My least favorite thing right now about my professional life is that whenever I honor my rest and care, my work suffers, but as soon as I abandon myself, sleep so little, and hyperfocus, of course production occurs. It is not sustainable but I exist in a results driven environment. I'm not sure whether my work is good in either scenario, but I care more that I'm good. I love being great and producing greatness, but I'm realizing that my greatness needs cultivation, or rather I'm missing formulas to execute efficiently, I'm not sure, I know I feel soulless when I'm unable to put my heart and soul into things. Learning slowly and slowly that my passion cannot lie in my profession. The notion is both terrifying and freeing.

Next in Skincare ...
Tumblr media
I've been searching for a more gentle cleansing option for the morning. I feel like the current cleanser I use is too harsh on my skin. I came to this realization after skipping my morning face cleanse for a few days and realized how much clearer and less inflamed my skin was. I do wear a heavy night cream and I generally have oily skin, so I do want to still cleanse in the morning, just not as deep as a cleanse as before. I think using just a micellar water would be perfect! I remember I watched Cindy Bruna's Harper's Bazaar nighttime routine and she just cleansed with micellar water and her skin is great!
youtube
There are so many micellar water options on the market. Most popular is Garnier micellar water which I've used in the past, but I'm actually obsessed with the Thayer's milky toner! I love the consistency and hydration and I essentially use it like a toner/serum, so I want to try the Drunk Elephant micellar water because it has a similar milky texture.

I have a presentation for class this week...
Tumblr media
I have a presentation for class this week and I just came down with a cold----I mean its either a sinus infection or covid. I think its a sinus infection but I will take a test to be sure. Ughhh, I know I will get through everything like I always do but this is a definite test of my willpower. It's in these moments that show you what you're made of. Key word is "you" because no one needs to know your struggles. Give your very best that you can at the moment, because your good enough is often other people's excellence. And if you don't do as hot on your performance, if you receive any feedback, you can digest it easier or completely ignore it because you know your current status and limitations. It's always you vs. you. And of course, God.

hello! I came to ask some advice. I feel pressured by glow up culture. I read blogs that talk about motivation and stuff but it just makes me feel more guilt. I feel bad for not working out and doing all of this self help stuff. I keep comparing myself and forgetting my goals. Any advice?
you don't have to feel guilty and you don't have to glow up. a lot of the advice you see on social media is quite extreme because it's based in harmful beauty standards.
you don't have to do it all, i sure as hell don't. very few people in the world have the money and the time to hold themselves to the standards they show online.
the most important thing to remember, is that self improvement is a journey. it's about building up the tools and resources to make yourself a better you.
if you're "glowing up" to seem more impressive or because you feel you have to, your results will be unsustainable and you will never be fulfilled. take things one step at a time, day by day. do what feels good and what builds on the goals you've set for yourself.
and most importantly, fight the urge to compare yourself to others in whatever way you can. comparing yourself to other people will only set you back. the point of looking at content around glowing up is to inspire you, if it's doing the opposite it's time to go outside and remember that this bubble on the internet is just that.

Being a young woman in academia, I constantly have to balance between being professional and stern but also young and hot. Very hard work but I get it done ✔

Nails Inspo vs. My Nails 💅🏾
My manicurist did such a great job. I give presentations a lot for class and I'm in constant contact with professional scholars. I like for my hands to represent me along with my intellect. Ladies, remember you can be the smartest and prettiest in the room. Don't let anyone tell you different! This is going to be my new go to style. No chip French mani on natural nails. This style is classy and elegant for any academic or professional setting!!

choosing to forgive myself, choosing to return to love and compassion, choosing to let go of unhealthy coping mechanisms and move to healthier ones, choosing to stay alive. over and over and over again. as many times as it takes.

Ughhh forgot to update!!!!
Conference went really well. Someone said they look forward to my research coming out which is such a great thing to hear after your presentation. And I really liked how I looked. I got the best dresses from both Nordstrom and Amazon (let me know if you want links or advice on professional attire for conference and academic settings)
I trimmed my own hair at home. Still on the fence whether I want to get a silk press or do it myself in 3 months. I really hate people in my hair but I also want it professionally tended to.
I decided not to take exams and I'm rerouting my academic journey. I'm really listening to my heart and not allowing anyone to rush me
Yay!! I've been alcohol free for like 6 months! It feels so good to go out with friends and not get a drink. I didn't have an issue with alcohol and I rarely go out but I felt like having a drink on a Saturday or Sunday interfered with all of my academic work so no bueno. I want to feel alert and bright at all times.
My apartment is coming together nicely. It feels more lived in which is nice
I found the best dentist. It's on a top floor of an office building and overlooks the city. My dentist and the assistants are really nice and kind without being invasive about personal questions or small talk which is chef's kiss for me
Facial, I plan to get one at the end of the month. I'm going to budget to get bi weekly facials for the new year!
What the rest of my 2022 looks like:
conference presentation
passing exams for candidacy
quarterly silk press and trim
no alcohol until the new year
apartment 90% decorated
dentist visit
facial
