-OCD is not a synonym for neat or preoccupied with tidiness. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is all about distressing intrusive thoughts and rituals (compulsions) used to combat those thoughts.

-Intrusive thoughts are not synonymous with silly things I want to do. They're deeply upsetting, often taboo mental apparitions. Letting them win is the last thing anyone wants, and nobody is immoral for having them. (See 'impulsive thoughts' if you need a term.)

-Anorexic is not a synonym for thin or emaciated. The majority of anorexic people have OSFED atypical anorexia – that is, their BMI is above 18.5. You cannot judge the severity of someone's illness by their appearance. (If you're worried about someone, look out more for rapid weight loss than thinness, even when it's occurring in someone in a larger body. 10kg in 10 weeks is never a good thing.)

-Eating disorders are not synonymous with just anorexia and bulimia. Anorexia is an ED, but it's nowhere near the most common. Bulimia is an ED, but again, not the most common. Together, they do not constitute the most common. The most common ED is binge-eating disorder, and the second most common is atypical anorexia, which is one of many, many OSFED categories. Those living with ARFID, pica, night-eating syndrome, rumination disorder, subthreshold BN, subthreshold BED, and orthorexia all deserve dignity, compassion, and acknowledgement. Remember: EDs are not necessarily thin, and never glamorous.

-Schizophrenic is not a synonym of all over the place, abnormal, unpredictable, dangerous, or crazy. Nor is schizoid or schizotypal. Folks with schizophrenia spectrum disorders live with hallucinations, delusions, disorganised thoughts/behaviour, and/or catatonia. They are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators, and go to huge lengths to act okay even when distressed by symptoms.

-Schizophrenic is also not a synonym of multiple personalities/volatile. For the disorder involving having different facets of personality that are generally unaware of each other, see Dissociative Identity Disorder, and even then, don't assume it's a) dramatic as it is in the movies; b) evil; or c) trivial. DID is a trauma disorder.

-Delusional is not a synonym of wrong. Nor is it the same as this politician/friend is saying something I do not like/that is potentially dangerous. Delusions are false, fixed beliefs held despite evidence. And generally, folks with delusions don't tend to proselytise them. I know that certain politicians have beliefs that seem to persist in the face of evidence, but nevertheless, we don't need to stigmatise mental illness further to call out poor political/social behaviour. If you need a word for the pundit spewing potentially dangerous content, use 'dangerous' or 'wrong', but don't call them delusional.

-Bipolar is not a synonym of all over the place or fluctuating results. Bipolar disorder involves mood states that, even in the rapid cycling form, tend to last at least 3-4 days (mania) and weeks (depression). If you need a word for the weather, use 'British' instead.

-Psychotic is not a synonym of evil. Psychosis is losing touch with reality, whether it be through hallucinations or delusions. It doesn't make a person bad or violent. It's just a neurological phenomenon that may be distressing. It's also relatively common: 6-15% of people will hallucinate in their lifetime.

-ADHD is not a synonym of just quirky/scattered/forgetful/unfocussed/lazy/careless. ADHD is fundamentally a disorder of being able to choose where to direct attention, rather than of just I can't focus. If someone can't tune out the noise of the crowd, but can't prevent themself focussing on something trivial because their brain is wired that way, it's not laziness or just being quirky/scattered.

-Autistic meltdown is not a synonym of temper tantrum.

-Borderline is not a synonym of harridan.

-Narcissist is not a synonym of abuser.

-Mentally ill is not a synonym of volatile or bad person. This doesn't mean we have to make something artificially positive out of mental disorders. If there is good to be found in certain disorders, great; if there is nothing positive about living with certain others, that doesn't make you any less real or resilient than anyone else. It's okay to have complex feelings about your own disorders. It's okay to feel exhausted or frustrated by a disorder. But never should anyone have to face stigma.

AK!Jonathan has an open bite, a type of malocclusion which causes a gap between the top and bottom rows of teeth when your jaw is fully closed. It's why you can see his crooked, crowded lower teeth so well.

His BMI is 19 when you punch his height and weight (6'0" and 140lbs) into a calculator, putting him in the low end of what is considered a healthy weight for an adult (below 18.5 is considered underweight). While BMI can be inaccurate due to many factors, I think in his case it's a fair assessment.

We get a glimpse of the Croc damage on his right arm at times. Some scars have evidence of stitching and others were left to heal on their own which resulted in heavy scarring. Perhaps the latter scars were too deep/wide? Or had been stitched but got infected so were opened to drain and heal? A few ways to headcanon that.

Rediscovered Rembrandt Valued at $15,000 Could Now be Worth 18M

A painting valued at $15,000 just two years ago is now expected to fetch up to $18 million at auction after being identified as the work of the Dutch master Rembrandt.

“The Adoration of the Kings” has been virtually unseen since the 1950s, when it first came to light.

It was acquired by collector J.C.H. Heldring in Amsterdam in 1955. His widow sold it to a German family in 1985, where it remained until it was sold by Christie’s in Amsterdam two years ago.

At the time of the sale, Christie’s attributed the biblical scene to the “Circle of Rembrandt,” suggesting it had been carried out by a student or an artist close to the famous painter, and estimated its value at between €10,000 and €15,000 ($10,600-$15,800). The monochromatic painting, which measures 9.6 x 7.3 inches (24.5 x 18.5 centimeters), was purchased by an anonymous buyer for €860,000 ($908,000) at the Christie’s sale.

Although that was more than 50 times the painting’s estimated value at the time, it is now expected to fetch millions more, after emerging as “a work of great significance” by the Dutch painter, according to a press release from Sotheby’s.

After the anonymous buyer consigned it to Sotheby’s, the auction house embarked on an 18-month research project to arrive at the painting’s true attribution and value.

The examination, which involved x-rays and infrared imaging, as well as intensive discussions with leading Rembrandt scholars, led Sotheby’s to conclude the painting is “an autograph work by Rembrandt.” It now values the work at between £10 million and £15 million ($12.2 million-$18.3 million).

The auction house believes it was painted early in Rembrandt’s career, around 1628, when he would have been about 22 and living in the Dutch city of Leiden.

A rare find

The vast majority of Rembrandt’s works hang in museums around the world, and almost all of those that have come to auction over the past three decades “have been portraits or studies of single character heads,” according to the Sotheby’s release.

As such, “The Adoration of the Kings,” which depicts the encounter between the Three Wise Men and the baby Jesus, is a “fantastic opportunity” in the art world, George Gordon, co-chairman of Old Master Paintings Worldwide at Sotheby’s.

In a phone call, he said: “I would say that it’s particularly significant because it adds to our understanding of Rembrandt at this crucial date in his development and career, when he was clearly very ambitious and developing very quickly as an artist.”

The earliest reference to the painting appears to be from the 1714 inventory of a collector in Amsterdam, Constantijn Ranst. It was then offered for sale in 1814 and again in 1822 – after which it disappeared from view until the mid-20th century.

It was included in museum exhibitions and referenced as a Rembrandt work by leading Rembrandt scholars in the 1950s, but in 1960 German art historian Kurt Bauch, who only knew the painting from a black and white photograph, described it as a product of the Rembrandt School and omitted it from from the catalogue raisonné he was compiling. Thereafter, the painting was “entirely overlooked and completely ignored in the Rembrandt literature,” according to Sothebys.

Gordon sad that those bidding at the Christie’s auction in 2021 “must have thought it was much better than the description and that it might well be a Rembrandt.”

Sotheby’s close examination revealed a number of changes and revisions that Rembrandt made, including to the baby Jesus’ halo and the Virgin Mary’s headdress, according to the auction house.

“Very few narrative paintings by Rembrandt remain in private hands, making this an opportunity for a private collector or an institution that is as rare as it is exciting,” Gordon said in the news release.

“This sophisticated painting is in equal measure a product of Rembrandt’s brush and his intellect. All the hallmarks of his style in the late 1620s are evident both in the visible painted surface and in the underlying layers revealed by science, showing multiple changes in the course of its creation, and casting fresh light on how he thought,” he added.

This is pretty cool. I mean, I realize it’s a drop in the bucket, and probably also means a hefty tax deduction for the family that made the donation. But nonetheless, it’s still cool.

Even if it’s done for tax reasons and/or PR, it’s still an objectively good thing that has just happened. Both for the environment and for Canada’s indigenous peoples. I hope the good publicity means other people are inspired to make similar things happen again in future.

The article I was reading right before the one linked above was about how the Gulf Stream is probably in the process of collapsing. Due to evidence from ice cores etc, scientists know it’s collapsed before. Spoiler alert: bad shit happened after. But it hasn’t collapsed before within human history. That article scared the shit out of me. So it was nice to read an antidote to it, something about positive changes people are making.

Not that a small wetlands donation will fix the problem with the Gulf Stream, but I’ll take all the positive news about the future that I can get.

Damn, I devoutly wish my sister didn’t have kids. I mean, obviously, I don’t want other people’s kids growing up on a planet that’s on fire either. But it’s a lot more intense when they’re family. I can’t shrug my shoulders and hope the worst of the climate disasters hold off for a few decades until I’m dead or have advanced dementia and am in no position to care about climate change.

Please note I’ve voted for, volunteered for, and donated money to environmental causes since long before my nieces were born. Team decession

Our initial team selection was the Coffee Jelly product because it was both inexpensive and delicious. We begin by introducing our business concept to others on campus before getting started. Since the product is still relatively unknown, some of us intend to start by introducing it to our friends and classmates. After introducing it to our constituents, some claim that expanding our line of coffee items will improve our business by giving us more exposures and revenue.

After deliberating, we ultimately decided to include iced coffee products in our business proposal and sought feedback from other CMU students. The strategies worked out as expected, and the intended market is interested in the coffee jelly and iced coffee businesses. Our business wants to meet our customers' cravings for delectable dishes and give them a healthy delight at a low cost. As expected our valued customers are the students, faculty, teachers, and staff. We will truly value each of them. We aim substantial and ethical earnings, sufficient to maintain the team's long-term financial stability.

Lesson learned

I learned that putting up a business wasn't that easy as one two three, it's a matter of courage, perseverance and dedication to make it possible to happen. And as one of the members I've learned a lot during that time. Being an entrepreneur is like planting a tree in a dessert which was very an hopeful that it well grow as we expected because we all know that there is only small hope that it well grow and last but as an entrepreneur well do everything that make our hopes come true. Because who knows what well happen, we can't judge what are the future holds . All we can do is staying positive as always , just focus on what we're doing and don't let someone be a hindrance of our success .

Growing a business is a wonderful yet incredibly difficult job. Effect of Size on the Catwalk:

 Despite pushes for greater body size inclusivity, fashion models (particularly those who do runway work) remain overwhelmingly thin, often dangerously so.

Much study has been conducted to determine how much exposure to photographs of these ultra-thin models relates to body image issues or eating disorder symptoms in women. Less research has been done on how modeling's expectations for extreme thinness impact the incidence of eating disorders among women who work in the business. According to new research published in The European Eating Disorders Review, despite recent efforts to curb the employment of dangerously thin models, a large number of professional models are extremely thin. However, only a fraction of these models report participating in eating-disordered behaviours at a high degree. Fashion models are frequently pressured to reduce weight or maintain an abnormally low weight. These expectations are commonly made by agencies and designers, who emphasise that having an extremely slender figure is both necessary for getting employed and necessary for fitting into the tiny sizes generally offered for runway presentations. In a recent study done by a team of academics in Hungary, roughly 200 models, all of whom were women, from 36 different countries took an online survey concerning eating disordered beliefs and behaviours. They were paired with a group of similarly aged women who were not interested in modelling. The poll was circulated through fashion models' social networks and by numerous non-profit organisations that seek to safeguard models.

Overall, the researchers discovered that the fashion models were extremely skinny. Approximately 45 percent had BMIs ranging from 17 to 18.5; an additional 21 percent had BMIs below 17, which is considered very underweight. In comparison, just 4% of women in the non-model group had BMIs under 17. In terms of simulated diagnoses, 4% of the models fulfilled anorexia criteria, with an additional 15% fulfilling subclinical anorexia criteria. The increased incidence of both full syndrome and partial syndrome anorexia persisted even when the researchers statistically controlled for the fact that models were taller and thinner than non-model women. Bulimia was less common among the models, with around 2 percent meeting the full criteria and 6 percent in the subthreshold category for bulimia. Overall, bulimia was not more common in the group of models compared to the non-models. Extreme thinness is a diagnostic sign for anorexia, but not for bulimia or binge eating disorder, which were not investigated in this study due to its narrow scope. Those who have anorexia symptoms but are not underweight are typically diagnosed with a "other specified" type of anorexia, often known as "atypical anorexia." While the fashion industry is clearly at blame for encouraging harmful levels of thinness in women, eating disorders are not restricted to the underweight.

In summary, this study indicates that fashion models are significantly thinner than age-matched women and are frequently dangerously underweight. These findings also add credence to the widely held belief that merely becoming a fashion model increases the likelihood of anorexia. Will fashion firms ever accept a broader range of body shapes on the runway? The evidence is conflicting. The most recent New York Fashion Week included 48 plus-size models, compared to only six plus-size models in the autumn of 2021. However, when it comes to the top fashion labels, models continue to be extremely slim.
