do you ever think about how bone-deep terrified eris must have been while under briallyn’s thrall and in koschei’s keep? how he knew his family would not care to find him until it was too late for him, if they ever did at all? (it wasn’t uncommon for him to disappear for a time; he always covered his tracks when it came to beron, and his mother and brothers, no matter their feelings towards him, knew better than to ask questions and bring attention to his absences.) how he didn’t care that much for what his death would mean for himself but what it would mean for his family, his people, his land? how he tried (and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and) to break free from the crown’s control of his mind, but he was as helpless in his body as he had been over the span of his life? how the only reason he was captured at all was to lure in fae who hated him? how those fae were his only hope of salvation, and even after everything he had done for them, their first thought when they saw him puppeteered through prythian was that he must have double-crossed them? how he could see the hatred in their eyes when his body was being used without his say, when his lips were parting and instead of help me help me this isn’t me don’t you see that don’t you see me, it was someone else’s words speaking through him? how the only thing that saved him in that moment was a slip of someone else’s tongue in his mouth, and if that hadn’t happened, he would have been left to the slaughter? i think about that. a lot.
