Workshop (17/10/2022)
This week I did the 3D scanning and printing workshop. I made a model of a frog out of clay and scanned it onto the computer using the hand held scanner. I inspires my frog from an old movie I used to watch when I was younger called "Maria Mirabela". This relates to the themes because I am exploring how childhood is temporary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really enjoyed this workshop and I learned how to use 3D software and equipment. The model will finish printing next week as it takes 17 hours to print .

3D scanning has become much more affordable and accessible compared to just a few years ago when you would have been looking at paying $30k or more for scanners. These days, you could be packing an all-singing and dancing scanner for under $800.
“So what?” you say, “I’ve never needed a 3D scanner before; why would I need one now?”
Because they are fantastic devices with a wealth of uses that will save you time and money at home or work.
So, let’s look at reasons to get a 3D scanner.
Tumblr media
Saving Time Whether you’re reverse engineering, prototyping, designing, animating, or doing anything that requires making 3D models, you know it’s a time-consuming process involving lots of manual measurements with tape measures, calipers, and constant checks to verify that your 3D model is accurate.
Imagine the time you could save if you didn't have to manually measure complex objects. With a 3D scanner, this is a reality. In a matter of minutes, you can capture an object and create a 3D model, a process that would have taken hours or even days with traditional methods.
Saving Money That’s right. It's going to save you money, possibly in multiple ways. The obvious way is that time is money; thus, saving you time also saves you money. It might even help you make more money by streamlining your work processes enough to increase your capacity.
Another way it can help save money is that with consistently accurate 3D data, you won’t waste materials in trial-and-error testing to discover if something fits.
Tumblr media
3D Printing With access to a 3D printer, you can make just about anything, but only if you have a 3D model. Sure, you could fire up Blender and create it from scratch, but that isn't easy, and even if you know what you’re doing, it’s still time-consuming.
With a 3D scanner, the world is your oyster for models. Have a flower pot with a neat design, but it’s too small, then scan it, scale it up in software, and print a new one. Want a copy of a cool statue in town? Give it a scan, and make your own.

The process of A moment in time
When we began our project, I planned to start with the 3D scanner part. We arrived at Sydney Park, and there were lots of iconic things there allowed me to do the scanning. There is a small park for children, and I can see some equipment stand there for children to play. As I had less scan experience when I started using the app to do the scanning, I found that there was a big difference between scanning inside the room and outside, so I got two qualities of the model when I did the first scanning. We can see the left one is smoother and has a high quality, and the right one loses some details, is more blurred and looks very rougher. Actually, the left one took me around 5-6 mins, and the right one only took me about 1 mins, so I got some experience with the 3d Scanner. I need to hold the phone and walk very slowly, and walk around it to scan everywhere of the thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I did different types of scanning, in the App has many types and can make the model look more real. Shown on the left, I am supposed to scan three big pillars of Sydney Park, as the scanning needs to be done very close and walking around/them, makes me feel to do the original Scan type, so I decided to use the photo type scan to show what we want to have, but as the pillars are too high and big, I cannot make it successful. The model on the right shows another face of the models, the colours disappear and it looks like a blender-made model. It also has more details shown than the original one.

Tractor Dreaming!
Every year Aumann Auctions in Nokomis, Illinois has their Pre-30 Auction. Along with the auction they have a tractor school, and open house. As usual, we attended the open house, and put on our, “If you could have any tractor?” dreaming hat. Then we viewed the early model tractors. These beauties tell the story of agricultural history over the years! The little Motomeccacina Balilla tractor was…

Digital avatar + 3D scanning, generating your own metaverse space.
In the metaverse, your digital avatar is like a 3D model, and the process of making it is called 3D reconstruction. It's basically like creating a virtual version of yourself in the metaverse. So, how do you bring your real self into the digital world? 3D body scanning technology is the key to making this "digital creation" movement possible.
In just a few easy steps, you can create your own unique digital avatar with the help of the Revopoint 3D scanner, speeding up your journey into the metaverse!

Learn more about Kova Engineering's services by visiting our website at https://kova.ca/3D-Laser-Scanning
Full list of Benefits of a 3D laser scanning company:
Accuracy: Laser scanning technology can capture precise measurements of objects, structures, and environments with high accuracy. It allows for detailed representation and documentation of physical spaces, including complex geometries and intricate details.
Time-saving: Compared to traditional methods of manual measurement or surveying, 3D laser scanning can significantly reduce the time required to capture data. The scanner can quickly capture millions of points in a matter of minutes or hours, depending on the size and complexity of the area being scanned.
Comprehensive data capture: Laser scanning provides a comprehensive and detailed representation of the scanned area. It captures both geometric and color information, creating a 3D point cloud or mesh that can be used for various applications such as architectural modeling, engineering analysis, and virtual reality simulations.
Non-contact and non-destructive: Laser scanning is a non-contact technology, meaning it does not require physical contact with the object or environment being scanned. This non-destructive aspect is particularly important when scanning delicate or valuable objects, historical artifacts, or sensitive environments.
Documentation and preservation: 3D laser scanning is widely used for documentation and preservation purposes. It enables the creation of accurate digital replicas of objects or structures, which can be archived and studied without the risk of damage or deterioration over time. It is especially useful for cultural heritage preservation and archaeological research.
Visualization and analysis: The captured 3D data can be used for visualization and analysis purposes. It allows for virtual walk through, fly throughs, or interactive presentations of the scanned environment. Additionally, the data can be analyzed for measurements, clash detection, deformation analysis, or simulations, aiding in design, construction, and maintenance processes.
Remote access and collaboration: The digital nature of 3D laser scanning data enables remote access and collaboration. The data can be shared easily among project stakeholders, allowing for virtual meetings, design reviews, and collaborative decision-making regardless of geographical locations.
Cost-effectiveness: Although laser scanning equipment can be expensive, the overall cost-effectiveness of 3D laser scanning is often realized when considering the time saved during data capture and processing, reduced rework due to accurate measurements, and improved project efficiency. It can lead to cost savings in various industries, including architecture, engineering, construction, and manufacturing.
Overall, 3D laser scanning provides a powerful and versatile tool for capturing accurate spatial data, enabling better visualization, analysis, and decision-making across a wide range of industries and applications.

3D scanners - Copying Everything
Let me give you a quick rundown on 3D scanners. They're these awesome devices that can capture real-life objects and turn them into 3D models.
As a 3D modeler, I've tried scanning all sorts of things from everyday life. The size range is pretty wide, but it's been a bit of a headache because most 3D scanners out there have limitations on what they can scan. That's why I recently found this Miraco 3D scanner. It can scan objects of any size, covering all my needs whether it's something big, medium, or small. And the best part is, it's wireless and all-in-one, so I don't need any extra equipment to get scanning. It's super convenient, especially for someone like me who's always on the move.
