April TBR 2024--
Tumblr media
This next month is set to be full of rereads, hockey romances, and new to me books. It is also the month I'm starting a certification program so it will probably be a bit of a struggle to get through this month's TBR. I don't even remember the last time I've thought that about a month's TBR. I really hope I have as much fun with this TBR as I'm expecting to. I've really been in the mood for these rereads and these hockey romance so I'm excited to finally get to it.
Silver in the Bone by Alexandra Bracken-- This is just one of a few rereads this month. Book two in the series comes out next month. I originally read this one as an ARC so I definitely need a refresher first. Tamsin Lark is a mortal with no magical talent who was never meant to break into ancient crypts or compete with sorceresses and Cunning folk for the treasures inside. But treasure hunting is the only way she could keep herself and her brother Cabell alive following her thieving foster father's disappearance. Ten years later she's looking for a ring that is supposed to save her brother from a curse. It's based in Arthurian legend.
Teen Titans: Beast Boy by Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo-- Another reread before a new book in the series. I remember enjoying this one slightly less than Raven's book, but I still enjoyed meeting a new character and getting their origin story. I also felt like it addressed an issue that isn't brought up a lot: male body image issues. We see it addressed a lot in fiction for girls, but there are boys who also go through this growing up. Plus it's beast boy and lots of green animals.
The Score by Elle Kennedy-- A hockey romance! I've been so in the mood for hockey romances this year. I don't know if it's because I found a few new to me authors and bought some kindle books for Christmas or what. In this one we follow Allie Hayes who is in crisis mode. Graduation is looming and she's dealing with a broken heart thanks to the end to her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just one though because even if her future is uncertain it sure as heck doesn't include Dean. It seems like he's going to pursue her after she puts him in the friend zone following their one night stand. I love it when the guy falls first or the guy is pursuing the girl so I'm looking forward to this one.
Stars and Smoke by Marie Lu-- The last of the rereads for this month. I'm so excited for the next book too. In this one we follow an international pop sensation named Winter Young who is brought into the world of spies when a major crime boss gifts his daughter a private concert with Winter for her birthday. Sydney Cossette is a member of the elite covert ops group who is forced to work alongside Winter to infiltrate the crime organization's inner circle. This was such a fun and quick read for me last year and I can't wait to go back into this world of glitz, glam, and spies.
Bad Men by Julie Mae Cohen (NetGalley)-- This one just sounded so good when I saw it on NetGalley. It's unhinged women at its finest. Saffy Huntley-Oliver is an intelligent and glamorous socialite; she also happens to be a proficient serial killer. Over the course of fifteen years, she's dispatched bad men--rapist, murderers, domestic abusers. But leading a double life has left her lonely. Dating's rough when your boyfriend might turn out to be your next victim. Saffy thinks she's finally found a truly good man in Jonathan Desrosiers, a true crime podcaster. This is a feminist thriller that asks if even a serial killer can have a happily ever after. My hopes for this one? Rich people drama and some mad women.
The Hemlock Queen by Hannah F. Whitten (New Release)-- The second book in the series is finally coming out. This series starts with Lore, who has a dark power and a hidden past, as we follow her into the intrigue of the Sainted King's royal court. The king and his priest manipulate Lore and have her spy on the prince in order to determine just who is killing the villages at the edge of the kingdom. We follow on from the events of the first book in this new one.
My Lucky #13 by Piper Rayne (Kindle)-- A hockey player who is going through a scoring draught is worried he's going to get traded before the deadline if he doesn't turn it around. Following a New Year's Eve with a woman, he has a waterfall of goals and knows he has to see her again. She wants nothing to do with him and he feels his has to change her mind. A hero falls first sounding story that I'm so looking forward to. I will say that there's a very obvious hockey error in the synopsis of this one and we all know I'm a little picky about hockey details. But I'll try to keep an open mind on this one.
Just Do This One Thing For Me by Laura Zimmerman (Library)-- I'm going to pull the synopsis straight from GoodReads since it's a Mystery/Thriller and those are hard to explain at the best of times: "'Just do this one thing for me.' Drew's mother says it more often than good morning. Heidi Hill has been juggling shady side hustles for all of Drew's seventeen years, and Drew knows that 'one thing' really means all the necessary things her mother thinks are boring, including taking care of her fifteen-year-old sister and eight-year-old brother. In fact, Drew is the closest thing to a responsible adult they've ever known. When their mother disappears on the way to a New Year's Eve concert in Mexico and her schemes start unraveling, Drew is faced with a choice: Follow the rules, do the responsible thing, and walk away--alone--from her mother's mess. Or hope the weather stays cold, keep the cons going, and just maybe hold her family together."

Hey there! I just finished Picard and wondered if you could rec any Raffi x Seven fics that you particularly love? They got on my radar in large part because of your blog, so thank you for the introduction :)
hello! that's really cool and i'm very glad i was able to bring you into the saffi fold 😊
i read fic of all ratings, but most of these are M or E. i'll link them under a cut because this is gonna be long 😂
in general i love pretty much everything from the following writers because i love their overall style of writing and approaching themes, so i feel like you're bound to find something you like within their bodies of work!
Ericine
Daxs10thHost
bimichaelburnham
PepperSpicedLatte
here are a few of my FAV fics off the top of my head, in no particular order. this list is never ending and i am for sure forgetting a bunch. but i think it's a good starting point!
how shall i touch you unless it is unless it is everywhere? by Daxs10thHost (rated M) That whole night, there’d been no talk of the handhold; Raffi’s focus had been entirely on the game, and Seven, between stolen glances, had mirrored her concentration, deciding not to push her luck. But there, hesitant in the hallway, Seven suddenly recognized the look in Raffi’s eyes. or, Raffi invites Seven back to Earth to explore their relationship.
Mimesis by bodyinmotion2 (rated M) A silent retreat on Vashti gives Seven some new perspective and she comes home with a story to tell: Hers. Finally able to open up, she allows a hand written journal to tell the story of what happened to her when she left Earth after Voyager and the intimately manipulative relationship she held with Bjayzl. Raffi and B'Elanna, chosen to bear witness to the truth form Seven's support system as they navigate past trauma together in order to continue healing and move on.
supermoon spell by Ericine (rated E) "If anything, you've been saying it the whole time. I'm the one saying it back." Agnes and Rios break up (again), and three of the least likely people to hang out on Risa head to Risa for a month. All three are having relationship issues. All three work it out, as much as people like them can. (Or, you know, the one where they say "I love you")
perchance to dream by Ericine (rated G) "Her first night of sleep in fifty years would be with you." They have three days to set the future right. They sleep where they can. After the first long day, they can. Thing is, Seven hasn't slept as a human in decades.
A House Is A Home Only With You by bimichaelburnham (rated M) "It's not that Raffi doubts Seven has feelings for her, no. They are there. She would have to be blind not to see. It's in the way Seven wraps an arm around her waist in the morning as Raffi is fighting with the replicator to make them coffee. It's in the way she reaches for her absentmindedly when Raffi has been out of her orbit for a little too long." Or Seven makes a confession and Raffi is done letting it breathe.
Missing Seven by speedtrials (rated M) Due to the (20 years overdue) earth-shaking revelation that Seven of Nine is canonically queer (!!!) there is an immediate requirement for approx 10000 fics to be posted and I answered the call. This story features seven (get it?) missing scenes from Season 1 of Picard with Seven and Raffi Musiker, who are now officially established as the cutest, most badass, hottest, not to mention casually MILF, f/f couple in the galaxy. ✨ Get into it. ==Complete==
The slow walk towards a better life by changethenarrative (rated E) Raffi and Seven deal with their new but tentative attraction to each other as they’re caught in a web of sabotage and shifting loyalties while the planet Coppelius negotiates its place in the Federation. Set after the events of 1x10.
Getting Started (rated M) 'There were thirteen standard earth days between the beginning and end of Raffi’s endurance. Three hundred and twelve hours (eighteen thousand, seven hundred and twenty minutes), of virtuous, almost saint-like patience; stretching between point A, and point Z.' Raffi spends way too much time waiting for the right moment to move things along with Seven. Eventually, she makes her own opportunity.
it's not the weight you carry but how you carry it by Daxs10thHost (rated T) Seven looks over Raffi’s shoulder, out the window to where the setting sun has lit the desert sands in pinks and golds. “Read to me?” she asks, and as soon as she says it, all the tension drains from her chest. She looks back and sees her relaxation mirrored in Raffi’s pose. “These next few nights? Just until I fall asleep?” “Oh honey,” Raffi hums. “I would love that. More than you can ever know.” or, Seven and Raffi find each other in the pages of really old books. canon-adjacent, post-season 1.
Everything Carries Me To You by bimichaelburnham (rated E) "Raffi talks about the dichotomy of her human and Borg parts with poetry, as though she is praising art. She talks about their shape as if they are a natural happenstance and not born from a species' cruel desire to own every part of another. [...] It comes and it goes, the acceptance of herself." After time traveling to the past, Seven struggles with her old-new circumstance as well as reconciling both parts of herself. Thankfully Raffi is here to land a hand. Post-season 2 Canon compliant.
i also really love fics set in the confederation (the universe they found themselves in in s02e02). it's basically a what if president annika hansen and head of security raffaela musiker were a thing in that world. they're usually smut with a tinge of danger. it's a fun place for fic!
let my force just carry us home tonight by Ericine (rated E)
can I take you all the way? by Ericine (rated E)
Nothing Is Permanent (Not Ever Our Troubles) by bimichaelburnham rated E)
Ethereal by PepperSpicedLatte (rated E)
i hope you find something you enjoy in this list! there is so much out there already so whatever your fancy, i'm sure it's already out there.

Gather round guys and gals and non-binary pals, it's time for End Of Time: Part One. And imma be honest with you, I don't actually think I've watched this one since it aired because my primary memory is of not enjoying it. But that was three Doctors ago, so perhaps a little distance will make all the difference.
Tumblr media
Starting with a voiceover about how it's Christmas and we're all going to have nightmares and the only person who remembers them is Wilf, who then goes to watch some carol singers in church.
TARDIS in the stained glass window! Then a woman in white shows up to tell him the story of how in the 1300s, a sainted physician in a blue box smote a demon. Then she vanishes. And Wilf hears the Master laughing in his head.
Roll credits, and we switch to Ten strolling out of the TARDIS, where he meets an Ood. He was summoned. But he took a scenic route and got married to Queen Elizabeth, which is when I remember this is now canonically after Day Of The Doctor and immediately this scene is funnier.
He locks the TARDIS like a car and says so aloud and nobody is ever again allowed to complain about Eleven opening the doors with a snap of his fingers.
The Ood are also having nightmares. The Doctor joins in and recognises the Master immediately. They also show him Wilf. Then we get a shot of the Master's wife and I suddenly start to remember bits of why this episode annoyed me.
Anyway, the Ood tell him the end of time is coming and he sprints off to the TARDIS while on Earth, the lady who picked up the Master's ring goes to Lucy Saxon. They give a little exposition about how they never lost faith in Saxon and do a little ritual in which... they take a 'biometric imprint'... from her lips. It's stupid and I hate it.
So he comes back, sucking the life force from all his followers, chanting about never dying and ranting about drums. But Lucy knew he'd come back and do a ritual, so she had HER followers do their OWN  own ritual to cancel out his one. It's giving me Curse of Fatal Death vibes, except that was intentionally ridiculous.
The Doctor shows up too late. The prison is a pile of rubble. But the people from the Oods vision have CCTV of the Master possibly surviving. They go to a shiny lab and tell their scientists to 'prepare the gate.'
Wilf! He's even wearing his festive antlers, yay! He says he's going to the pub, but as soon as he's out the door, he gets on a walkie talkie and meets up with a group of OAP Doctor spotters, including Saffy's gran from Ab Fab. 'Cause Wilf isn't stupid, he knows shenanigans are afoot and so he's trying to track down the one person he knows who could help. He can't tell the oldies who the Doctor is, but confirms they all have nightmares too.
A building site. The woman working in the burger van says President Obama is going to do a Christmas broadcast in which he promises to end the recession. I look at the UK's record inflation rate and laugh hollowly.
The Master approaches in a tatty old hoodie and I am disappointed by his lack of style. He hasn't looked this bad since he was Crispy. He tells the woman he wants to eat everything because he's hungry. Then he megajumps across the site and lands behind the two other chaps, noms down a burger at top speed and starts muttering about food. Bloke 1 picks up on the weird vibes and tries to make his excuses, but bloke 2 is all 'hey, you look like that Saxon bloke who went mad' and I hope one day to be able to say the same to our Prime Minister. He does some more ranting and bloke 1 grabs his friend and they go to leave, which is when the Master says he's splitting his sides... and goes all glowy skeleton for a moment. Our chaps run for it, back to the burger van, only to find a skeleton. Still dressed. Presumably so we'll recognise it as the woman who was running the place.
The Master shouts 'DINNER TIME!' just in case it was unclear how she died, and then does a mega jump into the air towards them. I do not have the words to describe how stupid I think it is because I already used 'does not spark joy' yesterday with the Cybershades.
The Doctor shows up. The Master starts hitting a steel barrel. Then he runs. The Doctor gives chase. Then the Master stops and screams at him while the Doctor stares at him, probably just as weirded out as I am by his new look. And then we get another stupid megajump.
More running. They stop again. The Master does the glowy skeleton again and the Doctor begs him to let him help, he's burning up his own life force.
More running. Wilf pops up! The Doctor pretty much just swerves around him, but it's too late, the Master has vanished.
Gran gushes about their silver network, flirts with the Doctor and pinches his bum. I should disapprove, but honestly, it's the best thing about this episode so far.
Wilf and the Doctor get dropped off by a Christmas tree, because this is allegedly a Christmas special. They go to a cafe where Wilf reminisces a little before telling him about the nightmares. But the Doctor just wants to know how Wilf found him, because they keep meeting over, how weird, how strange, except it's also bullshit. Gustave Lytton. Edward Travers. Sabalom Glitz. In Maydryn Undead, the Doctor was having an adventure with the Brigadier while his companions were also having an adventure with a younger version of the Brigadier. Heck, even in Nu Who, we had Elton Pope, who met the Doctor once as a child before meeting him again as an adult. Not to mention Donna effin' Noble herself, who found him again after turning down his first offer to travel.
What I'm saying is that there is nothing at all remarkable about somebody running into the Doctor more than once, especially when they know him and are actively looking for him, especially when he keeps returning to the same place and time period. Travers running into him by accident 40 years apart in different countries was way more unusual. Glitz running into him twice by accident on different planets was even more so. Stop trying to make out it's a thing when it isn't.
Oh wait, shit, I'm starting to rant, I didn't wanna do that, sorry.
Anyway, the Doctor kills what little Christmas vibe there is by saying he's going to die. Wilf reminds us all that regeneration is a thing and the Doctor says he can still die, before angsting that regeneration might as well be dying anyway and I can feel another rant coming on. Deep breaths, Sushi. Go an eat a biscuit.
Thankfully my darling Donna shows up! The Doctor tells Wilf if she ever remembers him, her mind will burn up and I find myself wondering what would happen if she ever saw the Silence, oops. I like to think Eleven went back and fixed that once he became aware of the Silence long enough to realise that might be a problem for her (and then gave her back all her memories because he'd finally had enough time to work out how).
She's engaged! Hopefully the Racnoss didn't leave any Huon particles behind. Wilf mentions that sometimes he sees her with a look on her face like she's forgotten something and I like to think those are moments where she sees the Silence.
The Doctor says he's travelling alone and did some messed up stuff and then gets tearful before he and Wilf exchange Merry Christmasses and Christ this is depressing, thank God there's a nice festive Christmas tree behind them.
Ominous voiceover, ending with our first look at Timothy Dalton.
Building site at night. The Doctor and the Master face each other. The Master now has zappy hands. I eat another biscuit. The Master finally zaps the Doctor with his magic zap hands and the Doctor goes down. The Master squats in front of him and reminisces about the good old days. He wants to have a Christmas dinner I assume as he lists all our delicious Crimbo nibbles. Then he rants about the noise in his head and makes the Doctor listen, before doing a megajump with zappy hands.
Then a helicopter shows up and takes him away, bye.
The Noble family are opening presents because it's Christmas, no really. Donna has given Wilf a book featuring our mysterious Ood vision king. Donna's fiance comes in to remind us that Obama is going to single-handedly end recession, but before that, Wilf wants to watch the Queen's speech, but when he switches it on, the mysterious woman in white hijacks the broadcast. She basically tells him he'll have to kill a dude. Oh, and not to tell the Doctor, shh.
So he goes and gets his gun, just in time for the Doctor to show up and ask for his help, has he seen anything weird. Instead of mentioning the woman, he gets the book Donna gave him and the Doctor confirms that yup, that's the guy from his Ood vision.
Then Sylvia shows up and warns him off, they hear Donna's voice and so Wilf and the Doctor nip off in the TARDIS.
Wilf is not impressed with the TARDIS. He thought it'd be cleaner. He suggests going back in time to stop all this before it starts. The Doctor says nope.
We go back to the weird lab and the Master is now in a straightjacket and I am super deeply uncomfy with all *waves hands at the Master in general* this.
Two of the scientists nip out and have a little panic. And they're aliens! Very spiky, very Meglos. They decide to roll with it.
The Master would like to eat some people. They give him a turkey instead, which he eats with his bare hands, just to reinforce the ranty, unkempt crazy vibes. It’s… not cool.
Ood-vision King Josh says the gate can heal cellular damage, so he wants the Master to fix it properly so he can use it to make his daughter live forever and it's all vaguely incesty.
The Doctor and Wilf pop in on our alien scientists and the Doctor instantly twigs that they're in disguise. One of them denies it, so the Doctor sonics her disguise off and Wilf is all 'she's a cactus!' It's rude, but amusing.
The Master has finished fixing the gate already, so King Josh orders him to be restrained again, which is rather unfair.
The Doctor sonics the second alien out of disguise and they admit they're salvage, the gate is a medical device but it heals whole planets, sending out a template across entire populations, which is when the Doctor figures out the Master's cunning plan and goes running.
Time for Obama's broadcast! The Doctor runs up and yells at everyone to turn off the gate and not let the Master near it, which is when he breaks out of his straightjacket and zappyjumps right in there. Nobody can deactivate it, because oops, the Master's in their heads. The Doctor shoves Wilf into a booth, which protects him from being Master'd.
Donna calls Wilf because her mum and fiance have frozen.
The Master gloats, Everybodys heads go all shaky... and they all turn into the Master. Donna starts remembering. Wilf calls the Master a monster and all the Masters pop up and ask if he means him and ngl, it's funny.
Scenes of them all popping out of their flats and point and laughing at each other like a Limmy sketch.
And then Timothy Dalton does some more monologuing, with a little bonus example of why face masks are important, and then announces the return of the Time Lords.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Yeah, I still don't particularly enjoy this one.

Are there any fiction books you would recommend I am stuck in isolation and need some book recommendations
One of my favorite books I actually read because of Skins- it’s called “Kitchen” by Banana Yoshimoto and it’s listed as one of Cassie’s favorite books. Other books I love are The Night Circus and The Starless Sea, both by Erin Morgenstern, Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan, The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery, The Tiny Wife by Andrew Kaufman, anything by Madeline L'Engle, Franny and Zooey by JD Salinger, We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson, The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood, Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote, Saffy’s Angel by Hillary McKay, The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson, Vicious by VE Schwab, and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. And for series, Harry Potter (of course), A Series of Unfortunate Events, and the Children of the Red King series.
If you tell me what types of books you like, I can give some more specific recommendations as well.

REPLIES TO ROY & JOËL
Tumblr media
@streetlightaurora
This is not going to be pretty 😬
Tumblr media
@wannabecatwriter
At least, he’s planning to tell the truth. Let’s see if he does.
The news about the baby rattled him, knowing that Anita had taken a white llama. He knew he didn’t have any choice.
@sweetnovember77
ROY BETTER PREACH!!! Before you judge him, make sure you’re perfect. Saffy hunted him down. Therefore, Roy is NOT the problem. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. 😂 #TeamRoy!!!
Tumblr media
@shhhushhh
Your last ask reply and this post made me remember why I love Roy so much. I’m still struggling with his decision to reunite with Sao and divorce Sonia (I know it’s best for everyone but I struggle with changes). But he is good and sensitive man when it comes to his close people. He is just a man, not a saint (which makes him a hindred times more lovable).
Roy in a nutshell. ;=) Thank you, Beautiful Mirena.❤️
@shhhushhh
Also I feel Roy is not only a friend who will come at night to help you change a tire, but bury a body as well 😁🖤
I loved this so much I’ve added it to his bio!
@windermeresimblr
Nope, Saoirse, stay out of this. I mean, unless Joël’s about to put Roy in the hospital.
Roy is the love of her life, I think it makes sense that she would go to him when he’s hurt?
@shhhushhh
You wonderful post put me into contemplating state… We people (apart from those mythical emotionally stable ones that scare me to death…) we always have that urge to put the blame on someone, very often on ourselves too, for what is happening to us or around us. And so many times shit just happens and noone is guilty. But it seems so hard to accept it.
Like in the given situation I realized - noone is actually guilty for anything. Not even Anita, as I stated before out of anger for emotionally harassing her child. She didn’t know she was pregnant  and there is no guilt for wanting to have fun. As there is no guilt that already adult Saff wanted to bond with her mother. Or Roy for supplying the pills - the Saffron would have probably found from another place.
And I feel JoJo has just realized it and that made him feel so helpless. On a human level I relate to him so so much in that very moment. Shit sometimes just happens…
Thank you, thank you for getting it. Yes, nobody in this situation is guilty, they are all victims of an unfortunate series of events and bad timing, but it is normal to try and apportion blame, to find a scapegoat. It’s an example of the just-world fallacy, as you described so perfectly. When people fall victim to misfortune, they tend to look for things that might explain their circumstances. It’s almost a knee-jerk reaction, to look for someone or something to blame rather than simply attributing something bad happening to bad luck. I think you’re right and Joël does realise that the world is intrinsically unfair and unjust, but his fear concerning the baby overrode his commonsense. Lashing out at Roy gave him a brief respite from the terrible truth, that nobody is responsible for stuff going wrong in the universe.
@wannabecatwriter
Well! I must admitt I didn’t see this sort of a reaction coming. Then again, even calm people like Joel have a limit and once they get pushed past it… Roy just found out about all that.
Heh, Joël is a Scorpio and I found this quote which I think describes him perfectly: For the most part, Scorpios have a knack for remaining composed. … However, there are a few special instances when Scorpios get stretched to the limit and they lose their temper. When this happens, it’s best to run as far away as possible.
@phoenixfg
😬😬 Saoirse(how do you pronounce her name?? I’ve been meaning to ask!) needs to stay out of it for now. These two have some talking to do.
According to this site, the correction pronounciation of “Saoirse” is “Ser-sha” — it rhymes with “inertia.” And I think it was a natural reaction for her to run to Roy’s side when he was hurt.
@streetlightaurora
Saoirse doesn’t know what they’re fighting about and it’s instinct to try to butt in when someone you love is getting beaten. Roy’s taking it because he knows about Anita. I just hope that Joel understands Roy’s point - if Saffy was determined to get white llamas, she would have. Better to get it from someone who will give it to her without having to deal with someone looking to either take advantage of her or one that would sell it to her cut with God knows what.
Thank you, I agree with you wholeheartedly. And thank you for getting that Roy is copping it sweet. Hopefully common sense will prevail once emotions aren’t running so high, and Anita and Jojo will appreciate that Roy may actually have done them a favour by getting Saffron high quality drugs!
@zx-ta
The thing is I think Roy actually did the right thing, if he refused Saffron’s deal she would have asked someone else and probably got some very bad drugs from them.
Tumblr media
@sweetnovember77
Well, Roy appears to understand that he had it coming. So, he has no choice but to take it like a man.
That’s right. Knowing about Anita’s pregnancy, he had no choice but to cop it sweet.
@kscriba
jojo and anita are a dangerous couple for roy’s beautiful face.
Lolololol! And I’m sure a lot of people will disagree, but I think the integrity he displayed in this scene made him even more beautiful.
@dreamsascend
Oh my god
Tumblr media
@dreamsascend
I think the right thing to do was, to not give saff the drugs and tell her parents she was seeking to buy or have it in her grasp. But, like the rest as stated, she might go all out to get it nevertheless by god knows who and it’s better to get it from roy. I don’t know. My conscience would never permit to give drugs to a minor let alone anyone. I blame the adults. They should know better.
Yes, Roy did make an error of judgment there, but he could argue that he was acting in Saffron’s best interests (which was what he was trying to say before Joël punched him) and Saffron is 18, technically not a minor. I think though that even if the issue of Anita being pregnant didn’t exist, Joël and Anita would still be upset that Roy procured drugs for Saffron. It just feels morally wrong, not matter how well Roy and Saffy could try and justify it. I think it’s also worth mentioning that Roy is a party animal, and his POV concerning party drugs is probably different  from most people’s. Which I’m sure is why Saffron targeted him!
@muses-circle
“Totally going to fully confess” that’s bull, Roy. You were never going to confess. You’re only doing it now because you got caught. I admit that watching JoJo sock the snot out of Roy was satisfying 🍿, but I do wonder how this is going to impact their friendship.
But he was going to confess, as outlined here. Granted, he wouldn’t have confessed if he hadn’t learned that Anita was pregnant, but he still had every intention of telling Joël when he arrived at the apartment.
@alittledaylight
Good! I know they will kiss and makeup as good friends do but Roy needed to see the raw consequences of his actions for a change - Joel’s pain! 😤
It was not the most intelligent decision for Roy to obtain drugs for Saffron, not matter how he tries to justify it….I think he has learned a very valuable lesson here, whatever the outcome.
@simsloveaffairreblogs
I knew that Joël was mad, but I didn’t see this coming! Roy has gotten it from Anita and now Joël. I’m guessing that eventually, he’ll see that his actions have real consequences. I have a feeling that the baby will be just fine though
Yeah I wonder if Saffron or Jared will be next in line to let Roy have it, lololol! I think too he was genuinely shocked and blindsided by the repercussions. and fingers crossed for the baby AND Roy and Joël’s friendship!

saffire’s lagoon, known affectionately and almost exclusively by locals in the area as saffy’s, is a beach-themed dive bar a few miles from ucf’s campus. opened in 2010 by a ucf grad who never quite got over his senior spring break trip to cancun, it’s known for its cheap drinks and lax security, making it a favorite among college kids and young adults. saffy’s features over ten bars inside and outside, a shot wheel, and a large man-made “beach” - an outdoor area covered in sand with a few “lagoons” throughout, where you’ll find mermaids pouring shots thursday through saturday. no one would ever describe saffy’s as quiet or clean and the service most nights is questionable at best, but it’s developed an almost cult-like following in the years it’s been open. people love saffy’s for what it is - a place to see classmates (or old classmates), drink $2 beer, and make questionable decisions without judgment.
hm? is this based on my two favorite bars bc i don’t know if i’ll get to go this summer? mayhaps!! but in any case, i’m looking for a group of co-dependent co-workers who contribute to the charm and the chaos that is saffy’s.
JACK / owner (first last, 32+, played by name) — founded saffire’s lagoon sometime after his college graduation in 2010 - whether it was a quarter-life crisis or a lifelong dream, the story changes depending on who asks. big time peter pan complex, could stand to do some growing up, just might for LAURA if she would ever give him the time of day. may or may not be the reason that the whole “never trust a man whose name starts with j” trend started going around, but he takes excellent care of the people he employs. despite his carefree attitude, saffy’s is his baby, he put blood, sweat, and tears into making it what it is, and he continues to work hard to ensure it’s success.
LAURA / front bar (first last, 30+, reserved for del) — has been working at saffy’s for as long as it’s been open and is almost as integral to its success as JACK is. the two of them are as close as one would expect after working together for ten years, although LAURA refuses to acknowledge that time they slept together after the infamous Holiday Party of 2015. she’s got the patience of a saint, usually the one left to train the new employees and ultimately decide who makes it working here or not. a tough love kinda gal, but always willing to lend a helping hand for the greater good. good at her job, dammit, just don’t try to pry into her personal life.
CALEB / beach bar (first last, 25+, played by name) — CALEB is LAURA’S younger brother (or cousin or bff, utp!!), something the rest of the staff figured out quick because his behavior would never have flown otherwise. like, LAURA once caught him and RILEY doing coke in the bathroom during one of their breaks but let it go. also sometimes drinks on the job when he feels like it. lazy, but well-meaning, no one can find it in their heart to stay mad at CALEB for too long, even when they have to pick up his slack. prefers to spend his shifts flirting with JACK, too preoccupied looking around to see where he’s at on any given night to notice that ANGEL has been trying to get his attention.
ANGEL / beach bar (first last, 22+, reserved for jenn) — despite being hired around the same time as RILEY, MARA, OLIVER, and KYLE, no one knows much of anything about angel. but it’s not for lack of trying. it’s gotten to the point where the co-workers make up stories about her background and place bets on who can get closest to the truth, if ANGEL is willing to confirm anything in the first place. it’s not that she don’t want to share anything about herself, she’s just quiet, and it’s become kind of fun being the mysterious one in the bar. unbeknownst to the rest of the group, and without even realizing it himself, CALEB knows ANGEL better than anyone else.
RILEY / shot wheel + mermaid (riley emerson, 22, sydney sweeney, played by alex) — applied to work at saffy’s because her boyfriend at the time, KYLE, got an interview. they broke up (for the first time) shortly after, but she decided not to quit bc she really liked the attention of bartending. they’ve been off and on for the majority of their time at saffy’s, though in the last year or so, they broke up for good. RILEY is easygoing and friendly, usually the one found playing therapist to drunk girls at her bar. sometimes acts without thinking which has gotten her into more than a few sticky situations. trying to be more responsible now that she’s a college grad, which finds her turning down all of OLIVER’S advances.
MARA / beach bar + mermaid (holly mack, 24, kristine froseth, played by maddie) — MARA’S got a rep for being kinda mean to customers, but she’s so pretty that no one has ever complained. lives with the RILEY, but whether they hate or love each other just depends on the day. they had a 3-way with KYLE after the aforementioned Holiday Party of 2015, which continues to be the butt of many jokes among the staff. went on a date with KYLE shortly after that, but felt guilty bc of his relationship with RILEY so she made him swear to keep it a secret and she keeps him at an arm’s length to this day.
OLIVER / bouncer (first last, 22+, reserved for bribri) — something of a celebrity in the bar - there was once an entire instagram account dedicated to “saffy’s hot bouncer”. the attention mostly goes over his head, but JACK is happy to have him outside the front door most nights to bring business in. OLIVER’S a good guy, level-headed and patient enough to break up fights and turn away drunk people without anything ever escalating. he’s had a crush on RILEY since they all started working together four years ago, but kept his distance out of respect for KYLE. now that they’ve finally broken up, the two of them have been getting a lot closer, but he can’t tell how she actually feels about it.
KYLE / shot wheel (first last, 22+ reserved for derek) —KYLE is the resident himbo. pretty harmless because he’s so dumb, although like RILEY, he trends towards impulsiveness more often than not. KYLE’S the one behind some of the more chaotic practices and themes at saffy’s (i.e.: hawaiian shirt night). only got put at the shot wheel because they needed someone tall enough and strong enough to be able to spin it. he’s been trying to get moved to the beach bar so that he can spend more time with MARA because he knows that he can charm her if he can just get the chance.
ok so! this is just a list of co-workers that riley is closest with, but i am completely open to other staff members as well! they can be intermingled with the core group i have listed if you have ideas, or they can just be begrudging witnesses as they try to go about their job. i’m also open to other positions besides bartenders/bouncers, like bar backs and cooks, or the more administrative side of things, like marketing managers or operations. just let me know if you’re looking for a job for your character and what you have in mind, i’d be more than happy to squeeze as many people in as possible! reply here or add me on discord (alex???#0019) and i’d be happy to chat. thx for reading :)
