I bet your poems are amazing. My dad and I have this ongoing thing where we send each other poems on our birthdays, or he'll write one for a family event. And they're purposefully cheesy. AABB rhyme scheme with an occasional AABA stanza. But they're always written with a smile, so much heart, and sometimes tears. Even bad poetry is good poetry!
I wrote a few fics for Riverdale and now I'm working on a Christmas fic for the Kingsman movies.
I've been meaning to learn more about Led Zeppelin for so long! (So many bands, so little time!) My favorite song is Fool in the Rain. What are your favorite songs or albums by them?
awww thanks love! i might even be in the moo to share one ngl.
thats beautiful! i love poetry! and the girl im dating and me also send each other poems often. do you write poetry?
i dont do rhymes but i loveee standard ABAB poems <3 I LOVED KINGSMAN 3 OMG OMG OMG WHAT PAIRING R U WRITING???
led zeppelin my beloveds <3 my fav album is Led Zeppelin III and my fav song is probably misty mountain hop? but all are great (going to california fghjkl)

I secretly want to be a singer-songwriter but I have no talent (as in I dont have any training except choir and musical theater)
okay, well, first of all, you’re gonna have to stop saying you have no talent. if you start out thinking you suck, you’re never gonna recognize when you don’t. also, i don’t have any training in singing except choir and musical theatre, so you’re halfway there!
if you want to be a singer-songwriter, here’s what i recommend:
learn an instrument. seriously, any instrument, even ukulele. actually, if you don’t play anything yet i recommend learning ukulele, because they are easier, cheaper, and more convenient than a guitar or a piano, and just as functional for singer-songwriters (see: dodie). obviously playing an instrument is not REQUIRED for being a singer-songwriter, but it’s a HUGE help if you’re by yourself, and especially it’s good for keeping melodies and for taking recordings and for staying in tune and just, in general a really really useful (marketable!) skill.
listen to a lot of music. listen to so much music. listen to a ton of the kind of music you want to write, but also? just listen to all kinds of music. every song is an idea you can steal, and i mean that. (you can only steal the idea though not the lyrics)
make a list of song ideas. what that means is make a list of anything that has any meaning to you at all. big or small. you can put your mom, your dog, your favorite book, the best vacation you ever took, climate change, on and on. the list is supposed to be hella long. this is your ideas list. you can come back to it when you’re having writers’ block.
write sentences about things! i keep a document called “unclaimed lyrics” which is where i put any one-off lyrics that i think of that don’t fit into any of my current songs but i can maybe go back to and use in a future song. that’s another really good way to kick writers’ block.
as for actually writing, different people do it differently, but i would recommend the following:
think of something that makes you feel a lot, and write about it. anything you have strong feelings about. anything you love or hate, anything that made you euphoric or tragically depressed.
write a “thesis”. obviously this isn’t a real thesis since this is music not english class but what i mean by that is that sometimes it can be easy to just start Writing Words and totally lose the plot. at the top of wherever you’re writing your song, just write a sentence or two about what the song is actually about - what’s the point? what are you saying? for example: “this song is about how my sister is always there for me.” BAM. now whenever you’re feeling a little lost or unsure of what lyrics to write, refer to your thesis to remind you to stay on message (so to speak).
try to imitate the style of artists/lyricists you really like (for example i love ed sheeran and taylor swift and noah kahan and julia michaels - all fantastic lyricists whom i recommend). you can take rhythm, chord progressions, rhyme schemes, and ideas from any singer. do it!! do it. i stole a chord progression from a julia michaels song and then just transposed it up a half-step. steal. do it.
pick a rhyme scheme. ABAB? AABB? AABA? ABCB? the possibilities are endless but it’s good to know what kind of rhyme scheme you’re going to use so you have a little bit of framework.
rhymezone.com, thesaurus.com. these websites are your best friends. i promise it’s not cheating.
if you’ve done the melody before the chords (on your instrument of choice), figure out what chords work with it. the really awesome thing about guitar and (i assume) ukulele is that you can actually transpose the key suuuper easily with a capo, so don’t sweat whether or not the actual key is right for you.
if you’ve got a chord progression, write a melody to it! ideally with words. i guess some artists know how to write a melody and then cram words into that space, but i am not one of them. for me, it’s always easiest to know what i’m going to say before i work on how many syllables i have to say it.
wow i wrote a lot about this and i could probably go on but consider this a beginner’s guide. i do pretty much all of this stuff and i have it on semi-reliable authority that i am a good songwriter so you can trust me! and if you do write a song, let me know! good luck!!!

Your Good Omens poem was a little masterpiece. Never would I have thought you didn't write poems for a long time. I want to improve my own writing and I'm also looking for inspiration. What was the style in Heavenly Light you were shooting for or any style of poetry you like in particular? any favorite poets? Making rhyme poetry doesn't come easily for me. I often get stuck somewhere in the poem and have hard time finishing it because I can't get the rhyme to work. Any advice? strategies?
I’m glad you enjoyed it! So, I love reading poetry, I always have, but I don’t know if I’m the best one to give advice on how to write it as I rarely take the time to actually use any true methods. My poems typically end up being quatrains (four line verses) with like an AABB or ABAB rhyming scheme or sometimes like a ballad style? I have tried iambic pentameter before and it’s fun but takes more work.
Some of my favorite poets are Thomas Moore, Edgar Allen Poe, Sir Walter Scott, Tennyson, Emily Dickinson and Lord Byron. I really am more a fan of classic poetry and haven’t really read a lot of modern stuff. Poe is, I think in a lot of ways my absolute favorite poet (and one of my favorite writers in general) because his visuals and cadence is so unique and well put together.
I wish you luck with your poetry writing! ^_^

flowers
So since most people wanted me to post my poems I think aren’t so great (also, thank you for your very kind messages, they warmed by heart) so here is one! this is my first attempt at a sonnet and was a difficult exercise for me since I prefer an AABB CCDD rhyming scheme over an ABAB CDCD, so yeah ^^ Please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts! I’m very curious and eager to get better!
flowers
flowers are so alike people incredible and strong, but fragile and soft each time I look I'm surprised by the full thoughts and feelings through the air, waft
skin like petals, gentle and dewy teary eyes and filled with pollen of love in the morning like flowers dancing in a prairie wrinkling and creasing when the sun shines above
I've been in love with both of them before in the silence, their lives always echoing each flower and people fighting their war waiting to see what the world may bring
there is nothing more beautiful than all of their uniqueness thorns adorning their skin, strong like an aegis

Thank you! I'll give you some context. It is a piece about my mother who left 5 years ago, but I've had to strong for the rest of my family. My older sister who is 6 years older than me but extremely naive and my dad who lost his way a little. Mother: I was once strong and stood tall A wall of concrete that refused to fall My emotions locked away in a vault The hearts weakness was my only fault
Always :) but, thank you for trusting me with this. I-of course-don’t know you personally, but I can imagine that everything you’ve been through hasn’t been easy. it’s wonderful and inspiring to me that you’ve managed to turn pain into something so beautiful. first off — as I can see from the notifications that keep popping up on my phone next to me, you’ve put quite a lot of time and care into this, so I’ll just say this before I even give any piece of advice; poetry isn’t something that’s ever right or wrong. no matter what I or anyone else thinks of it, if you read over it and think ‘hm, this sounds good’ then it completely is and you’re the final say. I feel like my creative writing teacher possessed me as I was I typing that, but lol it’s still very true. I really like this first part, your rhyme schemes all fit really well together, and since I imagine that you already have a clear tone and places to breathe in your head, it kind of all wraps itself up in a little bow, doesn’t it? I think that the only thing I would say for this part is that it seems slightly repetitive? try going for an ABAB rhythm instead of a AABB rhythm and see if that helps loosen it a bit. though if I’m getting the wrong vibe of how this is supposed to be delivered, or that seems like too much, then don’t mind me. and maybe it’d help to change the second line to ‘my emotions forever locked away in a vault’ just to make it sound full and match the corresponding line.

BACKGROUND OF THE PIECE
The things that inspired me to write this poem was my mother and the Earth. Both of them gave us life. Hurting them is also hurting ourselves.God created them first before us. We are their children and our task is to take good care of them just like how we took good care to ourselves.
CENTRAL MESSAGE OF THE PIECE
The central meaning of my piece is all about my mother's hard work and love for us. It tells that Mothers always did their best for there children and it tells that even how many bad things you did and if everyone's turn their back at you always remeber that your mother is always there ready to catch you ang hold you tight. No one can replay the love of any mother to their children, they even sacrifices just to give you your wants and needs. In my piece it also tell's that hurting your mother is like hurting our mother earth because even you forgot to take care of the earth her, she's always there giving the oxygen you need to your daily life just like your mother even you disrespect her sometimes or forgot to take care of her she's still there taking care of you in times of your needs and sorrow. So don't forget to take care of them and give value to them because without them we are nothing, but with them we have everything.
RHYME SCHEME
The rhyme scheme that I used is "AABB-ABAB-ACBB" in the first stanza i use the coupled rhyme because I paired them. At the second stanza I used the alternate rhyme since I arranged them alternatively. And at third my last stanza I used simple 4 line rhyme.
RHYTHM
The rhythm I used is dactyl because every line's contains stressed followed by 2 unstressed.
Structure and form
My piece is contains of 12 lines and I divided it into 4 stanza.

ASYNCHRONOUS TASK NO. 6
Tumblr media
POET’S BACKGROUND IN WRITING THE PIECE
I always love tragic stories which make me cry a lot. Sad endings that took me weeks to accept the finale and finally move on. Since I was given an opportunity to showcase what I got in the field of writing I chose “Until Death Do Us Part” as a title. It’s not really based on my experience but this was the first thing that came up to my mind so I decided to just go for it. But since I’m already fed up with the weeping, I did not want it to end sad and I also don’t want my first piecee to be disastrous.
THEME AND CENTRAL MESSAGE OF YOUR PIECE
I made my piece with a "love story and happy ending" theme. It is about a couple about to marry each other but unfortunately, the groom died before their special day happens. The chance to be happy together were deprived to them. Love conquers all, the right time and the right place will be given to us where we can experience a Happy ending. It is not about whether you say vows to each other in front of the altar or not, it is about loyalty and how committed you are to your special someone. And even they are not given the chance to say each other's vows they are still together till death break them apart.
POEM ANALYSIS:
RHYME SCHEME
-ABAB, CDCD, EFEF, AAAA, AAAA, AABB
Alternate, monorhyme, and coupled rhyme scheme. My poem's rhyme scheme perfectly suits the shifts of the event in my poem in which the events change according to the characters' perceptions.
RHYTHYM
-The rhythm i used is Spondee and Iamb. In the first stanza i used Iamb and the rest is spondee.
STRUCTURE AND FORM
-24 lines divided by 6 stanzas
TONE AND VOICE
-The mood of the piece I made is something like a mixed emotion. At first, you can feel sadness and heaviness and as the poem ends, a light feeling sincerity and happiness is felt. The voice is something like a changing atmosphere. From heavy to light voice.
IMAGERY
- I used Auditory, olfactory, visual, and tactile in my piece to express the sensations of the poem. These sensory images enable the reader to feel the impressions I want them to experience go relate themselves while reading my piece.
FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
"Heaven has granted my desires!" apostrophe
Euphemism- “body with a cold feet”
Hyperbole- “like I conquered the universe”
Hyperbole- “with a dagger in my heart”
