This comic takes a while to draw and I appreciate every comment. <3 :_; This chapter was originally going to be much shorter, but then I realized this would be Bilbo’s last moments in Bag End for a very very long time. I thought it was important to put a lot of detail into the backgrounds, to make it clearer what is tempting Bilbo to stay and what he will lose and feel nostalgic for if he leaves. Anyway, people who recognize what the little decorative horses are will win my respect. Some of you probably noticed this, but the white borders of this chapter are a reference to the line “maps made in the Shire showed mostly white spaces beyond its borders.” This line is from FOTR and referenced in chapter 15 of this comic. Another note! In the original book, Bilbo is pressured into leaving by Gandalf; in the movies/fanon, he makes the decision alone. I mixed the two! In a previous chapter, Gandalf gave Bilbo a deadline ("meet us here by eleven"), but Bilbo ultimately makes the decision alone. The next chapter, “Over the Hill and Across the Water,” will arrive….eventually!

i just keep thinking about how unnecessary aaron's death was. he did not have to do allat to kill zane. no one asked him to. literally right before he left, aph said that zane was extremely important for the future of ru'aun so that they'd know exactly why tu'la was literally invading o'khasis for information they were practically not even sure was there in the high priest's chambers. just what did they need from zane that required wasting so much effort and supplies and sailing across the seas to occupy his land for days??

not to mention the fucking unplanned pregnancy. thinking about it always pisses me off so much.

what was the point in killing aaron off jess? im so confused because there really wasn't a point to it (if there is, i'd love to hear why /srs). i understand risking his life and getting garroth back because you could see how hard he tried to get aphmau not to throw her life away. before he could lose his new found family, he decided to leave instead. but he fucking survived all the way up to the part where he gets back to the overworld with garroth!!!!! all of these thoughts running through my head rn are leaving such a bad taste in my mouth. euhg. he could have survived. why in the world was it such a good idea to leave aphmau (who was already in such a stressed state, not only because of garroth but because of her lord duties and potential war againsst ru'aun) and their-- THEIR daughter behind?????????????????// grrrrr what was the logic behind this!!! i love angst but aaron's death seriously made nada sense. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT COULD HAVE BEEEEENNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

god and the part where he got over his wife and everything wayy too quick. okay, saying got over can be an exaggeration but seriously i would've loved to see more growth from aaron alongside all of the other characters. he was growing but the preset of him falling in love with aphmau was terribly executed imo. i wanted to see him grieve horribly and guilt over the fact that he was pining for this girl. guilt over the fact that he'd already practically moved on by adopting a baby girl along with aphmau and him slowly understanding that it's fine for him to move on from the past and that it shouldnt tie him down forever or whateevr idk i wanted to see something along the lines of that!!!!! i want a rewrite where my boy doesnt die and actively participates in his new found family's life and helps aph w his experience as a lord and you see beyond the snappy cold character that he was after making revenge his whole life goal before he warmed up to phoenix drop and the people there. just uisegusgiygehuhge i love aaron so much he was done so wrong i am so mad someoen send me aaron/aarmau headcanons to help me cope with the effect of jesson on mcd ill love you. forever.

People shuffle back and forth, keeping a clear distance from the box he’s sitting on. Rain keeps dripping from his hair. It’s not annoying enough for him to do anything about it. 

He sniffles, staring at the muddy footprints trekked inside the operations warehouse. The sound in his ears is far away, leaving everything else fuzzy and tinted. It’s like a rustling wind, coming and going, fading whenever he concentrates on it.

The box creaks as he hunches forward. He presses his hands over his ears and waits. When he shifts, it’s there for a moment, drifting under that whooshing, seashell sound.

It’s a warning. That’s how he felt, instinctively, the first time he heard it.
