uhh hi !! I was just wondering if i could request Cove with a s/o who's depressed/has depression? cove is my highest comfort character so yeah lol

A/N: I personally also have depression, but I tried to make it as general as possible and cover a wide variety of symptoms. I will not be touching on self-harm or suicidal thoughts though, as that can be incredibly triggering. Thank you for the request and I hope you’re well, anon ♡

➸ Cove Holden

When you start showing symptoms of depression, Cove is concerned to say the absolute least. He’s worried beyond belief, and he wants to do everything in his power to help.

Whenever you’re upset, Cove just wants to shield you away, holding you until it’s passed but he knows he cannot do that forever

He tries his best to bring you out of the house, to go surfing or sit on the beach, or even just get a bite to eat. But if you really don’t want to go out, he’ll sit in your room with you, comforting you when you need it. 

If you get angry at him, he doesn’t take it personally, knowing it’s a facet of your depression. But it doesn’t hurt him any less to see the flames of agitation burn in your eyes as you look at him. If he caused it, he will always apologize and give you time to yourself if you prefer. 

If you lose interest in your hobbies, he’ll push you to do what you love just a little. If you like to write, he’ll encourage you to go onto your laptop or grab the pen and just write whatever is in your mind, no matter how messy the thoughts. If you like to paint, he’ll encourage you to just put paint onto the canvas, no matter how nonsensical the brushstrokes. 

If you’re having trouble sleeping, he’ll stay up with you some nights just to talk and distract you from the weight on your chest. Or if you’d prefer, he’ll hold you as he sleeps peacefully beside you as he hopes his heartbeat will lull you to sleep.

When you’re upset and crying and wanting to scream at the world, he’ll hold you as long as you’ll let him. If you want to talk out what you’re feeling, he’ll be a nonjudgmental ear to listen, and if requested, he will help you think it through. For example, if you feel you are worthless, he’ll point out the ways in which you are full of worth and encourage you to point out things about yourself that are not worthless. 

Despite your depression, Cove will not love you any less. He will be there to help as much as you’d like and will stand by your side no matter what happens.

Garrus propaganda:

"Garrus is a character who went from being a shit head punk in ME1 and grows and betters himself over the games. He talks over the hard choices in ME3 without judging Shepard no matter what they choice. He is pretty much the first to stand up for them and even when his own home is being destroyed and he doesn’t know if his father and sister are alive he’s there for SHEPARD. He is there for the person who is always there for everyone else! ME3 Garrus is honestly Best Garrus and I want to celebrate how good his character arc is over the games.

And the best part is: the romance doesn’t fix him. He still grows and improves if you romance him or not!

Idk, I just don’t think it’s super fair to reduce him to his ME1 character when the fact that him growing and improving is the part I like best about him. Garrus, to me, shows you can always get better and life is about always getting better. It’s never too late to be better.

And he has the power to make Shepard dance good in the Citadel DLC."

Cove’s hands traveled across your body, an almost motherly expression on his face. "I feel like your fever's gotten worse."

You turn over in his tight hold, your eyes clashing with the ocean. "Maybe it's because you keep cuddling me."

Cove doesn’t reply. He doesn’t have to, really. A hand of his stays at your waist while one travels up to your chest. He places it on your heart and feels his heartbeat beat at the same time as yours. It’s gentle, but so prominent.

You place your head over his chest. He notices you’re warm, really warm.  He goes to offer some water, or maybe soup, but you tell him you’re fine. 

At that moment, it’s only you and him who exist. Everybody else in your neighborhood doesn’t matter, it’s only your home that has life in it. His fingers draw circles against your skin, and if your fever wasn’t making it hard enough to keep your eyes open, he was definitely elevating that battle. He notices this, just like every other little thing about you, and you can’t stop him from offering this time. “I really don’t mind making you soup.”

“I do.” You lift your head and try to keep your eyes open to meet his again, and almost immediately drop it.

“Oh.” You watch as his eyes follow to the ground, but the corner of his lips tug into a small smile.

You lazily wrap an arm around his waist, pulling him even closer than your bodies would allow. You match his breathing with his, and suddenly everything sucks a lot less. You stay like that for a moment before deciding you needed his voice again. “Do you think we would’ve found each other in another life?”

He doesn’t miss a beat before replying with; “Of course.”

“...Same. I think that if you were an otter, I’d never let go of you so we never drifted apart,” You paused. You met his eyes again, smiling softly. “If you were a prince in a foreign land, and you were forced to marry someone else, I’d help you run away. I’d send you love letters every night and pray you’d read them.”  You closed your eyes and hum, comfortably. You barely even notice that his eyes lingered on your figure. He takes a deep breath, and you feel his voice.

"...I think that, if you were a star, I'd become an astronaut. And I'd study you for years to come."

You hum, closing your eyes once again and letting yourself sink into his presence. "And what if I exploded? Like a supernova?"

"Then I'd take the little pieces of your stardust and compact you back together."

"And if I slip through your fingers?"

He pressed a kiss in between your eyes. You can feel him smile against your skin. "Then I would know that it's for the better. I'd make sure every scientist and astrologer alike knew your name. And you'd still be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," he pauses to take a breath, bittersweetly smiling. “I think I’d always miss you in my bones. Grief and growing wouldn’t be enough to forget about you. About us.”

You don’t reply at first. You’re thinking about what to say when his hands come up to your scalp to play with your hair, his fingernails scratch against your scalp and you can’t keep your eyes open anymore. 

Once Cove notices you on the brink of unconsciousness, he laughs and you can feel it vibrate through your bodies. He kisses the crown of your head. He says something, but you didn’t quite hear his voice. You only heard his heartbeat.

“I’ll love you when our hair turns gray. We’ll live in an old cottage, maybe not too far away from here so our kids could still have an experience like ours. Maybe not. I’m not too sure yet,” his fingers curl around some wisps of hair and pull you further into a sleepy trance. “...We could have a cardboard box full of photos throughout our life. I’m sure your moms have some baby pictures of us together. I think our kids would be envious of us.” He seals off his speech with a chuckle.

You don’t know which hand it was, but one of his hands starts holding one of yours. He presses a kiss to your cheekbone and whispers against your ear. “I love you.”

You knew that already. You squeeze his hand three times. You love him too.

Hi there!! I've noticed a couple of your Our Life headcanon requests and they're really good 😭 so I was hoping it would be okay if I requested some headcanons for Cove X an autistic S/O? I know a lot of symptoms overlap with ADHD so I get it if you wanna skip this one since you already did one for ADHD!! The fact that Cove himself is autistic just made it seem like it could lead to a really cute dynamic ;v; but again no pressure!! I hope you have a lovely day!!

A/N: Just wanted to reiterate as in the Kumon x Autistic! S/O that I am not diagnosed with autism (although now we suspect I may have it) but I also did research on how to write an autistic person as I don’t feel comfortable going by my experiences alone. If anything I’ve said is incorrect or insensitive, please correct me and I will address it immediately. If I missed anything, let me know and I’ll write more headcanons ♡ I hope you have a lovely day as well!!

Cove Holden loves being able to relate to you with you both being autistic. He feels like he can understand you better, and that you can better understand him! 

If you find it hard to understand the implications in sentences or phrases, he’ll explain it to you with no questions asked. And if you prefer, he’ll also use tone tags in texts. 

He can get pretty anxious about social situations, so if you do as well he can’t help but breathe a slight sigh of relief that he’s not alone. But you both still try to support and help each other get through social situations, such as the banquets for the charity Cove volunteers for. You give each other excuses for breaks if you need to step out and have a breather, whether it be together or by oneself. 

Whenever you experience sensory overload around him, he’ll be there to help! He makes sure to have a conversation with you so he can have guidelines in place of things he should or shouldn’t do, as everyone is different when experiencing sensory overload, and will follow those guidelines when the need arises. If you’re able to communicate what caused/is causing the sensory overload, he’ll do his best to stop whatever it is or remove you from the situation if that’s what you’d like. 

If you get anxious about routine changes, he’ll try to keep a routine with you! He knows that consistency puts your nerves at ease and that having that disrupted can be anxiety inducing, so he does his best to not shift your routine. And if he doesn, he does his best to give you a warning beforehand, or if you’d like, he’ll help you cope with the routine change. 

Cove loves listening to you talk about your special interest(s)! He’ll listen to you talk about them for as long as you’d like to, never getting bored of you or the sound of your voice. 

If you like to stim and use stim toys, Cove will definitely get you new ones as gifts! No matter if it’s spin rings, chew necklaces, or stress balls, if he sees them being worn down due to your use, he’ll ask if you’d like a new one and get it for you! If you’re okay with surprises, he may surprise you with new ones as well. 

Cove just loves everything about you, and he feels closer to you that you can both share your experiences with a shared diagnosis.
