VARIATIONS OF THE CAR ENGINE
Tumblr media
There are many variations of the car engine and they all come in various shapes and forms and they all have unique differences. You can  differentiate cars based on layout and engine cylinder configurations. Based on layout, we have;
STRAIGHT ENGINE
Tumblr media
The straight or inline engine is an internal combustion engine with all cylinders aligned in one row. They are usually found in four- and six-cylinder configurations and are considerably easier to build. Straight configurations are simpler than their V-shaped counterparts. They are used in some models from BMW, Ford, Jeep, Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota, Suzuki and Volvo Cars.
INLINE ENGINES
Tumblr media
Cylinders are arranged in a straight row, like a straight engine layout. However, it doesn't go from front to back like a straight engine but the cylinders as being placed 'side by side'. In-line engines are also smaller, thus, It frees up more space around the engine for components like the car battery and cooling system. Cars, light commercial vehicles, medium & heavy commercial vehicles and earth moving equipment widely use this design.
FLAT ENGINES
Tumblr media
It is also referred to as boxers engine. This layout keeps the engine as flat as possible. Thee cylinders are located on either side of a central crankshaft, laid down flat in both directions. This layout keeps the car's centre of gravity low, which then makes it much easier to handle. Cars with this type of engine are 2016 Subaru Outback, Subaru Legacy, 2016 Subaru WRX.
V ENGINES
Tumblr media
  Sometimes called a vee engine. It's cylinders arranged at an angle in a V-shape. Having more power in a smaller area makes the V engine layout ideal for luxury high-performance vehicles. The V type has two rows of cylinders, usually forming an angle of 60° or 90° between the two banks. The more compact V-engine is fitted in some cars, especially vehicles with eight or 12 cylinders, and also some with six cylinders. Cars with this type of engine is, Toyota Camry 3.0L, Mercedes Benz E 400 Cabriolet. Based on engine configuration, they are;
TWIN CYLINDERS
Tumblr media
They are also known as an inline-twin, vertical-twin, or parallel-twin. In this configuration, two cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. 2005 Mazda RX-8 Special Edition, 2012 Fiat 500 Twin Air, Tata Nano, 1974 Mazda RX-3 Super Deluxe.
THREE CYLINDER ENGINE
Tumblr media
A straight-three engine (also called an inline- triple or inline-three) is a three-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. A 3 cylinder engine is much more fuel efficient compared to a 4 cylinder engine of the same size. The straight-three is light on fuel and big on power Cars with the 3 cylinder engine are; Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, BMW i8, Mitsubishi Mirage, Smart Fortwo, Daihatsu Charade.
FOUR CYLINDER ENGINES
Tumblr media
A straight-four engine is a four-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. One advantage of a four-cylinder engine is that it offers a balance between fuel efficiency and power. They work continuously and are extremely refined.. Cars with a 4-Cylinder Engine are, 2014 Toyota Prius, 2016 Honda Accord, 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and lots more.
FIVE CYLINDER ENGINE
Tumblr media
The straight-five engine or inline-five engine is an internal combustion engine with five cylinders aligned in one row or plane, sharing a single engine block and crankcase. A Five-Cylinder Engine as an Economical, Smooth-Running Power Plant. Five-cylinder engines are hard to find in new models these days, except perhaps in a few Audi RS models. Cars that use five cylinder engines are Land Rover Defender, Ford Focus RS, Audi Sport Quattro, Volvo 850R.
SIX CYLINDER ENGINES
Tumblr media
The straight-six engine (also referred to as an inline-six engine; abbreviated I6 or L6) It is an internal combustion engine, with six cylinders mounted in a straight line along the crankcase with all the pistons driving a common crankshaft (straight engine). Cars with six cylinder engines are 2019 Chrysler 300, 2020 Toyota Avalon, 2019 Genesis G80.
EIGHT CYLINDER ENGINE
Tumblr media
An eight-cylinder engine, the V8, is common in pickup trucks, SUVs and sportscars. These engines create a lot of horsepower and torque and are better suited to tow or haul. It usually has between four and six litres of displacement, depending on the size of the eight cylinders within. Foremost, the V-8 operates like any other gasoline-powered four-stroke engine. The higher we go on the number of cylinders, the more high-performance/luxury the cars tend to be. When you cross into 8+ cylinder territory, you'll only find these in racecars, supercars and only the most luxurious of sedans. There are so many variations of car engines, but you have gained a little more knowledge about car engines than before. Reference; HoltsAuto Read the full article

How does the age of a car affect insurance rates?
How does the age of a car affect insurance rates? First, age refers to the amount of time a vehicle is owned. As someone ages, the vehicle becomes more valuable and therefore, more valuable. For example, car insurance for a 25-year-old male in Arizona is about $5,852 per year, while his insurance for a 38-year-old man in California is about $4,941 per year, a mere $66 difference. Age does not always predict whether or not you get the cheapest car insurance rates. For instance, a 30-year-old driver in Florida will pay about $4,904 per year, while a 40-year-old driver in Arizona will pay about $3,750. Car insurance rates are calculated based on risk, so a high risk driver may pay more for insurance than a riskier driver. Age also has an impact on your auto insurance rates. Teen and young adult drivers have much higher car insurance premiums than the average driver. Age is still relatively new at this time.
Other factors that affect car insurance rates
Other factors that affect car insurance rates are: Driving history matters. More than likely than not, new vehicles will be more expensive to insure, but not having a history of accidents and tickets will only increase your insurance rates, because the odds of getting into an accident are relatively high. It just happens that new vehicles are more expensive to insure, even if you don’t have driving records. In addition, some insurers do offer discounts for drivers who can pay their insurance premiums on time. The insurance industry does not want these policies, and most people choose to simply avoid the risk in the first place. As long as you don’t live in a state where your insurance can be denied when registering a new vehicle, your insurance rates will probably not be impacted greatly. If you live in one of the states listed above, you can expect your car insurance rates to be significantly lower if you live in one of these states: Most insurance agencies will ask you to choose a state for the premium you will receive. This is your insurance.

Testing, testing... Autocar‘s top new car reviews of 2020
Whether it's a new trim level, an addition to the engine line-up, a complete overhaul or an entirely new model, if it's new we want to drive it. Against the odds, you might say, 2020 has been a particularly busy year for the Autocar reviews desk, with everything from £300,000 SUVs to hybrid superminis passing under our microscope. It's only been on sale since the start of 2020 but already the Puma is well on its way up the bestsellers list. Clearly, See: bluedriver lsb2 review. Ford's pilfering of a hallowed 1990s nameplate for a Fiesta-based crossover was a canny marketing decision, and you know what? Put the curvy old coupé next to its modern namesake on a particularly bendy bit of road, and the taller car won't embarrass itself half as badly as you might expect. Plus, it's got a hidden storage box in the boot and fuel-saving mild hybrid tech. No wonder it only just missed out on a five-star verdict.First there was the Beetle, then came the Golf and now we have this: an all-electric family hatchback that begins Volkswagen's third age but blends elements of the two that came before. Thus, it's a sensibly sized five-door family hatchback (there's your Golf) with a motor at the rear (there's your Beetle) and a charging port on its rear flank (there's your future...). Important, for sure, then. But does it truly move the game along? You can hardly say we've not given the new Defender a good going-over. Fully aware of how crucial the model's successful revival was - not just to Land Rover, but to its hordes of loyal fans - we tested its off-road mettle in Namibia before returning to the UK to try multiple variants on our battered tarmac, stage a vital off-road showdown with its key rivals and then conduct a full road test. The long and short of it? Forget its more rounded edges and higher list price, this is a Land Rover Defender that thoroughly deserves to wear its badge."You're looking at the quickest car in the world." If that sentence doesn't hook you in, we don't know what will. But this is no gratuitously gushing opening salvo; the 641bhp Turbo S variant of the latest Porsche 911 is truly in a class of its own on a point-to-point dash across the twisties, and our tester reckons whatever was joining you for the journey would stay firmly in the rear-view mirror. Whether it's also "the best supercar" in the world is another matter entirely, however...The most potent series-production Golf was always going to cause a stir, and when it promises not just enhanced straight-line performance over its predecessor, but also to excel dynamically, you know it's going to be something special. Our first stint at the helm failed to disappoint, and chances are when it touches down on UK roads in the next few weeks, the Honda Civic Type R will be quaking in its boots.A brand with the esteemed sporting reputation of Porsche was never going to have an easy time launching its first electric car. The original Cayenne, diesel Panamera and four-cylinder-powered 718 were each controversial in their own right, but pale in comparison to the prospect of a 2.3-tonne, four-door EV from Stuttgart - with a Turbo badge on the back, no less. Just as well then, that the Taycan - even in ludicrously quick 751bhp Turbo S guise - manages to conceal the heft of its electric innards to the extent that it can behave like a true sports car that doesn't need the "...and it's electric" caveat. Our 100th Porsche road test and the first EV to land five stars: a milestone indeed. Not one to rest on its laurels, Toyota has completely reinvented its best-selling Yaris supermini. The fourth-generation car doesn't just mark a radical design departure from its predecessor, but also offers more space, improved efficiency and - perhaps most surprisingly - boosted driver appeal. It's one of the priciest cars in its segment courtesy of its hybrid-only powertrain, but with character and charm high on its list of traits, it's a welcome return to form for one of our long-time favourite urban runarounds.Ten years ago, if you'd have said a company called Tesla would be battling another company called Polestar for executive EV supremacy, we'd have told you to go and have a lie...

Environmental Portraits - Workflow.
16th November 2020
Pre Production and Planning.
For this brief my plan was to shoot my stepdad in his shed maintaining his motorbike. I started off by doing reacerch on both and contemporary and historical photographers such as Oscar Marzaroli and Margret Bourke White. I investigated at portraits that were taken within industrial based environments. I also looked at contemporary portraits on Pinterest as part of my inspiration.
Tumblr media
I then completed a recce of my chosen environment to photograph but I noticed that there was very little space for me to be able to successfully compose my shots and there would be a lot of risks which would not only affect myself but my model and the materials within the shed so I considered removing some of the objects.
another problem I encountered was my lens choice before my final shoot I took test shots using canon 55 - 250mm zoom lens which I borrowed from the college but and noticed that shots were too tight so I then abandoned the shoot and borrowed a set of EX Sigma 17 - 50mm lens which are much wider lens, they were used in the final shoot for the brief.
My initial plan was changed because my stepdad wanted to spray paint one of the front wheels of his Ford Fiesta in the shed so I decided to photograph this instead.
Production
Tumblr media
On the day of the shoot the Motorbike and my bicycles were moved to the back of the shed and the wheel was removed from the car and brought into the shed, I photographed the alloy wheel paint process step by step in order to convey a story in my final images.
Tumblr media
The process to up to 4 hours to shoot and the wheel rim was polished, sanded down and given three coatings of acrylic silver spray paint.
Tumblr media
I am happy with my final selection of images.
Tumblr media
Equipment Used
Canon EOS 30D
EX Sigma 17 - 50 mm lens
Mini Tripod
CF Card 1GB
Adaptor
Tumblr media
Post Production
My final images were imported into adobe bridge and reviewed using review mode.
Tumblr media
I then starred the ones i want to include into my final selection of images.
Tumblr media
I then created contact sheets for all images.
Tumblr media
My final images were then imported and optimised using Lightroom I made adjustments to the Exposure, Contrast and Clarity of my final images.
Tumblr media
My final image Before and After Optimisation.

Based on the new-generation Focus’ C2 platform, the Focus ST brings an automatic variant for the first time, as well as the traditional enthusiast-focussed six-speed manual with rev-matching. In addition to expanded Selectable Drive Modes, there’s new technology including Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD), an electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD), and 2.3L turbocharged engine. “The Focus ST joins the Fiesta ST for 2020, offering a full suite of Ford Performance hot hatches for local enthusiasts,” said Kay Hart, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand. “Both bring new technology, with the Focus ST building on the innovation and tech leadership of the new-generation Focus, delivering a highly capable and livable performance hatch.” The Focus ST will be fully-imported from Germany, and will be on sale in Australia in 2020 with an MLP of $44,6901 for the 6-speed manual. A 7-speed paddleshift automatic is offered as a no-cost-option, with the ST taking the advanced C2 platform of the new Focus, introduced to Australia in late 2018, as a foundation to offer greater cabin space, cargo capacity as well as dynamic capability based upon a platform that delivers a 20 percent increase in torsional rigidity over the outgoing model. “Intelligent technologies like eLSD and CCD make our new-generation Focus ST the most ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ yet, able to switch from refined tourer to focussed performance car at the push of a button,” said Leo Roeks, Ford Performance director, Europe. “We’ve incorporated learnings from programs including our Ford GT supercar and the acclaimed Focus RS to develop a mid-size performance car with a degree of flexibility that’s unique in its segment.”
Focus ST: Looks that skill The Focus ST’s features both inside and out are designed to showcase its performance intent from any angle, building on the new-generation Focus’ core elements to deliver a Ford Performance optimised package. Immediately apparent, an aggressive stance is achieved with 19-inch machined alloy wheels, fitted with 235/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, as standard, with suspension that lowers ride height by 10mm over the standard Focus model. The Focus ST’s larger front and rear brake components are clearly visible, standing out with red brake calipers that clamp larger 330mm front and 302mm rear ventilated discs. A new electronic brake booster improves brake pedal feel, while braking performance was verified using the same demanding test procedures as the Ford GT supercar, and saw almost four-times the fade resistance performance of the previous generation Focus ST in testing. The Focus ST also boasts a honeycomb front grille, with LED headlight and taillights featuring LED Daytime Running Lights and for a signature look, with unique front and rear bumpers incorporating LED fog lamps and sculpted side-skirts producing a muscular look. An integrated spoiler caps off the major exterior changes on the ST’s hatch. Details include dual chrome exhaust tips, rear privacy glass as well as heated power-folding exterior mirrors with puddle lamps. There’s also unique ST badging in the front grille and rear hatch, exterior colour options chosen to emphasise the Focus ST’s dynamic styling including exclusive Ford Performance Blue and Orange Fury, alongside Frozen White, Magnetic (grey), Race Red, Ruby Red and Shadow Black2. The attention to detail continues inside the Focus ST. The heated Recaro sports seats are trimmed in leather and suede, with larger bolsters for improved lateral support during cornering, and feature ST logos, with lumbar support on the driver’s seat. Interior space is improved for the new-generation Focus ST, thanks to a 53mm increase in wheelbase, with greater occupant space in both front and second rows for greater comfort and convenience. Ford Performance instrumentation is standard, as are aluminium pedals that are matched to a chrome gear-lever for the six-speed manual, while the automatic Focus ST takes advantage of the new-generation e-shifter, which liberates space while enabling a cleaner console look. An electronic park brake also enhances space and interior sophistication for either transmission choice, while a flat-bottom heated ST steering wheel, wrapped in perforated leather, houses audio and SYNC 3 controls while delivering a premium feel and engagement for the driver.
Focus ST: Connectivity, technology and safety SYNC 33 as standard is another feature that brings livability and technology to the Focus ST. This includes a high-definition 8.0-inch touchscreen display, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone capability4. Functions, including Siri, can be accessed via the steering-wheel mounted voice activation controls, with capabilities including voice-activated text messaging. In addition, the Focus ST’s standard built-in sat-nav can also be accessed by voice-command, with the system specially engineered to comprehend Australian accents. The Focus ST also features wireless smartphone charging as standard, with technology including keyless entry and push-button engine start, ambient LED lighting and dual-zone climate control. A five-star ANCAP rating was awarded to the new-generation Focus line-up in 2019, with the standardisation of the Driver Assist Technology (DAT)5 praised by ANCAP CEO James Goodwin. The Focus ST includes a full suite of safety and DAT as standard, including:
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Cyclist and Pedestrian Detectioniv
Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert
Lane Departure Warning
Lane Keep Assist
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
Hill Launch Assist
180-degree full-colour, high-definition rear-view camera
Dynamic Stability Control
Driver, Driver’s side, Passenger Side and full curtain airbags
Auto high-beam headlights
LED Daytime Running Lights
Focus ST: Focus RS-developed powertrain The new all-aluminium 2.3-litre, turbocharged powertrain is the most potent ever offered in a Focus ST. Using advanced turbocharging technology to deliver 206kW6of power at 5,500 rpm – an increase of 22kW over the outgoing Focus ST – and a significant jump in torque, from 360Nm previously to 420Nmv , it is also the most free-revving Focus ST engine ever. Engine response is enhanced using a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, which scavenges exhaust gas energy more effectively using separated channels to minimise interference between gas pulses. An electronically actuated waste-gate allows closer control of boost pressures for optimised engine performance. In addition, a unique exhaust system that reduces back pressure, bespoke air intake system and optimised intercooler further improve breathing. Innovative anti-lag technology developed for the Ford GT supercar and F-150 Raptor pick-up is introduced to the Focus ST, for immediate power delivery in Sport and Track Drive Modes. Anti‑lag keeps the throttle open when the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal, alleviating the reversal of air flow from the turbocharger to maintain compressor wheel speed and enabling boost pressure to build faster on demand. The Focus ST’s six-speed manual transmission enables more urgent gear-changes and provides a sportier feel with a shift-throw reduction of 7 percent compared with the standard all-new Focus. Ford’s rev-matching technology that debuted on the new Ford Mustang is standard for manual models. Delivering smoother, faster downshifts, the technology is accompanied by a shift indicator light, and uses the engine’s electronic control system to briefly ‘blip’ the throttle as the driver engages a lower gear – matching the engine rotation speed to that of the gear that is being selected. Rev-matching enables less-experienced performance drivers to benefit from the seamless, momentum-maintaining gearshifts delivered by the heel-and-toe driving technique. A new seven-speed paddleshift automatic will complement the rewarding, engaging and sporty 2.3-litre engine’s driving experience. Adaptive Shift Scheduling assesses individual driving styles to optimise gearshift timings, and is enhanced to offer more flexibility and the ability to differentiate between road and track use. Drivers can also select gears manually using steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters.
Selectable Drive Modes: Focus ST’s smart chassis Building on accomplished Ford Focus’ driving dynamics, the new-generation Focus ST was developed to blend B-road fun-to-drive, legitimate track-day performance, and everyday usability. “Our target was to deliver an new-generation Focus ST that is as effortless to drive day-to-day as the rest of the Focus line-up,” Roeks said. “The model’s comprehensive range of technologies means customers gain exhilarating ST performance without sacrifice.” This flexibility and capability is accessed via Selectable Drive Modes that optimise the Focus ST’s capabilities for road (or track) conditions ahead. Slippery, Normal, Sport and Track Drive Modes adjust the eLSD, CCD, EPAS, throttle mapping, automatic transmission shift scheduling, electronic stability control (ESC), electronic sound enhancement (ESE) and climate settings to suit the driving scenario. A dedicated “Sport” button on the flat-bottomed steering wheel gives direct access to Sport mode, and an additional “Mode” button allows drivers to quickly scroll through the Drive Mode options. “Selecting Track mode instantly introduces higher steering efforts for more feedback; tunes the throttle to be more aggressive; instructs the eLSD to deliver maximum traction; and gives drivers more leeway within the ESC system,” Roeks said. “Drivers can have full confidence in the Focus ST’s ability to deliver on the track.” The Focus ST’s chassis brings a unique fully-independent rear suspension configuration that helps optimise the vehicle’s responses to driver inputs without sacrificing comfort. The agile and energetic character of the standard Focus is retained using the original spring specifications, with damping stiffness increased up to 20 percent at the front and 13 percent at the rear, and ride height reduced by 10mm, to improve road-holding and response in performance driving scenarios. The chassis upgrades also include Ford’s sophisticated Continuously Controlled Damper (CCD) technology for the first time on a Focus in Australia. The system monitors suspension, body, steering and braking inputs every 2 milliseconds to adjust damping responses for outstanding ride quality and driving dynamics. Also improving capability is the eLSD. The Borg Warner-developed technology is faster to deploy and offers greater precision than a traditional mechanical LSD. The system can pre-emptively adjust torque distribution using inputs from powertrain and vehicle dynamics sensors, rather than responding to wheelspin as it occurs, and can apply differential locking gradually for fine-tuning performance. The all-new Focus ST also takes Ford’s fastest-steering-response crown from the acclaimed Fiesta ST. The electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system is 15 percent faster than the standard Focus, requiring just two turns lock-to-lock. Class-leading connected feel is supported by unique steering knuckle geometry, with a rod attachment point 9mm further forward and 6.5mm higher than the standard Focus for sharper responses. New Steering Torque Disturbance Reduction software for EPAS also helps reduce torque steer, making it even easier to deploy with precision the Focus ST’s power and torque. The new-generation Focus ST will arrive in Australian showrooms in Q1, 2020.

Ford Confirms It: A Hybrid Bronco Is Coming
Tumblr media
UPDATE 5/9/19: Today, nearly one year to the day after we first reported that the new Ford Bronco would offer a hybrid variant, Ford CEO Jim Hackett doubled down on the statement during the company's shareholder meeting. The update comes by way of an Automotive News reporter who tweeted the news during the meeting. Those who have been following the Bronco's resurrection will remember that the upcoming 2021 Ford Bronco is slated to be available in two- and four-door versions ranging in ruggedness from a mild mall runner to an off-road model purported to have the goods to compete with the Jeep Wrangler. (A hybrid version of the Jeep Wrangler has also been confirmed.) Additionally, a smaller "Baby Bronco" is also in the works. Which version is ideally suited for hybridization is still unknown, but given what we’ve seen so far, both Broncos are eligible; the Escape's hybrid powertrain could be adapted for the Baby Bronco, and the Ford Explorer / Lincoln Aviator hybrid powertrain for the standard Bronco. -Andrew Wendler Ford dumped the Bronco SUV from its lineup 22 years ago. Now, in hybrid form, it could be the exemplar for how the automaker hopes to grow its business in America. In light of the automaker’s bombshell announcement that it will mostly transition out of the passenger-car business, the company will need to apply its EV and hybrid efforts to trucks, SUVs, and crossovers. The 2020 Ford Bronco is one of several models for which Ford has now confirmed a hybrid variant. The Bronco promises head-turning design and a hybrid version that doesn’t sacrifice truck toughness, and it should make an intriguing mashup of old and new. The Bronco going hybrid isn’t as shocking as it might have been a year or two ago; it’s nearly a competitive necessity. The Jeep Wrangler is already hybridized in four-cylinder form, and by the time the Bronco reaches the market, a Wrangler plug-in hybrid will have arrived. Ford last month said that it aims to increase its SUV sales by 20 percent, discussing plans to offer eight SUVs by 2020. Five of those models will offer hybrid powertrains, and one will be a battery-electric vehicle. The company has, at various times, confirmed hybrid versions of the F-150, Mustang, Explorer, and Escape as well as the Bronco. Plus, based on outside reports, hybrid versions of the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and Lincoln MKC are all expected around 2020. Among these, several are likely to be plug-in hybrids, but Ford has also suggested the possibility of an onboard generator system for the F-150 hybrid, a model that could share its hybrid design with the Bronco. The Bronco will be heavily based on the Ranger pickup, so that could open up another hybrid possibility that Ford hasn’t discussed yet. Ford once had one of the strongest-selling hybrids on the market with its Escape hybrid; a new version of this nameplate could inherit some of the recent upgrades given to the Fusion Energi, which has no long-term future, and the already discontinued C-Max Energi. Hybrids today are only 2 percent of the U.S. market, so while these measures may be necessary, they’re not sufficient for Ford’s ambitions. What will take the place of today’s Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus? In its shareholder presentation, Ford said it’s "exploring new 'white space' vehicle silhouettes that combine the best attributes of cars and utilities, such as higher ride height, space, and versatility." According to Jim Farley, Ford’s president of global markets, that may take the shape of "very emotional" performance and active variants. "We will have a diverse passenger-car business," said Farley, on the financial call. "It just won’t be traditional silhouetted sedans that tend to be commoditized."This article originally appeared on April 26, 2018.

Ford’s electrified vision for Europe includes its Mustang-inspired SUV and a lot of hybrids
Ford of Europe’s vision for electrification includes 16 vehicle models — eight of which will be on the road by the end of this year — the company announced at its Go Further event in Amsterdam.
Those plans include a plug-in hybrid variant of its Kuga SUV, its Mustang-inspired crossover, and a commercial transit van.
Ford’s European electrification strategy is in line with its plans for North America to focus largely on hybrids. For instance, in a separate event on Tuesday Ford took the wraps off its latest generation of the Escape, a 2020 model vehicle for the North American market that is sportier, loaded with technology and, comes with hybrid and electric options.
Last year, Ford ramped up its plans, announcing that it would phase out most cars it sells in North America. Ford will continue to produce the Mustang and focus the rest of its efforts in North America on trucks, utilities and commercial vehicles, as well as a move into electric vehicles.
The operational piece of Ford of Europe’s strategy, which does include a couple of all-electric vehicles in the mix, namely the Mustang-eseque SUV, will be largely led by Stuart Rowley.
Rowley, who took over as vice present and president of the regional outfit on April 1, will be responsible for all operational leadership of the business unit, including acceleration of the European transformation strategy. He reports to Jim Farley, president of Ford Global Markets.
The majority of the vehicles introduced Tuesday at Ford of Europe’s event are either hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicles. Two of those vehicles – a plug-in hybrid Explorer SUV and  a new plug-in hybrid Tourneo for the commercial van market – made their global debuts at the Go Further event.
A plug-in hybrid variant of Ford’s new mid-size Kuga SUV, which will have a 31-mile range for the battery piece of the hybrid picture, was also introduced along with new Fiesta EcoBoost Hybrid and Focus EcoBoost Hybrid models that feature mild-hybrid technology for optimized fuel-efficiency.
Ford focused on the commercial end of the market as well, with plans to bring an all-electric Transit van to Europe by 2021. Ford is bringing a plug-in hybrid version of the Transit van to market this year. This plug-in hybrid will have a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and Ford’s 1-liter EcoBoost gas engine, which acts as a range extender. The powertrain will have an all-electric (sometimes referred to as a zero-emission driving range) of 31 miles, and a total 310 miles range using the range extender. The vehicle is being trialed in London, with further testing scheduled to start soon in Valencia, Spain, and Cologne, Germany.
The Ford of Europe event confirmed that the often-teased ‘Mustang-inspired’ electric crossover will be more than a North American market. The vehicle, Ford said Tuesday, will be able to travel 600 kilometers, or 370 miles, on a single charge when it comes to market in 2020, an estimate based on European fuel consumption and emissions standard known as WLTP.
The WLTP, or World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure, is a new standard that is supposed to make European fuel economy labels more realistic. (In the past, ranges in Europe were wildly overstated compared to the more conservative EPA estimates. Vehicles in the U.S. use EPA estimates.
Ford has said it’s targeting a 300-mile range for its electric crossover in the United States.

FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
Tumblr media
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
More details to be tweaked as Ford ventures into the field of sport SUVs In case you do not know yet, the Ford manufacturer has decided to affix the ST badge on the Ford Edge at the end of 2018. The Ford Edge ST 2019 is the first utility to inherit this prestigious "badge" that had even crossed the Atlantic in the form of Fiesta and Focus ST over the last few years. But, things have changed at Ford for a little over a year. All that is called "car" disappears from the lineup with the exception of the sporty Mustang, and this, to the benefit of a range more utilitarian than ever. And to satisfy sports drivers, Ford has decided to turn its five-seater crossover into something a little more spicy for 2019. It remains to be seen if this big vehicle will succeed in making us forget the two small nerve cars that we enjoy so much in recent seasons.
Tumblr media
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
What's different about this Ford Edge ST?  The manufacturer did not just put badges ST at both ends of the vehicle for this new model, fortunately indeed! First, the exterior design is a bit more aggressive, whether it's the front bumper, 21-inch rims (optional in this case, the original ones are 20 inches in size), or even the rear which stands out especially by these false trapezoidal exhaust pipes. Obviously, this Blue Performance body color draws attention, but be aware that the manufacturer offers less conspicuous choices. The ST echelon also comes with reworked shock absorbers, larger anti-roll bars, larger rear brake discs, performance brake pads, in addition to wider (21-inch) and lower profile tires. . FORD EDGE ST engine But that's not all, as the 2.7-liter Ecoboost twin-turbo V6 gains power and torque over last year's Sport Edition, with a total of 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft. optimal torque. Coupled with this 6-cylinder, the eight-speed automatic responds present, she who can shift gears faster when the Sport mode engaged. The latter is activated via the button located in the center of the wheel of the gearbox.
Tumblr media
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
FORD EDGE ST interior Like any sport model, the Ford Edge ST also comes with a revamped interior to satisfy the fans. The ST edition still remains sober, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with an ST badge at its base, insertions alcantara suede seats at center of door sill FORD PERFORMANCE, not to mention the ST logo embossed to the front seats. At the wheel of a heavy vehicle A performance utility vehicle must give a little more in terms of handling, acceleration and even braking. With some modifications made by the performance wing, the Ford Edge ST is undoubtedly the most animated in the range, the mechanics that adds punch to acceleration, and this, even if the ST model displays a weight of 2,030 kg. This weight is one of the Achilles heels of this model. You have to work a little harder to tackle a sharp change. Even though, in these winter conditions, it is better to plan braking distances than to be in the set, if you know what I mean! The suspension is drier than in the regular liveries of the model, a detail that is obvious after only a few meters. I also attribute this feat of arms to low-profile tires installed on the utility, not to mention the state of this roads. On the highway, it's ok, but on a bumpy road, the Edge ST is a little too jumpy.
Tumblr media
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
When the Sport mode is engaged, the changes in the transmission are a little more abrupt. Do not believe, however, that the transmission works wonders like German double-clutch gearboxes. To arrive at an optimal speed change, it is necessary to cheat on the precise moment to change oneself the reports with the pallets mounted with the steering wheel, an operation which is not optimal, you will agree. Fortunately, the delay for downgrades is shorter. Sport mode has a direct effect on the musicality of the exhaust system which is more convincing when the engine is running at high speed. At highway speeds, however, the SUV becomes quiet again, as it should be.   The Ford Edge ST which was lent to me for this winter test was afflicted by an unpleasant friction during braking. Toward the end of the test, however, I noticed that the vibration had eased somewhat. After verification, the technicians found nothing on the vehicle that was only 5000 km on the meter.
Tumblr media
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
Noticeable quality despite the badge
Ford products still suffer from a noticeable assembly quality. Some panels are less aligned and I must admit that some plastics in the cabin are of average quality. This is where we recognize the more modest origins of the crossover, despite the prestige of the ST crest.
I also had to deal with an electric tailgate that refused to close. To close it, I had to push it manually. After checking with the manufacturer, the latter was misaligned. It's not a major trouble, but for an SUV over $ 55,000, it's a little disappointing!
Tumblr media
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
The Word of the End Can the Ford Edge ST be recognized as an authentic SUV? The answer is yes, although there are more agile options on the market. Let's not forget that this is Ford's first foray into the sports SUV segment. It is possible to hope for a better result with the Explorer ST 2020 which leaves on a more modern platform and an even more powerful mechanics.
Tumblr media
FORD EDGE ST 2019, THE BIGGEST ST OF THE EARTH ... FOR THE MOMENT!
The Ford Edge ST is not perfect: it is heavy to handle, the automatic transmission could be more dynamic and comfort could be improved somewhat, but when the right foot sinks into the floor and the V6 Ecoboost s' expresses loudly, we understand why there are ST badges at both ends of the vehicle. Despite the effort, the newcomer will not make me forget the two small ST bombs. By the way, I just started looking for a used Fiesta ST! FORD EDGE ST 2019 price is available from $ 55,000 -SEE ALSO:

Shrinking the Blue Oval: What’s Driving Ford’s Line-Up Cull
Ford’s decision to axe its sedan lineup will bring about one of the most wrenching shifts in brand identity in the history of the automotive industry. The history of Ford cars, of course, goes back to the revolutionary Model-T designed and built by Henry Ford himself.
In fact, the move announced this week by Ford CEO Jim Hackett could have psychological effects on consumers similar to when automakers have jettisoned entire brands over the last 12 to 15 years, including Chrysler’s ousting of Plymouth, Ford’s paring of Mercury, and General Motors’ discontinuation of Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer.
One of the most interesting brand aspects of Ford’s plans is what it’s not going to do: terminate Mustang. In fact, along with a version of the Focus compact that will become more like a crossover vehicle, the legendary muscle car will be the only remaining Ford car model once the company deep-sixes Taurus, Fusion, Focus and Fiesta. This reflects the devoted fan base that Mustang still has and the relative success of the latest version of the pony car that was introduced a few years ago.
Mustang is by far the strongest car brand that Ford has, and along with F-15o its strongest marque overall, bringing a performance halo as well as stronger profitability than other sedans. That’s why he’s keeping it. The move may seem to echo what FCA did by ridding itself of all cars except the muscle-car performance nameplates of Dodge, Challenger and Charger.
So what’s the strategy? Clearly, there was the imperative to rationalize Ford’s resources and cut costs significantly as part of the promise to restore financial “fitness” at the company that Hackett made when he became CEO about a year ago. Investors have become impatient with Hackett, too, as he felt his way through creating a new strategy for the company and to strengthen profitability.
It’s also about culling under-performers from its vehicle lineup. Hackett is streamlining and right-sizing Ford’s offering to the reality that consumers now prefer SUVs and crossovers to traditional family sedans and passenger cars. Fuel-sipping winners such as Focus and Fusion were in favor a decade ago amid $4-a-gallon gasoline and before millennials were doing much family formation, but now Generation Y is having kids and wanting appropriate vehicles to accommodate their active lifestyles —and utility vehicles are the answer.
What’s more, Ford already has a lot of new utility vehicles in the pipeline as well as the mid-size new pickup truck, Ranger, which will bow in 2019. By 2020, Ford plans for nearly 90% of its vehicles sold to be a truck, SUV or commercial vehicle. And it needs to re-allocate funds for autonomous and electric vehicles.
Of course, this grand plan depends on the continued popularity and profitability of America’s best-selling vehicle for decades on end, the F-150 pickup truck. Hackett doesn’t have to sell any sedans as long as Americans keep buying it. New versions of pickup-truck competitors by GM and FCA loom later this year, but F-150 with its new aluminum bed looks to be enjoying as much sales momentum as ever.

These are challenging times, so what better way to relax than with some Jazz.  I did just that this week at the Berkshire launch of the fourth-generation Honda Jazz compact city car — powered by a nifty hybrid electric-petrol system. This was the first UK coronavirus-compliant car launch under strict social distancing and safety measures coinciding with showrooms re-opening. Birth of the cool: Honda’s new Jazz variant, the Crosstar mini SUV has integrated roof rails and 16 in silver and black alloy wheels The Crosstar accelerates from rest to 62 mph in 9.9 seconds, has a top speed of 107 mph, but will still manage 58.9 mpg and CO2 emissions of 110g/km Since launch nearly two decades ago in 2001, more than 406,000 Jazz models have been sold in the UK (including 17,000 last year) out of 7.5million globally. A rival to the Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta and VW Polo, it adopts technology pioneered in the all-electric ‘Honda-e’ and is the first of six new ‘electrified’ Honda models due by 2022. For the first time, there’s a Crosstar variant with a reduced size SUV-style that is more flexible, funky and practical than the standard version.  Visibility in the new Honda hatchback is much improved, thanks to a wider windscreen and much thinner pillars. Sound-deadening improvements mean it’s also 10 per cent quieter than before.  Visibility in the new Honda hatchback is much improved, thanks to a wider windscreen and much thinner pillars This is my favourite. It rides higher than the standard Jazz, has integrated roof rails and 16 in silver and black alloy wheels. Mine came in fetching ‘Surf Blue’. The 109 hp hybrid system combines a 1.5 litre petrol engine with two compact electric motors.  Jazz Crosstar EX  Price: £22,635 (£23,185 with metallic paint) (Jazz hatchback range starts from £18,995 for the base level SE) Seats: 4/5 On sale: Now Length: 4,090mm Width: 1,725mm Height: 1,566mm Ground clearance: 144.2mm Type: Petrol-electric hybrid. Power: 109horse-power (HP) 0-62mph: 9.9 seconds Top speed: 107mph CO2 emissions: 110g/km Boot capacity (seats up): 298 litres Boot capacity (seats down): 1,199 litres It can run in hybrid drive, pure electric mode and engine drive and can move seamlessly through all. The smart, contemporary interior has pleasant, soft-touch materials and an uncluttered dashboard. Comfortable front seats dispense with springs in favour of a slat system to reduce fatigue and relieve back pain. There’s also more legroom in the back. Clever flexible rear ‘magic seats’ fold down to increase load- lugging space fourfold from 298 litres — more than enough for a modest shopping trip — up to an impressive 1,199 litres. The brake pedal positon has been changed to optimise the foot-angle. To help taller drivers the steering wheel is 2-degrees more upright.  Occupants are protected by 10 airbags – including a new front-centre bag to reduce the impact of front passengers’ heads and bodies colliding. Whiplash-mitigating front headrests are fitted.   A smart-phone app allows owners to keep in touch with their car when away from it – including tracking its movement and location via GPS satellite and giving you an alert if it exceeds a set distance or ‘geo-fence’ while someone else – whether off-spring or a partner – is driving.  It will also alert you if the car’s secutity alarm is activated.  The standard hatchback accelerates from rest to 62 mph in 9.4 seconds up to a top speed of 108 mph, but offers pocketfriendly fuel economy of 62.8 mpg with CO2 emissions of 102g/km. Prices from £39,870 for October deliveries. Kia Picanto gets a high tech makeover KIA’S spicy Picanto just got tastier with a series of new upgrades, telematics and safety features added.  To improve cornering and braking, it has a range of electronic stability controls. There should be lower emissions from its re- engineered 1 litre and 1.2 litre engines.  Expect prices from £10,000 with higher-spec models closer to £13,000. Design tweaks are evolutionary, not revolutionary with a more purposeful look and sharper lines.  Customers have a choice of ten vibrant paint finishes and a range of customised interiors including one in lime green.  It goes on sale in the UK and Europe this autumn with the Korean car firm’s seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty as standard.  Car sales crashed by 89 per cent in May to their lowest since 1952 with just 20,247 sold compared to 183,725 a year ago, according to latest figures. 2020 is proving to be an important year for Ford. They created a lot of excitement when they declared that they would stop producing all of the passenger vehicles other than the Mustang from the American market. That means that the Taurus, Fusion, Fiesta, C-Max, and Focus have seen their last days after many years and many more units have gone through the production line.
With that said, Ford is working on being a leaner, lighter, and more focused car company. Many believe this is the right move in a quickly evolving and cutthroat industry. So what’s in the 2020 Ford Lineup?

In 2019, Ford presented us with the most powerful factory Mustang ever built. The 2020 Shelby GT500 comes with a 5.2L V8 powerplant, which is similar to the GT350’s. A big difference though is that the GT500 doesn’t use a flat-plane crank.
The powerplant is made of hand-built aluminum-alloy and uses a 2.65L roots-type supercharger. This helps to boost the power output to an incredible 625 pound-feet of torque and 760 horsepower.
While the transmission isn’t manual, you do get a nice 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that can also be found in the Ford GT.
2020 Bronco
The Ford Bronco has been out of commission since 1996. But after years of absence, it’s finally back and better than ever.
This car is built upon the Ford Ranger and offers some tough competition to the Jeep Wrangler. It will also be coming out in both long and short wheelbase configurations (aka four and two doors) and it comes with removable doors and top.
Ford is also working with Magna PT on developing a new manual 7-speed gearbox. Another cool thing is that the Bronco will be getting a hybrid setup.
2020 Ranger
The new Ford Ranger features top of the line towing and payload capacities of 7,500 and 1,860 pounds respectively. This mid-size truck is available in both the SuperCrew and SuperCab configurations with trim levels that correspond to the bigger F-150.
A new 2020 addition is the FX2 package which is only available on the rear-wheel-drive models. That package is meant for people who love to go off-roading. It also adds specially tuned suspension, an electronic-locking rear differential, and off-road tires.
The entire fleet of Rangers in North America is getting the same engine. That’s a 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder which provides 310 pound-feet of torque and 270 horsepower. There’s also an automatic 10-speed gearbox.
It should be noted that both the all-wheel- and rear-wheel-drive configurations are available throughout the range.
2020 Explorer
The Ford Explorer hasn’t truly been updated since 2016 when it was given a mid-cycle facelift.
The sixth-generation Ford Explorer first debuted in 2019. It’s based on the Lincoln Aviator and shares that vehicle’s CD6 platform. But the Explorer comes with a more affordable price.
Even though the next-generation models aren’t incredibly different from the previous ones in terms of the design language, these models still show major upgrades in all other areas. The 2020 Ford Explorer offers a three-row SUV and some exciting new driving dynamics.
The new Explorer also comes with three different powertrains. Most consumers will get to choose between 3.3L naturally aspirated V6 with 318 hp or a 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder with 300 hp.
Both of these engines are available in all-wheel- as well as rear-wheel-drive configurations. And they’re paired with a modern 10-speed transmission.
A smaller number of consumers will get the optional 3.0L twin-turbo V6. This engine is available on the Platinum trim and new Ford Explorer ST only.
The twin-turbo engine will provide you with 385 pound-feet of torque and 360 horsepower. However, the ST model is going to get you 415 pound-feet of torque and 400 horsepower. Ford also gave the ST a stiffer sport suspension which is nice.
2020 Expedition
The biggest SUV by ford was given a makeover for the 2018 year. While it’s not a whole different in 2020, it does now come standard with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite of electronic features and its Sync 3 infotainment system. Co-Pilot360 includes blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alerts, pre-collision assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping system, and other helpful features.
The 2020 Ford Expedition comes in two distinct sizes. The Expedition MAX comes with a 131.6 inches wheelbase. And the regular Expedition has a wheelbase that measures 122.5 inches long.
Both of these sizes are spacious and share the same drivetrain.
Each Ford Expedition comes with a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine no matter what the trim level or wheelbase is. That engine delivers 470 lb-ft of torque and 375 horsepower across most of the range. However, the Platinum trims deliver 480 lb-ft of torque and 400 horsepower.
All of the Expeditions come with a choice between four-wheel- and rear-wheel-drive. And they all come with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The four-wheel-drive system comes with four different driving modes, including one that simulates rear-wheel-drive by utilizing a 2-speed transfer case.
The Importance of Knowing About the New 2020 Ford Lineup
As we can see, there are a lot of upgrades coming to the new 2020 Ford lineup. And pretty much all of them help to show that this is a car company that’s tough to beat.
Ford is an auto manufacturer that’s changed a lot over its 100+ year history. No matter what the economy or market throws at them, they continue to adapt and innovate. And 2020 is no different.
The only real question is, which Ford are you going to get?

[ad_1]
Ford’s third high-riding ST model will also be its smallest. The company’s European division announced it’s almost done developing a quicker, sportier version of the Fiesta-derived Puma crossover.

Next-generation 2020 Hyundai i20
The Hyundai i20 will enter its third generation next year, with styling cues borrowed from its larger sibling, the i30 hatchback
This is our first look at the all-new Hyundai i20. The Korean firm’s latest supermini will reach the UK market by mid-2020, with a range of powertrain and chassis tweaks, fresh technology and styling features lifted from its larger sibling, the i30 hatchback.
We’ve already seen spy shots of a hot i20 N mule, wearing the same body as the current model. As such, we expect the standard next-generation model will be based on the same platform and field a similar engine range as the outgoing i20, albeit with a range of handling, ride and efficiency tweaks.
Like the old model from Group 1 Hyundai, the new i20’s engine range will feature a 1.2-litre four-cylinder and a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder, in a couple of states of tune each. Buyers will also be offered the choice of a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, depending on the engine.
The performance-focussed i20 N will offer Hyundai a rival to the Ford Fiesta ST. It’ll likely be powered by a tuned version of the Korean firm’s 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol, producing around 200bhp – enough to make it competitive with the 197bhp Fiesta ST, but not so much that it treads on the toes of Hyundai’s flagship hot hatch, the 247bhp i30 N.
Hyundai has retained its supermini’s compact proportions and practical five-door layout, with the most noticeable changes being the adoption of the brand’s larger “cascading grille” and slim headlight design, as seen on the latest Santa Fe SUV.
Technology updates, lifted from larger Hyundai models, will also feature. We expect the new i20 will use the Korean brand’s latest eight-inch infotainment system (as fitted to the Hyundai i30), while a wealth of safety equipment will be offered as standard, including autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and a driver attention warning system.
