It's so interesting to me how juvenile Spencer gets whenever the topic of Nik comes up. Trina has constantly supported his role in demon spawn's life, to the point where she sacrificed her chance at justice and closure from her trauma for him, and he's so frustrated with her (superior) arguments that he's asking Trina if she expects him to abandon demon spawn.
Trina, well-versed in Spencer-isms, brushes that right off, but it's a testament to how little Spencer has thought through any of this. Trina is finally laying out all the uncomfortable truths he's been avoiding since he started this latest foolish plan, and you can tell he's frustrated by the fact that deep down, he knows she's right.

things i have noticed abt ( some of ) my characters bc apparently tonight was one of those ‘watch every video of these musicals you’ve watched 10 times for the sake of character analysis’ nights:
alana - puts one hand on her chest a lot and kind of leans forward/slouches a bit as a way of showing she sympathizes w/ whoever’s speaking, despite the fact that she talks like she only cares about her own struggles ( which i would like to stress is NOT what’s actually happening. idk if anyone remembers that one tumblr post that goes like ‘i was trying to relate to your situation w/ an explanation of a similar thing that happened to me but i probably made it sound like i wanted it to be all about me and now you probably think i’m super conceited even though that wasn’t my intent’ but i imagine alana’s behavior is a lot like that )
trina - claps her hands together or clasps them tightly and holds them under her chin or close to her mouth, often when she’s outright expressing concern or when she’s grinning as though trying to mask her worry and insecurity with a smile. she also holds her hands on/in between her knees frequently while sitting down
naba - clasps her hands together in front of her and holds her arms straight, or clasps them behind her in the same fashion, she's almost always smiling or blushing when she does this

This Essay originated when the authors noticed that several identifiable phenomena occurred without fail, in any racially mixed group, whenever sex discrimination was analogized (implicitly or explicitly) to race discrimination. Repeatedly, at the annual meeting of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), at meetings of feminist legal scholars, in classes on Sex Discrimination and the Law, and in law school women's caucus meetings, the pattern was the same. In each setting, although the analogy was made for the purpose of illumination, to explain sexism and sex discrimination, another unintended result ensued--the perpetuation of racism/white supremacy.
When a speaker compared sexism and racism, the significance of race was marginalized and obscured, and the different role that race plays in the lives of people of color and of whites was overlooked. The concerns of whites became the focus of discussion, even when the conversation had been supposedly centered on race discrimination. Essentialist presumptions became implicit in the discussion; it would be assumed, for example, that all women are white and all African-Americans are men. Finally, people with little experience in thinking about racism/white supremacy, but who had a hard-won understanding of the allegedly analogous oppression (sexism or some other -ism), assumed that they comprehended the experience of people of color and thus had standing to speak on their behalf. [...]
Comparing sexism to racism perpetuates patterns of racial domination by marginalizing and obscuring the different roles that race plays in the lives of people of color and of whites. The comparison minimizes the impact of racism, rendering it an insignificant phenomenon-one of a laundry list of -isms or oppressions that society must suffer. This marginalization and obfuscation is evident in three recognizable patterns: (1) the taking back of center-stage from people of color, even in discussions of racism, so that white issues remain or become central in the dialogue; (2) the fostering of essentialism, so that women and people of color are implicitly viewed as belonging to mutually exclusive categories, rendering women of color invisible; and (3) the appropriation of pain or the denial of its existence that results when whites who have compared other oppressions to race discrimination believe that they understand the experience of racism.
--Trina Grillo & Stephanie M. Wildman, “Obscuring the Importance of Race: The Implications of Making Comparisons Between Racism and Sexism (or other -isms),” Duke Law Journal (April 1991), pp. 399-401

To All The Boys I've Loved Before (Part 41)
"Hey, Veronica," Justin says, smiling, "Converted more of your friends I see?"
Veronica grins and Logan's hands naturally gravitate to her waist. He leans his chin on her head but she moves slightly to the side and leans against him instead. "Someone's gotta get them on the right track. How are you doing, Justin?"
"I'm good," his smile falters ever so slightly, then asks, "How are you?"
"Same ole, same ole," she shrugs, eyeing the ice creams on the menu. "Could you get me a vegan menu, please?"
"Trying out for vegan-ism?"
"I wish I had the strength," she lightly chuckles. "The pull of dairy is just too strong for me."
Justin chuckles along, before pulling out the specialized menu and handing it to Veronica.
She gives him a quick thank you as they walk to their table.
"Figures you'd be on a first name basis with the ice cream boy," Logan remarks, his hands still on her waist as she walks in front of him.
"He goes to our school."
"Hm. Since when have you been so friendly with the student body?"
"I'm plenty friendly," she defends as she takes her seat across Mac, sliding the menu to her.
"I can see. It's like an episode of Everybody Loves Veronica Mars. Or more like All the Boys Love Veronica Mars."
"Oh and last week when Tina was hitting on you at the Waffle house? 'Oh anything for Logan and Logan's friend.' Was that an episode of All the Girls Love Logan Echolls?"
"Tina was hitting on you?" Dick whistles, giving a nod of approval.
"Not helping."
"On the bright side," Mac interrupts, voice light as she changes the topic. "I've never seen such a variety of vegan ice creams in my entire life," she comments, pleased with the turn about.
"Amy's is the best," Veronica readily agrees. "I'm seriously considering getting a part time gig here just for the employee discounts."
Logan looks to her, arching his brows. "You wanna get a part time job here with Justin?"
"With ice cream," the blonde corrects. "Justin just happens to work here too."
"Do you really need a part time job?" He asks, already calculating his deduction in Veronica time if she's serious about this.
She shrugs, explaining, "Meg used to babysit. It looks good on applications and the extra cash doesn't hurt."
"Dude, there's Superman ice cream," Dick says, eyes bright and mouth grinning. Logan peeks over to see the newly added flavour.
"If you really want a part time job," Mac says, looking at Veronica. "I saw an opening that would be perfect for you."
"Do I get free ice cream?" The blonde perks up.
"If you play your cards right, who knows?" She chuckles, she takes a minute trying to think of the name and hits a Eureka moment with her fingers slapping down on the menu. "Van Lowe investigations was looking for someone."
Veronica barks out a laugh, her body vibrating in chuckles. "Vinnie Van Lowe? He's skeazy."
Mac's brows furrow. "You know him?"
Veronica's head bobs in a silent yes. "He comes by every so often at the station. Bounties and whatnot. Likes to annoy dad."
"I figured you'd be into it," the brunette shrugs. "You're all Bond when it comes to the investigation stuff."
"Dude," Dick drags out, loud and enthused. "Like Buffy. Minus the vampires."
"You like Buffy?" Mac asks, surprise evident as she turns her attention to the boy next to her. "Is it 'cause she's a hot blonde?"
"She gets you like that at first but then you're hooked."
"Wouldn't it be more Angel considering his entire show is that he's a Private Investigator?" Veronica wonders, even though she does prefer Buffy herself.
Dick rolls his eyes. "Couldn't you just take the compliment?"
"Hey, you know," Veronica turns to Logan, grabbing onto his bicep as she stumbles on a realization. "Trina looks like Willow."
"Yeah if you're saying the devil looks like an angel," Dick scoffs and Logan laughs because he knows Dick also had a thing for Willow and Trina scares the life out of him.
"The devil is literally a fallen angel," Veronica reminds. "I think they could pull of twins," she looks to Mac for support, only to realize that the girl has yet to meet Logan's sister.
"The only thing they have in common is their witchy tenancies," Logan remarks, shaking his head of the thoughts.
"So I think this Vanilla Bean Coconut Milk Ice Cream looks promising," Mac says, ending the conversation in favour of ordering. "Did you decide as yet?"
"I'm feeling for some Rocky Road," Logan settles on. "How about you, babe?"
She bites her lips, warmth spreading in her with the simple word of affection. "Rocky Road sounds good. Can I steal some of yours if I go for Cookies and Cream?" She asks, hopeful glint in her blue eyes.
"Only if I can steal some of yours," he grins, fully willing to let her take whatever she wanted.
"You guys are gross," Dick says, flatly.
"You're only saying that because you know there's no way we'd share with you," Veronica points out.
"As if I need to share ice cream, you do know I could buy every flavour and then some, right?" He brags, smugness in his eyes.
"Great, so Dick's buying," Veronica exclaims in a finality. "We should get extra toppings," she says to Mac, pointing to the variations.
--vm--
"Please, Halo is way better than Call of Duty," Mac huffs, hand on her spoon while her eyes and body face the blond boy next to her. "Veronica, back me up."
Veronica gives a uncomfortable chuckle. "Not exactly an expert. Now, if you're talking to me about Mario Kart -"
"What Dick means is that he's better at Call of Duty than Halo," Logan puts forth, trying to somehow calm down the brewing storm.
"Dude, no," Dick denies, shaking his head, hair swishing back and forth like he was starring in a L'Oreal advert. "I will undoubtedly unleash a can of whip ass on Call of Duty but it is better than Halo. More realistic, firstly."
"That's besides the point! Firstly, Halo isn't even aiming for realism, you're in a giant ass suit fighting aliens in space. Realistically, you'd be dead a long time before you even started shooting. Secondly, weapons and firepower are a hellova lot better. For starters, gravity-defying hammers -"
Veronica stares at the two of them and says to her boyfriend, "Are they really arguing about which game is better when they both enjoy playing both games?"
"Yup," he answers simply, slurping up a spoonful of his ice cream.
"Would it help if I point out that their ice cream is melting?"
"Doubt it."
She tilts her head and stares at him, "How's about a bite of that Rocky Road?"
He grins, obliging to her wish. He takes a scoop of ice cream and gestures for her to open to say ah. "You like?"
She hums, enjoying the chocolatey sensation in her mouth. "Ice cream is life."
He chuckles, tucking her blonde strands behind her hair. "You said that about lasagne. And also waffles."
She leans into his palm, licking her lips, she says, "Where is the lie?"

Superman vs. Superwoman: Why is one more popular than the other?
By Tim Goldich
We often hear the lament: Why are there so few female superhero movies and why do they so often fail at the box office? The answer is simple feminism tells us, men are “threatened” by powerful women. Well, let’s think about this . . .
Powerful men have sex appeal. Movies exaggerate male heroes as “powerful,” “autonomous,” “privileged” and “entitled” for the sake of audience gratification in general, plus male fantasy fulfillment, plus female sexual arousal. To achieve maximum male arousal, the media need only present men with a pretty female showing some skin. To achieve maximum female arousal, the media must present women with a handsome man who’s heroic, strong, aggressive, confident, successful, wealthy and powerful. From a feminist perspective, Michael Keaton gets to be Batman while Kim Bassinger just stands there. From a masculist perspective, to have the same sexual impact as she, a man has to perform, achieve, and succeed at impossible, stratospheric levels, while a woman need only stand there.
Moreover, Ordinarywoman Lois Lane turns her nose up at mere Clark Kent (her own male equivalent) and holds out for Superman. If Lois Lane takes no interest in him, how can we credibly depict Superwoman falling hard for Mr. “Mild Mannered”? Wouldn’t Superwoman only have eyes for Godman?
In Superman I, our hero defies law and turns back time to save the woman he loves. In Suprman II, he gives up his powers, gives up everything, to wed the woman he loves. Seeing an ordinary woman bring the male superhero to his knees, the female audience member is given a hero that’s accessible, protective, and profoundly caring. Superman is hero to both sexes. But, let’s face it, female superheroes take little interest in men. In fact, both Xena and Wonder Woman are implicitly lesbian. In her essay, Wonder Woman: Lesbian or Dyke?, Trina Robbins quotes Robert Kanigher (Wonder Woman author since 1948): “the amazons from her home, Paradise Island, where no men are permitted, were all lesbians.” Her Paradise Island is “paradise” exactly because it isn’t blighted by men. “Marston [Wonder Woman’s creator] occasionally hints that Wonder Woman might be in a Xena and Gabrielle relationship with another woman.” Actually, two other women: best friend Paula and Marya, “a beautiful eight foot tall ‘Mexican mountain girl,’ who definitely has a crush on Wonder Woman.”
“Getting in the way of Wonder Woman’ relationships with other women is always Steve Trevor, the Token Boyfriend. The Lois Lane to Wonder Woman’s Superman . . . She always puts him off, when he asks her when they will marry, with statements such as, ‘When justice has finally triumphed over wrong!’ or ‘When evil and injustice vanish from the earth!’ In other words, it’ll be a cold day in hell, buster. . . . Steve Trevor is not only the Token Boyfriend in these comics, but often the Token Male in stories that otherwise feature only women. Any other males in these stories are usually villains, like Mars, god of war and sworn enemy of the amazons.”[i]
But Lois Lane’s no “Token Girlfriend.” She’s a tough, opinionated, independent career woman and the love of his life.
Is Wonder Woman “queer”?  “Obviously yes,” says current WW author Greg Rucka. “And it needs to be yes for a number of reasons. But perhaps foremost among them is, if no, then she leaves paradise only because of a potential romantic relationship with Steve [Trevor]. And that diminishes her character. It would hurt the character and take away her heroism.” So, basically, a Superwoman who could truly love a man just wouldn’t make any sense? Is that it?
As if to underscore Wonder Woman being a hero to women only, there’ve been female-only showings of the new WW film.[ii] Males who protest are being shamed as “fragile” and “crybabies.” And it gets worse. The male hero protects good women from bad men. Will our female hero protect good men from bad women? Of course not, that would be “absurd.” So our heroine will also protect good women from bad men. The hero becomes female, but the villain remains male.
However, “threatened” and “sexist” and “misogynist,” and “male chauvinist” accused men may be, I for one will forgive them for not packing movie theaters to root for a heroine who is indifferent to his kind, beats up others of his kind, and aligns herself against others of his kind—films in which the basic dualism of virtuous feminine/villainous masculine holds as usual, but without even the one hero male to help balance the scales.
What would “female-ism” demand of us? What is there in all this for self-respecting males (and I think there are still a few of us left) to embrace? If, in defiance of feminism, we were to take gender reality under consideration, then there’s no mystery; no need to resort to “misogyny” for an explanation as to their unequal popularity. Supermen are heroes to both sexes, but Superwomen are heroes to women and women only.
What equalism understands, but feminism does not, is that women ply influence in all the above. And a balanced (equalist) view of gender reality cannot be achieved until this influence is properly entered into the gender-political equation. Much of the depiction of men as “supermen” is, and always was, an effort to turn on the ladies. As the media caters to male sexuality by giving them beautiful women to look at, so the media has catered to female sexuality by giving them Supermen to look at. For Lois Lane, nothing less will do. In this dynamic women are not pawns; they are powerful participants.
