The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic

I didn't go into this expecting much, because you can almost never tell if an isekai is going to be good or not (and all the subjectivity that comes with the term 'good'.)

This looks like it's gonna be hella fun.

Overall Score so far: 7.5/10

The summoning to another world as "Heros" to defeat the "Demon King" is your standard isekai plot. It's not original, but it's a good basis for a story, if that's not all there is to the premise. I'm looking forward to how this will get it's own unique twist.

The initial vibes I was getting from it were a mix of

a bad reminiscence of the beginning of "Rise of the Shield Hero" where I was worried that healing magic would be considered a bad or weak ability, and our main character Usato would be looked down on. AND

The great impression of "Wow, I want the Student President Inumaki and Vice President Kazuki to become a poly ship with Usato." I'm just gonna head cannon that the whole way though, thank you very much, they have great vibes together!

I'm thankful the first didn't come to pass, and that the second is going to be the basis for fanfic I look for in the future lol. But also, I hope the Demon King is fun, and that the fox girl doesn't bring any Loli vibes into this.

The green-haired Rose, a healing magic user who is going to train our intrepid healing hero, is the only Voice Actor that popped out at me. Which makes sense, as going through the other voices, it's a lot of small time or up and coming VAs! They're all doing a fantastic job though.

But Rose.

For a second I thought it was the Headmaster from Season 2 of Ancient Magus Bride, as she have a similar low and husky voice. But no, we have Tanaka, Atsuko - The voice of Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, and where I recognized her from, Hanami from Jujutsu Kaisen!!! She has a very long record of supporting roles in so many anime, and I really like her voice, so I'm glad I get to listen to it here~

Episode 1 Spoilers Below!

Youve got your standard typical kid who is So Normal, and you have the Amazing and Loved By Everyone Student Body Council members, who everyone thinks are dating, and are just So Pretty and Smart and Good At All The Things.

I love how they are both interested in Usato for treating them like normal people, because as we find out, they are just typical high school students. And while they are not actually dating, just spend a lot of time together, I could absolutely peg these two as swingers looking for a third member, and that's all just delusions on my part hahahaha.

Inumaki-sempai, the Student President, is a secret Chu-Ni-Byo, or one of those edgelord kids doing the naruto run and unironically thinks they have special powers to move things with their eyes. It's a phase everyone goes through, even if they won't admit it. But she is SO HYPE to be in an isekai, and I'm right there with her. I would totally react the same way.

And of course, to feed her Chunibyo tendancies, which are immediately spotted by Usato whose image of her is shattered (good, please see her as human), she's gained the power of Lightning Magic. All she needs now is an eye patch and some bandages on her hand, along with manical laughter.

Kazuki, her second in command, seems like a typical Popular Guy, but I love that when he's getting heated over their nonconsensual summoning (despite Inumaki getting hyped in the backgroun), Usato stepping in to calm him down and point out that there is no use getting worked up, is such a good base jumping point for where things will go from here. He's not a particularly interesting character yet, but he's a good guy who wants to protect those around him. It makes sense that he gets Light Magic.

I love that Kazuki has NO IDEA what an Isekai is, and is like - "Light magic... I can blind people I guess???" Has he never even played Dragon Quest? lmao

Usato of course, gets something different, and everyone flips out. He then stops being able to read the room and puts himself in his own situation by mentioning as such in front of Rose, despite the king and magic nun trying to dissuade her from finding out. He's a Super Duper Rare Healing Magic user, because of course he is. He's Protag-kun. But it's fun to see the "tag along" who DIDN'T HEAR THE HERO BELLS WHEN SUMMONED get such a unique skill.

Bless this sweetheart. I hope they can become an awesome trio.

I can't wait to watch episode 2, and see if we get some actual twisted ways to use healing magic to fight.

My hopes for how Healing Magic can be used "incorrectly"

up someone's internal organs with a punch

be able to manipulate their blood or body water content to kill, OR

just toughen this kid up into a fighter who can heal all the damage he takes and turn him into a tank rather than just a support. ZOMBIE FIGHTING STYLE

Either way, I'm gonna enjoy this one!!

About a dozen or so species of hazel species are found in the marshy regions of the Northern Hemisphere. The hazel leaves are rounded with jagged edges, velvety soft to the touch, and turn yellow or pink in the fall. The hard nuts of the hazelnut ripen from mid-August to October. Wrapped in ragged leaves, it is said that it takes 9 years for a hazelnut to bear a full crop. The number nine is the sacred number of the muses who are in charge of our intellectual activities. This is one of the reasons why, since ancient times, the hazel has been associated with inspiration in the arts and learning.

The ancient Celts regarded the hazel as a tree of knowledge. All knowledge was intertwined within the husk of the hazel nut. This is where the idiom "in a nutshell" comes from. The hazel is the tree of white magic and healing, the poet's tree. Its sacred berries were the food of the gods as well as a source of inspiration and immortality. For the ancient Celts, there was no better expression than poetry, neither in art nor in magic.

An ancient Irish code, handed down to posterity as the 'Sacred Triad', stipulates that anyone who intentionally cuts down a hazel tree is guilty of death. No other tree has been given such high status, except the apple.

The hazel is said to be a talisman of good health and protection against all kinds of disasters. In Ireland, on Beltine and Solstice, a cow is led in front of two huge torches, with its back covered in hair roasted with a flaming hazel wand, as a curse against magic and bad luck. Sometimes hazel twigs were also tied to horses' manes to protect them from fairy magic.

The planet that rules the hazel is Mercury. The hazel is inseparable from water, but the ruling element is air. It is said that the hazel is surrounded by the magical power of mercury, which enhances mood and brings inspiration.

高等部2年生の授業を受け持つ先生たちは、生徒のほとんどが勝手知ったる内部進学生だからか、かなり趣味に走った奔放な授業で有名。個性と独立心を獲得した、港区に誇れる立派な月高生の育成に勤しんでいる。

鳥海先生 Toriumi かに座／AB型 2-F担任、現代文担当、生徒会顧問

2年F組��担任で、現代文の担当。非常にさばけた性格で、真面目に話を聞かない生徒に謝罪を要求したり、サボりの生徒の席を勝手に再分配するなど、裏表のない性格そのままの授業をやっている。はっきりとした目鼻立ちと茶色がかった髪のため、実家のある島根ではお人形さんのようだと近所のオバちゃんたちに評判で、小中高の子供時代もそこそこモテ期をすごしていた。当時から文学少女だったために大学は国文科に進み、「日本文学に精通した可憐な新入生降臨！」くらいのウワサは辞さないとさえ期待していたが、いざ上京してみると、 自分の程度が世間でいかに平凡かに気付かされ、以降はこれといった華やかな出来事にめぐり合うことのないまま、29歳の現在に至る。

保健室に巣食う悪魔

無精ひげとよれよれの白衣、脂に汚れた黒ブチ眼鏡、およそ健康的とは言い難い頬と土色をした顔色で、「優しい保健の先生」のイメージとは似ても似つかないうさんくさい風貌の保健室の主。月高赴任前のことを知る人間はおらず、名前すら本名ではないとさえ言われている。元気なときに訪れても追い���されるだけだが、体��が悪いときに保健室の戸を叩くと、先生自ら調合した極めて怪しいクスリを盛られる。運よく効けば具合がよくなることもあるが、当然トドメの一撃になることもなきにしもあらず。

養護教諭として生徒の手当てや保健業務を受け持つほか、「個々の知識を結び付け、総合的にはたらかせる」 総合学習の授業を受け持っている。しかしその実態は、「魔術を利用した人間心理治癒」と称し、前代未聞の魔術理論を紐解く、生粋のオカルトマニア。オタク特有の傾向である、自分の得意分野に関して話が長い特徴がある。夏休みの補習では、ここぞとばかりにさらにディープな講義を展開し、計5日間の日程のうち丸2日を魔術講義に付き合わされることになる。

体調の悪い生徒をじつに嬉しそうに迎える彼。保健室での行ないが本当に手当てなのかも怪しい。

江古田先生 2-E担任古文担当

今年50歳を迎えたの古文の先生で、風花の在籍する2年E組の担任。古きよき日本を愛する感覚は、現代の若年層とかけ離れているため、教師たちの間でも煙たがられている。「エアコンは体に毒」のスローガンの下、冷房や暖房をしょっちゅう止めてしまうので、「エコだ」と揶揄されている。面白いを「ホワイトテイル」、白ける話を「ホワイト キック」と一生懸命使っているが、90年代に若者文化として知識を仕入れてから時間が止まっているらしく、なんだか哀れ。

小野先生 歷史担当

熱狂的な戦国マニアの先生であだ名は小野ムネ。政宗がらみにヤマをはればテストで高得点が狙えるが、受験を考えると参考書や塾に頼らざるを得ないため、3年生からは「歴史のハズレのほうの先生」と思われている。金色の細い三日月の前立てが印象的な愛用の兜は言うまでもなく政宗公の戦装束。オーダーして作らせた一品物で、新入生はその格好で行なわれる授業に驚愕するが、ひと月もすると立派になじんで気にも留めなくなり、そうなって初めて月高生としての肝が据わる。42歳。

僕は政宗公に会いに行く！

• えーと今日は貝塚の話か。うーん、貝塚なんて、ただの貝だよね。もういいかなこれは。先生、早く戦国とかに行きたいね。ワクワクしたいね。(4月30日・授業)

宮原先生 数学担当

三角定規を片手に数字のかわいらしさを語る数学の先生。ふさふさアフロでおねえ言葉という風采は、変り種の多い月高高等部の教師たちの中でも異彩を放っている。数字や数式への思い入れはかなりのものだが、「解法」を愛するけれど「解答」には興味がないため、最後の繰り上がり計算をいつも忘れてしまうという、「使えない」 先生ナンバーワン。

数字LOVEの心

• ···で、ここが繰り上がるので···答えはX=1ですね。···え、違う？あ、ここが11だから··· すいませんね、X=2か。え、まだ違う?？··各自、計算してくださいね。そういうわけで、すごいでしょ。数学って面白いよね。こんなに難しい問題も、解いてみるとX=1··· あれ、2だっけ？まあそんな感じで、簡単になっちゃうでしょ。ブラボーでしょ。(4月27日・授業)

この8、なんかすごく可愛いでしょ。9なんか尻尾がぷりぷりだし。マニアックだけど、2!！2もいいよね〜、ほんと、イイ！数字って可愛いよね。もうたまんない！(9月28日・授業)

竹ノ塚先生 物理担当

長身で渋めの男前、スーツは華美ではないが上質で、どことなくセンスを感じさせる45歳。見た目はいたってまともだが、せっかちで授業の進度が異常に早く、実験は結果のみの紹介、問題の解法を教えないままテストになだれ込むなどのせいで一部の生徒から不満が上がっている。板書の文字は大きく見やすいが汚く、折ったチョークの数は校内一。

かっこいい言葉集

• 言ってみれば、夏休みはもう··· 摩擦係数ゼロの坂道の上ってとこか。おっ、先生、今カッコよかったな。黒板に書こうか？(9月1日・授業)

叶先生 倫理担当

おもに3年生の倫理の授業を担当する先生。とくに男子生徒に人気が高く、「エミリ先生」と慕われている。授業熱心で進学指導に力を入れているのが評価されている一方で、若い男の子を手の平で転がして楽しむという、教師としてちょっと問題アリな性格。教師にしておくのは惜しい抜群のスタイルと評価が高いが、胸は詰め物とのウワサ。一部上場企業のサラリーマンと婚約中。

禁断の恋のゆくえ

自分にほれ込んでいる友近を、勉強を見るためと称して自宅に招いている叶先生。絶対に��密のハズがどこからかバレて、九州の学校に転任することになって しまう。

大西先生 科学担当

細面ですらりとした、32歳の先生。婚約者と別れた過去があり、当分恋はいいと思ってるうちに、本格的にどうでもよくなり現在に至る。メガネを取ると美人なのだが、武器を隠し持っている感覚がいいという理由で、人前では外さないようにしているらしい。東洋医学批判者で、江戸川先生と新しい薬の開発を競っている最中。

やっぱり化学反応が好き

• 昨日ね、テレビ見てたらダイエット特集やってたんだ。“水を飲むほど痩せる！” とか言ってね··· んなワケないじゃない！浸透圧とかオール無視でしょ？なのに、だまされるのが多いんだから··· (5月6日・授業)

• 来週の火曜から試験かー。実験バリバリやりたいんだけどね。薬品を混ぜ合わせる瞬間って、最高に興奮するよね。(10月7日・授業)

寺内先生 英語担当

学生時代、留学先のインドで知り合ったイギリス人宣教師と、帰国後に感動的な再会を果たし、結婚に至る。そのシーンを「クリスマスの思い出」として毎年生徒に披露、英訳させる先生。会話中にかなりの頻度で英単語が混ざるが、本人曰く「関西なまり」みたいなもの。黄色いスーツにカチューシャという、どことなく海の向こうのセンスが香る28歳。

長年の政治的活動と少なくない資金とで、ついに私立高校の校長職を射止めた人。教師としての才覚には残念ながら恵まれているとは言い難く、部下である先生たちだけでなく、生徒からもデキない男と見抜かれている。美鶴の高校生離れした生徒会長就任演説に対抗意識を燃やし、つぎの週の集会でありがたいお言葉を用意するが、順平に同情される始末。

2024 Winter Anime Lineup (Master Post?)

First post for a new blog where I'm going to try and record my opinions, break downs, comparisons, and various degrees of squees about anime!

The lineup for this year's Winter isn't as packed as the 2023 Fall season was, but that's always the case. It sure is still causing my To Watch List to keep getting longer... but more importantly because it's so lacking in big name shows one of my most anticipated shows gets to shine...

DEFINITE WATCH LIST

SOLO LEVELING - I've been waiting for the solo leveling anime since BEFORE the anime was ever announced, re-reading the webcomic/manhwa multiple times and just HOPING someone would animate these gorgeous shadows. It is a very well done power fantasy with only squints of romance, and while I'm sad it's been localized to Japan (and all the fuckery that comes with of Korean erasure), I got to see the first two episodes at the World Premiere and I. Am. So. Hype.

APOTHECARY DIARIES existed completely outside of my head space, and my initial response at the premise was, Raven of the Inner Palace? I wasn't actually expecting much from it and then the first few episodes BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER and now I'm obsessed.

DUNGEON MESHI is one of those manga I've heard about, but tried reading and it was too slow paced for me (I say, currently slogging through The Boat Arc (TM) of Hunter x Hunter), but the anime gives it life and I think I'll enjoy this alot. I love cooking anime and fantasy, so this will be fun!

KYUJITSU NO WARUMONOSAN is just straight up Crow Bait. That curly bowl cut, the gap moe of a villain who loves cute things, and voiced by fricken Shintarou Asanuma!!! (I know him as Samatoki from HypMic, other's will know him from the "Fucking Bullshit" song from Carole and Tuesday, and a host of other roles) Also, all the pretty sentei / power ranger boys!!! I'm so hype, in the most relaxed chill way for this.

UNDEAD UNLUCK is so weird in that it involves a lot of random sexualization, but it doesn't make me uncomfortable like Seven Deadly Sin's random gropping did, maybe because there is actual implied consent involved. Fuuko and Andy are Poly and I love them for it. And the world building is TOP NOTCH.

FIRE HUNTER - If you haven't seen season one, you are missing out. A darkly beautiful post-post apocolyptic alternate Japan-esque world, from the POV of a young girl, and a young genius boy having to let himself be manipulated by capitalism to survive, and gods? a magic system? but so soft that it's barely there even while being a full on fantasy story.

High Hopes or Taking My Time

SASAKI AND PEEPS- What a weird little show that has the weirdest combination of isekai, the most "this is fine." salaryman, and a fricken' CHUNIBYO BIRB. I've already watched the first episode and it feels like there are two magic systems going on and its a bit confusing, so we will see how this plays out!

WITCH AND BEAST - I keep wanting to call this Beauty and the Beast, because the beast is a rad bad ass looking lady, and the witch is certainly one of the most beautiful undertakers I've ever seen. I think he carries his boyfriend around in his coffin backpack, so I'm hype to see WTF is up with that >o>

DOCTOR ELISE - Why do manhwa I read keep randomly popping up as anime??? This is a vilainess turned good story, and supposedly the market is full of these, but none of them are the good ones I've read, so I did a double take of happiness when I saw this. THIS ONE IS GOOD. An spoiled princess gets killed, is reborn in Korea and becomes a doctor, only to be killed by Airplane-kun, and winds up back in her old body where she decides to become a doctor again! The prince is even not your typical icy asshole! (although maybe he is a little at the beginning..)

CHERRY MAGIC - THIS FRICKEN ENGLISH TITLE GOOD LORDS ABOVE. I'm dying. I'm also excited to see this one play out and I'll be hiding behind a pillow giggling like a mad lad while I do. It's been a while since there's been a good BL that's not SAD (looking at YOU Given and Banana Fish, but avoids eye contact with Sasaki and Miyano) so hopefully it doesn't dip into that territory. Going into this one mostly blind as to the premise apart from the obvious Gap-Moe with the love interest.

SHANGRI-LA - I started watching this on a whim as the Fall season started to wind down, and found it to be a good potato chip to have on in the background. I'll probably continue watching it, but not weekly.

FRIEREN - This is what I watch when Jujutsu Kaisen hurts too much to keep going. I'm only a few episodes in, so it'll be slow going, but I think it's about to pick up it's pacing a little where I'm at, and it'll be good comfort food to have.

MAYBES

Mashle Season 2 - The pacing was SUPER WEIRD in the first season that despite all of it's shitting on the properties of she-who-shall-not-be-named, the end of the season kind of fell flat. I wanted to like it more, so I'm hoping Season 2 does that for me.

Fluffy Paradise - I love isekais with an adult in a child's body pretending to be just super smart, and this doesn't feel like it's going to do that, but still looks cute none the less. I'll give it a few episodes, but will quickly drop it if my watch list is too long.

Ishura - Is this what life is like for D&D Characters when they hit level 20? I HOPE SO. I LOVED the Legend of Vox Machina, and hope this has the same sort of vibes, but I'm going in blind!

The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic - Love me some fucked up healing magic. Please DO NOT let this be ANYTHING like Redo Healer. I refuse to watch that even those FUCKED UP HEALING MAGIC IS FUN. But this. This I want to see. Please let this also not be a harem. I'm fine with ~vibes~ but please no actual harem that's not actually Poly.

Blue Exorcist - THIS IS TOTALLY OUT OF NOWHERE. HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN?????? I remember the last season feeling like a disappointment? But can't remember why? Gonna see if this is worth re-watching the seasons from like... a decade ago.

Delusional Monthly Magazine - I watched the PV and had no fucking clue what was happening. Therefore, I will be watching a few episodes to sate my curiosity about WTF OR possibly just get myself even more confused and rage quit. lmao

I've watched the first few episodes of a couple of these, and will be watching a few more tomorrow, so Next Goal: Post a write up or three about what I think!
