Human nature is difficult to understand. It is like a bush with no visible entrance. In comparison, animal nature is easy to understand. This incomprehensible nature can be divided into 4 categories:
Those who suffer themselves and are based on wrong teachings.
Those who cause suffering to others, killing, stealing and committing other misdeeds.
Those who suffer themselves and cause others to suffer.
Those who do not suffer themselves and do not cause others to suffer, who live peacefully and free from greed, who abide by the Buddha's teachings, who do not kill or steal, and who live in clarity.
– Buddha (Majjhima Nikāya 51)
[Note: Images are the oldest surviving sculpture of saint Kūya (b. 903-d. 972). He was an itinerant Japanese Buddhist monk, or hijiri (lit. ‘saint’). In Kyoto, he helped people suffering from plague and poverty, and also developed social projects such as drilling wells, and at the age of 48 he founded Saiko-ji temple, the predecessor of Rokuharamitsu-ji temple. ]
This image is my new work, "Bacchus", which I had been working on until this morning.
Bacchus is the god of drinking in Roman mythology. He is the god of fertility and wine, as well as drunkenness and madness. The leopard, tiger and male goat are his sacred beasts, and his symbols include grapes, drinking cups and fertility horns.
The leopard's eyes looking for the next drink are like watching myself... I'll be careful not to fill up on a tired drink after the work😅🍷.
