“Hey baby!” Neil called to you to you from across the small video store. He was re-shelving this weeks returned videos, and was currently putting tapes back in the surprisingly popular ‘vampire-erotica’ section.

“Mhm?” You turn around to look at him from the beat-up green couch towards the front of the store.

“Since it’s been a slow night at the shop, how do you feel about closing up early and heading back to my place for a movie night?” He suggested with a grin on his face. “Your choice?” He offered. You returned his grin excitedly.

“Yeah! That sounds great Neil! Let me close the register while you finish restocking and then we can head out.” You tell him, hopping up from the couch to lock the door and flip the sign hanging on the glass to ‘closed’.

“Oh and don’t forget to close the blinds!” Neil called to you again. You quickly pulled down the blinds and curtains from the top of the front windows, and then walk behind the counter and begin to work on counting up all of that days earnings.

Neil owned the store, Gumshoe video, and did most of the work, but he payed you and his buddies, Jonathan and Lucien, to help out and keep him company.

You quickly counted up the small bit of profit you had accumulated, added up the tips, and closed the register for the day. Neil walked over and slid into a stool on the opposite side of the front counter. You followed his eyes as he relaxed his arm onto the cold wood, and leaned his cheek onto his fist. Once he was comfortable, he met your gaze and gave you a goofy smile.

“Hey pretty girl.” He cooed softly, his goofy smile turning into a sappy grin.

“Hey Neil” You replied, giving him a small giggle in response, your cheeks turning pink at the praise.

“Whacha thinkin?” He lifted his head off of his fist and reached across the counter to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear. He pulled his hand back and placed the palm flat on the wooden surface.

“Hm?” You cocked your head slightly to the side.

“You ready to head back to my place now?” He asked, subtly reminding you of your plans. He smiled a little at your turned head. “For movie night?”

“Oh right” you laughed. “Let me just grab my bag- be right back!” You run to the back room of the shop where you melt most of your stuff during your shifts. You quickly snagged the handles of a black tote bag adorned with tens of hundreds of little pins, all with pictures of bands or movies on them. You ran back to Neil, slipping your tote up your right arm around your shoulder.

“Okay” you smiled. “I’m ready”

Neil lived in the apartment above Gumshoe, so the walk was fairly quick, but it did mean walking to the alley behind the store and climbing a few flights of stairs.

Once you had both managed to get up to his apartment and safely inside, you set your bag down on his small dining room table and then flopped down on the couch. Even on slow days at work, you still ended up exhausted once you were able to relax.

You could hear Neil setting down his keys and shuffling about his apartment behind you. It was a very open space, so the kitchen, living room, and front hall were all pretty much the same room, with the couch facing away from the kitchen. Moments later, Neil slid down next to you and wrapped an arm around you, pulling you in for a soft kiss.

“So what movie do you want to watch tonight, lovely girl?” He hummed against your lips. You could feel his fingers brushing against your jawline.

“Hmm…how does watching The Human Centipede sound? Chill movie for a chill night?” You tell him, reaching up to give his brown hair a loving ruffle.

He chuckles at your words and pulls away from your lips. He shakes his head, giving you a disapproving laugh. You frown at his actions and lean back, waiting for him to calm down. He never took you seriously when it came to this horror stuff. You suspected that deep down he was a little insecure that it was because his sweet girlfriend lived for all the guts and gore, while he, a grown man, could barely stomach it. He noticed your face and stopped laughing, his lips still twisted into a soft smile.

“Sorry, love. I know you’re serious it’s just, it’s always so funny to me that my sweet girl is into such…fucky shit.” He tells you harshly, though you know he doesn’t mean it. He makes himself chuckle again.

“Neil” you mewl, a little hurt in your voice. “It is not ‘fucky shit’. It’s cinema.” You pout, a frown still stinging your lips.

His face immediately softens as he realizes his how harsh his words probably sounded, and his chuckles quickly subside. He takes your head in his hands, cradling you softly.

“Hey, baby, I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to hurt your feelings or anything. I know you’re into that kind of stuff, and I shouldn’t be so judgmental. Alright?” He apologized, placing a kiss to the tip of your nose. “I love you”

You let out a sigh. “I love you too, Neil. And…yeah. I…guess it sort of is fucky shit, I just…I like that kind of stuff, you know? I think it’s cool and, and gnarly. But I- I get that it’s not for everybody.” He nods, giving you another kiss, this time on the lips.

“Let’s throw on The Human Centipede. Just promise to hold me if I get too spooked” he teases.

You jokingly roll your eyes “Fine…I guess….scaredy cat.” You giggle and lay your head on his shoulder.

You did end up having to hold a scared and surprisingly jumpy Neil… multiple times throughout the course of the movie. Once you had finally finished and the credits rolled, Neil hesitantly unwrapped himself from around you.

“Maybe we um” he gulped quietly “Maybe we don’t watch that one again. For a while” he whispered to you.

“Oh, Neil sorry, was it too gross? We really could have picked something else if you wanted…” you began, a pang of guilt in your voice.

He was quick to interrupted. “No, no not at all baby! I’m glad you got to show me a movie you liked! I was harsh about it earlier, and that was my fault. Don’t sweat it, alright?” He assured you quickly, finishing with a nervous chuckle. You nodded, a smile creeping onto your face. “That’s my girl” he grinned.

“Next time we can just watch Sunset Boulevard or something instead. That one isn’t scary at all. Okay?” You tell him sweetly, still maybe attempting to comfort him.

“Sounds perfect, my love.” He replies, kissing your cheek.

Hello, friends!

I haven’t made a proper post of my own in some time, mainly just reposting. The toxicity of the ship war (and honestly, just the fandom in general) is not conducive to good mental health, and with there being no hint of any news I just found it draining. The thing is, we are all here because we love these books, and for many of us books in general. So before I get back to posting my own elriel related content, I wanted to share with you some books I’ve absolutely adored this year. Please feel free to reblog this and add your own!

Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff 🩸

This is the second book in the Empire of the Vampire series (first book of the same name) and it is a strong contender for my book of the year. Not for the faint of heart, this series is bloody, brutal and emotionally devastating - but my GOD what a world, what characters. They are flawed and full bodied, the world is desolate and grim, with such little hope but it is a corker!

All This Twisted Glory by Tahereh Mafi 💔

Okay so this is the 3rd book in the This Woven Kingdom series. The first book in this series I felt very luke warm about, but I liked it enough to continue. The second book in this series is when I began to get really excited, I started to fall in love. The third book? Get out of here, I’m obsessed. If you like stories that include Jinn, inspired by Persian mythology and absolutely jam packed with all the yearning, pining and painful brooding you could possibly ever imagine - this is the book for you. Small caveat, that not an awful lot happens in this book to move the story forward, but the MMC is so down bad that I loved it regardless.

A Fragile Enchantment by Alison Saft 🪡

This one really took my by surprise. This is set in a regency era setting with a sprinkling of magic (and I do mean a light dusting) with a Lady Whistledown style sub plot that really did have me guessing. Our main character, Niamh, has the magical ability to imbue clothing with feeling - and has been hired by the Royal Family to make clothes for the Princes upcoming nuptials. Except there’s a chemistry to Niamh and the broody, irritable Prince Kit that is undeniable. Couple that with a growing unrest of the Macklish that threatens the Royal Fam, it all leads to a very delicious story. I didn’t expect to love this but it truly worked it’s way in to my heart.

Emily Wildes Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett 🧚

This is the second book in the Emily Wilde series but as with the first book I absolutely adored this. It is whimsical, mildly cosy. Emily goes through one of the best character arcs I’ve ever read, and Wendell may be the best blonde haired fictional man to ever exist. If you love proper Faerie stories, you will love this.

Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare ⚔️

This was an absolutely impeccable start to what I think is going to be an epic fantasy series. Forbidden romance, political intrigue, an interesting magic system and world to boot. I cannot wait for the next book!

The Crimson Moth (aka Heartless Hunter) by Kristen Ciccarelli 🦋

I absolutely devoured this. Witch and witch hunter. Courting for the sake of trying to discover the others secrets, angst, brooding, betrayal. I’m loathe to say anymore lest I give away more than I should. But this is for sure one of my favourite books of the year. I read it so fast, I think about this daily. Please please please, give it a go - you won’t regret it!

The Road of Bones/Kingdom of Claw by Demi Winters 🪓

The Road of Bones was a 5⭐️ read I absolutely loved it, but it’s sequel KoC has made its way into the 6⭐️ category for me. Viking inspired fantasy, with impeccable world building, the romance in this is also chefs bloody kiss. I can’t recommend it enough. Silla isn’t a typical girl boss (I love a girl boss don’t get me wrong) and she got me through the missing Elain Archeron hours.

The Aurelian Cycle (Fireborne, Flamefall & Furysong) by Rosaria Munda 🐉

I loved this so much because it started from a different place than most fantasy stories. In this, we start 10 years post Revolution of a regime that was ruled by the Dragon Lords, who over taxed the poor and meted out brutal punishments to people who’s only crime was being poor and hungry. Our main characters met in an orphanage in the wake of the revolution, but they could not have come from more different backgrounds- and yet they love each other anyway. The political intrigue and emotional complexities of this story was superb. 10/10

The Ember Quarter (An ember in the ashes, a torch against the night, a reaper at the gates and a sky beyond the storm) By Sabaa Tahir 💀

I’m so incredibly late to the party but I’m glad I arrived nonetheless. What an epic tale, what a fantasy story. You truly set off at a running pace with this one - it feels like there’s very little stopping time. Every word and page of this story is used to its full effect. I’m in awe of this authors story telling prowess. It broke my heart, but by god how I loved it.

thank you thank you!! i'm obsessed with these asks 🩸 - Has your F/O ever marked you in a way that felt like a bond, even if others might see it as dangerous or unhinged? Probably the most important mark is the one Rire branded onto Aro's breast. It's magic, functions like a tracker, and lets Rire know where Aro is at all times. It quite literally bonds them together. Though it's not nearly the most dangerous or unhinged thing Rire has done to Aro...

👻 - Does your F/O enjoy toying with your fear, knowing it brings you closer to them? Oh absolutely; fearplay is one of Rire's biggest kinks, after all. He loves Aro's stubbornness but he loves her fear even more. It's especially entertaining to create a nightmare world around her, watching her stumble around in blind terror before finally swooping in to "save the day".

💣 - Would your F/O ever involve you in their criminal or villainous schemes, willingly or not? How would it bond you? Would it be fun or sickening? Other?

Rire typically doesn't like to involve Aro in his work. Humans have no business in demon affairs, and anyway he thinks Aro is just a toy to play with, not a competent person with anything meaningful to contribute. One time he made her polish his soul collection and she wasted an hour just sitting and watching the pretty souls swirl in their jars. 🔗 - Does your F/O see you as their weakness, their strength, or both? How does that shape your connection?

Rire sees Aro as a trophy or prize. After a long and boring day at work, he rewards himself by forcing his pet to fulfil his needs. Occasionally he will parade her around among his subjects like a captured prisoner, to show that he can dominate humans as easily as he dominates demons. 👑 - How does your F/O treat you differently from everyone else, even when they’re at their cruelest? To his credit, Rire is very careful with Aro's boundaries. He knows exactly how much abuse she can take, physically and mentally. He knows there are certain lines she will absolutely not cross, and he takes care to avoid them. Rire is very fond of Aro and wants to keep her around for as long as he can, unlike other human victims who generally die pretty quick. Some bonus answers because I wanted to yap about arorire <3 🕷️ - Does your F/O bug your clothing, house or vehicle? Would they ensure you’re well monitored? Do they do it out of protection or obsession? As mentioned before, Rire tracks Aro through the mark on her breast. He does this primarily because he's a control freak and needs to know where she is at all times, but he's also a demon prince and needs to make sure she is not attacked by his enemies (*cough* Cain *cough*) 🎭 - Does your F/O hide their true self from others? How does it feel knowing the side of them no one else does? Rire doesn't have much to hide - he is unapologetically evil and depraved. Still, he does often show a gentler side to Aro that other people rarely see. She is his favorite toy after all, and he takes good care of his property. Aro feels conflicted about it - she craves his affection and love, but struggles to reconcile it with his abuse. 🪓 - Does your F/O ever fear losing control around you? How do you reassure them? Or do you like the chaos?

Rire prides himself on his self-control. He wants to be elegant and dignified at all times. The only time he ever lets down this facade is during sex with Aro, when he acts a little more feral and animalistic. Even then, he's careful not to rough her up too much. ⛓️ - If your F/O could keep you by their side forever through unconventional means, (being immortal via soul pact, vampirism, science) would you let them?

Well, since Cain can bring people back from the dead Aro is already functionally immortal lol...and definitely not by choice 🪦 - Would you help your F/O cover up a crime, no questions asked? How far would you go to protect them?

Most of the time, Rire can take care of himself. But if he showed up on Aro's doorstep weakened and wounded from some sort of battle, she wouldn't take advantage of it to escape his grasp. She's not a vengeful person. She does have genuine affection for Rire, so she would take him in and patch him up as best as she can, no questions asked. 🔮 - Does your F/O believe you’re destined to be together? What lengths would they go to if fate didn’t agree?

Rire manipulates Aro by telling her that they were destined to be together, that she was always fated to fall into his cruel hands. How could she deny fight by resisting him? That would be pretty bad because Rire's entire lifestyle is based off his current position in power. At that point he probably wouldn't have the power needed to keep Aro in line, so he would have to kill her and keep her soul instead.

CALIGO doesn’t really have someone she hurt the most that isn’t dead (her victims). But if there was one person, it would be her friend during idol training. It was moreso emotionally and unintentional, her friend hated seeing her push herself so hard and neglect herself. Caligo never knew in the moment, but looking back on it now, Caligo wishes she was kinder to herself to see her friend smile more.

AZA has probably hurt Vivia the most, they have a lot of conflict with each other that both leads to physical fights and emotional wounds opening. Aza regrets it of course, it feels horrible in the moment and moreso after. He never wants to hurt Vivia but it usually provokes him by hurting him first.

CALIGO used to be SICK at the sight of blood despite being a vampire, she hated it as a kid. The only reason it doesn’t bother anymore is because as a child, she used to be deprived of blood by her parents and the hunger took a huge toll on her mindset. She practically lunged to drain blood out of anything the second she was able to, it was to train her to get used to the sight 

AZA was a little squeamish of blood but not really as much as you would expect from him. As a kid, he was pretty much exposed to blood a lot because he was raised in a very very strange cult

For CALIGO, it depends. For ZERO work, she obviously carries a lot of blades in straps and belts. For idol work, she carries a LOT. She carries makeup, her black card, sunscreen, gloves + masks, gum, and something sweet in her purse 😋

AZA doesn’t carry much really besides his phone, hair ties, vaseline and gum. He carries everything in his pockets, he doesn’t have any weapons on him. He doesn’t fight with any weapons

CALIGO definitely has a lot of survival skills, her parents trained her to obtain them at a young age so she was constantly in fight or flight mode, a hunt mindset. Caligo would definitely survive in the apocalypse with how her abilities as a herald works, she would practically be untouchable

AZA does have a lot of survival skills because of what his parents have done to him when they were all in the cult. Nearly every child had been forced to fend for themselves for almost a year in a forest. Aza would survive the apocalypse definitely and begrudgingly, this guy has leveled an entire country 😭

Ace and Gojo would probably answer with "a kiss" without hesitation. Sabo would probably smirk and agree that a kiss sounds nice.

Ace's curse- can't be held or cuddled

Gojo's curse- either same as Ace's or complete loss of his infinity

Sabo- this is actually a hard one. Probably something to do with like, people not remembering who he is or something.

🥸 What costumes do you and your f/o wear?

Ace and Gojo would 100% want to do couples costumes, so to appease all 3 of them, I'll go as a pokemon trainer. Ace would be a charizard, Sabo would be a salamance, and Gojo would probably be whatever he thought would be the most hilarious.

👻 Do you and your f/o believe in ghosts? What would it be like ghost hunting together?

Me- yes. Sabo- maybe, Ace- probably, Gojo- we're still unsure.

Sabo- vampire

Ace- werewolf

Gojo- zombie (he already almost died to Toji)

Me- I wanna go as a banshee but a pretty banshee

Ace and Gojo would. It would be absolute chaos and Sabo and I would probably sigh in exasperation but go along with it anyway because it makes them happy (they'd happily clean up though and give me lots of snuggles for putting up with them.)

Gojo- anything sweet

Me- cakes and cupcakes

Ace and Sabo- literally anything.

House/apartment is absolutely, completely decked out for the Halloween party, scary lights, cobwebs, the works. I'm laughing and telling them not to go overboard with certain things, but I love their enthusiasm.

Yes and by the end of it I'm forcing all three to sleep in my room because I'm terrified.

.... yes. We go trick or treating and Ace and Gojo are just as excited as the kids. Sabo is excited too but he's not running around like Ace and Gojo. He also ends up giving me a piggy back ride when I inevitably get too tired to walk but want them to continue. We go until everyone turns off the lights.

Ahhh this chapter…they kind of made up ❤️…BUUUUT I have to say that I‘m still pissed at Tae 😂

Yes, he knows what he did wrong. Yes, Yoongi could feel his sincerity about being sorry and yes, y/n finally kicked Tae‘s and Jimin‘s ass, but enough is enough. No more shit or broken feelings or else I have to have a serious talk with them…not to forget that no one ever mentioned poor Jungkookie to him 🥺 he has the purest heart and is constantly working so hard on himself, finally getting it together with Tae, opening up and stuff und then getting told he’s a✨distraction✨ hell no! I will fight for this man 🔫🔪🪓

And the reveal of the plan…a spell to turn someone human again…whaaaaaat ??!! 🤯 somewhat I have the feeling that someone will sacrifice himself for the sake of the others 🥲 the pain will be real (like with the vampire diaries 💔)
