Marine Air’s Dark Day at Midway
Marine Aircraft Group 22’s experience at the Battle of Midway serves as a hard lesson in trying to do too much with too little.
The 4th of June 1942 was a very bad day for Marine Corps aviation. At the Battle of Midway, Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 22 suffered terrible losses and contributed little to the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s spectacular victory that day. The group’s fighting squadron, VMF-221, lost far more aircraft than its pilots shot down. Its dive-bomber squadron, VMSB-241, suffered staggering losses without hitting a single Japanese ship.
Midway historians have thoroughly chronicled the actions of these two squadrons and touched on some reasons for their performance. The most cited causes are the obsolescence of Marine aircraft and the inexperience of Marine aviators.1 A closer examination of archival material reveals additional factors that impaired the group’s performance at Midway and new insights into why MAG-22 sent such green pilots into battle.
The heart of MAG-22’s troubles lay in its two competing missions: While forward deployed to defend an advanced base, the group also served as a de facto training command for new aviators. This alone would have undermined its combat readiness. But additional factors worked against MAG-22. In the weeks before the battle, the flight hours the group devoted to training were limited by its responsibilities to defend Midway Atoll and by logistical shortfalls. During the battle, Naval Air Station Midway and MAG-22 were unable to coordinate aircraft from three services based at the atoll. Finally, imprecise direction from Pacific Fleet commander Admiral Chester W. Nimitz led to misunderstandings of how MAG-22 would employ its fighting squadron.
Present-day naval commanders are acutely familiar with the challenge of balancing combat readiness and forward presence. As naval leaders look for ways to maintain Navy and Marine Corps forces in the western Pacific and prepare for possible conflict there, the experience of MAG-22 at Midway provides a sobering reminder of the risks of attempting to do too much with too little.

MAG-22’s Very Bad Day
At 0555 on 4 June 1942, Midway’s radar detected a large formation of aircraft 93 miles northwest of the atoll. MAG-22’s siren wailed. In accordance with orders issued the previous evening by Lieutenant Colonel Ira L. Kimes, the commander of MAG-22, VMF-221 launched its aircraft immediately. A detachment of six Navy TBF Avengers took off next, followed by four Army Air Forces B-26 Marauders armed with torpedoes. The TBFs and B-26s proceeded independently to attack the Japanese carriers. The 16 SBD-2 Dauntlesses and 12 SB2U-3 Vindicators of VMSB-241 took off last and rendezvoused about 20 miles east of Midway’s Eastern Island.2
VMF-221’s commanding officer, Major Floyd B. Parks, had organized his 21 F2A-3 Buffalos and seven F4F-3 Wildcats into four divisions of Buffalos and one of Wildcats. All but one F2A-3 and one F4F-3 were mission ready and got airborne, though the divisions became slightly disorganized during the hasty scramble. The Japanese strike consisted of 108 aircraft—36 Aichi D3A “Val” dive bombers, 36 Nakajima B5N2 “Kate” carrier attack aircraft, and 36 Mitsubishi A6M2 “Zeke,” or Zero, fighters. In accordance with Kimes’ plan, MAG-22’s fighter direction center funneled all five of VMF-221’s divisions to intercept the incoming strike. The Marines had the altitude advantage, and the separate divisions launched a series of overhead gunnery passes against the Japanese bomber formations. As the slower Marine aircraft recovered for additional passes, the nimbler Zeros overtook them and sent one after another tumbling downward.3
There is little doubt VMF-221 got the worst of the fight. The Japanese shot down 15 Marine fighters and severely damaged another nine, leaving just one F2A-3 and one F4F-3 ready to fly. Though Kimes afterward estimated Japanese losses at 43 aircraft, his surviving pilots definitively claimed just nine victories. Kimes’ estimate included “probable victories by missing fighter pilots” as well as claims by rear-seat gunners of VMSB-241.4 The actual total was far lower. VMF-221 probably shot down just three aircraft outright. Another 16 Japanese aircraft survived the raid but either ditched or were so irreparably damaged they could not fly again.5
A PBY Catalina flying boat had spotted the Japanese carriers, and MAG-22 passed their location to VMSB-241.6 Major Lofton R. Henderson, the squadron commander, led the SBDs. Major Benjamin W. Norris, the executive officer, led the SB2Us. While Henderson took his unit to 9,000 feet, Norris climbed to 13,000 feet.7 On paper, the SB2U-3s were nearly as fast as the SBD-2s, but the two flights proceeded independently.8
Because the Marine dive bombers were slower than the TBFs and B-26s, had taken off last, and had flown east before heading northwest, VMSB-241 did not attack until a half hour after the TBF and B-26 attacks had ended. The Japanese combat air patrol had shot down five of the six Avengers and two of the four Marauders; none had scored a hit. When Henderson and his SBDs spotted the carrier Hiryū at about 0755, the Japanese combat air patrol still had 13 fighters aloft.9
Henderson conducted a glide-bombing attack. A dive-bombing attack would have facilitated bombing accuracy and complicated fighter gunnery and antiaircraft solutions. But more than half of Henderson’s pilots were too inexperienced to attempt the technique, and the cloud cover would have made dive bombing particularly difficult.10
The combat air patrol’s Zeros attacked Henderson first. On their second pass, they sent him down in flames. The remaining SBDs continued the gliding attack. One by one, the Marines released their bombs—and missed. Some came petrifyingly close for the Hiryū’s crew, and many Marines mistakenly believed they had scored hits.11
Norris and his Vindicators arrived at about 0820, less than ten minutes after the surviving SBD-2s had departed and amid an attack by Army Air Forces B-17 Flying Fortresses. The combat air patrol had doubled to 26 fighters. Norris descended through the clouds toward the carrier Akagi. The Zeros could not find the dive bombers as long as they were in the safety of the cloud bank, but neither could the Marines see the ships below. When they emerged at 2,000 feet, they saw only the battleship Haruna. Norris also attempted a gliding attack. The Haruna maneuvered evasively, neatly avoiding every one of the Marines’ bombs. The SB2Us hugged the surface and flew back to Midway.12 Only 8 of VMSB-241’s 16 SBD-2s and 8 of its 12 SB2U-3s returned.13
VMSB-241 conducted two more strikes during the battle. That evening Norris led five SB2U-3s and six SBD-2s in a vain search for burning carriers. They found nothing, and Norris did not return, lost in the inky, moonless squalls. On 5 June, VMSB-241 attacked the cruisers Mogami and Mikuma. The squadron lost another Vindicator to antiaircraft fire and again scored no hits.14
What Was Done Well
MAG-22 did some things remarkably well in its first action. Due to superb intelligence and early warning, no airworthy planes were caught on the ground. The fighter direction center placed the fighters in an optimum intercept position. The dive bombers located the Japanese carriers. Most impressively, every fighter and dive-bomber pilot attacked without hesitation into the teeth of a formidable defense.
MAG-22’s efforts indirectly contributed to the destruction of the Akagi and two other carriers, the Kaga and Sōryū, later that morning. As historians Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully demonstrated, the cumulative effect of the series of failed attacks by bombers from Midway and U.S. carriers created conditions that delayed Admiral Chūichi Nagumo’s counterattack and placed his carriers at greater vulnerability to the dive bombers from the USS Enterprise (CV-6) and Yorktown (CV-5). Dodging the attacks required the carriers to maneuver violently. Defending against them required the carriers to launch and recover fighters. Perhaps just as important, Nagumo faced a series of menacing dilemmas, complicating his decision-making. When the dive bombers from the Enterprise and Yorktown appeared overhead at 1020, Kates and Vals were still below on the hangar decks, where their fuel and ordnance amplified the destructive power of the American bombs.15
VMF-221 also helped reduce the strength of Nagumo’s counterpunch when it did come. The only carrier that survived the Enterprise and Yorktown dive-bomber attacks was the Hiryū. It was her air group that VMF-221 had attacked. Though the Marine fighters shot down just two Kates outright, another seven Kates were shot down by Marine antiaircraft guns, ditched, or were too damaged to participate in the strikes against the U.S. carriers.16 In other words, the Marines did not bring down many aircraft, but the ones they did bring down were the right ones—aircraft from the Hiryū’s air group.
Nonetheless, 4 June had been an awful day for MAG-22. It had lost many aircraft, shot down only a handful of the enemy, and hit no ships. Forty-two MAG-22 Marines had died; 36 pilots and gunners were missing; and six Marines had been killed in the bombing of Eastern Island.17
‘Not a Combat Airplane’
On 17 April, Major (soon to be Lieutenant Colonel) Ira L. Kimes (below) landed at Midway Atoll to replace Lieutenant Colonel William Wallace as MAG-22 commander. Accompanying Kimes were six second lieutenants, green aviators who replaced six captains, seasoned fliers, who left the atoll with Wallace three days later. Public Domain
Tumblr media
Every surviving Marine fighter pilot from VMF-221 attested to the superiority of the Zero over the Marine fighters. Captain
The F2A-3 is not a combat airplane. It is inferior to the planes we were fighting in every respect.
It is my belief that any commander that orders pilots out for combat in a F2A-3 should consider the pilot as lost before leaving the ground.18
Kimes agreed. In his endorsement to his aviator’s statements, Kimes recommended that the fleet relegate the F2A-3 Buffalo, the F4F-3 Wildcat, and the SB2U-3 Vindicator to training commands.19
The Vindicator was indeed past its usefulness. However, there is evidence that neither fighter was to blame for VMF-221’s poor performance. With improved tactics, Marine and Navy pilots would achieve far better results with the F4F in the Solomons. Captain Marion Carl, the only Marine to shoot down a Zero over Midway, believed the F2A-3 was as maneuverable and fast as the F4F-3, and its only drawbacks were that it could not absorb punishment and was less stable as a gunnery platform than the Wildcat.20
Some British and Dutch Buffalo aces, whose squadrons suffered grievously against Imperial Japanese Navy Zeros, attributed their lopsided outcome to Japanese proficiency and numbers rather than the Buffalo’s inferiority. Finnish Buffalo pilots enjoyed great success flying the planes against the Soviets.21 The Buffalo’s mixed performance in other theaters suggests that other factors contributed to VMF-221’s poor performance.
‘Half-Baked Flyers’
When VMF-221 and VMSB-241 had landed on Eastern Island in December 1941, both squadrons were top heavy with experience. VMF-221’s most junior pilot had been flying for at least a year since flight school.22 But the 57 aviators who flew on 4 June included 35 second lieutenants, none of whom had been with their squadron more than four months, and 17 of whom had arrived on 27 May directly from flight school.23

In the first half of 1942, Marine aviation had two conflicting missions: defending the fleet’s advanced bases and training new aviators. Newly winged aviators reported to the fleet with just 200 hours of flight time, and none in the aircraft they would fly in combat.24 The new aviators needed operational training, but the aircraft they needed to train in were defending advanced bases in the Pacific.
On 8 January 1942, Brigadier General Ross E. Rowell, the commander of 2d Marine Air Wing, described the dilemma in a letter to Vice Admiral William F. Halsey Jr., the commander of Aircraft, Battle Force, Pacific Fleet: “I have now accumulated 35 second lieutenants in various stages of advanced training. . . . If ComAirBatFor approves and you want some half-baked flyers, send me a dispatch to that effect.” Halsey approved; he directed Rowell to order the green fliers to squadrons like VMF-221 and VMSB-241.25 This decision set in motion a sequence of personnel transfers that diluted the combat readiness of forward-deployed squadrons. As inexperienced aviators joined squadrons at advanced bases, experienced aviators left to form new squadrons in Hawaii and California.
Marine aviation was still following its prewar training pipeline. Once students were designated naval aviators, they reported to squadrons in the Fleet Marine Force for about a year of operational flight training in combat aircraft.26
Not only did MAG-22 not have a year to train its new aviators, but the group’s commitment to the defense of Midway also required it to devote most of its operational flights to patrols and radar calibration vice gunnery and tactics. Less than 30 percent of VMF-221’s missions from December 1941 to May 1942 were dedicated to improving the lethality of its fighter pilots.27
Logistics shortfalls further impinged on the group’s training. A shortage of .50-caliber machine-gun ammunition often limited gunnery practice to dummy runs.28 In the final week before combat, PBY Catalinas and B-17 Flying Fortresses drew thirstily from Midway’s fuel stocks, which were already limited due to an incredible blunder. On 22 May, demolition charges placed at an underground fuel storage facility detonated when one of the defense battalion batteries fired its 11-inch guns. The station lost 375,000 gallons of precious aviation fuel and its pipeline to Eastern Island.29 The resulting shortage prevented the group from providing the 17 Marines fresh out of flight school with anything more than familiarization flights. VMSB-241 could not even check out its new pilots in their SBDs.30
Without question, MAG-22 fought the Battle of Midway with inferior aircraft and many “half-baked” pilots. Though the odds were stacked against the group’s aviators, command decisions may have stacked the odds higher than they needed to be.
‘No Organized Plan Whatsoever’
In a 1966 interview, MAG-22’s former executive officer stated there had been “no organized plan whatsoever” to coordinate Midway’s Army Air Forces, Navy, and Marine aircraft.31 Though not strictly true, his characterization betrays how Naval Air Station Midway and MAG-22 struggled to coordinate air operations.
In anticipation of the coming fight, Nimitz had abundantly reinforced Midway. In addition to MAG-22, Midway’s air force included 31 PBYs, 17 B-17s, the 4 B-26s, and the 6 TBFs. Nimitz assigned tactical control of all these to the naval air station commander, Navy Captain Cyril T. Simard, and sent an experienced aviator and a naval base air defense detachment to coordinate air operations.32
While the naval air station directed scouting operations superbly, integrating the bombers in a coordinated strike proved beyond its reach. Each aircraft type attacked without regard to the next, permitting the Japanese the opportunity to fend off each in turn. As Kimes observed in perfect hindsight, “It would have been better had they arrived simultaneously.”33
Coordination was exacerbated by the physical separation of the naval air station and MAG-22 command posts. Simard and his air operations officer were on Sand Island; Kimes and his command post were on Eastern Island. According to Kimes’ executive officer, the “Marines ran their own show” but did not command the other services’ bombers on Eastern Island, including the six Navy TBFs.34
Kimes’ air group struggled to coordinate its own aircraft. VMSB-241 does not seem to have attempted to integrate its SBD and SB2U attacks. Most puzzlingly, MAG-22 allocated no fighter protection to VMSB-241 for its strike against the Japanese carriers.
‘Go All Out for the Carriers’
Tumblr media
Kimes employed his fighting squadron in what Marine Corps doctrine termed “general support.” As then–Major William J. Wallace lectured Marine officers at Quantico in 1941, general support was an offensive mission that allowed fighters the freedom to be “on the prowl.” In contrast, missions that tied fighters to protection missions, such as escorting bombers, were termed “special support.” As a fighter pilot, Wallace clearly favored the freedom to go find trouble and emphasized, “The rule, then, for the employment of fighter units should be-—general support wherever and whenever possible.”35
In January 1942, now–Lieutenant Colonel Wallace took command of Marine aviation on Midway, which he retained until relieved by Kimes in April. It was Wallace who had developed the fighter direction system MAG-22 employed for defense of the atoll. As Wallace’s views on fighter employment reflected Marine Corps doctrine, and Wallace commanded MAG-22 until two months before the battle, this bias likely influenced Kimes’ decision to place all of VMF-221 in general support on 4 June.
MAG-22’s fighter employment stands in stark contrast to how Japanese and U.S. carrier task forces operated on 4 June. Carriers were far more vulnerable to air attack than an island base. Nonetheless, every Japanese and American task force commander allocated fighter escorts to increase their bombers’ chances of getting through the enemy’s fighters.
Hitting the Japanese fleet was exactly what Nimitz had in mind when he reinforced Midway with so many aircraft. On 20 May, Nimitz provided the Chief of Naval Operations and Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Fleet, Admiral Ernest J. King, with some views on the role of land-based aircraft he had drawn from the recent Battle of the Coral Sea:
The shore commander should assign attack missions designed to render the greatest possible assistance to the Fleet Task Force when it is engaged and should particularly be ready to provide fighter protection when it is practicable.36
Nimitz incorporated these views in his planning guidance for Midway. In a 23 May memorandum to his chief of staff, Captain Milo F. Draemel, Nimitz explicitly directed that “Midway planes must thus make the CV’s [aircraft carriers] their objective, rather than attempting any local defense of the atoll.”37 In an undated memorandum likely written about the same time, Nimitz reiterated his intent to Captain Arthur C. Davis, his air officer:
Balsa’s [Midway’s] air force must be employed to inflict prompt and early damage to Jap carrier flight decks if recurring attacks are to be stopped. Our objectives will be first—their flight decks rather than attempting to fight off the initial attacks on Balsa. . . . If this is correct, Balsa air force . . . should go all out for the carriers . . . leaving to Balsa’s guns the first defense of the field.38
But in his operations order for Midway, Nimitz was less clear in the tasks he assigned to Simard at Midway:
(1) Hold MIDWAY.
(2) Aircraft obtain and report early information of enemy advance by searches to maximum practicable radius from MIDWAY covering daily the greatest arc possible with the number of planes available between true bearings from MIDWAY clockwise two hundred degrees dash twenty degrees. Inflict maximum damage on enemy, particularly carriers, battleships, and transports.
(3) Take every precaution against being destroyed on the ground or water. Long range aircraft retire to OAHU when necessary to avoid such destruction. Patrol planes fuel from AVD [seaplane tender] at French Frigate Shoals if necessary.
(4) Patrol craft patrol approaches; exploit favorable opportunities to attack carriers, battleships, transports, and auxiliaries. Observe KURE and PEARL and HERMES REEF. Give prompt warning of approaching enemy forces.
(5) Keep Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet and Commander Hawaiian Sea Frontier fully informed of air searches and other air operations; also the weather encountered by search planes.39
The very explicit language Nimitz used in his planning guidance—that Midway’s aircraft “should go all out for the carriers”—is not reflected in his order. Absent such direction, Simard left it to Kimes to command the Marine squadrons as he saw fit. In accordance with Marine Corps doctrine, Kimes placed his fighting squadron in general support over Midway—and sent his dive bombers against the Japanese fleet without fighter escorts. Had he allocated one or two divisions from VMF-221 to escort VMSB-241, more Marine dive bombers may have survived to drop bombs on the Hiryū, and their accuracy may have improved had they attacked with less interference from the Japanese combat air patrol.
Trying to Do More with Less
Tumblr media
MAG-22 had not gone all out for the carriers but had massed its fighters in defense of Midway. Naval Air Station Midway had struck the Japanese carriers with every bomber available but had been unable to coordinate their attacks to increase their chances for success and survival. Most tragically, many of the Marines lost in the battle were just not ready to fight the Imperial Japanese Navy, despite their willingness and eagerness to try.
MAG-22’s very bad day is a cautionary tale. Trying to do more with less—in MAG-22’s case, trying to defend Midway while training novice aviators—carries risks that may be hidden until they are exposed through combat. In his report of the battle, Kimes included a page and a half of candid comments and recommendations.40 After Midway, Marine aviators applied the lessons MAG-22 had learned at enormous cost and achieved spectacular results against the same foe in the Solomons, often under the leadership of aviators who had survived Midway.
Those same lessons are noteworthy today. Naval experts have cautioned the naval services against maintaining too much forward presence with too little fleet.41 An enduring lesson of MAG-22 may be that very bad days result from very bad choices, and that choosing to do more with less is often a very bad choice.

The Greatest Memories (Rhett Abbott x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Rhett leave a special little something for those who gave everything
Warnings: Mentions of passing, war, military service, cancer, parenthood etc.
Tagging: @floydsmuse @bradleybeachbabe
It was the sunniest of May days so far, not a cloud in the sky and the grasses rippling in the breeze. The birds were singing high in the trees above the Teton Mountain Cemetery while wildflowers were blooming in the woodlines near the plot.
You and Rhett walked the loping footpaths that led to a familiar plot that you had visited time and again, every year in May and again in June to leave flowers. The lilac bushes had already bloomed near the headstones, casting its cool shade over the graves and releasing its heady scent throughout.
"Amy c'mere," Rhett called to the four year old running around the truck.
Amy darted right beside you and him as you carried the flower boxes to the two headstones that lay side by side with each other. Both were marked with the names of Royal's parents, his mother and father who had passed not too long before Amy had been born. The white marble appeared brand new, much as it had the day the two had been placed side by side, just as they had been in life.
River John Abbott
Born January 24th, 1928
Died June 5th, 2016
1st Marine Division, Korean War and Vietnam
Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather
Rhett brushed a few loose strands of freshly mown grass off the second, revealing the name that he missed just as much as Grandpa River along with the Lorraine Cross beneath.
Heidi Brunner Abbott
Born May 24th, 1930
Died June 5th, 2016
Member of the French Resistance, WWII
Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
Rhett kissed the headstones belonging to his grandmother and grandfather. Though it had been close to eight years since they had passed, the wounds were still fresh. River and Heidi had been married for sixty-six years, enduring unimaginable turmoil as young adults. Oma Heidi had been fourteen when she had joined the Resistance before leaving her native Switzerland and had seen things that no child should have ever had to see. Grandpa River had been the same, seeing the ranch through one drought after another, having to take care of his own ailing father and helping provide for the family all through the Depression on top of going to school. He had met Heidi while the two had been at the University of Wyoming, the two of them having gotten married young and him having been shipped off to Korea after their honeymoon. Rhett still remembered the little slip of paper in his grandmother's trunk, a little note from River that said only three words....."wait for me".
Up the path came two familiar faces, Joy and Martha with Rosie in tow. "Mornin," Joy greeted. "Didn't think we'd see you two here."
Rhett laughed a little bit. "Just payin a visit Joy."
"Oh you too?"
Rhett nodded.
Out of her pocket, Joy pulled a small feather, a white one with black streaks along the tip. "Here," she said. "I meant to leave that the other day."
"Joy ya'll didn't have to," Rhett told her.
"It's alright," she promised him. "I already left one for Gramps anyways."
You and Rhett followed Joy and Martha down the path a bit of a ways to a hill where the mountains were in full view. Rosie excitedly pointed to the stone belonging to her great-grandfather, proudly showing Amy and the others.
Robert "Red" Hawk
Born July 4th, 1923
Died August 18th, 2017
US Army Infantry, Shoshone Code Talker, Omaha Beach Veteran
Beloved father and grandfather, tribal elder of Shoshone First Nations
"Amy honey, do you and Rosie wanna help put the flags out?" you asked.
The girls excitedly said yes as you, Rhett, Joy and Martha swapped stories about your loved ones, the girls picking lilac sprigs to sprinkle over the graves.
"God I'll never forget the story Dad told us when Marty and I got married," Joy chuckled. "Grampy supposedly stole a bunch of horses while he was in Europe and had them shipped back to the states."
You and Rhett laughed at the tale. "Oh God that reminds me of when Papa stole a bunch of cattle from an enemy camp in Korea. Them and the guys from the South Korean army ate pretty damn good for the next couple of months."
You all shared some good laughs and a few emotional moments along the way before having to head back home. On the way back, you and Rhett held each other's hands, enjoying the sunshine and the heat of late May as the radio played.
"You think they're still with us?" you asked him.
"I don't doubt it darlin," Rhett said, smiling a little. "Oma and Papa are definitely along for the ride, no matter where we go."
You rested your head against your husband's shoulder, squeezing his hand a little bit, perfectly at ease and content with the world.

National Navajo Code Talkers Day
Navajo  Code Talkers Day, celebrated every year on August 14, is a day that holds great importance in the history of the U.S. This is because the day recognizes the contributions of Native American soldiers during World War II. Yes, Native American soldiers encoded and transmitted messages using a complex Navajo language-based code during a time when secret communication was essential to win a war. And guess what? The code was never broken by Japanese forces in the Pacific and proved to be of great assistance to the U.S. Marines. On this day, celebrate the great American heroes and their service to the nation!
History of Navajo Code Talkers Day
The  C.I.A.’s official site has stated that Navajo was a near ‘perfect’  language that was used to create military codes. This is why it has been  recorded in history and is recognized for its brilliance even today. However, the code wasn’t the language itself but was a communication  form that was encrypted using the Navajo language. Since many people  couldn’t decipher it, the code remained unbreakable throughout the war. It is this success of the code that is celebrated by Americans every  year. National Navajo Code Talkers Day was made a legal state holiday in  2020 by Governor Doug Ducey who signed legislation to honor the courage  of the Navajo Code Talkers and their critical role in the WWII victory.  According to him, the Navajo Code Talkers are “American heroes.”
It all started in 1942 when the U.S. was fighting World War II in the Pacific and needed an unbreakable code to ensure the success of military operations. During this time, Philip Johnston, the son of a missionary who had grown up in the Navajo Nation, suggested a code be created using the Navajo language. After this, there was no turning back and the U.S. government recruited over 400 Navajo men to serve during the war. The Navajo Code Talkers successfully transmitted more than 800 messages without error and helped the U.S. win the war. Hence, in 1982, Navajo Code Talkers Day was established through a presidential proclamation by President Ronald Reagan In 2014, Arizona passed legislation declaring  every August 14 Navajo Code Talkers Day in Arizona.
Here’s a little more on one of the Navajo Code creators Samuel Billison. The man  enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and was a popular code talker. He also served as president of the Navajo Code Talkers  Association.

To find out more about the war and why the efforts of each and every citizen are still applauded, watch a historic documentary.
What  is the Navajo Code? How was it created and what were the words used? You can find out everything you need to know with just a little  research.
5 Interesting Facts You Need To Know About The Navajo Code
Never broken

The code
First deployment
Another Navajo cannot decipher the code
It’s the only oral code in history that has never been broken.
The original twenty-nine men created 211 terms.
Navajo bird names were used and applied to weapons of war.
The Navajo Code Talkers were first deployed to the Battle of Guadalcanal.
Deciphering the code is not possible unless the Navajo is a code talker.
Why Navajo Code Talkers Day is Important
It promotes the Navajo heritage
It recognizes the efforts of the soldiers
It keeps history alive
The  day is important since it promotes Navajo heritage, and also explains  how different cultures and languages can prove to be beneficial in times  of need.
During  the war, the efforts of every soldier were essential for the survival  of the state. This day recognizes the bravery and intelligence that was  used to create the unbreakable Navajo code.
The  day keeps alive the history of the war and the efforts of several  communities who aided the United States in reaching success.

Warhammer 2023 - My list of favourites this year
Tumblr media
The new year is almost upon us, and this means I'm attempting to list off my favourite Warhammer miniatures of this year. And just like last year, I'm including Forge World stuff.
10. - Alchemite Warforger:
Tumblr media
The first in what I hope is a returning series of Lore-specific wizards for AoS. The Alchemite Warforger is a wizard from the Gold College, seconded to the Freeguild armies to be used as a specialist in alchemy and Metal-magic.
Much like their ancestors from Warhammer Fantasy, the Warforgers work their magic on both friend and foe; their allies gain a sharper edge, while their enemies might die after their armor is melted off through sorcery.
The release of the new cities of Sigmar range featured a lot of good stuff. It was very difficult to pick just one. Any part of the range looks stunning, but for me, the Warforger was the first miniature that made my jaw drop. It is a wizard that actually fits its function and profession instead of being a guy in robes and it is a nice centerpiece for a small Freeguild force.
9. - Skabbik's Plaguepack:
Tumblr media
To be perfectly honest. I forgot that this warband was a thing. Yet I would do it a disservice to leave it at that.
The Plaguepack are Skaven dedicated to the diseased teachings of the Clans Pestilens. They've traveled to the carniverous jungle of the Gnarlwood, in search of an ingredient for one of the legendary 13 Plagues. Their search eventually leads them to the undergrowth of the Wyrdhollow.
This warband is a microcosm of all that encompasses Clan Pestilens and it is one of the most characterful warbands released this year. And there were some strong contenders! However, what I see in this release is a glimpse at the potential for a big Skaven rework in the future. 4th Edition AoS is rumoured to feature the Ratmen in great supply, and I can't wait to see more.
8. - MKIII Tactical Squad:
Tumblr media
This year's award to best Space Marine goes to the MK3 pattern of power armor. I've seen a lot of divisive opinions on this one.
MK3 "Iron Armor" was an adaptation of its previous armor mark, with added protection and frontal plating. It was the answer to the cramped and confined spaces of Space vessels (and in older sources, was specifically used to fight the Squat Empire). Even after millenia, the armor is still favoured by certain chapters and chaos legions.
I don't care what anybody says. This is a massive upgrade to their previous iteration. I have seen people complain that they look too lanky and that the spike makes no sense. I don't understand these opinions.
From the better proportions to a better and more faithfully designed helmet, it is a straight upgrade. It is also an amazing treasure trove for conversions. I think a lot of Chaos Marine players will be using this set for their own projects.
7. - The Drakfang Thirsters:
Tumblr media
Vampires are almost perfect players for Blood Bowl. Their supernatural strength and agility gives them the perfect physique, with each vampire being a Star-player in their own right. Their penchant for hypnosis also helps in sabotaging the opponent. Their big weakness is their lust for blood, which they need to constantly sate.
The Drakfang Thirsters are the most famous of Vampire teams. Owned by the Pavalence Estate, they were the ones who first suggested adding in thralls to their roster, allowing the vampire players an easy blood-source to keep their urges at bay.
Games Workshop always manages to nail the Vampire aesthetic in their model line, and Blood Bowl is no different. They in fact went with a more classical approach, while still maintaining the bat-like aesthetic in their armor. I even like the thralls, who look malnourished and clearly show signs of getting their blood drained, with certain limbs being tied down to restrict blood flow.
I'm also glad to see the vampiric philosophy of "boobs-out" still shining through.
6. - Adeptus Arbites Exaction Squad:
Tumblr media
I was excited for this Kill Team since being teased in the New Years reveal, and they didn't disapoint. Necromunda Enforcers are nice, but the Arbites is what everyone wanted out of Evil Space Police.
The Adeptus Arbites are what many might refer to as the "Federal Police Force" of the Imperium. They concern themselves with more important issues than what a local enforcement agency deals with, which includes overseeing if a planet pays its tithes.
When a planet in the Imperium revolts, the Arbites are usually the primary targets to take down. A precinct of Arbitrators is oftentimes better equipped and protected than the local army, and those wishing to secede from the Imperium know this.
An Exaction Squad is a specified team of arbitrators and enforcers tasked with hunting down a high-profile individual for interrogation or imprisonment.
It is so nice to see the Arbites return after all these years, and I hope more is in stock for them. I like the more knightly design of their armor and the fact you can model all of them to have either a shotgun or a riot shield and baton is surprisingly generous.
I do have some gripes. Like with the Navy Breachers, I dislike certain choices made by the design team. I've noticed for example that Games Workshop really likes making models have their upper scalp exposed, and I just wished that was not the case. I also wish there was more variety in the helmeted options and that they looked at the old concept art for inspiration. I also wished the Proctor had an overcoat, though they might want to save that for a proper judge.
5. - Fellgor Ravagers:
Tumblr media
I'm going to give props to the Kill Team designers for bringing in a diverse range of new units that probably would've remained unsupported and forgotten in mainline 40k. Nobody would've ever expected Beastmen to get a unit.
Beastmen are a type of "Abhuman" typified by their bestial physical traits, such as horns and hooves. Oftentimes, they were mutated either through heavy pollution or high exposure to the Warp. Similar to their Fantasy/AoS counterpart, many of them are corrupted by Chaos.
Fellgors are Chaos Beastmen who have climbed the ranks to be considered the elite of their pack, and favoured by the Dark Gods. The Warp-tainted gifts they've received, have turned them into apex hunters, becoming a way more dangerous threat than would first appear.
While I'm slightly disapointed by the Chaos-heavy angle they went for the Space Beastmen, the overall execution of this Kill Team is still top-notch. Once again, the personality and flavour of each specialist is awsome to see and I especially love the gas-masked Toxhorn throwing gas grenades...
...Now stop being cowards and give us Beastmen Auxilia for the Militarum.
4. - Lictor:
Tumblr media
10th Edition was heralded by the 4th Tyrannic War, and this included a new and updated range for the Tyranids. My favourite this year was the humble Lictor.
Lictors are terrifying Tyranid assassin's, known in infamy for being one of the deadliest bioforms the hive mind can bring to the table. They are expert hunters unbeaten in their field. They can lie motionless for days before striking a target, and have been documented to visibly stalk people to completely traumatise them. Their proboscis tentacles can suck out brains, and from that they gain the memories of their victims. These creatures are absolutely horrific.
I want to emphasize with the Lictor one of the things I love in a Warhammer sculpt, which is modeling options. The updated tyranid range gained some well deserved kits with a lot of fun options, including the Termagants gaining a boatload of weapon options. The Lictor is similar. While I love the updated look of what was an incredibly ancient kit, it also came with multiple posing options, including two different heads. I love the hunched down Lictor the most (not including the fact that Hive Fleet Behemoth is also the best paint scheme).
3. - Gorger Mawpack:
Tumblr media
I screamed when these were revealed, as I've been waiting for them to redo the Gorgers since I first saw them.
Gorgers in their original iteration, were the forsaken and malnourished runts of Ogre society; abandoned inside the dark caverns of the Mountains of Mourn to become sacrifices for the Great Maw. The infants that survive their first few days try to survive by eating anything they can find in these pitch-black caves, which eventually leads to them consuming Warpstone.
In AoS, Gorgers are those unfortunate Ogors who have succumbed to the dreaded Empty Belly Curse; an affliction that destroys their guts and forbids them the joys of eating any food. Anything they try to eat tastes like ash and gives them no nourishment at all. They are basically endlessly starving.
This kit surpassed anything from my wildest imagination, as it is one of the best glow-ups of the century. They look more gnarly than their resin predecessor and the kit benefits from way more options. I also love how these could both fit the Old World and Age of Sigmar. I just wished their original background lore was still relevant in the Mortal Realms.
2. - Corpse Harvesting Party:
Tumblr media
I've probably already said this, but Necromunda as a setting blows 40k out of the water, and the Corpse Harvesting Party is a prime example of that. It is such a great deep dive into the Imperium's horrid society, while also showcasing how diverse just one planet can be.
The Mercator Pallidus or Corpse Guild is the merchant guild associated with the collection of the dead, which they turn into a food-source called Corpse Starch. To do this, the guild sends out a corpse harvesting party to act like vultures in the Hive city, searching for freshly killed corpses to bring back to their processing plants.
It always excites me to see anything coming for Necromunda, since they always hit their mark. The Corpse Harvesting Party oozes personality and aesthetic brilliance, while also remaining consistent to the Imperium's overall design. I love how the Corpse Grinders in the retinue resemble their khornate counterparts, while the Bone Scrivener is just plain "Blanchian". I wonder if it's actually a Squat.
1. - Slann Starmaster:
Tumblr media
2023 saw the refresh of a couple ranges, including Tyranids and the Flesh Eater Courts. However, my favourite of these refreshes was the Seraphon. The Old lizardmen gained a glow-up like no other, and their masters followed suit.
The Slann are creations of the Old Ones, and were spawned to aid in the development of the Great Plan. When the Old Ones disappear into the void, they become the regent rulers of the Lizardmen. They are the most powerful Sorcerers in Warhammer; being able to destroy mountains with a flick of their wrist.
During the End Times, the Lizardmen had to eventually flee the Warhammer World and flew off into space. Then, after eons of flying into nothingness, they would be guided to the Mortal Realms by Dracothion, and would recommence the Great Plan to eradicate Chaos from reality once and for all.
I truly believe this miniature deserves the win this year. It probably won't since Angron and Lion El'Johnson came out this year, but the Slann Starmaster trumps them both in sheer design and personality. I love the amount of options you can get with this kit as well, from the items the Slann itself carries, to the amount of Skinks you can add as a servant. You can even add a tiny Coatl to his stand, and doesn't that deserve the instant win?
______________________________________________________________
I really liked this year's releases. We gained a new edition of 40k with a splendid release of Tyranid models, while also gaining the refresh of multiple AoS ranges, with most of them being absolute bangers. We gained some great character models, from Vashtorr to Eternus, and the Kill Teams this year were some of the best.
Next year proves even more promising. The Old World is soon approaching and I can't wait to see what it brings. AoS is approaching its next edition, with potential Skaven releases to herald its arrival. I already have two new models I can add to next year's top 10, and both are vampiric in nature.
If I would wish for anything next year, it would be more Kill Teams for Xenos players and an update to the Clans Skryre for Skaven.
Anyways. I wish all of you a great holiday and winter season.
Until next year.

4th December 1942 - Atlanta, GA
When we finally arrive in Atlanta and board the train, Sink is, of course, incredibly proud of us for beating the Japanese. However, that doesn't do much for the blisters on our feet. I exhale deeply as I drop into the seat, and Don sits beside me. "God damn, I'm fucked," I grumble, and Don nods in agreement, "Yep, I couldn't agree more." He pulls off his boots and socks, then rubs his feet. "Jesus, I'm never going to be able to walk again," he says dramatically, and I laugh. Sitting down across from us now are George and Skip, who also look slightly pained. They take off their boots too quickly, and it doesn't take long for a real stench to spread through the train. "Jesus Christ," I grumble, holding my sleeve in front of my nose as I slide down in my seat.
"Get used to it, sweetheart," George grins across from me, and I roll my eyes. "Like you could get used to it. God, my eyes are burning," I say, and the boys laugh. "Here, maybe this will help," Don says, holding out a smoke to me.
Suddenly Vest comes rushing up to me. "Here you go, Sarge," he says and puts a letter in my hand. "And this is from Lieutenant Roush," he continues, handing me a piece of paper. "Thanks, Vest." I briefly skim the lines from Roush, who has sent me the program for the next few days, but then turn to the letter. It is from Tommy, my brother. I sit down on my bed and open the letter.
4th December 1942 - Fort Benning, GA
Finally arriving at Fort Benning, we are assigned to barracks and moved into our beds. Our belongings are already here and lying on our cots. It looks like they assigned them the same way as in Toccoa.
My dearest sister
I hope you are well. Father told me they transferred you because of disagreement in your old company. I hope you don't let them get you down and show them the ropes.
"What's that?" I suddenly hear a voice next to my ear, and Don sits beside me on the bed. "Oh, just a letter from my brother." "Which one? The Marine or the Ranger?" I laugh and look at Don before folding the letter and pocketing it. "The Ranger," I laugh. "I'm guessing Damon is already on a ship somewhere." I stand up and take the paper from Roush again. "Hey, Lip?" I say then and walk towards him. "Yeah?" "Let's round up the guys; I've got news," I say, and he nods before leaving the barracks.
"Okay, 2nd Platoon, school circle in front of the barracks," I call out, and the guys follow me. When we have everyone together, I look at the list. "Lieutenant Roush gave me the program for the next few days. Tomorrow, 0600, breakfast. 0630, the first lessons of jump training begin. In the afternoon, we'll get to know the tools... Until then. Free pass until tomorrow morning." The men cheer and then disperse again. Don immediately puts an arm around my shoulder again. "Well, how does it look, Stark? Are we going out?" I look up at him with a laugh. "What kind of question is that, Donnie?" "Come on! Don't call me that!" "Sorry, Don-nie." He playfully pushes me off him. "You really are the plague sometimes, Liv, you know that?" "I'm well aware of that, Don." "Now go take a shower, you stink," he grins, and I look at him theatrically indignant. Dramatically, I raise a hand and place it on my chest, " Oh my, Donald. How could you say something like that to a lady." "If you see one, let me know, will you?" He grins and heads off to join Skip and the others.
I go back to the barracks and get my shower supplies. As I step outside, First Sergeant Evans approaches me. "Olivia, you're just the person I was looking for," he says, and I look at him, confused. When Evans looks for you, it usually doesn't mean good things. He is Sobel's puppy, after all. "What can I do for you, First Sergeant?" I ask slightly sarcastically, but he doesn't seem to notice, or he's just chosen to ignore it. "Captain Sobel wanted me to inform you that we can no longer provide you with separate showers here. He also said that it's time you got used to it." I look at Evans with raised eyebrows. " Uh-huh," is all I say. Evans eyes me for a moment before nodding and walking away again. "Doggy," I grumble, briefly considering how I will make this work so I can shower in peace.
Then I see Skinny just coming out of his barracks. "Hey, Skinny. Have you seen Don, Skip, or George?" I ask, but he shakes his head. "No, I'm afraid I haven't. They all disappeared earlier. Probably scouting the area. Why?" " Dammit," I curse under my breath. "Well, it looks like I don't have separate showers anymore, and I need someone to stand guard." Skinny eyes me for a moment. "Well... If you want, I could do that," he offers, and I look at him in surprise. "You sure? Surely you have better things to do." "I don't know what. Come on." I consider for a moment. "Fine, but no peeking, okay?" "Promise," he smiles at me, and we walk to the showers together.
I take a deep breath and then grab the pack. "Thanks, Joe!" says Skinny, and then he's already skipping away. "Fuck," I grumble to myself and then light a smoke. My eyes briefly wander to the entrance of the shower barrack, and I can't help myself. I take a step forward and look inside. There I see her. She stands with her back to me and rinses her hair down. I can't see much, just the upper part of her back, but even that is just perfect. What I would give to run my hands over it... 'Jesus Joe, what are you thinking again?!'
Joe POV:
With no real destination, I walk around the shower bar, where I spot Skinny. "Hey, what are you doing here?" I ask, confused. "Oh, I'm just keeping an eye on Liv. She doesn't have separate showers anymore, it seems." I snort and raise my eyebrows. "Well, have fun with that," I say, and I am about to move on when Lipton walks up to us. "Hey, Skinny, Roush is looking for you," he says. "Shit, now?", Skinny asks back, and Lipton nods before continuing on his way. "Fuck," Skinny grumbles. "Hey Joe, can you do me a favor?" I look at him, and what he wants from me quickly dawns on me. "No, oh no. I won't. Do I look like a fucking guard dog?" "Come on, please. I promised Liv I'd keep watch." "Yes, you did, but I didn't." Skinny thinks for a second, then pulls a pack of smokes out of his pocket and holds them out to me. "Please."
Suddenly Liv turns around, and I recoil. I hear the water being turned off, and about five minutes later, Liv comes out of the barracks and stops, faltering, when she sees me. Her long blond hair is still wet, and she has tied it into a side braid, but they wet her fresh OD's again. "Where's Skinny?" she asks me directly, and I try to look at her bored. "He had to go see Roush," I say, and Liv looks around uncomfortably. "And what are you doing here?" she asks me then. "What does it look like I'm doing? Wasting my time." Liv looks at me perplexed, which makes me groan in annoyance. "Skinny asked me to take over to preserve your dignity, Your Majesty." Liv snorts out, then walks past me, annoyed. "You really are an idiot," she grumbles, stomping off to our barracks. "You're welcome, milady. A simple thank you would have been quite enough" I call after her, and she gives me the middle finger.
I shake my head in amusement and watch my best friend excitedly discuss something with Penkala for a moment before taking out my brother's letter. Next to me, Liebgott has also thrown himself onto his bed and is reading his comics. I unfold the letter and start rereading it.
Liv's POV:
Back in the barracks, I throw my things into the box in front of my bed. "What's the matter with you?" I hear Don, who is just coming in. Liebgott enters the room behind him, and our eyes meet briefly. "Nothing," I grumble and sit down on my bed. "Hey, we found a little dance club not far from here," Don says excitedly, and I look at him. "I could have told you that." Don looks at me, confused. "I did graduate from OCS here, silly." "Right... I totally forgot about that. But anyway. Unpack your dancing shoes; we're going dancing."
My dearest sister
I hope you are well. Father told me they transferred you because of a disagreement in your old company. I hope you don't let them get you down and show them the ropes. You are strong, Liv; never forget that!
We were stationed at Camp Pendelton the last time, and I was home briefly when I was furloughed. Mom told me that Cindy is going to the Pacific now. It's not definite with you guys yet, is it? Mom is not happy at all. She fears for all of us. Damon is already somewhere in the Pacific, Cindy will be soon, I'm going to Europe, and you... Who knows where you'll be sent? Definitely behind enemy lines.
Mom was crying. She cried a lot. She also kept asking why we were so stupid and couldn't just stay home like Lily. Lily's pregnant, by the way. Crazy, isn't it? I think Logan was with her briefly a few months ago, and yeah... He's stationed at Pearl Harbor and probably won't be sent away now.
I miss you, Liv. I sincerely hope you are okay. I know you don't like to hear it, but if they make your life hell, you should reach out to Dad. I heard about the paratroopers. The training is supposed to be hard, and the dropout rate is very high.
Stop making a face because I know that's what you're doing now. I'm not saying you're not up to it, Minnie because you are, but I'm suggesting that no one judges you if you decide to put all this behind you.
I'm sorry, I don't like the idea of you going to war with a bunch of men. If anyone touches you, I swear to you, Liv, I'll kick their ass!
Well, enough about me. Write to me as soon as you can, will you?
Tears come to my eyes as I fold the letter back up. It's amazing how well my brother knows me. I wipe my tears away for a moment, stow the letter in my clothes, and then change.
Love you. I'll see you soon.
Tommy
George twirls me around the dance floor for one more song when someone taps him on the shoulder. "May I?" asks Skip, smiling at me. "Sure thing," George says, putting my hand in Skips. "That looked turbulent. You and Luz," Skip laughs, and I nod. "Yeah, I guess George got a little carried away." Skip's dancing style is different from George's. He's calmer and less hyper.
The dance hall is quite crowded, but that does not surprise us. Most of the soldiers still have a free pass until tomorrow morning and, of course, take advantage of this. I'm sitting at a table with Don, Skip, and Penk, drinking my beer when George comes up to us.
"Well, pretty lady? How about a dance?" he asks, wiggling his eyebrows as he holds his hand to me. "Well, I put on my dancing shoes for something," I grin and take his hand. George leads me to the dance floor and begins to lead me. It's a short piece which is why George is at first fumbling with how I dance, and when he realizes I'm fully letting him lead me, he starts twirling me around. I laugh out loud. "Wow, George. I had no idea what a wild dancer you were," I laugh. "That's not the only thing I'm wild at, Sweetheart," he grins back, and I shake my head in amusement. "But you're a natural."
After dancing with George, Skip, Penk, Bill, and Joe Toye, I need a break. Out of breath, I sit down next to Don, who grins at me. "Had enough yet?" he asks, and I exhale. "Yep, I need a break. Just George alone almost broke me." "Lucky you saved the best for last," Don grins, and I punch him in the arm. "But of course." I look around. Many soldiers are talking or dancing with young nurses stationed here or local women. "You do know you can dance with someone else, right? Find yourself a pretty girl," I ask Don then, and he nods. "I know, but I can't leave you alone with the vultures, can I?" "I'm a big girl Don. I can take care of myself." "Yeah yeah, I know, sweetheart. Come on, let me make you a deal. We'll dance now, and after that, I'll find a pretty girl and dance with her. Deal?" "Deal."
Don leads me to the dance floor. "Wow, lucky I saved you for last. I don't think my feet will survive another dance after this," I grin and Don gives me a slightly hurt look. "It's not that bad, is it?" "No, I'm just kidding, Donnie. You're quite the dancer." Don unexpectedly whirls me off him and then pulls me to his chest. "Didn't I tell you not to call me that?" he whispers in my ear, and somehow the situation is bizarre right now. Then he whirls me off him again and leads me back to normal. I can't help it and have to laugh. "What was that?" I ask, and he winks at me.
Suddenly the man on the small stage shouts, "Partner swap!" Slightly overwhelmed, I look at Don, who shrugs his shoulders, looks up, and then whirls me on. I land in new arms and falter when I look up. "Great," I mutter. Of course, I've landed in Liebgott's arms with my luck. I didn't even notice that he was also on the dance floor. "Breathe a little, Stark. Jesus, I think your feet are better off with me than with Malarkey." I look at him in surprise. "Oh yeah?" "Yeah." And unfortunately, I have to agree with him. Liebgott can dance. "I'll just take your silence as confirmation." Briefly, my gaze wanders to Don, who winks at me and points his head at Liebgott.
I roll my eyes. "Where did you learn to dance like that?" I ask then, not expecting a reasonable answer from him. "My mother... She sent my sisters and me to dance lessons from a very young age. She always said there was nothing more attractive than a man who knew how to dance," he explains, and I'm surprised he's telling me this. "Well, she's not wrong about that," I return, and our eyes meet briefly. Liebgott clears his throat and then looks away from me again. My gaze wanders to my hand in his. Why does this feel so right? I think I see his thumb stroking my hand, but I'm probably just imagining it. God damn it, what is this man doing to me?
Lost in thought, I don't notice that the song has ended, and now a slow song is playing. Liebgott, however, does not seem to intend to let me go and pulls me a little closer. Now I can breathe in his scent, which almost drives me crazy. Inconspicuously, I look around and quickly notice that Don is no longer on the dance floor, and many others have also sat down again. Then I catch a rather unfriendly look from a redhead standing next to the dance floor with her arms folded. When I look back up at Liebgott, I realize that she was probably his dance partner and that he has now just left her standing.
I bite my lips briefly and then smile. Just as he is about to return it, someone approaches us.
"Hey, lovebirds. We're heading out. Are you coming?" George asks, grinning at both of us. We quickly let go of each other, and both look away, embarrassed. "Coming," I say and walk towards the table to grab my things and put on my jacket.
As I step outside, an already grinning Don puts his arm around my shoulders. "Looks like you saved the best for last." "What are you talking about, Malarkey?" I ask, frowning. "Well, you and Liebgott. You don't know how lovely that looked, you in his arms." "Oh, shut up! That was nothing." "It didn't look like nothing to me, sweetheart. I did a great job, didn't I, Skip?" he then asks in the direction of Skip, who is high-fiving him. "You sure did, Malark." "You did that on purpose?" Don grins and shrugs. "Maybe, maybe not." I look at him angrily. "I'll make you pay for that, Malarkey!"
"You'll thank me someday, Stark."

Military Civil War Begins
Tumblr media
A clash between White Hats and armed forces members loyal to the criminal Biden regime took place late Monday night south of Colorado Springs, along Interstate 25, where United States Marines under General David H. Berger’s command planned to ensnare an 18-wheeler suspected of holding yet another shipment of firearms destined for the IRS.
Intelligence, sources told Real Raw News, indicated the truck would be teeming with crates of sidearms, rifles, and ammunition. The source would not specify from where General Berger obtained his intel, but said that “it seemed credible enough to act on.”
General Berger “activated” a Marine Recon platoon—about 25 men—to intercept the truck and seize ordnance found within. Marines reportedly had the make and model of the semi, as well as the plate numbers and projected route. General Berger had scrutinized the vehicle’s expected route of transit and decided that the Marines, driving civilian SUVs, should ambush it from fore and aft.
By 11:30 p.m. the Marines had laid their trap: Three SUVs would peel out in front of the tractor trailer, while the other two, hidden in a densely wooded alcove beside the interstate, would bring up the rear, essentially trapping the truck.
At 1:00 a.m. the Marines, equipped with thermal optics and, according to our source, “modern tech not known to the public,” spotted their quarry cruising toward them. It had only two occupants, both of whom appeared to be civilian. The Marines swerved onto the interstate, pinching the truck between the front and rear elements. Six Marines dismounted with weapons drawn, approached the cab, and ordered the occupants to exit with their hands raised. The driver and the passenger complied and seemed shocked, our source said. The Marines then examined the manifest, which made no mention of weapons. Instead, it listed the cargo as 250 cases of N-95 facemasks.
When the Marine in charge of the operation, a second lieutenant, asked for the key to the padlock securing the trailer doors, the driver shrugged his shoulders and said only the cargo’s recipient had a key. Our source said the Marines didn’t bother hunting for a key because they’d brought bolt cutters, which they used to snap the lock.
No sooner had two Marines opened the doors than a phalanx of brutal gunfire erupted from within the trailer. Six uniformed soldiers, three prone and three standing, unleashed upon the Marines a hailstorm of lead. One marine was struck three times, twice in the chest, once in the neck, and died almost instantly. Another Marine took rounds to his shoulder and face and was bleeding profusely as one of his brothers, also shot, pulled him from the line of fire, while the other Marines dove for cover behind their vehicles and returned fire, emptying several magazines on both the truck and the treasonous soldiers inside. All six were KIA.
The Marines evaluated their situation: One man dead, one near death, a few superficial wounds, damaged but drivable vehicles, and six dead U.S. Army soldiers who had tried to ambush their ambush. The Marines arrested the driver and passenger, who were “pissing their pants,” and commandeered the truck, which held no cargo whatsoever.
“This is a major escalation,” our source said, “and a tragedy. We’re not talking about a fight between White Hats and corrupt feds. This is military on military. General Berger is saddened by this all.”
Insignia on the fallen soldiers’ uniforms showed they belonged to the 4th Infantry Division, out of Fort Carson, Colorado.
“Obviously there was a leak, and we got fed bad intel. General Berger will get to the bottom of this,” our source said.
Update: The six deceased U.S. Army wore dog tags. White Hats will attempt to check dental records to either confirm or deny whether they were soldiers or imposters.
