Iris Loves Barry

Can we talk about the crossover for a little bit? Elseworlds cemented the fact Iris loves Barry for HIM. She loves how light and positive he is. She loves how he's driven by hope and optimism.

Barry knows Iris well. He knew that in order for Iris to believe him all he had to do was tell her how much he cared about her. Oliver laughed at Barry for suggesting he tell Iris she's his lightning rod. I'm sure he found it corny. He should have taken notes because WestAllen are happily married while his marriage was on the rocks but I digress.

But you know what? Iris loves it. Yes its cheesy and corny but let's be real, Barry Allen makes it work. It's his sincerity that sells it. She's brought to tears when he says it to her

Barry says this kind of thing all the time to Iris. "Your voice will always bring me home" "Loved you before I even knew what the word love meant" "You're my home" "You're everything to me and you always have been" She melts every time. We see she's always taken aback and amazed at just how much Barry loves her. She wouldn't have Barry any other way

Muse: A Concept (er- a fic explanation)

Have you ever seen a fic of mine that you enjoyed reading, but months later when you wanted to find it on either AO3 or FFnet, no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t?

I believe I may have the answer to all your frustration.

Muse - a fic in which I post all my oneshots that are based purely off spoilers, starting in 3x01.

Drabbles - a fic in which I post all the oneshots I get that are requests (I’ll make a separate post for this one)

I started each of these before I discovered the series feature on AO3, and so instead of being separate stories, each of these are just a chapter in one of these stories. And chances are, they are title-less (at least for Muse, minus the ep it’s supposed to be in), so if you’re searching for something, it is prob near impossible to find again unless you remember the chapter - and story - it was in.

The purpose of this post is to give a short synopsis of each chapter in Muse (as said before, I’ll make a separate one for Drabbles), so that if you’d like to reread an old fav of mine that you can’t find elsewhere, you should hopefully be able to find it here.

Chapter 1 Episode: 3.01 Written: prior to s3 premiere Inspiration: the tweet by Matt Mitovitch, following up the line "We were something else to each other where you come from, weren't we?", he says 'It's what SHE says next that is *crying emoji*'

Chapter 2 Episode: 3.02 Written: post 3.01, after seeing the 3.02 promo Inspiration: the brief seconds of a Barry & Iris scene in the 3.02 extended promo and this quote by Candice Patton: "Once we kind of get out of Flashpoint, they’re going to have to deal with knowing that they knew each other in that timeline and what that means for them in their relationship and if they want to move forward or if things have just changed so much that they can’t."

Chapter 3 Episode: 3.04 Written: post 3.03, after seeing the Superhero All Week promo Inspiration: the Superhero All Week promo released after 3.03 aired where Barry & Iris (at the very least) make out on a couch (note: candle spotted in the scene). This snippet is the lead up scene to that.

Chapter 4 Episode: Assumed post 3.09 (the context of this scene was cut from whatever episode it was in, so there’s no way to know for sure) Written: post 3.07 Inspiration: Tom Cavanagh & Candice Patton's comments at a panel that HR asks out Iris in a future episode and how Barry & Iris react.

Chapter 5 Episode: 3.10 Written: post 3.09, after seeing the 3.10 extended promo Inspiration: the opening scene in the 3.10 extended promo when Barry is zipping up Iris's dress on their way to the housewarming party. (This chap includes the events that lead up to that moment and some closing lines for after the party is over.)

Chapter 6 Episode: 3.21 Written: post 3.20, after seeing the 3.21 episode stills Inspiration: multiple promos all featuring footage from this episode [3.21], in addition to the Barry & Iris 3.21 episode still. (This is the scene featured in that episode still + a little extra.)

Chapter 7 Episode: 4.01-4.02 Written: prior to s4 premiere Inspiration: the DCTV promo featuring Barry listing everything he had for breakfast to Joe & Captain Singh, as well as interviews implying that Barry appears to be out of it when first emerging from the speed force. This chapter showcases Barry and Iris coming home after, and it incorporates Iris' confused feelings about it.

Chapter 8 Episode: 4.02 Written: prior to s4 premiere Inspiration: the DCTV promo (same as prevs chap) featuring Barry saying (to Iris) “the weight of the whole city is on my shoulders” and Iris’ complicated feelings on his leaving her to go into the speed force, as indicated in interviews. Also, some dialogue from the 4.01 The Flash Reborn promo were incorporated.

Chapter 9 Episode: 4.01 Written: prior to s4 premiere Inpsiration: The Flash Reborn promo showcasing a fully-bearded Barry Allen and the fact that he’s clean-shaven later on in the promo, as well as some scenes from the SDCC s4 promo. (This is a humor/slightly angsty fic about shaving Barry and the Cisco/Iris banter that comes with doing that.)

Chapter 10 Episode: 4.02 Written: post 4.02 Inspiration: Grant’s answer to being asked how Barry will react to Iris being team leader when he comes out of the speed force: "I think he just naturally just kind of steps up. I think he’s a little oblivious to the dynamic at first, to be honest. He’ll put his foot in his mouth a couple of times, but I don’t think he’s being hardheaded about, ‘You’re not the leader. I’m the leader.’ It’s more like, ‘Oh, this is the dynamic now.’ So, we definitely in the first and second episodes see him adjusting to the new dynamic. But, he’s cool with it. I think we really are going to see a more mature, open Barry than we’ve seen. He’s not going to be quite as hardheaded and stubborn with his friends." 

Chapter 11 Episode: 5.01 Written: prior to s5 premiere Inspiration: Early filming pics of season 5 where Barry is wearing his season 1 suit. This chap is about how Iris is affected by the change in suit and why the red emblem is used instead of the white one.

Chapter 12 Episode: 5.01 Written: prior to s5 premiere Inspiration: Early s5 promos. In this chap, Nora tells Barry about his future, and he shares the news with Iris.

Chapter 13 Episode: 5.02 Written: prior to s5 premiere Inspiration: Grant and Candice's commentary from SDCC 2018 on how Barry and Iris process Nora being there in a negative way (i.e. Barry feeling like Nora being there is taking yet another thing away from him and Iris feeling jealous by Barry & Nora's bond and Nora's clear distancing of her). This chap shows them isolating themselves to internalize their feelings and then wordlessly finding comfort in each other.

Chapter 14 Episode: 5.01 Written: prior to s5 premiere Inspiration: The look on Barry’s face at the end of the 5.01/02 promo after Nora tells him about the future in the time vault.

Chapter 15 Episode: 5.04 Written: prior to 5.04 Inspiration: Candice Patton's mention of Iris making pancakes in a future episode and the 5.04 flashtime promo showing snippets of that happening.

Chapter 16 Episode: 5.05 Written: prior to 5.05 Inspiration: All spoilers for 5.05 indicating Barry & Iris go to a formal event (i.e. bts pics, episode synopsis, flashtime promo).

Chapter 17 Episode: 5.09/Elseworlds Crossover Written: prior to 5.09 Inspiration: All spoilers related to the Oliver/Barry switch and how that affects Barry and Iris’ relationship.

Chapter 18 Episode: 7.15 Written: prior to 7.15 Inspiration: 7x15 sneak peek where Barry reveals Iris is home sick, implying she might be pregnant and dealing with morning sickness.
