the only show where i am okay with fanon completely overshadowing (lol) canon is danny phantom. like we took this at best pg-13 cartoon about a ghost boy and his adventures and turned it into a horrifying story of tragedy and pain.
the portal accident? let's expand on that: he was electrocuted to death and had a portal to another dimension open on him. the agony he felt as he died is something horrific and unforgettable.
his parents are ghost hunters that hunt his ghost half haha! no. his parents are ghost hunters that are hunting their dead-is-he-dead-is-he-alive? child. they want to capture him for study. danny is constantly living in fear of parents because they want to "tear him apart, molecule by molecule." he is afraid of his parents discovering his secret: would it be better if they didn't know he was their son as they vivisect him? or knowing and doing it anyway?
14 year old superhero! boom pow he punches bad ghosts! so fun! wrong. he is a 14 year old atlas, stuck underneath the weight of protecting his home and the people in it. there are people who hate him, but it's okay because... because. he fends off anyone and anything that tries to harm those under his protection at the cost of himself. it hurts and he hurts but what else can he do? he gives up on his dreams of seeing the stars as phantom takes him away from school, so can continue fighting and keep people (except himself) unharmed.
the giw are so funny because they're so incompetent. but what if they weren't? what if they managed to catch him? what if fenton goes missing and phantom is never seen again? stuck in a tiny cell; he's not human. he is lesser and thus it's okay to tear him apart and put him back together over and over again. he is a shell of himself, truly dead despite being alive.
i could go on and on and on. my point stands: this fandom has developed something so intricate from a cartoon that would've otherwise been lost to time. we saw ideas and concepts that could be fleshed out into a truly engaging and gruesome story and did it! that's crazy!
this show by itself wouldn't be anything great, but fanon just made it so much better (by A Lot). danny phantom fanon is better than canon, and that's the truth

absolutely in shock and awe at how all three of the bad boys' curses went off and remained unbroken in one episode. jimmy's canary curse, grian's 'kills the person he cares most about' curse (as he was the person to suggest that jimmy should push off the tnt minecart; also killed jimmy like three times), and joel's end-game madness curse. like we were all so hopeful for some reason that THIS would be the season where it all ends but no. business as usual. jimmy's dead, grian's sad, and joel is mad. and also dead.

Luke’s biggest character flaw isn’t impatience or arrogance… it’s reckless optimism.
Like, Luke doesn’t actually think he can beat Darth Fucking Vader in a fight. He wants to get revenge, yeah, but he doesn’t think he’s a better fighter than Darth Vader, he thinks he’s luckier than Darth Vader.
Luke isn’t actually suicidal, despite how little effort you’d have to put in to provide evidence that he could be. He thinks, no, he knows he’s lucky. He’s used to being lucky, even. His survival tactics all sort of depend on Luke being the luckiest person in the room at any given time.
And he isn’t actually all that lucky, that’s pretty obvious, but he really just thinks “If I stay alive long enough, things will eventually just work out.” Like he believes in the Force before he even knows about the Force, almost. Some thingd are just supposed to happen, and his own continued existence as a free man is one of those things, so if he waits long enough, an opportunity will eventually show itself and all Luke has to do is grab it.
He is stupidly optimistic about his chances. But, he’s also not wrong? Like, he doesn’t win his fight against Vader, but he’s also one of the only people who have fought Vader twice and not died either time. He went and rescued Leia without a plan beyond “rescue Leia” and he made it out relatively unscathed. He got captured by a wampa and hypothermia, one right after the other, and he only has to spend a bit of time floating in space jell-o that isn’t quite set. He goes to Dagobah and gets the training he requests from Yoda, despite Yoda not wanting to train him. He rescues Han from Jabba the Hutt, and he doesn’t get fed to a sarlacc in the process.
But really, just look at his final fight with Vader. Luke just honestly believes that everything will be fine. He really thinks he can just ask his dad to please chill out and Vader will. Luke tells the literal actual Emperor of the entire fucking galaxy “No. I will not become evil. And I won’t be evil because I’m not actually angry at anyone.” Luke is the luckiest man alive, because he is still somehow alive.
Heir to the Empire really has him thinking “If I stay alive long enough, an opportunity will present itself” on the planet Myrkr. As in, the planet covered in ysalamiri that cut him off entirely from the Force. As in, Luke doesn’t feel the Force telling him to be patient because it’ll all work out. Luke just believes that.
And it only really hit me as I read that novel. Luke is aggressively, stupidly, recklessly optimistic at all times about his chances of survival. Like, he is one meta joke away from just being actively aware that he is a protagonist and therefore can’t die in the middle of a plot. He’s optimistic about his own life, his dad’s life, his sister’s life, his droid’s life; Luke is the most optimistic man alive.
He is not the most cheerful person. There’s a difference between optimism and happiness, and Luke is a character who is constantly doubting himself, but he also just fully believes in his own ability to stay alive. Like he thinks “As long as I’m in mostly one piece, that’s a success :)” He thinks “wow I’m a terrible Jedi. I don’t know what a Jedi is, but I’m pretty sure I suck at it,” while at the same time being the character who believes in and listens to the Force more than Qui-Gon Jinn.
All this to say, I really hope that one day I can be as optimistic as Luke Skywalker. That man felled a galactic Empire with enthusiastic optimism and familial love alone, I wanna be like that.

"we're friends. we're friends" that line is so strange to me. like, yeah? what else would you be mike? what other word to describe your relationship with will came to mind?
when i first watched it, i thought he was about to say "we're just friends" and i (almost) went completely insane. he was so defensive about it and for what. for what mike.

Haters gonna hate, but I know in my heart Lovely Runner is a great show because in one ep I am giggling with joy and by the end, it feels as though I have been shivved in the guts. And that wouldn't happen if I just straight up did not give a shit about these characters.
And look that reset had to happen. That boy...was not gonna stop dying for Im Sol lmfao. If he was that unstable in the og timeline for a girl who wasn't even giving him the time of day, how much more insane is he going to be over the girl who crossed time and defied fate to save him? How feral is he going to be now that he kissed her and dated her and probably punched her v-card in ep 12 tbh? Of course, he chased down the guy he knows is gonna kidnap her. No, it wasnt a smart move but he sure as hell wasn't gonna walk away if there's even a chance Sol is gonna get hurt. The guy was ready to die for her the moment they kissed, like that kiss sealed his fate.
Like, what do you with a guy who is that fatally in love that it destroys all sense of self preservation. You strangle that love in the crib and salt the earth so it can't ever grow again. Sol's mission statement was always to keep Sun Jae alive, whether he likes it or not because his life is worth more to her than their love. If he can't get it through his lovesick brain to choose life over her, then she's going to take that choice away. And I sort of love that sense of ruthlessness to her.
And the whole, 'well it just made the previous eps pointless' thing...well to me, the previous eps emphasized how far Im Sol is willing to go to save Sun Jae. How bad do you wanna keep him alive? Are you willing to sacrifice his one of a kind love for you and the beautiful moments you shared, that we as the audience shared with you two, so that we will be just as devastated when you make your final, gut wrenching inevitable choice? Can you live with that decision for the next 15 years?
Im Sol is tested again and again in her love for Sun Jae, only for the universe to tell her over and over "its not enough, your love and your sacrifice, its still not enough what more can you give what more can we take?"

You know how the cashiers at Trader Joe’s always comment on your grocery purchases, like “looks like someone’s making tacos!” and “can’t go wrong with orange chicken, am I right? 😀” and “ooh I haven’t tried this brand of muffin yet—is it good?”
Just imagine if pharmacists did that.

i wanna give sigma a home. . . one with a big garden where we can plant colorful flowers and read when it warms up in the spring and cools down in the fall. one with a wrap around porch where the fresh air can tickle our cheeks while we sit and drink lemonade. one with a big, comfy bed where he’s always guaranteed to have someone he can fall asleep beside when the moon hangs in the sky and wake up next to when the sun’s rays peek through the curtains. one where he feels like he has a place that he truly belongs.

listen there’s just something so thematically interesting about leo and piper being the ones who are left in the tlh trio. like. they’re who this started w, theyve been friends since the wilderness school even tho their memories of it are screwed with. truthfully, the story starts and ends with them. and for them to be the ones who are left behind. the ones left to grieve jason and wonder if what theyve done with their lives is worth it, to wonder if they can ever move on is sooooooo

Was feeling nostalgic about early manga I read as a tween and did anyone else grow up with Karin: Chibi vampire?
If you haven’t, the story centers on a family of vampires and the protagonist is basically a reverse vampire: she produces too much blood and needs to bite people to get rid of it, or suffer horrible nosebleeds.
Her blood “multiplies” and gushes out even more when she’s around her “type” of person to bite as a vampire. (In her case: unhappy people, while her brother likes stressed people, her mom likes liars etc, and their biting can be beneficial to those people e.g. removing their stress, forcing them to find a new target)
Now where am I going with this?
Consider: this man
Tumblr media
This man as a “failure” vampire of the pure blood Vinsmoke family because he can go out in sunlight, can’t erase memories on his own (relies on his big sister Reiju) and has to get rid of excess blood instead of drinking it.
(In the human world people assume that Sanji gets these nosebleeds because he’s a pervert)
Enter: Zoro, who happens to be Sanji’s « vampiric type » - and circumstances make it so that Sanji keeps having to be around him and have his blood multiply more and faster from the proximity and he still hasn’t figured out what it is exactly that defines his type yet.

My dad and I rarely talk on the phone unless there's bad news from home and he texted late tonight and asked if I could talk. Naturally I'm thinking something not good is coming.
He goes on to tell me that he was flying home and the plane had "that Philadelphia show you like" available to watch and he decided to watch the "Chuck-E-Cheese episode" because it looked interesting (insert me immediately turning insane). He thought it was really funny and told me how when he first came to the USA (early 90's) he took my sister to Chuck-E-Cheese and he remembers how baffled he was by the fact that there was a bar in the place (bc Australians would have that place looking like the end of the episode in a day).
And then he told me he watched the Celebrity Alcohol one because it reminded him of my interactions with the guys in the show (lmao) and that one was pretty funny too "with the private jet jokes" (surely the part of the celebrity alcohol episode that stood out the most)
He didn't watch any of the others (I don't think he remembers that I made him watch Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day last year) and his conclusion was "It's funny but it's a weird show" (So true)

my ex had never made it to a year with a partner before so in preparation to celebrate it, i made her a book filled with song lyrics and movie quotes and inside jokes and poems i wrote. i typed it all up on my vintage royal typewriter (i had to learn a LOT about typewriters because it wasnt in the greatest condition but i did it!!!) and on this cool old parchment. i made custom stamps that i was going to stamp onto some pages. i even painted a few pages. i then sewed all the pages together and learned how to book bind. covered the inside with a strawberry paper she gave me when she asked me to be her girlfriend. i used the old hard cover from a book we got from the thrift store on our fourth date. i bought custom faux pink leather to cover it.
and she broke up with me two months shy of 1 year.
she'll never know what is in those pages. because in that moment i realized they were not for her and i would never give it to her. and it sits on my bookshelf, this innocuous pink bound book. a testament to the love i still have to give.

There's just something about Angela going on and on about Leah being "like a daughter" to her while not even attempting the slightest of hints to warn her about the Makensy betrayal coming her way. Left her "daughter" for dead. Very Medea of her.
