Business intelligence (BI) stands at the forefront of utilising data to enhance business operations. BI tools help businesses harness the full potential of their data, providing knowledge and insights to improve decision-making, streamline workflows, and boost business performance.
What is a BI tool
Consider a Business Intelligence tool as a sophisticated data analyst that never sleeps. It is essentially software for business intelligence, processing vast amounts of data, identifying patterns and trends, predicting future scenarios, and providing actionable insights. To categorize some of our favorite tools business intelligence provides, we have data integration tools, data warehousing software, data mining tools, data quality management software, and data modeling software.
Cloud-Based BI Platforms
As the digitization of businesses accelerates, cloud-based BI platforms are gaining popularity. They encapsulate the flexibility and advanced features of top bi platforms like Sisense, MicroStrategy, and Microsoft Power BI, which are highly appreciated for their powerful cloud functionalities.
Self-Service BI Tools
The era of sole dependence on IT professionals for data analytics is slowly fading. The new trend is self-service BI tools that empower even non-technical users to extract insights from data. Tableau, Zoho Analytics, and Qlikview are some of the best business intelligence software offering user-friendly drag-and-drop interfaces and intuitive dashboards.
Mobile BI Apps
In our fast-paced world, access to real-time data on the go is a godsend. Mobile BI apps help business leaders stay informed, make data-driven decisions on the move, and share critical insights with teams, anytime and anywhere. Examples of best bi tools in the market that offer impressive mobile capabilities include TIBCO Spotfire and Looker.
Data Visualization Tools
Turning complex data into easily comprehensible visuals is what data visualization tools do best. For those looking for high-impact visuals, tools like Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and QlikSense top the charts in the domain of best business intelligence platforms.
Business Analytics Platforms
Geared towards predictive and prescriptive analytics, business analytics platforms guide businesses to foresee potential issues and prescribe strategic solutions. Noteworthy amongst such best BI platforms are Alteryx, SAS Analytics, and IBM Predictive Analytics.
Big Data Analytics Platforms
These platforms are explicitly designed to efficiently process and analyze large volume, high-velocity, and diverse data sources. Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, and Apache Hadoop are examples of top-performing big data analytics platforms.

Top 30 Reasons You Should Be Considering Power BI Training in Pakistan
BI #1 Power BI Training in Pakistan “In the future, I believe there will be those who were able to adapt the new method early and rapidly and are leading from the front, as well as those who couldn't, shouldn't, or wouldn't and were left in the dust.” For various reasons, there were (and still are) individuals who went early and those who waited. When a company has a big financial commitment in a legacy BI solution, there can be a good reason to hold off. Power BI was primarily a self-service BI solution in 2017, and it wasn't nearly suitable for enterprise use. All of that has changed now. So buckle up – here are my top 30 reasons why you and your firm should adopt Power BI for self-service and/or enterprise BI.
BI #1 Power BI Training in Pakistan
Tumblr media
1. It's from Microsoft (the new Microsoft)
Nobody can doubt Microsoft's dominance in the world of business software and IT solutions.
Microsoft hasn't always been good at listening to individual customer complaints, but it has always been good at developing and delivering world-class commercial products. Power BI is a continuation of that tradition, but it is superior for all of the reasons I discuss in this article.
2. Power BI is based on the SSAS platform from the ground up.
Although Power BI is a new tool, it has a long history. Microsoft has been one of the most successful firms in the BI market, with SQL Server Analysis Services Multidimensional and Microsoft Excel, in terms of self-service BI. Excel was the most extensively used self-service BI tool prior to Power BI Training in Pakistan.
3. Power BI is based on SSIS from the ground up.
Power Query (the self-service ETL tool – Extract, Transform, and Load) was designed from the ground up utilizing new technologies yet with a proven track record, just as Vertipaq. However, Microsoft has once again brought in its top SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) team, which has a long and successful track record of successful ET.
4. Power BI can import data from almost any source.
Connectors for the majority of the key data sources have already been constructed and deployed in production. There is also a "catch-all" ODBC database connector, and new (less mainstream) connectors are constantly being developed. In addition, several cloud-based connectors, such as Google Analytics, make it simple for users to connect to cloud content.
5. Power BI is extremely compact and fast.
Vertipaq (the data modelling engine in Power BI and Excel) is a columnar database that is extremely compressed and performant. It creates a highly compressed database that loads completely into memory for fast performance using modern tabular database technology (developed from the ground up). It is not uncommon for a database to compress between 600 and 1200 percent, resulting in a 1 percent reduction in size.
6. Power BI now has a brand-new visualization engine.
There is no luggage to bring with you on this trip - no Silverlight, for example. Microsoft has created a fresh new HTML 5 visualization engine that is simply amazing. Everything (nearly everything) will be sliced and diced, and everything else will be cross-filtered.
7. Open source visualizations are available in Power BI.
Microsoft released early on (thanks to that excellent leadership noted before) that it couldn't solve world peace by itself. Instead of trying to address every visualization challenge for every firm around the world, Microsoft opted to offer its visualization source code so that any competent developer can design their own.
8. Power BI is designed for Excel users, but it is not Excel.
This is the pinnacle of self-service Power BI Training in Pakistan. Who better than the firm that created and owns Excel to develop the user interface for the business user community? While it is reasonably simple to get started for Excel users, it is not Excel. The rigout and structure of SQL Server Analysis Services have been integrated into this product by Microsoft.
9. Power BI is now available in the cloud.
The world is heading to the cloud, whether we like it or not. This solution was designed from the ground up with cloud sharing in mind. It employs all of the latest HTML5 coding approaches to ensure browser compatibility across all platforms. It has industrial-grade security wrapped around its cloud presence, and it is unquestionably safe — Microsoft's image is tarnished.
Unless it's in the cloud, that is.
For whatever reason, not every firm is ready to shift to the cloud. Microsoft has announced Power BI Report Server, an on-premise version of Power BI that allows businesses to store their data on-premise if necessary. Furthermore, the software's desktop version is free for anybody to use and is at least as excellent (if not better) than Excel for performing personal BI analyses.
11. There are mobile apps for Power BI.
One of the advantages of starting from scratch is that you don't have a legacy to uphold. Microsoft has developed apps for both Apple and Android devices (and Windows mobile of course).
12. You can subscribe via email, but don't do so!
I understand that some of you simply want your static report delivered to your inbox every morning. That's fine, Power BI can handle that. Simply navigate to the report tab you wish to see, click "subscribe via email," and when you get to work, a professionally prepared PDF that is excellent for printing will be waiting in your inbox.
13. You may integrate Power BI into your own custom apps.
Another advantage of starting from the bottom up is that you can consider a wide range of concerns when designing the architecture. Microsoft has always intended for Power BI Training in Pakistan to be able to be integrated into custom apps. So, if you want to create your own website and control user access with your own logon credentials, Microsoft is happy with that. It's just them.
14. Power BI is inexpensive to purchase.
It's completely free to try and use for as long as you wish. If you want to use more enterprise capabilities, such as regulated data sharing and automatic refreshes via gateways, you'll have to pay – wait for it – a whopping US$9.99 per month per user. It's enough to send the competition shivering through their boots!
15. Power BI is simple to use (and hence cheap to train users)
A Power BI report can be interacted with by anyone who can click a button. Anyone who wishes to consume content interactively will find it straightforward and simple to understand. The product's minimal training costs make the total cost of ownership quite appealing. And that's before the product is ever utilized to assist users in making decisions.
Tumblr media
16. Power users can learn how to use Power BI's modelling engine.
With the Vertipaq engine, Power BI is also enabling self-service BI for a new breed of "citizen developers" from the business community. It is no longer the sole responsibility of an MDX coder to create a usable cube. Many businesses will continue to require IT cube developers, and they can now do it more easily.
17. Power users can learn how to use data loading features in Power BI.
Power Query is so simple to use that it embarrasses SSIS experts. I'm not implying that SSIS developers are no longer required. For large-scale enterprise BI initiatives, I believe there will always be a demand for enterprise-grade technology.
18. Power BI is a self-service BI platform
Power BI Training in Pakistan is self-service BI embodied for the two reasons mentioned above (the Vertipaq engine and Power Query). It's all you'd expect from self-service BI and more. Any proficient Excel user may easily learn and apply these tools, allowing them to become partially self-sufficient in their analytics and reporting needs.
19. Except when it's not self-service BI
However, just because Power BI is a powerful self-service BI tool doesn't imply it can't also be a powerful enterprise BI tool — in fact, it can do both. Power BI is both a powerful enterprise tool and a self-service solution. Also, don't overlook the importance of ad hoc and enterprise analysis capabilities.
20. Power BI provides dashboards for consolidation.
Power BI is a data source aggregator, among other things. It makes no difference where your data comes from or how/if it connects with other data that matters to you. You can add data in Power BI and pin your visualizations to a dashboard/cockpit where you can view everything you care about and nothing you don't.
21. Power BI improves on a daily basis - literally!
The Power BI service is updated on a regular basis. Improvements are released into the cloud service as they are made. Microsoft also has to make upgrades to the mobile apps and Power BI Desktop at the same time. These products are released on a monthly basis rather than on a daily basis, but the speed is still tremendous.
22. Power BI has a large user base.
At the time of writing, Power BI was less than two years old (it is now six years old), and there are millions of users in the community who ask questions and help out other like-minded people. There are hundreds of user groups in major cities throughout the world, and there are displays illustrating how individuals are already utilizing Power BI. Specifically
23. What's significant is decided by the Power BI community.
Isn't it true that Microsoft has evolved? Rather than producing simply what Microsoft feels we need, the company is asking the community what new features they want the most. Anyone can sign up and submit and/or vote on new product improvement suggestions.
24. Power BI features a query engine that understands plain language.
This may appear to be a gimmick, but believe me when I say it is quite cool and effective. You may ask well-designed Power BI Training in Pakistan data model natural language questions like "what were my sales yesterday by state?" or "how are bike sales trending compared to last year?" Power BI will do its best to provide the answer to you as a table, chart, or whatever else you like.
25. Power BI provides automatic analysis with immediate insights.
When you load your Power BI reports to PowerBI.com, a rapid insights tool will trawl through them and analyze the data for quick insights. Quick Insights produced about 50 fascinating pieces of information about the data in my report when I ran it on the Adventure Works demo database.
26. Power BI works in tandem with Excel (no need for export)
Power BI has two major benefits over the competition in this area. To begin, you don't need to export to Excel; simply choose "Analyze in Excel," and Power BI and Excel communicate as if they were twins separated by an umbilical cord (this is literally true in fact). Second, Power BI's appearance and feel is so similar to Excel that it's hard to tell them apart.
27. Power BI works in tandem with PowerPoint.
The truth is that most organizations rely on PowerPoint to communicate stories, thus many people want Power BI Training in Pakistan and PowerPoint to work together. OK, today's PowerPoint integration is quite limited (you can simply export reports to slides), but it works and will only improve. There is already a third-party product available that allows you to email.
28. R and Python are integrated into Power BI.
R and Python are two of the world's most popular open source statistics and transformation software programmes. Microsoft isn't attempting to compete with these applications. Instead, it has decided to natively integrate R and Python into Power BI, allowing you to use your packages with Power BI.
29. Integration of Third-Party Tools
Third-party tools have been around for a long time, most notably DAX Studio and Tabular Editor, but these are just two of the most well-known; there are many more. Microsoft (the new Microsoft) made the deliberate choice to "harden" the Power BI backend so that third-party developers could connect directly to Power BI Training in Pakistan and Power BI Desktop in a stable and supported manner.
30. Microsoft is a favorite of Gartner
Last but not least, Gartner ranks Microsoft first among all vendors in terms of vision completeness and ability to deliver.

Dealing with Dirty Data
Adventures in Excel
In my last post, we discussed how what separates a true analyst (read: technical) from a project manager wearing the mask of an analyst like some Scott Snyder era Joker (I figure that there's a solid overlap between fans of comic books and fans of the real world application of data. Note that this is a study with an N = 1 so it bares no statistical significance, but I have a funny feeling...call it spidey sense). Full disclosure, this post comes mostly out of my inability to sleep in my hotel room in Chicago following a grueling day of doing the very things I discuss in this blog, and preceding a day where I'll have to literally explain my last post to the suits, but perhaps this is the best mindset to begin discussing the myriad ways in which you may encounter dirty data in the wild, and how a savvy analyst may pivot and match their way around it. However, if my prose isn't as on point as you have grown accustomed...blame it on the 4AM haze. Alas, let's begin by discussing the organizational structure of the majority of corporate entities that leverage data to some degree (note, this isn't all corporations...and what does that say about the state of business?) and how, at each step of abstraction in this process that you are from the data, the data gets dirtier and dirtier. Essentially, there's always going to be a group of about 5-10 fewer-than-necessary legitimately skilled data scientists and/or computer programmers/DBAs who are really solid at building and maintaining a database as well as and some sort of compiling language (nowadays, that's probably python, but not exclusively, nor does this matter). However, depending on your industry (unless of course your industry IS data), it's nearly impossible to recruit people who have these skills to the level necessary AND have some familiarity with why this data is needed, and/or the ability to explain how the internal products that they build can be used by an end user. As such, this team has their own project manager(s) who's sole job is to keep these guys from developing a sentient AI that's sole goal is the annihilation of unfolded laundry...when your industry is healthcare. This team should also have at least one analyst who will take the raw code base and do the first step of translation to a more user friendly form. This generally takes shape as either dashboards in a system like Tableau, or if your company has a group of particularly strong data/business analysts (or particularly weak programmers) an interface written in plain(enough) English on a Business Intelligence platform such as Microsoft BI/SAP Business Objects or whatever other system your company utilizes. As a fun little note, this team ALMOST ALWAYS is referred to by some sort of acronym such as QDAR! (Quality data and reporting!) or KMnR! (Knowledge management and reporting!) or Those Fucking Guys (who have something to do with data) (TFG(whstdwd)). On a less fun little note...neither you, nor seemingly ANYONE ELSE will have contact with this team. In light of this information, how do the reports that they build get chosen or who decides how these databases are built? The world may never know. So let's assume the first type of reporting: the Dataratti (which is how I will refer to the acronym defined team described above moving forward) produces dashboards utilizing a tool such as Tableau or Crystal Reports. You may be thinking to yourself: "hey, isn't my job taking the data and putting it in a form where people who are scared by more than two nested groups of parenthesis, and thus this renders my job unnecessary?" The answer to the question is twofold: Yes, and of course not! As mentioned previously, the decision to create these dashboards, the data contained therein, and how you want them to look is decided upon by a mythical creature who has full access and understanding of the data warehouse, AND has full access to and understanding of the stakeholders (AKA, Those Who Sit Above in Shadow ; that's a reference from a famous run of Thor comics that refers to to a mysterious cabal of gods who perpetuate the cycle of Ragnarok in order to subsist upon the energies created by this strife...which as I write this, is an almost disgustingly on-the-nose metaphor for upper management). Now, if you believe that you may be this mythical creature (as I do), I DARE you to apply for a job with this job description, and once you clinch it with the advice from this blog, rapidly realize that your job will involve either one of these job duties or the other. With that digression, even if somehow a useful dashboard for YOU is created, the limitations inherent in these dashboarding tools make one CRUCIAL issue omnipresent: one can only effectively illustrate up to 16 different variables at a time before the system breaks down (for example, Tableau's documentation specifically warns against this). So even if you have the nicest, most illustrative dashboards on the planet from the Dataratti, there is a nearly 100% chance that the information that you actually need will be scattered across 2-3 different dashboards...rendering the nice looking dashboards essentially useless for your purposes, and as previously stated, you have no contact with the Dataratti, nor do you have access to the underlying data from which these dashboards are created. So pop quiz hot shot, what DO you do? Well, mercifully, all of these dashboard tools allow an end user to download a "data dump" (our parlance for "a buncha numbers with headings"). Using Tableau as an example, one can download either a "crosstab" or a text file of the data represented by the dashboard (in both "summary" and "full data" format). Now, just to get the truly gifted in Tableau off my back, yes, the functionality does exist to build in the ability to download the data in the exact format necessary for your needs through a specific combination of custom web server views and Javascript, but... If the users of the dash are exclusively using this function, why do the dashboard at all? And... This forces the developers in the Dataratti to have decent web design skills on top of really high level Tableau skills, and it requires someone to anticipate exactly how the data will be used by the end user by the Dataratti (which is incredibly hard as it's impossible to speak to this department directly, and as previously stated, the lack of this knowledge on their end is the entire reason why my department exists). A few things to note before downloading data from Tableau: You must highlight at least one element of the dashboard before downloading a crosstab. Depending on what kind of dashboard you're working with, you may need to highlight the entirety of one column in order to capture the entirety of your data (click the first element in any column and then scroll down to the bottom of the report...which may be enormously long, hit shift and click the last element in the report) before downloading either the data or the crosstab. If you are downloading a crosstab, be wary, Tableau web server caps how many rows you can download in this method at a time, this can be avoided by downloading the text version of the data (by clicking data as opposed to crosstab). HOWEVER... If you are going the data route, it defaults to summary view. Look over all the headings, and ensure that this covers everything you need, otherwise click "full data" . Interestingly, this still isn't actually the entirety of your data, and continue to check to make sure all of your headings are covered, otherwise, click the display all columns box, and then download all the rows as a text file. Now, repeat these steps until all of the data that you need in your report is contained across these text files (.csv, AKA the Comma Separated Value file type). With all that lunacy completed, you now have several sheets with some common columns, but all with different information; only some of which you need, so what do you think you do? Simple, you use the tools given to you in the previous posts: you lookup on the common factors across the sheets and return the data that you want until you have all the data you need, in the correct order, on one sheet, and then depending on the ask, you may want to pivot that data out in order to summarize the whole mess of data. THIS IS YOUR FINAL PRODUCT well done. Another protip: if you want to reposition data that you've obtained via a lookup, highlight the whole column, hit control+C to copy the data and then hit control+V pause a second (press NOTHING else) and then press control FOLLOWED by V . This takes the values generated by a formula and replaces them with the values obtained. Functionally, this looks exactly the same, but now you can move the data around without affecting or being affected by other data. As explaining only one possible dirty data scenario took over 1500 words, next time, we'll discuss the other most common form of taking the dirty data from the Dataratti and making it useful to you: using business intelligence portals as opposed to dashboards in order to grab the data that you need. Also, if I don't get roasted on a spit for being half asleep for tomorrow's (today's?) meeting, I'll try and write up a companion post with an example of how this works out in practice. In summary, in this post we've learned: How data is generally siloed and sequestered within the corporate environment, leading to a bevy of unnecessary steps on behalf of the analyst in order to distill a functional report for the powers-that-be Two major methods in which data comes from the data team (henceforth known as the Dataratti) to your team: Dashboards and Business Intelligence interfaces, and... Assuming you get data in the form of dashboards, how to take these dashboards, download the underlying data, recombine and manipulate the data, and package it in a way acceptable for your needs. Congrats, you've just learned the crucial skill of the Slice n' Dice ! Quite sleepily, -Snacks

16 Ways Artificial Intelligence Can Be Used in Marketing
Artificial Intelligence, in its most basic definition, refers to the capability of computer programs to predict and mimic human thoughts and actions. Thus, Artificial Intelligence for Marketers becomes increasingly helpful, as it allows you to better observe and predict consumer behavior and create delightful customer experiences.
AI allows for personalized communication for each consumer, which makes consumers connect with the brand better. This change in perception makes consumers feel valued, and a good customer-care experience means they will come back for more.
In addition to the above, the use of AI and AI-based tools can help marketers automate a lot of their repetitive work, become more productive, and increase their marketing ROI.
The potential of AI in marketing is massive. The applications of AI in marketing include, but are not limited to, chatbots, voice and image search, consumer profiling, etc.
In this article, we will look at 16 ways that talk about how to use AI in marketing.
Create Better Content Faster:
While AI cannot be used to write contextual pieces like Political Op-eds or an in-depth blog on industry-specific issues, it can prove useful for generating elementary content to bring in more traffic for your website.
AI can also be used for editing content. If you have ever used Grammarly, you have already been using AI in your everyday work to make your content clearer and more impactful
Here are dome AI-driven content creation tools that you can explore:
Quill – Have a marketing dashboard on data viz tools like Tableau or Power Bi that you want to summarize? Quill automatically converts your data into a story.
Wordsmith – Similar to Quill, wordsmith is another tool that generates millions of articles a year by transforming data into insightful narratives.
Articoolo – With Articoolo, all you need to do is enter your topic and word count. The tool then creates unique content from scratch, just like a human writer would!
MarketMuse First Draft – Marketmuse, an AI-powered content research and optimization tool has launched “First Draft”, which as the name indicates, automatically creates the first draft of the article, when you give it a topic with a basic brief.
Write Better Ad Copies:
Most digital advertising platforms today allow you to use multiple ad copies and then use machine learning to find the winner. Google’s Responsive Search Ads (RSA) are a perfect example of this. All you need to do is create multiple variations and the system will pick the best variations, tailored for the consumer the ad is being shown to.
But how do you know if you are coming up with the best copies for all those variations of your ads and creatives?
This where AI-driven copywriting tools like Phrasee come in. Phrasee uses data from your existing marketing campaigns to craft better data-driven messages that you can use to improve campaign efficiency.
And what’s more, the tool also understands your brand voice and ensures it is consistent on all the creatives.
Another tool that helps with coming up with the best messages to connect with your target audience, in your brand’s voice is Persado. It continuously learns from your data and keeps creating better data-driven messaging over time. And it works to create messaging across all your marketing channels.
Create a better content strategy:
Another application of artificial intelligence in marketing is using it to come up with better content strategies.
Here are some tools that can help you with creating an AI-powered content strategy:
Apart from these, MarketMuse mentioned above for content creation, also helps in building a full-fledged content strategy
Cobomba – Cobomba helps marketers with the entire content marketing process right from content recommendations to audits and planning. It also helps optimize existing content and track the performance of all your content marketing activities.
Atomic Reach: Atomic Reach uses AI to help you edit and optimize your content. It helps you create better titles and also auto-generate content summaries, which you can use for meta descriptions and social media captions
Automate repetitive tasks:
Applications of AI in marketing also include using or building programs and tools that allow you to automate tasks that were previously being done manually.
Let’s take an example – let’s say you are an SEO or content marketer and you are working on a site that has 20,000 pages, most of which have no meta description.
If you had to read content on each of these 20,000 pages and summarize it to write a meta description, it would take weeks to get this done. And you’ll be mind-numbed at the end of it!
Even if you get an army of 10 interns to do this for you, it would still take at least a week and you would also have to coordinate and follow up with each of them
A better solution here is to use an AI-powered tool to automatically generate meta descriptions for you. Smacient’s Meta Descriptions Writer Google Sheets add-on just does this – it uses AI-powered Natural Language Processing, which allows it to extract text from the given URLs and summarize it to generate a meta decsri[ptsoon
Apart from this, you can also use Python which has a lot of marketing applications to also help you automate a lot of your day-to-day boring repetitive tasks.
Target the right audiences with your ads:
Most digital advertising platforms today use machine learning to help you show the right ad to the right person at the right time and in the right context.
As a marketer, if you understand the fundamentals of how these systems work, you can use them to your advantage.
A simple example is Lookalike audiences in Facebook ads. These are audiences that Facebook builds which are similar to a source audience (custom audience) that you provide.
If you understand the fact that machine learning algorithms are only as strong as their input data (learning data), you would work to ensure that the source audiences that you use are the most powerful.
For example, if you had to create a lookalike of three custom audiences – 180-day website visitors, 180-day add-to-carts, and 180-day purchasers, which one of these would give you the most accurate lookalike? Well obviously the purchase audience (provided, the size is large enough), since these are people who have the highest probability of buying from you.
This might seem basic to those of you who are pros at performance advertising, but for those of you who are beginners, these are very important concepts to understand which will help you use the platforms machine learning capabilities to your advantage
Apart from having this understanding, you can also use tools like Albert AI to supercharge your performance advertising across platforms – search, social, and programmatic.
Use Chatbots for real-time interactions:
Chatbots are customer-interactive applications that solve consumer queries in real-time. It is not humanly possible to interact with consumers all day long and immediately respond to their queries manually. This is where the chatbot applications of AI in marketing come to a marketer’s rescue.
Consumers can use chatbots to solve multiple FAQs or any complaints they might have. This not only makes it easier for consumers to navigate through the website, but it also makes them feel valued. Since their troubles can be solved almost immediately, they are more likely to return to the same brand in the future as well.
However, chatbots need to be used with precautions. A consumer should be allowed to switch between chatbots, or human customer care executives if they so wish to. This allows for a flexible and accommodating experience for the consumers.
Tools like Mobile Monkey and TARS can help you quickly build and deploy chatbots to enhance your customer experience.
Derive better social media insights:
Markets today have to engage with customers across multiple social platforms, which makes monitoring it all very challenging. And deriving actionable insights is all the more challenging.
AI-powered social intelligence tools like Link fluence help track brand equity, detect social trends, monitor online reputation, and also identify the best social influencers to amplify the barn message.
Ensure your ads are showing in the right places:
Sifting through placement reports in Google Ads and other platforms to find placements that perform and exclude those that are not, can be a mammoth task, especially when you have hundreds of thousands of placements to analyze.
AI to the marketers’ rescue! Contextual intelligence tool GumGum uses computer vision and natural language processing to scan images, videos, audio, and text and ensure ads are served dynamically, where users are most likely to see them. It also ensures brand safety by preventing ads from showing on sites that could harm your brand’s reputation.
Use voice search to your advantage:
Voice Search allows consumers to simply voice their queries into their digital devices, without having to type it out.
With voice-activated services like Alexa, Siri, Google Home, etc on the rise, marketers can leverage these to create voice-focussed experiences for their target audience.
This would include optimizing for the answer box on search as well as creating Google Home Actions and Alexa Skills.
Automate SEO processes:
A lot of day-to-day SEO processes involve a lot of manual repetitive work.
Apart from the example of writing meta descriptions mentioned above, there are many other tasks, where using AI can help.
For example, we all know how important internal linking is to SEO. Let’s say you have started working on a new SEO project and want to get ideas on which internal pages you could link to. If you are not too familiar with the site and its contents, this could take you a very long time. A tool like Smacient’s Interlinking Opportunities Finder can help you save a ton of time. All you need to do is enter the page URL and the tool would suggest relevant anchor text and pages it could link to.
Another use case is paraphrasing. When you have to create multiple variations of text on your pages, to prevent duplicate content issues – you could use Natural Language Processing algorithm to your advantage and get the same done much faster than getting a team of people to do it.
Profile your audience better:
Customer Profiling refers to marketers making extensive profiles on their customers, by extracting and analyzing as much data about them as possible. These profiles include data like their demographics, expectations, beliefs, behavioral patterns, etc.
These data points can be used to analyze the customer’s purchasing patterns, and then group customers on the basis of shared patterns. These groups, called segments, can be used to create customized communication strategies with the customers, to identify target audiences, to predict the purchase decisions a group might make, and then use that knowledge to come up with strategies that increase average customer purchase value, and so on.
Leverage predictive analytics:
While it is important for businesses to gain new customers, it is also equally, if not more, important for them to keep their existing consumer base. Statistically, strategies to get new customers cost more than keeping the pre-existing customers happy. Marketers can work out how to use AI in marketing by using predictive analytics – that is to say, you can use available data and common trends to predict if any of your existing customers are on their way to stop using your product/service. You can then deploy tactics to keep them engaged / happy and prevent them from leaving.
Apart from predicting customer churn and reducing it, you can also use tools like Pattern89 to predict which creatives would work, even before you launch your campaign! Imagine how much marketing money this could save you if you didn’t have to run an A/B test and wait for the data to help you find the winner. All that money and time spent testing could now be deployed elsewhere to increase your marketing ROI.
Create personalized website experiences:
Another way to use artificial intelligence in marketing is by making the website experience itself something that is suited to the consumer’s taste.
You could ensure that each site visitor gets content based on their past interactions on the site. This keeps them engaged and makes them want to come back for more.
Imagine what your website could do if it recommended content to your users, just like how Netflix does – in a highly personalized manner!
A tool that helps here is Path Factory, which creates AI-driven content journeys based on the individual’s content consumption data.
Create hyper-personalized emails:
Artificial Intelligence can be used to compose personalized emails for one-on-one interactions with customers.
Dell reported a very high return on investment rate after employing artificial intelligence in marketing for their emails. Doing so involved dividing their wide consumer base into multiple segments – based on their purchase patterns, age group, and other such data which would impact their buying decisions. These segments were then sent customized emails and newsletters with headlines and subject details that were most suited to catch their attention. Once a target audience had been set, Dell could further entice them with customized discounts and offers. After employing this AI technology, Dell reported an increase in both click-through rates and conversions.
Customized emails not only provide consumers with deals best for them, thereby increasing chances of them remaining loyal buyers, but also provides a human element in an otherwise technical industry. This human element, which can make consumers feel valued can be all the difference between customers who return for further purchases and customers who don’t.
An example of a tool that helps with this is Rasa IO, which helps brands create “Smart Newsletters” to boost customer engagement and sales
Qualify your leads and nurture them:
As a marketer, one of your key goals is to send quality leads to the sales team and also nurture those leads until they convert.
Exceed AI is an AI-powered lead conversion automation platform that automatically qualifies your leads by asking them relevant qualifying questions in human-like conversations, before passing them on to sales.
This could help bring sales and marketing in perfect alignment and grow revenues for the organization.
Create unique marketing campaigns
With every brand trying to engage customers on digital media, there is a lot of noise and clutter out there.
If you want your marketing campaigns to drive real impact you would need to be creative and unique.
If you think creativity is only within the ambit of humans, think twice! You could use AI to your advantage when it comes to creativity as well – take a look at this example from Nutella in Italy. The Nutella Unica campaign used AI to generate millions of unique package designs which acted as prized collectibles, that consumers rushed to buy. Apart from driving sales the campaign also created a lot of social media chatter that helped the brand drive awareness and recall.
Conclusion:
In this day and age, when consumers are spoilt for choice between multiple brands in the market, it becomes necessary to make them feel valued in order to ensure their loyalty
Human capital alone is no longer enough to drive delightful customer experience in the fast-paced world that we live in. With the pace only going to increase, it is important for marketers to realize that it is not marketers vs AI but marketers plus AI that would allow marketers to be more productive, drive better impact, and improve marketing ROI while ensuring that our marketing campaigns continue to have the most important human touch.

Once your leads are scored you can concentrate your efforts on reaching out to those with the highest ROIs first or even automatically assign them to marketing campaigns.
11 – Eliminate duplicate leads for better customer communication.
Let’s say you have multiple files for the same lead. One has their nickname and phone number. Another has their full name and business email. And yet another one has their name, LinkedIn profile, and notes on your last meeting. Annoying is a nice way to put this problem.
If you or your employees look up this lead, there’s no way of knowing which version they’ll choose. Which means that notes added to one file might not make it over to the other. So your lead might be getting repeat sales calls from different reps. This kind of sloppy customer service can be remedied with features like Shape’s automatic duplicate merger.
Even if a team member accidentally creates a new file for someone already in the system, Shape can scan, detect, and merge them so all your information remains in one place. This will save you tons of time and headaches over the lifetime of your account.
12 – Sync your loan process with your other favorite apps.
Exporting to Fannie Mae 3.2 File or bi-directionally syncing with your LOS makes the whole process quick and easy. It also eliminates the need for extra administrative work. Shape Mortgage Software does this, as you may have already guessed, automatically after you’ve synced your accounts.
13 – Keep an eye on your website analytics.
Experts recommend that you track and review your website analytics if you want to grow your mortgage business. See which CTA button colors and placement get the most clicks. Or find new ways to improve the overall user experience. Shape helps you create custom forms and automatically collect data from your website visitors.
14 – Record and store phone conversations for future reference.
Whether you need to review information for compliance or reference it as a great case example for the future, recording and storing phone conversations is a valuable tool for your mortgage business. Utilizing Shape’s best-in-class integrated dialer with call scripting and recording is one of the best ways to improve your mortgage business. And, as long as you have their permission, your clients will appreciate your attention to detail.
15 – Prioritize client communication via SMS messaging.
Mortgage lenders can use texting in lots of great ways. And according to Ellie Mae, borrowers seem to prefer it more and more. Keep up with these shifting consumer preferences by adding Shape’s SMS messaging capabilities to your mortgage business tool box. Send one-off messages to your prospects and clients or build SMS into your next big marketing campaign with ease.
16 – Automatically organize lead overflow.
Yet another magic trick Shape can perform for you! If you often get backlogged when new leads come in you can use Shape’s intelligent overflow management interface to gather and prioritize it all. They’ll be sorted based on status or timeframe so you can concentrate on high priority items.
17 – Use a CRM.
If you’re not already using a CRM, it will transform your business. Especially if you run a one with multiple employees which most mortgage companies do. CRMs like the kind Shape Mortgage Software offers give you full transparency and visibility into your entire database of clients, prospects, and referrals. Keep more accurate records of your clients, search prospects, store documents in one central place, and so much more.
18 – Sync your email with your calendar.
It’s a small task but when you’re planning multiple meetings every week that involve different groups of people, manually adding it all to your calendar gets time consuming. Syncing your email to your calendar saves you the trouble of having to weed through old email chains to find someone’s information. It also makes it easy to add, confirm, and remind meeting participants without having to exit your business management platform.
Shape’s meeting scheduler will also keep your team in sync and your clients from missing any important calls.
19 – Use advance reporting to review the health of your business.
While Shape Mortgage Software does help you with the important day to day details, it also keeps you focused on the big picture. Advanced analytics and reporting helps you take a deep dive into what’s working for your business and what’s not. You can keep track of things like cash flow, lead sources, and open cases in real time.
Wondering what the ROI of your last big marketing campaign was? Shape can even run reporting for sales and marketing, which will allow you to properly invest your time (and money!) into business decisions that actually move the needle.
20 – Integrate your business management software with your tools you use every day.
Adopting a system like Shape doesn’t mean you have to give up your other favorite business tools you rely on. In fact, you can seamlessly integrate apps like Zillow, MailChimp, and many others in just a few simple steps. It all seamlessly comes together to form a collaborative ecosystem of mortgage business tools so you can achieve maximum efficiency and productivity.

How to Change Your Resume During COVID-19 (+ 3 Resume Examples)
“But why should I do it?”, you may ask. “Why should I change my resume during COVID-19?
Well, the coronavirus has changed the job market, whether we like it or not.
Some job positions require a new set of skills. New positions are being created (whether temporarily or not), others are disappearing.
Workplace is changing rapidly as well — hiring as a whole went online and many of us have to work remotely.
If you want to increase your chance of success, you need to adapt your resume to those changes. I’m going to tell you how you can do that in eight simple steps.
Oh, and if you make it to the end of this article, you’ll find three well-written resume examples that put these steps into practice.
How to Update Your Resume for COVID-19?
You probably know already what your resume should look like in 2020 — short, with a modern look, customized for each job, and error-free (bullshit-free too). Most of those things still apply.
But there’s now more you should do if you want your resume to stand out under the current circumstances. Just follow these 8 simple steps:
1. Review Your Resume Format
Before you get down to updating your content, you need to choose the most suitable resume format based on your current situation.
The most common resume format is chronological. It’s focused on your work experience that is organized in chronological order. If you already have a resume, you’re probably already familiar with this format. In case you’re looking for a job in your current industry, you can keep it.
However, if you’re working in a coronavirus-affected industry and you’re seeking opportunities in another field, you should consider giving your resume the functional or hybrid resume format.
Why should you opt for one of these? When changing careers, your past job titles may not be that relevant. Instead, you need to emphasize your transferable skills. Both of these formats focus on that rather than your work experience.
But what’s the difference between the two formats?
A functional resume revolves around skills or major accomplishments/career highlights and relegates work history to the bottom of the page (or not at all).
The hybrid resume format allows you to showcase your skills and accomplishments while providing a chronological summary of your work history just below.
Whichever resume format you choose, you should focus on your transferable skills like leadership, time management, delegation, customer service, or prioritization.
In other words, try to think of any skills that you could use in other companies as well and highlight them on your resume.
For instance, if you used to work as a flight attendant, you probably have strong customer service skills that you can use in a customer support role. (See the resume example at the end of this article for more.)
2. If You Got Laid Off, Explain What Happened
Has 2020 left you with a gaping gap on your resume?
If you were laid off due to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s completely okay to mention it on your resume. There are two reasons for that.
First, those who provide a reason for their work gap receive almost 60% more interviews than those who don’t.
Second, the reason matters a lot in this case. The whole world knows about the pandemic and understands the ramifications of it. Because of that, recruiters will understand your employment gap and won’t hold it against you when considering you for a position.
You can address this either in your professional summary or in the work experience section under the most current job title.
Something like “Recently laid off due to the COVID-19 and currently looking for my next opportunity,” will suffice.
3. Fill the Employment Gap
This goes hand in hand with the previous point. If you got laid off, the best thing you can do is explain how you used that time to do something useful.
Your next job interview might even include the question: “What did you do during the pandemic to advance yourself?”
Make sure you have something interesting to say.
Needless to say, it will help you frame the employment gap in a way that shows you in the best possible light.. In the end, it shows that you didn’t just wrap yourself in blankets like a depressed burrito but remained active.
Pick up a New Skill or Two
Seek out online webinars, classes, or certificates. For instance, if you’re applying for a social media manager position, it will likely require experience with Google Analytics or Google Adwords. If you’re certified in either one or both, it will boost your chances of scoring that job.
Try Coursera, Udemy, EdX, or LinkedIn Learning. Most of these platforms offer free courses or discounts to make learning available to the recently laid off.
Coursera
LinkedIn
Udemy
edX
IBM
You can also familiarize yourself with the technologies that have proved essential during the coronavirus pandemic. For instance, take a course on the basics of Google Meet, Zoom, or other online platforms. This will help you enter a new COVID-19-era workplace.
Then you can mention these new skills in your skills section or create a separate section called Courses & Certificates.
Volunteer
Although it may not feel great to go back to being an unpaid intern, volunteering shows that you stayed proactive. And which employer doesn’t like that?
You can volunteer for those who currently need it — there are many organizations in need of help during the pandemic.
Either that or you can volunteer from self-isolation — you can help organize a fundraising or start an online mentoring gig for students.
Alternatively, you can also reach out to companies you admire and ask them if they could find a volunteer position for you.
Then you can include it in your resume’s work experience or volunteering section.
Put Together a Portfolio or Work Samples
It’s one thing to claim you have skills, but it is another to back your words with evidence.
Now that you have a bit of time to spare, you can put together a portfolio that showcases your main competencies.
Collect your best designs, articles, publications, or other projects and turn them into a presentation, blog or your personal website.
You can then include a hyperlink to it in the contact information section of your resume.
4. Showcase Your Work Strategies
The coronavirus has turned most workplaces upside down. Chances are, you’ve already noticed some of these changes taking place before leaving your previous company.
Your resume needs to show that you’ve adapted to these changes in a proactive way.
If you’ve been on the frontlines of navigating through HR issues at your company, explain the impact of your work. Describe the leadership decisions you had to take to manage the crisis.
Also, there’s a chance you were doing something new due to COVID-19, be it working from home, adjusting the company’s strategy, or taking up tasks from laid off co-workers. Give yourself credit for that.
Here’s an example:
“During the COVID-19 crisis, I championed the implementation of video conferencing and other online resources to ensure the continuation of smooth and effective training delivery for all teachers and students. I also developed and launched online self-learning modules for independent students, and supported a move towards more longer-term online learning solutions.”
5. Mind the Tech
Teleworking skills or online tools like Zoom, Skype, Asana — all of these have quickly become essential to most workplaces. If you have these skills, make sure to mention them.
You can include them in your skills section or mention them throughout your resume — in your profile or work experience descriptions.
Here’s an example:
“As an IT specialist, I help to enable companies’ workforces to accomplish their day-to-day business activities by going remote using a variety of tools, such as:
Project Management tools (Asana, Trello, Zoho Projects)
Zoho One — Operating System for Business (Marketing, Sales, Operations, HR)
CRM (Hub Spot, Zoho CRM, Bitrix24)
Intranet ( JIRA, Zoho Help Desk)
Reporting, Data Visualisation (Tableau, Power BI, Plotly Dash, MicroStrategy)”
You can also mention other related achievements like increasing the company’s revenue, ability to cut costs, ability to manage remote teams, or experience with working from home.
6. Highlight Other (Soft) Skills
LinkedIn’s 2019 report revealed that over 90% of recruiters think soft skills matter just as much (if not more) than technical skills.
In fact, they might prove to be even more important in the age of COVID-19.
How is it possible? Let me put it this way — it doesn’t matter if your IT manager is good with computers when he can’t communicate effectively with his team.
Here are most important soft skills that you can currently highlight on your resume:
Flexibility.
Adaptability.
Leadership.
Creativity.
Drive.
Communication.
Reliability.
Teamwork.
Problem-solving.
Decision-making.
Time management.
But remember that these words mean nothing on their own. The best thing you can do is mention them in your skills section and then back them up in your work experience descriptions with specific examples of how you used these skills in the past.
Something like this:
Communication skills — Built and strengthened customer relationships using effective communication skills providing a tailored approach to each client resulting in customer service recognized both by clients and the company.
Time management — Delivered accurate and timely administrative support to the underwriting team.
Leadership — Managed and mentored a team of 16 staff within the Birmingham office.
Creativity — Greatly increased the number of high-quality videos and graphics for tweets, resulting in the account growing from 50K to 107K followers during my tenure.
7. Get a Reference From Your Former Employer
It’s never too early to ask your former employer for a job search reference. Believe it or not, now it’s a perfect time.
In the end, what’s in the current job search situation better than having someone who can vouch for you and your abilities?
Needles to say, most employers feel bad about job cuts too and want to lend a helping hand. Beyond providing advice and assistance to land a new job, some of them will be also happy to provide you with a positive reference.
Ask your former employers, supervisors, or any other higher-ups if you can use them as a reference during your job search. If you’re not sure how to formulate your request, here’s a useful email template.
Then you can put your references directly on your resume. Either provide full details about your contacts or write the phrase “References available upon request.”
Alternatively, you can provide the references as a separate document attached to your job application.
8. Don’t Forget to Showcase Your Main Accomplishments
The goal of your resume is to emphasize your achievements, results, and projects to highlight your career value. Don’t let the coronavirus derail those efforts.
If you want to stand out in a growing crowd of job seekers, you need to show your value. How?
Quantify as much information as possible. Ask yourself questions like How much? How many? How often?
Any metrics you can pull in will be much more impactful than a generic description of your duties.
Here’s an example. It sounds a bit bland, doesn’t it?
Responsible for new sales and existing client growth.
Consistently exceeded quarterly and annual sales goals.
And here’s a revamped version:
Delivered 200% above sales revenue targets 2 years in a row.
Recognized as the Top Producing Sales Executive 2 years in a row.
Generated $12 million in revenue.
Resume Examples
A single example is often worth a thousand words, isn’t it? Let’s then finally put the theory into practice.
Here are 3 well-written resumes adjusted to the current COVID-19 job search situation. They will help you get started:
1. COVID-19 Employment Gap Resume Example
If you got laid off due to COVID-19, try to use your time between jobs to do something pro-active and meaningful.
Did you spend that time working as a volunteer in your local community? Did you
complete any online courses or educational programs? Don’t hesitate to mention it in your resume, especially if it’s something relevant to your field.
It will boost your chances of getting hired!
2. Career Change Resume Example
If you’re pursuing a career change, give special care to your skills section.
Luckily for anyone who is (whether voluntarily or involuntarily) trying to get a job in a different field, the functional resume format allows you to focus your resume on transferable skills, strengths, and relevant achievements.
Don’t underestimate this CV format! Opening your resume with a properly written skills section might be something what will get you ahead in the job search during the coronavirus era.
3. Technical Skills Resume Example
It’s 2020 and remote jobs are more ubiquitous than ever. Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, being able to work from home played a key role to many people when deciding which job to take.
Presumably, companies will need their future job applicants to be able to work on their tasks and projects regardless of their location.
If they hope to succeed in that, employees will have to become skilled in using various software tools which enable them to communicate with their colleagues, delegate tasks, share documents, etc.
That’s why you should always add various computer skills to your resume. Don’t forget that recruiters often sort CVs by whether the job candidates can use the software necessary for the position or not.

Executive Insights: A Conversation with the “Father of Business Intelligence” Howard Dresner
It has been a great pleasure over the years to meet and work with some amazing pioneers in the world of high technology.  They all have several things thing in common – vision, passion, and ability to drive innovation and make their brilliant ideas become reality.
One such person is Howard Dresner, the Chief Research Office and founder of Dresner Advisory Services. I first met Howard over 30 years ago at DEC. The company was faced with the challenge of being successful in the field of information access, executive information systems and decision support system solutions.
This was also the early stage of Data Warehousing, and while these all worked together, they were comprised of disparate components.  At the time we used “marketecture” concepts to explain such complex solutions.
I have since come to understand this as an “inside-out” versus an “outside-in” concept; we started with the products and concepts and built out from there.  What was truly lacking was a unification concept that was easy to understand and consume.
I am proud to say I was in the room the day Howard Dresner coined the term Business Intelligence (BI) at DEC.  I remember that moment vividly, with a single graphic that unified disparate concepts, and an umbrella term that would go on to change the IT industry forever.
Howard took the concept to Gartner, became a VP and Research Fellow, and established the Gartner BI practice and a successful BI customer conference. As we say — the rest is history.  I joined Howard’s team earlier this year, and it has been great working in BI again — although I really never left, especially given how pervasive data and analytics have become in marketing.
Now in the thirteenth year of running Dresner Advisory Services, we had a chance to look back and discuss the state of BI, the changes we’ve both experienced in three-plus decades and discuss what the future may hold.
Q: Howard, you have been at the forefront of Business Intelligence literally since the creation of the concept, have been a BI practitioner and a thought leader and witnessed extraordinary change over that time. What is your take on the evolution of BI tool, technology, solutions and where is the market headed next?
A: Ultimately, we’re headed to what I call “information democracy” where all stakeholders have access to timely, relevant and actionable insights. While most people get hung up on tools – and there are some impressive ones – we still have the majority of users without access to actionable insight.
Q: I recently had the opportunity to interview Scott Brinker, VP of Platform Ecosystem at Hubspot and the “father” of Marketing Technology (MarTech) – Scott spoke about the phenomenon where software companies are incorporating services and services companies are incorporating software to redefine core concept of solutions.  How do you see that impacting the Business Intelligence marketplace and how we define BI solutions?
A: I haven’t observed many/any software companies that want to venture into the services business. That said, many/most are concerned with customer success. So, having some services capability is key. Conversely, many/most services organizations seek higher margin businesses – like software. In the BI space, System Integrators (SIs) will leverage off-the-shelf software but also develop some of their own “added value” supporting higher margins.
Q: We often segment the success of customers in a market as “leaders, laggards and those in the middle”. What are some characteristics of leaders in BI today and what differentiates them from the other groups? Are their key technologies and best practices those in the middle can implement to step up and become leaders?
A: Technology does not define leadership in this space. What makes a difference is having a vision at the most senior levels for how information and insight are used to help align stakeholders with the strategy and mission of the organization. And, while technology is important, it serves as an enabler for a more evolved and visionary organization.
Q: Both of us have lived through major technology changers and paradigm shifts – PCs, client/server, networked business solutions, the rise of the packaged software/ISV industry and much more. How does the rise of cloud solutions and SaaS and “everything as a service” (XaaS) impact and define the future of BI?
A: We’ve been tracking the cloud and SaaS phenomenon for a decade and have seen it go from nascent to mainstream. However, conceptually, it’s not new. Many years ago, there was something called “timeshare” which offered similar benefits: no on-premises systems or software, and, with managed services, there was no need for technical staff. This made solutions affordable for many more organizations like Small and Midsize Enterprises (SMEs). Certainly, technology has advanced since that time. However, conceptually they are quite similar.
Q: Do you see skills gaps in today’s BI marketplace, and if so, what are they? As the recent global COVID19 pandemic has dramatically accelerated digital transformation, what has its impact been upon the BI marketplace and how will the landscape change?
A: As more people have access to business intelligence/analytics, data literacy has not kept pace. Again, technology and tools alone won’t move an organization forward. People have to gain insight and execute based on that insight. However, most organizations report only modest data literacy. To be fully successful, organizations should establish a mandatory data literacy program – to establish basic data fluency all the way to sophisticated data science skills.
Regarding Covid-19, we’ve been tracking its business impact since early this year. And, in fact, our survey will remain open until the pandemic ends at covidbusinessimpact.com. As a result of the pandemic we’re seeing greater demand for data-driven insights than ever before. Anecdotally, I’ve been told that BI projects that struggled for funding in the past are now getting funded and have greater urgency than before. In addition, organizations are focused on greater self-service, collaboration, governance and cloud-based delivery – all of this with an eye to enabling the digital enterprise.
