1. Are you named after anyone?

My dad was obsessed with supermodel Helena Christiansen and that's how I got my name. He likes to tell people that it was a Helen of Troy thing, though.

2. When was the last time you cried?

About two weeks ago, I think. I was feeling pretty bad about a tumblr situation, and actually burst into tears after it had died down a bit. It was a lot.

3. Do you have kids?

Nope. I am, first and foremost, a child hater.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Constantly.

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

I did gymnastics as a kid, but was advised by my doctor to stop because I have weak ankles and some hypermobility.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Their face? I don't really zone in on a specific thing.

7. What’s your eye colour?

Green, but I have the genetic mutation sectoral heterochromia, so part of my left eye is hazel/brown.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings, but I prefer a bittersweet ending if I'm honest.

9. Any special talents?

I can cluck like a chicken.

10. Where were you born?

Denmark.

11. What are your hobbies?

Writing, doing puzzles, reading, making art, and calligraphy.

12. Do you have pets?

Unfortunately not, but I'll get a dog when it's financially viable for me.

13. How tall are you?

I'm a tiny little thing at 159 cm or 5'2.5 (and yes, the .5 is important)

14. Favourite subject in school?

English and social studies.

15. Dream job?

Full-time author. It's been my dream since I was eight years old, so you could say I picked a dream and just ran with it.

1. Are you named after anyone? No... my Mom liked the name. (I hate it btw, and have taken on another in day-to-day life.)

2. When was the last time you cried? The other day, watching "For all mankind" (which is better than I had thought it would be?!)

3. Do you have kids? A daughter.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? MEEEEEE???? ^^

5. What sports do you play/have played? I used to ride. Stopped when I got pregnant.

6. What's the first thing you notice about people? Whether they hold eye-contact, maybe?

7. What's your eye color? Dark brown.

8. Scary movies or happy endings? Depends. I don't like torture movies, but I do not like overly saccharine stuff either. Aliens as a prime example for both?! :)

9. Any special talents? Errr.... I used to have a lyrical soprano... wanted to be an opera singer once upon a time.

10. Where were you born? Skipping, sorry.

11. What are your hobbies? Reading, video games, music, vampires. I also read a lot.

For your entertainment today, let's poke Lewis and see how long he'll last. In case you missed them, see the previous interviews for Fynn, Antonio, and Paris.

Lewis puts up a fight until they stuff him into the chair, and then he quiets down, glaring hot enough to roast a potato. Antonio claps his hands together and draws out his dratted notebook. Grateful it's not him being interviewed this time, Fynn leans against the wall with Paris and Velia. Are you named after anyone? Lewis sighs. "If I don't answer, will you all go away eventually?" "Won't you please answer?" Antonio wheedles, looking unfortunately convincing with his large brown eyes. "It'll be over faster, that way, and I really do want to hear your answers." "I'm named after my father," Lewis grumbles. "He was Lewis too." When was the last time you cried? "I never cry," Lewis say, which is probably a lie, but Fynn doesn't know enough to contest it, and from the shifting of the others around him, they don't either. Do you have kids? "When and If I do," Lewis says calmly. "They'll hunt you for sport, Antonio West." "Not if they know and love me," Antonio fires back, and Fynn doesn't think he's imagining the slightly flustered look on Lewis's face. Do you use sarcasm? "This is a great question," Lewis says with a hideous smile. What's the first thing you notice about people? "How much they're going to piss me off," Lewis says promptly, shooting a look over his shoulder at Fynn, Paris, and Velia. "Congrats, Fynn and Paris, you two didn't ring any alarm bells when I first met you. Of course, I take that back now." Velia moved over to high five Antonio. What's your eye color? "Look for yourself," Lewis says in his usual bold way. Fynn rolls his eyes as Antonio leans in and both of them lose a moment or two. To his left, Paris bends down to whisper in Velia's ear, and she laughs quietly. "Brown," Antonio announces. Scary or happy endings? "Just endings," Lewis says pointedly. Any special talents? "We get to answer this one for him, right?" Paris speaks up suddenly. "Because he'll announce he's too busy and isn't good at a thing?" He waits while Antonio nods at him, and then says, "Murder." Lewis twists around in his seat incredulously. "Braining that man with the shovel, ah, yes," Antonio says, and scribbles. "Also, facial expressions," Velia says with only a tad of envy. "He's king of conveying emotion without words." The look on Lewis's face could only be described as furious rage. Bearing in mind both of his talents, Fynn decides keeping quiet is the best course of action. Where were you born? Lewis is quiet this time. "Somewhere in the city," he eventually says. "In the last few breaths my mother inhaled." "Calm down, Mr. Theatrics," Velia says. "You're not the only one who's lost a mother." "Yeah," Antonio adds. What are your hobbies? "Restraining from murder," Lewis says, a hint of humor in his voice. About time, Fynn figures. Have you any pets? "What," Lewis explodes, "Kind of ridiculous quiz is this? You know the answer already, you dimwitted idiot!" "Thank goodness the answer is no," Antonio says delicately, writing that down. "You'd just kill it anyways." What sports do you play/have played? Once Lewis calms down, he says, "I played ball in the street as a kid. I wasn't half bad." How tall are you? Paris and Fynn burst out laughing. Even Antonio chuckles a moment. "These questions were asked to everyone," he says quickly, ignoring both Lewis's death glare and Velia's blank and quiet irritation. "And hey, being tall isn't everything." "Easy for you to say," Velia mutters. "I refuse to answer," Lewis says, and then yelps, "Don't you dare get out that measuring tape, Fynn --" After a furious wrestling match, Fynn straightens up and proclaims, "Five foot, five inches." Favorite subject in school? "Once I learned to read, the rest was all redundant," Lewis answers. "I can teach myself anything I need to know in the future. School didn't last long. Dream job? Yes.

Probably earlier today. I cry a lot. (Not in an unstable way. In an “okay, we’re having emotions that are leaking down our face again, next we’ll fold laundry” way.)

Yes. For which I am deeply grateful.

4. What sports do you/have you played?

As part of an actual team? Kickball. I’m more of a workout person than a sports person, though. But I guess Pilates isn’t considered a sport.

i tend to look at the middle of the face, so nose comes first and then eyes. i think that's why i love unique noses so much

the last heavy cry was when i watched the lone star finale for the first time a few months ago. since then, welling up at various things like buck.

1. are you named after anyone? i think i was named after one of my mom’s dear friends from childhood

1. Are you named after anyone?

Not anyone in particular; Mom's dad set out the names for the children of his sons but not his daughters. So Mom gave me a name that incorporates the concepts bright and strong. I sometimes like to think I was named after a laundry detergent. 🤣

2. When was the last time you cried?

I can't remember exactly… I never used to cry, not at stories or movies, unless they involved dogs dying (because that was my first exposure to grief, when my little furry boy died on me during my teen years). After more family members passed away though, I felt my core shift and now know what it is like to be moved to tears by a more human-centric grief and loss (I think I wasn't allowing myself to feel that before, as part of that armor you put on when out in the world as an adult).

And ever since I learnt my lessons I've cried a lot more often, sharing heartfelt moments with characters on the page or on the screen because I'm less afraid of showing emotion (as in, I no longer think of it as some kind of weakness). I think the last time I cried may have been watching Last Twilight? When I watched tough guy Mhok shedding his hard protective shell to love Day unconditionally, with the motivations behind his acts of love going mostly unnoticed and unseen by the object of his affections – e.g., the sunflower just before August turns up late, setting up Day's surprise birthday party and basically giving him away to others when you know his heart is telling him to keep Day for himself. 😢 (I've not watched Ep.7 yet, so I don't know if the meaning of any of this will change moving forward, or if there are more tears in store though.) And yes, I think the last tear I shed was when Mhok grabbed Day to kiss him at the end of Ep.6, to prove that he was loving him truly for his own sake, not plying him with secondhand emotion out of pity as Day had been led to expect from the world.

I may write more about Last Twilight in the future… It's easy to think of romantic love as a gift to be received, but Mhok really does exemplify that the human nature of love is rather more tied to wanting to give of oneself, and (for romantic love at least) that experience only achieves its fullest completion when it is met with the recipient giving you their love in return (or crushing your heart with rejection or indifference instead). And I do see the parallels between love rejected and grief; "grief is just love with no place to go" rings so very true.

3. Do you have kids?

No I don't, and it is maybe the one regret in life I will allow myself. "No regrets" is a great motto to live by, but if I could do things over again I might choose to have kids (whether my own biological kids or my own adopted ones; I'm a little too far gone and set in my ways to consider this now though). Never wanted kids before (noisy, troublesome, a dampener holding you back I told my younger self) – but when my nephew came along it was like somebody flicked a switch and I realized it was OK to feel that kind of unconditional love for another human being, for no other reason than the privilege of loving them. And I think being a parent (unlike a romantic partner) allows you to love truly unconditionally, without expecting anything in return.

4. What sports do you play/have you played?

Used to like playing soccer/basketball/badminton as a kid, but only unseriously and very badly. Nowadays I swim a lot and the gym is my second home (but I'm not at all some bulked-up gorilla; I don't have the genetics nor the inclination to abuse my body with steroids, which is the only way to look like the bodybuilders and fitness models IMO). But exercise does wonders for your mental health in addition to your physical fitness; it's been my refuge whenever things got horrifyingly stressful in life by providing an outlet for stress, plus endorphins to make you feel better. It just doesn't feel like it would be any good when you're going through it, but you can sense it after. Which is also part of why it's so hard to get yourself up and exercising when you're down; the hardest part is overcoming the inertia that is doubly weighted whenever life is stressing you out. I always have to remind myself that the more I don't want to go to the gym, the more it is I probably need to go.

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Sarcasm? What, ✨MOI✨? (Yes I'm being sarcastic here. I can be a bit too barbed with people I know, so I've learnt to pare it back, but my propensity for sarcasm has done me no favors in the workplace. It's also why I understand people putting up hard-shell defenses – shoutout to Pran in Bad Buddy and Mhok in Last Twilight.)

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

I think their general demeanour and what their overall body language is conveying.

7. What’s your eye color?

Darkest, darkest brown; so dark it looks black in all but the brightest light. You can't see where my pupils end and my irises begin.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings all the way. Don't like horror movies and I won't pay to watch them.

9. Any talents?

I have a number of interests, but whether or not I have any talent in them is for others to judge because – even though I'm proud of some of the things I've done – my ever-critical perfectionist's eye can never fail to see flaws and things I could've done better. Everything is always falling short in some way. So my interests are: languages and linguistics (I can handle a few languages, but only a couple have acceptable fluency while the rest are still in pretty rough shape, IMO). Love to write (in English only, more focused on fact than fiction, but even then the inspiration doesn't always flow). I have an ear (but not an abiding love) for music, so I will often be singing if I'm alone and need more than silence around me. I'm interested in biological sciences (wanted to be a palaentologist as a little boy; isn’t that every kid's dream at some point?) – animals, plants, and nature fascinate me. I used to like dabbling in visual arts, but that's been deadened a bit by having to work with some of that in my job (maybe that's why the visual aspects of BL will always fascinate me though). And I think I do have a knack for research, looking things up and putting facts together so that they can convey some kind of message or bigger truth.

10. Where were you born?

In the delivery room of a maternity ward. My roots are in Asia though, if that's what this question is getting at. 😆

11. What are your hobbies?

Scrolling through Tumblr takes up way too much of my time, but yes that is one of my hobbies. I watch BLs now and then, and from that I go on to do the odd write-up about aspects that interest me (especially culture, linguistics and BL visuals). Another current obsession is baking up fruitcake variations (part of the culinary landscape of the season) and this will continue as a hobby until I've baked it out of my system. I love to watch cooking shows, but I do this more to pick up tips on how to make my meals quicker, easier and tasty enough for me (I don't love cooking, but I cook a lot, to get around dietary intolerances more than anything else). Also – gym and swimming a few times a week.

12. Do you have any pets?

None at the moment. We had dogs growing up and I am an avowed dog lover. But when you're a working adult it wouldn't be fair to leave a dog alone for most of the day while you're out at the office, so I never got one after I began working. Plus dogs don't last long (15 years is already geriatric for a pooch) and I'm not ready to face the shattering grief when they have to leave you. But never say never... Maybe I'll get a kitty for a change? 🤔💖

I'm tallish; tall in some countries, average in others. Taller than Singto, shorter than Ohm. 😆

14. Favorite subject in school?

Art and art history? We had a dream lecturer who made the subject come alive. Also a psychology elective that I took, for all its insights into the human mind. In school school it was a mix depending on my mood and the topic of the day: English, geography, biology, chemistry, mathematics, or art. Didn't like physics or economics at all.

15. Dream job

Something in research and analysis backing up the boys in The Sign. 😆 Or maybe volunteering at a charity to help with food/housing (but I can probably only think about doing this after securing my own retirement).

15 question OC interview [Fynn edition] 🕑

Tagged by all the lovelies @ghost-town-story @fanged-solace and @willtheweaver -- thanks, guys! I love writing these they're so fun :) Today we're going to interview Fynn!! I'm very excited for this as his character recently got a bit of a behind-the-scenes makeover and has some new backstory. :)

Previously on, in case anyone wants to view, are Antonio's interview, and Paris's.

"We gather here today..." Antonio intones, holding his notepad and lantern as though he is the sole survivor of a doomed expedition in the jungle. "For a bold and momentous occasion."

"Speak for yourself," Paris says, leaning against the wall behind him. "Some of us gather for the entertainment." "Being me," Fynn says dolefully, trying not the clutch the armrests of his chair so tight that he ruins the fabric.

Are you named after anyone?

Not a terrible question to start off with, all things considered. "Yes," Fynn says. "My grandfather. He died when I was only a few years old."

When was the last time you cried? And a terrible second question. Fynn eyeballs Antonio, but he just looks normal. Which is to say, like an utter loon. Behind him, Paris and Velia knock their shoulders together. Only Lewis has some measure of sympathy on his face. Probably because he knows he'll be next before too long. "I don't remember," Fynn lies. He did remember. It had been the night before he'd decided to leave the city. Antonio raises an eyebrow but scribbles the answer down.

Do you have kids? "Booo," Velia says loudly. Antonio twists around in his seat to glare at her. "My older sister has children," Fynn says before either of them can start a fight. "I've only met the oldest two. They are some of my favorite people in the world."

Do you use sarcasm?

Fynn sighs. "Alas yes."

What's the first thing you notice about people? "I don't really," Fynn apologies. He tries not to wilt under the four confused gazes suddenly latched on him. "I'd make a terrible detective." "Not at all?" "Leave him alone, Antonio," Lewis says, and what do you know, Antonio moves on.

What's your eye color? "--I don't know," Fynn says, thrown. When has he ever noticed, or cared? Lewis scurries over and kneels before him. "Gray," he says. "Like steel beams. Or coal smoke." Fynn smiles down at him. Lewis winks.

Scary or happy endings? "I don't like endings," Fynn says honestly.

Any special talents? "No," Fynn says, frowning. "But I've skills. I'm a mechanic by trade, I know my way around an engine and the tools needed to maintain her, and a fair bit of carpentry as well." "And you're good with kids," Velia adds. "That's a skill alright."

Where were you born?

Fynn can't help but grin, thinking of home. "Norway."

What are your hobbies? Fynn frowns. "I'm a working man--" "Oh shut up," Antonio whines. "Live a little, Fynn. You're here with us, aren't you?" "Then you're my hobbies," Fynn says, just to see their faces. They don't disappoint.

Have you any pets? "I can hardly feed myself on a good day," Fynn says, realizing he's calmer now than he expected to be. "Can you imagine a dog trailing after me?" "How about a rat?" Paris suggests unhelpfully. "Since they're already your roommates?" "Or a pigeon?" Velia adds. Fynn rolls his eyes. The two of them, honestly.

What sports do you play/have played? "This is ridiculous," Fynn mutters. "Yes, ridiculous," Paris says, almost like he's been waiting for it. "Quite right, Fynn." Antonio shoots him a look. "I didn't invite you, you insisted on accompanying us. At least get out and leave us be." Paris leans down, grabs the notebook and reads off the next question.

How tall are you? "Fynn," Paris finishes, laughing a little. "Have you a measuring tape in your pocket?" "Yes, actually," Fynn says sheepishly pulling it out. He hands it to Antonio when he sees how large his grin is. Paris throws his hands up. "Might as well actually measure then." "Six foot one inch!" Antonio says triumphantly. "Good lord you're tall."

Favorite subject in school? "I stopped going to school when I came to America to work," Fynn tells them. "I can't say I miss it."

Dream job? "My job now," Fynn says. "With my family nearby and well and a steady paycheck." "And a flamingo," Antonio says promptly. Fynn stares. "Just to spice your plans up a little," Antonio elaborates. "Worry not, I will supply it." "You're going to make me steal from a zoo, aren't you," Velia says grimly. Antonio smiles.

No. My middle name is the same as my mom's but I think that's more because it's very common.

2. When was the last time you cried?

When I was writing the snippet in this post. It was a full out I can't even see anymore type of ugly cry.

3. Do you have kids?

One! Well, 3 if you count the cats (and I totally do)

4. What sports do you play/have played?

Not really much of a sports person (I'm sure that's shocking information) but I did at one point do track, cross country and marching band.

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Moi? Never!

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

For IRL people probably their energy. And I guess something similar for Pocket Friends just in a different way.

Dude (gn) I hate this question so much. I'm sure there's something, I just can't think of what it is. I guess I like to think I'm good with puns and word play. Oh! And I have this knack for getting upgraded seats at concerts and sporting events.

Are you named after anyone? — Apparently after one of the girls from my dad's university class who was "the most beautiful woman he has ever seen" lol While working on my family tree I have also discovered that my name was often used in my greatgrandmother's family as well!

When was the last time you cried? — A few weeks ago I think.

Do you have kids? — No.

What sports do you play / have played? — None but I liked volleyball and football in PE class.

Do you use sarcasm? — Most of the time.

What is the first thing I notice about a person? How they present themselves to the outside world. I don't mean it in a way "oh they're obviously poor" because it's not about money but the way people dress and do their hair says a lot about their personality. It's about noticing the little things. And I'm usually right about them anyway. It's not only about the looks but also the way they address other people and the faces they make. I observe and I notice.

What’s your eye color? — We call them "beer" colour here. They're light brown and one is sightly green, too.

Scary movies or happy endings? — I love happy endings but I also love horror movies. And in horror movies I prefer creepy endings, actually.

Any talents? — Writing, mostly. A few others as well but not as important.

Where were you born? — In a Polish city in the mountains.

What are my hobbies? — Cinema literature, music, history, cultural anthropology, psychology, philosophy, vampires.

Are you named after anyone?

Yes, I am named after the first and most well-known succubus, Lilith. It is a common name among succubi, as I also have a great grandmother with the same name.

When was the last time you cried?

Yesterday. I've always been a crybaby. But at least it was a good cry yesterday... from someone unexpected complimenting my writing ability. 🥹

Do you have kids?

Hell no! I can't even take care of myself, let alone a kid. I'm not putting children through that.

What sports do/have you played?

Fencing... at least in University. Who doesn't want to stab people with swords? And the fencing community itself is actually really supportive and friendly. I actually met my current partner through fencing. (If you love someone, stab them with an epee) 🤺

Do you use sarcasm?

On occasion, but I don't think I use it often enough. When I was younger, I had a hard time understanding sarcasm and still struggle with it today every once in a while. It's just hard to tell sometimes whether a person is joking or being genuine/passive aggressive. When I use sarcasm, I try to go over the top with inflection to try and make it obvious I'm joking. Just want to make it easier for others.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

How they make me feel. I get this is supposed to be a physical description thing, but I usually won't pay attention to someone unless they have something that gets a reaction out of me. If they wear a shirt I like, I notice. If they successfully throw a ball of paper in the trash while yelling "Michael Jordan," I notice. If they like one of my comments online, I notice. All of those things make me feel joy and help me notice the person who did the thing. 😊

Scary movies, or happy endings?

Happy endings. Yeah, it's cliche, but I feel bad for people who don't reach a satisfying conclusion. And scary movies can be fun, but I watch them more for the story than the jump scares and grotesque aesthetics. It's great if a movie makes me uncomfortable with it's writing, but being uncomfy isn't something I like feeling.

Any talents?

None that I feel confident enough in to be deemed "Ultimate" or "Super High School Level" but I am able to write words on a page... so that's a thing, right?

Where were you born?

The American Underworld. To compare it to somewhere in the Overworld, I guess you could say I live in the Midwestern United States.

What are your hobbies?

Writing, video editing, gaming, listening to video essays, watching vtubers, reading fanfiction, daydreaming about random nonsensical things.

Do you have any pets?

Nope, never grew up with any and never felt comfortable taking care of one for the longest time. But my partner has a cat that I would protecc with my last dying breath.

How tall are you?

I am 5' 6" which is about average female height I think?

Favorite subject in school?

Creative writing. No surprise huh? English was okay, but other students made it disruptive and teachers focused more on sentence diagrams than actual storytelling.

Dream job?

I would love to do vtubing full-time, but don't think it will ever be realistic. I wish I had more time to write and create fictional worlds. But if I can't find the words, I also wouldn't mind video editing and slicing segments in a timeline to create a story that way.
