absolutely devastated to learn today that 123guestbook, staple of the early internet, is shutting down on July 1st (locking guestbooks on June 1st, unclear if they'll be deleted a month after that but presumably so)

If you have a 123guestbook embedded in your site, now is the time to start archiving it, if you want to keep those old guest posts! (please note that the Wayback Machine will almost certainly not preserve 123guestbooks on old archived sites, since they are externally hosted)

if anyone has a recommendation for another guestbook btw (or shoutbox I guess) I'm all ears, my criteria are basically custom colours, not shady af, and allows me to moderate it personally instead of some kind of automation. I'm also looking for a secondary one that allows nsfw in their TOS, which seems to be a big ask these days :/

Thank you! If you're not familiar at all with the site and want a really introductory crash course this post explains the basics of building elements on a site better than I could

Honestly I have not done anything fancy I really just slapped some elements on there and played around with the appearance settings until I liked it, even the grid background is something you can add within carrd. This page is just a text element (the header), buttons element, and some containers broken into columns so I could add the text and images next to each other. the only slightly weird thing is the "about" title with the little icons is actually an embedded HTML element which is only available with the pro plan features and I used it to add the font awesome icons (font awesome my beloved). There are lots of settings for adding borders, drop shadows, etc to different elements and stuff. My gallery page is just a gallery element I added a bunch of pics to as well. I would like to try doing more interesting stuff with carrd at some point but if you're fine with the structural elements being relatively basic I think there's a good amount of aesthetic customization you can do that's built in

Ended up F I N A L L Y cleaning up my old neocities site and it is in a place where i am. very happy to leave it. no more broken links and just about everything i want accessible. rip 123guestbook but its for the best. next mission: save the sticker book to my computer and put all that shit here somehow

I just found out that 123Guestbook is shutting down on July 1st of this year. Holly & Macy and Everyone Else has had a 123Guestbook page running for around two years now, and I've absolutely loved reading the messages people leave on the site. Even though I eventually set up a more thorough comment section, I kept the guestbook around because I just liked it a lot. The comment sections feel specific to each page of the comic, whereas the guestbook felt like it encompassed the website as a whole, the comic + the extra pages and treats. Rlly sad to see it go. I will likely not be replacing it.

I plan to archive my guestbook in some way (even if I just end up taking a bunch of screenshots lol), so that I can keep all those messages on my website. If you want to leave any last words on the HollyMacy guestbook, please feel free to do so while you can! The guestbook will become read-only on June 1st.

okay i'm about to add a guestbook to my neocities website, and i know that 123guestbook is the most popular used guestbook for this sort of thing, but i find it kinda sus that when you sign up for an account that they literally EMAIL YOU YOUR OWN PASSWORD. bruh. idk how to explain to you how easy it would be for somebody to hack my stupid guestbook account just by. going into my email and using the password they found because it was just written RIGHT THERE!!!
