Who’s the cuddler? Twelve is very embrace averse in the canon, and I think so is Simmy. However, the Master is willing to make sacrifices to annoy the Doctor, so he keeps plopping himself on his lap like it's free real estate. Essentially, Twelve likes his personal space and Simm also likes Twelve's personal space 🙃

Who makes the bed? The Master is a bit pedantic in this area, but after he made the bed a couple of times Nardole thanked him for sparing him this work, so obviously the Master got very pissed and started going against his bed making instincts. Especially given that Twelve only now found out Nardole has been making the bed all this time rather than it spontaneously rearranging itself against the law of increasing entropy and was very happy the Master would do such a selflessly kind thing. So now the bed is a permanent mess and Bill got popcorn for the daily tense stand offs over it

Who wakes up first? Whenever the Master actually wastes his time on such a trivial activity he gets awoken by Beethoven blasting on a guitar. Needless to say, the TARDIS had to start producing a supply of guitars after each meets its gruesome end in a hydraulic press

Who has the weird taste in music? The Master took up the reverse of the Doctor playing classical music on an electric guitar, so now he's mostly into a string quartet cover of I can't decide and Carmina Burana version of Waterloo

Who is more protective? Twelve is not very happy about it, but still feels obliged to end up with a very pissed wet cat version of Simm fished out of Sea Devils' contraptions

Who sings in the shower? The Master, very loudly and purposefully wasting his actually good voice. Given the TARDIS is not very fond of this regeneration, she takes the opprtunity to turn on only hot or only cold water, which results in the Master singing even louder in definace of blisters and coldbite

Who cries during movies? The Doctor allows himself a few somber tears while watching highbrow gangster dramas that are actually cinematic poems about how an individual with every potential to be a decent person becomes a monster and loses everything, betrayals and broken childhood friendships, but also capactiy for last minute redemption (think The Godfather, Once upon a time in America or Angels with dirty faces). And then ruins everything including Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone soundtracks by commenting on them in a very passionate and grandiloquent way that all the same would fit well a sunday school sermon. The Master can later be found performatively bawling his eyes out at the episode in which teletubbies couldn't make the tubby custard machine work so they sang a special song (lyrics of tubby custard, tubby custard, tubby custard (...) tubby custard) to fix it

Who spends the most while out shopping? They're both absolute absolute disasters shopping, but mostly for cosmetics. Twelve spends hours browsing thorugh hair-floofing products while Simmy needs to scrutinize every beard trimming device and test them on other customers' dogs. The one time they went shopping together each made the other wait with the bags outside and started manipulating the timeflow so the torture can last longer

Who kisses more roughly? Again, Twelve isn't very touchable, so Simmy kisses him Bugs Bunny style whenever he drops his guard for a second

Who is more dominant? Twelve is a bit too tired for that, while Simmy flaunts every triumph like making him carry more bags from the disaster shopping trip or seeing his selection of pizza toppings placed on top of Twelve's

My rating of the ship from 1-10. I really wish we had more of their interactions, because I kind of see them turning every domestic detail into an intense battle of wills. Also, Twelve is just more fun to annoy than self-flagellating Ten. Solid 8 ❤️

I see your point, but I raise you this:

Motivational aspects aside (pillow princess vs active participant) one can make the arguement that Leona does not have as much experience as he wants us to believe.

Sure, he presents totally ruggedly gorgeous and insinuates superiority, but. Crucially, acquiring experience in the explicit department requires getting off your ass and engaging with other people to the extent that said engagement leads to such activities. Yet here we have Leona, who actively avoids engaging with people and, among other things, believes the majority of those people either look down on him or want to use him for their own agenda.

So we must ask ourselves: do we really believe that Leona has put enough effort in pursuing engagements with other people to the end that he has become experienced in explicit activties? Especially when he doesn't care about the other party he's engaging with, as he assumes their interest in him has a hidden motive? Would the effort and potential scandal be worth it, to him, to go thorugh the motions of convincing some noble to spend an hour intimately with him, full well knowing that they see him as a stepping stone to get to his brother?

A counter point conclusion: yes, perhaps Leona could become a switch with time and with the right person, but. At the moment? I don't believe he quite has the experience yet, your honor. Thus, while he desparately wants to show his beloved MC that same suave confidence in bed, he also doesn't quite know what he's doing, and is likely still wrapping his head around that fact that he even managed to get this far in the first place. As such, at least for their first time together, I raise you bratty (but very much an active participant) sub Leona who tries his best to get the upper hand, because he truly is a fast learner after all.

Canon Leona aside, there are certain parts I have to bite my tongue about (at least in regards to this specific Monster's Version of him), because there are some things in here that will definitely get brought up in Part 4, there's going to be [REDACTED] and lots of [REDACTED] regarding [REDACTED], and I'm having a lot of fun coming up with all the nitty gritty bits of it and how all of these things play into the politics of said noble creatures who may or may not live for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. So for now I have to force myself not to get sucked into excited ramblings, because it has to stay a secret!

i wanna tell everyone why i got on tumblr because i can and i want to

so i got on tumblr because of byler during august. i started shipping byler during july.

i was kinda late to the stranger things party and i didnt actually watch it until may of 2022, but funny enough, it WASNT because of season 4 at all actually. my friend just really really wanted me to watch it because she thought id like it. she was riiiiiggghhthttttt.

yeah lmfao i didnt watch stranger things cause there was so much hype around season 4, i watched it because i wanted something gay to watch cause my heart stopper hyperfixation had just gone away and i still needed something gay to watch. i dm my friend saying "hey, do you have anything gay to watch because i need to watch something gay" and she gave me a list and was like "richie from IT is gay" and "will from stranger things is gay" and of course MY brain translated this to "mike is gay" because of notions from before hand i had about this little known to me character mike and also the fact that i knew that finn wolfhard played richie so i mistook will for mike because i was thinking the FCU and- yeah

so yeah i watched stranger things because a) my frined really wanted me to and b) the knowlege that mike was gay and thats what pushed me

anyways to safe to say i was THOROUGHLY confused when they started pulling the mike and el narraitve cause i LEGITEMATELY just thought it was straight canon like genuinelly- i had already imagined what i thougt the coming out scene would be like for him- LMFOAOOOO

anyways back on track- so then mike and el kissed and ill admit i was a lil disappointed but i was like fuck it ig theyre cute and then proceeded to be BLINDEDDDDDD by comp het. twas a very sad three next seasons for me in retrospect 😔

yeah so then i started paying more attention to the byler posts on my pinterest page and i started reading theroies, all of which were tumblr screen shots and i started really convinceing myself- still was on the fence but-

the one post, and one of the first posts that i read. and the post that conviced me was "Why I no longer think Mike Wheeler is Bi, but Gay" yk the iconic post from @kaypeace21? yeah so i read that and was like "fuck im convinced" and then i proceeded to read the entirety of the byler slides over the course of a 3 day period and fully fully convinced myself

and yeah i kept looking at theories on pinterest screen shotted from tumblr and yk byler was my everything (and still very much is) and i loved pinterest and spent all of my time on there and- 💀 i read- i read w- wh- wattpad fics 💀😟 BUT ITS OKAY because i actually found a pretty good collection of one shots on there but- nah man after one specific fic i found i had to call it quits cause i couldnt handle it anymore 💀💀💀💀

and then i found one poster on pinterest that would just do daily updates on the byler tag on tumblr and eventuallyyyyyy i decided tumblr looked really fun and i was tired of just watching afar tired of WAVING FROM A WINDOW WOOOOAAHHHOWOWAHHHOOOHHH

yeah so i decided enough was enough and i wanted to be directly at the source and part of the action

Rambling about Fairies - Rhodonite Chapter 7

I’m actually surprised by the direction this story took, because this is a plot I actually wanted to see in canon. 

The power of friendship wins a lot of fights for Team Natsu, but for the side characters, they always end up relying on the main crew’s luck to come thorugh while they remain ‘useless’ and ‘needing to be saved’, and this was most prominent in the seven year timeskip. 

Canon continued emphasizing in GMG how our main guild members are so cool and they will get justice for us, but it does make me feel sorry for characters like Max, Laki, Macao, who tried so hard to keep the guild together only to be proven that they’re worthless on their own and still need to be helped in the end. 

I guess Lucy had some of this plot in her character arc as well, but like, I’ve mentioned before, she didn’t really ‘confront and overcome it’, she just got stronger and the problem disappeared without being addressed. Being weak is still a bad thing, so the solution? Just try harder and get stronger! Yeah just slap me in the face it would feel like less of an insult, thanks.

I do wonder how a story like that could be done in canon without just ‘letting the guild members have some fights to shine and then done, that’s all the screentime for the next two years of serialization’ (Aldoron arc in 100yq).

Will thorugh the chapters up until 6

Like everything I do I'm gonna take a thon of creative liberty and roll with it XD

Chapter 1

Will just got in, clothes are oversized, probably borrowed from Crowley or a "lost and found" kinda deal, they do not maintain their apearence that well but still dueling on the why are they here, for they do remember someone calling for them...

Chapter 2

Appearance, at least the clothes, are more well maintain, they acknowledge that Overblots might not be as uncommon as Crowley said or there's something going on, still rather lost and confused tbh

Chapter 3

Found better fitting clothes in the dorm, starting to get stressed with the trio shenanigans and no news about getting home

Chapter 4

Got a haircut right after 3, starting to research overblots bc 3 times is too many not to get a pattern, getting intrigued by the world of twisted in itself

Chapter 5

Losing hope to ever get home, but most importantly if they ever want to get back... and if staying is even an option, mostly contemplating themself and what they want... even if it's nothing

Chapter 6

Finaly getting something in overblots, stress is at 99% , and I'll what more once I finish watching this chapter

Since the game and the manga have some differences in how some bits of the story goes bc of the protagonists and bc this is basicaly fanfic I can and will chose to bend the plot and story to fit my tastes better so-

In Will's case I imagined them knowing the great seven as the Disney villains but preferring to stay quiet, at chapter 2 catching on the "parallel" plots and staying more active , however they don't know every plot bit by bit since it's been quite a while since they watched the movies

(This is mostly bc I suspect Mickey is gonna be a God ex machine to help us at the end to get home. Something I don't plan on doing so I can scrap the "mirror dreams" in Wills story)

The boys flashbacks seems to be a thing only the player can see and no other character, but I wanna milk in the "unpaid therapist" joke, so Will can have this side effect of the overblots, when getting too close to them Will forms a little conection with the memories of the blot-host, wich causes them to see the memories that are the root of this pain the boy of the week is feeling

Something I don't use often, but was here from the start is Will's theory brain, literally trying to understand and speculate the overblots and what is going on in this schools. Depending on the end I'll just throw 737362headcanons and make my own lore about overblots and what is going on with Crowley, or ignore canon and do that anyway, or the rarer option to go with canon with minor alterations but who knows

Honestly that last reason is the biggest to why I'm not diving in Will's involvement with the plot yet, bc I realy wanna know if they are gonna explain what is going on with Crowley or at least how the overblots work. I don't have much hope that they would explain it, pr if they do it's gonna go pass the "magic" and "coincidence". I don't realy care much h for plot consistency with "aus" like this one but I still wanna see if they come up with something cool before saing and taking the chance to write something to this

first of all i want to say i absolutely love i'm looking thorugh you and i'm excited for the next chapter. now on an unrelated note i want to ask have you seen sarah z's new video on fanfiction? if you have, what do you think?

Hi anon, thank you so much!!! My exams are starting in 10 days and in 5 days I'll be seeing my sister for the first time in one and a half years, so I'm gonna really try to find space to finish up Chapter 8 very soon (perhaps today [not including editing time, but everything currently written has been gone through once already]) so that I can justifiably step away from it again to focus on my exams and spending time with her, before returning to it. (which probably won't be before September)

I hadn't seen it and haven't watched any of her videos in a while, but I did upon seeing this ask. (I find her long-winded and generally she doesn't say much I haven't thought of myself; watched it on double speed lmao)

I agree with her on most points, I think. Fanfic is clearly art, I think that's honestly a stupid thing to even debate about. Also, it's first and foremost a medium with intrinsic qualities that can be either used to the story's advantage or disadvantage.

While there's value in original fiction having to rise up to the challenge of building characters and setting from scratch, a narrative meant to be understood with foreknowledge of "canon" can actually inherently tell a different type of story. Like, it's kind of one of the points I'm trying to make with I'm Looking Through You; demonstrating how the story both parallels and diverges from what actually happened, which would be difficult to do in a satisfying and engaging way if I had to establish the first "timeline" within the story as well, if that makes sense.

That being said, I think Beatles RPF (the kind that doesn't take place in AUs) is sort of interesting in that respect: if you're writing fic for a book series or a movie franchise or what have you, in most cases you can expect the reader to have come across the entire canon (say with the exception of monster franchises like Discworld or the Star Wars EU). But in the case of a story based on a real history, which draws from many books and accounts as well as pictures and film, it's kind of difficult for me as an author to suss out what I can reasonably expect my readers to be aware of. Usually, when I tie in some recollection of a real event (example off the top of my head: I mention Paul getting Dot Rhone pregnant in chapter 3) I try to formulate it in a way that if someone wasn't previously privy to that particular fact it would still be understandable to the extent it's relevant to the story. The only thing I in general assume to be known is their discography. So in a way, the concept of fanfic not requiring any skills in establishing anything isn't quite accurate. I'm also kind of a big show don't tell truther, so I kind of think if you follow that principle perfectly (not saying I do btw, it's pretty difficult) with your characters, you're more or less doing the same thing whether the characters are known to the audience already or not.

I think the main thing about fanfic and the perceived poor quality of it is due to, as mentioned in the video, there being zero barriers of entry but also to the fact that constructive criticism is just not really welcome on fanfic sharing platforms. For better or for worse, in 90% of the cases, people are only gonna comment on a fic to praise it. I think that's fine in the sense that most people aren't aspiring professional writers, but it doesn't make for the best environment to improve and grow as a writer more than simply practicing the art would help anyways. If you're lucky, someone will specify the reasons they enjoy the story, but just like we can't expect everyone to write perfectly, we can even less expect all readers to spend half an hour writing a carefully worded review. I kind of wish there was a setting on ao3 where you could mark a fic as "open to criticism", so people who are just writing for themselves can just keep doing their thing unbothered, but people interested in honing their craft could get more nuanced feedback than "OHHHH MY GOOOOOD I LOVE THIS".

The kind of funny thing for me is that all original fiction I've written or attempted to write up until now was very much based around my own personal experiences, so writing from the perspective of men in the 60s who had insanely different lives from mine actually really forced me out of my comfort zone in a way? And the work I put into the historical research is considerable, so I just think that really doesn't match up with what fanfic-haters imagine the genre to be?

Of course, a bunch of stories do match up with antis' expectations of it, but alas that's not fanfiction as a medium's fault and there's nothing inherently wrong with stories written with their main purpose being escapism. I mostly think people should be aware that that's what they're consuming and if that's the only thing they consume, they might be missing out on more challenging ideas.

Ooo, so based on the last anon… how would you write Shoto reaching out to Touya then? Would you want Natsuo/Fuyumi/Rei involved? Or just Shoto doing it himself to reach out to the brother he never got to know and start a relationship with?

Ideally, yes, all the Todorokis should come together to accept him back in the family. I think Dabi needs to be shown that his existence has meaning because he is loved. Not because he could've been useful to his father's agenda. The inherent worthiness of his life is not his exploitability as a tool, but his value as a person, as a human being. A beloved brother and son.

This was how I wrote it in my fic, anyway. I had Dabi reach what he thought was his ultimate goal (getting back at his father) and still be tormented by that emptiness and lack of purpose, because imho at his core what he actually craves in not revenge but recognition. An acknowledgement of his pain. And I had him reach that by making the Todofam truly see him and genuinely care for the individual he is, despite everything.

Now, if we're talking about canon, though, my answer will be different. The above is just how I'd write it if this were a regular ya piece of fiction. But it's a battle shounen, so I don't think all the Todorokis will have the same amount of focus and impact in Dabi's saving. Out of all of them, Shouto and Endvr are the only licensed heroes, and this conflict will def spiral into a fight before we can get to any talking or heart to heart, because that's just how the genre works. So of course those two will have the biggest role here. I'm assuming that Shouto will be the major player here simply because for all his retconning, Endvr simply lacks the ability to empathize with people. But Shouto has already been shown to see himself in his brother, so he'll very likely be the one to smash through Dabi's walls and actually get to him. I still think there will be at least a couple of panels / pages where the rest of the fam (particularly Natsu) will interact with Dabi post-rescue (whatever rescue will look like, but presumably not thorugh a glass wall in jail) bc they will need a narrative wrap up too. But I doubt Hori's gonma show the recovery process in as much detail as the battle side of the conflict

u know what im thinking about wrt to the complete turnabout tho is when kristoph is over and we move on to von karma. what will fransizka think? shes a lot older than she was in canon post von karma trial, and so shes probably more mature, but also shes gone more of her life w/o questioning her family and like. totally buying into the narrative mvk sells her. or has she? hmmm. ALso im thinking about miles and franziska in this universe. since his relationship with phoenix is. bad i would hazard to guess his relationship with fransizka is even worse and that makes me so sad like dont u guys know u are supposed to be siblings !!! >:( sorry im having Thoughts abt franziska on this day <3 i feel like ive definitely already said all this before. i dont care

I think that Franziska knows more about how messed up her father's methodology is than she usually lets on, but in the eventual 'phoenix and klav work to expose and take down von karma and his legacy', I think she ends up a bit pulled between them, especually in the sense of thinking that Phoenix didn't trust her enough to let her in on this (really, he's just trying to protect her).

Franziska and Miles haven't met much, but Franziska doesn't like Miles bc he's almost always angry at Phoenix, and Miles sees her as just part of the family that had completey destroyed someone who was once his best friend. So yeah, they don't like eachother even thorugh they're supposed to be siblings ;-; Also don't ever apologize about talking to me/asking about anything to do with complete turnabout, always makes my day :D

uhhh below is more thoughts about complete turnabout phoenix and franziska

So unlike miles, phoenix was sort of a rowdy and rambucious kid at first (you know, how kids tend to be) and in particular became this person who encouraged fran to try new things, do things against the rules, sneak around. However, he also ended up seeing the repercussions for these things, including physical abuse from von karma, sometimes from taking the fall for something that was actually fran's fault. Fran eventually saw it as her role to try and make sure that Phoenix didn't step too far out of line, reminding him what he's supposed to be, what perfection he can never reach - not being a true von karma - but still needs to try and strive for and display.

They end up with this sort of codependant concept of their own actions being directly responsible any sort of suffereing on the other, and while they manage to somewhat overcome it when Phoenix moves permanently to LA and Fran stays in Germany, they still worry about each other a lot.

The Legend of the Three Caballeros: Shangri-La-Di-Da and Sheldgoose Squaredance Reviews: The Last Ride (Comissoned by WeirdKev27)

SALUDOS AMGIOS.. THIS IS IT! The finale review of my retrospective on the Three Caballeros THE RIDE OF THE THREE CABLLEROS. It’s the final ride. While there will be, as i’ve said the last few time, a little epilogue to celebrate finishing this, as clocking in at 15 reviews, one best of list coming next week and covering a film, two sizeable comic book stories, and 18 episodes of television, this has been one of my largest projects and one of my proudest. But there will be time to look back next week. For now i’m amped up, excited about this series and excited to finish. So after the cut join me for one last full ride as our heroes face their final hour! 

Shangri-La-De-Da: Our penultimate adventure begins with the Cabs returning home after training with King Arthur, where they apparently got a years worth of training in a day.. because apparently Camelot is one giant hyperbolic time chamber. But the training’s paid off as our heroes are now at their most skilled and most powerful: As a result Jose skifully and perfectly cuts an orange in seconds, Panchito ropes an apple from a nearbye stand (and the owner’s really cool about it since Panchito gives him the money for it “Thanks magic rope!”) and Donald.. breaks everything but in a really impressive ways. Our heroes are at their best and ready to take on Feldrake when the time comes, while Ari and the Bear.. are hiding what happened last episode with the girls investigating. Hey can’t win em all. Meanwhile Sheldrake is leading Sheldgoose into the Manor.. after a few goofs on him running into the barrier because he’s a petty asshole. They decsend into the depths bellow leaving Leopold to guard. 

Back at the Cabana Donald just wants one more thing... Daisy. 

I’ve.. gone on about why he shouldn’t do this last time. He deserves better. Xandra is right there and while she’s treated him shabbily from time to time. it’s more human error versus... everything with Daisy just everything. This plot point has been nothing but pain and suffering for me and it’s not changing that track record in these last two episodes, though thankfully it’s barely in the finale, so my own track record of screaming about daisy in text form every time she shows up will also remain in tact. He does this because Xandra offered them a vacation so he won’t be distracted.. again why isn’t she the love intrest? I dunno maybe sh’es more into Jose.  And Daisy sucks on arrival, phrasing, as her response to Donald’s call wasn’t to just.. tell him no but to go to his place to clearly tell him no to his place saying “Let’s recap, you abandoned me in a bad part of town, spent our date in the bathroom all night in a hula skirt, then brainwashed my nieces into helping you trick me with a dummy”. Okay Daisy, you want to recap, you insufferable, pompus, selfish, self absorbed, overly demanding, overly haughty, golddigging rose colored shrew?

Let’s fucking recap: He left you in a bad part of town because he got FIRED from his job and found out his house burned down, something you REFUSED to let him explain. You found out about this and then proceded to berate him over dinner, saying he couldn’t possibly help people. While he did spend a while in the bathroom with a hula skirt nad never explained it the ONE point you have.. he LEFT to go help his friends, with you once again leaving instead of letting him come back and explain later or leaving but going to his place to hash this out or just dump him. THEN, something you CAREFULLY omitted, you moved on which is fine.. as a way to make him jealous, bringing the guy to his door to rub his beak in your new relationship with not a hint of shame,a nd ran off whie he was fighting for his life clearly. Now seeing things were more complicated, you asked NO follow up questions, imposed a date on him and while he did lie your nieces WERE NOT FUCKING BRAINWASHED. This was of their own free will you unbleivible she demon. You are so up your own ass you can’t even see the obvious. And then you came here JUST to say all this and be mean to Donald one more time. While Donald shoudln’t of called you up it’s not because of all that it’s because your a heartlress, selfish, shrivled husk of a person. You care about NO ONE but yourself, and that includes Donald. Fuck you and the horse you rode in on. 

So Xandra just zaps them away and says she’s perfect for Donald. 

Donald and Daisy end up in the himlayas.. cue the music. 

Why isn’t this game on Switch? Questions for later. Point is our heroes find a cave to duck in and a yeti.. who after clearing their throat reveals Xandra left them at the entrance for Shangri-La, and the inside is intorduced.. with a very lackluster musical number. A weak note for the songs to go out on but not bad, though Donald is pissed off because that’s his schtick here.. though credit where it’s do: Since I didn’t know everything and hadn’t finished it turns out his anger was delebrate.. but we’ll get to that and why it dosen’t work in a moment.  Back at the Cabana the boys fence with bread before Panchito gets a flash as Sheldgoose puts the first amulet into..some kind of melting pool... and the girls confirm what happened seconds later. Feldrake has the amulets, which were used to seal him last time as revealed in last episode, and is melting them into his own power. The final battle is nigh! So Xandra goes to fetch Donald.. and comes back as she CAN’T. Donald and Daisy signed a contract and they can’t leave till ALL their problems are solved. And given Donald is carried off after his anger issues not only are evident when, given a pillow representing his frustratoins he destroys it, but he DENIES having anger issues, he’s dragged off to some extreme thereapy.. i.e. a Self Reflecting reflecting pool that manifests his anger as a giant, sausgey, pissed off version of himself and he reacts as you’d expect and gets flattned.  Back at the Cabana, Xandra breaks the bad news.. and whie Jose TRIES to reassure them, his amulet is next to go so he gets a flash of it being destroyed and our heroes now have to scramble to take on Sheldgoose.. WITHOUT Donald.  Back at donald’s inner hulk.. man I love this fucking job, Donald is pounding away until his own flash breaks things for a moment.. and sends him into his own head. We’re then treated to an acid sequece, an homage to Donald’s surreal reverire from the original movie that while not as wild, is still gloriously bizzare. Donald rencounters the teapot ghost thing that’s apparently part of his psyche from the first episode that gets him to consider why his life is like this and he goes through a lot of moments of the first episodes.. conviently eddting out daisy’s questionable behavior and the fact some things had actual catalysits.  See the idea of Donald FACING his anger issues and growing from them is fine. But this has two faults. One, it assuems you can just.. cure anger issues. You can’t. Anger is a normal emotion and as someone with them I hope to generally work thorugh mine with a therapist.. but I know they just don’t magically go away and therapy is a process and your mental issues are lifelong things you have to grapple away. It’s not the MOST insulting treatment of emtoinal issues i’ve seen, as Total Drama you know had someone with MPD cured with a fucking button press, but it’s not great.  And the second is this was poorly set up. Donald was an angry asshole all series yes and it was an issue.. but it wasn’t really FRAMED as a character arc. Just Donald being donald. So while having that be the source of his issues is a good idea for a character arc for im it comes off sloppy and forced because it’s been treated more like a joke or a character trait and less like a SERIOUS issue or the problem with him and Daisy. Hell they put the whole Dapper duck thing in there when he was fine that episode and is rightfully angry about that if at the wrong person. This whole thing just feels rushed, forced and unsatsifying and is a hsame for such a good idea

The payoff is good though, as when Donald awakens and let’s his anger wash away.. he just stands as the anger donald tries to beat the crap out of him.. but can’t do anything to him since he’s calm. He’s fine, and he’s released.. and his shock collar is disabled. Good quick gag.  Meanwhile our heroes aren’t sure what to do despite having tons of magical items.. until they think what would donald do.. and he’d just at least try and thus corm a GIANT FUCKING MAGIC CANON OUT OF THEM. Very nice. They blow the doors off.. and through the back.. and into the money bin where we get a scrooge cameo. 

And he’s voiced by Eric Bauza.. which is sadly not great because it’s far from his best work and dosen’t even really attempt a scottish accent. 

But our heroes storm the gate.. after Xandra easily disposes of the dog guards.. who Sheldgosoe apparently raised to do this... still not entirely over that. They find the staircase and the triplets op to go back while the rest charge in and prepare to fight leopold. 

Back at the Cabana, Donald and Daisy return via tub and Donald, seeing the swirling vortex of darkness outside sheldgoose manor, tells daisy he has to go his friends need him it’s his destiny, gives her one hell of a kiss she dosen’t deserve.. oh and earlier he told her “Thanks for being patient with me” and she tells him it was worth the wait. Ha ha... I hope you get hit by a rusty tractor you unfathomable blight on duck kind. 

So part one ends with Donald heading for the treasure chamber to armor up. 

Sheldgoose Square Dance:  Part two begins with Sheldgoose putting the staff in place, and an egg emerging. Weird.. and as a result of that Leopold sense his ‘Daddy’ and leaves, and before the cabs can charge in donald shows up, now confident, at full strength and after tripping as you’d epxct, with the other cabs armor and in his. The guys suit up, and we get to see both jose’s.. amazing.. toned.. stomach. 

And Panchito’s big belly.. which I have one of those so we’re twinsies. And Xandra of course watches Jose change slyly. Eh i’ts a bit creepy but I can’t blame her for sneaking a peak as long as she didn’t linger. 

So our heroes are suited up, look awesome and have their trademark weapons Let’s fucking go!

Back at the ranch, the Nieces talk to daisy and having grabbed a weird document last time, are trying to piece it together. Daisy.. is suddenly really good with puzzles and helps them with it. They reform it and.. don’t really do much until after the danger has passed and I avoid another cornary yelling innterally at this unpleasant pile of hippo excrement. 

So while the Cabs dash to stop feldrake feldrake awakens.. as a demon baby. And Sheldgoose has about a minute of mockery before feldrake smacks him around with telekensis and agrees while his mind’s affected by his current state, he’s still fully aware and can talk and seeing the cabs are coming gives him a bit of power, i’d say about as much or a little more than what feldrake had as a staff, and sends him after the cabs. 

So we get one of the most awesome moments if not THE most awesome moment in the entire series as something from EVERY episode makes a come back as shelgoose, after trying some zaps, back in full robe and cloak, MAKES HIS OWN ZOOM POINT. Thus it becomes an utterly awesome back and forth as sheldgoose summons one thing from the past and xandra summons another to counter. And it avoids reptititon as the sheer sight of characters from each episode battling it out, and never knowing which ones next, keeps it intresting. 

In order: Sheldgoose summons the moon bots, Xandra summons the roman gods to hack them to pieces, after the boys get some shots in too. Sheldgoose blocks the way with lava lizards, the cabs respond with a goblin army who block the lava river and use a cat launcher against them, courtsey of king vomit. Sheldgosoe unleashes the tengu, the cabs unleash king arthur.. and we get the immortal line from donald “Thanks king arthur!”. Sheldgoose summons his ancestors, the cabs summon the ghost presidents! And in a call back that had me clapping Sheld summons the termintes.. and xandra summons THE MINOTAUR! And Sheldgoose thirsts over him. .huh.. so shledgosoe is bi good for him. And for a final distraction sheldgoose summons.. the dragon.. that was from the adventure they just had he had no way of knowing about. 

So with that out fo the way our heroes and villians both reach feldrake.. whose awakened and is.. this

Really.. weird , if still threanting, deisgn aside, Feldrake now at full power turns new quackmore into the psycadelic starry battlefield we saw in the intro to the series and thus the final battle begins. We see the fight from the start.. but it’s now even MORE beautiful and glorious with context. Before we saw three strangers, if ones we knew from other works fighting some evil we never met. Now we’ve seen our heroes grow, both as people, and as heroes, learning from every encounter, getting stronger with every fight and slowly getting noticably more compitent: going from falling all over themselves just to work a ship, to defeating dragons, tengu, and other horrors as a team. And we’ve seen jus thow petty and cruel feldrake is.. and how serious the stakes are and what our heroes tand to loose should they fail. It’s not perfect.. we could stand to loose daisy and new quackmore dosen’t mean much, though Sheldgoose gets to zap regina into a worm, but it’s still AWESOME and feels like a tremendous payoff and Donald’s predator bro fist thing with Panchito has more weight. Our heroes have risen to their peak and now they face one last obstacle to becoming legends.  The fight is fluid, awesome and gorgeously animated and utterly epic in every sense of the word and we catch up to their seeming defeat.. only for something we DIDN’T know about last time to help.. Xandra who gets htem out of the way. It’s a long and fantastic fight, with our heroes eventaully getting knocked over to a pool while Xandra tries her best to hold feldrake off, but is clearly wearing down despite doing her best. 

Yeah while itw as established Feldrake was melting down the amulets and we saw a pool of resdiual magic, so teh magical pool of stuff the cabs find them at WAS set up.. but what happens next remotely wasn’t. The cabs fall in and commuincate with blazebeak the creator of the amulets who embues them with their power. Where he came from, why he’s just showing up n ow.. I dunno, it comes off as a really badly setup deus ex machina.. but it still dosen’t hurt the finale that bad. A little yes, as everything else is so well paced and feels like so much payoff.. but the awesomeness of our heroes glowing with their signture colors, rushing in to save xandra and then ari, who swiped the rest of the magic goop, giving it to xandra to reivvie her.. overrides it. Sometiems somethings too stupid to be awesome.. and sometimes it’s so awesome it overides common sense. So yeah poorly set up yes.. still fucking awesome also yes. 

Our heroes tear feldrake apart and realize once they see the now empty staff floating in the void they can simply reseal him. Sheldgoose interupts it.. but the nieces arrive riding on humphrey and knock him inot a golden toilet... again I fucking love this job. Our heroes then try ghost bustering him back into the staff and SHeldgoose tries saving him by breaking it.  And it seemingly fails.. new quackmore is restored, Sheldrake’s gone and the town remembered EVERYTHING, cheering at their new heroes and saviors. Sheldgoose finds the staff gone and bemoans his lost master.. and soon looses his presidency as regina strips him of it. With his own powers gone Sheldgoose flees on Leopold, and while Regina tries to take the presdiency for herself.. the girls reveal the document explains if a sheldgoose is absent.. a coot takes his place. And since Donald is the only remaning coot apart from Della and she’s busy actually raising her kids in this continuity apparently, Donald is the new president. While Regina vows to beat him in an election.. our heroes are now happy, with the lawyer from the first episode backing Donald’s claim up. So Donald now has a new job, a new purpose in life, his girlfriend back, which is negiably a good thing, and a new family he dearly loves and tells them as much. Awww. Also he gets the mansion, which our heroes promptly plan to move into. Donald and Daisy fight, of fucking course, our heroes claim roms and Xandra and Jose share a moment. The series gets a truly satsifyign and happy ending.. and a sequel hook as it turns out feldrake is now in sheldgooses body and the tow are going ot have to share it as Sheldgoose has leopold take them to a house with legs.. so the baba yaga then. Sadly we’ll probably never see with this leads.. and this is the end. 

Final Thoughts on the finale two parter: While the first half is a bit weak in the yeti stuff, the rest of it is incredibly strong and Sheldgoose Square Danc,e while having the worst name of the series.. is easily it’s best episode, tying everythign together greatly and being one, tense and epic finale the whole way through. A true masterpiece and a clear sign the series would be even BETTER going forward had it actually been allowed to live and a true shame.. but even with the sequel hooks aside.. it’s still an utterly sastifying, joyous note to go out on and i’m GLAD I saved this one for last, as it provided a great capper for both the series and this retrospective. 

Final thoughts on Legend of the Three Cablleros:

This series.. was excellent. While at first I wasn’t sure it’s rep was warranted, as the first three episodes were good but had flaws and four and five were not great.. everything after that is sublime. The series has it’s flaws, the character devlopment is uneven, the characters can be made into caractures of themselves once in a while and the writing on Daisy is horrid and i’ve said enough on that to last me a lifetime and is easily the worst part of an otherwise fantastic show. But yeah.. as I said OTHERWISE fantastic, as while the daisy stuff is very bad, it’s for the most part in the background of a VERY good show with great voice acting, fun pacing, and beautiful animation.  It’s a loveletter to clasic disney animation, holding tons of mythology gags and refrences and having humphrey as a main character, but with unquie touches like letting the nieces have a starring roll and everything about xandra and sheldgoose. It’s a unique, wonderful and awesome addition to the disney animated canon and deserves a second season or some other sort of revivial. This was a wonderful note to go out on and I’m throughly glad I finally watched it.  So with this the Ride of the Three Cablleros is almost over.. but come back, let’s say next week, for one last party as we count down the top 12 cabs moments and celebrate these happy chappies in matching serapes one last time. Lost Prince and trapped Princess - Senku x Ruri

Today I would like to talk about a very special relationship which includes Senku and Ruri. Can we for a tiny bit of time forget about Senku x Gen, Senku x Kohaku and Chrome x Ruri? I will go back to that but can we forget about surroundings and focus on moments with Ruri and Senku? I think I found few interesting things about their relationship.

First of all - Ruri is REALLY romantic lady and she is only person who can points out with 100% accuracy ALL moments when Senku was being soft and nice to other people. Of course she isn’t only person who can notice that Senku is actually nice but many times people can mistake him being nice for having nasty hidden motive behind it.

First time Ruri heard about Senku was in 100th Tale. She thought it was very powerful and very kind story. That pretty much tells all about Senku because he is incredibly skilled while also very kind. Maybe not everyone noticed but Ruri was blushing while listening to this Tale. I’m willing to bet it is her favorite Tale. The fact that it was secret Tale only for priestess made it more special for her. Ruri also knew Senku isn’t fictional character but real person. He was presented in Tale like Prince which granted wishes and will come back in the future to save people. It was so many years ago and I don’t know if she believed Senku will come back during her lifetime but she probably believed he will come back someday. We all remember having crushes in princes and other fictional characters. (haha and it continues for me) What if Ruri actually had that type of crush in Senku? Girls really wish to meet their princes in real life. We know that Chrome in some ways is similar to Senku. What if one of reasons Ruri fall for Chrome was him fitting her image of Senku?

But going back to Ruri and Senku relationship after they met. Let me show you few moments when Ruri knew Senku is being soft or there is potential that Senku might get soft and Ruri knew how to organized space for that.

Ruri shared 100th story with most of the people after Senku showed up but she didn’t share all of it. She took Senku away from everyone knowing rest of the story is really personal. She thought only Senku should hear this private part. Ruri already knew Senku wouldn’t feel comfortable hearing this while standing in big group.

Ruri is really good in reading situation. Even if Senku created little lie she was able to read that he actually needed some alone time. She respected that and went back to the village. Ruri probably just felt in how much pain Senku is. After turning back there are already tears gathering in her eyes. Ruri is really empathic. This night both of them felt really vulnerable. 

Cotton Candy given to Homura was situation which not everyone was able to read Senku’s true reason. Even Gen who is mentalist sadly failed in noticing Senku being soft. Almost all the people took Senku’s joke as truth beside one person - Ruri.

Ruri saw right thorugh Senku being soft and just wanting to be nice to Homura because she was ordered to hang out in the forest alone so he wanted to give her reason to feel better. Ruri was also watching the moon probably remembering 100th Tale.

Ruri also gathered people to help with building observatory for Senku. He pretty much saved her life so of course she would be onboard in any plan about doing something nice for Senku.

Ruri wasn’t excited about heaing voices of founders of the village. She was more moved by idea of Senku getting chance to talk to his father even if he is no longer part of this world. She felt really happy for Senku.

To sum some things up about Ruri and Senku relationship I would like to share some ideas that could happen if some events were changed. We know Senku is too much of a Best Bro to let Chrome watch him being husband of love of his life so he divorced Ruri really fast. But I actually would like idea of Senku being Ruri’s husband for a bit longer time. Maybe to create some drama since it wouldn’t be nice for Chrome and Kohaku watch them be together while them having crushes on them. There could have been some awkward moments and possible wholesome moments between Senku and Ruri. They could have take divorce after long private talk about their true feelings. 

I believe Senku would take role of husband in serious and responsible way. He would be able to guarantee comfortable life for Ruri but the problem is that he would be honest about being unable to love her back in romantic way. He would act more like husband friend to her - hugs and sleeping in one bed would be fine but no kisses and sexual contact. He wouldn’t force her on him or himself on her. They would keep some distance.

But what if Ruri never fall for Chrome and kept her crush on Senku from 100th Tale? Would she fall for Senku? That’s very possible. She understands how nice person Senku is. Senku winning Ground Bout in that situation and saving her life? Ohh I think she would fall hard for Senku and she would be actually really happy to marry him. Of course Senku would still be this husband friend type even if Chrome wasn’t in love with Ruri. He still is interested in Science more and Ruri would respect that. I could see her spending time with Senku to bond with him over Science and 100 Tales and what they knew about the world. Maybe after some time Senku would actually develop feelings for her and they would become loving husband and wife. Senku isn’t mushy type but he was his ways of showing that he cares about other person and Ruri being really romantic lady would cherish every moment of that.

Of course my favorite Senku ship with girl is Senku x Kohaku because they spend more time together and they have really good dynamic and it’s possible that this ship will be canon by the end of story but if I could pick second best choice with saying big sorry to Chrome I would pick Senku x Ruri ship because of how special their relationship is and potential for this ship. Senku and Ruri would be story about lost Prince arriving to kingdom to save Princess stuck in one place because of bad spell slowly killing Princess.

How I feel about this character: I freaking love him, okay? My blue birb. I just want to give him love and ease the pain in his heart. He’s strong, kind, fierceful, protective, responsible and still he can tease and be playful. Child/teen Marco is freaking cute and a sassy little brat and I just loved him more. I wish we knew more about him. Like why and when he joined Whitebeard and what the heck happened in the payback war. Please give me more of Marco. Let his heart heal and let him be with his family. He doesn’t deserve all this pain.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:Quite a few, actually. The following below are my top ships for him, though I’m not saying they’re the only ones and that I am not oen to others.

Thatch - My OTP and I would drop anything in a heartbeat for this ship. Best friends falling in love and find peace in each other’s company. Sure they’ll fight - Thatch will not stop his teasing or pranking - but they will always make up and probably watch the sunset together

Ace - Hothead and anxietous boy with the calm and caring birb? Not only does their powers fit together, but Marco is perfect for Ace to learn that love is also for him and Marco will learn that he is also allowed to recieve love.

Shanks - This ship is more of testing each other’s limits and then comfort each other. Post-timeskip Shanks helps Marco thorugh the lost of Ace and Whitebeard. Shanks Have been thorugh the same grief of losing a captain and man he admired as a father, so he knows what Marco goes through.

Izo - A really rarepair indeed. Both are creative, likes peace and order, but also can control each other’s temper. They’re the a mature couple and are mostly together in the evening and nights.

Sabo and Ace - I love those three together. Lots of fluff, angst and sassiness is the recipe in this ship. Marco thinking he’s too old for thema nd Sabo and Ace thinking they don’t deserve him. And all the cuddles. A lot of it.

My non-romantic otp for this character:If I were to list all of them, it’ll be too long, so I’ll list those I love the most.

Haruta - Out of all the commanders, he’s Marco’s precious little brother and while the birb tries to treat all eqaully, he has a soft spot for Haruta. Except when he has pulled a prank on Marco.

Benn Beckman - Two second in command complaining over their stubborn captains. I like how similar they are and they bond over more than just their stubborn captains.

Deuce - The two doctors talking about medical theories and help each other with medical things.

Whitebeard - Father and son. There’s not much more to say. Marco will lie down his life for the man he with pride calls Oyaji and Whitebeard will protect his son.

Other commanders and rest of the crew - Siblings forever and it hurts Marco to not having been able to keep them safe or lead them properly as captain (post-timeskip).

My unpopular opinion about this character:I’m not good with knowing what is unpopular opinion on any characters. The way I RP Marco, is that when he’s truly and deeply in love, he blush a lot when alone with his s/o and while he can be very cocky, he’s rather soft, gentle and slight insecure. If his s/o needs him to be strong and confident, he will be, but on the inside, he’s not sure if he’s doing the right thing.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:LET HIM HELP LUFFY. Also, I wish he would get some closure, so I hope that Marco will be at Luffy’s side, when Luffy is facing Blackbeard. Also give him back his family. He doesn’t deserve to live alone on that island, even if his intention is pure.

So I have been very busy... and lazy. Been finishing up some Christmas stuff that I needed to finish, got all my shopping done, wrapped up, and ready to go. Didn't get stuff I wanted done before Christmas done but it's ok I can focus on that after the holidays are over, got other things I need to focus on.

Additionally I renewed my netflix account and I remember why I stoped using netflix because I will say I'll watch one episode and the next thing I know I'm 10 episodes in. And I still have not watched Voltron or the rest of Castlevania yet. Will have to watch the Aggretsuko christmas special, maybe in a bit when I get some food.

I also picked up a few games off psn since they are having holiday sales. Got Castlevania Requiem which contains Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night and let's be honest I got it for Symphony. I'm a huge fan of the castlevania series, and by huge fan I mean I like Symphony and the GBA/DS titles that are all Metroidvanias. not a fan of the older more platformy with BS enemy placement games to be honest. It was 10 bucks and the only other version of Symphony I have is for the PSP (which no longer works as the battery bloated up and I thorugh it out) thorugh the Dracula X collection, which also contained Rondo of blood 2.5D remake that I only played enough to unlock Symphony.

I also picked up Danganronpa 1-2 reloaded as I have heard good things from this series but never played them as they were for the vita. I'm a huge fan of the Ace attorney series and I always here comparisons to that series. I have yet to play them because I want to find time to sit down and actually be invested in the story.

I also got the Persona Dancing games. I was looking through PSN and noticed p4D was on the store, kind of. You can see the game page but you can't buy it. To get it you need to buy the P3D and P5D bundle and you get p4D as well... which I did. P4D and P5D have been what I have been playing the most the past few days. I have not started p3D yet. I forgot the P4D has a story mode, it took like 30 minutes to get to one tutorial stage, I have yet to go back to the story mode and just played the free mode. it's a fun game, but there is no dance version of "I'll Face Myself" so... 0 out of 10. But honestly it's fun and p5D is just as fun once I got used to it the rhythm mechanics. P5D kind of has a story mode but it basically says its not really canon unlike p4D which is canon. Im going to assume p3D has the same kind of story p5D has.

But yeah, just been kind of taking it easy the last few days. haven't had a lot of time to be online, I see the tumblr purge didn't make that big of an impact honestly, kind of good, the purge is a terrible movie series.

This going to sound harsher than I mean it to but...I think there is a certain subset (and I really do think it is a subset and NOT the majority, far from it) of female fans who are in their own way as guilty in regards to Peter’s character as they are of what a subset (albeit a way more vocal and currently in charge subset) of male fans are guilty of in regards to MJ’s character.

  They are very quick to throw the shade at the character (even throw him under a bus at times) without either properly contextualizing the specifics of a situation they are talking about or else not bothering to place themselves in his shoes and try to imagine realistically how me might feel.

  Or else they simply don’t try to ask “Okay Spider-Man is doing this thing that seemingly makes him look bad. Let me consider if there is a believable enough justification for his actions before I commit to condemning the character.”

  On tumblr I’ve seen that more and more among some posters in particular female ones (far from all of them though, like I said I believe them to be a minority) who clearly do LIKE Spider-Man, both as a series and as a character, nevertheless throw out shade along the lines of:

 -          Well he just makes such poor life decisions

-          He’s such a MESS, God get your life together Peter

-          What an asshole he was for not wanting to meet Mj because he didn’t realize she was pretty

-          Peter has such an EGO, look at whenever he used to interact with other heroes

-          Peter is so self-centred wow

-          MJ and Felicia and Gwen are too good for Peter

   Saying Peter makes poor life choices is untrue half the time and only true the other half of the time within the context of a dramatic entertainment series wherein it’d be boring if certain concessions were not made.

  Saying his life is a mess is intrinsically idiotic for the same reasons saying MJ sucked for worrying about Peter and complaining about his life as Spider-Man the way she did in the 90s. If YOU were in either of their positions and had the same histories, the same emotional attachments would YOU be much different? Would YOUR life be totally in order when you spend a large chunk of your time being a superhero both to financially support yourself and you know for ENTIRELY ALTRUISTIC REASONS? Would YOU honestly NOT act the way MJ did in the 90s?

 These sorts of attitudes to me demonstrate a really, really weird dismissal of the (relative) realities of life as or with a superhero. It’s like Peter being Spider-Man somehow ‘doesn’t count’, like he’s going out to play sports or something as opposed to actually being something important that should be taken into account when analyzing his life. Like...the entire premise of Spider-Man very much hinged upon the notion of showcasing the realities of life as a hero, how it came with a cost and didn’t fix everything. Like Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man No More literally SHOW you that NOT being Spider-Man WOULD allow his life to NOT be a mess, but that’s the price he pays for making sure nobody else loses THEIR Uncle Ben.

  Did Peter used to have an ego? Yeah...as did you know...EVERY Marvel hero under Stan Lee. Shit Silver age Superman had a humungous ego. It’s a trope something you don’t take 100% at face value. That smoothed out with his maturation and whilst he still had an ego at times, that was a debilitating flaw, just something that happened every once in a while as it would for a lot of people.

  Not to mention after what he has lived through and how hard he is on himself most of the time SOME ego is surely forgivable, healthy even. Which brings me to the whole ‘he thinks everything revolves around him’ argument.

  No...he doesn’t. He just holds himself to an incredibly high standard due to an obviously highly traumatic event he went thorugh growing up compounded by a few other similar events (Gwen’s death) as well as threats to his life and those around him by individuals specifically out to get him (Betty Brant was targeted at least 3 times in the Ditko run).

 Is it any wonder he’d be somewhat self-centred? And not even self-centred in a selfish way, self-centred in a ‘I suck, I let everyone down, I should have done better.’ Kind of way which is a million miles away from say pre-heart injury Tony Stark kind of self-centred.

 And finally the thing about not wanting to meet MJ...I’m sorry...how many male and female teenagers would NOT have been apprehensive over a blind date their old fashioned Mom set up for them out of fear that the date will be unattractive. Especially when in canon the qualities mostly pushed about her was that she would allegedly ‘make a good housewife’. 

 That isn’t a ‘Peter Parker is shallow’ thing or a ‘men are shallow’ thing. That’s a ‘teenagers who’re naturally immature and inexperienced with dating, romance, sex, etc tend to be shallow’ thing. 

 Don’t lie to me and pretend like the pre-Parallel Lives 14-18 year old Mary Jane herself would have been all for meeting her aunt’s neighbour’s geeky ass nephew. She wouldn’t have been and we all KNOW she wouldn’t have been. And that’s okay, that’d be realistic and entirely in keeping with how most teens (male or female) would feel in that situation.

 Let me be clear there are MALE readers guilty of this too (especially on CBR) but maybe it’s because I spend more time here in my (admittedly far from comprehensive) observations the fans who say stuff like that tend to be female more often than male.

  It’s nowhere near AS bad as the shit that unjustifiably gets thrown at Mary Jane mostly by male fans, but whilst collectively it might be worse each accusation is as equally unfounded.

  And as someone who truly loves both those characters I loathe seeing either of them unfairly thrown under the bus that way by people who aren’t even bothering to TRY to justify what the characters are doing out of laziness, a desire to be snarky or just enjoying the act of ripping into them.

  In much the same way a lot of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings fans these days have been defencive and protective of Luke and Frodo in light of the mass shade thrown at both characters, I’ve become more and more like that towards Spider-Man in recent years. I’ve been like that with Mj for ages but only recently have I felt it necessary to extend it to Peter too.

 I don’t know WHY exactly these sort of ill considered, narrowminded, half assed criticisms are emerging more and more these days. I can’t blame it on the existence of other Spider characters because I’ve more frequently seen this stuff stem from people who didn’t even discuss guys like miles or Kaine or Spider-Gwen. Just Peter himself.

  The hard truth is...I think gender might be the biggest factor.

 Like I said I really do think this is a MINORITY of female fans who say the stuff I’ve discussed but I think for them there is a certain lack of empathy or at least attempt to honestly see through the eyes of Spider-Man himself because they are female and he is male.

 Whilst this doesn’t seem to happen much at all in Harry Potter fandom (which might possibly be owed to Harry being a male character written by a woman), critically the HP narrative is mostly utterly dominated by seeing through Harry’s eyes it makes identifying with him less of a leap as compared to Spider-Man where there is more ‘distance’ between the character and the reader.

The Spider-Man series is mostly from Peter’s POV but whilst Harry Potter rarely deviates away from Harry is experiencing at any given moment within his own skin, Spider-Man cuts to other scenes and other characters and even presents scenes with Spider-Man from their POV very frequently. It’s perhaps the natural pay off to the comic book medium vs a novel. You do have to SEE your protagonist from the outside whereas with a novel you can much more easily be on the inside looking out.

 I think because of that relative distance, for some (but far from all) female Spider-Man readers it becomes easier to emotionally/mentally not make the leap into his head and really questioning why he thinks, feels and acts in the ways that he does beyond what is on the surface level presented to us.

 Peter talks back to the Fantastic Four when he first meets them. It must be because he’s an asshole and not because he’s you know, a teenager, who just lost his Dad, is desperate for cash, is somewhat naive and used to being an entertainer and wrestler

  Although I think at the end of the day a character can be relatable and identifiable regardless of what their identity might be (skin colour, gender, etc), I do feel that male readers of Spider-Man are probably going to be more inclined towards empathising with Peter and inclined towards trying to see if there might be an explanation for his actions.

  The reverse holds true as well. It’s painfully obvious that 90% of the garbage criticisms levelled against Mary Jane throughout her history stemmed from mostly (but again not all) male readers who were simply not even trying to put themselves in her shoes or else couldn’t.

  Okay sure, you could argue institutionalized sexism or the larger proportion of male to female Spider-Man readers is the reason there seems to be way more male MJ bashers than female Peter bashers, as well as using that to explain why the female Peter bahsers still seem to like the character on some degree whereas MJ’s loudest bashers tend to just hate on the character.

 However I’d also propose that a big reason for one group’s larger and more intense negative feelings compared to the other stems again from the genders involved.

 Male readers are going to find it comparatively harder to make the jump into MJ’s head and seeing things from her POV than they would Peter’s simply because they are men and she is a female character.

 It’s far from impossible and I think most male fans do make the jump. But it helps to explain why so many do not. The problem is exacerbated by MJ being a supporting cast member and thus her POV and panel time is given far less breathing space than Peter’s, who’s story and POV dominate the narrative. So when MJ is compalaining about Peter’s life as a hero to him in a scene from his POV it’s challenging for male readers to take a step back and consider HER pov.

  I’m not even calling that some kind of soft core misandry or misogyny.

 I just think it’s something that naturally occurs for a lot of people as a consequence of life and the style of storytelling weare discussing.

 Doesn’t make it cool to do though.

 Stop bashing MJ AND Peter and try to justify anything they do before you tear into them.

Ya know you always see fic of sans, where he is eagy, powerful or a douch to characters (like chara or flowey). They offer give him trait no canon or make him remember timeline(when he cant). I do wonder, do you know any fics/comics/AU where sans is the same but goes thorugh any character development?

I need to think on this a bit more (and it anyone has recs for this PLEASE send them to me. It's not immediately obvious that it fits your request, but I think it does. It also somehow managed to take my absolute least favorite UT angst trope, (the repeating genocide runs that Sans remembers somehow, woe is me my bro is dead for the 57th time everything is pointless), and made me love it. BONUS: this also kind of fits the Papyrus puts his foot down request (still working on that list) though it's not quite as immediate of prominent. Highly recommend this fic
