Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #19
May 17-24 2024
President Biden wiped out the student loan debt of 160,000 more Americans. This debt cancellation of 7.7 billion dollars brings the total student loan debt relieved by the Biden Administration to $167 billion. The Administration has canceled student loan debt for 4.75 million Americans so far. The 160,000 borrowers forgiven this week owned an average of $35,000 each and are now debt free. The Administration announced plans last month to bring debt forgiveness to 30 million Americans with student loans coming this fall.
The Department of Justice announced it is suing Ticketmaster for being a monopoly. DoJ is suing Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation for monopolistic practices. Ticketmaster controls 70% of the live show ticket market leading to skyrocketing prices, hidden fees and last minute cancellation. The Justice Department is seeking to break up Live Nation and help bring competition back into the market. This is one of a number of monopoly law suits brought by the Biden administration against Apple in March and Amazon in September 2023.
The EPA announced $225 million in new funding to improve drinking and wastewater for tribal communities. The money will go to tribes in the mainland US as well as Alaska Native Villages. It'll help with testing for forever chemicals, and replacing of lead pipes as well as sustainability projects.
The EPA announced $300 million in grants to clean up former industrial sites. Known as "Brownfield" sites these former industrial sites are to be cleaned and redeveloped into community assets. The money will fund 200 projects across 178 communities. One such project will transform a former oil station in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood, currently polluted with lead and other toxins into a waterfront bike trail.
The Department of Agriculture announced a historic expansion of its program to feed low income kids over the summer holidays. Since the 1960s the SUN Meals have served in person meals at schools and community centers during the summer holidays to low income children. This Year the Biden administration is rolling out SUN Bucks, a $120 per child grocery benefit. This benefit has been rejected by many Republican governors but in the states that will take part 21 million kids will benefit. Last year the Biden administration introduced SUN Meals To-Go, offering pick-up and delivery options expanding SUN's reach into rural communities. These expansions are part of the Biden administration's plan to end hunger and reduce diet-related disease by 2030.
Vice-President Harris builds on her work in Africa to announce a plan to give 80% of Africa internet access by 2030, up from just 40% today. This push builds off efforts Harris has spearheaded since her trip to Africa in 2023, including $7 billion in climate adaptation, resilience, and mitigation, and $1 billion to empower women. The public-private partnership between the African Development Bank Group and Mastercard plans to bring internet access to 3 million farmers in Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria, before expanding to Uganda, Ethiopia, and Ghana, and then the rest of the continent, bring internet to 100 million people and businesses over the next 10 years. This is together with the work of Partnership for Digital Access in Africa which is hoping to bring internet access to 80% of Africans by 2030, up from 40% now, and just 30% of women on the continent. The Vice-President also announced $1 billion for the Women in the Digital Economy Fund to assure women in Africa have meaningful access to the internet and its economic opportunities.
The Senate approved Seth Aframe to be a Judge on the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, it also approved Krissa Lanham, and Angela Martinez to district Judgeships in Arizona, as well as Dena Coggins to a district court seat in California. Bring the total number of judges appointed by President Biden to 201. Biden's Judges have been historically diverse. 64% of them are women and 62% of them are people of color. President Biden has appointed more black women to federal judgeships, more Hispanic judges and more Asian American judges and more LGBT judges than any other President, including Obama's full 8 years in office. President Biden has also focused on backgrounds appointing a record breaking number of former public defenders to judgeships, as well as labor and civil rights lawyers.

Kaiju Week in Review (March 24-30, 2024)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A coworker asked tonight me how Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire measured up to Godzilla Minus One, and I responded, "Almost as good, but in a completely different way." If you like monsters (and if you're following me I have to assume you do), see it, no questions asked. There's about a million of them and they're all delightful. The franchise has long struggled to recapture the specific charms of the Showa era, and I think this comes closer than any of them. (It's the climactic tag-team battle... also Mothra returning to knock some sense into Godzilla). Pure junk food, but you can't just watch Oppenheimer all the time.
Tumblr media
Godzilla x Kong tore up the box office this weekend, performing well above expectations. Its $80 million opening Stateside was the second-best of the Monsterverse (after Godzilla). It added another $114 million internationally for the best overall opening of the (still-young) year. China was a big part of that with $44 million; giant monster movies are among the few Hollywood imports that still play well there. With a $135 million budget, lowest of the Monsterverse by a wide margin, it's a matter of when, not if, Legendary announces the next one.
Tumblr media
The Oxford English Dictionary has added an entry for tokusatsu, defined as "A genre of Japanese film or television entertainment characterized by the use of practical special effects, usually featuring giant monsters, transforming robots, and masked and costumed superheroes." It's part of a group of 23 freshly-acknowledged Japanese loan words; unclear if the timing is coincidental. Oh, and if you're curious, they added kaiju in 2018. As someone who remembers when the only English-speakers who used either word were in fandom, it's pretty wild to see.
Tumblr media
French company Extralucid Films will release Gappa on Blu-ray in June. The impressive-sounding bonus features are naturally all in French, but there's one that transcends language: 17 minutes of extra monster footage. The U.S. version of Gappa, Monster from a Prehistoric Planet, only has about 7 minutes worth of shots absent from the Japanese version, so I'm pretty curious about the other 10. It's also the first time this footage has been released in HD (Tokyo Shock blew it in 2020).
Tumblr media
Season 2 of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again is indeed receiving official English subtitles, starting the same day as the Japanese premiere, April 10. Godzilla Battle Line also added a hilariously busted joint Chibi Godzilla-Chibi Mechagodzilla unit, along with a Destoroyah variant. (Maybe Godzilla x Kong units are next month?)
Tumblr media
A new Monsterverse movie means new books to buy. The prequel comic Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted is out already (not recommended), but officially you'll have to wait until April 23 for the novelization and May 14 for the art book. Chalk that up to the late release date change, maybe. Unofficially, people are already getting the novelization from Amazon, because they're a monopoly that can afford to pay the fines from publishers for breaking street date. The audiobook version also released on the same day as the film. I don't have intel on what it adds and changes yet; adding everything from the film itself to Wikizilla is all I can handle right now.
Tumblr media
The San Francisco Giants are offering a Godzilla VIP Experience on May 17, a long-overdue acknowledgement of the savior of their city. Tickets are almost gone, though I think it's a shame that the promotion is opt-in to begin; what happened to giving these tchotchkes out to the first thousand fans? Well, figures that they'd make getting merch of the Minus One Godzilla in the States a hassle.

Title: The Wrong Amagi Wedding Chapters: 1/? (next) Genre: Comedy Summary: After being invited to their father's second marriage, Rinne and Hiiro find themselves having to temporarily return to the village. Not wanting their friends to be alone, the rest of Crazy:B and Alkaloid join them on their journey back, but these "city folks" might not be the only ones learning something new during this visit.
In this chapter.... Rinne receives a strange phone call from an unknown number during practice. The rest of Crazy:B find themselves wanting to stick their noses into his business.
It was practice as usual for Crazy:B. Meaning that everyone showed up late, talked for another ten minutes, and then began practice 30 minutes later than scheduled. They had just reached their Niki-sanctioned snack break when Kohaku noticed a buzzing noise coming from Rinne’s discarded jacket.
“Rinne, your phone is going off,” he said, as he leaned over to glance at the lit up screen.
“Who’s it from?” Rinne asked as he walked over, drying his hair with a small towel.
“Doesn’t say,” Kohaku looked down at the strange string of numbers, “The phone number looks real strange so it’s probably spam. See?” He lifted the phone to show the group.
Rinne stiffened at the sight, before giving an overexaggerated sigh and letting the towel drape over his neck. “That company really won’t stop calling to get us to take their job on HoldHands.”
He swiped the cell phone from Kohaku. “But as you know, being the leader means being responsible, so duty calls~,” Rinne said as he began walking out of the room to the hall, “You guys do what you want while I take this.”
The door clicked behind him.
“That was strange,” asked Kohaku, “I’m not just imagining things, right?”
“HiMERU agrees. Amagi is hiding something.” HiMERU put a hand to his chin as he contemplated the possibilities based on the evidence. “Perhaps he is hiding his phone calls with a dangerous loan shark who is threatening him to pay his debts before they turn to more gruesome methods.”
“Or maybe he’s hiding an affair with a mysterious lover!” postulated Kohaku. He looked over at Niki with pity, “Sorry, Niki.”
Niki, who had a granola bar in his mouth, bit down and began rapidly waving his hands as he made noises of denial. “No, no! What do you mean by sorry?! What Rinne does in his free time doesn’t matter to me. Besides, I don’t think it's either of those things.”
HiMERU switched his look of pity to one of curiosity. “Oh? Do elaborate, Shiina. Who do you think Amagi is talking to?”
Niki finished chewing his food while he hummed. “Well I don’t know the specifics, but the last time Rinne got all stressed like that over a random number was when his dad called him.”
“Rinne’s dad?!” exclaimed the others.
“That’s what I said when it happened,” said Niki, “We were just hanging out in the cafeteria kitchen after hours, since the one in the dorm was busy, when he got a call. He got all stiff when he picked up, and talked seriously with short answers. Afterwards, he told me it was his father looking for his input on village decisions, but it sounded like he wasn’t in the mood to talk about it then so I didn’t push.”
“Oh wow… Rinne’s father…” repeated Kohaku, “I forgot he was supposed to still be in contact with his family.”
“Cutting ties completely with family is tricky,” said HiMERU, “Family has a habit of finding you, wherever you are, and sneaking back into your life.”
Kohaku seemed saddened by these words but nodded. “That sounds about right.”
No one was quite sure how to move on from those dark words as they thought about their own families.
Thankfully, the door to the practice room slammed open soon enough, revealing Rinne. “Man, the mood here looks heavy. Did all of you miss your beloved Rinne-kyun that much? Kyahaha! I’m flattered.”
HiMERU glared at Rinne, regretting feeling even a touch of empathy towards the man, but Kohaku remained curious. “Was that really your father you were talking to, Rinne?”
Rinne’s eyebrows raised. “Hahhh? And what gave you that idea? I told you, I was just talking to a company looking to hire us to promote them.”
“Rinne, be real. This isn’t one of your better lies,” said Kohaku with a flat look, “Besides, Niki told us you’ve been talking on the phone with your father lately, so is it true? Or is it something else?”
Rinne combed his hand through his hair and sighed. “As much as it pains me to say this, yes. And while normally I’d just say everything is as boring as it ever is, there is an actual issue this time.”
The rest of Crazy:B became tense. “What’s the issue?” asked Kohaku, nervous about what the answer would mean for all of them.
“It’s not that serious, you guys. Crazy:B will be fine,” said Rinne, “I just need to take a week or two off to go to the village for a bit.”
He looked directly over at Niki. “Oh, and you need to come with me.”
“What?! Why do I have to come with you?” asked Niki, “This isn’t another of your strange plans to get me to marry you, right? I live in Japan so the laws of your village don’t apply to me.”
“I wish this was a plan to get you to marry me, but no. We aren’t the ones getting married this time. My father is.”
“Your father is getting married? What happened to your mother?” asked Kohaku.
“Died when I was a kid from illness, I think,” said Rinne, raising a hand to his chin in thought, “Hiiro was still a baby at the time so I was only about four or so when it happened. For once my father decided to treat me like a normal kid and shield me from the details, so I don’t really know what killed my mother.”
“I’m sorry about that.”
Rinne plastered on a wide smile. “Nah, don’t be! You can’t really miss who you didn’t really know. It happened like a really long time ago so it doesn’t really bother me anymore.”
Niki made a face at Rinne, but decided it wasn’t worth investigating in front of Kohaku and HiMERU. Besides, more importantly….
“That still doesn’t explain why I have to go with you?” he said.
“Is it wrong for a man to bring his wife as his plus one to a wedding?”
“I’m not your wife!”
“I cannot believe you would divorce me right before I go to my own father’s wedding. What am I supposed to tell them?”
Before Niki could retort back and drag out this conversation longer, HiMERU cut their routine off. They did have to go back to practice eventually. “Amagi. Please elaborate on the details of your request.”
“You’re no fun, MERUMERU, but whatever,” said Rinne as he returned his phone to his pocket, “My father appears to have taken a strange curiosity in what is keeping me and Hiiro here in the city. Hence the request to bring guests with us. Just another strange end-of-life request. So I plan to bring my beautiful wife and Hiiro will probably bring his little girlfriend along as his guest.”
“You mean Love-han will also go to your village?” asked Kohaku. He didn’t know a lot about Rinne’s village, but the little he did know made him nervous for his best friend’s sake. If the villagers were anything like Hiiro and Rinne, Aira would be in trouble. Kohaku still remembered how shrill Aira’s voice became as he complained about what Hiiro was going to do with one of ANIMALS circle’s chickens.
“Based on how tightly wound both of them are around the other’s fingers, most likely.”
Kohaku couldn’t let his innocent friend who shrieked when he saw a bug go into the woods alone without protection. “Rinne, could I come along too?”
Rinne looked surprised for a moment. “You really want to come to my village, Kohaku? I doubt the cell phone coverage is very good out there.”
“Someone needs to be there to protect Love-han from you and your brother’s stupidity. ” huffed Kohaku.
“Niki will be there too, you know?”
“.... Sorry Niki.”
Niki, who was still hungry and had moved on to eat a sandwich, looked up at the sound of his name, “Huh? Why ‘sorry Niki’ again? What’s going on?”
Rinne laughed. “Alright you got me there. How about you, MERU? Interested in learning about my mysterious backstory? We could make it a big bee family trip! Maybe the rest of Hiiro’s little group will want to come too and we could all enjoy a joint unit mission.”
On one hand, HiMERU was interested in learning about Rinne’s secrets. The older Amagi was secretive when it came to information about his past. On the other hand, the idea of going on a car trip with Rinne Amagi and The Tatsumi Kazehaya seemed like hell. So obviously HiMERU would have to—
“It could be nice to take a break for a bit,” said Kohaku, “It feels like we’ve only been getting together to work lately.”
“.... HiMERU will attend your father’s wedding. Should HiMERU bring a gift?” HiMERU could force himself to endure it.
“Nah, my father has a real hang up against ‘city’ things,” Rinne made air quotes with his hands, “I had to hide all the books I stole from the city up in a hole in a tree. Never bothered to look up there, but the birds certainly did.”
“Noted.”
“Well I’m going to go let Hiiro know he’s going to have to get some vacation days for him and his girlfriend,” said Rinne as he waved on his way to the door.
“Wait, Amagi. We still have practice—”
“Byeee~!”
♠♡♢♣🐝♣♢♡♠
To Rinne’s mild annoyance, Hiiro seemed excited to return to the village for their father’s wedding once Rinne reassured Hiiro that he would not order the village to attack him if he entered. Not that Rinne ever got a chance to share that scare tactic order with anyone other than his brother.
When Rinne mentioned that the rest of his unit would be joining them, Hiiro’s eyes widened as he began to fidget.
“If the rest of your unit mates want, father said they would be welcome to attend the wedding as our guests,” said Rinne, taking a guess at what his brother wanted to ask.
Hiiro’s eyes lit up as he smiled. Rinne internally sighed.
“I’ll ask my unit if they want to join us right away!”
Rinne’s lip quirked upwards into an uneven grin. “Knowing your friends, I’m sure they’ll love to see where we came from.”
Hiiro began rapidly talking about all the things they could show everyone when they return, but Rinne’s mind drifted away. Despite the innocent appearance of the event, Rinne knew to stay on his guard. He’d learned the art of strategy from someone, after all.
Alas, one can only run for so long. Rinne could see the risk he took by declining the invitation would not be worth the consequences. The best course of action would be to accept on his terms, and keep an eye on the villagers. No matter what, Rinne would put his life on the line to make sure his friends and Hiiro made it back to ES intact.
It probably wouldn’t come to that, but it was better to play it safe with the stakes so high. Rinne was not about to let Hiiro throw his future away because of a dirty trick.

ao3 link || series masterlist || main masterlist
The dough you were gently folding baker’s chocolate into was cool against your fingers, your hands working the dough on the island counter in Frankie’s kitchen. He had run up to shower, but you suspected he wanted to tidy things upstairs as well before you ventured up to that part of the house later.
His house was cute, settled into a neighborhood on the cusp of what considered midtown for the city. It was a good twenty-minute drive with early afternoon traffic, surely it would be longer in the evenings when he normally took the route back home. It was a two-story home, a guest room downstairs tucked into the back, a half-bath / laundry room, with a semi open kitchen and living room layout. You assumed the remaining two rooms were upstairs and a full bathroom or two.
The colors of the house were muted, nothing too bold or bright. A lot of warm shades that you could see Frankie picking the precise shade of in order to paint his home. He had been here the entirety of his daughter’s life, having taken out a loan with the help of the Army when he had discovered he was to be a father. He mentioned that Lucy had only been here the last half of her pregnancy and then a few months after giving birth, making her exit before she had made a home here.
The thought both broke your heart and brought you a sense of comfort.
Warm hands wrapped around your middle, the soft padding of bare feet on the tile alerting you to your company. You hummed as you felt Frankie rest his forehead on the back of your neck, leaning down over you a bit to do so. His mouth placed chaste kisses to the top of your spine, sprinkling them over the skull with horns that decorated the skin there. His hands spanned wide as he stretched out his palms underneath your baggy shirt, the shorts you were wearing soft and the waistband no longer tight on your body. His pinkies delved underneath the band, igniting sparks of warmth and pleasure in you that had you arching back into him.
Nipping your skin before pulling away, he spoke quietly in your ear.
“You look really good in my kitchen, sweet girl.”
Your hands stopped working the dough in front of you, concentration and thoughts broken as he moved his hands lower to palm at the front of your hips, right over where he could feel a scar he hadn’t thought much of until your history had been revealed to him. His hands had dipped below the fabric of your underwear. It was mostly hidden within the petals of a detailed chrysanthemum, the piece spanning from the front of your hip, the entire side of it, and the outer most edges of your ass. It was mirrored on the other hip, the piece you had been showing off to the bartender back when Taylor had been visiting.
“Frankie, these have to get in the oven or we won’t have any desert.”
“I’ve got my desert right here,” His right hand moved to tease your slit, feeling how wet you had gotten in just the few moments he had been in the room with you. You moaned as he dipped two fingers in, sliding them along your seam, teasing at your entrance. “Seems like there’s plenty for me to have a good taste. You’re absolutely dripping for me.”
Your hands gripped the edge of the island counter as he rubbed slow circles on your clit, eliciting a needy moan from you. The pads of his fingers were deliciously rough, and he knew you loved the way his hands felt on your skin. Your head fell back to rest on his shoulder, his mouth coming down to whisper in your ear.
“Finish traying up the cookies.” His tone had shifted, he was telling you, not asking. It was something he hadn’t done yet, taking control of the situation completely. Mostly he had just been willing to be a part of what you two shared, not taking command but the sight of you in his house, in his space, in his shirt. It was doing something to him. He continued to rub slow circles on the throbbing bundle of nerves, his own hips flush with your backside now. You could feel the hard line of him through the thin shorts he had on. You were willing to bet he had forgone underwear.
His other hand rose to palm one of your breasts, fingers finding the bud there and pulling on it. You let out a startled huff that turned into a moan when he pinched it hard.
You nodded, hands releasing their tight grasp on the counter and moving back to the dough. Frankie bit down on side of your neck, his teeth prickling your skin. His hands stopped their intoxicating movements.
“Nu-uh, need a verbal confirmation from you.”
“Y-yes, sir.”
“Hmm, that’s it.” You let out a choked sound when he began to rub at your clit again, with more pressure this time. His tongue swiped hot up the side of your neck, your head bowing over as you tried to concentrate on forming even portions of the dough to place atop the greased tray. When you placed the first one atop the dark metal, Frankie’s hand that had been playing with your breast came down to shuck off your shorts and underwear. They fell to the floor and you quickly stepped out of them.
“Spread your legs for me, be a good girl for me.”
“Yes, sir.” As you did so his rough fingers didn’t stop steadily moving against your clit, and you could feel slick begin to trail down the inside of your thighs. You nearly dropped the next portion of dough when you heard the hush of his own shorts falling to the floor. There was a deep groan that rumbled behind you when you felt yourself flutter at the implications, a couple of drops of your arousal leaking down onto the discarded fabric at your feet.
“Fuck, you’re such a good girl. Showing me how excited you are for me, aren’t you? You’re drippin’ all over my kitchen floor, querida.” You let out a stuttered gasp as his hand not working you swiped through your folds and collected some of the slick. Your knees nearly buckled when you heard him suck on those same fingers, a dirty moan falling from him at the taste. Surely, he could feel the throbbing of your clit underneath his fingers still connected to you.
“Is your leg strong enough for me to fuck you up against this counter, baby girl?” He asked, as he gripped his hard length tight and brough it to rest between your cheeks. He didn’t move, just laid it there for you to feel the hot, long line of him. He was waiting for an answer.
“Yes, please. Sir, I need you.” Your voice was a whine, you didn’t care. You had just had him, twice at your place before the store. Your body had been humming the entire time you watched as Frankie had taken his time picking out a good cut of steaks from the butcher, the best brussels he could find in the produce section, the best potatoes for the sides. Watched in simmering anticipation as he had debated between heavy whipping cream and what kind of sauce he wanted to make for the meal. It had been intoxicating, being that domestic with the tall, broad man like that. To see him out in public, to be out in public with him.
Women had been watching him, looking him up and down to take in the way his faded jeans and simple t-shirt had fit him. The movement of his biceps against the taut fabric of his sleeves, the way his butt looked simply divine behind the pockets of his pants. The hat that had tamped down over his curls, the longer strands reached out from underneath it and begged for hands to run through. His hands had kept coming back to you then, simple guiding touches to the small of your back. A gentle caress up and down your arm as you waited for him to decide what would be best out of what he needed.
When you had stumbled a bit at a rather sharp pull on your stitches, still present and heavily bandaged, he had bent down right there in the middle of the aisle and placed a chaste kiss to the top of them, his hands skimming your legs in careful reverence. He had to have known the trembles of your nerves had been from him kneeling down in front of you, not from the pain. He had looked up at you, to see the deep flush on your neck and the hungry look in your eyes before he stood and you had to knock your head back to continue staring at him. He had brought a hand up to nudge at his bottom lip, his tongue peaking out to wet it.
He had moved in closer to you, caging you against the handle of the cart you had been pushing for extra support. You were sure had had been about to swoop down and capture your own lips with his as someone cleared their throat and said excuse me before reaching for something directly where you were both standing. Your eyes broke away from his to offer a small apology to the stranger and you whipped around to move the cart carefully out of the way and down the aisle. You caught a woman’s eyes as you passed her, her own face pink as she gripped a can of something tight in her hands. You could feel her eyes on you as you felt Frankie’s hand rest on you to help you continue throughout the store and to the checkout lane.
You had liked it, you had liked the charge in the air as you shopped alongside him. Had been seen with him, the intensity with which had nearly taken over you both. Heat pooled in your middle, expanding out in pleasured tingles down your legs now and up into your chest as you felt Frankie begin to rut against the seam of you. His length parted you, swiping between your folds and you could feel how he throbbed and twitched as he reveled in how wet you were.
“Fuck, sweet girl, you’re always so good for me.”
“Only for you, sir, anything for you.”
“Would you have let me take you in that store? While all those silly, jealous women watched? All those watching, dirty men palming themselves to the sight of you taking my cock in the middle of that aisle, pressed up against the shelves?” The tip of him caught on your entrance, and he pushed in, shallowly thrusting. He wasn’t giving you all of him, just teasing you open a little, waiting on an answer.
“Fuck, Frankie, yes.”
He bottomed out in one thrust. You choked out a moan, voice high and euphoric. You both stilled, taking in the stretch of him filling you up so completely. Your hands moved to tray up a few more portions of dough, his command still floating around your mind distantly. Little pants that dissolved to whimpers when he would twitch that deep inside you had him reaching his hands around to rest on the lip of the counter, caging you in a way that made your heartbeat thud hard in your chest.
“Fuck, sweet girl, you make the best sounds for me.”
“Please. Please move, sir.” You begged, not caring how high your voice was, you were practically keening for him. You were clenching around him hard, you could feel the slickness of your combined arousal where you were both connected and how it was sneaking down between your thighs in a wet trail. You don’t think you’ve ever gotten this wet with anyone before. Your mind was humming his name on repeat like a prayer.
Frankie. Frankie. Frankie.
He didn’t move, his knuckles white on the edge of the counter beside you.
“Finish the cookies, be a good girl.”
You hurriedly balled up the last bit of dough into portions and nearly threw them onto the tray in front of you. They weren’t as evenly spaced as the others, and Frankie tutted behind you, his mouth coming down to whisper in your ear that you could do better. You hastily fixed the spacing and arched your back, shimmying your hips back to urge him into moving. You moved your hips in a circular motion, leaning heavily on your arms as you braced yourself on the clear counter space now in front of you. Your shirt was lifted up and off, your chest meeting the coolness of the marble beneath you. Your nipples hardened at the sensation, goosebumps sprouted along your back.
“Fransisco, please.”
“Oh fuck.”
He pulled out a bit only to slam back in and grind his hips into you, mimicking your earlier circular motions. His head caught that ridged spot deep inside you and you melted onto the counter even more, keening whines pushed through your chest as your breath escaped in pants. He was moving against you in hard, deep movements, moving just fast enough to stoke the rapidly approaching orgasm that was low in your belly.
The kitchen filled with the needy sounds you were making, the wet sounds of Frankie moving against you, and the unfiltered moans the man was letting out as he moved to press a hand lightly to your back and press you down into the counter. The other hand came to hold your hip, gripping tight, his fingers grazing the scar there underneath your tattoo. His eyes racked over you decorated back, and leaned down to place sucking kisses along every inch he could reach.
Your orgasm hit you so hard you felt the air rush out of your lungs in a shout, startling you with how it was suddenly sending waves of pleasure over your heated skin. You looked over your shoulder and reveled in the sight of Frankie still pounding into you, leading you through the whole thing, thrusting just as hard and deep to chase his own despite how tightly you were clenching around him. You whined when he pushed you down with a little more force. Though he brought his eyes to meet yours, his brow furrowed and sweat dampening the curls on his forehead, his plush lips were parted as he panted. God, he looked so good and he was yours.
His eyes turned hazy and he frantically asked you where you wanted him, his hips faltering as his own pleasure heightened and was about to snap.
“Where, sweet girl, where?”
“Inside, please, sir, inside!” You whined, wanting to feel him, all of him. You fluttered around his cock at the mere thought of him filling you up. He grunted at the sensation, it was throwing him over the edge he was already so very close to.
“Fuck, okay, be a good girl and take it all for me, okay?” He slammed into you completely, bottomed out and his hips were flush with the back of your thighs. His teeth were suddenly digging into your shoulder, the skin pricking where he had broken the skin with his canines. You felt the hot ropes of his release paint your insides and you moaned at the feeling of it. Your eyes fluttered closed as you pushed back onto him, circling your hips to coach out every last drop from him.
When you stood back up to your full height and turned around to face him, your expression was enamoring. You looked so blissed out, lips red from where you had been worrying them with your teeth, cheeks and neck flushed a deep pink underneath the tan of your skin, eyes blown wide and gazing at him as if he hung the moon. Your glasses had been taken off and you gently perched them back atop the bridge of your nose. Frankies arms came around your back to help keep you up, your legs trembling from the pleasure.
His release slowly trailed down the insides of your thighs, making you feel some type of way.
He leaned down and licked away the errant chocolate chips that had melted into the skin of your breasts and chest as he had held you down to the counter. You moaned as his tongue moved hot against your skin, prickling pleasure that was already cascading slowly over you spiked but you were too tired for it to anything beyond that.
-
“What time is your appointment tomorrow?” Frankie finished what he was doing to the plates and brought them over to the table. He had already poured a glass of wine for you each, red, to go with the steak.
“In the morning, they’re going to check on the stitches and my range of movement.” You took a bite of the steak already cut into pieces to show off the middle of it, it was perfectly cooked and placed atop a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus. A shallot and peppercorn cream sauce was drizzled on top of it, and it looked amazing. You moaned around the bite you had taken, turning surprised eyes to Frankie across the table. He was watching you avidly, his own bite halfway to his mouth.
“That sounded a lot like the way you moan when I’m deep inside you, sweet girl. Any correlation?” He teased, a cheeky smirk displaying the dimple he had on the right side of his face. You swatted your hand at him, turning away to chew the rest of your bite. Your gaze caught the drawings held to the front of the fridge with magnets. They were all so adorable. Very much like the one that was secured to the front of your own fridge back at your apartment.
You didn’t look back at him, feigning that you didn’t hear him and he chuckled at you as he took a sip from his wine glass. You tapped the screen of your phone beside you on the top of the table beside your own. The fork in your hand clattered down as you gasped at the notification that displayed on it.
“Oy dios mío.” You quickly snatched your phone up and walked away from the table, bringing it up to your ear as you did so. Frankie was standing up with you, but you tossed him one of the brightest smiles he had ever seen and waved him back to the table. You were gone, across the threshold and in the living room for a few minutes. Your professional voice wafting into the kitchen and Frankie wondered what had you so excited.
When you came back to the room, you practically skipped over to him and settled in his lap, your arms going around his shoulders as you laid your legs out over him. You peppered his face with little kissed as laughter bubbled up.
“What is it, sweet girl?” Frankie held tight to your back, his other hand coming to rest atop your injured leg so it didn’t jostle at your wiggling.
“I put up flyers around some of the nicer bars of the area and Morgan told all her friends about it. The event I’m having tomorrow, the one with the cocktail and desert pairings? A local food critic emailed me and said she wanted to attend!”
“Cariño, that's...that's incredible! The farmer’s market article and now this? You’re doing such a good job, querida, you deserve all of this.” His plush lips captured yours as he leaned in and his hands tightened their hold on you.
You were giddy throughout the rest of dinner, gushing over the details of tomorrow. His boss had given him tasks to complete around town, collection orders from local places and parts they had to order for certain repairs, so he was going to help you get the last of the stuff you needed as well. After the appointment of course, he was going with you in case they decided to give you a shots of either a muscle relaxer or a painkiller.
The shop was going to be closed during the day due to the event, something you struggled with deciding. But you admitted to him you might be closing it for a few days here and there while you interviewed and hired two more people to help with the influx of business so you could focus solely on the baking yourself.
You both settled on the couch after cleaning up and packing away the leftovers from dinner. Fresh cookies and a scoop of ice cream in a bowl you both shared in front of a cheesy shark movie. Frankie kept trying to point out how the logistics didn’t make any sense and you gasped every time the very obviously not real shark suddenly appeared on the screen, falling for the jump scares so easily it was endearing. You shared sticky kisses throughout the movie.
-
Will was a little late, an apology on his lips as he pressed a greeting kiss to your temple and offered you something that was wrapped in a beautiful display. The sun had already begun to set, the others having arrived at the shop an hour or so ago to help you get everything situated and make sure you were good yourself. The doctor had opted to keep the stitches in another week, something you hadn’t been too excited about. But the rest of your leg had been healing well enough that you no longer had to wrap it, just make sure it got the twice daily spray of antibiotic solution and then scar cream if you felt the need to.
“We all chipped in, got a fresh print from the office and had them do it on a slightly larger scale.”
You noticed his friend behind him, hands cupped in front of him as he waited for an introduction. He was the dad that frequented your shop on Friday’s during the school year, the one who had been with Will the day you had gotten injured at the gym, the one who had asked you out and given you his card…
“Open it, manté!” Benny clapped his hands together, excited to see your reaction to the gift.
Tears pricked at your eyes as you carefully tore the paper along the seams of where it was taped together. You could see the shiny glass of a frame and as you removed the wrapping in one shift, a fresh printing of the farmer’s market article detailing your bakery faced you underneath it. The frame was beautiful, an ornate dark gray one. You rain your fingers over the details of it, blinking back tears as you looked up at the smiling faces around you.
“You guys…”
“Do you love it, or do you love it?” Pope chirped as he hugged you from behind, his hands coming to rest over yours as you still gripped the frame tight.
“You’re gonna make me ruin my makeup.” You warbled as you felt the other three move in to hug you as well, creating a safe haven in all of their arms around you and each other as they celebrated your success. It was a lot. It was so a lot. But you were happy. Here in this new state, with this bakery you always thought had been a pipe dream, with a man who you adored and adored you back, with a group of friends who accepted you into their click as easily as breathing.
You could feel Frankie sneak a hand around one of yours and give it a squeeze.
After waving them all off and rubbing a careful finger underneath your eye, you placed the frame behind the counter for safe keeping. You would decide where to hang it in the shop later. You had Pope play around with the settings of the lights, the exposed bulbs over the small tables already on the warmer side but wanting everything to be just right.
“Hey, I invited Mark here. Hope that was okay, I know you’re a little hesitant around new people but he’s a decent guy. Going through a divorce right now, found his wife with his best friend.” Will approached you, glancing over at Mark who was talking easily with Benny.
“Of course, Will. I don’t mind at all. I made so much extra in case people who didn’t register wanted to drop by or saw the flyers and decided last minute to check it out.” You smiled at him, taking in the way he was wringing his hands together in front of him. “And Lucianna should still be coming, right? Second date?”
“Third, actually.” He rubbed at the back of his head as he looked down at the nice pair of dress boots he had on. He was in clean, dark gray slacks paired with a faded band tee and a black blazer. Very polished and it was a good look on him. “Took her out the other night to that bar you were telling me about, with the empress gin?”
“Exciting!” You swatted lightly at him, glancing over at Frankie across the room. He was behind the counter, messing with something in the display case. He glanced up, maybe he had felt your gaze on him and his lips pulled into a small grin.
“What’s going on with you two? Fish get his head outta his ass yet?” He followed you over to where you had set up a tall bar cart. It was laden with bottles you were going to use tonight to make the cocktails, on the shelves underneath the bar top, you had stacked the various glasses you had ordered for the occasion. Wanting to display the drinks in proper, beautiful glassware. You had mason jars of dried fruits and flowers to use as garnishes on some of the drinks as well.
“He made me a lovely dinner last night, thank you very much.” You tossed the man a soft smile, grateful that he didn’t shout it out and get the others riled up. He leaned in close and spoke softly to you, not wanting to garner any attention.
“He’s a good guy, manté, just a little shy is all.”
You hummed in response, you were about to say something else when the alarm on your phone chirped and the front door opened with a jingle of the bell overhead.
Two couples walked in, smiles all around. Benny easily took their names down and guided them to a table that had a printed and displayed menu of what was offered tonight. People piled into the bakery shop after that in a steady flow. The food critic had brought a friend along, something she had mentioned in her email in order to take photos of the offerings. She had been honest with you and said she wasn’t sure if she would print the event or not quite yet, but you were slightly nervous, nonetheless. Everything had been curated and paired by your own hands, you were worried about how you played with the flavor profiles of things and if they would come across the way you wanted to everyone who had shown interest.
After a moment of everyone getting settled into their small tables and even some at the tall standing tables where the couches and coffee table typically were. You removed the apron you were wearing and handed it to a waiting Frankie, his had held out to take it from you. The removal of it revealed the full view of a gorgeous jade colored dress that was patterned with silver velvet inlay. It had short, flowy sleeves and the hem was long and fell to the tops of your chunky heeled boots. Your hair had been pulled back in a clip, small braids taming some of your curlier pieces of hair. You had small pins that had silver jeweled stars keeping your curtain bangs back from your face.
“Good evening and welcome! I’m so excited to play host to this little pairing event. We’ve got a good number of them to go through and recipes are available upon request should you enjoy any of them enough. Let’s begin with a play on an espresso martini paired with a rich banana bread….”

Things about America that would give Europeans a heart attack.
Many Americans are expected to drive AN HOUR to work every day. Europeans don't even visit their mom regularly if she lives 30 minutes away.
We measure distance traveled in time. Because sometimes driving 15 miles can take as long as driving 45 miles. How long you'll be in a vehicle is most important.
Zoning laws. Many of us actually do like to walk. Our major cities were designed by automotive lobbyists to force us to buy cars.
Food deserts. There's some places in America with literally zero grocery stores within 5 miles of your home.
Hospital bills. 1 emergency room visit can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Not to mention the $15,000 of you need an ambulance.
Mental health. You can be forced into grippy sock jail against your will. Then stuck with a bill that costs tens of thousands of dollars when you get out.
Speaking of medical bills. Credit reports. Remember that medical bill that costs tens of thousands of dollars? That goes on your credit report if you can't pay it. Which makes it harder to rent, buy a house, buy a car, or get a credit card.
Retirement. You can't get social security until you're 62 and social security isn't enough to live on. You're supposed to be saving money to retire on, on top of that. And based on your family's health history and cost of living. It's not unusual to need $1-2 million to retire. And it's not unusual for people to have to work into their 80s.
College. A hundred thousand dollars in student loan debt isn't unheard of and many Americans are never able to pay it off in their lifetime because interest is like 5-8%. Also. That goes on your credit report.
Minimum wage. I don't necessarily believe that Europeans would be shocked that minimum wage doesn't cover the cost of living here. But there's people that live here that are suprised to find out our minimum wage is $7.20. I've gotten into arguments over this, several times. If Americans don't believe it, how can I expect a European to?
Lack of public transit. Only like, major cities have public transit, and only a few of them have reliable public transit.
Lack of labor unions and union busting. Many European countries like France will go on nation wide strikes if an oligarch sneezes wrong. Companies in America will shut down business in entire states if the unions are getting too strong. Honestly I'm kinda surprised that we don't strike more.
Lack of paid vacation time. In a lot of countries 6 weeks is like normal. My last job I got none. And people legitimately didn't believe me when I said I had to work on Christmas or not get paid (yeah, it was a desk job). Again. If Americans can't believe it. Why would I expect Europeans to? Also I feel like Europeans would just die from the burnout because it's not uncommon for Americans to literally work themselves to death.
No. For real. I have people mad at me because I couldn't go to a family friend's wedding because they didn't believe I didn't have labor day off.

((Quick OOC post, and hopefully the last one I need to say about this recent drama in my personal life for a while. In the aftermath of this stupid fucking adventure, we still have to find a place to live long-term and get unpacked.
((Once I'm good and used to working 7AM to 3:30PM again, and this emotional bullshit's smoothed over, I can get back to having fun hobbies and put some more time into RP again!
((SO! What's happening to Mick! Bullet-points edition, as little word-salad as possible (I'm a prosy kinda fruitcake):
In April we found out mom had been "robbing Peter to pay Paul," and in doing so had racked-up a 16,000 dollah electric bill.
That happened at the same time the landlady wanted to send an appraiser to the house to assess value and damage, because she and her siblings want to sell it so they can pay to put their mother in a retirement home (I have strong opinions on that).
They never communicated with us, never even offered to transfer all the money we'd already paid in rent towards, you know, buying it ourselves.
They actually were kinda dickheads about it, but it's also fine because that house is a money-pit and they deserve each-other.
Mom bullshits the electric company, the landlady doesn't immediately kick us out, but we keep slowly packing anyway.
Eviction Notice in June, extended until the 28th of August.
Things keep getting heated, blame keeps getting thrown around.
The tension keeps rising to a boil. Lots of things get left behind in the move, personal items, valuable items. My plants had to be packed into a blue-box, likely dead by now.
Dad's work puts us up in Air B&B's until we can get into a house he's trying to buy. Dad gets a loan and a realtor, and finds out that Florida is a "Spousal State," meaning he can't get a house without his wife signing for it. Their marriage is on the fritz and has been for fifteen years (at this state, this thing was fucked as soon as they said "I Do.") but he was willing to sign a contract for the next 30 years with her anyway.
Things keep getting heated and mom's grip on everyone keeps fraying further. Moving five animals and four humans (one of whom is borderline immobile and infirm) takes two trips to Gettysburg, and then two trips to Florida.
The tension rises again, mom calls dad's job to try and cow him. She'd tried that once before, fifteen years ago when they almost divorced before, and back then dad told her that, "if you ever do that again, I'm getting a divorce."
I get a job super fucking fast and already put in eightish hours
Dad and I have to take off yesterday in order for him to finally drive mom back north. She takes the smallest dog, leaving her other dog with me and dad and jay (sibling), because she can barely take care of the small baby let alone both babies.
Dad will be driving back down to florida soon,
And the rest of our lives will, I guess, start.
He also asked his realtor to help us find a rental that'll take two medium-sized dogs and two small cats.
TL;DR- Mom and dad have been fighting in a flawed marriage from the minute they put rings on, their kids have been caught in the middle and it derailed our adult lives, but the (failed) move provided the final straw that broke the camel's back, and now mom is gone and we have to get on with our lives,
and I'm too numb about it to really feel happy or sad.

A blackmail scam is using instant loan apps to entrap and humiliate people across India and other countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. At least 60 Indians have killed themselves after being abused and threatened. A BBC undercover investigation has exposed those profiting from this deadly scam in India and China.
Astha Sinhaa woke up to her aunt's panicked voice on the phone. "Don't let your mother leave the house."
Half-asleep, the 17-year-old was terrified to find her mum Bhoomi Sinhaa in the next room, sobbing and frantic.
Here was her funny and fearless mother, a respected Mumbai-based property lawyer, a widow raising her daughter alone, reduced to a frenzied mess.
"She was breaking apart," Astha says. A panicked Bhoomi started telling her where all the important documents and contacts were, and seemed desperate to get out of the door.
Astha knew she had to stop her. "Don't let her out of your sight," her aunt had told her. "Because she will end her life."
Astha knew her mother had been getting some weird calls and that she owed somebody money, but she had no idea that Bhoomi was reeling from months of harassment and psychological torture.
She had fallen victim to a global scam with tentacles in at least 14 countries that uses shame and blackmail to make a profit - destroying lives in the process.
The business model is brutal but simple. There are many apps that promise hassle-free loans in minutes. Not all of them are predatory. But many - once downloaded - harvest your contacts, photos and ID cards, and use that information later to extort you. When customers don't repay on time - and sometimes even when they do - they share this information with a call centre where young agents of the gig economy, armed with laptops and phones are trained to harass and humiliate people into repayment.
At the end of 2021, Bhoomi had borrowed about 47,000 rupees ($565; £463) from several loan apps while she waited for some work expenses to come through. The money arrived almost immediately but with a big chunk deducted in charges. Seven days later she was due to repay but her expenses still hadn't been paid, so she borrowed from another app and then another. The debt and interest spiralled until she owed about two million rupees ($24,000; £19,655).
Soon the recovery agents started calling. They quickly turned nasty, slamming Bhoomi with insults and abuse. Even when she had paid, they claimed she was lying. They called up to 200 times a day. They knew where she lived, they said, and sent her pictures of a dead body as a warning.
As the abuse escalated they threatened to message all of the 486 contacts in her phone telling them she was a thief and a whore. When they threatened to tarnish her daughter's reputation too, Bhoomi could no longer sleep.
She borrowed from friends, family and more and more apps - 69 in total. At night, she prayed the morning would never come. But without fail at 07:00, her phone would start pinging and buzzing incessantly.
Eventually, Bhoomi had managed to pay back all of the money, but one app in particular - Asan Loan - wouldn't stop calling. Exhausted, she couldn't concentrate at work and started having panic attacks.
One day a colleague called her over to his desk and showed her something on his phone - a naked, pornographic picture of her.
The photo had been crudely photoshopped, Bhoomi's head stuck on someone else's body, but it filled her with disgust and shame. She collapsed by her colleague's desk. It had been sent by Asan Loan to every contact in her phone book. That was when Bhoomi thought of killing herself.
We've seen evidence of scams like this run by various companies all over the world. But in India alone, the BBC has found at least 60 people have killed themselves after being harassed by loan apps.
Most were in their 20s and 30s - a fireman, an award-winning musician, a young mum and dad leaving behind their three- and five-year-old daughters, a grandfather and grandson who got involved in loan apps together. Four were just teenagers.
Most victims are too ashamed to speak about the scam, and the perpetrators have remained, for the most part, anonymous and invisible. After looking for an insider for months, the BBC managed to track down a young man who had worked as a debt recovery agent for call centres working for multiple loan apps.
Rohan - not his real name - told us he had been troubled by the abuse he had witnessed. Many customers cried, some threatened to kill themselves, he said. "It would haunt me all night." He agreed to help the BBC expose the scam.
He applied for a job in two different call centres - Majesty Legal Services and Callflex Corporation - and spent weeks filming undercover.
His videos captured young agents harassing clients. "Behave or I will smash you," one woman says, swearing. She accuses the customer of incest and, when he hangs up, she starts laughing. Another suggests the client should prostitute his mother to repay the loan.
Rohan recorded over 100 incidents of harassment and abuse, capturing this systematic extortion on camera for the first time.
The worst abuse he witnessed took place at Callflex Corporation, just outside Delhi. Here, agents routinely used obscene language to humiliate and threaten customers. These were not rogue agents going off-script - they were supervised and directed by managers at the call centre, including one called Vishal Chaurasia.
Rohan gained Chaurasia's trust, and together with a journalist posing as an investor, arranged a meeting at which they asked him to explain exactly how the scam works.
When a customer takes out a loan, he explained, they give the app access to the contacts on their phone. Callflex Corporation is hired to recover the money - and if the customer misses a payment the company starts hassling them, and then their contacts. His staff can say anything, Chaurasia told them, as long as they get a repayment.
"The customer then pays because of the shame," he said. "You'll find at least one person in his contact list who can destroy his life."
We approached Chaurasia directly but he did not want to comment. Callflex Corporation did not respond to our efforts to contact them.
One of the many lives destroyed was Kirni Mounika's.
The 24-year-old civil servant was the brains of her family, the only student at her school to get a government job, a doting sister to her three brothers. Her father, a successful farmer, was ready to support her to do a masters in Australia.
The Monday she took her own life, three years ago, she had hopped on her scooter to go to work as usual.
"She was all smiles," her father, Kirni Bhoopani, says.
It was only when police reviewed Mounika's phone and bank statements that they found out she had borrowed from 55 different loan apps. It started with a loan of 10,000 rupees ($120; £100) and spiralled to more than 30 times that. By the time she decided to kill herself, she had paid back more than 300,000 rupees ($3,600; £2,960).
Police say the apps harassed her with calls and vulgar messages - and had started messaging her contacts.
Mounika's room is now a makeshift shrine. Her government ID card hangs by the door, the bag her mum packed for a wedding still lying there.
The thing that upsets her father the most is that she hadn't told him what was going on. "We could have easily arranged the money," he says, wiping tears from his eyes.
He's furious at the people who did this.
As he was taking his daughter's body home from the hospital her phone rang and he answered to an obscenity-laden rant. "They told us she has to pay," he says. "We told them she was dead."
He wondered who these monsters could be.
Hari - not his real name - worked at a call centre doing recovery for one of the apps Mounika had borrowed from. The pay was good but by the time Mounika died he was already feeling uneasy about what he was part of.
Although he claims not to have made abusive calls himself - he says he was in the team that made initial polite calls - he told us managers instructed staff to abuse and threaten people.
The agents would send messages to a victim's contacts, painting the victim as a fraud and a thief.
"Everyone has a reputation to maintain in front of their family. No-one is going to spoil that reputation for the measly sum of 5,000 rupees," he says.
Once a payment had been made the system would ping "Success!" and they would move on to the next client.
When clients started threatening to take their own lives nobody took it seriously - then the suicides started happening. The staff called their boss, Parshuram Takve, to ask if they should stop.
The following day Takve appeared in the office. He was angry. "He said, 'Do what you're told and make recoveries,'" Hari says. So they did.
A few months later, Mounika was dead.
Takve was ruthless. But he wasn't running this operation alone. Sometimes, Hari says, the software interface would switch to Chinese without warning.
Takve was married to a Chinese woman called Liang Tian Tian. Together, they had set up the loan recovery business, Jiyaliang, in Pune, where Hari worked.
In December 2020, Takve and Liang were arrested by police investigating a case of harassment and released on bail a few months later.
In April 2022 they were charged with extortion, intimidation and abetment of suicide. By the end of the year they were on the run.
We couldn't track down Takve. But when we investigated the apps Jiyaliang worked for, it led us to a Chinese businessman called Li Xiang.
He has no online presence, but we found a phone number linked to one of his employees and, posing as investors, set up a meeting with Li.
With his face shoved uncomfortably close to the camera, he bragged about his businesses in India.
"We are still operating now, just not letting Indians know we are a Chinese company," he said.
Back in 2021, two of Li's companies had been raided by Indian police investigating harassment by loan apps. Their bank accounts had been frozen.
"You need to understand that because we aim to recover our investment quickly, we certainly don't pay local taxes, and the interest rates we offer violate local laws," he says.
Li told us his company has its own loan apps in India, Mexico and Colombia. He claimed to be an industry leader in risk control and debt collection services in South East Asia, and is now expanding across Latin America and Africa - with more than 3,000 staff in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India ready to provide "post-loan services".
Then he explained what his company does to recover loans.
"If you don't repay, we may add you on WhatsApp, and on the third day, we will call and message you on WhatsApp at the same time, and call your contacts. Then, on the fourth day, if your contacts don't pay, we have specific detailed procedures.
"We access his call records and capture a lot of his information. Basically, it's like he's naked in front of us."
Bhoomi Sinha could handle the harassment, the threats, the abuse and the exhaustion - but not the shame of being linked to that pornographic image.
"That message actually stripped me naked in front of the entire world," she says. "I lost my self-respect, my morality, my dignity, everything in a second."
It was shared with lawyers, architects, government officials, elderly relatives and friends of her parents - people who would never look at her in the same way again.
"It has tarnished the core of me, like if you join a broken glass, there will still be cracks on it," she says.
She has been ostracised by neighbours in the community she has lived in for 40 years.
"As of today, I have no friends. It's just me I guess," she says with a sad chuckle.
Some of her family still don't speak to her. And she constantly wonders whether the men she works with are picturing her naked.
The morning that her daughter Astha found her she was at her lowest ebb. But it was also the moment she decided to fight back. "I don't want to die like this," she decided.
She filed a police report but has heard nothing since. All she could do was change her number and get rid of her sim card - and when Astha started receiving calls her daughter destroyed hers too. She told friends, family and colleagues to ignore the calls and messages and, eventually, they all but stopped.
Bhoomi found support in her sisters, her boss and an online community of others abused by loan apps. But mostly, she found strength in her daughter.
"I must have done something good to be given a daughter like this," she says. "If she hadn't stood by me then I would have been one of the many people who've killed themselves because of loan apps."
We put the allegations in this report to Asan Loan - and also, through contacts, to Liang Tian Tian and Parshuram Takve, who are in hiding. Neither the company nor the couple responded.
When asked for comment, Li Xiang told the BBC that he and his companies comply with all local laws and regulations, have never run predatory loan apps, have ceased collaboration with Jiyaliang, the loan recovery company run by Liang Tian Tian and Parshuram Takve, and do not collect or use customers' contact information.
He said his loan recovery call centres adhere to strict standards and he denied profiting from the suffering of ordinary Indians.
Majesty Legal Services deny using customers' contacts to recover loans. They told us their agents are instructed to avoid abusive or threatening calls, and any violation of the company's policies results in dismissal.

honestly listening to my boss talk about his tesla drives me insane because this guy and several of my coworkers have literally no brainspace to think about the ethics of any given piece of technology when the new gadget is right there, and I've been told off before for being negative about this shit when it comes up
So my boss is telling us how smart it is that tesla charging stations slow down and won't charge your car as efficiently after 15 minutes to keep people moving in and out of charging stations quickly and I'm biting my tongue trying not to say 'so basically you can't guarantee getting a full battery on one charge without standing around for hours or leaving and coming back because one guy wants to speed up the process and funnel as many people as quickly through as possible? You think having an actively worse experience is really smart because you won't have to wait an extra 5 minutes in line to charge your shitty unsealed Tesla? Instead you have to wait an extra 15 to 30 minutes because maybe someone wants a full charge but got slowed down for 'taking too long' to charge the battery that the company designed?????'
This isn't as bad as 'my son is making a cryptocurrency that automatically withdraws loan repayments from your wallet whether you authorize it or not as a form of unregulated loan sharking and it's great because it's futuristic' BUT IT'S COMING CLOSE

How to Pay Off These 4 Types of Debt
Getting and staying out of debt is tough. Many people try and fail, or they succeed only to become ensnared the vicious cycle over and over again. Eliminating debt takes lots of grit and determination, and strategically attacking your debt will save you time, energy, and money. Before you get started, you should know that each type of debt requires a slightly different strategy. Here's how to tackle different types of debt, and get rid of it once and for all. Credit card debt The best way to attack credit card debt is by using the debt snowball. With this method, you begin by attacking the smallest debt while paying the minimum on everything else. Once one debt is paid, you take all the money you were paying on the first card and apply it to the second biggest balance. Rinse and repeat. You may be tempted to attack them based on interest rate, which is also known as the debt avalanche. And that will work. However, you must keep in mind that debt is more mental than it is logical. You probably didn't use a ton of logic to get into debt. And logic won't inspire you to get out of debt. The debt snowball approach allows you to get quick wins by conquering smaller debts before taking on the larger ones, which require more time and patience. Winning becomes a contagious habit that helps you build momentum. You also may want to contact your credit card companies and request that they lower your interest rate. Some will and some won't, but it doesn't hurt to ask. (See also: 2-Minute Guide: How to Use Balance Transfers to Pay Off Credit Card Debt) Car and personal loans Auto and personal loans are a little different from credit card debt. However, they follow the same principle for repayment. First, make sure you understand the repayment terms and then contact the lender and ask them to reduce your interest rate. In addition to using the debt snowball, a great repayment strategy for this type of debt is to call the lending agency and set up bi-weekly payments instead of paying monthly. The minimum payment doesn't change, you just make 26 payments a year versus 12. This lowers the total amount of interest you will pay over the life of the loan. When you pay more than the minimum payment, you'll slash months — even years — off the total repayment time. Student loans Despite how it may feel, paying off student loans is possible. You just need some discipline, patience, and a plan. For most folks, student loan debt is one of the most significant debts owed — second only to a mortgage. The first thing you want to do is determine the total amount owed. You can do this by visiting the National Student Loan Data System or contacting your lender. From there, visit the Federal Student Loan Website to see if your loans can be consolidated, if your interest rate can be lowered, and if you qualify for any loan forgiveness programs. The Department of Education offers eight different repayment plans that may be able to assist you if you're considered low income or have special circumstances. They also provide repayment calculators and a host of other information and resources that can assist you in repaying your loans quicker. Once you know the total amount owed, and have found a repayment plan that works for you, it's time to get busy. You want to throw ever extra dollar you have at this debt and make multiple payments a month, if possible. Mortgage The term "mortgage," translated from old French, literally means "death pledge." How fitting. There are several schools of thought on whether you should pay off your home early. For some people paying it off early makes sense, for others it doesn't. If you do want to knock the mortgage off your debt list, there are a few things you can do to expedite repayment. Make bi-weekly payments By simply splitting your monthly mortgage payment into equal parts where it's paid every two weeks, you can shave years of payments off a 30-year mortgage. If you pay more than the… http://dlvr.it/T3qJwX As seen on Wisebread.comsincerely yours Persofina: Personal Finance Hacks

Demand on currency decreases its value
So I've made this observation before: When people need money, demand increases on currency, unlike any other good, it's actual value goes down. I'd like to take a minute to analyze *why* this might be.
The "demand" comes from the necessity of business entities and individuals needing to pay off their debts and other bills. Which removes currency flow from a system, which is where the inflation comes from.
People are trying to get out from under their debt, which means that they start charging more and more for their services. And I don't just mean a college student with no job history who can't afford the loans.
Businesses *also* behave this way.
This is part of the budgeting process. As with all budgets you need to start with your debts.
These originate with the absolute basics; Food, Water, Dwelling.
And they go up in tiers of importance; Hygiene, Transportation, Other costs of business (or just living, like electricity, and other utilities)
And finally; Debts Owed.
As more money goes towards bills, like debts, companies have to increase their own prices as much as their customers are willing to pay. Because their customers are going to start forgoing niceties.
People will survive on 30¢ ramen packets if they have to. Or a bag of tortillas and BBQ sauce if you catch a good sale.
And because of that; more companies start failing to reach their goals. They can't sell their service or product, because people can't afford them.
And this will even affect people who aren't hurting for money. The societal pressures of an economic downturn will encourage people to stop buying niceties, because their neighbors can't afford them.
Either because they'll lose social capital, or because they're worried that other people, trying to make ends meet, will start trying to do what you gotta do to make that bread.
Which is why there's A LOT of media saying "Everything is fine, economy is fine." Because once people stop buying things, that's when the economy *really* starts to take a turn for the worse.
This is the *real* source of inflation when looking directly at budgeting, and ignore the other factors that could cause inflation in other facets. (Which, some may or may not be affecting us now.)
And why there is an *real* discussion to be had about both not forgiving debts, AND debt forgiveness. (Because both will effect the economy to the negative, the question is; which one would hurt more?)
The reason things inflate in price, arguably, has nothing to do with supply and demand. Our economy barely works on that idea anymore because of the efficiency we have created at collecting resources. Which is good, because it means that it's likely nobody will starve.
What it means is that our worries about inflation have to do with where the currency actually flows. If debts cannot be paid, we have an economic downturn. If they can be paid, we have economic prosperity.
But it also means that; we can actually gauge exactly how the economy will react based on the cumulative outstanding debts of a country (not the federal debt ceiling mind you, that's just a gauge of circulating currency).
In no uncertain terms either; because currency can only come from two sources; the government (who creates currency), or a loan from a bank (which is individualized debt)
See... The idea is, that everybody works for each other, and they pay off each other's debts.
The real question that should be asked; that nobody seems willing to ask; if almost all currency comes from debt in the first place--how can there be any profit at all? Without, of course, creating debt somewhere else in the system?
An individual will say "Well that's not my concern if somebody goes into debt buying my product" The assumption being that a person *should* be able to buy things without needing to acrue debt is a sound decision for all individuals.
But in the system as a whole; if there is profit in the system, then that profit has to come from somewhere, because money in the U.S. (not counting counterfeiting) can only be created by the Federal reserve under the guidance of the federal government.
And a debt cannot be paid without having a profit source.
Meanwhile, debt exists, as does interest on that debt. Which means that, in its current state; the entire economic system is geared towards the impossibility of profit. And the paying of debts, that if it were on a smaller scale, wouldn't be possible to pay.
Even with inflation.

I wake up terribly Ill at the crack of dawn, but I can’t call out of work since I ran out of PTO for this year after taking myself to the doctor the month before. I walk out the door and grab the mail, sorting through 10+ credit card offers and another reminder for student loan dues. I get into my car that I can’t afford and pay hundreds of dollars a month for since I had to settle for an exorbitant and predatory loan in order to get it in the first place. I drive myself to work as highways dominate the city making it impossible to get anywhere on public transit in a timely matter and sit in traffic for 30 mins to get to a job 2 miles down the road. The radio plays 10 minutes of ads between every song and bright billboards distract me with anti-abortion rhetoric. At a stop light, an elderly man walks the strip with a sign begging for help paying his medical bills. Parking my car, I get out and take the long elevator up to my office suite, where my boss greets me asking why I’m 5 minutes late to my shift and sits me down for a meeting about “friendly work place etiquette” while a picture of him shaking hands with Jeff Bezos stares at me from his office wall. I sit down at my desk and work nonstop for 9 hours without a break since we are understaffed and I can’t afford to leave my desk without falling dangerously behind. A male coworker sitting next to me tries to ask me if I’m still single but I haven’t eaten all day and am zoning out staring at my monitor. Bloomberg plays on the office TV, projecting record profit at several large companies despite inflation rising to impossible levels. I am debating getting a second job, I don’t get paid enough here to make ends meet now that the government has forgone all promises of student loan forgiveness. My boss passes me and tells me to smile.

Incredible Benefits Of Installing Residential Solar Systems!
Nowadays, solar energy for residences is a hot topic. In recent years, there has been an exponential increase in the amount of solar power connected to the electric grid; around 4 million houses in the USA currently generate their own electricity using solar power.
In addition to helping solar homeowners save money and increase the value of their properties, one of the best solar panel companies in California provides this renewable energy source that can lower your electricity bills and improve grid resilience, as well as reliability.
Tumblr media
Energy Saver would like to take a minute to highlight five advantages of residential solar in light of the increased interest and abundance of available information:
Solar panels are highly affordable
As compared to other energy source, residential solar is more affordable than ever, especially with the extension of the federal residential solar tax credit. On their income taxes, taxpayers are eligible for a 30% tax credit toward the cost of solar systems. But make sure to install it before the tax credit drops to 26% on January 1, 2033.
Apart from tax benefits, there are plenty of different financing options to purchase solar systems easily with less money upfront. A solar loan usually has a monthly payment that is lower than the average energy bill.
You can save money by going solar
You can save money on your monthly electricity bills by using solar systems. With electricity bills trending upward, the solar system is likely to remain an amazing money-saving option for years to come. There are various factors on which your savings amount depends, including;
The amount of electricity you consume
The size of your solar energy system
Power is able to generate
If you don’t have sufficient cash to purchase a solar system in one payment, then you can go for lease and solar loan options.
When the grid fails, you can leave the lights on.
If there is a fluctuation in power, you can generate your own solar power with solar systems. Solar power gives you the freedom to keep the lights on if there is a disturbance in power.
Solar will often increase the resale value of your home
Solar panel systems play an incredible role in increasing your home’s value. Just like a renovated kitchen or an upgraded basement, solar photovoltaic panels are viewed as advancements, as well as home buyers across the country, have been willing to pay a premium amount for a home with a solar panel system.
Final Words:
Do you rent your house or live in a high-rise condo building? No worries. We at Solar Earth are here to help you. We are one of the best and most reputed residential solar financing companies that allow people to benefit from a single, shared solar array.

Outraged Over Gaza, Protesters Show Left-Wing Divisions as Convention Opens (NYT) As Democrats gathered in Chicago on Monday, eager to project an image of a liberal movement fully united behind Vice President Kamala Harris, thousands of people marched a few blocks away, presenting a thorny counterpoint. For hours, protesters furious over the Biden administration’s support for Israel and its failure to end the war in Gaza held signs, chanted and pushed for Ms. Harris to break with the president on those issues. The loudest challenge to the opening day of the Democratic National Convention was coming not from Republicans, but from the progressive left.
Businesses Are Already Girding for Next Phase of the U.S.-China Trade War (NYT) If not for the trade war between the world’s two largest economies, Easy Signs would now be hiring dozens of workers at its factory in Allentown, Pa. It would be readying plans to build a second plant generating another 100 jobs. Based in Australia, Easy Signs manufactures banners and marketing installations for corporate events, using huge printers to press logos and slogans onto rolls of cloth. Its American business has been growing 70 percent a year. Still, the company is putting off an expansion. Its cloth signs are displayed on aluminum stands made in China. Those products are now subject to a series of tariffs reaching as high as 365 percent under a policy set in motion by former President Donald J. Trump and continued by the Biden administration in the name of protecting American industry from Chinese government subsidies. The costs of imported components could increase further should Mr. Trump win November’s presidential election and follow through on his threat to add a tariff of 60 percent or more on all Chinese goods, and 10 percent to all imports. “That’s definitely a scary concept,” said Andy Fryer, co-founder of Easy Signs. “The whole feasibility goes out the window.”
Not just for kids anymore: Adults turn to lemonade stands as side hustles (Washington Post) There was no ice at Giant. There was no ice at CVS. And Malia Blake was getting anxious. Her new side hustle, intended to help her climb out of debt, was inspired by a woman she saw on TikTok do this to pay for pharmacy school. It depended on four ingredients: ice, water, sweetener and lemons. Lemonade stands used to be only for kids who wanted to make pocket change during their summer breaks. Now people in their 20s and 30s around the country have started squeezing lemons to pay off bills. They set up stands at farmers markets, local festivals and concerts. Proprietors say it’s very profitable, but the business is extremely weather dependent and has gotten highly competitive. Blake, 26, said she has around $40,000 in debt from student loans, credit cards and a car. “The cost of living is kind of high and I have a lot of expenses,” said Blake, who lives in D.C. and works in corporate communications. “I’m constantly looking for ways outside of my 9-to-5 [job] to put towards my debt and my future. Lemons are cheap. I thought I could do this, too.” Blake says she makes $1,000 to $1,500 in sales per event. She sells her lemonade for $8 a cup and offers five flavors: watermelon, mango, strawberry, hibiscus and plain. It takes her about one minute to make a cup.
Phone taps, sabotage and an assassination plot: Is Germany in Cold War 2.0? (BBC) Holes mysteriously found cut in army base fences. An alleged plot to assassinate Germany’s top weapons manufacturer. Phone taps on a high-level Luftwaffe call. These aren’t storylines lifted from a 1960s spy novel but real-life events in Germany, this year. Not all of these events can definitively be blamed on Moscow, but Germany is on heightened alert for possible acts of Russian sabotage, because of Berlin’s continued military support for Kyiv. As a hot war rages between Russia and Ukraine, there are fears that Europe has slipped into a new Cold War. But what does a rekindled Cold War look like for Europe’s biggest economy and a country that was once itself cut in half by the Iron Curtain? The biggest bombshell dropped just last month when CNN reported that US officials had told Berlin of an alleged Russian plot to kill the chief executive of Germany’s biggest arms company Rheinmetall. The 61-year-old is, to use a crude term, a real “somebody”, particularly in a world where Nato countries are spending billions to re-supply Ukraine and boost their own security. Had a plot to kill him been successful, it would have sent shockwaves through the West.
Ukraine Strikes Bridges in Russia, Aiming to Entrap Troops (NYT) Russian troops defending a pocket of territory wedged between a river and the border with Ukraine were at risk of becoming encircled, military analysts said Monday, after Ukraine bombed bridges that are the only routes for resupply or retreat. In their counterattack into Russia, which has been underway now for nearly two weeks, Ukrainian troops quickly broke through thinly manned border defenses, fanned out on highways and captured towns and villages, initially pushing deeper into Russian territory. The bombing of bridges, in contrast, takes aim at land between the Seym River, the border and an area inside Russia already controlled by Ukraine, with the potential to entrap the Russian forces positioned there. Three bridges span this stretch of river, all now destroyed or damaged, according to statements released by the Ukrainian Air Force and to social media posts by Russian officials and military commentators. The potential encirclement of its forces in the area adds another challenge to a Russian Army caught off guard by Ukraine’s startling incursion over the border on Aug. 6.
Azerbaijan raises alarm over Caspian Sea's 'catastrophic' shrinking (Reuters) Things are drying up between Asia and Europe. Really big things. According to the president of Azerbaijan, the Caspian Sea is drying up at a worrying pace. In a meeting held on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the sea’s “catastrophic” shrinkage, citing a decades-long trend of its waters slowly receding and the fact that rocks that were hidden under water just two years ago are now sticking out “a meter above the surface.” The Caspian Sea isn’t really a sea. It’s actually the world’s largest lake, though it is almost as salty as a sea. It’s steadily shrunk since the mid-1990s thanks to a combination of climate change-accelerated evaporation and the diversion of the Volga (Europe’s longest river) for irrigation projects.
Pakistan suffers internet slowdown as government denies setting up a national firewall (AP) People in Pakistan reported much slower internet over the past several days with some experts on Monday estimating its speed falling to less than half its usual capacity at times. The problem has affected millions of users, disrupting businesses and drawing nationwide complaints, while authorities have denied allegations that the installation of a national firewall was behind the slowdown. Since February, users have been either unable to use social media or allowed limited access following a governmental crackdown before the Feb. 8 parliamentary election. However, internet speed has now noticeably slowed down. Users are unable to quickly send emails or use the messaging service WhatsApp, with businesspeople and doctors saying it has negatively affected their daily work, particularly receiving statements and medical reports.
Contingency plans for the Taiwan Strait (Defense News/WP) It has become conventional wisdom among the halls of the United States government that China will launch a full-scale invasion of Taiwan within the next few years. And when that happens, the US military has a relatively straightforward response in mind: Unleash hell. Speaking to The Washington Post on the sidelines of the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ annual Shangri-La Dialogue in June, US Indo-Pacific Command chief Navy Admiral Samuel Paparo colorfully described the US military’s contingency plan for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan as flooding the narrow Taiwan Strait between the two countries with swarms of thousands upon thousands of drones, by land, sea, and air, to delay a Chinese attack enough for the US and its allies to muster additional military assets in the region. “I want to turn the Taiwan Strait into an unmanned hellscape using a number of classified capabilities,” Paparo said, “so that I can make their lives utterly miserable for a month, which buys me the time for the rest of everything.”
UN says a record number of aid workers were killed in 2023 and this year may be even higher (AP) A record number of aid workers were killed in conflicts around the world last year—more than half after the Israel-Hamas war started on Oct. 7—and this year may become even deadlier, the United Nations said Monday. The 280 aid workers from 33 countries killed in 2023 was more than double the previous year’s figure of 118, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs known as OCHA said in a report on World Humanitarian Day. OCHA said this year “may be on track for an even deadlier outcome,” with 172 aid workers killed as of Aug. 7, according to a provisional account from the Aid Worker Security Database. More than 280 aid workers have been killed in the war in Gaza, now in its 11th month, mainly in airstrikes. The majority of them are Palestinians who worked for the U.N. agency helping Palestinian refugees known as UNRWA, according to OCHA. It said that “extreme levels of violence in Sudan and South Sudan “ also have contributed to the death toll both this year and last.
In Uganda’s chaotic capital, boda-boda motorcycle taxis are a source of life and death (AP) The young men perched on motorcycles looked dazed in the morning heat. But at the sight of a potential passenger, they furiously kick-started their machines and tried to outrace each other for the business. For tens of thousands of men in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, this is how to make a living. For others, the speeding motorcycles embody the city’s chaos as an essential but menacing means of transport. The motorcycle taxis, known locally as boda-bodas, are ubiquitous in East African capitals like Nairobi and Kigali. But nowhere in the region have boda-boda numbers been surging more dramatically than in Kampala, a city of 3 million people, no mass transit system and rampant unemployment. An estimated 350,000 boda-bodas operate in Kampala, driven by men who come from all parts of Uganda and say there are no other jobs for them. The boda-boda men, who operate mostly unregulated, have resisted recent attempts to dislodge them from the narrow streets of Kampala’s central business district, frustrating city authorities and underscoring the government’s fears over the consequences of angering a horde of jobless men.
Nearly half of world’s migrants are Christian, Pew Research shows (Religion News Service) The world’s 280 million immigrants have greater shares of Christians, Muslims and Jews than the general population, according to a new Pew Research Center study released Monday (Aug. 19). “You see migrants coming to places like the U.S., Canada, different places through Western Europe, and being more religious—and sometimes more Christian in particular—than the native-born people in those countries,” said Achsah Callahan, the study’s lead researcher. While Christians make up about 30% of the world’s population, the world’s migrants are 47% Christian, according to the latest data collected in 2020. The study found that Muslims make up 29% of the migrant population but 25% of the world’s population. Jews, only 0.2% of the world’s population but 1% of migrants, are by far the most likely religious group to have migrated, with 20% of Jews worldwide living outside their country of birth compared to just 6% of Christians and 4% of Muslims.
