I feel like HypMic is at this weird point where they are lingering on how they want to proceed forward. I feel like the music for the 2nd DRB was very experimental, and I did appreciate that even if I didn't like all the music (except for that DragonAsh song tho that was ass LOL). It feels like KR is struggling with how to move forward with telling a story while using the voting system, as such they've kinda written themselves into a corner. Like it was obvious they wanted FP to win the 2nd DRB because it was needed for plot. But at the same time it really feels like the plot has slowed to a crawl at the same time, and between that and the music creeping away from rap you're kinda left with a feeling of disappointment overall. It esp hits harder when you're a fan of BAT and DH given how under utilized they still are in the grand scheme of things. But given how they placed them geographically it feels like yet another instance of KR accidentally writing them into a corner and struggling to rectify that so they can be more relevant but also make it make sense, idk. I still love Kuko no matter what even if the series is currently languishing. (it also doesn't help that there isn't really any unified fandom because of politics, too much content too fast, and people being so oshi-pilled they have no interest in touching content that doesn't interest them. Which again, sucks as BAT fan cuz we don't really have a translator solider for us.)

what’s really really annoying about that, is that it has been put out there that we’ve entered the third act in hypmic’s story and tho it’s not always necessarily the case, usually that means we are heading towards an end. and we are starting to see an end with a lot of og division plot threads so to be closer to the end than not and still having like a third of your cast floundering around is not good!!!!! at all lol!!!! unless there’s a max effort push to bring nagosaka into the fold, it really does feel like nagosaka, no matter what, will feel under utilised

hypmic’s slow to come plot bombs have been a staple since the beginning so i’m not mad at it, esp since i suspect those long waits have something to do with production values and making the next shiny, economically stimulating thing lol, but you’re right about it not being great rn when everything else is not great lol

but i will say hypmic has its formulas. like the way first solos were surface level character introduction raps and the second solos went into depth, for the og divisions, their first drb and preceding dramas were introductory and the 2nd drb dramas really dug deep into them. so hopefully the same will happen for nagosaka when the 3rd drb drama hits them lol 🤞

Thank you for your participation! These are the final results for the 5th Hypnosis Microphone International Poll. And just before the 2nd DRB results - will these be a good estimate for the results we’ll see?

PREFACE

The data collection for this poll received 1,107 votes to give us an indication of the demographic of those who consume Hypnosis Mic. This poll was open to English speakers, and thus, results may be considerably Euro/American-centric. The word ‘international’ has been used to refer to how fans are from many places around the world, but the poll may also refer to this group as ‘English-speaking’ etc. In future, we may attempt to broaden language-scope such as with Spanish and Portuguese fandom. Due to the lack of Japanese responses this time (276), we will be posting limited Japanese results for comparison.

This poll received the most activity through Twitter, given that the series is most active on that platform. The poll was also posted on Tumblr, Facebook and the HypMic wiki. Commentary has been given on sections of the poll. These results will be available in full on from this account. The poll was conducted from September 2021 to October 2021. This poll is UNOFFICIAL and none of the composers of this poll have any relation to King Records whatsoever.

Black Journey is a song first released in the 2nd DRB Fling Posse vs Mad Trigger Crew live event. Using the lyrics transcribed here, I made a translation for my own amusement. I am not a strong lyricist, so these lines are not poetic. I focused primarily on readability and understanding based on my own interpretation of the song, but I will strongly support and encourage other translations of this song as I see them released. Thank you to Kyn for sharing commentary and feedback as I worked.

Yea, no problem at all, I’m glad you asked! First off, welcome to the fandom - everyone’s amazing and it’s really cozy here so we’re glad to have you 💕

Regarding the drama tracks, I always read them on the wiki right here! It usually updates translations pretty fast (they’re already starting the 2nd DRB tracks that just came out) and the list is relatively in order so you can read them all there. I usually listen to the tracks on Spotify, but I believe they’re also available on SoundCloud!

So, that BB!!! drama track huh

SPOILERS TO THE HYPMIC 2ND DRB BB!!! DRAMA TRACK (Life is what you make it) BELOW

Oh my god I’m still emotional about this track I swear to god. Legit listened to it last night for the first time (cause I was mainly waiting for the translations of the entire track to come out but someone did translate bits and pieces of parts of the track) and I busted into tears when Jiro ran away from Ichiro and Saburo and he was hyperventilating and almost in the brink of tears when running as well. DEADASS BAWLED CAUSE I ALSO LOVE JIRO AND I FELT SO BAD

Also, this entire time Rei was Saburo’s like online friend and I’m just sitting here like “ A H - “ (lmao just remembering the BB!!! vs. MTC manga where Saburo had to hack into a website he made in order to gain access to Plunderer and then revealed to this kid that it was the website for Japan's Department of Defense. Lmao y'all remember that shiz?)

Side note, stan Urumi for being the best life coach to Jiro I swear to god. Legit helped him through this whole thing by giving him good advice. We love an icon. Alright back to before now, just wanted to talk about them for a second (I just think they're neat-)

Hey everyone!

So, I’ve made a few minor changes to the blog - switched up the primary colour theme to something a little more appropriate, and I’ve also updated the Navigation page so it’s easier to find the most recent songs I’ve translated. 

I’ve also added the names of the upcoming songs from the 2nd DRB albums, plus all of Rhyme Anima’s discography, so you guys can bother me if there’s anything I haven’t done yet that you want me to do, lol. Battle songs and new division songs take priority at the moment however, including R.I.P, so look forward to seeing those soon.

Okay so brainrot taking over again and it is on Ichiro. Like he’s that boy that you could bring to parents and the kind that grandparents would love to pinch cheeks and ask for help from. But at the same time, he is so alone. As in he has no one he relies on. It’s not like he couldn’t but Ichiro chooses not to. Both from because he doesn’t want to bother someone and because he’s afraid to. 

Some people that were translating the new drama tracks had a bit that like made me full stop. And it was Jiro talking about how he couldn’t just take a soda because Ichiro said to always pay for things. And that’s so sad. Like, he cannot believe anyone to just give to him out of the kindness of their hearts. No, not that he doesn’t believe people are kind but he cannot stand the thought of being in someone’s debt, even if they do not feel that way about it. 

Part of me believes that’s Rei’s doing as if you notice, everyone owes him favors. Never the other way around. It makes sense for a con man. And while Ichiro isn’t like that, it is his old man and sometimes they’ll give advice like that. And sometimes you take it up even if it’s not always true or if you don’t fully care for this person later on. And part of me believes that is Rei’s doing in that Ichiro has too much pride in not wanting to be like his father that he refused anything from the old man. I believe that Rei might’ve tried to give the boys money through Ichiro and Ichiro refused it. Possibly because he didn’t want to give Rei any leg up of feeling that he ‘owed’ him for any part of raising Jiro and Saburo. 

I have two different but not necessarily conflicting thoughts about Ichiro’s childhood and adolescence and the whole loneliness thing. Considering that the Yamada brothers lived in an orphanage in the TDD manga, Rei chose to not stay in the boys’ lives...for some reason (I foolishly keep hoping there’s a good reason). And neither of his brothers would remember it but Ichiro would. He would remember being left by his own father. And I assume--hope--that Ichiro had some pleasant memories of who his parents were. Yet at the same time, it hurts because he’s lost one parent and the other parent fucking dumped him. The only consolation is that Ichiro might know why Rei left but that still doesn’t take away that this is a kid that had his parents leave his life when he knew what it was like to have them. A loved and lost deal.

He has no foundation for himself yet he found himself having to be a foundation for someone else. Possibly because that’s all he had left. And he went about it as best as he could. Did he make some foolish decisions? Absolutely. But who doesn’t make foolish decisions? It’s just usually--ideally--you have someone there to bail you out or cushion the fall when you’re young because you’re young and don’t know better. And I kind of feel that’s why he had gotten so close to Samatoki in TDD days. 

Yeah they have a lot similarities but Samatoki also had a couple more years and a bit more of steady hand in caring for him because of him being yakuza. I have little doubt Ichiro at some point saw Samatoki as what it’s like to be a man. And this was a man that not only helped bail him out of his own mistake but also sought for him to be better. Like yeah, Samatoki constantly called him a brat but he also was the first to call for Ichiro when they were up to their TDD shenanigans. And Ichiro found Samatoki as someone to turn to when he felt he didn’t know what to do. When he was hurt from Kuko leaving, guess where he went?

So, unsurprisingly, it absolutely devastated Ichiro for this person he looked up to and even dared to rely on to endanger those he loved. Like this is someone Ichiro felt he didn’t have to be this strong person for and Samatoki went and almost got his brothers taken from him. Even if he could rationalize it after the fact, it does not cushion the blow that gave to Ichiro. Which is why their beef continued on Ichiro’s side despite him knowing and understanding that Samatoki had stakes in their fight too! 

He trusted him! And even though he let himself lean on Samatoki and let himself be himself around him...it still came out like this. At that point, who could he trust? He couldn’t trust those that gave him life. He couldn’t trust a fellow delinquent and friend. He couldn’t trust the person that he admired. And while he didn’t grow cold, Ichiro became wary and I don’t really blame him. In a way, I feel it just made him want to become the man that he longed to be there for him. Which makes him a fairly kind person, sure, but also one that cannot turn to others. 

Especially he cannot turn to his brothers nor let him know of his own problems. Because, to him, they just need someone to be a foundation for their growth. Growth unimpeded by the same things that stopped him. And while sure, it’s very obvious that Jiro and Saburo hung onto Ichiro...he very much was doing the same with them. Like those two are his world.

And while I like (and consider writing) angst about the boys not taking the revelations of before and during the 2nd DRB well, I’m glad it shook out fairly alright. Because I’m not sure if Ichiro could take it going very wrong. Because it’s just another loss on his heart that he didn’t expect and didn’t want. He’s been hurt by family before so in theory it should hurt less. But to me it would destroy him because his brothers are his world. Like sure, we joke about his weebness but it, his business, his rapping and his brothers are all Ichiro really got going on for him. 

He gave up having an adolescence to be a provider for them. He chose to bear the secrets of their family and their weights because he didn’t want to unfairly burden his brothers. He took their disdain and put up with an asshat because he didn’t want to make them sad. I have to find where it was mentioned but I believe Ichiro has never even thought much of his future??? Like he’s focused on keeping afloat he hasn’t thought about what’s next for just him. What’s left for him when they don’t need him anymore? 

I highly doubt that either would just drop Ichiro. Any shit that goes down, they’re still siblings and still care. Don’t get me wrong. But they will eventually grow up. Like Jiro’s shown to do immensely right now. And Ichiro IS proud. But still...

hello!! i hope you're doing well! i used to be a huge hypmic fan. i mean, i still am! but, i've had other interests of mine occupy my brain for a while, and so i haven't interacted with it or the fandom. i always loved hearing your thoughts on the series, though, and since i've heard about season 2 of the anime coming out, i wanna dive headfirst into again! so, if you don't mind me asking, is there anything i've missed? the last thing i really remember happening was the mixed up drama track.

fortunately mixed up was the last bit of canon that happened before it had restarted!! and so, to know where we currently stand, do listen to the chuuoku drama track, no one lives forever (translation)!!!!! the anime takes place after the 2nd drb, so while we aren’t sure if the anime will take place within canon, knowing what has happened might help once we get more info about the anime!!!

i also recommend catching up with the manga!!! tho the details are a little iffy for some, we finally got to see nagosaka’s hypnosis abilities in action!!! you can read the summaries on slug’s twitter, but their abilities are:

📿: can seal one person’s ability for the entirety of the battle

🌙: details are unclear but it is a very powerful attack that may have recoil

⚖️: can send abilities right back at the person, or deflect some damage if too powerful

🎋: causes enemies to laugh, making their raps very weak

🍮: uploads information about the opponent to his team’s brains so they know the right words to make their raps more effective

0️⃣: a future plant ability that gives him the power to control an enemy at a later time

Yoo, back at it again with Matenrou! That title is stupidly long so I’m not subjecting us all to that. This portion will cover up until 8:46. 

I’m sure everyone and their grandma has read the full translation someone did on Twitter, but when I was reading through there were some things I didn’t really agree with. It might just be interpreter bias. Anyway, I hope this meets everyone’s expectations like Buster Bros!!! did!

Jakurai: Hey Hifumi-kun.

Hifumi: What up! Please, sit down. I’ll put some tea out.

Jakurai: If it’s not an issue.

Hifumi: Hm?

Jakurai: What’s wrong?

Hifumi: No, it’s nothing.

Doppo: Sorry you went out of your way to come here. This is a good place in case Hifumi and I bother you.

Jakurai: I’ve already finished my work for today so please don’t worry. Speaking of, Doppo-kun.

Ha…I’ll have to ask her directly. *dials phone*

Nemu: Thank you for your work. This is Nemu Aohitsugi with the Administrative Inspection Burea. Please connect me to Keitouin-san.

HYPNOSIS MICROPHONE 4TH INTERNATIONAL POLL (DECEMBER 2020) Part 1: Consumption

Thank you for your participation! These are the final results for the 4th Hypnosis Microphone International Poll. After months of work on this, we have estimates for general fandom opinions. Do you agree or disagree with the general opinions? Please let us know!

The results were held back from original posting as we were waiting to post for a month before the 2nd DRB finals (which is on Doppo’s Birthday this year.) My deepest apologies for how long this took to get out. We will be releasing these results with a section per day, with the end of these results showing the Japanese side.

PREFACE

The data collection for this poll received 902 votes to give us an indication of the demographic of those who consume Hypnosis Mic. This poll was open to English speakers, and thus, results may be considerably Euro/American-centric. The word ‘international’ has been used to refer to how fans are from many places around the world, but the poll may also refer to this group as ‘English-speaking’ etc. The Japanese poll had a smaller respondent pool with 400.

This poll received the most activity through Twitter, given that the series is most active on that platform. The poll was also posted on Tumblr, Facebook and the HypMic wiki. Commentary has been given on sections of the poll. These results will be available in full on from this account. The Japanese poll results shall follow about a week with comparison to this poll.

The poll was conducted from December 2020 to January 2021. This poll is UNOFFICIAL and none of the composers of this poll have any relation to King Records whatsoever. 

This will be split into MULTIPLE posts due to the amount of data and limitations of tumblr.

From this group of people, only 293 people, or 32.5% of respondents were around during the 1st Battle Season.

Looking at those who were around during the battle season 88.4% did not vote at all, while 11.6% did vote.

At the time of the 1st DRB, voting was only possible by buying CDs and certain merchandise, unlike the additions of the 2nd DRB where you could purchase a ticket to the lives.

These last are understandable as most food can’t be shipped internationally, as well as cosmetics like the perfume that contain alcohol.

Only 9.8% of respondents have a HYPSTER subscription.

55.6% of respondents know some degree of Japanese. This poll did not ask to quantify how much Japanese was known by fans. 44.4% do not know Japanese.

89.2% of respondents use translations.

How familiar are you with Japanese hip-hop, the genre of HypMic?

Regularly listens to J hip-hop: 22.8%

Regularly listens to Western hip-hop but not J hip-hop: 12%

Regularly listens to Japanese music but not J hip-hop: 54.5%

With numbers, we can see that:

34.8% of respondents listen to either Japanese or Western hip-hop. 65.2% of respondents do not listen to hip-hop.

These numbers seem to match up with the later results that show that 79% of respondents do not listen to J hip-hop artists outside of HypMic and 69% of respondents do not listen to/could list Western hip-hop artists at all.

In BAT's 2nd DRB song, I don't fvcking know what Jyushi said on those first seconds, but I'm already crying because of it. The song in general felt pretty intense to me, tbh.

I really need a translation, I need to know if the lyric tells us the reason why Jyushi is using his normal voice instead his v-kei persona voice (even if at the result that they're singing about potatoes and tomatoes).

But, maybe it's about him not wanting to hide anymore? I thought it will take more time to hear Jyushi using his high pitched voice in a song, but idk, I'm just throwing some random thoughts.
