no one asked but here's my skincare routine xx 🌚 (including pictures of all the products !)
i'm a teen with acne-prone slightly sensitive skin that gets oily by the end of the day🧖♀️
(i'm 99% sure i'm allergic to salicylic acid bc it didn't help with my breakouts/caused them so i avoid it in my routine❕)
as a makeup remover i use the elf holy hydration makeup melting balm 🚿
& a makeup eraser cloth 🧽
for stubborn waterproof eye makeup i use garnier skin active micellar cleaning water all-in-1 waterproof (aka the blue one) i have a huge bottle of it :)💧
(i want to start using reusable cotton rounds so pls lmk of any good brands !)
i just ran out but if i haven't worn makeup but my pores feel especially clogged i use the burt's bees oil cleanser 🥥 (you do have to double cleanse with a water based cleanser afterwards !)
for a daily water-based facial cleanser i use two different ones
the cerave foaming facial cleanser 🧼 "oil control" on the bottle is no joke ! i don't get oily in the day anymore bc of the niacinamide in this :)
but it can be a little drying/strong so i mix it with the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser 🛁
i use this really cheap & generic silicone face scrubber for my nostrils/chin/sideburn-hairline area 🧽
once a week i use this scrub pixi peel and polish its a mask with physical and chemical exfoliants
it smells like lemon cucumber water🥒 and can also be used for body acne on the chest, back, & arms !!
once a week i use an AHA chemical exfoliant it's elf supertone toner 🌝 it has glycolic acid and is has a little bit of a lemony scent
what i use as a daily toner is thayer's rose-scented witch hazel spray 💌 it calms down any redness i have instantly !
i used to use the cerave daily moisturizing lotion but it was a little oily and it was impossible to apply makeup on 🧘 so now i use it on my hands before doing my facial moisturizer
and for that i use a mix of elf holy hydration gel-yeah moisturizer and elf holy hydration face cream 💦 it's pretty self-explanatory but the former is a clear gel and the latter is a white cream, i adjust the proportions for my moisture needs :) ⛲️
in the winter or if my face feels dry or in need of healing i use clinique moisture surge overnight face mask 🦪
"mask" is a little misleading as you just apply it with your moisturizer like any other lotion 🧴 it's super hydrating, it's a little expensive but i got it as a gift and a little goes a long way ! :)
after a breakout has healed completely i use a little bio oil on top of my moisturizer to fade any dark spots/scars 🐚
after i shower and exfoliate my lips i use this random lip mask from bath and body works that's watermelon scented 🍉 it's thick (a little goes a long way) and yummy
i also use smith's rosebud salve in this tin 🌹 it's like a nice scented vaseline
i don't use it all the time bc it's expensive but i love the mario badescu caffeine eye cream💆it's so good for my sunken dark circles ! but avoid getting it in your eye and keeping it in the bathroom bc it curdles if it gets too hot from shower steam
for active acne spots i use might patch pimple patches 🩹regular for whiteheads and micropoint ones for swollen spots under the skin
those are pretty expensive so for smaller spots i use mario badescu drying lotion overnight 🫧
i'm pretty bad at remembering sunscreen in the morning but i just got the glow recipe dew balm with spf 45 and niacinamide 🌸 i love the glow and the light fruity scent :)
i do want mention that my life-saver game-changer for stopping cystic acne (those painful lumps deep in the skin) and just acne in general has been hormonal birth control pills ! after i started BC for pcos/hormonal reason all of my breakouts decreased significantly🪽
I've been searching for a more gentle cleansing option for the morning. I feel like the current cleanser I use is too harsh on my skin. I came to this realization after skipping my morning face cleanse for a few days and realized how much clearer and less inflamed my skin was. I do wear a heavy night cream and I generally have oily skin, so I do want to still cleanse in the morning, just not as deep as a cleanse as before. I think using just a micellar water would be perfect! I remember I watched Cindy Bruna's Harper's Bazaar nighttime routine and she just cleansed with micellar water and her skin is great!

There are so many micellar water options on the market. Most popular is Garnier micellar water which I've used in the past, but I'm actually obsessed with the Thayer's milky toner! I love the consistency and hydration and I essentially use it like a toner/serum, so I want to try the Drunk Elephant micellar water because it has a similar milky texture.

Bit of an odd month this one for me personally. The highlight was definetly seeing Tenacious D live though!
10 out of 10 the gig & I would defintely recommend seeing them live.
Empties wise, I got through quite a lot of stuff, so we'll move onto them.
Some of them are rebuys, so as usual, they won't be mentioned:
Nivea Sun UV Face Shine Control SPF 50:
SPF is so important to use. Not only can it prevent sunburn & damage from the UV rays etc, it also helps prevent getting skin cancer. I've been using this for a while now- it's specifically formulated to be used on your face, it's not heavy & it hasn't broken me out. I have oily skin & this helps mattify it.
Dr Paw Paw Overnight Lip Mask:
This I've also been using for a while- it's the little tube of it & I'm surprised how long it's lasted considering I've used it every night! I tend to use this to 'slug' my lips at night (ie using a lip balm then putting this over the top of it). It's helped keep my lips soft. It is very thick so I wouldn't recommend if you have a problem with thick things on your lips. It claims its lip plumping, but I haven't noticed that but it is amazing.
Soap & Glory In the Glow How Exfoilating Tonic:
I love this stuff so so much! A bottle of this can last me a good few months- I use it once a week (it suggests daily but that's a bit too much for me) & it leaves my skin looking & feeling super clean. The smell is also very orangey so that's something to be aware of if you don't like scents in skin products. I will be replacing this with the Pixi Glow Tonic (which I also love) as I tend to alternate between the two.
Simple Micellar Water:
Just a simple Micellar water. Same as the Garnier & Sainsburys one. Not much else to add really.
Me+ by Superdrug Niacinamide & Zinc Booster:
I really like this- & the added zinc is a bonus. It's not sticky (it's quite runny), though it does have a strong chemical scent. It does what it says it's does on the bottle & leaves my skin feeling soft afterwards.
Boots Everyday Zesty Lemon Shower Gel:
This performs as well as the other two shower gels that I've used by the Everyday collection from Boots- however, this one smells super lemony.
Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub:
This smelt more sweet lime than the body butter did! It's very scrubby, but it doesn't foam (than get quite messy as well though not as bad as thr coffee body scrub I used a few months back). I really do like Soap & Glory products which I think is pretty obvious.
And that's that for May. No makeup stuff, though who knows if that will change next month?
Micellar water, a product that once sounded more like a fancy laboratory chemical than a skincare essential, has now become a staple in beauty cabinets around the globe. From humble beginnings in French pharmacies to becoming a global beauty must-have, micellar water has garnered a dedicated following thanks to its simplicity and efficacy. This post explores the science behind micellar water, its…
I like to test skincare via sample sizes to make sure I like the product before purchasing a full size. Here are my thoughts on recent purchases.
This moisturizer is really nice, with a thick, creamy consistency. Very effective. Would recommend for people with Normal to Dry Skin, especially if your skin leans more towards sensitivity. It's fragrance free and contains hyaluronic acid, which I particularly enjoy under my eyes and around my nose area.
I wouldn't recommend this product if you don't have dry skin. However, when I purchased this, it was autumn, so my skin was (and kinda still is) a lil bit crusty from the temperature and humidity changes, especially around my nose. I really needed as much hydration as I could get, especially when I got sick around the beginning of September and my nose was extremely raw.
I can't say this will become a year-round staple, since my skin tends to go oily in the summertime, but as a winter moisturizer, it's splendid. It didn't irritate my skin, create acne, or make my cheeks feel greasy, even around the area where my glasses meet my face. I hope the full sized bottles are small enough that I'll be able to use one up in four months; if not, I'll have to check the expiration dates.
If you have year-round dry skin, this moisturizer might be worth exploring as a yearly staple. I'll see if the moisturizer for oily skin from CeraVe is just as good during the summertime.
I didn't like this product, or any of the other Micellar Water products I've tried from Garnier. And to be fair to Garnier, I kind of knew I wouldn't before I bought this product. Micellar Water just doesn't work very well for me. I decided to give Micellar Water one last try because it was on clearance at CVS for $2, and my boss paid for it.
I found that this product in particular left a lot of makeup on my face, which seems to defeat the purpose of a cleanser that advertises itself to remove makeup. It also irritated my skin, leaving it very itchy and red after use.
I noticed a lot of uncharacteristically painful acne while I was using this product, as well, which doesn't bode well for the integrity of my skin's natural moisture barrier, if we're being honest. My acne tends to mostly be hormonal, so seeing new acne is an indicator that my skin doesn't like something; the severity of this new acne is a problem for me.
In other words: I expected gentle chemical exfoliation from this product. Instead, I got the chemical equivalent of sandpaper.
It's probably my fault for trying a product that advertised "brightening" properties (though worth noting, my skin seemed lifeless and dull while I was using this product, so I don't even think it brightens).
I gave it a fair chance, as we can see by the fact that I used all of it up, but I won't repurchase this. I'm looking into the ELF Holy Hydration Cleansing Balm for a makeup remover. For right now, I'm back to using Petroleum Jelly, which I know isn't ideal, but it's still better than this.
