Also the bookmark poll just reminded me that I got my spouse two books for Christmas but I bought them while out shopping with the friend we were staying with in New England, and the only reasonable bookstore to get to was Barnes and Noble, and I forgot to take out the little "Join our rewards club!" slip from the receipt they'd tucked into the book, so he opens it up to read it and went, "GASP. You went to Barnes and Noble? BETRAYAL."
This is how genuinely ride or die my household is for indie bookstores.

Of blue cubes and boyfriends
Fandom: Doctor Who Pairing: 9th Doctor x reader Word count: 1.3k Summary: You go on a small shopping spree on an alien planet when you need an alibi boyfriend to get away from a ‘nice’ alien. Luckily your favorite alien is near... Requeted by a great and godlike Anon: Heya! If you don’t mind, could you make a fluffy 9th doctor x reader please? Thank you!
Tumblr media
The green-ish skies above you were almost glittering and the two suns above you brought a warm feeling over your skin. The planet the Doctor had brought you to was the definition of peaceful and you understood what he had meant when he had told you that in the nearest civilizations it was called what humans would probably call ‘heaven on earth’. You were strolling through the market with credits that the doctor had given you to get you out of the TARDIS while he did some maintenance work and you were more than happy to use the opportunity to get some souvenir shopping done and maybe find something nice for your favorite alien-man. A shiny blue cube got your attention and you walked over to the stand it was lying on beside other shiny geometrical construction. Behind the counter was a Octopus-like being, towering over you in height even though they were standing extremely hunched to fit into the stand, with at least ten long, gliberry arms - not quite a humanoid, but also not tentacles - which all held different products. Four perfectly round circles of a soft blue seemed to be their eyes, but you couldn’t locate a mouth anywhere near them. “Uhm...Excuse me?” you addressed them as politely as possible, since you were unaware of the local curtasies. One of the four eyes seemed to focus on you and another arm stretched out towards you and you had to do your best not to flinch away as it jumped towards you. For a few seconds you were afraid that they would try to restrict you, but the arm stopped shortly in front of your face. The tip of the arm opened up like a flower and in it was what you suspected to be their mouth - or one of them. “Yes?” it responded in a very soft voice that reminded you of the nice old lady that you once lived besides and that always sat on the stairs to the door to feed the stray cats in the area. It was very soothing. “I was just wondering, what might that be?” you pointed at the cube that was still glowing so enticingly. “It is a power source that contains something very old, very ancient, very expensive.” “How expensive are we talking?” you asked and felt the weight of the cartridge containing the credits inside your jeans pocket. “Two thousand and Four Hundred credits,” the being answered and you noticed how another eye focused on you, seemingly intrigued. “Do you think it makes a good gift?” “Yes, yes, very, very good gift, perfect for any occasion,” they answered, but you were pretty sure that they were just trying to sell it to you. You had to admit that the cube was pretty fascinating and it wasn’t like you had a limited amount of credits at your disposal so you just shrugged and handed them the cartridge. All of their eyes widened at what they saw on their screen, but they just silently gave you back the cartridge, put the cube into a package and thanked you for your purchase. You just smiled and made your merry little way, thinking about trying out one of these goldish-silver looking apple-things that everyone seemed to eat around you, when you felt someone tap on your shoulder. You turned around and faced a humanoid-looking person, with baby-blue skin and completely black eyes, and even though they did not have irises or pupils, you could feel their gaze wander over you body, immediately making you feel uncomfortable. “Can I help you?” “I couldn’t help but notice your outshining beauty, glowing brighter than the twin suns above us, could I take this rare opportunity in the eye of true godliness to ask for your name?” You couldn’t help but cringe at their choice of words and if they were a human you’d have expected a fedora on their head. You wanted to get away from him as soon as possible and you found your way to achieve that walking straight towards you. “I feel really flattered, but I’m afraid this beauty is already in an established relationship-” you waved to gain the Doctor’s attention and for some good measure you raised your voice, “-there he is. Honey! We’re over here.” The Doctor looked at you with eyes filled with confusion, but he came strolling over, his typical goofy smile on his lips, and didn’t object when you intertwined your arm with him. “See, this is my boyfriend, it was quite nice meeting you though. Goodbye.” Before they could respond and try to make you more compliments, you turned around and - with the doctor still beside you - walked away. “So I’m your boyfriend now? Fantastic,” he smiled at you and you felt your heart twitch just a little bit. “Sorry, I needed some way to get away from him, didn’t feel like accidentally marrying an alien...again,” you sighed and let go of his arm. “You know,” he started and put his arm around your shoulder, causing you to walk slightly tilted, “This wouldn’t keep on happening if you actually had a real boyfriend.” You just stared up in disbelief and let out a huffed breath. “Are you telling me you want me to give into one of these attempts? How rubbish would that be? It could never work,” you rolled your eyes as you sat down onto the stone-like bench that the Doctor had led you too. “No, that’s not- Wait, why wouldn’t it work?” he asked and inspected you with the same look in his eyes he always had when he knew the choice he had to make would end in something he didn’t want it to end in. “Oh please, as if I’d leave you and the TARDIS just to elope with some alien in a time that I don’t belong in. Would you really think I’d do that?” you asked and put your hand over your heart in feigned hurt. “You know, you could just stay in the TARDIS with me then and I’d be your boyfriend,” he shrugged like it was the most normal suggestion in the world, “ It’s not like we don’t act like a couple already and it would really put a stop to me worrying about finding you smooching the next best good-looking time-traveller.” For a few seconds you looked at him in stunned silence. “Are you serious?” “Yea, so? What do you say?” “Yes, yes of course, a thousand times yes,” you squealed and hugged him close to you, your lips pressing a kiss onto his cheek, “I’d like nothing more than that.” “Fantastic,” he said and one of his hands cupped your face, “You’re fantastic.”
Bonus
“Oh, by the way, I got this for you,” you said and pulled the blue cube out of the bag that you had with you when you arrived back at the TARDIS. “Ouhhh, what is this little beauty?” he asked, but obviously didn’t talk to you as he put it into one of the brackets of the TARDIS and started twisting and pulling knobs and handles before taking a look on the screen. For a few seconds he stared at it in silence, before rushing over to the cube, ripping it out and basically sprinting to the Door and throwing it out. “Ey, what was that for? That was expensive,” you complained and crossed your arms in front of your shoulder. “Do you know what it is?” “Some power source, at least that’s what the seller said.” “It is a power source alright, but one that I don’t want anywhere near my baby,” he scoffed and you couldn’t help but blush at the nickname, only to feel utterly stupid when he walked over to the TARDIS board and stroaked over them lovingly, “You’re precious enough as you are, don’t need to put anything else here that would attract thiefs, right? For all I care that cube can land in another dimension”

(This turned out longer than intended lmao, I was just gonna write a little and then it turned into this long ass rant but anyway)
I had this idea,,, what if the balance of the world had taken a different life in exchange for Arthur's birth? Someone who was also of great importance to Uther so he still develops his intense hatred of magic but,,, Ygraine survives. And she can't understand him because magic gave them a son, their beautiful little son and she tries to make him see sense but Uther doesn't want to hear any of it. The Great Purge still happens and she hates every moment of it. But she can't move against Uther so all she can do is teach Arthur better values, to help him see the goodness in it. Arthur grows up, still rather arrogant because he's Arthur, but he's more in touch with his emotions and a lot more gentle since he actually had a loving parental figure growing up. As for Morgana, Ygraine knows. She knows she's Uther's illegitimate daughter. Her husband never told her but she knows. She sees the longing in Uther's eyes when he gazes at her while she's sitting in Gorlois' lap. She sees the affection he shows her and the way his eyes light up when Morgana smiles at him, a look he usually only spares his son in rare moments. She can't help but resent the girl for it. For hogging his attention and affection when Uther already has a child, a legitimate child who wishes for his father's love. But when Gorlois dies and Morgana is brought to the castlegrounds as Uther's ward, Ygraine feels empathy for the little girl, who looks so broken and lost. She accepts that she is part of their life now. A few years pass. Ygraine watches Arthur and Morgana grow up. She appreciates their bond. Enjoys seeing them play together, dance together at feasts, seeing Arthur (if reluctantly) train sword fighting with Morgana (against Uther's explicit wishes) and actually losing against her a few times. She swiftly averts drama when both nervously ask her on seperate occasions if they would be forced to marry in the future. They seem relieved upon hearing that no, you two are going to be more like siblings. Because she definitely doesn't intend for them to try and fall in love, only to discover their blood relation later. She never really got too close to Morgana, because although she accepts her as part of the family, she's still reminded of the betrayal whenever she looks at her. But then one day, she notices the dark circles under the girl's eyes and her sickenly pale face and starts to worry. She questions Morgana's maid Gwen about her state - hearing about the increasingly worse nightmares and the sleeping draughts from Gaius which don't have much effect. She's concerned but doesn't understand the full severity until one night, she takes a stroll through the castle and hears Morgana's screams and finds her crying terribly, alone because Gwen's out of duty. Ygraine's motherly instincts kick in and she just sits down next to her, to hold her. Their relationship gets a lot better and closer after that. More than once, Ygraine would get woken up in the middle of the night by a sobbing Morgana and without hesitation, she'd jump out of bed. She'd take her hand and guide her wherever - sometimes back to her chambers, to stay with her until she calmed down and sometimes out into the castle gardens, enjoying the cool night air. Sometimes she'd hold her because of a particularly bad nightmare and sometimes she'd hold her because Morgana was terrified about the strange feelings she had for her maid and friend Gwen - Ygraine would then explain to her that it was okay, that it wasn't unnatural or wrong to like another girl that way. They'd also bond over other things - they'd giggle about Arthur, roll their eyes at Uther, walk around the market with Gwen. Slowly becoming more and more like mother and daughter.
Of course, Arthur wouldn't be forgotten though. She's still incredibly close to him, he's still her beautiful, golden boy and she never fails to make him feel loved or spare time for him. She never fails to notice when something's wrong. So she knows there's more to it when he bursts into the room one day, complaining about a commoner who had insulted him, even had the nerve to try and fight him. She's barely ever seen him this agitated and she can't help but smile because somehow she just knows her son actually likes this commoner wherever he wants to admit or not (wherever he himself even knows it yet or not). She meets said boy some time later at the feast. Merlin seems like a kind and good young man - and he saved her son, which is reason enough to like him already.
That same evening she has to listen to Arthur's enraged rant because how dare his father make this stupid fool his manservant? However already in the next days she's able to get him to say the words maybe he's not so bad after all. And latest after the events of the Poisoned Chalice, it's obvious that these two would go through hell and back for each other. And she's incredibly happy to see Arthur have that kind of bond to someone. That's why she doesn't say anything to Uther when she sees Merlin use magic. (Because let's be honest, that boy is terrible at hiding his magic, it's a surprise that not half of Camelot knows already). She feels obligated to let Merlin know she knows but also ensures him, she would keep it a secret for him. The good mood doesn't last all too long. Shortly after, Morgana admits fearfully that her nightmares have been coming true and Ygraine suspects the worst. She asks Gaius for help, and, both knowing each other's standpoint, gets the confirmation that they are caused by magic. She's hellbent on making sure Morgana doesn't feel alone, and has someone to talk to. Despite Gaius' protests, Ygraine tells Morgana about her gifts and reassures her that it doesn't have to be a bad thing. Morgana, while relieved about the support, isn't convinced - she doesn't feel safe, knowing Uther's view of magic. What follows are many, many fights between Uther and Ygraine. Whenever he as much as squints his eyes at the word magic, she explodes. She attempts to change his mind but really all it does is raise suspicion. Uther voices this suspicion, asking why she's suddenly so passionate about the topic. He knows she never agreed with the elimination of all magical beings but she's never been this vocal about it. He suspects that she's covering for someone and she'd like nothing more than to scream at him that yes, yes she is but it's not her place to say anything. What's sure is there are two people close to her family have magic and are in constant danger. And she decides she's finally putting an end to it. She changes her tactics. And after many discussions and countless attempts and most importantly, the admittance that she knew about his affair, she convinces Uther to tell Morgana the truth about her heritage and then to pubicly declare her as his own. To give Morgana a sense of security. Ygraine knows, no matter how many fights and arguments they've had in the past, Uther loves Morgana and if anyone could change his heart, it's her. So after some more comforting and encouraging, Morgana comes clean about her magic to Uther. He's obviously shocked and his first instinct is to push her away but Ygraine, at last, after over 20 years of persecution of magic, makes him see that it's about the person, not the power. That sorcery doesn't equal evil. And so, after more than 20 years, magic is legalised again. Arthur and Morgana are able to rejoice in being blood related and neither of them are infested with their father's hate. Merlin is able to come out about his magic and get accepted without being manipulated into making dumb choices by that giant lizard. Morgause wouldn't have a reason to act against the Pendragons anymore so she might just come to Camelot, simply to meet her half sister. All of them would lead happy lives. There'd still be obstacles because Uther is Uther and that won't change so aspects like the Round Table and "anyone can become a knight" would still have to wait until Arthur's king. But the time until that happens would be so much more peaceful. All because of a mother's love.

Maybe a short look at Pipin's first real vacation and him adjusting to being on said vacation? (I blame the current season event for this!)
[[ Am I still on time for this? Close enough!! Please enjoy this sappy drabble that I tried to keep short but it just kept going… ]]
It was to be yet another day. Another long and laboriousday, likely spent beneath the beating sun while out on the search for anotherjob. Such was the way of an unaffiliated mercenary,
During these years prior the reinstatement of the grandcompany that would come to be known as the Immortal Flames, Pipin had to dowhat he deemed necessary whilst his father took up a piece of command in theSyndicate. Though he’d been told times before that he needn’t work so hard as amere sellsword, the lad simply couldn’t stay put. Hells, the moment they wereboth free from their previous holding cells, he had been determined to strikeout a name for himself as his father had.
Ever since those days of freedom, he has worked tirelessly withoutrest. Until today, that is.
“Up and aboutalready, lad? Well you needn’t don your armors yet.”
At this the boy threw his father a curious look. Usuallywell awake and dressed for the day himself at this point, but Raubahn seemedrather dressed down for once. Simple cloths. No armor. Nothing to even showthat he might be paying visit to the palace today. Was he sick or…?
“Is something thematter?” Pipin questioned with growing concern, only for Raubahn to wavedismissively at the notion.
“None whatsoever. Imerely come to tell you that I have been given leave… for but a day or two.”He watched Pipin expectantly, as if that information alone should have beenenough to give him an idea. “A welcomechange all the same.”
“So that means…?”Pipin smiled unsurely. What did all of this have to do with him not starting off on first light?
Raubahn however ended off with a sigh and a shake of thehead. “What it means is that we shouldboth treat this valuable time as a small vacation. For both our sakes. When’sthe last time you’ve stopped and taken a day to yourself, lad?”
“Oh…” Pipinshifted into an awkward smile, scratching lightly at his chin as he thoughtabout it briefly. Of course he’d never learned to take a true break. Not unlessone was incredibly ill or injured! Why else would he? When Raubahn was mostdefinitely working just as hard?
“I mean…” He wenton to say again, raising his gaze at his father. “I, well… suppose you’re right. Though where do you suggest we go forthe occasion…?”
Goodness, he was still trying to come to terms with the ideaof even having this break to begin with! That he was actually spending the dayby other means… and with his father by his side too.
Could this… possiblybe real?
———————————————————————-
Low and behold, Raubahn was true to his words. Neither henor Pipin need labor for the next few days. A wild concept, for someone whoknew not how to take pause. For every idle moment, a lost coin. The cost fornot putting in a day’s worth. The very thought weighed on the young man’s mind.
“Relax lad. ‘Tis noharm in spending some time in leisure. If work proves to be the only thought inthat head of yours, then this vacation be a long time coming for you.”
More words that Pipin simply could not deny. As much as hewanted to.
As to how they would spend this afforded time, Raubahn hadthe idea to simply walk around the city with no true direction at first. Strollingaround in the open air, taking refugee in the cool halls of Ul’dah’s underbellywhen the heat grew to be too much.
Pipin would be all too keenly aware when people would stareat the two. How unlikely a duo they were. A son with little to show for, and afather worth everything if not the charm of her people. His face still provedto be an unknown to most, while Raubahn’s very name was a fad amongst many. Noteven mentioning their complete and utter physical differences.
What stares they received however, his father seemed to payno mind. And instead would indulge Pipin on whether there was something hewanted to do in particular. Somewhere he might want to go.
“The markets.” Heblurted without any real thought put into it, before hastily continuing. “Should be close by enough, yes? Mayhaps wefind a trinket or two as well…”
“Perhaps so.” Raubahnseemed to agree with no particular fuss. He seemed rather fine with goingwherever for the moment.
However, the Sapphire Avenue remained ever the busy and hustlingstreets known to many. Hagglers on every end, as far as the eyes could see, asmerchants tried to lure others into viewing their wares. Crowds hung around themost popular of areas—typically those where most go to find groceries and freshfoods, or perhaps expensive looking jewelry to catch the eye. Twelve knows howmuch an Ul’dahn values their person with flashy baubles and what have you.
The both of them had sidled up to the nearest stalls thatdidn’t appear as busy. A few goods here and there, a couple many hand-madecrafts put on display that must have been denied by the biggest traders whomwere currently garnering the most attention.
Pipin’s eyes ended up falling on a pair of bangles. None toofancy, if not common-looking, but rather charming nonetheless as his attentionkept straying towards the set. Raubahn of course took notice after watching theboy turn his gaze a few times at the same set.
“I’ll take those.”He spoke abruptly to the merchant, causing Pipin’s eyes to widen as he wavedhis hands.
“Oh no, you shouldn’t—”
“Think of it as atreat. They’ve clearly caught your eye!”
Pipin continued to huff and stammer, but eventually acceptedhis father’s generosity. Seemingly upset that he’d gone out of his way to do allof that, yet secretly smiling at the gift once Raubahn turned to look away.
Small as it may be, but it meantthe world to him. That someone wouldgo out of their way for his likes…
———————————————————————-
Much of the remainder of the day was spent with little boutsof fun here and there. Where they eventually found comfort in some hole in thewall restaurant for lunch and took that time to chat the day away. Simply goingon about what they’ve been up to, how work has been for the both of them… Pipinoccasionally throwing a few jokes and teases his father’s way in regards to hiscloseness to the Sultana as of late.
All in good fun. Far more than they’ve ever conversed as oflate. Moments like these were few and far between, just being able to sit downand talk like old times. How Pipin adored being able to spend time with the manhe admired so…
But by the end of the day, they were admittedly wiped. Lots ofwalking around and talking in the company of another. Good times that easilyflew by as the sun would be setting before long. Pipin suggested staying at theinn instead of returning home for the day. Not much of a break if they simplyreturned to their usual quarters, right?
“Fine enough an idea.”Raubahn muttered, though he did take care in getting them a nice little roomwith a decent view and balcony overlooking Ul’dah. Not like the common quartersof your average adventurer. The perks of having more coin than you could care whatto do with…
Pipin had been quick to make way for the open balcony sothat he may take in the sight firsthand. By this time night had begun to fall.Small dots of light filling the sky with each passing minute as the heavensgrew darker. So too would to moon eventually announce its presence… and the chillthat accompanied it.
“Come father! You cansee out over most if not all of Ul’dah from here!”
Well. It certainly wasn’t as high up as the palace founditself situated, but still a breathtaking sight nonetheless. Besides that—the privacyin which they could share without a single person in sight to judge them fordoing so.
Raubahn eventually walked over as well to behold the view. Arare and genuine smile on his lips. “Aye,that you can. True be told, ‘tis been some time since I last paused to beholdher and her beauty.”
Ever on the go, the both of them. Yet now they were allowedthis brief respite. A moment to sit back and watch the stars. To utter words oftheir plans and future. To reflect on their life thus far.
It wasn’t very often that they spoke on account of theirtime in the Coliseums. Nor of Raubahn’s past in Ala Mhigo… and that he stillyet yearns to see his lands free once more. Something that couldn’t possiblyhappen in the near future, yet a subject that comes up often between the two ofthem in close whispers.
Such personal conversations lasted between the both of themuntil one or the other had had enough. Tonight, Pipin had simply fallen asleepagainst his father’s form after tuckering himself out from all the talking andwalking.
…Or so one would think.
The night still remained ever young. His father all the morereminiscent as he decided to stay in place as he watched the start up high, thinking himself alone in his thoughts. Whereas Pipin had merely pretended tohave passed out, if only to enjoy this moment for a little longer. Not a childanymore, of course, and yet… for this moment only, he wished to take advantage. To imagine themselves both as truly father and son, wishing for the umpteenthtime their bonds would last forever in this way.
A shame that this day would eventually come to an end. Butfor better or worse, he greatly enjoyed the man’s company. And hoped that they’dcontinue to share these little bits of personal time with one another.
How hewished it would last…

Wish Upon A Star (StepBro!Harry) Part VI

Present Day: Six Years Later
“Look, I don’t care what Clintworth wants, the budget is the budget. So, you can tell him that it just can’t be done,” she slams the handset back on the base. She leans over to prop her elbows on the surface of the desk and brings her fingers up to soothe her temples. It’s April, and the marketing department has already hired their quota of new strategists for the season. However, the bloody head insists on taking in more than their budget permits. “Stubborn Americans,” she grumbles to herself.
After graduation, Y/n had been offered a job at one of the fastest rising corporations in New York. In just eighteen months, she managed to rise in the ranks to executive accountant. It’s a true testament to how much one can achieve with grueling nights of overtime and coffee running through the bloodstream.
With a loud sigh, Y/n grabs her purse and coat, and pushes out the doors of her office, “I’m going out to lunch. If I have any messages, write it down and put it on my desk, yeah?” she calls to her assistant as she heads straight for the elevator. “Thanks, Miguel,” she winks.
The weather is beginning to shift to higher temperatures after having suffered through a ghastly winter. She enjoys the moments when she’s able to walk through her city rather than having to hail for a cab. It’s true what they had told her before, the energy here is an incomparable force, and to think she almost ran away from it all. Truth be told, she hasn’t been home in over three years. There’s nothing there for her anymore, all that she could ever want is all right here.
The money she’s making at work is decent enough that she’s able to afford a nice apartment on the Upper West Side. From her bedroom window, is a nice view of the Hudson. The thought that at twenty-four, she’s able to live such a lifestyle, still baffles her. Although, she has gotten accustomed to the nightlife that surrounds the area, it’s rather enjoyable.
On special occasion, like when she’s sick of reading through all the financial reports that seem to pile high on her desk every day, she’ll call up either Anne or Eric for a few minute’s chat. They’d recently sold the house in Holmes Chapel and are now living in Camden. The decision was brought about when Eric was promoted to lead the London office, and he just couldn’t refuse such an offer.
Her phone begins to vibrate in her pocket and she smiles when she sees who it is. “Hey there,” she flirtatiously greets.
“Someone’s running a bit late,” the person on the other end says. She giggles into the phone as she rounds the corner of 51st.
“I’m walking into the restaurant as we speak. I can even see you right now!” she hangs up her phone and strolls over to the man dressed in the fitted navy-blue suit. He smirks when he sees her approaching and opens his arms out for her to enter. The man kisses her on the cheek before pulling out the chair for her to sit in.
“I see you decided to walk here,” he teases. “How’s work?” he asks while he glances over the menu.
She places the folded napkin in her lap and does the same. “Nothing out of the ordinary, it would just bore you,” she shrugs off.
“Dollface,” he reaches for her hand across the table, “you could never bore me.” She looks up from reading the mouthwatering description of the taglierini to smile at him.
“If you’re that curious, I’ve practically been breathing down marketing’s necks,” she says lightly.
He chuckles and kisses her knuckles, “It’s what you’re best at.” She playfully shoves at him before pulling her hand away.
“I resent that, William!” he lifts his hands up in mock surrender.
They had met during her last year at NYU. He was in one of the major business-exclusive fraternities and had bumped into her at one of their parties. At first, she didn’t think anything of him, but he was persistent and pursued her. It took about three months before she accepted to go on a date with him. One night out turned into frequent evenings spent walking through Central Park, and the rest is history.
***
He tilts his head up and studies the way the wall is being painted. As he takes a closer look, he notices the air bubbles forming just above the arch. “Repaint this part when you get the chance, will you, Tony?” he orders. He waits for Tony to give him a salute before continuing to supervise the rest of the crew.
This is Harry’s biggest project to date. A social networking company based in America had acquired him to design the plans for their new London branch. They’ve made quite the wave in the recent years, and Harry was honored to take on such a job.
Upon completion of his education, he’d been contracted by his place of internship to be a full-time architect. Harry has quickly become one of the most requested, and soon he’ll be eyeing a position as a partner. While he may be a bit young for that, if this project goes off without a hitch, he’s guaranteed for early consideration.
His mum says he works too much and complains that he never visits them enough. He tries to see them at least twice a month, but it seems like he’s always got stuff to do, or so he tells them. Anne’s tried to set him up on dates with daughters of friends she’s made. None of them are of major interest to him. Relationships in general aren’t of any interest.
Some would say he’s married to his job, and they’re probably right. Even while at university, Harry had poured his all into his school work. He considered everything around him to be a distraction, and he would only make time for social activity once he was sure to be at least two weeks ahead of deadlines.
***
Age 20:
It’s a Friday night, and everyone in the dorms is out drinking, or partying, or both. Harry has his headphones on to cancel out the noise while he focuses on completing a blueprint which isn’t due for another week. His professor has been quite impressed with him, and he’s even offering him a student internship at his firm.
Harry pretends that he doesn’t see his door open, and he chooses to ignore the blonde that waltzes over to him. He sighs when she takes off his headphones and insists on sitting in his lap.
“Where’ve you been all week?” she questions, as she attempts to discreetly shove her breasts in his face. “I’ve missed you,” she huskily whispers in his ear. He can’t help the way his eyes roll in annoyance. He had shagged her a few days ago while under the influence of some concoction one of his mates had given him. She had been giving him suggestive looks all night, before he thought ‘fuck it’ and let her take him back to her room.
Although, he thought he’d seen the last of her when he’d left once she’d fallen asleep. The one-night stands had become his thing, and they were to remain just that. So, as this girl—whose name he can’t for the life of him remember—is disturbing him from his assignment, well, it just won’t do.
“Look…Tessa, I had a great time the other night, really I did, but I’m not exactly looking for anything more right now,” he says and does his best to politely shove her the fuck off him.
“Excuse me? It’s Monica, you dick!” she responds, looking fully offended. He throws her an unconcerned look, and she storms out of the room.
He sits back in his chair and breathes out in relief.
***
Present Day:
When she finally gets home, she opens up a bottle of wine and pours a glass for her and William. He’s making her dinner tonight, having left work early. For the last month or two, he’s been hinting at wanting to move in. She first noticed when he asked her if she wanted him to make space in his closet for her clothes. It’s a sweet gesture, but Y/n doesn’t know if she’s ready for that kind of commitment, or if she’ll ever be ready to take that next step.
“I’ve got some exciting news for you,” he calls to her from his place in front of the stove.
She takes a sip from her wine, “Do tell.”
William stirs the vegetables around in the saucepan and puts the heat on low. “I’ve got business matters to attend to in London, so I have to fly out there in a few weeks. Since you’re from there and all, I was hoping that you’d want to come with me?” he grins at her.
“First of all, I’m from Manchester,” she pokes him in the side, “and…I don’t know, Will. I’ve got work and you know they can’t function without me.”
He dismisses her with a wave of his hand, “I told you, you should just come work for me. I can pay you double than what they’re paying you now.” Her cheeks suck inwards, not this conversation again. Not wanting to ruin the mood, she brushes it off. “I can finally meet your parents. You said they live around the area, right?”
“Yeah, but my dad-”
“Great! I’ll book our flight after dinner,” he cuts her off and goes back to his cooking. Y/n leans back against the counter, in distress.
***
“You’re really coming here? To London?” Carrie’s voice booms through the phone. After their meal, Y/n had faked drowsiness in order to get William to leave. She submerged herself in a hot bath before calling up her friend.
“Apparently. The new branch is about to open up and he wants me to come along,” she mutters.
“Well it can’t be that dreadful.”
A sarcastic laugh echoes through the bathroom, “Trust me, it can. He wants to meet my parents.”
The line is silent for a moment, “Is that a bad thing? I mean you’ve been with the guy for, what? Two, three years?”
“I just don’t think I’m ready for him to meet everyone,” Her leg splashes out of the water, and she watches the suds flow down her skin.
“And by everyone, you mean him, don’t you?” Her heart drops at the mention of him.
“Of course not, it’s been six years…” she sighs. And in those six years, she hasn’t spoken to him once. She hadn’t come home for Christmas break that first year, and he’d been gone for the entire summer holiday. He has an Instagram, but rarely ever uses it, so she’s pretty much in the dark in everything concerning him. Although, the few pictures he has from a few years ago—wow. If she thought he was gorgeous before, it’s rather frustrating how he’s just…unreal.
“Then get your arse back here! If you’re really over him, it won’t be a problem, yeah?”
Her body further immerses itself into the bath. From what her mum had told her over the phone, he rarely sees them anymore. Too busy with his job and whatnot. She thinks carefully about this, what are the odds that they’ll even see each other? London is such a big city, it can’t be that hard to avoid someone.
***
Harry is lying face down on the bed when his phone rings. He reads the caller ID and immediately picks up. “Yes, Mr. Schwartz,” he answers, the naked body next to him slings an arm over his back. He carefully picks it off before pulling the covers off. “I’ve got my people doing the finishing touches.” The voice on the other line continues to babble on, and quite pretentiously at that.
“Ok, I’ll be sure to contact the decorator to follow-up on the tables.” His head falls back, and he covers his eyes with his palm. “I’ll be there, see you,” he hangs up his phone. The project, while he’s incredibly thankful for it, has him working with some of the snobbiest people he’s ever had the displeasure of working with—that’s from having only talked to them over phone. Just the way this man talks makes his skin crawl. He thinks they feel entitled, calling him at inconvenient hours because they seem to forget about the five-hour time lapse.
He gets back into bed and allows the woman he picked up at the bar to straddle his waist. Her lips fall onto his in a sloppy kiss. She starts her trail from his neck and down his body until her lips wrap around his semi-hard member. He sucks in a breath and keeps his eyes shut because that way, he can pretend it’s her.
***
Y/n is panicking, actually scratch that, she’s gone into a full mode frenzy. She’s been pacing around her office for god knows how long, trying to pull herself together. Miguel is watching her with concerned eyes from where he sits on the couch tucked in the corner of the room.
“This is insane! I’m a grown-ass woman and bringing her boyfriend to meet her parents shouldn’t be such a nerve-biting thing, right? Right?” she nearly yells at him for confirmation.
“Honey, you’re making me dizzy. You need to sit down,” he motions for her to lie on the cushions. When she does, she lays her feet in his lap for him to massage.
“I just don’t know what to do. I haven’t seen my parents in-”
“Three years, I know.”
“And I haven’t seen him since-”
“He left you in that closet.” She glares at him. “What? Not my fault you spill tea whenever you’re drunk.”
Miguel has been her assistant since she’s taken the position as executive accountant. He probably knows more about her than any employee should ever know about his boss. He quite enjoys it though, he finds her life to be so exciting and dramatic.
“What am I going to do? I can’t handle this! It’ll be nearly impossible!” she groans, nearly pulling out her own hair. She hasn’t even forgiven her parents for ruining her last relationship, and now she’s expected to introduce them to her newest? “Give me advice,” she whines to Miguel.
He lets out a huff, “Like you said, you’re a grown-ass woman. Everything that happened to you before should remain in the past. That includes your,” he pauses and bites his lower lip, “extremely fine stepbrother.”
***
Age 14:
Harry is at some stupid sports camp, and Y/n has become extremely restless at home. It’s only been three days since he’s left, and he’s not scheduled back for another four. She already misses him like crazy. Who would have thought that she’d be searching for his incessant pestering and corny jokes that only she seems to find funny? Her mum has suggested calling him up, but she can’t do that! If Harry were to find out that she misses him, he’d never stop teasing her about it.
“Sweetheart, just call him. I think he’d really appreciate it if you did,” Anne nudges her towards the phone. Y/n crinkles her nose in thought and squints at it, as if touching it would burn the flesh off her hand. “Oh, for goodness sake,” Anne mutters and before Y/n can do anything, Anne’s already dialed the number and is waiting for someone to pick up.
“Yes, this is Anne Y/L/N, Harry Styles’ mother. If it isn’t an inconvenience, I’d like to speak to him,” she smirks at Y/n. Anne’s eyes are suddenly widening and she literally shoves the phone to Y/n’s ear.
“Hello?” Y/n gasps when she hears Harry’s voice. She looks to her mum, but the sly woman has already made a sneaky escape.
“Hi, Harry,” she shyly replies. Curse her mum for putting her in this situation.
“Y/n! Hey! How are you? Wow, didn’t realize how much I missed you until I heard your voice.” Y/n can feel her face flush and she bites her lips together to prevent the huge grin threatening to form. “You still there?”
“Yeah, I’m still here,” she pauses. “I miss you too, like a lot. Hurry home, ok?”
“I’ll try my best, anything for my favorite girl.” She slides down the wall and suppresses her squeals with her knees.
***
Her reflection seems to be of someone she doesn’t recognize, it’s the first thing she notices when she takes a good look at herself in the hotel bathroom mirror. The person in front of her lacks the confidence that she normally radiates. There’s this pang in her chest that hasn’t left her since landing this morning. And no matter how many times she tells herself to relax, she feels like she’s sinking further into the feeling.
Being in this city makes her anxious. All the broken promises that should have been glare at her wherever she turns. They had passed her would have been university in the car here. Y/n quickly wiped the single tear that fell down her cheek before William could notice. She wonders where she would be if they hadn’t gotten caught but forces the thoughts out of her mind. What’s over is over.
Her and William are meant to meet her parents for lunch in a bit. She’s peeved at the part of herself that’s hoping that he’ll be there. “Of course, he won’t be there. He’s probably busy or something,” she points at her mirrored image, “You. Calm yourself down, Y/n.” When she recognizes how ridiculous she’s being, her lips flap to mimic a motorboat engine.
***
Eric and Anne anxiously await their daughter at the restaurant. He’s eaten half the bread in the basket as he anxiously eyes the entrance. It’s hard to believe that it’s been this long since he’s last seen her. They’re not as close anymore, haven’t been since he’d forced her to leave. When they talk on the phone, it’s a simple ‘hi, hello’ before she’s hanging up to attend to her duties.
“Honestly, Eric. I know you’re nervous, but please try to contain yourself,” Anne scolds him. She’s only slightly more put together than he is.
Her husband taps his fingers impatiently on the table, “I can’t help it. Surprised she even told us she’d be here. I haven’t had a fully decent conversation with her since...” he shakes his head, not wanting to remember.
“See! There she is now,” the pair of them rise once they spot her walking towards them in some of the highest heels she’s ever seen.
“There she is!” Eric slowly wraps his arms around her.
“Hi, Dad,” she hugs him back awkwardly, then turns to greet Anne. “Hi, Mum.”
“You look amazing! My goodness, New York has been good to you, hasn’t it?” her mother has her twirl in front of her. A blush creeps onto her cheeks, but an almost obnoxious cough has her turning back to William.
“Um…Mum, Dad, this is William,” she angles herself to reveal the man standing behind her. “My…boyfriend.”
The older two give each other weary looks. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, William,” Anne is the first to speak. Eric eyes the man from head to toe. There’s something about him, he can’t quite put his finger on what it is, but he’s not sure if he likes it. However, he does extend his hand when he feels Y/n burning holes through his skull.
“Let’s sit down, yeah? I’m starving!” Y/n tries to progress. She basks in the time that everyone takes to gloss over the menu, the less talking, the better.
***
“So, tell me, Anne, what was this one like as a child?” William asks. “Y/n rarely talks about her life before NYU.”
Anne wipes her mouth her napkin and adjusts her posture, “She was the sweetest little girl! Always wanting to help me around the house and help me cook because the men were completely useless.” She sends her daughter a knowing smile.
“Hey, Harry and I did our best to keep up with you two!” Eric defends with a chuckle. Y/n watches as confusion adorns over William’s face.
“Harry? Who’s Harry?”
Her parents give her that look, and she crinkles her nose at the sight. She may have failed to tell him that she has a brother, but for a good enough reason. When she met William, the only thing she had mentioned was that she was from Holmes Chapel, that’s it. He, of course, asked about her parents, of which she obviously did mention.
“Harry is our son,” Anne says as a matter of factly, “Y/n’s brother.”
“You didn’t tell me you had a brother?” he eyes her disbelievingly. Y/n takes a long sip of water, hoping to buy time to think of an excuse.
“Sure, I did!” she slowly places the glass down. “I mentioned him briefly once or twice.” She bites the inside of her cheek and hopes he’ll buy it. And thank god he does.
***
Everything looks perfect. Harry had walked through all twenty-five floors of the building to make sure that the setup met his standards. And now, he watches as the people who will be using this space mingle amongst each other. His clients had invited him for the grand opening celebration. As much as he would rather avoid any big social gatherings, there is a lot riding on this, and he would like to meet the people he’s working for, in person. He’s asked around, and some people—he assumes are employees—tell him that the big boss is running a bit late. It’s a bit unprofessional, in his opinion. Harry grabs a fluke of champagne from a passing server and gulps it down in one go.
That’s when he spots her from across the room. It’s like everything around him slows down. She’s just as beautiful as he remembers, if not, more. Her hair is curled just below her shoulders, and she looks so elegant in that satin dress she’s wearing. He thinks back to if he’s had too much to drink, when he realizes that the one he had just consumed is only his first. His eyes blink a few more times, but it’s not an illusion. She’s here, but why? All he wants to do is run right up to her and embrace her, kiss her.
“Are you Mr. Styles?” he breaks contact with her figure when he feels a hand on his shoulder. He turns to meet a man that’s a few inches shorter than him.
“I am, but please, call me Harry” he replies.
The man gives him an over exaggerated smile, exhibiting his too-white teeth. “William Schwartz, it’s nice to finally meet you,” he shakes his hand. “You know, I must say, I’m rather impressed with what you’ve done here. I mean, I’m just blown away by all the detail. This place makes the New York office look like a garbage dump.”
Harry chuckles and shakes his head, “I’m sure that’s not true, but thank you for the compliment. My team and I have worked really hard.”
“My girlfriend was just telling me how wonderful the place looks,” William peers behind him, “Y/n!” Harry is frozen in his spot. In his head, he’s praying that it’s not the same Y/n, his Y/n.
***
She graciously pardons herself from the conversation when she hears William call for her. He’s talking to someone, but his back is turned to her. Once she’s close enough, her heart stops.
“…Harry?” she can’t believe he’s here. He slowly pans his head until their eyes connect. Suddenly she’s a teenager again, the butterflies in her tummy acting out whenever he’s near and look at her with those eyes. All she can think about is the urge to touch him again. The pictures she had seen on his profile hadn’t given him any justice. The first few buttons of his shirt are undone, and she sees fragments of tattoos over his chest. She remembers him telling that he wanted to get inked, but never expected this much.
The world around them seems to fade away as they take a good look at one another. She’s so close, yet seemingly untouchable. There’s a spike in adrenaline coursing through his system as he watches her lip tuck beneath her teeth. It’s been so long.
William looks between the two of them, “Do you two know each other?”
Y/n hesitates at first, she’s still trying to figure out if the man in front of her is really there. “He’s my…” but it’s as though she can’t find the words.
It’s him who breaks eye contact to look at William, then he clears his throat. “Her brother.”
“Yes,” she narrows her eyes at him, “my brother.”
“Oh,” William drags out, “so you’re the prodigal sibling that I’ve recently learned about.”
Harry raises an eyebrow at her, “I guess that’s me.”
“What a coincidence, isn’t it, Dollface? What are the chances that your brother is my architect?” his arm fastens around her waist, and she can’t help but feel awkward in her place. She does her best to put on smile to shield the inner turmoil. “Well, I’ll let you guys catch up.” Her eyes remain wide open when he pecks her goodbye.
The pet name has Harry about ready to throw up. His fists clench in his pockets as he watches them interact. He can’t stop the twinge of jealousy that rushes through him when William kisses her. “So, Dollface.”
***
A/N: This is a major catch-up part since I’ve jumped over a lot of time. Feels like we’ve just started, but now we’re starting the countdown to the end??? I love you all ❤️Tell me your thoughts here!

“Working 9 to 5....”
Wow! What a week it has been – where do I even begin to capture this crazy roller coaster ride? I sat down to write this post on 3 different occasions but after catching up with Philippa (from TIE – The International Exchange) it’s fair to say that she really inspired me to spend time reflecting to capture the highs and lows.
Tumblr media
I was off to a great start, with a vibrant team, intelligent people and discovering a way that I could really add value to another company. Lunch time strolls involved learning how to frevo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frevo), visits to museums (pictured above) and eating Cartola, (the direct translation is top hat) which is fried bananas with cheese, topped with cinnamon. Trust me this strange combination goes so well together (pictured below)! To say I felt at home by day 2 was an understatement. That evening I was invited to dinner with a group of girls from work. With my non-existent Portuguese and limited Spanish, we somehow formulated a conversation full of fun and laughter! It felt good to relax and hang out, without thinking about the mammoth project that lay ahead.
Tumblr media
By the middle of the week I was preparing a presentation to give the team information on me, my role at Octopus and what I was aiming to achieve whilst at Joy Street. I was hoping this would help everyone have a clearer picture of why I was here and how we’d learn from each other.
After raring to go on Monday, I’d hit a roadblock by Thursday and wasn’t sure I knew what I was trying to achieve, let alone how I was going to get there. Joy Street are a company who are transforming education through gamification in education throughout Brazil. Whilst, my job in London is helping others learn and develop, my knowledge of the tech world is limited. My project is to look at one of their specific platforms used in higher education and benchmark the competitors in the market. Whilst this sounded great and reminded me of my research days from university, where I was going to start was beyond me. Regardless of feeling way out of my depth and whether I could do this justice, I began with interviewing key members of different teams to find out more.
Tumblr media
Most of the team speak English, although they were a little shy at first, we were slowly finding our feet as the week progressed. Sometimes the language can be a barrier I need to overcome. It’s a new environment with a new team so I’m working on gaging when they’re busy, who to ask and how I can achieve my objectives.
Despite the challenges we ended the week on a high. I was welcomed with a team breakfast before running my training session. They brought Octopus to life with diagrams and pictures capturing the essence of what we’re about. It was a wonderful way to bring it all together and facilitating a SWOT analysis aided my research of competitors and setting the scene for the following week. I was feeling inspired, full of knowledge and had a clearer idea of the project ahead. The night ended with lessons in forró (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forr%C3%B3) in true Brazilian style – now I was starting to feel like a local 😉.
Tumblr media
Let’s see what next week has in store and how I’m really going to start making progress. I’m hoping to feel more settled with the project and as my friend says, feel the fear and do it anyway!
Love Mira x

30 Things I Discovered Prior To Turning 30 (About Life & Marketing).
Tumblr media
As an online marketer, I make sure you have actually heard it at some time or another: people ages 18-34 are the "essential market."
They're the movers-and-shakers. The ones in-the-know. The ones with loan to invest. They're the ones you wish to know and like your brand name, let alone buy from it.
Well, good friends, today is my 30th birthday, my golden birthday, in truth ... and, while my beautiful brand name colleagues are going to roll their eyes and hate me for saying this, that implies my remaining days of importance are limited.
Marketing By Nature
Ok, yes, that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but after 3 decades in this skin, I have actually discovered that sort of drama is simply a part of my brand.
I've also discovered numerous other unexpected lessons that have actually shown to be beneficial in both my personal life and my life as a marketer and material specialist.
You see, I've only been in this industry expertly for about nine years, however, in that time, I've found many parallels in between being a good online marketer and, honestly, just being a good person.
In a nutshell, both boil down to:
Being able to understand and interact with other individuals well
Accepting your genuine self
If you can master these areas, you'll likely not just be a better individual but a better marketer-- but I'm getting ahead of myself.
I've invested the previous 4 years of my work life (and frankly some quite powerful years of my twenties) helping my colleagues at IMPACT, factors, and sponsors, find out how to much better refine their voices and share their stories.
I've always motivated them to share lessons huge and little from their experiences, however I haven't constantly had the possibility to practice what I preach.
Indulge me for a few minutes.
Taking a page out of Taylor Swift's book (minus those chapters about Kanye and John Mayer), here are 30 lessons I discovered marketing and life prior to turning 30. Some of these may seem apparent or irrelevant, however that does not make them any less real or worth duplicating.
1. Pretty Doesn't Mean Perfect.
Whether you're talking style or marketing imaginative, design does not top function. A style requires to always solve an issue and attain the goal you set for it.
Much like an unsightly hat can still keep your head warm, an unsightly site or graphic can still deliver results. Just take a look at Craig's List or Reddit. They might not be the most impressive or sophisticated designs, however nobody can argue with their effectiveness.
2. Do not Do It Simply Since It's Trendy.
This is another lesson about individual style I have actually discovered for many years, however it calls unquestionably real for marketers also.
Just since something is popular does not suggest it's best for you.
Everyone and business is different situations, requirements, and objectives to think about. Prior to you begin a brand-new strategy, tool, (or that set of skinny jeans, for that matter), consider what you're trying to accomplish and your audience.
If the pattern will not move you towards accomplishing what you desire (or make you look your finest), skip it.
3. Individuals Do Not Always Know What They Desired.
Despite what they may think, individuals do not constantly know what they really desire. They'll declare something, then do another, and that's no different when it comes to buying habits.
Time and time once again, we've surveyed people to inquire their preferences, just to see their habits not echo it. There are so numerous unconscious things that motivate us as people, particularly in the heat of a minute.
That being said, trust actions and user screening. Action speaks louder than words.
4. You Still Required to Listen.
There are times to use tough information and deal with individuals's unconscious behavior and there are times to take their word.
Just put, don't manipulate individuals.
In many instances, it's much better to offer individuals what they understand they desire, so they know you are listening and care about what they think. Individuals simply desire to be heard. Showing they were builds trust and, in turn, a better relationship.
That being stated ...
5. Don't Take Trust for Granted.
As soon as you've made somebody's trust, do not abuse it. Without trust, nobody will wish to work, purchase, or likely even be around you.
It's that simple.
6. Absolutely Nothing Lasts Permanently.
This is something I've had a hard time pertaining to terms with as I lost some liked ones in the last few years, but expertly, it's simply a truth.
EFFECT Partner, keynote speaker, author, and all-around amazing guy, Marcus Sheridan preaches that when it concerns material and marketing, the concepts behind why we do things will never alter, however the how (tools, practices, and so on) always will.
That being said, no material you develop is most likely ever truly evergreen. It will constantly require to be upgraded with brand-new data, examples, etc to showcase how things are done today. Exact same goes for your site.
7. Represent Something.
Modern buyers gravitate towards brands that represent a cause and share the very same worths and issues they do. It helps guide their options and makes them feel a little bit better about their purchase, understanding they supported a good cause.
Strong values and knowing what you believe undoubtedly also assist you in your personal life. They can help you discover the right task or friends and perhaps even assist them find you.
8. Variety & & Inclusion Are Strengths.
What do I mean? More than anything, variety, addition, and representation. In a lot of areas of my life, I have always been a minority, an outlier even ... but I've constantly attempted to bear in mind that this isn't a bad thing.
Diversity and inclusion whether it remains in gender, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or otherwise, are always a good idea.
They bring more perspectives and concepts to the table and better allow you to reach a broader audience. They make individuals feel welcome.
Numerous may not want this (as I experience first hand) or perhaps shy away from resolving it, however as marketers and humans, our goal is to get in touch with other individuals. The very best method to do that is by making them seem like they belong.
9. Commitment Is Invaluable.
Discovering people who will stand by you or your brand through anything are rare. When you do, treasure them and treat them right.
10. It's OK to Program Your Defects.
We reside in a society where whatever and everyone is so airbrushed, finding things that aren't is a breath of fresh air.
It's an indication that you're genuine and honest; that you're not trying to fool anyone into thinking something that isn't true.
This openness, again, constructs trust and, frankly, makes you more human and pleasant. Do not hesitate to reveal your genuine face to everybody you meet.
11. Always Admit When You're Wrong.
In a comparable vein to showing flaws, if you're wrong or slip up, own it. Trying to hide a shortcoming will only make you look even worse in the eyes of those around you.
12. Start With What You Have.
If the plastic bag of plastic bags in my work locker does not inform you, I'm big on resourcefulness. Why waste loan and time when you have something you can recycle?
The same can be said about content. Considering trying video or Pinterest? Don't start from scratch. Take some of your best carrying out existing material and reimage it for the medium and audience.
13. Do not Simply Be a Yes (Wo)Man.
As William Wrigley Jr. when stated, if two men agree, one of them is unnecessary.
Simply put, varying opinions and perspectives are essential. Do not be afraid to disagree if you have useful factors to. Speak up!
14. Be Honest.
Say what you mean and indicate what you say. Lying or purposefully misspeaking about what you think or desire will never result in a great result long term.
15. Technology Isn't Foolproof.
My whole task, like much of yours I'm sure, lies behind a computer screen. And while technology can make life substantially simpler and more hassle-free, it isn't sure-fire.
When the web is down, it's like all the cages were exposed at the zoo around here! Strategy appropriately.
16. Fulfilling People In Individual Still Matters.
Similarly, meeting people practically is easier than ever thanks to technology, however it still can't top event face to face.
The experience of shaking somebody's hand, providing a hug, or having the ability to share area with them is an entire various type of bonding. So, go to occasions. If you work remotely, visit your office. This real-life face time is unrivaled.
17. There's a Time to Be Clever And There's a Time to Be Clear.
I'm a writer; wordplay is my jam-- but you need to know when it is appropriate.
When it pertains to communication, never compromise the clearness of your message just to sound clever. It does not matter how terrific what you're stating is if nobody can comprehend it.
18. The Law of Reducing Returns Is Genuine.
A few years back, we increased our content output anticipating increased traffic, however we didn't see it. Our audience, in reality, informed us they couldn't keep up and numbers plateaued and even dropped.
The reality exists are limitations to everything. You can only consume numerous cookies. You can just stroll many miles. Markets get saturated. People reach critical mass with just how much content they have the ability to take in and you require to keep your eye on this.
That stated ...
19. Quality Always Tops Amount.
Would you rather be in a room with 10 complete strangers or in a room with two of your friends? How about releasing 10 terrible short articles that get lost in cyberspace or 2 that you're happy of and Google ranks on the first page?
In practically every scenario, quality is more important than quantity.
20. Free Does Not Mean Great.
Do not get me incorrect-- I'm the queen of giveaways, but do not underestimate your audience and believe they'll complete a type or take anything you offer them simply because it's totally free.
People still want and demand quality, and you ought to too.
21. Emotion Doesn't Make You Weak.
I was never ever a psychological individual till a little over 3 years earlier. I had never even cried at a movie, however my world came crashing down when my cousin died all of a sudden and the pain seeped into every element of my life.
I cried more than I've ever cried in my life and in front of associates I 'd never want to see my weakness-- but that's the important things. Gradually, I have actually begun to discover it's not a weak point.
Emotion is human.
Being able to show, capture, comprehend, and express real emotion in way that can touch others is a powerful ability as a marketer and a person. In both cases, it makes individuals feel closer to you; it helps bond them to you and it shows them you understand them on a much deeper level.
So ...
22. It's OKAY to Get Personal.
Again, people wish to be around and do organisation with other individuals. When you get individual and are vulnerable about your experiences, you are more capitivating.
23. Forgive Yourself for "Failing."
Whether it was a relationship or a project folded, often things don't go as prepared. Actually, things practically never ever go as prepared. Dust yourself off and attempt again. You only stopped working if you didn't find out anything from it.
24. Don't Propose After the First Date.
Mentioning stopped working relationships, regard the natural development of human interaction whether it be expert or individual.
Simply like you would not propose after a very first date when someone is simply learning more about you, do not go in for the hard sell after a very first meeting.
In neither of these scenarios is the person likely looking to seal the offer, so sluggish it down.
25. Produce Excellent Memories.
Individuals love to talk about "the great times." As a brand, you must be creating excellent memories like these for your buyers and as a person, do it for your soul.
26. You Can't Make Everyone Pleased.
There's constantly going to be a critic or someone who disagrees with what you do or say so don't set out to attempt to make everybody pleased. Concentrate on those who actually matter-- your audience; your enjoyed ones.
27. Be Yourself.
They say replica is the greatest form of flattery, but it also means that you're just one of many. Welcome what makes you or your brand name special and different or you'll get lost in the crowd.
Plus, people can always sense when you're trying to be something you're not and absolutely nothing is a bigger turn-off.
28. Take Dangers.
Threats can be scary, however only since they can be life-altering. So, take the leap. I'm not stating be reckless, but if an opportunity or concept will not ruin everything you have actually worked for, offer it a shot.
If it does not work out, remember # 23.
29. Discomfort Is Great.
If a scenario makes you uncomfortable, it's most likely just because it's something you've never ever experienced prior to. It's an opportunity to grow and discover. Embrace it.
30. You Never Ever Stop Knowing.
Like much of you, when I was maturing, 30 appeared ancient.
When I hit that age, I would be an old female. I would have seen everything, experienced whatever, and discovered whatever. I would have whatever determine-- however that, undoubtedly, was unreasonable.
Whether it pertains to work or life, there is always something new to be discovered and enhanced.
Both digital marketing and life are constantly changing and I certainly do not know nearly everything about either of them. I do know that as I keep discovering and developing in both arenas, I will be thrilled and honored to share my lessons with all of you.
Here's to formally being thirty, wordy, and thriving.

From Chapati to Sticky Rice
People who have spent considerable time in India have repeated to us time and time again the same line, “India will change you.”  And to neither of our surprises, this turned out to be the case. Here are few examples:
Tumblr media
We learned quickly that every day would be a challenge, and that nothing can be taken for granted in India. Getting from A-B, finding a restaurant, finding a pharmacy, finding a bathroom, heck even walking next to each other in a crowd can be tough in Delhi. Travelling here forces you to maintain a calm and composed state of mind even in the most trying of situations. Given that timetables and stated schedules are meaningless, letting yourself get flustered at the first hiccup can be a trip ruiner.
True Statement: If you can travel in India, you can travel anywhere in the world.
We experienced sensory overload pretty much every day. I’ve never been in a place that had so many smells, sights and sounds ricocheting off each other at all hours. While we continuously felt overwhelmed by this, we soon learned to appreciate the vibrancy of the everyday chaotic routine of India.
Living healthy is incredibly easy to do when you put yourself in a healthy environment. For two months we didn’t eat meat, rarely drank alcohol and didn’t consume dairy. Restaurants aren’t marketed as “vegan” or “farm to table”... they just are. We found ourselves sleeping incredibly well, practicing yoga nearly every day and reading more than we ever had in our lives. There is a reason that India is the yoga and meditation capital of the world… it is the perfect cure for the everyday chaos of living in such a country. Our New Year's resolutions are to continue this healthy lifestyle as we continue our travels and re-enter the “real world” in April.
India constantly reminded us that the best way to get our questions answered was by talking to other people. Finding information online, if it exists at all, is often outdated and incorrect. The blogs we were reading tended to be 3-4 years old, and many of the restaurants/attractions we went out looking for had inaccurate pins on Google Maps. Instead of burying our heads in our iPhones, we were reminded of the old fashioned way of asking for help. Human-to-human interaction, to no surprise, was our lifeline when we were lost or confused (which was often). Locals were more than willing to point us in the right direction after we showed them a restaurant/guest house on on phone, and a few times they even walked us where we needed to go (without asking for anything in return) just to make sure we didn’t get lost.
Most important of all: trust your gut. If you don’t like a guesthouse, leave. If you don’t trust a taxi driver, look for another. If a menu looks questionable, the food is probably also questionable & you should keep searching. Letting your gut and intuition guide the way is the only way to survive long term travel in India. Decisions should be made from the heart and from the gut, not because a guidebook says something or Trip Advisor suggests it. The best way to experience India is through an open mind and flexible schedule. Things will go wrong, and your ability to roll with it will make or break your trip.
When we get asked about out two months in India we speak in incredibly fond and honest terms. We say “It’s crazy. You should go. You need to go. If you are able to slow down & let things happen how they may, travelling in India will simultaneously astonish you, startle you, and ultimately, change you.”
See you later India!
And just like that… exactly two months from the day we landed in Ft. Cochin, India, we hit the road for Chiang Mai, Thailand! Our 21 hour travel day looked something like this:
Alarm goes off at at 2:30, 2:35 & 2:40am in Delhi 3am taxi from Delhi guesthouse to Delhi airport 6am flight from Delhi to Calcutta 4 hour layover in Calcutta 2pm flight from Calcutta to Bangkok 8pm flight Bangkok to Chiang Mai 20 minute taxi from airport to guesthouse Bed at 11pm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^ That is a cricket :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the moment we were dropped off in front of our guesthouse in Chiang Mai, we were struck by the silence that surrounded us. People weren’t honking their horns, dogs weren’t barking, construction wasn’t being done on every corner… we could even walk side by side without the fear of being run off the road. Compared to Delhi, Chiang Mai felt more like Disney World than the second biggest city in Thailand. It was refreshingly eerie.
Chiang Mai is the capital of Northern Thailand, and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The charming “Old City” is a one-mile by one-mile grid, surrounded by a picturesque moat dating back to 1292. Buildings don’t rise above three stories, and there are cafes on every corner with reliably fast wifi. The developed, yet chilled out vibe of the city is what makes it one of the most frequented destinations for digital nomads and expats to settle in.
We spent our days exploring the city by pedal bike, and our nights eating street food at the market and listening to live jazz at a bar down the road from our guesthouse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ran a few times while in India, specifically in Goa, but gave up after being chased by dogs on more than one occasion. In Thailand I was able to run again, with the boundaries of the Old City creating a perfect four mile running path.
Tumblr media
One afternoon we ventured into to the beautiful countryside for a traditional Thai cooking course. We arrived at an organic farm 30 minutes from Chaing Mai, and promptly went to work pounding green curry paste, stir-frying pad thai and chopping ingredients for papaya salad. After these dishes were cooked and eaten, we escaped to a set of hammocks overlooking rice paddies to sleep off our meal. An hour later, we were awoken by the chef to begin cooking our second round of food: fresh spring rolls and mango sticky rice. It was a successfully glutenous day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7-Eleven's are on every corner in Thailand and are the perfect place to escape the heat (the AC is always on full blast). You can find everything from soy chocolate milk to fresh mango, and even pay for bus tickets at the checkout counter. Even the most run down 7-Eleven in Thailand is more helpful than most of our hostels were in India.
Almost equal to the number of 7-Elevens in Chiang Mai are the number of Thai massage parlors. In an effort to discern the quality establishments from the ones looking to prey on backpackers, we followed the suggestion of our guesthouse owners and went to their favorite place. A Thai massage is more in line with a 60 minute full body stretch session than a traditional western relaxation massage, which is why they get mixed reviews from travelers. The masseuse takes full advantage of their feet, legs, elbows and forearms in their attempt to stretch and contort our bodies into once thought impossible positions… and we loved  it. At $6 USD for a full hour, it is no surprise that I returned a few days later for a follow up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One afternoon we took out 40-year-old rented bikes and ventured to the only public park in the Old City. To our delight, the park was in pristine condition and full of westerners doing acro yoga, tai chi, and slacklining. We spent the next few hours doing yoga, reiki, reading, napping and admiring the acrobatics going on around us.
I’ve been getting beard trims throughout our time abroad, but the time had come for a proper haircut. We asked our guesthouse for a recommendation, and after showing us on the map where the nearest place is, they warned us not to go after 5pm because that’s when the barbers start drinking. It was 7pm... and we decided to give it a go anyway.  When we showed up the whole family was having a big feast outside the parlor, complete with several bottles of alcohol scattered on the tables. They greeted us with big smiles and welcoming “Sawadees” (hello in Thai), and we asked, “Haircut?” A woman who looked like she hadn’t been drinking (too much) jumped up and led us inside. She threw a towel over my shoulders, we exchanged less than 10 words about what I wanted, and she started clipping away. Twenty minutes later, I had a fresh haircut and beard trim. If she had been drinking, she hid it well.
Tumblr media
Once a quiet and somewhat remote town in Northern Thailand, Pai is now properly on the backpacker trail in SE Asia and can easily be accessed from Chiang Mai by a 4 hour minivan ride than includes 762 turns (they sell shirts in Pai say “I survived the 762 turns to Pai”). Once you make it through the harrowing journey, you are greeted by a delightful town full of vegan restaurants, reggae bars & backpacker bungalows. Pai tends to get a bad rap from old timers and long term travellers because of how rapidly it has changed over the last 10 years, but to us it was an oasis. The resort -- yes we stayed at a “resort” -- where we spent the week was 12 dollars a night for a private bungalow, which included a fabulous free yoga class each morning along with free breakfast.
Tumblr media
We hiked one afternoon with our new friends from Auckland to a waterfall just outside of town. Per a few blogs online, we learned that a dog often serves as a tour guide on this particular hike. 15-minutes into the hike, a gorgeous pup strolls out of the woods and joins our ranks. For the next three hours Winston (as we named him) guided us through two dozen river crossings and patiently waited as we took photos at the waterfall. When we were ready to turn around and head home, Winston once again took the lead and showed us the way. Thanks for everything, Winston!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Pai we went to the 12th Annual Pai Reggae Music Festival. Their were ads all over town highlighting the event, saying the festival was on Saturday and Sunday, started at mid-day and was located on the grounds of a specific hotel just outside of town. We popped the hotel name in Google Maps, saw it was a few mile walk from our place, and opted out of taking a taxi. After a 2.5 mile walk in the hills we made it to the festival!
Tumblr media
Just kidding. Google Maps was wrong. We were nowhere near the reggae fest. We headed back into town, and ended up teaming up with other lost souls who were also searching for this mystical festival.
Tumblr media
After another 2 miles, we finally made it! It was 4pm, and we soon learned that the festival didn’t start until 7pm. Our first question to ticket counter… “Why does your poster say mid-day?” Their response was, “Great question.”
We headed to the nearest restaurant to grab a beer, and found out that the entire restaurant was full of festival goers who also showed up too early and were now killing time playing cards, drinking beer and swapping travel tales.
We returned at 7pm with a whole crew of new friends, and boogied until midnight. Who doesn’t love Thai men singing in English with a Rasta accent? We sure did.
Tumblr media
Camryn found a picture on Instagram a few weeks ago of a gorgeous sunrise in an obscure corner of Northeast Thailand that we hadn’t read about in any of our guide books. We asked a few people if they had heard of this magical place called Phu Chi Fa, and no one recognized the name. Immediately, we were intrigued. After two weeks in Chiang Mai and Pai, we were craving an off-the-beaten-track adventure. We got it, no doubt.
After a quick Google search, we read a few blog posts from travellers (dating back 4-5 years) saying that this town was their favorite in all of Thailand and not be missed. Details on getting there were hard to come by, as some said they took a bus there… others said the bus was no longer running and were forced to rent a motorcycle... some hired a private taxi. We chanced it on faith, and showed up at the bus station in Chiang Rai looking wide eyed for a sign saying Phu Chi Fa. And we found it :)
Tumblr media
After a casual 3 hour bus ride, we were dropped off in front of a police station in a tiny village that only exists so people can visit the Phu Chi Fa mountain at sunrise. We read online that English is not spoken here, so we were all prepped and ready to use our hand signals and phone calculator to aid in bargaining. After a 15-minute walk down the only street, we found a gem of a guesthouse. We dropped our bags, ate a forgettable meal at a roadside restaurant by pointing at pictures of food on the wall, and went to bed early. Tomorrow’s adventure would come in only a few hours.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our phone alarms greeted us at 3:30, 3:35, 3:40 and 3:45 am. We were out the door at 4am heading back to the police station to catch a songthaew (like a pickup truck with benches in the back) to take us halfway up the mountain. We were dropped within a 30 minute hike up to the top of Phu Chi Fa mountain, which we eagerly scampered up by headlamp with all of our warm clothes on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We were one of the first to the top, however within the hour nearly 300 Thai tourists joined us. Not another westerner in sight, to our delight.
Tumblr media
Trying to describe the sunrise would do its beauty a disservice, so I’ll just leave you with the pictures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a few hours enjoying the sunrise, we were back in front of the police station eating banana pancakes waiting for our bus to depart at 9am. Our next destination was Chiang Khong, a city on the border between Thailand and Laos. We arrived at our guesthouse in Chiang Khong and expected our $6USD a night room to be somewhat of a dump, and planned on heading into Laos the next morning. To our surprise, we were greeted by a gorgeous pool and fast wi-fi. Needless to say, we stayed two nights and spent a full day relaxing poolside. Treat yourself, right?
Tumblr media
You’ll hear all about Laos in our next post by Cam. Thanks for reading!
Best, JJ

Andy Murray’s comeback after nearly a yr out with a hip damage resulted in a slim defeat by Nick Kyrgios within the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s.
The Briton misplaced 2-6 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 in opposition to the Australian world quantity 21.
Murray, now ranked 156th on this planet, was taking part in his first aggressive match since dropping at Wimbledon final yr.
The 31-year-old examined Kyrgios, 23, in an encouraging efficiency, saving two match factors earlier than dropping in two hours and 39 minutes on court docket.
Former world primary Murray insisted he was not specializing in successful in opposition to Kyrgios, however was solely desirous about the best way his physique would address the rigours of taking part in an ATP tour match.
But he seemed heading in the right direction for a victory few gave him hope of reaching after so lengthy out of the sport.
True, Kyrgios – a mercurial and unpredictable participant – was not totally targeted in an erratic first set, ultimately switching on mentally to combat again in opposition to his good buddy.
Neither Kyrgios’ show, nor the consequence, ought to take something away from Murray’s efficiency.
Though there have been durations the place Murray seemed understandably rusty, all of the aspects of the three-time Grand Slam champion’s recreation – correct serving, shot-making, dogged defence, court docket protection and can to win – have been seen at occasions in entrance of a packed residence crowd in London.
Understandably, he light within the decider – his shot choice letting him down within the ultimate recreation as a double fault allowed Kyrgios to take his third match level.
“It was nice to see him again and see him wholesome,” mentioned Kyrgios, who beat Murray for the primary time on the sixth try and goes on to face British primary Kyle Edmund within the final 16.
Murray proves he’s match sufficient to compete
Murray’s highway again to the court docket has been a protracted one – 342 days to be exact – and one which he admits left him “very involved” about his restoration.
Limping closely at Wimbledon final yr, it was outstanding he managed to succeed in the final eight earlier than dropping in 5 units in opposition to American Sam Querrey – the final time we noticed him on a match court docket earlier than Tuesday.

“I used to be in a nasty place,” he mentioned this week. “I may barely stroll.”
Relaxation and recuperation was tried in a bid to handle the issue earlier than he determined to have surgical procedure in January.
The Scot says he isn’t freed from ache and doesn’t anticipate his hip to be excellent.
Regardless of that, he believes he can nonetheless be extra aggressive than he was a yr in the past – and so it proved in opposition to Kyrgios.
He confirmed few indicators of restricted or troubled motion, scampering often throughout the baseline and sprinting forwards to the online.
Nevertheless, there have been worrying indicators at the beginning of the third – Murray holding his decrease again after which beginning to limp.
Nonetheless he dug deep, displaying he has not misplaced any of his combating spirit, nor any of his will to win, earlier than Kyrgios got here by.
What subsequent for Murray?
Wimbledon? That’s the huge query to which, as but, we would not have a definitive reply.
Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion in 2013 and 2016, is hoping to be match sufficient to play within the championships which begin on 2 July.
However he has been understandably cautious about his expectations.
Within the build-up to his return, Murray pointedly mentioned there can be no ensures about how his physique would really feel after taking part in competitively once more.
And though he seemed in good condition over three units at Queen’s, he’ll want to verify he is able to compete over 5 at Wimbledon.
Proficient & unpredictable – Kyrgios entertains
Murray and Kyrgios have grow to be good buddies, based mostly on shared humour and a love of soccer pc video games amongst different issues, resulting in loads of “instantaneous banter” – within the phrases of Kyrgios – within the locker room and on social media.
That led the enigmatic Australian to say earlier than the match he was “the perfect man” for Murray to play on his comeback.
Definitely he was within the opening set.
Kyrgios didn’t look totally engaged and gave the impression to be taking part in under full pelt, entertaining the group with ‘hotdog’ photographs by the legs and mid-air twirls as he waited for top balls.
After which his ferocious serving – simply wanting 140mph – turned extra erratic as momentum turned in Murray’s favour.
He made 4 double faults as Murray broke for 4-2, then produced one other – after video expertise dominated his first serve was marginally out – on set level.
Nevertheless, he was extra targeted within the ultimate two units and got here by to succeed in the final 16.
‘Extraordinary efficiency’ – evaluation
Former Nice Britain Davis Cup captain John Lloyd on BBC Two: “The expectations are going to rise on Andy Murray after this efficiency. He nonetheless has a bit of labor to do, however for a primary match again it was outstanding.
“The primary set seemed like a traditional first set. He made a number of errors and within the third he performed nicely. It was a rare efficiency contemplating he has been out for almost a yr.”
Former British primary Andrew Fort: “Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer could have taken word of this efficiency, and so will the remainder of the tour. I think most thought that it was over for Andy Murray, however now I’m very optimistic for the long run. It is incredible that he is again.
“I am undecided how he will get on in 5 units at Wimbledon however I’m so glad he is again on the market doing what he loves doing most.”
BBC tennis correspondent Russell Fuller: “After 342 days on the sidelines, and with comparatively little time on the observe court docket within the tank, this was a outstanding and promising comeback.
“Murray is aware of he’s at the start of an arduous climb up the rankings, however his motion, pace throughout the court docket and focus ranges have been all vastly encouraging – as was the best way he saved two match factors after two and a half hours on court docket.
“Murray will now wait to see how his physique recovers earlier than deciding his subsequent transfer. He may take a late wildcard into subsequent week’s Eastbourne event, or maybe choose to play a few exhibition matches.
“Will he make it to Wimbledon? It’s too early to inform. Murray spent an hour longer on court docket in opposition to Kyrgios than he has executed in any observe session since surgical procedure and doesn’t but know whether or not his physique is prepared for 5 units.”

Sites For Sale Dublin - An Overview
Referral Reputation usually means that you have ceased the daily grind of trying to sell/buy houses. You become inactive, however if you stage somebody who wants to purchase or sell a house for the realestate company, you obtain a percentage of their commission. Say goodbye to pleasure and leisuretime. Here's a week: • Friday. Mailings, customer searching. CHAPTER 6: THE CLIENTS CHAPTER 5: THE "Oldtimers" This provider that "hired" you will now send one to a training "school" (all these are organizations which, to get a price tag, educate you on exactly concerning the actual estate business and allow you to pass their state necessary evaluation). Here is 2 months of classes that have related to the career. At several occasions during the week, then you're going to receive yourself a two hour stints. The idea is the fact that clients will call in looking for a realtor since they've a house they need to purchase. I'd suppose that this has occurred after in the history of authentic estate. The majority phone calls to the oldtimers. You did not think such a thing was liberated, did you? Here's the rundown about charges: If you are lucky enough to find someone to express they will use one to offer their own house, you need to know that their house is worth much more than the one three doors down which is exactly the same. Exactly why? I don't understand. They're delusional. Maybe they're dumb. Maybe they're covetous. Maybe they're upside-down on the house. Maybe they just want the money. It is probably each of the above. • Thursday. No Thing is needed. Here is your weekend, enjoy. Don't spend money there's no necessity it. I'm sure it is different in YOUR area, however, and so they're telling you the facts when they state so... When I say "old timers", I am speaking to the agents which happen to be at office for over the usual year. Since they assume one to really be absent in a month or two they are going to make eye contact at 1st and so they don't really need to waste their period. Once you've been there for 2 weeks, they'll start providing you with the "prospect" to sit down in their receptive houses on these. What they're actually asking you to do is sit in a house for 3 hours that no 1 will visit, and basically sell it to get these, to the offchance that you can find yourself a client from it. • Business cards. They are free! Well, sort of. The basic, crappy versions are free, the ones which scream "I am new for the!" You've got to pay for to get ones that are nice, using a film, and also you've got to pay for the movie. You will probably be asked to fundamentally alienate everybody by begging for referrals, you realize and make situations. Events, church, college, the gymnasium - everywhere...that you need to be angling for house customers or house vendors. It is horribly awkward for everybody concerned. Don't neglect to utilize the R pin you go! Their perfect agent is somebody who is miserable and divorced, sitting down on a heap of money money or an available field of credit, also just needs something to keep them busy. Next in line is simply, also some body who is married, sitting on an open line of credit or a pile of dollars needs something to keep them out of the house and far from their spouse. If you're not one of these two, that's OK - you'll be taken by them. It's weird to be involved a substantial financial project for someone who you realize. They will use you to buy or sell a house, but no one wants you to know their monetary business, therefore it's tough. Your family and friends might need little favors, like...they'll need all of their money back. Yes, badly. I had a relative petition when I'd give them back all of my commission if they utilized me to obtain a house. I dropped, and also the request was the nail that secured my property coffin shut. • Saturday. Mandatory coaching...every day. Done with all the mandatory 15-week coaching? Start off education that repeats that which they taught you in the 1-5 week training! CHAPTER 7: Your Lifetime AS a Realtor • Associations. The County Realtor Affiliation. It's mandatory that you combine it. It costs money...every yr. Their State Realtor Affiliation. It's mandatory that you join it. It charges income...each calendar year. The National Realtor Association. It's mandatory that you combine it. It charges money...each calendar year. Combine this organization. Join this organization. You will secure a publication, and possibly even a snaredown. It's all mandatory, and it all costs money. They have complimentary biscuits at the conferences however. • Tuesday. In-house coaching, or "just how to squander 3 stable hours of prime job time." I am 1 man. The Realtor's affiliation is a conglomerate that has lawyers around the payroll. My brother in law is an attorney...however I still feel outnumbered. So you're going to see that I refer to real estate agents, not Realtors. • Monday. Mandatory meetings and house tours. The meeting is more useless, and that's the reason you may rarely see old-timers there, they slough off following the house and end upward God-knows-where. They are likely at the pub. The tour is pretty fun, even even though. You have to hear everyone else whine about everything that they work with and everything from the houses. You get to stroll through a stranger's house and hear your co-workers (proudly displaying their title badges) criticize the homeowner's choices whatsoever. Cases: What were believing for this particular carpeting? Have they cleaned the particular room? Wow, those are some ugly kiddies in this picture. I can not think they abandon Prozac AND Paxil . Realestate offices are constantly listing positions, so it's easy to find an interview. As you know what, avoid being overly anxious? You are hired. This is simply not a meeting, it truly is a Peptalkabout You could walk in and inhale at the reception, you're probably hired. • real estate agent fees make you the "Realtor" pin. This really is. CHAPTER 3: LICENSING CHAPTER 4: Costs, FEES and FEES There are laws that state that while your certification training is taking place at a realestate office, that no one from that office may "amuse" you. Expect to get recruited. One of the instructors was a Business X manager and obtained a special interest. He required me to start open houses at high priced homes during the months of practice, introduced me to everybody at any office, took me and also took me out. The entire time, '' he spoke about how Business Y (who had sent me into this practice) was horrible, and why Company X was way superior, and definitely the place for me personally. Moral? No. Interesting? Indeed. I still went as it had been the right point to do together with the organization that delivered me. This usually means that if you own a person that wishes to market their house for $330,000 but you and everybody else understand it won't bring £250,000, you tell them which you will list it for his or her price, and after that gradually enable the price drop when people chuckle at your house. CHAPTER 2: THE INTERVIEW Bear in mind that you have two choices here: you can either become a Realtor or you can become a Realtor. Yes, you read that right. I'll make no judgments on the value of this organization, with the exception of to say that sitting through the most boring training ever nets you a tiny R pin. Absolutely nothing says I am a triumph a lot better compared to a pin using an R on it...right next to a name tag. Ethics principle #1 is "only acquire the listing." • Automobile. They'll pay for the car! No, they won't. If you are 1 among the very best 2 manufacturers, and would be happy to place a God-awful giant decal over the sides and rear of your (correctly colored) car or truck, they will pay a nominal amount to youpersonally. Why not they? It. CHAPTER 10: AFTERTHOUGHTS • Cardkey. Now you require this to access into any house that's up for sale. Yes, you have to pay for it. And also they The original source can't send it; you need to drive 30 miles to pick it up. • Tip 3: Everyone you realize will soon feign encourage when questioning your choice and making fun of you personally. I'm critical, and you know that this. You have despised with, did you not? • Office Assist. They despise you. The day that I met with Travisthat he was at the middle of a hissy-fit because somebody had murdered his Cross pen. Because it's not like that they sell them in drug stores for a few dollars, this really is clear. Yes, even they are indeed sold by them . Even the fit lasted one hour or so, and contained our manager sending a telephone message to every single agent from any office to please return the pen should they had it. Travis also maintained a watch that one would use to send out these mailings. You had to ask the precise number to get them. You will find 25 in the sheet and also you would not get three sheets when you're printing 6-8 labels. And keep in mind, exclamation points are used by top producers! Tons of these! They perform! Only an FYI. I suggest a FYI!!!! • Licensing. If you talk to a true estate corporation you choose the class and obtain licensed earlier, they will cover the class. Well, kind of. They'll pay for it, then spend the commission back out of your commission. Wait patiently, who's paid because of it then? It's true, you did. You did not think that was free, did you really? You are hated by them. • computer systems. Don't know a computer system? Do not stress, no one else can. Everybody I worked with was horrible with any instrument that is technology-related, although idon't know why. They needed help and the PC's were always down having a virus of some kind. • Sunday. No more football matches, family picnics, etc.. as you require to take a seat in Open Houses. This is my narrative. Don't let it change your mind if you want to goes into the world of residential property estate. I had a previous property agent explain to me what a idea that it was and that I went together with my program that is idiotic. • Mailings. I lucked out with firm Y, and they also cover for mailings. This means the marketing stuff are provided by them and they pay the postage for a certain total be sent out. A Rottweiler protected speeches you might send mail to's database at our office, a man I will phone Travis. Travis was exceptionally tan year-round, with hair, also he had been dressed as a 1970's JC Penny mannequin daily. If he was homosexual, I don't understand, however that I bet that his boyfriend had been. Whenever there are not enough newbies at your office, they will battle over your house-sitting attempts, and may even offer you income (do not get excited, I'm speaking about $20.) Get paid '' I never did get taken care of out helping someone. • Hint 1: There is a ton of income being produced in real real estate. It is just not likely to be made by you. In truth, a lot of it's actually going to emerge FROM you. The real estate companies themselves earn an obscene sum of money in part by fighting folks through their "apps" and spitting them out using emptier pockets. CHAPTER 9: "ETHICS" (note quote marks) •The Multi-List Technique. You simply cannot be a actual real estate representative without even access into this MLS. It must be free? No. CHAPTER 8: "Assist" (note quote marks) • Tip two: There's not any wages. Make sure that you have enough money in the bank to eat and pay your bills for 6 months. And start searching for a occupation that is actual . By the time you get it, then you're going to be out of money. I landed a position at a company 6 weeks and one day out of the day of my lay-off. When it was not for Un Employment, I would have already been living in a cardboard box awaiting for the real estate profession. You are hated by them. • Your web site. The business has set a page up to get you in the website, you require to fill it using useless ideas that no 1 cares about, such as "resident of (our overall spot) for umpteen years" along with Realtor and also "person in (Our County) Real Estate Club. None of that can help them or you, however, it does fill the webpage, even though no 1 can appear at it. It's possible to place up a picture . Whatever you have to do is pick up the telephone, tell the business telephone number and their title and where they're searching. What exactly is? NOW it's payday. I understand people who made on referrals than I did as a real estate agent, many occasions around. You didn't think that was liberated, although there's a charge to become from the app, did you? Also to remain "referral status" you require to take ongoing coaching. • Signs. Big signs, indicators, plastic signs, metal signs, name signs, for sale signs, open house signals. You've got to have them, you need to cover these, plus so they cost tens of thousands of dollars. • Name tag. Great information is absolutely free. The awful news, you have to put on a name label. Back after I experienced a real project, '' I knew a gentleman who always said "In case a man must put on a name label throughout his job, he is not so profitable." I'd a gorgeous Ford Mustang GT when I got this "job". I purchased it because I had been told that you need to take your clients all over the spot to view houses. Out together with the sport car, in addition to the Volvo station wagon (at the horrible corporate shade, needless to say.) As it turns out, no 1 wants to ride with their real estate agent; they want to follow you about. This is for many reasons: that they could escape you when they need, so they may discuss the houses without you hearing them (even though you are not their trusted adviser)...oh, plus they despise you. I truly overlook that Mustang. • Wednesday. "Twilight" open houses. This means that your nighttime is shot. How does one make matters? You will get their country included! CHAPTER 1): SOME Swift Rookie 'S TIPS • totally free trips! 5 years from now, if you beat perform hrs ALL the likelihood and sell all that you buy near, you may possibly find yourself a complimentary journey. Don't hold your breath.

As the first female operative at Alpha Security, Charlotte "Charlie" Sparks has her work cut out for her. Sure, she can wrestle a man to the ground and hit a target at 200 yards with the best of them. But sometimes, being surrounded by all that testosterone can drive a woman to distraction—especially when that distraction is six-and-a-half feet of cocky, confident, Alpha-trained muscle.
Ex-SEAL commander Vince Franklin has been on some of the most dangerous missions in the world. But pretending to be Charlie's fiancé on their latest assignment in Miami is his toughest challenge yet. Vince and Charlie are like oil and water; they just don't mix. And when their fake romance generates some all-too-real heat, Vince learns that Charlie is more than just arm candy. She's the real deal—and she's ready for some serious action.
EXCERPT
Vince slipped out of the truck just as she swung open her door. A group of college-aged boys turned the corner, one of whom immediately latched his lurid gaze onto Charlie’s toned legs.
“Hot damn, baby.” The kid whistled. His gaze flickered to Vince. “Why don’t you ditch the geriatric and come party with us?”
“Unless you want this geriatric to rip those lips off your face, keep walking,” Vince growled.
The kid and his friends laughed but kept going. At some point during the exchange, the pimply faced valet attendant extended his hand to Charlie.
“I got her. You get these.” Vince’s bark made the teen jump.
“Yes, sir.” The valet caught the keys Vince tossed his way and hustled over to the driver’s side.
Every inch of Charlie’s body brushed along Vince’s as he plucked her off her seat and set her back on her feet. The hair on his arms lifted as if he’d touched pure electricity, and in a way, he had. Charlie. A live wire. Jolting. Heat-inducing.
Her teeth trapped her bottom lip in a sexy nibble. Vince couldn’t help but glance down to her mouth, seeing that he wasn’t the only one overtaken by a sudden burst of awareness.
“If I’d been the one to offer my hand to you, you would’ve taken a hunk of flesh out of it with your teeth,” Vince half-joked.
She smoothed the front of his shirt, a coy smile dancing on her lips. “Not a hunk. Maybe just a little nibble.”
Sucking in a groan, Vince wrapped an arm around her waist and guided her away from the truck as another large group of college-aged kids stumbled past.
Charlie let out a strangled noise.
“What?” Vince looked at her, confused.
She bit the corner of her mouth, obviously trying to withhold laughter. “You and the look of excruciating pain plastered all over your face. You can’t tell me you’ve never prowled the bars looking for a good time.”
Vince steered them toward the entrance of the club’s outdoor patio. “Yeah, a million fucking years ago. And I didn’t have to prowl for anything. Good times always came to me.”
This time Charlie snorted with her chuckle, and the sound of it made his lips twitch. It was goddamned cute, though he would never admit it aloud and risk a punch to his kidneys.
“It’s a wonder headquarters hasn’t blown up from testosterone toxicity,” Charlie murmured as they stepped to the end of the club’s red-roped line.
The bouncer manning the entrance took a lazy-eyed stroll over Charlie’s body. “You two together?”
Vince cocked a glance to his arm, still wrapped snugly around her waist. “What do you think?”
“I think it’s too damn bad. But you both can go on in. And if your lady’s interested, there’s a bar-dancing competition sometime within the hour.” He eyed Charlie’s legs. “You’re a shoe-in for first fucking prize, sweetheart.”
Vince would’ve loved nothing more than to swipe the smirk off the bastard’s face, but Charlie intervened, threading her fingers through his, and thanked the man for the invite. The people in line grumbled their protests as the bouncer opened the gate and let them onto the club’s patio.
Miami Heat lured in a who’s who of the rich, famous, and privileged. Whereas the indoor section of the club catered to the couples dancing to the loud, theatrical pound of the music, the outdoor patio was a pool party on ’roids.
White Christmas lights wrapped every palm tree and, and as if Miami wasn’t hot enough, bamboo torches lit up the patio’s perimeter. Humidity didn’t seem to be keeping people away, because the line wrapped around the circular bar was three people deep, and growing.
“Don’t people have anything better to do than spend their money on overpriced booze?” Vince asked, inspecting the sea of drunk people.
Charlie lifted her brow. “In Miami? No. It’s all about twenty-dollar drinks and lots and lots of skin. You’re such a people person, Navy. It’s a wonder you don’t have an entire entourage surrounding you all hours of the day.”
“And you’re such the sparkling social gem, huh?” Vince said dryly. A pair of overly bronzed women skirted past, outrageously wearing less than Charlie. “I wasn’t the one who nearly made the pizza delivery boy cry because he mistakenly left behind my order of fried mushrooms.”
“No, but now I’m sure that Christopher will never forget them again. That’s the difference between us. I don’t see any point in hiding my displeasure, where you take the whole brooding in silence thing and turn it into an art form.”
“Some things can’t be changed by making a scene.”
Charlie turned toward him, the side of her breast brushing against his chest. “No, but sometimes it can make you feel a lot bloody better. Unleash the beast, Navy. Or at the very least, loosen the reins. You may be surprised at what happens.”
When he’d been with the SEAL teams, Vince wouldn’t have hesitated to let off a little steam—and without prompting. But both time and experience had taught him the error of his ways. He’d learned it at the end of his Navy career, had it drilled into his head working for bail enforcement, and now with Alpha, it had become almost second nature—except when Charlie was in close proximity. Then all those lessons flew out of his fucking head.
“You want to make ourselves visible?” Vince slipped his hand over her hip and veered her toward the dance floor. “Hope you can dance in those stilts.”

2017
Zanzibar: island of mystery, monkeys and spice, and a place I was lucky enough to visit over the Christmas break, with an old friend from Scotland.
I confess I knew very little about Zanzibar.  All my life I have assumed it was just an exotic fantasy, like Neverland, somewhere far away.  In fact it lies just off the coast of Tanzania. Our thirty minute flight in a tiny thirteen seat Cessna was thrilling, and a reminder of what fun flying must once have been like. Everyone including the pilot was smiling. As we flew out to sea I sat with my nose stuck to the window, staring down at clear blue green water, looking out over-optimistically for dolphins and whales.
We hung around Stone Town for a few days, wandering up and down the narrow maze of winding passages passing between gorgeous old buildings, marvelling at the wildly coloured fabrics and fabulous wooden tribal masks on sale in the tiny shops.  There are two fabulous food markets, one open during the day and the other in the evening. If you are bored with life and need spice to spice it up then go visit them at once. The night market is a particular delight.  Local food is cooked and served from a mass of stalls in the public gardens situated in front of a grand old building called The House of Wonders.  The buildings are stunning, most a splendid mix of Arab and Indian architecture, with elaborately carved wooden doors and balconies, and ancient staircases leading up to fabulous roof terraces, all with glorious views over the rooftops and out to a deep blue sea.
The place is indeed an assault on the senses; the smells of the food markets, the taste of spice liqueurs, and the sight of the vibrant colour combinations and patterns - especially in the fabrics and clothing.  Along the walls at the side of the walkways there are stone ledges, where neighbours and stall holders can sit and talk. It makes for a very social and integrated place and I bet that’s why the local people are so warm and friendly.
A local guide showed us round. His dates I think were not particularly accurate, and he tended to cough over us as he spoke, but once we had got used to that, we were able to take in much about the history of the place, the influence of the Arabs, Portuguese, Indians and British, and that was all we needed. He took us to the food markets, the old fort and to Freddie Mercury’s modest art deco apartment block.
He left us in the slave museum and that was intensely moving. The scale of brutality, and inhumanity that was the slave trade was deeply shocking, and I left feeling heavy-hearted and humbled.
Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar were vital to the slave trade because these were the main destinations the slaves were dragged to, having been torn from their homes deep in the countryside, to be sold and exported around the world.  So before we left Stone Town it seemed like a good idea to take a trip in a little wooden boat to Prison Island and to a prison built for slaves.  I would not recommend the trip. The prison itself hasn’t much to offer the curious holidaymaker, and the only things imprisoned on the island now are giant turtles. We were handed sticks of cabbage and led like sheep around their grubby enclosure so we could feed them. These creatures are a marvel to behold, some are well over a hundred years old, but I’d rather not see them like this, trapped and humiliated, kept away from the sea, left to wallow in mud and shit so they can have tourists wave cabbage in their faces.  Man kills most of them off and now because there are only very few left, he keeps them in this filthy enclosure and makes money getting us to feed them.  These wretched beasts have surely suffered enough.
On the last evening we sat in Stone Town’s coolest bar, situated perfectly on the beach beside the port, and we watched the sun go down and the throng of families, tourists, acrobatic youths and small children dressed in their colourful Sunday best, having such fun swimming and larking about in the sand.  Once darkness had fallen, we watched an old dhow return to shore, heavily laden with fifty guests from a marriage party, their smart white costumes lit up in the darkness by the lights from the bars, and we were captivated by the sight of them climbing out of the boat like ghosts, onto the beach one by one.
After a final wander around those crumbling and enchanting lanes of Stone Town, we said farewell, and travelled to the other side of the Island, to a small coastal village and resort called Uroa. Not a great hotel, quiet enough, but for the nauseating sound of piped western pop constantly in the background.  This is why I don’t go on holidays much. I hate the compromises, sitting with the holiday makers, listening to piped music, feeling obliged to behave like seaside sheep, sun-bathing, lying by the pool, scuba-diving and snorkelling, and worst of all, being fed hotel food that tries so hard to be homogeneous international cuisine, but fails miserably and tastelessly.
Our rooms were pleasant, a few steps away from a beach and the sea was warm and inviting, despite not being crystal clear. I didn’t do enough research in advance, because the seaweed-less coastlines are up the coast.  No matter.  We lazed on the beach for a couple of hours, then strolled at sunset along the white sand and watched swarms of white crabs galavanting comically around our feet. We walked on to an empty restaurant at the end of the bay. It’s owner, a local man who wanted to be called Charlie, kept us chatting for an hour, trying to persuade us to eat at his restaurant, buy from his shop stocked with tee-shirts and colourful shawls, or hire snorkels from him, or maybe boats, taxis, dolphins - anything to earn him some income.  We managed to distract him from his salesman frenzy, and he was happy to chat about Tanzanian politics, and about life on the beach and especially the fishing. He told us tales of a local ninety-two year old man they call ‘Grandad’  who owns the only big fishing boat in the bay, and starts his nightly fishing at 1am. I would have liked to meet this man.  Eventually we walked back to our fairly terrible hotel and ate fairly terrible food, but it didn’t really matter. The big black sky was full of bright shining stars and I decided it was going to be OK.
We returned to the restaurant the following night because my friend was keen to taste Charlie’s lobster.   Sure enough, he served lobster, shrimps, calamari and snapper and it was all great, though he never gave up trying to sell me a Zanzibar football shirt.
I’d got used to the idea of lounging about on a beach under a palm tree in Uroa but in reality we were soon bored, so the following day we took a taxi ride a little way up the coast to another bay, principally to find some decent coffee.  The instant coffee at the hotel was really starting to irritate me.  We were lucky, for this bay was full of Italian hotels and restaurants. It was odd to find the children shouting out ‘Ciou!’ at us and the local Maasai speaking fluent Italian. But I got my fresh coffee.
Near the end of our stay we took a boat excursion which began at nine and finished at six. Luckily it was little cloudy in the morning, but I still bronzed quite a bit.  I admit that on the very few occasions I subject myself to continuous sunshine,  I find I bronze well. I don’t go through the blobby red phase, and instead go straight to olive and then brown. Must be my Mediterranean roots.
The boat was an old dhow and the guide promised us we’d sail back, but the captain kept to his outboard motor on throughout the trip. This was a bit disappointing because these old dhows fascinate me. They have one crooked mast and one cross beam for a triangular sail.
I love watching these boats at sea and it would have been great to be sailing in one. Hey-ho, no doubt there will be other chances.
Our boat seemed to start leaking fairly soon after we had left the beach, so the captain’s brother, a middle aged weather-beaten man with a club foot, spent much of the time bailing out water with a plastic container, cut open at the top. We travelled for an hour to a spot where lots of tourists are taken, and we snorkelled about a bit in a clear shallow lagoon. Not many fish about of course, but a few colourful ones, hanging around the coral. A bit later,  on the way to a beach where lunch was to be served,  someone spotted a fish in the water. We stopped and the captain’s boy jumped into the water with a rusty spear and caught it. It was one of those round ball-shaped fish with white spikes. They caught a couple more and kept them half dead in the boat. That started to annoy me.  I’d gone to watch fish, not spear and torture them. My friend had moaned that there weren’t many fish about and then minutes later we were watching the few that are left being killed.  You can’t have your cake and eat it, nor can you expect to see fish once you’ve fished them all out. The four Italians on board were happy to take photos of the wretched fish, held up on a rusty spike for our delight, but soon fish will be as rare as lions. I hear tuna stocks have already collapsed in the Indian ocean.  Day and night the seas around here are fished for octopus to fill the plates of the white holiday-makers staying in smart hotels all along the coast, who think it cool to eat octopus.  Forgive me, dear readers who love a bit of octopus on your place, but I have to say that for me, it has no particularly nice or unique taste. People holiday in Zanzibar and eat these miraculous, mystical creatures because they’re by the sea and it’s fresh and they think it cool to eat octopus. I imagine there won’t be any octopus left soon. Or any other kind of fish in those seas. It irked me and I promised myself to be a true vegetarian as soon as the holiday was over, a promise I have since broken several times.
My bout of glumness soon passed. We stopped at the beach and ate more bloody fish, and watched families swimming in the waves, happy children with beaming faces, having fun.
On the voyage back, as we passed beautiful lush mangrove forests one of the crew started to sing.  He was the son of captain and both he and his voice were beautiful. After the song ended, everyone aboard clapped and his uncle, the man with the club foot, cheered so heartily he fell off the boat.  One of the three elegant Italian women on board turned to the African guy who was organising the tour,  pointed to the young lad and said ‘singer’ and then without a hint of humour she pointed to his uncle who was just climbing back in the boar at the other end of the boat and said ‘ballerina..'
The lad sang more songs with his enchanting voice and of course we all lapped it up and captured him on our phones.
The lad’s uncle started to accompany the young singer.  I felt momentarily uneasy, watching these locals turn into dancing bears because they knew we would tip more generously at the end of the trip. But the music was great.  At first the songs he sang sounded very traditional African but after a while I realised they were modern songs. The movements he made looked at first to be traditional african dance moves but I realised that he was just imitating moves and gestures from the pop video. That made me smile - ordinary people taking back the manufactured music from the pop world and turning it into something they could own and re-interpret.  Here the synthetic engineered beats of a pop tune were replaced by a simple rhythm hammered out on the bottom of a plastic container…
This plastic container was in fact the same one that had been used to bail out water. No one seemed to mind, and we didn’t sink, so that was ok.  At times like these I’m relieved there’s not much Health and Safety here in Africa.
On New Year’s eve we had nowhere else to eat so we wandered up the beach back to Charlie’s place. I was sceptical but it turned out to be a lovely night.  We ended up sitting around Charlie’s cozy beach fire with four smart young Swedes who had also wandered up there. We ate more fish and drank local beer and it was a very pleasant way to bring in the new year.  Thank you Charlie.
Before we left the Island we took a trip to Paje, a quirky little port a few miles further down the coast.  We chatted to some friendly locals, including the manager of the local supermarket, who wanted to practice his French, so he could converse with the herds of French holiday-makers flocking to the town every year.  The beach however was heaving with families, surfers, kite surfers, snorkelers and divers, all white faces, oiled up with sun-tan lotion.  We grabbed a quick cappuccino and didn’t stay long.  Sometimes I think I am turning into a grumpy old fart.
We flew back to a Dar a couple of days later and despite breaking three pairs of glasses and losing my phone, I am pleased to announce that I had both a relaxing and an inspiring break on Zanzibar. I would recommend it to you, but go soon if you can. I sense unfettered tourism will soon destroy much of it’s unique history and innocent charm.
20th Jan.
I’ve been back at school for two weeks and Zanzibar is once again that fantasy island a long way away. Dar is now very nearly at its
hottest, so after a long day in my baking air-con deprived classroom, I usually crawl back to my flat exhausted. The students have been amazing. I am starting to see many of them progress well in music and drama.  Many flock to the music room every break time, keen to sit and play the guitars and keyboards. That feels good, and the sight of a child carrying a musical instrument home fills me with pride.  This week I introduced several classes to that very wonderful song ‘Yesterday’ and not one of them had ever heard it before.  Who’s Paul McCartney? one asked. Ha, ha, how lovely.
And today I tried baobab juice, in a backstreet bar behind a very popular local market called Mwenge.  As you know, I have a bit of a thing about baobab trees, and look out for them wherever I go.
It was a very refreshing drink and it gave me quite a buzz.  On the television at the back of the bar, a news programme flickered away silently, reminding me of the significance of the day, and I raised my glass in quiet respect for the women around the world, including many of my dear friends in London, Paris, Germany and America, who were on the streets, protesting against the dangerous follies of rich, power hungry, ego-centric men.
When I got home I read up about baobab juice and discovered it has more vitamin C, antioxidants, fibre, calcium, magnesium, potassium than pretty much anything else on the planet. I shall be drinking more of that for sure, and so long as Trump et al don’t blow us all to oblivion, I shall probably live forever.
