WEEK 6- FILL THIS
One from Aotearoa Gerbrand - Why I choose Gerbrand
The reason why I choose Gerbrand is because of his roots and where he is now. From the stories he tells us, G started as a designer for gigs, small punk bands. I see myself where G was when he was younger. Right now I'm designing for 95bfm and during high school I designed posters for our high school gigs. and G's design progression reflects his roots. you can still see the inner punk in his designs though now it's a bit more professional and complex he never shies away from a challenge and experimentation and it never lacks his personality
Joseph Churchward - Why I choose Churchward The reason why I choose Churchward is that his fonts really speak to me. i never knew this man personally but his fonts tell a story of who he is and where he came from. just like G, his work shows who he is regardless of what kind of work he is doing. his adaptability and wide skill range in terms of font design are what I aspire to be. to his clients his fonts are just another bauhaus like font or another sanserif font that reflects their brand. but to him and to the people who knows his font shows his culture and the roots behind it
Two Must be practicing today -The design republic, Ian Anderson. Design Republic work is the aesthetic that I aspire to be these days. I love the clean design they make the playfulness and the vibrant colors while keeping it clean and edgy is just right up my alley. they have a goal of leaving a strong narrative to the audience and the client by using strategic thinking and problem-solving into their design. just like what they said in their About page "They want to provoke the desired response" which is something I believe I should also try and achieve for my designs.
Poppy design.
Chris Ashworth -show personality in their work -consistent style and language-because of his style all his work is always unique and irreplaceable -because of his Swiss gritty art style, he can be adaptable in both professional and grunge youth field -this order in the chaos he creates, he doesn't just make random crap he makes crap out of random
I want to achiev chaos and and legibility like chris ashworth
Historical Nam Jun Paike Petitbon WaReZ groups (special mention)

W01 The Creative Community
Who are the local and global creatives, designers, illustrators, and photographers that you want to connect with?
Locally:
I would like to connect with innovate studios that work in a sustainable and innovate space such as SeaChange, Alt Group and the DayLight Group.
https://www.seachange.studio/work https://klim.co.nz/
Illustrators:
I admire the work of Frances Haszard as she combines animation and illustration with wider creative communities, creating music videos and media for bands and companies as well as personal work. I really the idea of combining different methods of design communication to create a single out put and would love to work and learn about this space and way of creative practice.
Designers:
Catherine Griffiths TypeSHED11, an international typography symposium, Wellington, NZ typ gr ph c, a series of compact workshops, Karekare, NZ.
1997–2017, 43 Black Pins awarded, 40 men, 3 women / 2018 Best Awards Jury, 46 men, 15 women
Each year the Designers Institute of New Zealand awards two Black Pins, its supreme award. For the past two decades, 43 Black Pins have been awarded, of which 40 have gone to men and 3 to women. For this year’s Best Design Awards (to be announced in September), of the 9 convenors of juries for judging the nine main categories and various sub-categories, 8 are men and 1 is a woman. Of the jurors and convenors combined, 46 are men and 15 are women. The jury for the Value of Design Award is made up of men only, no women.
How has this happened? Where are the women?
I really identify with the feminist drive behind her work. Her posters are bold and clear, using a minimalistic style to emphasize the ridiculous disparity between men's and women's successes in the NZ design industry. Highlighting these issues is so important to keep the design conversation relevant and hold it to a high and fair standard.
I would love to work in the design sector for the Student Radio Station 95bfm. I know they have a volunteer form on their website and I plan to reach out and see if there an any design opportunities in this space. The idea of being involved in a wider community of people in politics, news, music, and students excites me. The design system is super clear and minimal but leaves an iconic impression.

I just now noticed that my Colours of the Wind has got some airplay in a gorgeous show named Citadel of Trash at 95bFM, an independent radio station located on the University of Auckland city campus, broadcasting since 1969. Thank you very much, guide person #16 for including me between two wonderful compositions by Ernests Vilsons and Yannis Kyriakides! The Creative communities:
Who are the local and global creatives, designer, illustrators, photograpers that you want to connect with?
-What are the influences on them and what engages you in their work? I dont really work with anyone locally, I work with my friends sometimes and ask for feedback. I also do commissions online and I read what they want and I draw it for them.
-what ways do you collaborate and engaging communities? I collaborate by working with them and working for them. I designed a poster for 95bfm twice alread. the process was hard buut the idea was simple. Understand them and know who they are and what they stand for and try translate what those are into a visual design + the message the want to put out also without comprimising your own ideas and beliefs
-What impacts, concepts, thematics, and oraganising principles are at play in the creative practice? The worl and everything. this sounds like a cheap answer but literrally everythig affectsx the concept, thematics and organising principles. my mood can be horrible and that horrible mod may change how i think about the work. I try and keep it consistent but I cant deny the fact that world around me affect the outcome by a lot

A word, 95bFM- because you’re the station that raised me
When I heard Alice and Hannah were being made redundant from Breakfast I figured it would've come as a complete surprise to them.
Mikey was the first person I expected Hugh to have secured as a replacement. Who else would they have agreed to allow 10 weeks before expecting them to start actually doing the show? And yes, the argument can totally be made for Mikey being able to attract big advertising and critical funds for the station. Fair enough.
My criticism has to be leveled at the station as a whole, for lacking the vision to work at producing the next Mikey, or the next Charlotte Ryan- successors to the empire- that should've been in the plan since way back.
What I can't understand is why, as a student radio station, there seems to be no strategic plan in place to grow new Mikeys, new Charlottes, from the pool of young people who come in to volunteer every year.
During my time as a DJ there it was like the management spent so much time scrambling for money that they forgot to pay attention to what was actually being broadcasted. There were never resources for new broadcasters to properly learn from anyone experienced, or time for constructive criticism from the programme director (though I'm not even sure that was part of her job). And the more bFM stretched to make money by cutting jobs and accepting any and all advertising, the more the on-air content suffered, and, unsurprisingly, the less appealing it became to actual students who weren't interested in tuning in.
If you read the comments on the Facebook post The Spinoff did announcing the return of Mikey Havoc to Breakfast it's mostly people celebrating the move, and getting nostalgic about the good old days. It's frustrating that these are the people bFM is wanting to appeal to. The people they should want are those who are not old enough to have ever listened to Mikey any of the first couple of times he was there.
Plenty of people have gone through the hallowed grounds of bFM and had their potential left to wither while management energy is spent on financial pressures. bFM should have a plan for this, should have a structure already in place so that people don't get burnt out by the shit pay and lack of support, and instead remain grateful and excited by the opportunity.
Perhaps a remedy to this type of Breakfast business is to change hosts on all daily shows at the start of each year, and spending each year building up  new and awesome people to take up that great mantle. To refocus on being about the integrity of growing new talent, and having them take the lead in the field of independent music.
So, bFM, as it should be, there are many dope, amazing music-heads doing shows for the station. My podcast app is full of subscriptions to them. Mikey is a great broadcaster, but he is certainly not representative of bFM’s supposed goal to be early-adopters.
My friend Kat expressed the sentiment wonderfully, comparing bFM to the Labour party baiting boomers with their immigration policy. I would like to expand on that by pointing out that boomers die sooner. And when boomers die the things they like will die along with them.
You should not be working yourself out of relevance by pandering to listeners who only want to hear their own golden age back on the air. bFM should not be a bottleneck for legacy broadcasters, it should be the place that creates legacy broadcasters.
