MATILDA HORATIUS BACKSTORY. [TW: Abuse, religious trauma/topics, experiments on people, death, murder, description of torture, blood in the artwork.]
“Everything dear will manage to slip from her desperate grasp… yet the echoing sound of three bell chimes will always haunt her until she buries her own grave with her two, blood-stained palms.”
Matilda Horatius, an embodiment of destruction of her family, that’s how they picked up on her inability to respond and react like a normal person most of the time. Despite how much she hated to be like her father, she looked and acted too much like him through her whole life.
Her childhood wasn’t fulfilled or sweet, she was forced to survive the ‘cold’ at a young age because her family didn’t see her as a valuable child of the generation who could be trusted to continue the bloodline, all because she was clumsy and impatient with machinery tools, breaking them into two out of impatience. The only relatives she could truly rely on was her older brother and uncle, Emerson and Horacio. They were all quite different, yet their connection as a family and struggles of surviving managed to tie their differences into one.
She was treated as a mean and dirty guard dog, being used to send on tasks which required brutal strength. She never talked much and threw a punch before a single sentence if commanded, until Horacio teached her as many things as he could, hoping these methods would help her to become something far better than their ‘family’. With better surroundings, Matilda got better hobbies like writing and writing her own novels.
At age of 15, only now finding out about the existence of her last and youngest brother, Logan, who was hidden away, she barely holds onto her knuckles at the dinner table as everyone was finally introduced once and for all. She was frustrated, but maybe she could impress the kid, rebuild the image of that ‘mean dog’ to something far better.
After managing to get a small break from ‘family’ tasks and chores, she became a bellringer and worker at the Bucharest’s church with help of her ‘family’’s good connections with the priest, finding the place great and neat as she finally got to hear good and quiet murmurs around her, not being a bother at all, feeling light as a feather.
However, she never was free from the responsibilities she had to face as a Horatius child. In the mid 20’s, she had to accompany Logan on his first task of finding and transporting the ‘goods and supplies’ to the ‘family’. Unfortunately, the transportation didn’t go as planned and one of the old traps set by a long-dead farmer was turned on, slicing right across Matilda’s face and leaving a permanent scar across her face.
It didn’t really matter to her, nor barely anybody around her other than her brothers and uncle, like always. After she was discharged from hospital stay, she went back to her regular pace at work. At church, everything changed after her return. Once peaceful and quiet muttering turned into poisonous and tense whispering behind her back, constantly disturbing her once common peace.
May 18th, Sunday, Lord’s Day.
During one of the prayer preparations, Matilda checked for any faults and the last thing was the belltower, needing to ring it three times. The belltower was above the Altar, where the priest greeted the guests and chanted the usual prayers and blessings.
Matilda tugged at the rope, first ring.
“Through Him, with Him, in Him, in Him in the unity of the Holy Spirit,”
Matilda tugged at the rope with confusion. “Why does the rope feel lighter?” Second ring.
“All glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, forever and ever.”
Matilda let go off the rope. “There’s a cut on the rope.” Third ring.
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.
Fourth ring. “???”
The rope of the bell, ripped and let the bell fall down with the heavening thud. Right on the priest’s praying figure. She stood above it all at the tower, looking down at the bloody mess underneath, where the guests and staff screamed in fear and sorrow. “Who could’ve done such a thing?!”
Everyone blamed and pointed at Matilda, yelling and throwing different objects at her before she punched somebody in the face who held a weirdly-worn out knife.
‘You truly are a bloodlusted dog, Matilda. It was truly destined for you to wear that dirty dog muzzle on you and run experiments on you. You're a sinful and forbidden creation of the world.’ The voice by the court’s door snickered, as Matilda was escorted from it by force after being labeled as ‘Guilty’.
She was being punished, being chosen to be used as some aggressive subject for various asylum experiments.

Matilda couldn’t handle it, the fear taking over and causing her to struggle out of one of the plague masked doctor’s grasp and beating the other until the dark red splattered across the floor and walls. She was terrified, truly, the fear and desperation for survival caused her to look like a crazed hound. She dragged the bodies through the deserted asylum, before stopping at the silent lake and threw them to float and slowly descend into the depths.

After I managed to find the route back to my house, I pretty much started packing my things as soon as I arrived, well, not until I saw that manor letter on my desk with my old novels, offering me a job as one of the manor worker’s who patrolled the place. I’m not a fan of taking the role of some guard dog but there was no better option than accepting the fate of becoming a lab rat.
…
I worry about my brothers, Loggy’s secretary sent me a message about that incident, sa and Emmy… I hope his old heart will be alright. What am I even talking about, that old man handles everything better than anybody I know.

🔔✨BELLRINGER’S FINALIZED BACKGROUND STORY ✨🔔
(Warning for unhealthy family relationships, violence, implied lobotomy/ use of ppl as experiments, death)
Bellringer’s background.
-Matilda Horatius
“As long as i keep the smile, those pathetic and dirty doctors will get in the trap like rats getting caught in the cheese trap. Oh, the revenge always has a sweet taste, just how I like it.”
-Matilda was born in a wealthy family which was known for its great inventions, but Matilda was clumsy with machinery and her image was lower than everybody in their family because of that. Simply a maid and a peasant for them.
-As she grew up, she took a few jobs from the church and as she turned 20, she became a bellringer in the same church. Though she barely was present at her house, avoiding her parents and relatives and said she was ‘working hard’ at the church even though the job wasn’t really busy. The rumors say she was the popular anonymous writer who wrote a lot of poems and novels due to the scraps and the pages of them.
-In the local newspaper which blew up at the time, there was an article about Matilda dropping the church's bell onto the priest, killing him the moment it landed.
Matilda Horatius, the murderer of the priest [REDACTED]!
Dropping the bell of one of the church’s towers, killing the [REDACTED] the moment it slammed him into the cold tiles. The court has decided to give the criminal a cruel punishment yet they don’t dare to speak of it. Wonder what it might be?
-Matilda was sent into court after she was found near the forest. Shortly she was sentenced for rather cruel punishment, sent into white street asylum and used as an experimental lab rat. She was devastated, that easily said.
“This.. Incident with the bell will cost my sanity! Dang it... If Emerson was still with the family, what would he think of my influence on Logy....”
-[The description was scrapped with some sharp object. dirt and dust smudged on some sentences.]
-The plague doctor dressed people who were assigned to ‘treat’ Matilda, were found dead in the lake. Bruises, hand marks on the neck and heavy injuries in the right eyes from a strong force of strength. Matilda is missing, highly expected from the court that she committed another murderer.
-”Imbéciles débiles.”
-Matilda found an invitation on her table as she was packing her things to leave. It offered a safe place and reunited with her brother Logan if she accepted to join the so-called games.
