C&f jungkook: why didn’t you want to talk to Jihyo while she was staying in your home? What did you do in the day OC was gone?
Jungkook: "Oh, Jihyo and I spoke. Even when I didn't want to. We spoke enough."
Jungkook: "What I did apart from that? Nothing. Less than I could've done. I tried to work, tried to figure things out. Prayed and hoped nothing was truly lost. I agonised... and I guess I loved."
Jungkook: "I was a bit out of my mind since I didn't eat and sleep enough and instead... nevermind. Nothing much, is what I did."

Chapter 36 - Too Close
Iris clutched her knees to her chest as she sat on the floor beside her bunk. Daryl was telling Beth what happened to Zach. Unfortunately, what Iris was really afraid of was that Beth didn’t care. She wouldn’t cry, wouldn’t say much. Iris told Daryl that’s what would happen, but he said he was holding out hope that they’d be okay. When he walked down the hallway and appeared in her doorway, his face told her all she needed to know.
“You told me so.” He murmured quietly. Iris nodded, looking up at him.
“Anything?” She asked. He shook his head, then paused.
“She hugged me.” He replied awkwardly. Iris raised an eyebrow and he shrugged. Well, it was more of a wince.
“And?” Iris asked. He shrugged again. Iris scoffed, shaking her head. It was almost a laugh. “Sounds like that went well, then.” He grunted in response.
“Gonna hit the sack.” He stated, his mood lightened a little more than before. Iris smiled softly.
“Goodnight.” She murmured.
“Night.” He replied, before disappearing from the doorway once more.
-
Iris waved to Carl and Rick as she walked down the gravel road in the yard. She paused as a shot echoed, coming from Cell Block D.
“Cell Block?” Maggie called from the tower.
“I don’t know!” Rick yelled in reply. Iris was already running to the courtyard.
“Walkers in D!” Glenn called as she and Rick burst through the second gate.
“What about C?” Rick asked.
“I don’t know!”
“Clear! We locked the gates to the tombs.” Sasha called as she, Daryl and Tyreese ran out from C. “Hershel’s on guard.”
“It ain’t a breach.” Daryl stated. They took off running into the cell block, Daryl immediately ripping a rifle from the hands of a man who stood there doing jack shit. People were screaming, being eaten, there was blood and gore littering the hallway. Iris just started shooting. Rick and Tyreese started ushering people out to safety while Daryl and Iris cleared the walkers.
“Check all of them! Every cell!” Rick yelled. They went through each of them, checking on those that survived, the kids, making sure no one was bit. Carol was already amputating the arm of one man. “Are we clear down here? We’re safe?”
“Yeah!” Iris called back, breaking out her knives as she and Daryl climbed up top. A walker jumped out at Glenn, Daryl calling for him to get down before putting an arrow in it’s brain. Iris leaned down, pulling back the curtain of the cell to see the walker’s face. “Oh my god.”
“Oh, it’s Patrick.” Daryl murmured. Iris’ heart sunk. He was such a good kid. What the hell happened here?
“Other cells are clear.” Glenn confirmed, walking back over. “That’s all of them.” Anyone they found dead they made sure to prevent from turning, starting to count bodies. Soft sobbing was coming from a few of the survivors, saying goodbye to their loved ones. Iris was still knelt beside Patrick, looking over his face.
“Rick?” She called softly. “We need Caleb.”
“Why? What is it?” He asked, coming over and kneeling down beside her. Glenn already ran to get the doctor they'd saved from Woodbury.
“He’s not bit. Not injured. Nothing.” Iris said, looking up. The doctor hurried in, Hershel on his heels to get a better idea of the situation. “I think… he just died.”
“Horribly, too. Pleurisy aspiration.” Dr. S concluded, looking over Patrick’s body.
“Choked to death on his own blood.” Hershel translated. “Caused those trails down his face.”
“I’ve seen them before. On a walker outside the fences.” Rick murmured.
“Saw a couple others with ‘em, too.” Daryl murmured. Iris frowned. This was bad. This was very, very bad.
“They’re from the internal lung pressure building up. Like if you shake a soda can and pop the top.” Caleb explained, looking up at them. “Only, imagine your eyes, ears, nose and throat are the top. These things happened before they were around… could be pneumococcal. Most likely an aggressive flu strain.”
“Someone locked him in just in time.” Hershel mumbled.
“So, what… theres a virus floating around now?” Iris asked, paling.
“How could somebody die in a day just from a cold?” Daryl wondered aloud.
“I had a sick pig. Died quick. Saw a sick boar in the woods.” Rick stated.
“Pigs and birds. That’s how these things spread in the past.” Hershel nodded. “We need to do something about those hogs.”
“Maybe we got lucky. Maybe these two cases are it.” Caleb suggested, though it seemed fatally hopeful.
“Come on. When are we that lucky?” Iris grumbled. “These are close quarters. We’ve all been exposed.” There was a long silence before they stood and dispersed.
-
The council sat around the table in the library, discussing their options. There wasn’t much. Iris kept picking at her nails and tried to pretend she didn’t have a headache that was worsening every passing moment.
“Patrick was fine yesterday and he died overnight.” Carol stated. “That quick? We’ll have to separate everyone that’s been exposed.”
“That’s everyone in that cell block.” Daryl replied. “That’s all of us. Maybe more.”
“We know that this sickness can be lethal. We don’t know how easily it spreads.” Hershel added.
“Can’t take any chances.” Iris shook her head.
“Is anyone else showing symptoms that we know of?” Hershel asked.
“We can’t just wait and see. There’s children.” Carol protested. “It isn’t just the illness, if people die, they become a threat.”
“Okay, well, we can’t euthanize everyone that was exposed, that’s ridiculous. We have to wait.” Iris countered.
“We need a place for them to go. They can’t stay in D.” Hershel shook his head. “We can’t risk going in there to clean it up.”
“We can use Cell Block A.” Carol offered.
“Death row? I’m not sure that’s much of an upgrade.” Glenn huffed.
“It’s clean. That’s an upgrade.” Daryl replied. “Think that’ll work for Dr. S?”
“I’ll help Caleb get it set up.” Hershel agreed, nodding. They all froze as someone coughed down the hallway. They stood, following the noise to see Tyreese escorting Karen down the hallway.
“You okay?” Tyreese asked her quietly, his arm around her shoulder. She nodded.
“You sure?” Carol asked. “You don’t sound so good.”
“I’m just taking her back to my cell so she can rest.” Tyreese replied.
“Tyreese, I don’t think that's a good idea.” Hershel said quietly.
“Why? What’s going on now?” Karen asked, frowning.
“We think it’s a flu or something.” Glenn offered, the council all looking at one another. "That’s how Patrick died.”
“Judith was in that cell block.” Hershel said to himself suddenly. “She’s vulnerable. Anyone that may be sick or even exposed should stay away.”
“I-It killed Patrick?” Karen stammered.
“She’s gonna be okay.” Tyreese assured. “Now that we know what Patrick died from, we can treat it, right?”
“Don’t panic, we’re gonna figure this out, but we should keep you separated in the meantime.” Hershel explained. “We’ll have Caleb take a look at you, and I’ll see what we have in the way of medications.”
“David from the Decatur group, he’s been coughing too.” Karen said quietly, folding her arms across her chest.
“I’ll get him.” Glenn sighed. “There’s some empty clean cells in the tombs, right?”
“Yeah, we’ll meet you there.” Sasha called. Glenn nodded, running off to find David. “Come on, let’s get your settled.” Sasha urged, leading Karen and Tyreese to the tombs. Karen covered her mouth as she walked by, fear in her eyes.
“Have to call another meeting later.” Hershel said briefly.
“Alright.” Daryl nodded. “I’ll get to burying the dead ones.”
“You wear gloves and a mask.” Hershel urged. Daryl nodded again, watching as Hershel walked off with Carol.
“You alright?” He asked, looking to Iris. She seemed paler than usual.
“Yeah, just worried.” She replied, staring into space before looking up at him. “You?”
“Mhm.” He nodded, taking a deep breath. “Got to be.” Iris nodded too, sighing.
“Here. For protection.” She handed him her bandana, placing it carefully in his palm. “Don’t get sick.”
“Thanks.” He replied, running his thumb along the centre seam. He looked up and Iris smiled softly, trailing off down the hallway.
Iris found Carl in the cafeteria area they’d turned into a little games room for the kids, with puzzles and board games and comic books they’d found on runs. He was seated in the middle of the floor, with wire, a hammer, nails and a few pieces of wood around him. He turned to her, holding up a wooden cross he made, a grave marker.
“Do you know if Patrick was catholic?” He asked. Iris sighed, sitting down at the table beside him.
“He was proud to say he was a practicing atheist.” Iris replied, recalling the fond memory. Carl frowned, turning back to the marker and taking it apart. “I’m sorry, Carl. I know you two were friends.”
“Not really.” Carl replied softly, sighing.
“Still.” Iris breathed. “You doing okay?”
“I have to be.” Carl replied with a shrug, turning to look at her. Iris sighed.
“A popular sentiment.” She murmured.
-
Iris felt sick as she looked over the charred bodies Tyreese had discovered. He came running as soon as he found them, out in one of the small back courtyards for solitary inmates. Iris, Carol, Tyreese, Daryl and Rick stood around the burned corpses of Karen and David in shock.
“You found them like this?” Rick asked, fist clenched.
“I came to see Karen.” Tyreese all but whispered. “I saw the blood on the floor. Then I smelled them. Somebody dragged them out here and set them on fire! They killed them and set them on fire!” He cried, his voice breaking. He turned to Rick abruptly, causing Daryl to jump, ready to take him down if need be. “You’re a cop.” Tyreese hissed. “You find out who did this and you bring ‘em to me, you understand? You bring ‘em to me.”
“We’ll find out who—“ Daryl put a hand on his arm to console him, but Tyreese ripped out of his grip.
“I need to say it again?” Tyreese questioned. Rick sighed, shifting his weight.
“No, no. I know what you’re feeling. I’ve been there. You saw me there. It’s dangerous—“
“Karen didn’t deserve this. David didn’t deserve it. Nobody does.” Tyreese cried.
“Alright man, let’s—“ Daryl tried again, only for Tyreese to whip around, grabbing him by the shirt collar and slamming him against the nearest set of bars.
“Man, I ain’t going nowhere till I find out who did this!” Tyreese yelled. Daryl put his hands out, stopping Rick and Carol from lunging at Tyreese. He paused, finding Iris standing behind him with a knife poised to strike between his ribs.
“Back off a little.” Iris warned quietly.
“We’re on the same side, man.” Daryl said.
“Hey, look.” Rick continued, using his soothing voice. “I know what you’re going through. We’ve all lost someone. We know what you’re going through right now but you’ve got to calm down.” He put his hand on Tyreese’s shoulder. Tyreese dropped Daryl, turning back around to shove Rick away.
“You need to step the hell back!” He yelled.
“She wouldn’t want you being like this—“ Rick tried, earning a swift punch to the jaw. Rick hit the floor, Carol letting out a cry of surprise.
“Stop! Stop!” She screamed. Rick tried to get up, and Tyreese punched him again. Daryl launched himself at him, hooking his arms around Tyreese’s neck.
“That’s enough.” He said firmly. Iris knelt beside Rick, helping him back up. Rick used the opportunity to punch Tyreese right back. He went down, and Rick kicked him in the stomach before laying waste to him a few times. “Rick.” Daryl called. “Stop!”
“Let go of me!” Rick screamed as Daryl pulled him off Tyreese.
“No.”
“Let go of me!”
“No!”
“Jesus Christ.” Iris muttered, rubbing a hand over her face. Tyreese rolled over on the ground, curling into himself as he sobbed. Rick broke free of Daryl’s grasp, panting as blood dripped from his mouth. His hand was shaking, dripping with Tyreese’s blood.
Carol quickly took him back inside to get his cuts treated by Hershel. Daryl and Iris stayed with Tyreese as he let it all out, waiting for him to finish before helping him up to get back inside. He quickly shrugged them both off, heading to the yard to dig two more graves.
They followed him, leaning against the truck in the yard a ways off, just to keep an eye out. Bob kept him company, chatting idly but respectfully while Tyreese worked. Iris felt her headache worsen, the pain blooming on the side of her temples. She cleared her throat, feeling saliva build in her mouth as nausea settled in her stomach.
“Iris. Hey, you okay?” Daryl asked, leaning forward off of the truck to get a better look at her. Iris swayed, feeling the blood drain from her head. Her lips looked suddenly pale, a little chapped. “Iris.”
“I don’t…” She slurred, swaying on her feet even more. Daryl lurched forward to catch her elbow, pulling her bandana over his face as he turned her to face him. Her eyelids fluttered, adjusting to the sunlight behind his head. She let out a soft groan, blinking slowly. Why was it suddenly so cold?
“Damn it.” Daryl muttered. Iris swayed again, her knees buckling beneath her. Daryl scooped her up into his arms, finding her far too light and shockingly limp. Her head lolled back against his chest and he started jogging toward Cell Block A.

After I was clean, Daryl balled up the washcloth, tossing it on the edge of the sink and handing my glasses back to me. I blew a small accumulation of dust off the lenses before putting them back on, adjusting them on my nose and blinking away more tears. He moved from being down on one knee to two and hugged me, resting his head in the crook of my neck. His warm breath tickled my sensitive skin. I combed one hand up the back of his head and the other down his back.
"Thank you for that," I said, twisting my fingers in his hair, "I don't know what else to say. That might be the most considerate thing anyone's ever done for me."
"Ya mean a lot to me. Wanna make sure you're taken care of." He gave me a gentle squeeze before letting go and placing his hands on my hips. "Told Rick I ain't doin' watch tonight. It's just you and me."
I anxiously bounced my leg. "Can I ask what you told Rick happened?"
"Said ya had a close call, was real shaken," he explained, "said I'd keep ya company. He said to make sure ya's ok." He put a hand on my knee to stop my leg from bouncing, stroking it delicately with his thumb. "Told me to tell ya we all know how scary a close call can be and he's sorry." Poor Rick didn't know the actualities of the situation, but I appreciated his empathy.
"I just don't want to be a burden," I sighed, biting the inside of my lower lip.
"Ain't never a burden," Daryl reassured, "now whadaya need? Ya hungry at all?" I'd been starving since before we'd finished hunting practice, so while I was absolutely ravenous, food was one of the last things on my mind.
"I mean a little, but I mostly just wanna curl up into a ball and die."
"Let's fix that then." He took my hands and helped me up, keeping one hand in his as he guided us into the hall, stopping outside my bedroom door.
"I think there's a can of soup around here somewhere. That sounds nice," I said.
"Ya wanna drink it?" he asked.
"Yeah," I replied, looking down at my feet and half-smiling as I turned red. Anytime I'd had soup, I always drank it out of a mug rather than using a bowl and spoon. In my opinion, it was the superior way to consume soup, and Daryl had poked fun at me for it on more than one occasion. Though he would drink it straight out of the can, so I don't know who he thought he was poking fun at me for the way I drank my soup.
He delicately placed his fingers under my chin and lifted my head to kiss my forehead, positioning his other hand on my hip. I closed my eyes as he rested his nose against my forehead, and the half-smile on my face turned into a full one. "You got it." Those little, familiar electric sparks lingered on my skin as he pulled away.
I went into my room and found a clean pair of shorts and t-shirt to change into. After changing, I collapsed back onto my bed and brought my pillow to my chest, hugging it tight. The tears returned once again, flowing down the sides of my face like waterfalls and draining into my ears and onto the sheets below me. I took my glasses off and set them on my nightstand. Staring up at the ceiling, my mind began to wander. I thought about what would've happened if I hadn't told Daryl about my history before we encountered him. How humiliated I would've felt to have Daryl hear about what happened from the mouth of the man who did it himself. And how disgusted I felt knowing that what Adam did to me happened more than once, based on his "fun times" comment.
I pressed my pillow around my face as tight as I could and screamed into it, letting out even more pent-up anger and pain than I thought I had. My emotions were running wild. I had faced my past, acknowledged it, and talked about it for the first time ever. I had faced the man who did it, had to listen to him taunt me about what he did to me. And I had taken a life, purposely. How many walkers had I killed? More than I could count. How many people had I killed? The answer was now 1.
When I was first dealing with the aftermath of the feelings from my assault, the pain came first. The unimaginable pain of reliving that horror every night, over and over and over again. The pain of not even being able to look at myself in the mirror. The pain of holding it all in, even as it tried to bubble over and spill out of me. Even when I felt like a shaken bottle of soda, fizzing out at the edges and on the verge of blowing my lid off, I held it all in. And the pain of finally exploding.
Then came the anger.
The anger for what he did to me. For him targeting someone in that way. For traumatizing me in a way to where I couldn't even look at myself naked without spiraling into a panic attack, to where I may never be able to experience the man I'd fallen in love with in the most intimate way possible. The anger at myself for not ignoring that gut feeling I had when he first ran out of those woods screaming for help. For not killing him right then and there when I woke up on that cold barn floor. For holding it in for so long that I almost gave myself alcohol poisoning just to cope. For freezing when we found him out on that dirt road and letting him taunt me as long as he did before finally killing him. Though it needed to be done, I was angry at myself for taking a life. And as silly as it sounded, I was angry at myself for not knowing what really happened, despite that being out of my control.
I threw my pillow back over my head and rolled over onto my side, facing the door. I folded my arms underneath my head and buried my face in them, tears flowing down over them as I continued crying. I heard Daryl come in a few minutes later and walk around to my side of the bed, setting a mug down on my nightstand next to my glasses.
"Careful, it's hot," he warned.
"Thanks," I mumbled. He stepped around to the other side, and I felt his weight move onto the bed next to me, moving closer to me before adjusting himself to get comfortable.
"I'm sorry ya had to see him again. Can't imagine how scary that was. 'Specially after thinkin' he'd been dead this whole time." I peeked out from over my arms, and Daryl brushed some hair out of my face, taking his sweet time tucking it behind my ear like he always did. "I'da killed him if ya didn't. Ain't no way he was gettin' outta there alive." I blinked a few times before looking at him. He'd laid down on his side next to me, facing me and using his other arm to hold his head up.
"It's not just that," I whispered, tears beginning to flow freely once again, "he said 'fun times we had together.' Times. Like more than once." My hands balled up into fists, nails digging into my palms in an attempt to feel anything other than the overwhelming humiliation and disgust inside me. "I really have no idea what happened. And there aren't words for how horrifying that feels."
My nightmares were heaven compared to this. At least when I was stuck in my head, I knew what to expect. It was the same thing, again and again and again. But now my mind was free to wander, following every dark thought to its abysmal and terrifying conclusion.
I began to sob openly into my arms, my skin and the pillowcase below me quickly becoming soaked with salty tears. I dug my nails into my palms as hard as I could, and I was almost certain I would break skin. I wanted to sink down into the bed and become one with it. I wanted the ground to swallow me whole. I was so ashamed, I didn't even want Daryl looking at me. Embarrassment and I had become well acquainted.
"I don't know what happened," I cried, my words coming out broken through hitched sobs, "I don't know what he did. I don't know how many times he did it. I have this gigantic, empty gap of time. Who knows how big that actually is. I—I—...I..." I began to hyperventilate and cry so hard that I started shaking.
"Hey, you're ok," Daryl assured, "c'mere." He wrapped his arm around me and pulled me by the waist, bringing me as close to him as possible, and wrapped his other arm around me, snaking it up my back and twirling his fingers in my hair. I buried my face in his shirt and continued to hyperventilate. I was confident I would pass out. "Just breathe. You're ok."
He held me for a very, very long time, letting me shake and sob into his chest without so much as a flinch from him. He alternated between petting my head, running his hand down my back, and gently massaging my scalp with his fingers. He offered words of comfort, reminding me to just breathe, that I was safe, and he was there. I now saw why he had that vest on all the time. This man was a goddamn angel.
There were so many emotions coursing through me that it was overstimulating. The pain, the shame, the guilt, the relief, and the white-hot anger all bubbling right under the surface made my skin tingle like it was on fire. I felt so small and insignificant, and my entire body hurt, inside and out. The pain was excruciating, but the humiliation was worse. Being nestled in Daryl's arms provided some comfort for my spiraling mind.
"I'm so fucking embarrassed," I croaked, taking Daryl's shirt and balling it in my hands, pressing it to my face in some pathetic attempt to hide myself.
"Don't got nothin' to be embarrassed about." He had the most soothing voice. It was silky and sweet, like honey, and also rough and rocky, like gravel. It oozed comfort. "You're ok. Just focus on breathin'."
After what felt like hours, the hyperventilating stopped, and my sobbing subsided a bit. Now it was just soft crying as opposed to full-on broken sobs. I picked my head up and poked it out from the little cave of safety that Daryl had made with his arms. He looked down at me, giving me a soft, tender kiss on the forehead and a gentle squeeze. I squeezed my eyes shut again, the bright light of the ceiling lamp nearly blinding my dilated pupils.
"Fuck," I groaned, turning over onto my back and putting my arm over my face, "could you turn the light off?"
"Sure can." He rolled over and out of bed, flipping the switch off before plopping back down next to me, laying on his side and propping his head up with his elbow. He took my hand in his other one and interlocked our fingers.
"Think I know the answer, but how ya feelin'?" he inquired. I wiped my cheeks with my hand.
"Honestly, I feel overwhelmed by how many different things I'm feeling. I'm relieved because I know he's gone now, and he can't hurt me or anyone else ever again. I'm relieved he never made it to Alexandria. I don't want to think about what would've happened if he made it here. Mostly though, I'm just so unbelievably angry." I looked past Daryl at the wall behind him and wiggled my toes to try to relieve some anxious energy. "At him...at myself."
"Whadaya angry at yourself for?"
"For a lot of things. Right now, it's mostly because I killed someone. The only thing that makes me feel better about it is that it wasn't just anyone. I killed the man who..." My sentence trailed off, and I dropped my eyes to the bed. I couldn't even say the word. "Ruined me."
"Ya ain't ruined. You're..." He paused, and I brought my eyes back to meet his while he searched for his words. "You're still you. You're a good person. Argue one o' the best I ever met. Compassionate, honest, trustworthy. Goofy as hell." I stifled a laugh and playfully elbowed him in the arm. "You're one of the good things left."
The butterflies in my stomach kicked into high gear, and my heart was pounding against my ribcage. I was quickly turning bright red, and I averted my eyes from his for just a moment. It was nearly impossible for me to maintain eye contact with him when I was blushing. "You make me feel special, Daryl."
"'Cause ya are. Real special to me." He released my hand and draped his arm over my waist, gripping his fingers around my side and rolling me over, pulling me against him. I let out a tiny yelp in surprise, followed by a soft giggle. I put my arm under my head to use as a pillow, and he kissed the tip of my nose before doing the same. "Ya remember the first time I asked why ya go by Vector? When we was gettin' back from our first run together?" he asked. I nodded. "Can't help but notice ya been doin' all the things ya said ya hadn't done since before it happened."
Thinking back to that day, I realized that Daryl was right. All the things I'd talked about—singing in the shower, wearing sundresses, dancing in the street, picking flowers on walks, smiling with my teeth out—were things that were quintessentially me that I had, in fact, started doing again since arriving at Alexandria. Slowly, over time, amongst all the trauma and the nightmares and the bullshit, Lydia was creeping her way back out. She wasn't dead after all. She never was. She was always there.
She was hiding in the shadows, waiting until it was safe once again to reappear. And found that safety I did, both in the form of a place, but more importantly, in the form of a person.
"You remember all of those?" Of course he did. The man clung for dear life to every word I said.
"Sure do," he replied, "remember a lotta things ya said."
"Oh yeah? What else do you remember?" I wondered. He pursed his lips and averted his gaze, looking past me out the window. His stoic expression broken when a half-smile emerged on his face.
"Remember the embarrassing story ya told me. 'Bout the spaghetti on a date," he teased. I sighed and rolled my eyes so far back into my head, I could see my brain.
"You promised never to bring that up again," I scolded, giving him a playful flick on the tip of his cute little button nose.
"You're the one that asked," he defended.
"Anyway, you're right," I agreed, taking the conversation back to Daryl's initial commentary, "I have been doing those things again. Feels good to realize that. Feels good to know that..." I briefly paused, "Lydia's been in there the whole time." My name still sounded foreign to me, but less so, though saying it still left a bitter taste on my tongue.
"See? You're still you," he reassured. He moved some hair out of my eyes and stroked my jawline as he brought his hand down before taking mine in his.
"Speaking of past runs, do you remember how much you didn't want me to come on that first one?" I recollected, "funny to think about now considering where we're at." Daryl pursed his lips again and looked down like he was deep in thought.
"Wanna apologize to ya," he said. I cocked an eyebrow at him.
"For what?" I asked, taking his face in my hand and lightly scratching his facial hair. He didn't have a full beard, so I wouldn't call it a beard scratch, but next to back scratches, it was Daryl's favorite.
"Wasn't very nice to ya when ya got here. Still think 'bout it sometimes," he elaborated.
"Aww, it's ok," I assured, "that was months ago. Clearly, we're good now." I snickered a little. "You're lucky everyone repeatedly told me not to take anything personally. Maggie especially. They all assured me that you'd eventually warm up and come around." And warm up and come around he sure did, but not in the way any of them were probably expecting.
"Guess I gotta thank 'em." He brought his hand up to pet my head, combing his fingers through my hair as he did. "Think that second run we went on to get Aaron's foot is my favorite."
"Why's that?"
"Ya's so damn persistent 'bout gettin' to know me," he remembered, "I know I's stubborn as hell, but it was nice."
"I knew you liked it!" I exclaimed, poking him playfully in the chest.
"Also remember ya tellin' me how handsome ya thought I was," he recollected, his cheeks turning that sweet faint shade of baby pink. With regards to my favorite color, blue was starting to have some competition.
Christ, I thought, he probably remembers me saying I could kiss him when he was holding my hair back when I puked.
"I remember a lot of things you've said too," I echoed.
"Oh yeah? Like what?" he wondered. He continued to comb his hand through my hair, massaging my scalp ever so lightly as he did. It was euphoric.
"Like the first time you called me pretty," I explained, blushing at the memory and all of the feelings that came after. I giggled a little as another memory came to mind. "And the second night I was here, when I got a lil' wine drunk & was trying to go upstairs, you said to be careful because I could slip and, quote, "I ain't cleanin' that up.""
"Can I share somethin' 'bout that night?" Daryl wondered, and I nodded, "had to stop myself from offerin' to carry ya upstairs. Didn't wanna make ya uncomfortable since we hardly knew each other."
Though he'd never say it about himself, Daryl was such a gentleman, and it had me swooning hard. It was so cute, I was sure I would combust.
"Aww, Daryl, that's so sweet." I gave him a small peck on the nose, causing his cheeks to turn that faint shade of baby pink once again. "Can I tell you something about that night?" He gave me one of his signature tiny smiles and a nod. "If you had offered, I would've said yes."

Emmys 2023: List of Nominees
'Succession,' 'The Last of Us,' 'The White Lotus' and 'Ted Lasso' are among shows that landed the most Emmy nominations, which were revealed during a virtual ceremony Wednesday.

'Succession,' 'The Last of Us,' 'The White Lotus' and 'Ted Lasso' are among shows that landed the most Emmy nominations, which were revealed during a virtual ceremony Wednesday.
The nominations for the 2023 Emmy Awards have been revealed, with Succession, The Last of Us, The White Lotus and Ted Lasso among those landing the most noms.
Actors earning nominations included Pedro Pascal forThe Last of Us, Jeremy Strong for Succession, Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary and Jenny Ortega for Wednesday.
Emmy-nominated actress Yvette Nicole Brown and TV Academy chair Frank Scherma announced who will be competing for some of TV’s highest honors during a virtual ceremony on Wednesday.
Brown was nominated for an Emmy for her work on The Black Lady Sketch Show. Her other credits include Community, Central Park, Elena of Avalor, Disenchanted, DC League of Super Pets and Lady and the Tramp.
In order to be eligible for this year’s awards, TV shows had to have aired between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023.
The 75th annual Emmys are currently set to air live from the Peacock Theater (formerly the Microsoft Theater) on Monday, Sept. 18, from 5-8 p.m. PT/ 8-11 p.m. ET on Fox, with the Creative Arts ceremonies set for Sept. 9-10. A host for the Fox ceremony has not yet been revealed, but Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay are set to produce the telecast.
The Monday airdate for the Emmys is unusual for a year when the telecast, which rotates among broadcast networks ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, doesn’t air on NBC.
The Emmys usually air Sunday nights, except when NBC hosts the telecast, when the awards ceremony has aired Mondays due to the network’s Sunday Night Football commitments. Indeed the 2022 Emmys aired on a Monday, Sept. 12, on NBC. Fox last aired the Emmys in 2019 when the show aired on a Sunday, Sept. 22.
Still, it’s possible that the awards presentations could get delayed if there isn’t a resolution to the ongoing writers strike later this summer. The possibility of an actors strike also looms as SAG-AFTRA continues contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) group representing studios and streamers, and the deadline for those talks is set for 11:59 p.m. PT on Wednesday. While the union agreed Tuesday to engage a federal mediation agency in its talks, which have been taking place since June 7, it said it would not extend discussions beyond Wednesday night’s deadline. The Directors Guild recently reached a new deal with the studios and streamers.
Read on for this year’s Emmy nominees in select categories. A full list of this year’s nominees is available at Emmys.com.

candles and flamkes jk, how did you feel the first night oc came back and she slept beside you?
Oc, didn’t you got scared of leaving jk and jihyo in your marital house alone?
Jungkook: “For a moment, it felt odd. As if we were starting anew or as if I’d become a stranger. But then she turned to me and looked at me and there was something in her eyes… that made me want to tear up. Because when she hugged me then and nestled in tight, it felt… right again, yes?”
Jungkook: “As if I had once again realised that this was still her and she still loved me and I still loved her, and for a second, the both of us could forget and hope.”
-
OC: “We weren’t in the right mind, and there were a million fears in mine. Staying there hurt a little more at that time, but I was a little afraid. Yet, when I thought about it all for just a second longer, I understood how she’d looked at him and how he’d looked at me, and that anything out of line was always going to be impossible. She had moved on from whatever they had. And he would never stray from me, no matter how fogged the mind.”

I think the fundamental difference between the show and the books is the characters in the show are able to self-reflect and have contrition (Rolin mentioned this word a lot). What Louis reached at the end of S2 is huge: he is able to process his trauma. In the books, it's basically just a cycle of abuse and violence keeps repeating. Lestat keeps going fuck around and find out. Yes, he feels sorry about it, but there's no real self-reflection, he never says sorry deeply truthfully. Instead, the narration gives abusers the excuse of why what they did is actually not that bad, yknow. Book Louis reaches some peace in the last second book, but it's pretty vague and imo makes him weaker instead (some fans even call him being "lobotomized" lol), which is very different from what AMC Louis gets. He stands taller and stronger, he's more active. So, the show really tries to give each character this arc to reach that point.
But to even start that arc, they have to do the most awful things first, and those things have to be true and the character has to acknowledge they're true, otherwise it won't work. Which is why I don't see them denying the abuse the characters do to each other. We see the show doubles down on Lestat's abuse on Ep 14. Which is why I find it annoying when fans try to deny or even erase the abuse in their stories. It's part of their journey! Louis has just arrived on the right track, Lestat's arc is only about to start in S3, Armand needs to be slapped a couple of times first to realize he's wrong and start his arc.
See, it's a long ass process. And perhaps there will be moments when it's one step forward two steps back. But Rolin wasn't kidding when he said he wanted many seasons. If only the fans (especially the book fans) are more patient. You can't get to point F before passing A, B, C, D, E.
The way me and oomfs have been saying Ep 8 makes very much sense when you remember this is the story of The Unholy Family and sam said the show is indeed about them 😌↕️🚬

Introverted Sensing (Si) / Extroverted Intuition (Ne)
Abigail is a hard-working and resourceful woman, whose reluctance to spy for the cause stems primarily from her apprehensions about the potential “fall out” for herself and her son, Cicero. She is a meticulous woman, who takes her role in Major Andre’s household very seriously,…

I dont know a bunch, but I do pick up a bit now that my sister's moved out and asking for similar advice from the adults in the family.
Main one is budgeting. Figure out how much you currently have, how much u get per week, and how much you're spending and where. Take a month or two of regular spending to get your base numbers. Taylor Budgets has a good video explaining how to do a budget and also uses a cash stuffing method, which is basically money out of ur bank account and thats it. thats your spending money for that area, which makes it harder to overspend, then if youre just using your card for everything
youtube
Figure out if u have any subscriptions you forgot to cancel or for some reason just realized you're not using and get rid of those first.
See if you're over spending somewhere. I'm not taking about the nice shirt your spent a little extra on last month or that slightly more expensive almond milk you buy because you're severely lactose intolerance but the store brand tastes like crap damn it, I'm talking about you going to the mall every weekend to just browse and it turns out you've been walking out of hot topic every week with a new pair of socks. You need groceries every week. You do not need new socks every week.
See if you can make entertainment less expensive. Go to the library. the books are free, they usually have ac and sometimes have other things for lending, like video games, sewing machines and basic tools. Do you live with someone? see if they're willing to set up the communal tv with their Netflix account. use your sibling's Spotify account. cry when they kick you off for ruining their favorite marker back when u were four. my local movie theater sells tickets for 6.50 vs amc's 25. Curse the gods when you prick urself while darning your favorite pair of socks. beat bread dough for an hour. circle square pieces of fabric as you figure out how you want your quilt's arrangement (some people buy quilting fabric for their quilts. i cut up old clothes and use thread and a needle). decide whether or not the artist of the 1000 piece puzzle u bought deserves a slow death by your hand while trying to figure out the pieces' placement by the size of the snowflakes they painted. I can assure you there are cheaper ways out of boredom if u go out to look for them
thrifting!!! buying second hand is a great way to save money. if you live in a poorer neighborhood with no thrift store or a store that has no good things (low quality materials, things are stretched out, thin, patched badly, not your size ) and you have access to a train station, go to richer cities. I got a 3 dollar irish linen button down that actually fits. they were selling hardcovers and crystal glassware for 2 dollars. they have no idea what they're selling and all the rich people want to feel good by donating their unwanted things to these stores instead of throwing them out. take advantage
Want older/fancier things? estate sales. someone died. someone else wants to sell the house fast but doesn't want to pay to trash everything. sometimes you get old clothes, furniture, and movies. sometimes someone is desperate to get rid of heavy leather-bound books and their grandfather's collection of swords. usually things are cheap because the people selling want things gone more then they want to make a profit. estatesale.net is a good place to start looking to see if there are any around around your area. Colleges on move out day are great to get things for free
You can sell things!!! Used but still in good condition clothes can go to places like thread up. They sell second clothing and give you part of the cut. their second hand clothing isn't the cheapest, but percentage wise can save you a lot of money, especially on brand names. and you can send them stuff for free. for undergarments knickey is the best I've found. they recycle the fabric into insulation, and give u store credit. their stuff is ridiculously expensive, only for women and u have to pay shipping but what I've gotten so far from them is good quality and honestly better then nothing.
some places you regularly shop at have online websites and apps. look at them before buying something, but only check once you're already done inside the shop and ready to go pay. they usually have coupons and deals, so check quickly to make sure if they apply to anything in your cart before getting on the check out line. use coupons as a way to help you save money on what you're already going to buy, not to see if anything is on sale.
Finally for insurance, can't really help you. I'm convinced no one really knows what the fuck is going on. BUT ask around to see if a friend you have used to work in the industry and is willing to help out. The best video I've found is from Brian David Gilbert, who doesn't usually do videos like this but apparently already did the research while getting new insurance so might as well.
youtube
If I get better info I'll be sure to update. Good luck!!!
I'm looking to learn about financial literacy, does anyone have any pointers or suggestions on folks to get my information from?
There's a mega sea of info out there, but I would like to learn from people who aren't assholes or just total capitalists. Just :) nice people doing what they need to to survive In capitalism, who Wouldn't exploit me at the drop of a dime if they could. It's okay if that doesn't exist yet, but if it does I'd love to avoid having to comb through a million shitass "entrepreneurs" looking to be as rich as possible no matter what I just wanna learn how to live here
