So the positive attention I've gotten for my TBHK fic idea of an exorcist!Aoi has kept it in my head and although I'm not going to write the full thing until the manga is over (I've already changed so much from the first fic I posted on AO3 almost two years ago because of stuff revealed in the manga) but I'm sort of obsessed with my character dynamics I've created for Aoi, Akane, and Teru so I'm going to discuss them here using those fun ship dynamic pictures. I will also probably post more fics focusing on their relationships with each other as well as other characters because character writing is one of my favorite things which is why my NaNoWriMo project is focusing on worldbuilding.

Some backstory: Aoi and Teru have known each other since they were really little and are WlW MlM solidarity and hostility at the same time.

When Akane comes into the mix when he becomes part supernatural, things differ significantly from manga canon because Aoi isn't going to let Akane flounder in this new world and so comes clean about everything, leading to a dynamic that is healthier because they are honest to each other now and Akane isn't continually confessing to Aoi because he realizes that she isn't going to love him back the way he loves her and his feelings for her slowly fade. It is also unhealthy in a different way because now they are codependent and possessive of each other. It's fun. Teru thinks it's fun, anyway, and pokes at it constantly.

Anyway, because Akane now knows that Aoi is an exorcist, he insists on helping her with exorcisms and refuses the glasses Teru offers him. The three of them begin to regularly work together and it brings them closer with each other.

It's very awkward having a British student in my class who is unapologetically pro-monarch. When asked by my chorale teacher what exactly the Queen symbolized, she said that she united everyone in the UK, no matter their political beliefs.

As she's a tiny freshman on a completely different continent, I was nice enough not to point her to tumblr to show her all the people in the UK who are celebrating her death.

So... Latest JSHK chapter...

Obviously we're all very upset about Teru. He cares so much for his brother and they're both so traumatized and, regardless of how he treats supernaturals, he did just push his brother out of danger and Did Not Deserve That.

But, also, why does Number Six suddenly have an accent?

Did he have an accent in earlier chapters? Is this just a weird thing in the translation I'm reading?

Also, sad that Aoi had no lines in this chapter. Let her speak, Aodairo!!!

I'm honestly shocked how many people don't realize that Helio and Medea kissing isn't an endorsement of their relationship. It's very clear that their relationship isn't healthy and that Medea doesn't care for Helio the same way he cares for her. I mean, when he asks "to console her", she doesn't give an enthusiastic "yes" or even a tepid "sure". She pauses and then says, "If you'd like." She doesn't ask for it.

To be clear, I'm not saying that Helio is taking advantage of Medea like some other people are saying. I think it's honestly the other way around. Medea knows he loves/worships her and indulges his eccentricities, even if it sort of annoys her (like when she repeated called him clingy), because it allows her to keep him under her thumb.

The major difference between Medea and Eros is that she feels guilty about using Helio like this, unlike how Eros feels about using Psyche (or literally anyone else because he's insane).

Medea legitimately cares for Helio. Just not as much as he cares for her.

Present Day

Liam carefully opens his irritated eyes. Holding his aching head, he peers through his fingers, taking in the disarray of his wife’s hospital room. Empty syringes and medicine vials litter the floor.  Furniture is tossed chaotically against the wall. Bags of fluid and blood that were once feeding into Riley’s veins now hang desolate in the air on metal poles.  In the darkness, it looks like a post-apocalyptic scene from a horror movie.

It has been almost two days since King Liam's aircraft was savagely shot down off the coast of Tunisia, approximately two-hundred twenty kilometers southwest of Malta.  Rescue efforts were made by both Tunisian and Italian officials, Cordonia joining them the next morning, but gravely, only remnants remained of the plane. A harmonious chorus of early morning robins resound across the sleepy Cordonian countryside. The brilliance of the new-day sun remains hidden under the horizon; however, the sky splashes with vibrant hues of violet and indigo in anticipation of its grand arrival.

The fresh scent of the springtime gardenias wafts gently with the cool breeze into the bedroom suite. With the tickle of pollen on his nose, Liam quickly stirs from his deep slumber, absentmindedly scratching his face. He then allows his entire body to grow rigid, stretching out the tightened muscles of his physique, his feet falling off the edge of the bed: one of the sacrifices he makes staying over at her place.

Blinking his eyes awake, they carefully adjust to the various shapes of the darkened room, his favorite laying mere inches away from his own exposed figure. And he smiles. The slope of her bare hips, her perfectly tossed lavender-scented waves, even the melodic hum of her tiny snore: Liam is completely helpless, completely captivated with his girlfriend Riley Brooks.

Sigyn Meta: Who is Sigyn?

A Norse Goddess who is known for being the wife of the Trickster, Loki, and holding the bowl to protect him from the snake’s venom. 

But besides that, Who is Sigyn? What does she mean to others? 

Journey with me as we explore who she is -- not only in the mythologies, but in other forms like the Marvel Comics, Worship and through fans.

Sigyn’s Origins (Mythology):

Sadly, not many stories that have Sigyn in them have survived till today. She is only attested in the following works: Poetic Edda & Prose Edda. 

In the poem, Lokasenna, the most famous of poem’s with the couple, it talks of how Loki has been bound by the gods with the guts of his son, Nari, and how his son, Vari, has been turned into a wolf. The Goddess Skadi fastens a venomous snake over Loki’s face, from which venom drips. Sigyn, stated as Loki’s wife, stays by his side and holds a basin under and catches the venom so it won’t drip onto her husband, but when the basin grows full, she pulls it away to empty it, during which time venom drops onto Loki, causing him to wither so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.

In the poem, Gylfaginning, Sigyn is introduced in Chapter 31 as being married to Loki and that they have a son by the name of “Narfi or Nari”. She is then mentioned again in Chapter 50 where events are described differently than in Lokasenna; Vali, described as a son of Loki only, is changed into a wolf by the gods and rips apart his brother, “Narfi or Nari.” The guts of Nari are then used to tie Loki to three stones, after which the guts turn to iron, and Skadi places a snake above Loki. Sigyn of course catches the venom in a bowl. This process is repeated until he breaks free, setting Ragnarok into motion.

In the poem, Skáldskaparmál, Sigyn is introduced as a goddess, an Æsir, where the gods are holding a feast for their visitors and in kennings for Loki: “husband of Sigyn” and “cargo [Loki] of incantation-fetter’s [Sigyn’s] arms.” 

Sigyn’s name means “Victorious-Girlfriend” in Old Norse. 

Sigyn may appear on the Gosforth Cross and has been the subject of an amount of theory and cultural references.

She appears in the 9th century skaldic poem Haustlöng from pagan times, written by the skald Þjóðólfr of Hvinir. Due to this early connection with Loki, Sigyn has been theorized as being a goddess dating back to an older form of Germanic paganism.

Sigyn in Worship/Honor: 

I’ll be speaking on this through my personal experience of working with Sigyn while also sharing some tid bits of basic info from others on this subject. I’m someone who works with Sigyn primarily, but sometimes gets help from Loki.

For those who work with Loki, you will also find yourself working with Sigyn. And sometimes you don’t even need to work with Loki first in order to work with Sigyn (like me!)

Sigyn is usually a calming and motherly presence. Loki is protective over her, but they usually work in unison together to help. 

SMALL DEVOTIONAL ACTS TO SIGYN: 

Holding the Bowl: It is a reflective act of Sigyn holding the bowl to protect Loki from the snake’s venom. This is usually the major one. 

Helping to support mothers (especially single mothers)

Sigyn in the Marvel Comics:

Sadly, Sigyn is not portrayed the best in the Marvel Comics of Thor, resulting in her being missing from the comics since 1996 and practically killed off (only being referenced to in flashbacks.) 

Loki comes across her and desires to have her. However, she is already engaged to an Asgardian named Theoric, who Loki has killed and ends up taking on the disguise of in order to take Sigyn for his own. On their wedding day once the vows are said and done, Sigyn accepts her duty as his wife, granting her the title Goddess of Fidelity by Odin. 

She doesn’t have much of an agency or personality besides being Loki’s faithful wife in this. 

Fans wish for her to make a comeback in the Comics and MCU with better characterization. Hence, much Fanfiction, Cosplay, Roleplay and Fanart has been made of others own interpretation’s of Sigyn and #JusticeforSigyn is shared around in hopes of this.

I’ve decided to compile a comparison for the differences between Sigyn and Loki with Mythology and the Marvel world. I thought this would be a fun and educational thing to do.

Sigyn, stated as Loki’s wife, stays by his side and holds a basin under and catches the venom so it won’t drip onto her husband, but when the basin grows full, she pulls it away to empty it, during which time venom drops onto Loki, causing him to wither so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.

In the poem, Gylfaginning, Sigyn is introduced in Chapter 31 as being married to Loki and that they have a son by the name of “Narfi or Nari”. She is then mentioned again in Chapter 50 where events are described differently than in Lokasenna; Vali, described as a son of Loki only, is changed into a wolf by the gods and rips apart his brother, “Narfi or Nari.” The guts of Nari are then used to tie Loki to three stones, after which the guts turn to iron, and Skadi places a snake above Loki. Sigyn of course catches the venom in a bowl. This process is repeated until he breaks free, setting Ragnarok into motion.

In the poem, Skáldskaparmál, Sigyn is introduced as a goddess, an Æsir, where the gods are holding a feast for their visitors and in kennings for Loki: “husband of Sigyn” and “cargo [Loki] of incantation-fetter’s [Sigyn’s] arms.”  

She also appears in the 9th century skaldic poem Haustlöng from pagan times, written by the skald Þjóðólfr of Hvinir. Due to this early connection with Loki, Sigyn has been theorized as being a goddess dating back to an older form of Germanic paganism!!

Differences between Mythology & Comics Sigyn:

In the comics Sigyn is given the title of Goddess of Fidelity by Odin. In Mythology Sigyn is called a goddess along with other kennings “incantation-fetter” & “beloved of monsters” being a few. We don’t know her exact virtue. 

In the comics supposedly Sigyn is the daughter of Freya, Goddess of Love and Iwaldi, a dwarf from Alfheim and sister to many of Freya’s other daughters by Iwaldi (Nanna, etc.) This makes her a Vanir despite being called an Asgardian Goddess. I’m not sure exactly where this came from if it’s a retcon of the comics or something fanmade. As for mythology, all we know is Sigyn is a member of the Aesir and the wife of Loki. 

Theoric is a construct of the Marvel Comics and was never in the Myth’s.

Differences between Mythology & Comics Loki:

In the comics Loki is the adopted son of Odin and Frigga and Adoptive brother to Thor & Balder. While in Mythology, Loki is implied to be the blood-brother to Odin and Step-Uncle to Thor and Balder. 

In Myth, Hel is Loki’s daughter by Angrboda. In the comics, they retconned her as being called Hela and made her an adoptive sister of Loki’s and daughter of Odin instead. In fact, In the MCU, anything to do with Loki’s children is completely retconned and not mentioned. 

Obviously Loki’s Biological parents were changed around in Marvel with Laufey being his father and Farbauti being his mother when it’s the other way around in the Myth’s. 

In the myths, Loki tricked the dwarves Brokk and Eitri into making Mjolnir for the Aesir by making a bet which resulted in Loki getting his lips sewn shut. While in the comics, Mjolnir was forged in the heart of a dying star.

The Jotun are displayed as Frost Giants in Marvel, but in Mythology they are giants and a member of a race of nature spirits.

On the bad days, when Adrien feels so overwhelmed and helpless and he hates himself and for what he is, Marinette is always there to catch him.

On a particularly bad day, all Adrien can do is fall to his knees and cry and hold onto Marinette like a lifeline, as if she was the only thing anchoring him to reality and keeping his sanity in check.

He would hate himself for not being better, not being good enough, not deserving of anything Marinette gives him, all her love and affection, her time and patience. Anything.

He deserved none of it.

And Marinette would kiss his tears away and smooth back his hair and say: "Did you ever notice how you love me?"

Adrien is confused, his head is pounding from crying, he doesn't know what she means.

So, Marinette shows him.

She shows him the little bulletin board he set up in the living room, with both his and her own schedules, important dates to remember or little day-to-day reminders.

"I'm often so forgetful when I have an ongoing project and that's the only thing I see for the next few weeks, I tended to forget to grab things for work, but you always post these reminders so I don't forget anything important."

Marinette moves to the kitchen, she opens the fridge. "You always pack me lunch and breakfast if I forget to eat in the morning. I never go hungry anymore at work thanks to your lunch boxes." She smiled so brilliantly, Adrien could've mistook her for the sun. "You learned to cook so many dishes, to balance me out, all I can do is bake, but you can cook better than Alya's mom."

Adrien felt giddiness fill his chest, a soothing warmth that always swelled up whenever Marinette complimented him.

Marinette walked over to Adrien and fell on her knees beside him, cradling his face like it was the most precious porcelain in the world. "You do chores a lot more than me, while I take naps during the day you make sure the house is clean and wash my clothes, you make sure to air out my work room so it isn't stuffy. You massage my feet and hands when I'm exhausted from work or bandage my fingers if I pick myself with the needles. You model my designs for me even after you had a long day at work and want nothing more than to sleep. You immediately go to the store if I crave something we don't have in the kitchen." Marinette's thumb brushed across her husband's cheek tenderly, wiping away the remainders of tears.

She kissed his forehead sweetly and Adrien sniffled, overwhelmed with emotion. "Whenever you do all these things for me, you never look tired at all. So let me do things for you too kitty, let me be there for you as you are to me. Let me love you like you love me too."

Fresh tears filled Adrien's eyes and he hugged his wife again, this time not out of his own self-loathing but his overwhelming love for her that threatened to consume him.

True Love - Chapter 3

Something I published on my Wattpad account a few years ago, and now I've reworked and am publishing here.

Imagine :

She - a 23 year old girl who loves freedom and a man who will never be hers.

He - a 47 year old actor with a life that is not quite in order.

What happens when he realizes he has the diamond under his nose that he's been looking for all his life.

Pov Olivia

- Why did you take such a strange leave of absence? - Magda leaned out from behind the monitor.

- What do you mean? - I furrowed my eyebrows.

- Thursday is your last day at work, why not from Monday? - She was tapping her pen on the desk.

- Because on Friday I have a flight from Cracow to Chicago at 12:05, where I have to wait until 19:35 to fly to San Diego. There I am at 9:47 p.m., then back to my hotel and in the morning at Comic-Con.

- Well, that's logical - she smiled and returned to her seat.

- Yup - I nodded my head.

Friday 11:00 am

I sat quietly in the waiting room, pulled out my phone and turned on Whatsapp and a new message to Jeffrey. ( Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

💬 To Jeff : I am at the airport flying out in an hour, around 10:30 in the evening I should be at the hotel.

I scraped out a message to him and before I could put my phone in my pocket a reply came.

📲 From Jeff : Bubba is not expecting anything, he walks like a nailed dog even I feel a little sorry for him.

💬To Jeff : Just not a word, he wants him to have a surprise, calm him down a bit. I know you can!

📲 From Jeff : As always! I love you horrible woman ! 💙

I laughed under my breath, put my phone in my pocket and headed to check-in after just a few minutes. Just to sit on the plane at 12. I had some time to sleep, put my headphones in my ears and drifted off. Nice lady stewardess woke me up before landing in Chicago. There I bought American phone card and went for a decent meal.

Pov Jeffrey

I looked over at Norman who was standing on the terrace smoking a cigarette. His thoughts kept running to Olivia, I could see it in his eyes. He was sad or maybe angry that she didn't want to see him. Sometimes it was hard to judge him, he rarely showed his true emotions. But his eyes betrayed him, and very often. I walked out to him and leaned my back against the railing.

- Dude don't worry so much - I looked at him.

- I'm not worried - he muttered under his breath and shrugged his shoulders.

- I can just see how you are not worried - I smiled widely.

- I don't understand why he doesn't want to come. We meet every year, every year we spend three weeks together, and this year she is somehow different.

- Maybe she fell in love and her partner doesn't approve - I lit a cigarette.

- I want her to fall in love, I want her to be happy, but I don't want a partner who forbids us to see each other. Who is this guy?

- Norman - I groaned - maybe he is jealous of you, look at yourself.

- I'm nothing special - he put out his cigarette - I'm going to bed.

I wanted to tell him that she would soon be in the same hotel as us but I promised to keep it to myself. At 10:30 I got a message.

📲Of Oli: I'm at the hotel, room 313.

💬 To Ola : I'm in 5 minutes.

He put the phone in his pocket and I put on my leather jacket.

- Bubba I'm leaving, I'll be back in a while - I shouted towards Norman's bedroom.

But no one answered me, Norman was probably either taking a shower or already asleep. I sighed and went to room 313. I knocked twice on the door and heard muffled footsteps and after a few seconds the door opened. Standing in it was Olivia, her blue hair flowing loosely over her shoulders. She was wearing a loose hoodie and tight jeans.

- Hey - she smiled tiredly.

- Hey baby - I took a step and hugged her tightly.

She cuddled into my body and a tired sigh came out of her mouth. I kissed her head and rubbed her back with my hands.

- Tired ? - I moved away slightly.

- A little - she breathed - Would you like something to drink?

- Maybe a quick drink? - I smiled widely.

- Fine - she nodded and moved towards the bar.

- Honey, you look good - I took off my jacket and threw it on the back of the sofa.

- What do you mean? - She opened the bottle of whisky.

- You just look good even though you still wear those baggy sweatshirts - I watched her movements.

- They're just comfortable and I don't have to bother choosing accessories. And I really don't feel like it lately - she sat down next to me with two glasses.

- Did something happen? - I took the glass from her and furrowed my eyebrows.

- Well, my ex turned out to be a dick and that's all - she shrugged her shoulders.

She leaned her elbows on her knees and drank the liquid from the glass in one gulp. I looked at the profile of her face, she didn't even wrinkle her eyebrows.

- Are you back to drinking? - I leaned towards her.

- Can we not talk about this now? I'm here for the first day and you're already doing my fucking interrogation - she looked at me.

- But promise me we'll come back to this conversation?

- I promise if you don't say anything to Norman - she stared into my eyes.

- I won't say a fucking word to him - I smiled slightly.

- Then we'll go back to this conversation - she nodded - how is he?

- He sulks like a teenager - I laughed.

- He hasn't replied to any of my messages, he's probably angry with me.

- I bet that when he sees you tomorrow all his anger will be gone - I kissed her on the temple - you know how he is when something doesn't go his way. And he really missed you and he's sorry.

Olivia took a breath and sank deeper into the couch.

- Hey - I poked her - don't pout yet you know that if you make puppy dog eyes he is able to forgive everything.

- I hope so - she smiled uncertainly.

- You know that if you make puppy dog eyes, he will be able to forgive everything - she smiled uncertainly - After all, he loves you - I poked her - and he can't stay mad at you for too long.

Olivia looked at me and I saw a blush on her cheeks. She set her glass down on the coffee table and snuggled into my side.

- I missed you, old man -  she whispered.

- I missed you too girl - I put my arm around her.

Her head was resting under my chin, Olivia may not look like a woman we were used to. She wasn't skinny, she wasn't tall but her character made up for all her flaws. A person stops noticing her larger body stature after getting to know her. But she had one flaw, she was morbidly shy and that is why many people abandoned her. I got close to her only last year and only then I realized how big heart she has. And I want to keep her close because it's really worth it. I glanced at her, her eyes were closed and her breathing was steady. As she fell asleep, I gently pushed her away from me. I set the glass down and took her hands in mine wedding style. I headed to the bedroom, planted her on the bed holding her with my hands. I took off her sweatshirt, socks and pants, laid her on the bed and covered her with blankets.

- Sleep dear - I kissed her forehead and left her room.

I closed the door behind me and went to my room.

Pov Olivia

When I awoke to the sound of the alarm clock. I wiped my face with my hands and looked around the room. I was lying in bed in the bedroom of my rented apartment. I hit the phone and the alarm finally went off. I groaned wiping my face with my palms, I must have been drowsy last night. I threw my legs off the bed and pulled hard. I picked my phone up off the ground and opened a new message from Jeff.

📲 From Jeff : Remember that at 3 in the afternoon is our show, remember not to be late lazy !

I locked my device and shook my head. This man was impossible but that's what I loved him for. For the fact that he could listen, that he had more experience in life and could share it. He was different than Norman but after all, no two people are alike. Grabbed my phone and opened a new message to Jeff.

💬To Jeff : I hope your old bones didn't suffer when you carried me to bed.💙 Thank you, I'm not late, I'm never late.

I put my phone down on the bedside table, grabbed my clothes and headed to the shower. I had to prepare myself properly to greet my long lost friend.

I looked at myself in the mirror. I was always careful about what I wore, I had to mask my excess weight somehow. I combed my hair and dried it into a bun.

Just a quick breakfast and I was ready to go. I took an Uber and after just a few minutes I found myself in front of the San Diego Convention Center. Thanks to Jeffrey's kindness I had VIP ticket so I could enter everywhere. Therefore, I went to the hall out of turn, hung around my neck badge with name and level of availability. The first thing that caught my eye was the amount of people dressed up. Cosplay was ubiquitous here, I slipped my glasses over my hair and admired their creators. People were really imaginative and I stopped at one or three stalls to buy some interesting things. Eventually I got to the place where The Walking Dead actors were, I kept my distance so none of them would recognize me. No one knew I was here, except Jeffrey of course. I watched Norman interact with the fans, his face lit up with a smile from ear to ear. He was snapping pictures with them, signing T-shirts and many other things. I smiled to myself, I loved how open he was with his fans. I took a breather and wandered around the neighborhood and at 2:30 I was already sitting in my seat in the hall where the conference was to be held.

I smiled under my breath, at exactly three o'clock the host started her show. She was smiling all the time under her breath, my hands started sweating strangely, I rubbed them on my pants. The first to enter was the director, then Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and finally Norman Reedus, followed of course by the rest of the crew. I had the impression that Jeffrey immediately sought me out with his eyes. He smiled broadly and nodded slightly. I smiled back and also nodded slightly. Jeffrey looked up at me every now and then smiling. Halfway through the performance Jeffrey poked Lincoln and whispered something in his ear. Andrew lifted his head and looked around the front rows and a wide grin appeared on his lips from ear to ear. Lincoln slaps Norman hard on the shoulder, the man crouches down and mutters something under his breath. Andrew leans into his ear and whispers something. And his body tense up, he slides his hat down over his face and shifts his gaze around the audience. His eyes stopped on me, smiling broadly. Eventually, he smiled too.

Andrew watched his friend's reaction, smiling slightly. Norman pulled out his phone, and moments later mine vibrated in his pocket.

Before I get to my answer, let me recommend checking out an answer about MGS’s possible role in the band by @casually-inlove. It was an interesting read and makes good points.

You’re right that JY said they would have just the right number of members for guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums (ch. 310):

To be honest, the keyboard is what kind of throws me on that list. For some reason, I can’t comfortably picture any of the boys behind a keyboard...keyboarding away. 😅 But let’s see what the comic itself suggests their respective instruments will be.

Jian Yi - guitar/bass?

So far, it seems JY will play the guitar (ch. 304, 311):

Though, it’s a bit unclear to me what kind of guitar JY ended up getting from the store that tried to swindle him and ZZX. Because it seemed to me like JY was trying out acoustic guitars, and we haven’t seen him with the actual instrument (just carrying it in its case) after that. How would an acoustic work in a band?

Then again, in one official illustration JY was carrying what looked like a red electric guitar (or a bass?):

But that’s a fairly old illustration, so I’m not sure how accurate it is anymore.

I suppose it’s also possible he could have gotten a bass? I’m not familiar enough with guitar and bass to really say which one would be easier for a beginner. I guess it depends on what kind of music the band will play.

But I somehow picture JY with a guitar, not a bass. In my head, the guitar would fit his carefree spirit and allow him to mess up and play more freely. As far as I’ve understood, bass needs to be more “steady” because it’s essential in keeping up the rhythm and tempo.

I’m also wondering if the band will have vocals. Because in some translations of chapter 309, JY is dreaming about “singing stardom” and in @yaoi-blcd‘s translation, he’s talking about “stardom”. Can JY sing, though? Would they do cover songs? Write their own lyrics? [19 Days meets Given?!]

MGS - bass/guitar?

I think MGS is another member whose instrument seems to have been “locked down” by the comic. We haven’t seen him try playing yet, but HT is determined to teach him to play and give him a guitar, and it seems MGS still has it in the future chapters (ch.307, 313, 322):

In my head, the bass would fit MGS. I would imagine MGS doesn’t want to be as front and center as JY and he has that energy that he’s good at giving structure, if that makes sense. Rhythm and tempo is the base for everything and it also leads. I think MGS would be fitting for that role. I can already see him screaming at JY for messing up the tempo.

I think drums would also fit MGS but HT teaching MGS to play the guitar sounds better than teaching him to play the drums. It’s more intimate and romantic.

ZZX - drums?

So far, we haven’t really seen ZZX trying out any instrument. However, he’s been featured holding drum sticks in a couple of official illustrations, so I suppose that settles it:

Just like I think playing the bass fits MGS, I would say drums are pretty fitting for ZZX, too. The foundation that is strong and supportive but kind of in the background. I also have this image in my head of ZZX watching JY have a good time and being his usual joyful self and he smiles a little by himself at JY dazzling.

HT - ...keyboard? guitar?

This is where I end up with the keyboard. To be honest, I wish the story would forget about the keyboard. As far as HT is concerned, I would much rather go with this:

Since HT is already working hard so he can teach MGS the guitar, I think he might as well play one himself, too. I also think an electric guitar would fit HT’s character far more than a keyboard. It has that sexy, cool energy with a hint of excitement and danger that I think HT has. But again, that is an older illustration, so I’m not sure how well that is still in line with how the comic will proceed.

There is no word “subfluence,” or only barely one. This started with the self-written biographical note of poet Jack Hirschman, in A Caterpillar Anthology (Clayton Eshleman, ed., 1971) —

“They are lyrical poems, in verse or free-form, as distinguished from the poems in this anthology, which are breath forms reflecting a more total slavery to the conditions of the spirit’s war-torn years. The major influences on my works are influence itself, in as many levels of order, disorder, disaster, paranoia, joy and ecstasy as the deathless magic of being alive permits a vessel now of fire, now of air, to spark, glow, flame and ember according to the law of nature.”

“Influence” — that word — led to thinking about variations, e.g., effluence, outfluence, pre-fluence... “subfluence” — an underground stream a less-than fluency (stammering, stuttering) a brittleness?

Little — or nothing — surfaced in a google books search, save for errors — typically a “sub” at the end of one line, a “fluence” at the start of the next (in a different column). Quite enough for present purposes. And so these subfluence derivations are built around a word that isn’t quite a word. Some license has been taken with the text in this post: dispensing ellipsis or [brackets] where text is erased (or rather, dropped); in some instances, some words that preceded the subfluence, are moved to follow it.

And yet, the word does appear, in some (and only a few) geological texts, typically having to do with the geotectonic unterströmungshypothese (undercurrent) concepts — and field work done in the Northern Calcareous Alps — of and by Otto Ampferer (1875-1947). Big disclaimer: In art, the phases of the moon are generally used to convey mood, or for purely aesthetic purposes, rather than as a timekeeping implement. Also, when considering the accuracy of phases of the moon in stories far offset from the modern day, it may be unwise to place specific dates based on the moon, but in Novae, events matched up well enough that I figured I may as well use the moon to help mark time.

Another disclaimer: Specific dates are (generally) arbitrarily chosen by nitpicking the wording characters use so take those with a grain of salt xD The time between the chapters and the general time of year are the parts that I’ve tried to nail down here.

DECEMBER 1672:

Raz is 22 at the start of Novae (character bio), which starts in 1672 (pg 4). 

Novae must start on or after Raziol’s 22nd birthday, specifically December 6, 1672.

During Ch 2, Raziol and Sulvain enjoy a dark, moonless night of stargazing. This puts the phase of the moon sometime between 1st quarter and 3rd quarter, anywhere between the 11th and the 27th of December, 1672. (idk Paris is pretty far north so the moon doesn’t get very high in the sky anyway)

(also for Saturn to be up and Orion mostly upright in December of 1672, that puts the time for night between 10pm and 12am, but that’s nitpicky at best xD)

Raz says he hadn’t changed since last Wednesday (pg 12), so to allow ample time for that and for the phase of the moon to kinda match in Ch 2, we can push the start of Ch1 to the fourth week of December. 

Ch 1 starts at dawn (pgs 1-18) and ends in the late evening/early night of that same day (pgs 19-31). 

Ch 2 starts (pgs 32- 39) in the night of that same day (“The meeting is tonight” from pg 17) goes to midday (idk, the lighting looks midday-ish xD) of the next day (pgs 40-42) to evening (pgs 43-47), and through the night of this second day (pgs 48-66).

Chapters 3 and 4 (pgs 67-142) continue the night of the second day.

So by the end of Chapter 4, Raziol and Sulvain have known each other for less than 48 hours.

Ch 5 pt 1 (pgs 143-164) and Ch 5 pt 2 (pgs 165-1st panel of pg 172) take place a few days after the end of Ch 4 (pg 145) and I’m assuming all in the same day because Raz doesn’t change out of his ink stained shirt. Sulvain asks to borrow Raz for the afternoon (pg 169), and the shadows are pretty long when he leaves the morgue(?) (pg 164) so I’m assuming pt 1 takes place in the morning? Also Jean noticed he was being stalked earlier that morning (pg 148- maybe closer to dawn?). Putting this part close to Christmas but not on Christmas day would explain why the Academy empties out, but why a tailor shop is open in pt 2. (I’m rather hand wavey on this bit but oh well xD)

JANUARY 1673:

Idk maybe they just go on lots of dates and panels 2 and 3 of pg 172 are just one example.

I have a few reasons why I think the last panel on page 172 takes place in February but I’ll get to that.

FEBRUARY 1673:

Raz wears his new overcoat and Sulvain is in an entirely different outfit (last panel of pg 172), so it’s reasonable to assume that a fair amount of time has passed since the tailor took Raziol’s measurements. They spend the day together and we head into the evening (pgs 173 and 174) before Jeans’s death. This is assuming “I’ll see you tomorrow night” (pg 174) refers to the very next night we see Raziol and Sulvain together (pg 175).

“These past couple of weeks” (pg 176) implies they haven’t spent months together yet, so we can’t be much later than February if they met back up at the end of December. The morning that Jean is killed, we can see a waning crescent moon, meaning we’re just a little bit before a new moon. This places Jean’s death in the third week of February 1673.

We see that there is some snowmelt (pgs 172 & 173), but with trees still bare and nights still frigid (Ch 8 & 9), and we also see snowdrops and crocuses blooming together (pg 331), which all together seems to indicate we’re somewhere in early spring, which reinforces my thought that we’re in February. To be fair, from the sources I’ve glanced through, both snowdrops and crocuses can bloom in January, which could bump all of this forward a month, so take that as you will xD

Raziol and Sulvain leave the observatory before dawn after stargazing all night (pg 175 and on) and by the end of Ch 6, the sun has risen (pg 209). 

Ch 5 pt 2 (pgs 175-192) takes place in early pre-dawn hours around mid February 1673.

Ch 6 (pgs 209-219) takes place just after dawn on the same day as pgs 175-192.

The page comments on pg 220 place the start of Ch 7 a few days after the end of Ch 6, likely in the early hours of the morning assuming Raz saw meteors while staying up for Jean’s funeral (pg 266). Over the course of the chapter, the color scheme moves from rosy orange (pgs 224~233) to pale yellow (pgs 235~287, Ève comes in at the start of this) to golden (pg 260~269) as we go from dawn hours to morning.

Ch 7 (pgs 220-269) takes place in the morning, a few days after the end of Ch 6.

Sulvain asks “Tonight?” (pg 264) which indicates that Ch 8 happens the same day as Ch 7

Ch 8 takes place at sundown the same day as Ch 7 (pgs 270-277) until dawn the next morning (pgs 278-313)

Ch 9 takes place on the same day as the end of Ch 8, picking up right around dawn and currently we’re about ~24 hours after the fight with Ève (pgs 314-351)

Ch 10 (thus far) continues the same day of Ch 9 (pgs352-?)

No moon is seen rising or setting, so Ch 7, 8, 9, and 10 might take place on February’s new moon, give or take a day, which fits the waning crescent we see in pg 176.

And there we have it! (so far at least xD)
