#yes this is about aeneas yes im reading more aeneid #heres the thing about the aeneid that really gets me #like we're told from the very beginning of the story that this is a tale of how rome comes to be #a foundational story of homeric scale designed to inspire the people of rome #but then we meet aeneas and he's literally Just Some Guy #like he's a single father and he just lost his dad and he would really like to not be on this boat right now #also this is literally the same thing for turnus except instead of the sense of duty it's the divine rage of juno #like hes on the battlefield hes on his knees his Just Some Guy who didnt really ask for this #and heres aeneas heres the hero heres Rome Itself #but turnus looks into his eyes and for the shortest most desperate moment he sees himself #aeneidposting

I have managed to compel myself to work on homework in earnest but in doing so have accidentally made myself dangerously close to hyperfixating on the secret history again and I really want to reread it with some of the additional context about ancient Greek values etc in mind

#either way it will take fucking forever even without taking into consideration the other things I'm working on #because i would have go through all my classics course materials as well to make sure i have everything i want to analyse in mind #and then close read the secret history #and then i would probably end up writing like. essays about it.#and also im very interested in some other things to do with homers work that are making me wonder how doable it would be #to try tro rewrite tsh into dactylic hexameter. and im also learning latin so should i try to do that in Latin?#but I don't know enough latin for that yet. but also if i ever attempt to write it in that meter #would it be better to wait until i know more latin write it in that and then have a version I'd translated #from that into english? or the other way around?#i have a multitude of other books im supposed to be reading a fic I'm halfway through writing #a coffin im planning to build and a painting in working also. by the way #whoever's idea it was go give me better enough mental health i had energy to do things #must be regretting that decision now this is a trainwreck of way to many projects happening at once #AND i have to finish this essay #mypost

His story is so tragic! I cried hard when he committed suicide. The whole lead up really. Little me was livid with Odysseus but it really wasn’t his fault.

Ajax, who trained with Chiron at the same time Achilles and Patroclus would have been there, who would have known Achilles since he was a toddler, who has been depicted playing board games with Achilles in over 150 ways in antiquity, first carried Patroclus's body back to the Greek camp, protecting him from the Trojans, and then he carried Achilles' body less than a month later in much the same way.

He lost a debate with Odysseus, who had Athena in his ear, over who deserved the armor of his oldest friend. For this he has been mocked throughout history for being "beef-witted" and simpleminded, "weak above the shoulders."

I don't think it was ever about the armor.

To me the Poochie episode of the Simpsons is the Sam and Max episode. ramble ramble in the tags

#sam but he's voiced by dan castellaneta and max is voiced by billy west #not to bang on about it v interesting that voice actors struggled a bit w Sam. classic Homer is probably the closest comparison #classic homer is dumb but he isnt slow. he feels entitled to ramble on about any topic. only comparable character for me tbh #for instance Sam really has that energy of a dad who refuses to read the manual for anything #'then what was that big happy button I pushed?'#'its called a hod Max. A pot is what you're trying to win during poker'#'jessie james REAL HAND. AMAZING.'#sam isnt as lazy tho. thats max's role. ok so The Boy Generals is amateurish but i actually like it. Wesley Merritt is the funniest foil to Custer ever. i had no idea he was there when Custer 'pranked' his wife by pretending he got murdered by Native warriors. i think Merritt showed great restraint not strangling him to death for scaring everyone after a fucked up hunting expedition
