author’s note: a little preview of what’ll soon be one of my first fic series!! i hope you guys like it! :3 this has been in the works for a few weeks (read: months) now, and i’m really proud of how it’s been coming out so far! i would like to preface this though by saying that i’m still working on my writing style and figuring out what does and doesn’t work for me, so i’d like to apologize in advance if any parts of this seem messy, unorganized, or if it doesn’t flow properly. truly i’m trying my best >_< either way though, i’m open to requests and friendly constructive criticism, even more so because this is still a work in progress! thank you!! ♡

YOU jolt awake, greeted by the sensation of a wet tongue on your cheek—a rather rude awakening courtesy of whom you can only guess is your overenthusiastic canine companion. Gods, he nearly sent you propelling out of bed! Before you can unleash a string of expletives however, the soothing aroma of burning incense wafts through the air, calming your frayed nerves and reminding you that, yes, you are still alive and kicking.

Peering down, you acknowledged the culprit behind your rude awakening—Yuyu, your faithful golden retriever, grinning up at you as if he’d just performed the greatest trick in the world.

“Yuyu, you damn mutt,” you mutter, shooting a half-hearted glare at the grinning golden retriever perched at the edge of your bed. “It wouldn’t have killed you to let me sleep in a little longer, would it? Please just one late morning..”

Yuyu responds with an eager bark, tail wagging so vigorously it’s a wonder he doesn’t spin off into orbit. You can’t help but roll your eyes at his boundless energy, the absurdity of the situation not lost on you.

With a sigh, you begrudgingly haul yourself out of bed, resigning yourself to the fact that resistance is futile when faced with Yuyu and his relentless wake-up calls. Today, however, is no ordinary day—it's the beginning of your first Auricroot harvest, and you’ve got a forest to conquer. Well- a backyard actually, but the finer details can wait.

As far as you were concerned, today marked the beginning of your first Auricroot harvest of the season, a momentous occasion that promised you both prosperity and abundance. Rare medicinal herbs like that were highly sought after in the city, and the hefty price they fetched made the effort of cultivation well worth it.

Glancing at the calendar on the wall, you confirmed the date with a nod. Yes, today was the day!

“Alright, Yuyu, let’s make like a tree and leaf,” you quip, earning yourself a bemused tilt of the head from your canine companion. “Get it? Leaf? Like, we’re going to harvest herbs? Never mind.”

As you make your way downstairs, Yuyu follows close behind, his tail still wagging with enough force to power a small village. In the bathroom, you quickly go through the motions of your morning routine, the anticipation of the day’s tasks adding an extra spring to your step.

Emerging from the bathroom, you descended the stairs, Yuyu bounding ahead with unbridled enthusiasm. And as you opened the front door, you were nearly bowled over as your pup darted outside, a blur of fur and joy as he chased after a particularly elusive butterfly with the determination of a seasoned hunter.

“Ah yes, the thrill of the chase,” you muse, shaking your head in amusement. “Nothing like a little butterfly brouhaha to kickstart the day, huh?”

Chuckling at his antics, you stepped outside, the crisp air of Feywood Fen invigorating your senses. Today was indeed a big day, and you were ready to seize it with both hands. Yup, all 10 fingers.

With purposeful strides, you navigate through the familiar paths of your home, the scent of earth and magic mingling in the air as you make your way to the back shed. Retrieving two weathered fruit crates, their wood worn smooth from years of use, well-worn appearance a testament to the countless harvests they've witnessed over the years.

"Ah, my faithful crates," you muse, giving them a fond pat before setting them down amidst the verdant landscape that surrounds your home. "Ready for another adventure, old friends?"

With practiced precision, you begin the delicate task of harvesting the Auricroots, each plant carefully uprooted and placed into the waiting crates. As you work, the rhythmic sounds of nature surround you—the rustle of leaves, the hum of insects, and the gentle breeze that whispers through the trees.

Amidst the tranquil scene, you're joined by a familiar presence—Yuyu, his furry form weaving through the fields with the grace of a dancer. Taking his place by your side, he settles down with what you could only guess was a contented sigh, a tiny orange butterfly perched delicately on his nose.

"Well, well, look who's making friends," you remark with a smile, reaching out to gently stroke the outermost part of the butterfly's delicate wings. It was warm to the touch, a gift of nature indeed. "Hope your new buddy isn't too much of a handful, Yuyu."

Yuyu shakes his head, the butterfly remaining perched perfectly still as if enjoying the ride. Instead, it unfurls its wings in a slow, graceful dance, revealing the intricate patterns that adorn its delicate form—a masterpiece of nature's design.

"Ah, Yuyu, you've struck gold," you declare, a hint of pride in your voice as you admire the delicate creature perched on his nose.

In a forest where reality often danced on the edge of illusion, Yuyu's knack for uncovering hidden treasures was nothing short of extraordinary. For outsiders, the enchanted woods of Feywood Fen could be a minefield of surprises—a tree with leaves of fiery crimson that singed the unwary, a harmless-looking butterfly that crackled with electric energy, a cat whose hypnotic mews wordlessly beckons you closer, or a seemingly ordinary stray dog that greeted you with a wag of his tail and a ‘hello.’ But for you, a seasoned witch with a penchant for the peculiar, such oddities were merely par for the course.

"Mmh... a Phoenix Fritillary," you muse, nodding in approval at the elegant creature before you. "Truly a sight to behold, and a vital pollinator in our little corner of the forest. Well done, Yuyu! You’re quite the social butterfly, aren't you?" you remark, unable to resist a pun even in the midst of a bustling harvest. "But don't worry sweets, I promise not to steal your thunder." Yuyu offers a playful wag of his tail in response, the butterfly mirroring his movements with a delicate flutter of its wings.

“Now, if you'll excuse me, my love, I have a harvest to attend to. You and your little friend can enjoy your moment in the spotlight."

With a wag of his tail and a happy little yip, Yuyu bounds off into the fields, the butterfly fluttering along in tow. And as you return your focus to the task at hand, a smile plays at the corners of your lips, grateful for the wonders that await in the enchanted forest you call home.

As you continue your work, the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant hum of wildlife provide a soothing backdrop to your efforts. Each plant you pluck from the delicate earth feels like a small victory, a testament to the magic that thrives within these ancient woods.

Lost in the rhythm of the harvest, you're nearly startled from your reverie by the sudden sound of approaching footsteps. Glancing up, you're met with the sight of a familiar figure emerging from the trees—a young man with a warm glint in his eyes and a playful smirk tugging at his lips.

"Ah, there you are," he says, his voice carrying on the breeze like a whisper of magic. "I thought I might still find you here, surrounded by your beloved blooms."

You can't help but smile at the sight of him, a warmth spreading through your chest at the sight of his familiar face. "Yunho, what are you doing here? I thought you were playing with the butterflies?" you ask, setting aside your work to greet him properly.

Yunho shrugs nonchalantly, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "The poor thing got tuckered out so I gave it a flower to rest on. In the meantime, I just thought I'd pay another visit to my favorite witch in all the lands," he replies, his tone teasing yet affectionate. You had to fight the urge to roll your eyes. Flattery would get him nowhere (it got him everywhere). "And perhaps lend a hand with the harvest, if you'll have me. You’ve been here for hours, you know."

You couldn’t help but giggle at his offer, touched by his willingness to help. "Well, who am I to turn down an extra pair of hands?" you say, gesturing for him to join you. "But fair warning, some of the plants are still... grounded."

Yunho groaned, shaking his head and rubbing his temple. "Good god, your puns suck," he sighs, stepping forward to join you in the fields regardless. "I’d rather be sentenced for treason than be subjected to this torture."

“Please,” you laughed, meeting his eyes with a silly little grin. “They aren’t that bad! You know what is bad though?”

“What?” The look in his eyes was so innocent you almost regretted making the joke. Almost.

“The root of all evil.”

“Stop it.”

“I can’t, it’s rooted in who I am, you know.”

“Seriously? Two for two?”

“It was actually three Yunho, you know?”

“I’m going home.”

“I would like to apologize.”

Together, you and Yunho set to work, the air filled with laughter and the sweet scent of flowers as you gather the day's bounty. In moments like these, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the sheer warmth of him, you can't help but feel grateful for the life that binds you to this enchanted forest—to your own corner of paradise. You are, and would continue to be, forever grateful.

The remainder of your day passed by in a whirlwind of activity. After you finished packing your crates and tending to Yunho, who had momentarily returned to his dog form to retrieve his fluttering companion, you found yourself engaged in a lighthearted debate with him back in his human guise. The topic? Whether or not he could accompany you into town in his previous state. You argued that the townsfolk wouldn't take kindly to a "stray untamed dog" roaming about, much to his chagrin. Of course, it was a moot point in the end—he simply transformed into a crow and followed you from above.

Your visit to your family was brief but heartfelt, as you dropped off their goods and caught up on the latest news. Upon returning home, you set about planting the next batch of seeds in the freshly emptied spots left by your Auricroot harvest. Yunho, ever eager to assist, insisted on lending a hand—or rather, a beak—diligently making holes by repeatedly slamming his head into the soil.

With the day's tasks finally complete, you retreated indoors and set about preparing a delicious dinner for two. The aroma of your cooking filled the air, mingling with the lingering scent of incense and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Reflecting on the whirlwind of events that had unfolded, you couldn't help but marvel at the twists and turns that filled your days in the enchanted forest. It had been quite an eventful day—and as you laid down exhausted in your bed, tucked firmly underneath your covers you were almost thankful it was over. Ah yes, today was quite the day indeed.

The next day began much like the one before it, with you jolting awake to a sudden disturbance. However, instead of the familiar sensation of a wet tongue on your face, you were greeted by the unsettling rumble of the ground shaking beneath you.

I was wondering if you had any tips on brainstorming for stories or plots?? I already have my characters in mind and have worked out the little details, and I have *parts* of the story in mind, but I don't really have a storyline or plot.

hi again!! you’re not sending too much at all—and i’m so excited you’re diving into brainstorming for your story; that’s such an exciting stage.

for plotting, here are a few tips that might help:

1. start with the big picture: tink about what your story is about at its core. once you have a theme or central idea, it’s easier to map out the story around it.

2. ask questions about your characters: since you’ve already fleshed out your characters (amazing!!)

3. use a "what if?" approach: start throwing ideas around with questions like, “what if this happened?” or “what if they made this choice instead?” it’s a fun way to explore different possibilities and build your plot organically.

4. let yourself brainstorm freely: don’t worry about getting everything perfect right away. jot down messy ideas, scenes, or even create random dialogue—sometimes, the best ideas come when you’re just playing around with the story.

I'm a-okay with humanoids, half-animals (like human/humanoid-animal hybrids), and anthropomorphic beings (eg. Koh from Avatar; no physical humanlike body but humanlike behavior).
