2024 Year In Review

2024 was another intense year. It was the first time in twenty years I wasn’t scoring a show for TV, and I got to concentrate on finishing albums and starting new projects. The year began with the premiere of my chamber symphony for Alterity Chamber Orchestra in Orlando and ended with guest-vocalizing with the Losers Lounge Band on a Bowie classic at Joe's Pub in NYC. I completed new albums for Xordox and Venture Bros, to be released in 2025. I released an Archer Soundtrack album and scored a Harry Smith film for L’Etrange Festival in Paris. Worked with Laura Wolf on a new project and premiered my Ensemble project at the Big Ears Festival in Tennessee. Recorded many overdubs for the next Foetus album, also to be released in 2025. Began a new series of sculptural wall pieces. We lost Phill Niblock in January and Steve Albini in May. We lost my colleague Roli Mosimann in September. I still woke up 5am in a panic on too many occasions. As a cultural omnivore, many sights, sounds and stimuli penetrated me.

Stiles had thought Derek would return to his usual ways – aloof and unapproachable – but each day since they slept in the same bed, he continued to show new and surprising parts of his personality.

His sweet tooth was something Stiles hadn’t bet on: decadent chocolate cake before bed, gummy candies stashed away so Isaac couldn’t find them, and little sour sweets that were almost too much for even Stiles to handle. Not only did Derek snack, but he loafed in comfy sweaters in the loft while reading his books. Their nights were spent silently touching.

"Kaya nimo buhaton pero nganong wala nimo gibuhat" This is what the guilt is all about. I was confident in my decision, but this has been eating me away. I was always told of how smart and capable I was since I was young. "Hinumdumi, bright ka." So it was instilled in my brain that I am capable. I have always been capable and smart, according to my primary caregivers. But a little setback shifted those words to "kani kaya mani nimo, nganong wala man nimo gibuhat, sayang kaayo" as they pointed at a blank page of my test paper. It was written at the back, which I did not bother to check when I was 5 years old. It was my adhd, my inattentiveness, to be exact. And they beat me mentally and emotionally because of it. So, I learned to cope and become as careful as I can. And maybe it had been a good thing. But the dialogue was not. The inner dialogue eating at my self-esteem little by little, piece by piece, at every mistake, at every "failure." So this is what the guilt is all about.
