The Louis cancellation. Asian leg was to start in about a week. About 15 hours ago, the promoter posted a bare bones announcement - tour cancelled across all of Asia, refunds will be issued. (There were rumors about this bouncing around twitter yesterday, which is its own problem.) No other info. in that initial announcement. NOTHING from LTHQ or Louis himself. Went about 12 hours before we heard anything. Then it was LTHQ with a post on his official website — we’re sorry, Louis really wanted to do this, and basically nothing else. Still nothing from Louis.
1) people are understandably concerned about Louis and those close to him. Sure he drinks and smokes, but he’s a professional when it comes to touring. Just like Niall. Louis broke his arm twice this past year, kept touring. Fulfilled a performance commitment three days after his mother died Not saying this is exceptional among performers, but just saying this really is unprecedented for Louis.
2) people are pissed at LTHQ. No matter what is going on with Louis, and pls let it be nothing awful, but regardless, the delay in LTHQ’s response is inexcusable. Disrespectful to fans and just pathetic. Their statement should’ve gone out at the same time as the promoter’s announcement. Even if they were ambushed by the announcement, unlikely since twitter knew, it shouldn’t have taken 12 hours to put out a short, basic PR blurb that contained zero substantive info. A high school intern could’ve written it in ten minutes. Not that we have a right to all details, esp with personal stuff, but the content was so basic there is zero excuse for the delay.
3) again, really hoping it’s nothing personal, but pics unveiling new tattoos came out a couple days ago. If and only if nothing bad happened personally between then and the cancellation announcement, it’s not ok he hasn’t posted. He will fully deserve criticism around it.
I’m so sorry. Please feel free to ignore this and not contaminate your blog! I’m going to go listen to Heaven. 🫡
Louis ranter here. Lord knows I don’t want to subject you to other Louies coming over here to argue. Please feel free to 💯 ignore me. Maybe this summary is better: unclear if Louis is ok. haven’t heard from him directly. Terrible communication by everyone involved. People are worried and pissed. Much more concise! 🥴
Please don’t block me for coming back! But I can’t not mention that Louis just tweeted. Don’t know how to paste it here. “Absolutely gutted we couldn’t make it out to the shows this month. I’ll be back! I’m sorry to anyone affected. Love you all!!” We’ll likely never know anything about what really happened. As Louis’ chest tattoo says, “it is what is.”
.
Heeey hahaha def not blocking you don't worry! I just put all your 3 messages in one so it's clearer 😊
Damn that is some mess! I understand why people are upset tbh. Especially because you didn't even get an explanation. Like I remember Shawn mendes canceling part of his tour and he posted about feeling anxious and overwhelmed and not being in a good headspace to tour and everyone understood. But with this... So strange!!!
Also the lack of announcement from him first is weird... Or at least to me but maybe it's because I experienced niall canceling his tour when covid hit and he was the one to announce it and apologise and everything. Like I know they all hire people to do these stuff for them but canceling a tour is a huge deal so I like when artists take 2 min out of their lifes to inform the fans themselves you know.
Now I really want to know what happened jsisksksksks like anyone has any guesses? 👀👀

Wed 2 June ‘21
Louis sent a message to a fan looking for a hello after a major surgery-- “Get well soon mate. Sending you loads of love x”- and added that he hopes ALL of us are doing alright; I never doubted it Louis! Niall got a little more specific with his really lovely message today- “HAPPY PRIDE MONTH, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. It’s your life, LOVE who you want to LOVE,” he tweeted! THANKS GUYS.
Liam though, Liam was all over today! He checked in on his way to play golf, on his way back from playing golf (with videographer Conor!), posted comments on discord, joined a new chat platform (Telegram; 5 minutes into Telegram and chill Liam was like OKAY it looks like we may need some moderators for this app lol YOU THINK?), he did a whole 25 min live, AND checked in even later to say he’d just had a shower and was about to play a new video game! New news of the day-- he is going to host a Veeps show showcasing new artists in July!! NEAT! His post about how his team forgot to turn off notifications on the phone they set it all up on for him on is really funny, YIKES; “this used to be an iphone now it’s just a bell” he joked, with video of the phone frantically chiming nonstop (“the power of you guys still blows my mind to this day”.) Also he said that he was very busy getting ready for June 15. Why, you ask, what is on June 15? UH? IDK?? He has so many things coming up? But that’s the NFT I think, which I KNOW a lot of people are mostly not that excited about but I will say that while I don’t care about the technology, I am excited to see Liam’s artwork he’s working on for it (which hopefully the purchaser will share with us), and Liam is truly so excited about the platform, he’s really trying to talk us into it. More on that in a sec...
But let’s get to the other parts of Liam’s live first. He has that new song coming, about which he said “it’s one that I’ve written the most on so far actually, as a single, I’m excited to say my own stuff for once a little”, love that. He’s still coughing but says he’s tested repeatedly and it isn’t COVID, and that he’s gone vegetarian recently, and he says the chat channels were inspired by seeing people using the veeps chat rooms even after the show ended, not wanting to leave. And he talks about 1D- about the notifs mishap he said “back in the band we used to wait for people we didn’t like to leave their notifications on and then we would like- oh make sure you follow this person on twitter! And then their phone would break for days- if someone did something that annoyed you.” HAHAHA where’s my masterpost of people who annoyed them 1D told us to follow, PLEASE? And also “it’s hard sometimes you’re watching people stories from afar that you used to know so well and that can be difficult… we’ve all felt this at different times me and the boys… it’s almost like missing a very dear friend a lot of the time but everyone’s so busy… I’d love to get us all in a room somewhere sometime” aww. But also he said he talked to Harry recently, “really a lovely call, he has a sixth sense for if I'm struggling or if one of us is in trouble, I spoke to him and it was a really lovely catch up. I have a lot of love for the man, he's really, really great"; well I wish Liam wasn’t stuggling but that’s lovely. And Louis too! "I spoke to Louis, I wanna say yesterday. We speak a lot, there's just a lot of laughing about random crap," he said, plus some Louis memories- “I can just hear his laugh in the back of my mind. We once broke into one of the stadiums in America and got chased by a woman… on one of those cop type things, a mall cop thing, and that was quite crazy. He also left me on my own while I was being arrested nearly by a French policemen that I had to push over… which that still scares me to this day. [laughing] That’s what friends are for! I helped him over the fence to get in somewhere, he left me with the policeman, who didn’t have a clue who I was and tried to arrest me even though I was just trying to go into my hotel.” UMM sorry I can’t hear anything past LIAM PUSHED OVER A COP?? Go ahead, make a list of ‘1D members most likely to fight a cop’ and if Liam isn’t DEAD LAST you’re just wrong and yet HERE WE ARE!! WHAT A DAY.
But alas rather than fighting cops now Liam is partnering with an entrepreneur (which I have had to type so many times in the last two days thanks to Liam that I guess I know how to spell it now they just keep SAYING it SO MUCH). Steve Bartlett said “the secret” is out, he recorded a podcast with Liam yesterday-- I’d call secret a bit strong, we had actually got that mate, but okay; he called Liam an entrepreneur and said “yesterday I recorded one of the most powerful, honest, REAL conversations on my podcast to date” and “if you love Liam you’ll love this.” I can absolutely guarantee you that is not true, I love Liam and already hate everything about this collab, but his wording does make me think we’ll get a bit of Liam’s trademark emotional spillage which I suppose I might appreciate despite this self help CEO guy being there too. Liam does have one thing to say that could sway me in this guy’s favor though- “he has the cutest dog ever” apparently! Anyway I may as well get used to him he’s suddenly everywhere-- Liam also patched him into his live to try yet again to convince us that NFTs are good by awkwardly relating it to “fans of boybands” by saying you know this could eliminate like fake tickets and such… Sure Steve sure but anyway he also says of Liam, “the guy you see on camera is the exact same guy off camera”.
Harry and Olivia were seen together in London (well, a grainy ass video of their backs was seen anyway), walking, with some people who look to be her parents and Harry’s PA (so romantic! Not at all work related!) I was initially skeptical of the claim that it was her parents since this fandom is obsessed with saying everyone is so and so’s parents (we’ll NEVER top the time the fandom was sure Harry was seen having lunch with Eleanor’s father though) but it actually seems like maybe it was. More for Harry to add to his collection, that man truly loves an extended family! I mean the whole thing is sketchy as hell, from the assurance that that’s DEFINITELY actually Olivia in the grainy video, FOR SURE, to the confirmation that that’s her mom with them which came when a blank insta page produced a random old picture of her mom in the same skirt, but like is it them, sure I imagine so, and people making sure we get the story anytime they’re together isn’t exactly new. In other news, Dave Meyers, director of the Adore You music video, says he originally pitched the Eroda story idea (“I have this idea, of you love- liking a fish”) to Katy Perry and the Black Eyed Peas, ASJKJASKL CAN YOU IMAGINE?

Comedian Louis C.K. returned to the stage in New York for the first time in ten months on Sunday night.
According to editors at The Wrap, the disgraced comic appeared onstage at the Comedy Cellar, a comedy club he had previously frequented, after disappearing from the spotlight following his admission last November that he had masturbated in front of several women following an expose in the New York Times.
The 50-year-old comic, who took to the stage at 11p.m. was reportedly warmly welcomed by the audience, but during his 15-minute set, he did not address or mention the sexual misconduct scandal.

2017 the Year of #MeToo: A scoop, a tweet, and then a reckoning
Comedy Cellar owner Noam Dworman told editors at The Wrap the show, which was not announced, was “typical Louis C.K. stuff” with jokes about racism, waitresses tips and parades.

“It was very ordinary for him,” he told the publication, describing the audience response as “sustained applause… It was a good reception. He went through an everyday list of jokes.”
When asked how he felt about C.K’s unexpected appearance, Dworman explained: “This has been very hard for us. We know that it is not right that he shouldn’t be able to perform again, but there is no clear time to decide how long is appropriate. He showed up and now we’re thrown into it and we hope it turns out OK.”

Five women spoke to the New York Times, including comediennes Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, who accused the Louie star of masturbating in front of them in his hotel room in 2002.
The father of two issued a statement in response to the sexual misconduct admitting it was true and apologising for his behaviour.
“There is nothing about this that I forgive myself for,” he said in his statement. “And I have to reconcile it with who I am. Which is nothing compared to the task I left them with.”
In the wake of the accusations, C.K. lost his production deal with FX. In addition, entertainment company The Orchard cancelled the release of his film I Love You, Daddy. He also lost deals with Universal, Netflix, and HBO.

Ramblings: Thornton Stays In San Jose, Neal Goes To Calgary, O’Reilly In Buffalo – July 3
It was always a near-certainty that Joe Thornton would return to the Sharks on a similar deal as last year and he signed on of those Monday afternoon. It’s just a one-year deal with a $5-million cap hit.
Thornton, now 39 years old, is coming off significant knee problems in each of the last two years. You hate to say this might be it, but it’s a wonder how many years he has left given all these issues.
It’ll be curious to see Thornton’s usage. After the acquisition of Evander Kane, the trio of Kane, Joe Pavelski, and Joonas Donskoi was downright dominant in limited ice time together. The duo of Tomas Hertl and Logan Couture seem like a lock to stay together, so will Thornton be used in a lesser role at five-on-five? Or will he be right back to the top line, pushing Donskoi down the lineup? Can Thornton play over 18 minutes a night at this point? Questions without answers just yet.
*
James Neal signed a five-year deal with the Flames. You can read Dobber’s analysis here.
All I’ll say about this for now is that Calgary did a good job bolstering their forward depth (even if it was at the expense of an elite defenceman) but this could be a headache for lineup combinations all year. It seemed like Elias Lindholm was the guy to slot with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan, and then quotes came out that Matthew Tkachuk might play the right side. Now, throw Neal into the mix. Outside of Monahan/Gaudreau on the top line, and Mikael Backlund centering the second line, I’m not sure if any particular combination is going to be reliable.
*
Well, that was quite the Free Agent Frenzy weekend.
We are still waiting for some significant dominoes to fall. The big name is Erik Karlsson but there is still the possibility of a top winger from the Wild being moved, maybe an offer sheet to someone like Mark Stone (a guy can dream), and there are still some significant free agents that need deals like Calvin de Haan and Rick Nash, though the latter may not even return.
If you missed anything:
Dobber on the John Tavares signing.
Ian on the Ryan O’Reilly trade.
Dobber reviewed July 1st team by team.
Impacts of all major signings, player by player, can be found here.
Rest assured that we will have other signings and trades as they occur because the NHL GMs are not done yet.
One player I wanted to focus on right now is O’Reilly. Ian does a good job of digging into players impacted but I wanted to expand on one thing he noted about why this helps O’Reilly: better line mates.
Since O’Reilly became a top-line player for Colorado back in 2011-12, he has posted six straight 82-game seasons of at least 55 points. He is one of just 13 players with six straight 55-point seasons, the others are: Patrick Kane, Alex Ovechkin, Jamie Benn, Sidney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf, Claude Giroux, Phil Kessel, Evgeni Malkin, Joe Pavelski, Tyler Seguin, John Tavares, and Blake Wheeler. Basically, O’Reilly has been among the consistently elite in fantasy production for several years, though without the upside.
Over the last three years, Buffalo has been the lowest-scoring team in the NHL at five-on-five, sitting at 1.84 goals per 60 minutes. The next-closest is New Jersey at 1.95. The difference between Buffalo and St. Louis in that span is about 0.41 goals per 60 minutes. Over three years, that works out to be about one fewer five-on-five goal every three games for Buffalo. Because of time difference spent at five-on-five, in reality it worked out to about 77 fewer goals. It’s a lot, and St. Louis wasn’t even a high-scoring team in that span, sitting near the middle of the league.
I know some may be thinking that it was the Buffalo power play that was their source of scoring, but even with the PP time included, the Sabres still have the second-lowest total goals scored per 60 minutes at 2.35. St. Louis, for comparison, was at 2.68. That difference works out, again, to a goal roughly every three games.
There’s also a pretty big divide within the teams themselves. The 2017-18 Blues didn’t score a lot at five-on-five, coming in 25th in the league in goals for per 60 minutes at 2.25. But within that team that scored 2.25 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five, Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko were both over 3.10, while Alex Steen was at 2.50. This team also added David Perron. And don’t forget about Robby Fabbri as he was deemed completely healthy and is cleared for training camp. His career points/60 minutes at five-on-five is 1.82, a number higher than every Sabres forward last year (min. 50 games played) not named Jack Eichel.
Once Evander Kane was traded, O’Reilly played a lot of minutes with guys like Scott Wilson and Benoit Pouliot. In fact, he did before that, seeing as his most-common wingers outside of Kane were: Kyle Okposo, Sam Reinhart, Scott Wilson, Benoit Pouliot, and Zemgus Girgensons. Assuming O’Reilly stays in the top-6, he’s looking at playing with Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, Robby Fabbri, David Perron, or Alex Steen. They also have Jordan Kyrou and Klim Kostin knocking on the door. It’s night and day.
O’Reilly’s fantasy value will come down to role, usage, and power-play time.
Let’s start with usage.
Last year, Brayden Schenn led Blues forwards in TOI per game at 19:44. Schwartz and Tarasenko each cracked 19 minutes. Ryan O’Reilly has played less than 19:44 once in the last five seasons, and it was 19:43 in 2014-15 with the Avs. He played at least 20:49 in three straight years with Buffalo. He averaged over a minute and a half more per game during his Buffalo tenure than the most-used forward last year. And keep in mind that the Blues suffered injuries last year which kept their depth from being effective offensively; their top line playing so much was a factor of chasing a playoff berth while not having a bottom-6 that could contribute offensively. They likely don’t play as much if they’re A) way out of the playoff race or B) healthy and well inside the playoff line.
This is all to say there may be a minute or so coming off O’Reilly’s TOI per game. We could see both he and Schenn around 19 minutes, Tyler Bozak around 15, and the rest is mop-up duty from the fourth line. O’Reilly may improve the quality of his line mates, but the quantity of ice time will decline.
There’s also the question of usage. This tweet was pointed out by Ian in his review of the trade:
Armstrong said that in a perfect world, the #stlblues could get to Christmas and you could have Robert Thomas centering a line with maybe Tarasenko on the right and O'Reilly on the left. Then you have Bozak with Steen & Perron with Schenn/Schwartz. Wrap your head around those.
— Lou Korac (@lkorac10) July 2, 2018
That’s… those are quite imposing lines.
Let’s get the caveats out of the way. As I write this, it’s July 2nd. The team as it is may not even be the team the goes into the season, let alone the composition by Christmas. Maybe Thomas isn’t in the NHL this year (though I think he is, and contributes). This is also what the GM is envisioning in early July; what the coach actually uses in December is another matter.
It’s hard not to imagine O’Reilly being used in a defensive role; top-line assignments when the team has last change as well as a bevy of d-zone draws given his faceoff prowess. My concern is that O’Reilly doesn’t skate with Tarasenko or Schwartz, but rather Steen, Jaskin, or Perron and is used to eat all the tough minutes while allowing Schenn’s line to be a go-between and Bozak’s trio is given the sheltered minutes. That last statement is almost assured.
Not that defensive assignments are anything new to O’Reilly, he’s built a career off them. Just that there is a difference between playing tweener minutes with Tarasenko or playing tough minutes with Perron.
Then there’s the power play. Last year, the trio of Schenn-Schwartz-Tarasenko all managed over three minutes on the PP per game. Alex Steen was a shade under three minutes, Paul Stastny was at 2:44, and the next-highest was Patrik Berglund at 1:43. In other words, there was a clear delineation between a heavily-used top unit, and everyone else.
Schenn, Schwartz, and Tarasenko aren’t going anywhere, so O’Reilly would need to replace Alex Steen. It wouldn’t be a huge leap given their roles on the PP last year. From Hockeyviz.com, we can see Steen had two roles in 2017-18: acting basically as a defenceman or in a net-front position:
O’Reilly didn’t have the exact same role in Buffalo, but it was close. The team had Rasmus Ristolainen manning the blue line, but O’Reilly spent a lot of time around the net:
Simply slotting O’Reilly into Steen’s spot makes a lot of sense here. They can still use Steen as a quarterback for the second PP unit that will get 30 seconds or so every PP, which can help keep his minutes down as he goes into his age-34 season.
So here’s the summary after reviewing the team compositions and contexts:
The top players for the Blues all played around 14:30 per game at five-on-five last year. That’s about the same amount of ice that O’Reilly received per game in Buffalo.
The top players for the Blues played at or more than three minutes per game on the power play. O’Reilly clocked in a little over 3:30.
If O’Reilly does lose ice tme, it might be about 20 or so seconds on the power play, and maybe 30 or so seconds at five-on-five. Assuming constant goals-for rates between Buffalo and St. Louis, it would mean a decline of about two or three power-play points and maybe 1-2 five-on-five points. A decline in total ice time of a minute per game may mean four or five fewer points, given constant goals-for rates.
Of course, there won’t be constant goals-for rates. Unless something catastrophic happens, on averages alone, as stated above, O’Reilly will be going to a team that should score at least an extra goal every three games. If he figures in on every four extra goals, that would actually add a couple points to his total from last year.
Finally, there’s the very real possibility that the Blues are among the top offensive teams next year. This team has scoring and playmaking all over the roster with the additions they made, the prospects on their way, and a healthy Robby Fabbri.
O’Reilly has never been much of a roto contributor. Outside of leagues that count faceoff wins, there isn’t much to offer. That means few PIMs, hits, or blocked shots. He has started shooting more in recent seasons and that’s not an aberration; his individual shot attempt rate at five-on-five has climbed two straight years. His value lies in either points-only leagues or leagues that count faceoff wins. But things are looking very bright indeed. He should be able to at least replicate his 2017-18 season provided he plays 80 games, and has a realistic chance of cracking 70 points for the first time in his career.

Story Continued Below
MOORE SUPPORT — “Trump endorses Roy Moore as Republicans come around on working with him,” by POLITICO’s Daniel Strauss and Louis Nelson: “President Donald Trump moved Monday to quash any lingering doubts about his support for Roy Moore, as Washington Republicans increasingly come to terms with the idea of the controversial former Alabama Supreme Court judge joining the Senate. Early Monday morning, Trump tweeted that ‘we need Republican Roy Moore to win’ in order to push through the president’s agenda. Later, Trump called the Senate candidate directly to endorse his campaign, principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah said, and he has a rally planned later this week just over the state line in Pensacola, Florida. Some Alabamians have been receiving robocalls urging them to travel to the neighboring state for the rally. … Hanna Ford, Moore’s deputy campaign manager, said Trump called the former judge ‘a fighter’ during their call Monday. Brett Doster, a Moore adviser, said the president also stressed ‘the importance of winning next Tuesday.’” Full story.
— “Woman shares new evidence of relationship with Roy Moore when she was 17,” by The Washington Post’s Stephanie McCrummen: “…’Happy graduation Debbie,’ it read in slanted cursive handwriting. ‘I wanted to give you this card myself. I know that you’ll be a success in anything you do. Roy.’” Full story.
‘RESIGNED’ — “NRSC staffers resign after digital break-in,” by Campaign Pro’s Kevin Robillard: “Two fundraising staffers for the National Republican Senatorial Committee who broke into the computer servers of the House GOP campaign arm resigned late last week, GOP sources told POLITICO. The staffers, Laura Kleffner and Krista Madaio, had previously worked at the National Republican Congressional Committee. Three Republican sources told POLITICO last week NRSC aides used their old NRCC passwords to collect information on more than 200,000 donors. The digital break-in infuriated NRCC officials when they became aware of it in October.” Full story.
ICYMI — LAST WEEK — “Senate GOP campaign arm stole donor data from House Republicans,” by Campaign Pro’s Robillard and Elena Schneider. Full story.
‘IT’S A RECKONING’ — “A congressman’s accuser: Blackballed and babysitting for cash,” by POLITICO’s Rachael Bade: “North Carolina native Lauren Greene aspired to a career in politics when she arrived on Capitol Hill as an intern in 2009. She spent the next five years climbing the Capitol Hill ladder, ultimately becoming a communications director for a congressman in 2014. But Greene’s budding career imploded, she said, the minute she accused Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) of sexually harassing her. Since the summer of 2014, when she says Farenthold fired her for raising concerns about a hostile work environment, Greene has been unable to land a full-time job. She’s making $15 an hour working temporary gigs for a homebuilder. She babysits on the side to earn extra cash. Her family has had to support her financially. And Greene, now 30, has left D.C., with no illusions that she will ever work in politics again.” Full story.
IT’S ON — “Former CFPB head and Trump target Richard Cordray to run for Ohio governor as Democrat,” by the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Jessie Balmert: “Cordray, 58, will announce his candidacy for governor Tuesday morning at Lilly’s Kitchen Table in his hometown of Grove City, an advisor said. After that, he will tour the state to meet with Democratic activists, leaders and voters. … Cordray, a former Jeopardy champion, should enter the race with considerable support from Democratic fundraisers nationwide. Mary Ellen Withrow, former U.S. treasurer under President Bill Clinton, was listed as Cordray’s campaign treasurer in paperwork filed Monday. … Last week, GOP Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine named Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted as his running mate. The powerful Republican duo was hoping to clear the primary field, which includes Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor and U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci.” Full story.
ON THE HILL — “House conservatives almost topple tax vote,” by POLITICO’s Bernie Becker, Sarah Ferris and Colin Wilhelm: “House conservatives threatened to derail a key tax vote on Monday in an attempt to win more influence over the GOP’s spending strategy, just four days before the deadline to fund the government.” Full story.
— Organizing for Action out with digital ads against senators’ tax vote: Organizing for Action is attacking nine senators for their vote on the tax bill last week. The ads target Sens. Susan Collins, Ted Cruz, Joni Ernst, Jeff Flake, Cory Gardner, Dean Heller, John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman and Marco Rubio.
— Not One Penny releases internal polling on tax reform: Not One Penny, a progressive group, popped internal polling that found the GOP’s tax bill to be unpopular in six battleground House seats. The polling also tests popularity for the Republican incumbents, all of whom are losing in a race against a generic Democrat. Check out polling memos from the following districts: IA-01, CO-06, VA-10, ME-02, NY-24 and CA-25.

FIRST IN SCORE — Everytown targets 5 House members on concealed carry: Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund is out with radio, digital and newspaper ads in five House districts, urging members to not support concealed carry reciprocity (H.R. 38 (115)). The ads will go after three Republicans — Mike Coffman (CO-06), Fred Upton (MI-06) and Leonard Lance (NJ-07) — and two Democrats, Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09) and Kurt Schrader (OR-05). The ads are part of a $300,000 ad push as Congress considers the measure.
FIRST IN SCORE — DEPT. OF BIO VIDEOS — Dean Phillips, running in MN-03, pops new video: Democrat Dean Phillips’ campaign is out with a new bio video that shows him driving a truck across the district. “The great intention of my campaign — and my personal mandate — is to get people to talk again, and the truck is simply a vehicle to do so. It’s a conversation starter,” Phillips said. The ad hits on “money in politics” as the “root of all the gridlock in Washington.” Check out the video here.
MORE FROM THE HILL — “Ryan weighed stripping Frelinghuysen of chairmanship,” via POLITICO’s Rachael Bade and John Bresnahan: “Speaker Paul Ryan and his leadership team recently discussed replacing House Appropriations Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen after he bucked the party and voted against the GOP tax bill, multiple sources told POLITICO. …Chairmen are expected to support GOP leaders on tough votes or major pieces of legislation. And Frelinghuysen, who hails from a more moderate-minded swing district, was not given a green light to vote against the tax bill.” Full story.
PRIMARY WATCH — “Menendez gets a potential primary challenger,” by POLITICO New Jersey’s Matt Friedman: “An attorney who worked on the Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama presidential campaigns is considering a Democratic primary challenge to Sen. Bob Menendez. Michael Starr Hopkins, in an op-ed piece for the Washington publication ‘The Hill,’ wrote that New Jerseyans deserve ‘the chance to vote for someone who hasn’t been tainted by the culture of corruption in Trenton and Washington, someone who doesn’t owe any favors to the political establishment or powerful interests.’” Full story.
NOT ROMNEY — “Trump says he wants Hatch to seek 8th Senate term,” by POLITICO’s Louis Nelson: “President Donald Trump said today that he is urging Sen. Orrin Hatch to seek reelection for an eighth six-year term. Trump, visiting a Salt Lake City food bank operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was asked if he was encouraging Hatch (R-Utah) to run for reelection, to which he replied ‘yes.’” Full story.
FROM THE DGA — “Democrats eye major gains in depleted governors’ ranks in 2018 ‘awakening,’” by CNN’s Eric Bradner: “Washington Gov. Jay Inslee knows about political wave elections: He was wiped out by a Republican wave as a three-term House member in 1994. Now, citing President Donald Trump’s unpopularity, he’s confidently predicting an even bigger Democratic landslide in the 2018 midterm elections. Inslee projected that Democrats would reverse the 2010 and 2014 losses that left them with just 15 governor’s offices.” Full story.
DIGITAL WAR — “Giffords buys ads against 8 Republicans on concealed carry,” by POLITICO’s Edward-Isaac Dovere: “Gabby Giffords is going up on the air Monday with a six-figure ad buy against Reps. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.) and Jason Lewis (R-Minn.) from her gun safety group. The ads come ahead of this week’s expected House vote on Concealed Carry Reciprocity, which, if enacted, would be a massive opening of gun laws across the country, forcing all states to accept gun licenses issued in any state. The result could lead to gun carrying laws effectively being set everywhere at the lowest level any state would allow. … Digital ads will also go out against Reps. Steve Knight (R-Calif.), Ed Royce (R-Calif.), Mimi Walters (R-Calif.), Mike Coffman (R-Colo.), Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) and Barbara Comstock (R-Va.).” Full story.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “This is Armageddon.” — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on the GOP tax bill, Fox News reported.

'These stories are true,' says comedian Louis CK
US comedian Louis C.K. on Friday admitted to sexual misconduct allegations made against him by several women, and television and film companies moved quickly to sever ties.
"These stories are true," C.K. said in a statement.
Five women detailed incidents regarding the Emmy-winning comedian in a New York Times report published on Thursday, including three women who said he had masturbated in front of them. The allegations dated back 15 years.
C.K. released his statement after his upcoming film "I Love You Daddy" was scrapped for release on Friday, and Netflix Inc cancelled a planned special with the comedian because of the allegations.
Based on Louis CK's behavior, we are not making his second stand up special.

Television network FX, a unit of 21st Century Fox, also severed its ties with C.K, and Time Warner's  TBS network said it was suspending production on an upcoming animated comedy "The Cops," which C.K. co-created and was due to star in.
"He will no longer serve as executive producer or receive compensation on any of the four shows we were producing with him – 'Better Things,' 'Baskets,' 'One Mississippi' and 'The Cops'," FX Networks and FX productions said on Friday in an emailed statement.
The comedian's publicist, Lewis Kay, announced on Twitter that "as of today, I no longer represent Louis C.K."
C.K., 50, said in his statement that he has "been remorseful for my actions. And I've tried to learn from them. And run from them. Now I’m aware of the extent of the impact of my actions. I learned yesterday the extent to which I left these women who admired me feeling bad about themselves " his statement added.
He is the latest celebrity in the entertainment business to be accused of sexual misconduct by people coming forward in the wake of allegations against movie producer Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey.
C.K., who is best known for his TV comedy series "Louie," added that "I will now step back and take a long time to listen." He did not make clear how long he would be stepping back for.
Two of the women in the New York Times article, comedians Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, said C.K. had invited them to his hotel room after a comedy festival in Aspen, Colorado, in 2002 and then masturbated in front of them.
"The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly," C.K. said, adding that he thought it was ok to show his genitals to women if he asked them first.
"You asked but we never said yes," Goodman and Wolov tweeted on Friday after his apology.
Netflix said earlier that it would not produce a planned second stand-up special with him.
Film distributor The Orchard said it would not be moving forward with the release next week of "I Love You, Daddy." The movie was written and directed by C.K. and he also appears in the film as the father of a 17-year-old girl who has a romance with a 68-year-old filmmaker.
HBO said on Thursday that C.K.'s past projects with the network, including 2006's "Lucky Louie" series, would be removed from its on-demand services and that the comedian would no longer participate in its Nov. 18 televised "Night of Too Many Stars" show.

Five women detailed incidents regarding the Emmy-winning comedian in a New York Times report published on Thursday, including three women who said he had masturbated in front of them. The allegations dated back 15 years.
C.K. released his statement after his upcoming film “I Love You Daddy” was scrapped for release on Friday, and Netflix Inc <NFLX.O> canceled a planned special with the comedian because of the allegations.
Television network FX, a unit of 21st Century Fox <FOXA.O>, also severed its ties with C.K, and Time Warner’s <TXW.N> TBS network said it was suspending production on an upcoming animated comedy “The Cops,” which C.K. co-created and was due to star in.
“He will no longer serve as executive producer or receive compensation on any of the four shows we were producing with him – ‘Better Things,’ ‘Baskets,’ ‘One Mississippi’ and ‘The Cops’,” FX Networks and FX productions said on Friday in an emailed statement.
The comedian’s publicist, Lewis Kay, announced on Twitter that “as of today, I no longer represent Louis C.K.”
C.K., 50, said in his statement that he has “been remorseful of my actions. And I’ve tried to learn from them. And run from them. Now I’m aware of the extent of the impact of my actions. I learned yesterday the extent to which I left these women who admired me feeling badly about themselves ” his statement added.
He is the latest celebrity in the entertainment business to be accused of sexual misconduct by people coming forward in the wake of allegations against movie producer Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey.
C.K., who is best known for his TV comedy series “Louie,” added that “I will now step back and take a long time to listen.” He did not make clear how long he would be stepping back for.
Two of the women in the New York Times article, comedians Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, said C.K. had invited them to his hotel room after a comedy festival in Aspen, Colorado, in 2002 and then masturbated in front of them.
“The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly,” C.K. said, adding that he thought it was ok to show his genitals to women if he asked them first.
“You asked but we never said yes,” Goodman and Wolov tweeted on Friday after his apology.
Netflix said earlier that it would not produce a planned second stand-up special with him.
Film distributor The Orchard said it would not be moving forward with the release next week of “I Love You, Daddy.” The movie was written and directed by C.K. and he also appears in the film as the father of a 17-year-old girl who has a romance with a 68-year-old filmmaker.
HBO said on Thursday that C.K.’s past projects with the network, including 2006’s “Lucky Louie” series, would be removed from its on-demand services and that the comedian would no longer participate in its Nov. 18 televised “Night of Too Many Stars” show.
