too distracting. Though, Professor Crewel on the other hand started giving me fashion tips, fufu."

You laugh at the little fact. "Yep, that's Crewel alright. Maybe you can show me his fashion tips when we're free?"

A smirk grew on Jade's face. "Oh? Is this your way of asking me out?" "N-No! I'm just curious, okay?!" You half-yelled, hitting his arm with as much power you could exert. (Not much, since Jade didn't even bother to dodge or look hurt.) You threw a couple of jabs at him, and Jade was more than happy to reply with his witty remarks.

Jade glances around the corridor. They were currently on the third floor of the school building, with most of it being empty and a slight updraft could be felt.

"Are you not interested on trying to touch them though? I've seen a lot of people try to get a closer look." He said, a sly smile on his lips. "Eh? Can I?" You ask innocently, perhaps too innocently for Jade. The male nods, slightly leaning into you to let you have a closer look.

"They're pretty.." You say, holding the metal on his left ear. You cupped his earring inside your palm to make sure it doesn't accidentally get pulled, lightly caressing the pierced flesh. Jade leans into your touch, a slight fondness in his eyes as you focus fully on the feeling of his accessories in your hands until you felt soft lips pressing onto your own.

!! "E.. Eh...?"

Your hands gently pull away from his earring, and your eyes met with his pair of heterochromic ones. His lips were mere centimeters away from yours, a small smirk showing his teeth forming on his face. The realization dawns on you as your realize he just kissed your lips while you were distracted.

"HE KISSED ME?!" You freak out internally, your entire face turning a dark shade of red that could rival Heartslabyul's roses. You knew Jade was eating up your reaction- with the most smug expression on, of course.

"Oh my, excuse me. Did you not want that?" He asked, lightly holding your chin between his fingers. “I feel a slight obligation to act more boldly in this getup.” The fact that he could pull such moves so casually is messing with your head as you struggle to give an answer. Your free hand trails over to his tie and you pull him back down towards your lips, letting him properly slot his lips on yours.

Jade gladly kisses back and chuckles as he pulls away, letting you go and straightening himself up before continuing the walk towards your classrooms as if nothing had happened with a satisfied smile on his face. You stood stunned for a few seconds and shaking it off before chasing after him, stumbling over your own feet.

"H-HEY! JADE, THAT'S NOT FAIR!!"

"U-Um, so that's what you called me out for?" "Yes, exactly."

When Jade had contacted you saying that there was a "disaster", you certainly didn't expect the disaster to be the eel-mer's own wardrobe. You were surprised at the amount of clothes he had, but a few of them are quite... distasteful, to say the least.

When Jade wore his ear piercings to school the other time, he was stopped by none other but Professor Crewel and was given an earful about how to dress and act when wearing such flashy accessories. Granted, they were at school so it can't be helped, but Crewel made sure to make Jade remember his fashion tips for days off like today.

"Did Floyd get you this?" You hold up a purple shirt with a drawing of an eel, and big blocky text saying "Mentally Eel". You grimaced at how tacky the shirt was. "Ah, yes he did. Floyd has the habit of collecting anything eel-related in the surface world, you see."

You had to stifle a laugh at the thought. "Ah, that's where he got those eel keychains."

You rummaged through Jade's wardrobe (with permission, of course) and pulled out most of his clothes, gently putting them down and organizing them by type. There were a few normal button-up shirts, a pair of pajamas, Jade's hiking clothes and equipment, and let's not forget the winter clothes he wore on his trip to Harveston. (You wonder why he wore shorts AND leggings with his hiking wear, but you're not gonna question it.)

"What did Crewel say about them anyway? And uh, why me out of all people? I'm pretty sure someone like Vil or Cater could give you much better insight?" You ask. Jade tilts his head, pondering for a second. "Why, I suppose it's because you were the first person to pop up in my mind. I couldn't hope to bother our seniors, after all. Besides, your sense of fashion is quite good."

Bullshit reasoning. Or so you say, but you feel your ears heat up from the thought of Jade thinking of you. "Oh. I-I see." Jade wasn't lying when he said you had a good sense of fashion though, your choice of outfits on days off were always endearing to him. You were wearing a blouse paired with black overalls today, which looked both comfortable and fashionable at the same time.

"What did Crewel say?" "Hm... He said that a relaxed, mature look would suit for a lesser amount of accessories, to put it simply. Either that, or something simpler to accentuate the accessories if we were to wear more amounts."

Perhaps it's time for a little fashion show, then?

You quickly look around and pull out a few pieces of clothing- A pair of white pants and bright blue and yellow short sleeved shirt, giving off a bit of a tropical vibe. Jade took the clothes gratefully, putting them on the bed for him to change into.

"Oh? Are you perhaps going to watch me change, or~?" "I-I'M NOT! I'M LOOKING AWAY!!!" Your face shone red, quickly turning around to look at the door instead. Jade chuckled quietly, unbuttoning his shirt and taking them off. You can clearly hear the sound of him unzipping his pants as well, making you wipe your sweat off your forehead. (there's the urge to peek, but you better not.)

"Alright, I've finished changing. What do you think?"

You nervously turn around, and closely examined Jade in your chosen clothes. "It looks pretty good! I think a bit of a messier look would look nice with lots of accessories on your ears, like if you unbuttoned a few from the top of your shirt."

Jade complies, messing up his hair slightly and unbuttoning his shirt to reveal his collarbone, and you feel yourself regretting your words.

"I quite agree. The colors of the shirt pop with the addition of the white pants, and the silvers of the metal can be clearly seen."

"A-Ah, yeah!" (remember to look respectfully, dear) "Can you lean down for a sec?" Jade kneels down to your level sitting on the floor, and you take out a few of his accessories from the little wooden box he kept neatly inside his wardrobe. You picked up a few unused piercings and tried mixing and matching them on his ears, laughing when Jade comments your fussing over his ears tickles quite a bit.

"But it's not really your style, honestly... A flashy look like this kinda fits Floyd more." You comment, but deep down you think it wasn't a bad change of pace to see Jade in something other than buttoned-up shirts and suits. Turning back to the clothes pile, you pick out another set of clothes- this time, it was a comfy white turtleneck with black dress pants. You also found a brown trench coat in the depths of his wardrobe, which Jade said his parents' acquaintances gifted him for his birthday and he didn't know how to style it.

You looked back to the door once again as he changes out of the clothes, putting the new set on quickly and gracefully. "Oh, this definitely feels much more my style."

You turned around to see for yourself, and your eyes shone excitedly seeing him in the new getup. "Oh! Definitely!!" You cheered, giggling while at it. "You surprisingly suit the more mature-but-comfortable look, Jade." The eel-mer chuckles, sitting back down on the floor. "I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. What about the accessory choices, then?"

"Hmm... Crewel said that less is better in this getup, so just a little..." Picking up a few ring shaped ones, you carefully put a few piercings on Jade's ears- a simple look, consisting of the double helix on top of his ears and a couple of silver studs along his lobes.

"There! Well it isn't exactly a little either, but..."

Jade looked at the mirror in his room, a satisfied smile on his face. A smile that is neither shady, plotting, or emotionless- a genuinely happy smile. "My my, I was correct in assuming you had good taste in fashion. I'm rather confident in this look, actually. It's comfortable enough for me to move in, and yet still maintaining the fashionable aura from the coat."

You had a grin on your face, proud of your handiwork. "All thanks to you being a good model! And for having a variety of clothes I can choose from, haha."

You had quickly put the rest of his clothes back into his wardrobe after making a few other suggestions, and dusted yourself off as you stood up. "I should probably get going now, I wouldn't want to invade for too long." You say, stretching your arms and getting ready to get back to your dorm. You open the door, stepping out from his neat room.

"Ah, before that." Jade called out, following you outside. He quickly (and rather smoothly) took your hand in his, closing and locking up his room. "Since we're already in decent clothes, what do you say I take you on a small trip around Sage's Island? Perhaps we can stop by and grab some food. My treat of course, after you've oh-so graciously helped me."

Your cheeks heat up, and you feel your gaze lowering to stare at the floor instead of the man in front of you.

"...Is this your way of asking me out?" "Perhaps. Do you accept?"

You couldn't bring yourself to decline his offer. (Your empty stomach also couldn't.)

"S-sure then. I'd love to, Jade."

"Splendid. It's a date, then."
