April 25th, 2024 - PIU 2023 PHOENIX, IIDX 31, DDR A3, CHUNITHM PARALOST

after all my hard and awesome and super cool work and effort these past few days, it's time to reward myself on the one day i don't have to go to class... with an ARCADE DAY!!!! been really looking forward to this day to finally grind out my favorite arcade rhythm games, though i almost ended up cancelling my plans due to the rain and none of my family being willing to take me there... but thanks to me accidentally making my mom scold my sister, she took me there and i had the time of my LIFE!!!

struggling to figure out what i wanted to try first, i decided i wanted to grind out some PIU and hopefully regain my Intermediate Lv.10 title that i lost in the switch from XX to Phoenix. i tried looking up the requirements for the title on the website, but they're measured by this weird points/rating system for individual levels that i genuinely can't figure out?? ah well, no matter. if i play enough of the specified level, maybe i'll reach that point threshold soon enough! and so i did... very exhausting...

got tired pretty quickly and failed out of a D19 (MATADOR) at the very last hold, so i moved on to IIDX to get a bit of practice in for my hands while i waited for maya to come online and give me my new list of charts to clear!! first set went alright, i guess, and i even finally unlocked camellia's beach side bunny remix!!

while i waited, i switched over to some DDR and tried regaining my 14 clear lamp, which went alright! i got the clears, but i also got green FCs with them... more preemptive progress for my future goal of getting the 14 green lamp someday... (ohyeah also, kilonova ESP-17 extra stage clear!! exhausting but really fun chart...)

found a free credit in the chunithm cab and eated it (hoping to get the elusive SS rank on Shukusei Shinpan...) only to FAIL AGAIN AUGHHH JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN ONE MIL (ah well, at least i still have until i get onto my card again :]

moved back to DDR to try reclaiming my 15 clear lamp this time, but then i decided to give Ichizu a few tries when all of a sudden... i got THIS.

A BLACK FLAG. ON ICHIZU. AN EVIL AND BRUTAL 15 WITH A BAJILLION 16THS. AUGHHH AND IT WAS A RANDOM CHOKE IN THE FIRST 30 NOTES AS WELLLLL

i tried running it back several times (at least 10 times) in hopes of somehow getting the PFC on another try since i was so close, but it simply wasn't meant to be... i got some really good PFCs up to 300 combo twice, but the fatigue started kicking in and i couldn't play for much longer as i was starting to suffer from a massive headache...

i DID see a friend later that day who tried cheering me on through my failed attempts, so we played a fun set before i finished for the day where i nabbed some pretty good scores that i didn't think i could do!! (melody H4CKER is such a banger song oh my fucking god)

maya finally came online and gave me a list of 10s to try during my set, so i did just that and tried playing with a massive headache going on... big mistake. didn't clear any new 10s and only got AAs on some other charts before i decided that was enough gaming for today and went home... (that HARD BRAIN was cracked AF tho)

February 15th, 2024 - CHUNITHM PARALOST

happy chocolate discount day!! a time for the loved ones so obsessed with each other just the 24 hours prior to relax, and a time for the ones excluded from the original holiday to participate in some way!! as for me! nothing really, just Even More Chunithm (but with more time this time!)

yeah, getting on the bus at the same time as the arcade opening with a better breakfast and no journal writing (besides the journal writing done in journalism) definitely gave me an advantage here as i plowed through bangers i really wanted to try.

unfortunately, since i'm married to the Grind, most of the scores this session were touhou songs from the maps that i wanted to claim some free items off of. but for the non-touhou songs (besides wizdimiot), the harvest was bountiful! both nijirate fanatics exp and that one other song were sightread rating increases, Teriqma was a massive banger that i wanted to FC for making me almost bust a move in the arcade, Supersonic Generation was a suggestion by a mutual to increase rating that sadly didn't happen, and TiamaT was a fucking INSANE S rank after having to sacrifice 0.01 rating to get it (tragic))

ARCADE DAY 2DAY!!! with FRIEND!!! he finally got back from a family trip and really wanted to experience Round 1 Bowling & Amusement again after so long without it, so i went with him and played alolng with his gamings -- including this single song i stole from a free credit where i got a sightread SS on Hardcore Syndrome [MASTER 14+]!!!

then i was really feeling iidx-y (rambling nonstop about iidx to him) so i went to play it for a bit!! ...and then i CHOKED THE IDOL NORMAL CLEAR AT THE VERY END AGHHHH

man,,,, i don't think i was really feeling it today, but then i went to play sdvx and my mood was Instantly lifted by the neat scores + 17 clears i got :] like this Completely Undeserved EX Clear on Hangyaku no disparate [MXM 17], S rank on waxing and wanding [EXH 16], massive PUPA upscore (lol), and an AAA on 9TH5IN [EXH 17]!!!

turned over to DDR briefly to play some sets with my friend before we left for the night, just playing songs i really liked/wanted to try with the new DDR World settings . it actually resulted in some really neat scores!! a FLARE IX clear on Trim [ESP-16], a 4p PFC upscore on RPG [ESP-14], two new 18 clears (Hou ESP-18 and Eon Break CSP-18), and a PFC CHOKE ON POSSESSION (EDP LIVE MIX) [ESP-16] WHYYYYYYYYY

back at home though: BATTLE NO.1 (FTR-9+, MAX-26) as FTR PM #151!!! Hurray!!!!!

Reinvent (FTR-8, MAX-30) Pure Memory as FTR PM #61!! glad i got this one out of the way, that middle slow speed section is scary :]

before this score though, i spent all morning grinding the HELL outta my homework and doing as much as i could before it was time for my shift. and in the end, i actually made some really good progress! i was practically done save for a few more questions that i could easily knock out either that night after work or in the next morning. so to reward myself and satisfy my primal urges, i went to Round 1 after my shift ended, let my parents know about my plans, and decided to game on some TWO DEE ECKSSSSS

but first!!! someone abandoned a credit on chuni (typical saturday night), so i had to do my little warmup chart in the name of Freyja: Shukusei Shinpan (Master 15) 995k Again...

okay but after that now, it was iidx time for REALS!!! kicked it off with my warmup song at an EXTREMELY low speed, then actually gamed for real with an AA H-Clear on Neoki Yashi no Ki (SPH-9)!!!

but then, suddenly, i had a thought... i wasn't here to do this at first, but i evaluated my skill on the spot and the intensity in my hands and thought... could i do it? could i actually do it? months after my first attempt and the disappointment i had in my skill after the fact, was i ready to revisit it again?

could i actually clear 7th dan?

for the longest time, it felt like such a pipe dream. no way i could've come anywhere near clearing it. after all, i only even got 5th and 6th dan as complete flukes in my first tries on each (that sounds contradictory, but i promise i had Zero faith in my skill). but y'know what? i had no other goals in mind, nothing better to do, and i wanted this session to be a little silly anyways. so fuck it, why not? epolis 7th dan attempt... number TWO!!

...well!! can't say i was expecting much better, but that actually seemed kinda promising! though i certainly could've done better on HEARTACHE and Rowdy, i did really good in bringing up ruin of opals to an A! but even if i could get past the three of those consistently, i still had a big safari-themed wall in my way if i wanted to get past this dan. that's when i got a suggestion to try playing the course on mirror to make that safari wall easier to cross... at the expense of having to readjust to every other chart. but with no better plan and no better chance at clearing the chart, i tried! epolis 7th dan attempt (on mirror this time)... number THREE!!!

okay yeah not even gonna sugarcoat it, that was complete ass. buuuut i guess i didn't really practice the charts on mirror beforehand anyways, so this is the only real reasonable result. if i could nail all of these on mirror though, it'd be the one thing i need to mash through and survive on the safari...! so here we go, epolis 7th dan attempt... number FOUR!!!!

hm . ruin of opals got better somehow, but heartache and rowdy are still really tough with mirror. and if i can't do rowdy, i can't do the safari with enough gauge. reading comments on videos of rowdy, a lot of people share this sentiment about the chart being on a similar level of difficulty as safari. maybe that's stretching it, but i definitely get it. alas, i wasn't really gonna get anywhere with any more attempts at this dan, so with my head low and needing to get back home anyways, i left the arcade with only my 6th dan still intact...

DON'T PLAY ARCAEA AT 12 AM (WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE) (but actually... this score was kinda worth it ig???)

not to worry, though! i went to sleep shortly after that and left the rest of the rhythm gaming to, well, the ACTUAL day. this is evident in the next score i got that day at 8 AM, which was a 2nd try clear on overdead BYD-10 with tempest gauge!!!

then: i finally got enough music cards to . y'know . buy stuff from the music shop. so i spent it on getting this FC on Ogyarinizer Expert which could've very well been an AP if I spent more time on it!! (though I didn't want to, because I already had plans that day to go check in on the local arcade...)

local arcade update: STILL OFFLINE!!! urghhh i just wanna save my scores is that too much to ask?? ah well, this is why we have MODERN TECHNOLOGY (phones. cameras. cameras in our phones. cameras to take pictures of and personally save our scores. here's the pictures in question!) an SS on Ai Nov [MASTER 13+], nice nice, and also an FC on Shukusei Shinpan [EXPERT 12+]! but then... is that... A NEAR SS ON THE 14??? AND THEN AGAIN??? oughhh how i wish i was on an actual card for this...

frustrated by having to re-unlock the song's master chart if i wanted to play it again though, i gave up and went home for the day to grind more mobile rhythm games, where i got an EX+ on overdead [BYD-10]... and then a tempest clear on Einherjar Joker [BYD-10+]??? this one's especially shocking to me because, looking at the gauge at the start, it seems the acceleration scales with the BPM? meaning if I even dare miss a single note, the acceleration to my doom will be almost twice as fast as normal. or maybe i'm delusional. not sure yet.

the rest of the scores for the rest of the day were mostly just challenges! a full combo challenge for Teo Expert in the official EN Colorful Stage discord, a CLEAR!!! CHALLENGE!!! FOR!! AN!! ARCAEA!!! COMMUNITY!!! SEEEERVEEEERRR!!!!!!!, and just a casual AP on Becoming Potatoes [APPEND Lv.25] to reach Append AP #8 :]

April 17th, 2024 - PIU 2023 PHOENIX, DDR A3, SDVX EG, CHUNITHM PARALOST

today was a special, long-awaited day for me! after letting them settle in and finishing up some of my homework, i finally took my cousin from Mexico to Round 1 to check out all the fancy dancing games available there!!! and to show off, I got a 1-good 1-bad SSS on Simon Says, EURODANCE!! S18!!! (this would be an old-ranking S)

shortly after this set though, my sister and other cousin would abduct her and take her out shopping through the rest of the mall, leaving just me and my friend to play the dance games there on our own. forever alone... but instantly wiping away those feelings with this super quick FC on Megalovania ESP-16!!! first (DDR) song of the day!!

played a bunch of SDVX against my friend and alone simultaneously, trying to play as many 17s as I could to get sorta used to them. it worked i guess?? i was able to get consistent 940+s and clears on them, something I couldn't have imagined myself doing at all. not only that, but i revisited one of my favorite 17s (One More Lovely EXH) and managed to get a 970/AAA with hard clear and all!!!

briefly goofed off in chuni and got a co-op clear on Oshama Scramble Master with me and my friend using one hand each LOL

lots more SDVX than where that came from!! more 17 clears of course and a few miserable fails, but i kept grinding out the BPL event on my own and eventually... finally... DID IT!!! NEMSYS ARENA -WORLD HEXATHLON- UNLOCKED JUST IN TIME!!! celebrated again by playing a set with my friend where i cleared the 17 i use as my menu music, upscored 2 MINUTES FIGHTERS just barely, and got locked into this gorilla song for which i wasn't able to buy the INFINITE before i got locked in

i was about ready to leave after that, but the DDR cab opened up as i was recovering and i gave it a few tries, which was absolutely worth it!!! an FC/AAA on I'm so Happy CSP-16 with a local player, and an AAA on Illegal Function Call ESP-16 on my own!!! i left after that to catch up on homework and relaxed, but i really enjoyed the experience nonetheless :] (i say, as i write these posts to avoid doing homework i have right now)

more early morning upscores for world mode, more gaming! a PM on Let you DIVE! (nitro rmx) (FTR-9, MAX-48) as FTR PM #32 (still legit the worst song in the game)... a 1-2 on conflict [FTR-10] somehow, and an EX+ on Macrocosmic Modulation [FTR-9+] finally...

after my classes and having nothing better to do, my friend really gets the urge to go play chunithm at the local arcade. i follow since i have the membership there, and we were set to have a pretty good time! ...almost. when we got there, the chunithm cab was unfortunately offline and we couldn't use our cards, which my friend was semi-pissed about (the cab here tends to go offline a lot). i, on the other hand, saw this as an opportunity to briefly pick jubeat back up after neglecting it for a while. and it was pretty good! the S rank on AIR RAID FROM THA UNDAGROUND ADV-9.7 was insane no idea how i did that

kinda got bored after that though, so we decided to take turns on the chunithm cab and grind for whichever master chart we wanted to play while delusionally waiting for the cab to come back online (it didn't). still, i got some good scores that i hope to replicate once it truly does come back online! (i'll get you someday on my account, contrapasso -inferno- SS...)

April 1st, 2024 - CHUNITHM PARALOST, SDVX EG, DDR A3

WE'RE BACK!!! you thought the hangouts and social antics of me and co. were over? you thought WRONG!!! i was originally set to go see the cherry blossoms with some club friends today, but every one of them (except the one i went to sakuracon with) cancelled over the week and it was just us against the world. so instead of going all the way to seattle again like we did before, we just went to round 1!! and we rhythm gamed!!! mostly chunithm, since that was the game my friend liked the most, but i also encouraged him to try some more SDVX (he got a taste at the con) and, of course, ddr. so first off, chunithm! just some simple SS scores, nothing special unfortunately (i have better scores on my private card...).

next, like i suggested, is sound voltex!!! just played the exhaust of whatever my friend picked, for better or for worse, and i was SO CLOSE to getting 16 VF and coral rank. so close... (if only i wasn't so ass at shoushitsu... coulda gotten my first 18 clear.)

and to cap it all off, ddr (though just one score since i did pretty bad on my end and just took pictures of my friend's scores. this isn't even an upscore why am i even including it aaaaa)

March 27th, 2024 - Arcaea, SDVX EG, CHUNITHM PARALOST, DDR A3, IIDX 31

GOOD MORNING!! back with some more early morning arcaea, where i grinded for a bit and finally unlocked Aleph-0!

i still had a bunch of stamina after that (as you can see in the top left corner of the image above), so i continued the map to try and get that last warped shard. i focused on uppers to maximize my steps as well, and BOY HOWDY were they insane!! i should've toggled my PTT back on since i can't lose it unless i get an AA or below anyways, but yeah look at all this stuff!!! an EX+ on Ikazuchi and eden FTR-10, then an EX and immediately following it up with an EX+ on GENOCIDER FTR-10+, and then a slight upscore on XTREME FTR-10!

today i went thrifting with my mom to find an outfit for my toya cosplay for sakuracon, so conversely i took a break from arcaea (kinda) while i looked for clothes and compiled my outfit. on the initial way there however, i jconsumed a bit of stamina and got a sightread full recall on Aleph-0 FTR-10! my first 10 FR (somehow)! as well as a PM on Maze No.9 (FTR-8+, MAX-11) as FTR PM #30 :]

after we finished thrifting and got pretty much everything for the outfit, i got dropped off to eat and then GAME at round 1!!! continued to practice and hone my at SDVX (not really, i'm kinda just hyperfocused on getting coral VF right now), and so with it kinda came a few upscores! (i really need to learn how to warm up in these games...)

i went over to grind iidx as well for the event, but i also found an abandoned credit of chunithm and decided to get some extra training on it by picking World Vanquisher... which i felt i did really bad at, but still got an S rank somehow...

after that, i went to play iidx for real this time and... kinda also sucked at it! at this point, i really wasn't satisfied with my skill and felt like giving up. urgh... fortunately though, braving through this feeling and continuing to play despite it allows me to reach that potential i felt was missing!

switched over to play the last of the triple tribe games, and surprisingly the last one i needed for the last event song... DDR!!! i didn't take many score photos as there were many i wanted to run back and was mostly on a quest to reclaim my 15 and 16 clear lamps (which I did!), but i got this sick first try FC on Euphoric Fragmentation!!!

took a break to let others play a few sets while i grinded an arcaea map, and i eventually was forced by the map's restriction to get a PM on felys (final remix) (FTR-9, MAX-27) as FTR PM #31!!!! ...and with barely any audio besides the tapping of my thumbs, at that!!

after that, i went right back to DDR to finish the job and get that last set in for the triple tribe event, which -- turns out the set with the Euphoric Fragmentation FC did it -- and i finally got Ambivalent Vermilia!!! very fun but extremely exhausting charts on both Difficult and Expert hellyeah!! that's not the point of this next image though, which is actually focused on the extra/galaxy stage i'm about to show off... an FC on BLUE FOG, SILVER BULLET EDP-15!!! MY FIRST EVER DOUBLES FC!!! UPSCORED FROM A FAIL ON FLARE V!!!

one last ddr score cutoff to mention this really funny coincidence at round 1. so you know how i was playing SDVX earlier as if everything was normal? well, everything was still very much normal. except, in the time that i played, something weird changed with the sdvx cab. or should i say... CABS!!! i was sitting down and taking my public-arcade-mandated break from DDR when i looked over to the right at the SDVX cab to see how it was doing. i think i wanted to play a set maybe? i forgot, but what i saw wasn't someone playing on the cab. it wasn't even the cab staying on and playing its attract screen!

no, what i saw was one cab with a black, offline screen and, to my shock and surprise, ANOTHER CAB NEXT TO IT. this cab with its wooden panel for a screen was being worked on by several team mechanics as they moved everything around to make way for it. but no joke i thought i was hallucinating from my exhaustion when i saw it. unbelievable, it finally happened...

i tried waiting around for the cab to come online, but the card reader wasn't working for some reason so it was only the first cab that came back online and got played. regardless, i finally met a ddr local again for the first time in a while and played a few awesome sets with her, even getting a new 14 PFC from the new touhou pack!!! (as well as trying the inhuman challenge charts that came with the back, how the hell does o4ma have 6p on trance dance anarchy???)

whew, this post took forever to write, but it's over now thankfully!! for March 28th (today, as of when i'm writing this), it'll mostly be arcaea and proseka, but tomorrow is a huge day... as i'm finally going to Sakuracon in my thrifted Toya cosplay and playing ALL THE RHYTHM GAMES I CAN FIND!!! returning to the arcade where i last left off back at home and finally securing an interview this time, which went really well! celebrated my success by trying to get this Naoki mission done, failing miserably, getting tired and straining my arms, then going home in misery (though with the added bonus of having my interview ready and article half ready. will elaborate more in my journal.)

and now, for the best part of the california visit... FIDDY MEETUP FIDDY MEETUP

THAT'S RIGHT BABY!!! I WAS FINALLY MEETING UP WITH *THE* FIFTY SEVEN... FOR THE THIRD TIME!!!! after successfully convincing both them and my dad to go to the Round 1 meetup spot, i chilled there and invited some DDR players to meet with before fiddy got there... with an awesome turnout of three icons i'd been dying to meet, one of which being my FIRST EVER RIVAL!!!

i unfortunately didn't get any scores with slime since it was my warmup set of sorts (though i wish i did...), but i Did get a bunch with Fastboy and BigYama!! CHECK IT!!! ESPECIALLY THE FIRST TRY 3Y3S FC!!! WHAT THE HELL!!!

ohyeah i played SMX in between sets since traffic was high!! looks like only one pad was playable, and my only score was kinda lame. ah well, guess i'll just have to revisit it back at home.

later on though, FIDDY ARRIVED!!! we facetimed a mutual friend (or well, my ex-turned-art-mutual), but the reception inside the round 1 kinda sucked. but after that, we went over for the chunithm cabs and goofed off before trying to play a set together!!! (or well, as best as we could synchronize them). and i WON THE ONLY SONG WE GOT TO PLAY!!! also "bro thinks he's str" with the world vanquisher play LMFAO

went back home really happy that i was able to make a gift in return (with the combined help of Da Ex) as well as being tasked with taking care of both gifts on the way back. didn't do much rhythm gaming for the rest of the day as i was busy with the research paper thingy, but i got this score back at the hotel while trying to unwind from that day!

did some interviews for an article for my school's newspaper, and tried going to the local arcade to get another interview for a different article! unfortunately though, nerves got to me and i ended up just playing chunithm in silence before leaving. chunithm was offline too, so the real game being played was jubeat (so close to the RPG ADV-6 FC)... and maybe just a little bit of chunithm to keep my skills in check.

February 22nd, 2024 - CHUNITHM PARALOST, Fortnite Festival

MASSIVE DAY TODAY!!!! Originally I was just gonna go to the arcade by myself, but then my buddy Leo had nothing better to do that day, so we both went along downtown and had a blast taking turns n' playing chunithm!!! I thought this would take away from the potential gaming I could've been getting in, but it actually gave me a skillboost somehow??? Like, look at these scores!!!

Sure, the Evans SS and Angel Dust WORLD'S END AA weren't massive, but then we get serious after warmups and try upscoring some old tracks, which -- oh my god. Angel Dust SS, Shin Sennen Joou 995, Love & Justice 993, felys -final remix- SIGHTREAD FC BTW, MARENOL ALMOST SIGHTREAD SS, and then ending it off with a double upscore on volcanic (995 to 1002 to 1004) to end off the session at 14.70 rating!!!!!

back at home i even had enough time to play the new Fortnite Festival Season 2!!!!!! I didn't take many scores screenshots, but I did get many Top 10 placements in exchange!!! (and also a sightread FC on March Of The Pigs Expert Drums

FRIDAY BABY!!! After a week of stress, stress, and more stress, I finally had enough time to attend a meetup with some friends !!!!1

I wrote about the nitty gritty details in my daily journal, but it boiled down to hosting a rhythm game triathlon for my friends and seeing who came out on top LMFAO. i didn't get to play too many of the games myself, but i still got a few scores i can show here!! (and by a few, i Mean a few. barely got any upscores besides Sisyphus CSP-18 916k on DDR, so i only got an offline S on World Vanquisher)

February 14th, 2024 - CHUNITHM PARALOST

valentine's day!!! what a beautiful holiday of buying gifts and sharing them with your one-in-a-million, reminiscing on the partnership between each other 'til death do ye part... and for everyone else without even the slightest hint of a crush, a day to throw that all out the window in favor of your own hobbies!! for me? CHUNITHM TIME!!! my first session in a long while now that i had a free day, but i had to brave the curse of writing in my daily journal and catching up a few days before getting to this. but nevertheless, i left off at a good spot and got to work on the GRIND.

conversely due to this notebook writing, there's not a lot of scores to go off as i had to go back and eat something anyways. but for the short time i was there, i gained a TON of rating from sightreads and insane chart improvements. that Citrus Monster SS is def the highlight of the session!!!
