i've been dying for a poll option ever since i saw my followers' answers to that text post from february 2022 asking people whether they pronounce beloved as "be-lov-ed" or "be-loved". many people were emphatic about only using one option, and many others use both but were not always able to articulate when they use 2 syllables vs. 3. so out of the goodness of my heart and my insatiable lust for knowledge i have gone through the notes on that post and written down some likely contenders! you're welcome!!!!

the thing is that the reason why narrachara is good is because of how well it gels with the themes of the game and it makes the narrative better imo. because otherwise we have a character that is just basically evil. sure there's like nuance there, chara is clearly a deeply troubled kid no matter what like not many 8-13 year olds are going to profess a hatred of humanity. but even still we get asriel going that chara was a bad person and then we get the ending of the no mercy route and a few other little bits to make sense of this character. and its like well i guess chara is just mostly a terrible person, perhaps because of their trauma, and there isn't anything else to say. sometimes they are in some part, involved in the genocide of all monsters (which seems deeply disconnected to their love of monsters and hatred of humanity) but whatever. and that's soooooo lame like fucking asgore is someone who cares and is kind-hearted at the end of the day and he's still a child murderer. like undyne goes to incredible lengths to murder you even on a completely pacifistic run right but we all see more sides to these characters that make them more complex than people who want to murder children hell wethe whole fucking point is to befriend them and feel for them so like there being a character in the game which whom that is just impossible with feels dumb.

lol No. If Issun were human-sized he'd, max, come up to Waka's bellybutton. The Poncles utilise the child character model in Okami, which suggests they're not exactly tall, probably maxing out at around the height of the average 8 to 10-year-old if they were human-sized.

Poncles are Sprites, Sprites are Fae, and Fae aren't typically very large creatures.

Issun's Fae stature aside, I feel like Waka would be much taller than the average human anyway, just based on the fact he's a member of the Moon Tribe. Gravity sucks less on the moon, so they'd probably get taller up there lol

Is it just me or was the climax of CU Book 8 pretty underwhelming? While I think it’s very sweet of George and Harold’s grandparents to defend them from the PPU gang, I feel like there was a real missed opportunity to have an epic Underpants vs. Blunderpants showdown, good vs. evil and all that. Or alternatively, they could have played it for laughs like what happened with Pandernuts in the series. Instead, Cap/Krupp was hardly in this one at all.

However, like I said, we get something like that in the CU series so I guess I can’t complain.

So Milo. You may know him by the times I am insane about him in the tags of unrelated posts. I am now going to do that some more :)

Milo is a character who is just... so impossible. He is inherently conflicting. Everything he is, he is also the opposite. He is his own juxtaposition in nearly every aspect. This pervades fucking everything but I'm going to go more into one in particular: his thematic relationship to the moons.

I'm now realizing this makes me sound like an insane person. You gotta give me the benefit of the doubt.

One more thought before I get into that: Milo is actually most heavily associated with the sun. He's the Sun character, you know. Light and warmth and familiarity and family and safety. He is all of those things, particularly in how he is. Externally. He conjures all of these from the people he interacts with. But there's more to a person than what you see- there's some of that juxtaposition again.

The moons (two of them because it's fantasy how could i resist, even if there didn't have to be two for...lore purposes) have a certain amount of in-universe weight to them. They carry stories that are used however is most convenient for the one telling the story. Milo's problem, for a while, is who is telling the story.

Early on, the moons are... well they feel like a threat. They are eyes on him. They are mocking, soliciting, watching. Aware. Like a friend who's a bad influence trying to get you to do something you know will end poorly. Except he can't just say no and they know it. Hands in his and horns interlocked, they are constant in a way that feels far too visible, at a time when he revolves around remaining hidden.

But then this shift occurs. It takes place so slowly you couldn't tell as it happens, but that threat fades away. They are still constant and watching and knowing, but that eventually stops being as dangerous and starts being more of an understanding. Visibility is still a threat more often than not, but the unrest doesn't come from them, then. It's externalized.

This just means that the way HE thinks about the moons, and with it, the way they're referred to in the story*, undergoes this gradual change. He resents them, early on, turns away from them, doesn't meet their eye, hides from them. They're cruel and he despises their effect on him. And then eventually none of that is true. He no longer resents them, he appreciates their company, their ever-present hand. It never stops feeling like a secret, but he stops hating them, instead accepting their role and with it, his own. The way they are presented goes from being seeped in ugliness and resentment, to being seen with less bias. He looks at the moons, then, how you or I may. They're just moons. It's always a little bit more than that, but he finally can separate the fact from the stories, something he never could do before.

*I mean like. In The Story. Not the in-universe storytelling. lore. bullshit. Like straight up just Writing. Is this comprehensible.

Ranking New Vegas companions by their alcohol tolerance

Arcade - 6/10: Hear me out, Arcade is a fairly big guy and between his genetics and the work he does, he’s bound to have some weight behind him. Do I think he’s going toe to toe with the average Wrangler patron? No, but I do think you could sit him down with a bottle of wine and by the end he’d be juuuuust tipsy enough to follow you into that Nightstalker cave with minimal complaints.

Boone - 4/10: Despite being a miserable boot boy with a dead wife, I think Boone is on the lower end of alcohol tolerance solely because he’s a sniper; I feel as though the job description means that you can’t exactly be swaying with your shots, so his tolerance would be piss poor. You could probably get him to drink a 12 pack with you, but just watch out: he might start showing a human emotion, and that’ll be uncomfortable for both of you.

Cass - 8/10: There’s something to be said about the fact that you need at least 8 Endurance to be able to beat her at the drinking contest to recruit her. Obviously she can hold her liquor, but I WILL dock points for being sloppy about it. (Girl how did you manage to wake up with a random soldier after the battle??? Don’t you know what your mailman looks like???) Share the whiskey but make sure you loop her belt around a pipe or something so she doesn’t run off.

Veronica - 3/10: I love Veronica. I love her so much. I don’t think she can hold her liquor to save her life. I think Ronnie is a ‘3 drinks and she’s out’ kind of girl. That being said, I also think that she could probably get through most of a box of hard seltzers before she starts feeling it, and I think she’d shotgun them with her Power Fist to be funny.

Raul - 10/10: He’s a ghoul, he’s old, and he’s miserable 95% of the time. I think if you handed him a bottle of Dubious Liquid he wouldn’t even hesitate to drink it. I think he’s drank rubbing alcohol just to see what would happen. I think if you give him a totally intact, unopened, top shelf bottle of tequila, he’d have to excuse himself to the other room for a minute. Definitely the one I’d want to go drinking with.

Lily - 15/10: Mamaw’s 7 feet tall and 500 pounds of sheer muscle with a super mutant metabolism, I don’t even think conventional liquor would affect her tbh. I think she’s drinking that Jacobstown Moonshine that melts spoons and eats through glass. I think she could drink a can of turpentine and it would be like a White Claw. Go grandma, but for the love of god not to the bar. I do NOT have the caps for that.

Rex - 6/10: Okay hear me out (again). He’s an old as hell cyber dog who went through multiple owners, he’s probably got more metal than organs, and the last guys who had him were Elvis impersonators who do fuckall all day but day drink and watch each other do cabaret. You look me in the face and tell me that dog hasn’t had more booze pass through his system than the average wastelander. It’s still only a 6/10 because he shouldn’t be getting it, but are you gonna tell him no? Look at that face. And lower your glass.
