I've been wanting to share this opinion for a long time, but I was too afraid and now I really need to know what you think about this
⚠️𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐜 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (I mean those situations when we know for sure that the characters are white, and not when it was not specified)⚠️
And now I will explain why
The fact is that changing the color of the character's skin does not add more representation. 👉The author creates a white character, this character has a white name, white people problems, white background.👈 This character has nothing to do with poc culture/life. Even if you didn't know the color of their skin, you could still say that they are white. Because this is how the character is written, they're white-coded.
And then BOOM and the author changes the color of the character's skin so that the fandom stops raging because of the lack of poc characters. But nothing has really changed, right? They didn't change the character, they didn't even try. The author doesn’t want to try to create an interesting poc representation nonono. Why if we can cast black/brown girl as some Molly Peters? NoW wE hAvE rEpResEnTatIoN so clap clap clap that's what you asked for yeah?
💁‍♀️Disney
No, Disney doesn't want to show you Tiana, Pocahontas, Moana. No, they don't want to create new poc characters. They want to film Snow White with Colombian girl. This is a very evil joke, considering WHY Snow White is called as she is called.“ Skin white as snow“
💁‍♀️ How J. K. Rowling Suddenly made Hermione black.
No, she didn’t want to create a black main character. Hermione is written as a white girl. BOOM now Hermione is black, ONLY to make fandom to shut up and sit down LOOK wE hAvE rEpResEnTatIoN nOw i CanT bE rACIsT
There are so many different cultures in the world and each of them is beautiful.☀️ We are all different and it's beautiful. Imagine how boring the world would be if everyone looked and behaved the same. It's silly to think that the place where you grew up and people around you do not affect you/your life.
So no, white Hermione and black Hermione shouldn't be the same person.
💁‍♀️ Cassandra Clare
I love her with all my heart, but damn, she also made LOTS of mistakes. Aline Penhallow, Jia Penhallow, Jem ARE NOT WHITE. But you forget about it, cause nothing tells you they're not. Now Cassie is kinda better at writing poc characters, but meh ;-;
😩Sometimes I just want to scream: DEAR AUTHORS, IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO CREATE POC CHARACTERS, THEN PLEASE STOP. But damn, they have to study, they have to spend hours learning more about other cultures, THAT'S THEIR JOB.
☝️Ugh we need more black authors
I don't need any more white “poc” characters. I need more NON-STEREOTYPICAL poc characters that were originally conceived as poc characters.
🌈I really hope that I didn't offend anyone with this post, I'm white and obviously I don't know much about poc culture and how these characters should be portrayed!🌈 But I am learning and I see many good examples of poc characters in movies and books. (Inej Ghafa, Marie Laveau, Jodie Landon, Esmeralda, Winston Bishop, Issa Dee, Tia Dalma, Sam White, Olivia Pope,  Aech, Essun, Jesper AND SO MANY MORE).
And I'm really upset about all the people asking for right representation for YEARS, not being able to relate to any of these white girls. And all they got is "ummmm okaaaaay now Jessica is black, u happy? Btw, I'm not racist so buy our merch💅🏻"
I know that I could write something stupid, but it seems to me that it is better to make mistakes, but learn, than just be silent🤷‍♀️
I NEED YOUR THOUGHTS GUYS! *scared*
