🔏 Ah yes, more than once have I been asked about the alluring woman in the images, known as Mrs Harmon, aka Kath Harmon, Uniquefacewitch, Deepglitterwitch, and several other names which escape me at the moment.

I messaged Mrs Harmon to ask for permission to use her images. She allowed it, and even reposted a few on her Tumblr. Which is long since nuked, as were (at my last count) about ten other Tumblrs under which she posted erotica and explicit adult images.

Now that AI generated images are all the rage, I think I can say that Kath Harmon will not be coming back. She is a ghost. My belief is that Mrs Harmon is - was - a Photoshop generated image, using the face of a woman who I have not determined, and some clever "face switching" apps. I have seen the original image of a number of Kath Harmon pictures; some of them were crude, some very clever. Whoever was making these up was pretty talented (the crude images were, IMO, done by copycats). But I think that, having lost a lot of original Photoshop work since the Tumblr purges of recent years, the original artist has moved on.

That said, I have seen some AI generated artwork with faces that have the distinctive Kath Harmon look, so who knows if she may be returning in another form?

this may be a weird, out of place message.

I was mutuals with Ryn (when they went by Kath) many many years ago. We interacted briefly, but Ryn was one of my favourite follows. They got me into Mass Effect, which is now my favourite franchise. I deleted tumblr years ago, but would think of Ryn and the passion for Tess from TLOU often. Though I was not a TLOU fan, the stories and world Ryn created for Tess really stayed with the me.

Ryn came to mind recently and I was curious to know their thoughts on the live action Tess. I remade tumblr to find their blog as I had forgotten the url. I found their tumblr because of the joel miller "foxy grandpa" profile pic, which still made me laugh even years later. I was devastated to find Ryn had passed.

I know I am just a stranger on the internet, but I wanted to share that is not infrequent that Ryn crosses my mind. Ryn's love for Tess, their creativity, and their humour really stayed with me through the years. I will think of them for years to come.

I am so sorry for your loss. Ryn was truly a bright light light in this world that we have lost.

I always feel so honored when people reach out about their experiences with Ryn. They had such an effect on so many people who I never met and probably never will meet, and I especially love hearing from friends from other fandoms. We met through fandom, we became friends and creative collaborators and then fell in love, and our first date was a liveshow for The Adventure Zone. And so I treasure that this was such a huge part of their life.

They were restarting Mass Effect, the new (? remastered?) version that came out in 2021, the summer before they died. I got to see them play just a little bit, and they were going to show me all their favorite things and share the lore, and what they loved about it. (I am terrible at most video games, so I probably won't ever play it myself, alas.)

I know they loved Tess from TLOU - I also got a little bit of their hot takes about Joel, and iirc about people woobifying him? I had no idea what the hell the "foxy grandpa" Joel Miller icon was about when we first became friends, but I also associate it so much with them.

I don't know if the live action was any further than having been announced by the time they died; if it was, I don't remember their thoughts. (@adreamingofguns can you check me on this? between it not being my thing and 2021 being entirely consumed with the Horrors and the wedding, I cannot remember) I thought about watching it for them, but got warned off on account of a variety of themes that are a little too close to my various traumas, but I have vicariously enjoyed it through various mutuals who were watching.

Thank you thank you thank you again for the ask. I got a bunch of messages on various platforms when I posted from their accounts, including some folks who I am still mutuals with now. We had such a short time together, in the grand scheme of things, that it brings me both intense joy and intense sorrow to encounter other people who cherished their passion, creativity, and humor.

crystal castles gained international attention after a uk record label discovered a rough recording of a mic check dubbed alice practice that the band put on myspace in 2005 and forgot about for six months. this led to a series of limited-edition 7-inches on various hip uk imprints that sold out immediately. suddenly, glass and kath were being courted by labels amidst a whirlwind of touring over the past two years.

“the bidding wars in some countries were pretty intense. they just kept throwing bigger numbers at us. i think it’s because they work so hard promoting bands and then no one cares. no one promoted us and everyone cares, so they all want a piece of that.” - kath 

though their strange success story may be credited to the power of the internet, don’t expect them to be spokes people for the demise of the record label. they want their fans to hear the music, and apparently the fans actually do still want to buy cds. their myspace page is flooded with messages from people trying to find their still-unreleased disc.

“people assume that because everyone talks about us, there’s a cd in the stores,” - kath says.

the label is so concerned that the album might get leaked online that it hasn’t released any preview copies, so we’ve been listening to the disc while we talk. nevertheless, a widely downloaded and reviewed version has been passed around the file-sharing sites, which will cause much confusion when the real album actually drops.

“i originally gave alice a cd of 24 songs to choose from back when we first started, and some kid took 16 of them and put them up on the Internet as the album, and people have been reviewing it. i’ve actually read some very positive reviews for the 2004 demos.” - kath

the real album is sort of a chronology of the band, starting with some recordings from 2005 and ending not long ago. if you only know them from the notorious mic check song alice practice or their klaxxons remix, you may be surprised at how many soft and melodic moments join the high-octane distorto-dance listeners associated them with. the last track, an atmospheric ballad based on an acoustic guitar and 40 layers of glass’s voice, sounds more like the work of a shoegazer band like slowdive than anything you’d hear in a hipster dance club. which brings us to the biggest crystal castles contradiction: they make music for dance clubs but don’t actually like dance music. they see themselves as a punk band that happens to use synths, but you’d swear some moments on the record are gritty underground house music from the early days of chicago. kath and glass hate it that journalists sometimes characterize them as an accident, but how else do you explain how two people who hate disco are so good at it? to add to the strangeness, crystal castles have had considerable critical success crafting dance remixes for other indie bands, the last thing you expect from a pair you’d have a hard time dragging to an actual dance club.

“we started doing remixes because bands were contacting me when we were in desperate need of money. it was just good timing. bloc party wanted to pay us to remix their song, so I just chopped their vocals up over a crystal castles song we weren’t using. the thing I like about doing remixes is that I can get our fans some more crystal castles songs, sneak them another taste, because i used all unreleased songs that were just sitting on my laptop. on the road we listen to sonic youth, the stooges, joy division, black metal bands like emperor, mutilation. we’re not going to be listening to dance music.” - kath 

glass and kath first decided to work together because they loved all the same bands: aids wolf, sick lipstick, femme fatale.

“we wanted to do something like that without copying it, so instead of distorted guitars we’d use fucked-up keyboard sounds. but at the same time, i love new order and joy division, and wanted to use those kinds of dance beats. that’s what we set out to do: aids wolf get into a fight with new order." - kath 

to approximate the brutal attack of noise bands, they needed keyboard sounds that weren’t your usual trance presets, which brings us to the whole nintendo-pop sound they swear has nothing to do with video games. journalists and bloggers love to classify them alongside that whole chip-tune scene, bands that use actual video game technology to make lo-fi electronic music. but arcade nostalgia is the last thing the castles want to reference. 

“we both hate video games. we were just breaking apart electronics and toys to get annoying sounds. aids wolf is going to annoy you with guitars; we’re going to annoy you with the insides of old electronics. it’s circuit-bending, basically. you can get sounds out of any electronic device by opening it up and poking around. you can open up your watch, if it makes a blip, you can sample it and then use it as a synth. a long time ago I collected a bunch of sounds. i just opened up everything I could and recorded it all. my favourite ‘instrument’ was a circuit board from the early 70s that was made to teach budding electricians. every time you fucked up a circuit, it’d make a blip, and that was my favourite." - kath 

even if the similarity was unintentional, you can’t help but associate that 8-bit sound with 80s arcade machines. the fact that crystal castles is also the name of a vintage video game doesn’t help, even if the band is actually named after the home of cartoon vixen she-ra, princess of power. understandably, they might not want their career described as a series of unlikely flukes and happy musical accidents. but as much as they claim they sound exactly as they planned, they’ve still “accidentally” managed to succeed in areas they care little about or were even unaware of. electro-house heavyweights justice and myspace brat-rapper uffie show up to see them in paris, which doesn’t quite make sense for a band that wants to be aids wolf beating up new order. then again, as alice’s absence clearly demonstrates, crystal castles don’t really give a shit what we think and probably love that the rest of us find it hard to make sense of their success.

but then he sees a 6'5 guy in a spiderman cosplay- not just a cheap costume, one that actually has semi-working web shooters and moving eyes and other details like that- and jack falls in love. like legitimately falls head over heels for this dude. bc he may not be a fanboy but Fuck he really likes superheroes and hot guys. and it becomes his mission to 1) see him without the mask and 2) get his number (if he's gay).

but plans don't always work.

jack manages to get a picture with him under the guise of showing his little brother back home, and they start talking a little afterwards so the guy pulls the mask up above his nose and mouth, but everything else is still hidden. jack swoons so hard he can barely talk. it's not his fault this God of a man is really hot and also funny and nice

they do have to go their separate ways, though, after some pretty heavy flirting- No Name Spider-Man had to go find his friend, who jack knows is named "Kath" because she called him and he said her name. it sucks for jack bc jack was super into the flirting and he felt like they were getting somewhere, too. but Spider-Man has to rush away and that's the last time jack sees him.

until! he gets to the hotel room that night and all he can talk about is the Spider-Man guy. race is sick of it so he posts the photo on Twitter with the caption:

hey if you were spidey at the con today and you have a bestie named kath: my brother thinks you're really hot. dm so he'll shut tf up

and what started as a harmless little tweet goes semi-viral with everyone trying to find this guy. kath sees the tweet, sends it to davey, and davey makes an entirely new Twitter just to talk to jack: but he still won't take off the spidey mask.

thus begins their flirting. davey remains anonymous and jack remains falling head over heels for this dude who's face he doesn't know. he eventually learns that his name is David, eventually learns he lives in Manhattan, eventually learns that they even go to the same university. this carries on for weeks; they flirt and talk about anything and everything, from how their day is going to what their weekend plans are to their deepest darkest secrets shared over Twitter DMs at three in the morning. they get really close, but the mystery is still there: who is David? jack can't find his main account, and they only talk on the Spider-Man account David made for that original message.

it's by random chance that jack stumbles into a little hole-in-the-wall café off campus where his barista sounds eerily similar to spidey from the con/spidey from voice memos on twitter.

barista boy sure is smiling at him a lot. barista boy has a spidey tattoo behind his ear. barista boy's name tag says David on it.

jack pauses his order. he puts two and two together.

"...Found you. Hi, Davey."

"Hi, Jackie. I don't know whether or not I should be creeped out or flattered."

"Wh-- Oh, no, I wasn't- I didn't, like, stalk you or anything, I'm so--"

"How about you make it up to me by taking me out to dinner?"

Summary: Sometimes keeping secrets can be dangerous or a heavy burden, which is what Kathleen has been doing for years. Kathleen sighed, she felt like when she was a kid and her parents took her to "secret work meetings"; which most of the time were meetings with other mutants and they let her play with the other kids, very few times they were projects, but they still let her hang out with the other kids there; now they were outside Doctor Henry "Hank" Pym's house waiting for him to open the door for them.

It had been a while since she had seen that family, she vaguely remembered Hope, sometimes she took care of her when her parents worked together, when Pym opened the door it was hard for her to recognize him, he looked older than she remembered.

“ Why did you ask me to come, Doctor Pym? My dad just told me you needed my powers," she asked curiously, she didn't know anything about the quantum world, so she didn't think it could be useful.

“I need you to go to this man's audience and read his mind, he may need it in the future," asked the old man as he handed her a folder with some information.

“Scott Lang? Doesn't look like someone important, Hank," Nozomu remarked, peeking out to see what his daughter was reading.

“That's why I need your daughter’s help, I'm sure she will know how to evaluate if she is competent or not, you yourself have told me the things that could happen," Pym explained.

Then she agreed, in a week it was Scott's hearing, she would improvise something to escape.

“I never understood why several people complained about Dr Pym if he is nice," she said to her parents when they left.

He smiled, sometimes she was still so innocent, even after all she had been through.

Meanwhile, at the S.H.I.E.L.D.'s gym, the training for that day had already started, Steve was worried because Kath didn't show up, he sent messages to her cell phone with some work, since he wasn't used to using the device yet, but he didn't receive any answer.

Forty-five minutes later Fury entered the place, it was rare to see him around, and with his only good eye, he looked for her without finding him.

“Captain Rogers, Commander Rumlow “he called them, and they approached”. Where is agent Anzai? “asked the director.

“Agent Anzai asked permission to leave because she was feeling sick," Brock informed, Steve looked at him astonished, he did not understand why she had not told him.

“ Did she feel sick or did you two make her sick? “Fury stared at the Commander. Rumors run fast in the corridors “he left before the pair could react and say something.

Kath was just entering her house when she received a message from Brock telling her that Fury had been looking for her, she also saw the one from Steve; internally she was glad that Brock had given a credible excuse, but now she would have to manage to avoid Steve's interrogation.

He went in to take a bath to relax, it worked so well that he didn't notice when Steve arrived, nor when he called her, the fact that he hadn't received any answer upset and worried him that he started to look for her in all the rooms, many things had gone through his mind since she was unconscious somewhere in the house until she had been kidnapped, without thinking about it he entered the only place that was needed; When she heard the door open abruptly, Kath woke up startled, she had fallen asleep in the bathtub, she looked up to see who had entered and screamed loudly when she saw Steve in front of her, he immediately turned completely red when he saw her naked and she pulled a towel trying to cover herself.

“I'm s-sorry... i-it w-wasn't my i-intention... I thought something bad had happened to me... R-Rumlow said you were feeling bad," she tried to apologize as she walked towards the door with her eyes closed.

“Steve, watch out, the... wall... “she warned him at the exact moment when the supersoldier crashed into the wall.

After he left the bathroom, she turned to see herself in the mirror, she was completely red, she had never been so embarrassed with him, although internally she had been amused, she could even say that she liked him seeing her, did Steve like seeing her like that, she shook her head vigorously to clear those thoughts from her mind, she had to get dressed quickly and go to apologize to him.

“Steve," she called to him in a sweet voice, he didn't dare to look at her, "I'm sorry for what happened a few moments ago," she felt nervous.

It was a bad day for Blink. His classes were killing him and Mush was out sick. He went to get his lunch and it wasn't much, the school had crappy food anyways so he got his usual of cereal, a bag of plain chips, milk, yogurt, a bag of apple slices, and a fruit roll-up. All on a stupid little blue tray.

It usually got him full until after school but right now he was heavily missing the food Mush would bring him. Blink wanted to punch the stupid sickness that took Mush away from him today.

Walking along the path to the big shady tree they all usually sat under Blink was actually gonna jump off a cliff. No one was there. He sighed hard and took out his phone seeing a few messages on the group chat saying a few of them had to stay in class a bit longer to finish a lab. The rest didn't reply given they didn't have lunch yet.

Blink threw his phone on the ground and just began to eat his cereal because for heaven for bid he starved himself today.

Looking around while eating he noticed Sarah coming towards him. He never really talked to Sarah, she mostly hung around Katherine but would once in awhile come to sit with them.

Sarah then took an earbuds out and said "Hey Blink," with a soft smile. She had black skinny jeans on with a belt tilted to the side and her shirt was one of her many band-tees.

Blink could only wave as he had food in his mouth.

"Have you've seen David?" She asked while fixing her bag on her shoulder.

"No, he's probably with cowboy in a bathroom stall." Blink scoffs at the thought.

"Damn him!" Sarah huffs and sits down next to him. "He said he needed some ibuprofen at lunch and he's not even here."

Blink opens the bag of apple slices and smriks, "Yeah well that's what you get when he's with cowboy."

Sarah rolled her eyes and took out her other earbud pausing her music. "You all alone today?"

Blink only sighs and offers one of the apple slices. Sarah takes it without a word and both were happy it wasn't an old pack of apples.

"Yeah Mush is out sick and everyone else is held up in their last class. Where's Kath?" Blink gave her the other half of the cereal seeing as she had nothing on her.

Sarah scooted back to lean on the tree taking the small box from him. "Oh she had to finish something in English."

"I guess it's just us today then huh?" He shot her a smile

She nodded with a grin as she began to eat.

They sat in a comfortable silence sharing the bag of cips and yogurt thanks to Blink accidentally grabbing two spoons. Blink even shared his desert of the fruit roll up.

With 10 minutes left, Sarah took out her phone and offered an ear bud to Blink.

"It helps me relax." She stated sensing that Blink could use something.

Blink sat next to her and she played a new track. It was definitely new and different. There were rough edges, sounds and feelings he didn't know that could come from a song.

He wanted more. So much more that he asked Sarah to send him that playlist. Sarah was more than happy to give him it.

Now he listens to it all the time, even on different albums from each band. When asked about it he'll get defensive only to be shocked that people were just really asking what he was listing to.

Thus started a friendship of emotions.

They share information on each band to one another

Sometimes Blink finds new bands Sarah never heard of

Sarah will invite Blink over to help with homework then after they finish they have their own concert usually getting told to turn it down

David has multiple videos of them dancing/singing. Sarah has made sure those won't get out

Mush and David now question these two

On days where no one is there Blink will find Sarah (or vise versea) and they share the lunch and listen to music

They have small debates on what song/album/band is better

Usually ends up in a small pillow fight

They were lucky to see five of their favorite bands in concerts

Also they talk out their issues to one another

Blink cried one time listing to a song making Sarah do the same because why did it hit so hard

They go on little hot topic dates <3 with Starbucks

Do you ever worry about copyright infringement when using someone’s photos for your caption posts?

I don't worry about it. For one, I do not make any money from these captions. It is just a hobby ("for education and entertainment purposes") that falls vaguely under the fair use act.

These are random pictures from Tumblr. If someone comments or message me the model's name, I tag the post for their recognition.

I have only been asked a few times to remove posts, and I have complied. Several times I have asked permission to use the pictures. Sometimes they ignore me, but I have had rather positive responses from others... Kath Harmon (DeepGlitterWitch) even reblogged some of the ones that I made, before her blog was taken down.
