Hibara put his finger under his chin in thought. "I can't see it. Show me again?"

You gave him a droll look and held out your hands in front of you. Pretending that you were Geto and the empty space between your hands was your own head.

You puckered your lips before opening them and sticking your tongue out.

Haibara snorted.

You got embarrassed and dropped your hands and put your tongue back into your mouth. "Then he started wiggling it and I got scared.."

Haibara fought back his laugh. It was obvious Geto liked you but he seemed to have forgotten that you had no experience with the opposite sex. It was cute--- but Hibara also knew a secret that you didn't--

He sighed. "I still can't tell you what it means. You're not showing me right."

You let out an exaggerated groan. "I'm trying my best here. It's not like I have the balls to go ask him to help me recreate it."

Haibara scoffed and began to think again. "We need to find you a dummy or something--"

Soft footsteps rounded the corner. "Y/n. The vending machine is out of that melon soda you like so I just got you a Coke.-- Why are you looking at me like that Hibara?"

Perfect. Just the dummy he was thinking of.

Nanami wore a bored look as he walked up to the both of you and handed you both your drinks.

Haibara wore the biggest smile. "Show me how Geto kissed you on Nanami!"

You gasped while Nanami choked on the soda he had just started drinking.

(Nanami) "I beg your pardon?--- wait, Geto kissed you?! When?"

(Hibara) "Laid a nasty one on her last night.--"

Why didn't you think of that! Nanami was perfect!

You held your hands together in a begging motion while Nanami looked at you with pink cheeks. "Please Nanami. May I violate your mouth? It's for science!"

Nanami felt like the air was getting thicker. But he kept his cool. "Absolutely not. Your thirst is showing Y/n. Drink your coke."

Ouch.

But Hibara wasn't giving up. He knew Nanami was fighting himself right now.

"Come on Nanami. It's not like you're getting girls to pucker up anytime soon... Especially with that hair."

You turned away to laugh under your breath while an irk mark appeared on Nanami's forehead.

"That's rude. Not only you judging me about my hair but the fact that you guys think I'm a whore."

You choked on air while Hibara's eyes went wide.

You caught your breath. "We don't think you're a whore! I asked you because I know for a fact you aren't one. I know where you've been and who you've been with.. Here with us! And the only dicking down you do is on some bread."

Nanami didn't know how to feel about that. And he did love bread.. just not that way?

He crossed his arms. Might as well go with it.. His poor dumb asses. "If you're using me as some lab rat. I at least need to be wined and dined first. What kind of girl do you think I am?"

Hibara laughed. "Clueless. You're pretending to be Y/n remember?"

You nodded but then got it a few seconds later. "Hey! I'm not-- okay maybe a little.." Your shoulders dropped. "Okay. I'm dumb..."

Nanami rolled his eyes. "You're not dumb. You were just deprived of simple pleasures and locked in a cage for who knows how long. And right now, I think Geto is just taking advantage of you. Since he and Yaga were the ones to find you and he thinks---- Did he even ask to kiss you?"

You couldn't really remember if he did?

Again Hibara knew. "Shoko said, that Gojo said, it was like in the movies when they just run to one another and start eating each other's face. I think Geto was just happy his girlfriend was back."

Your cheeks began to sting. "Girlfriend?! I'm not--"

Hibara cut you off. "Yeah. Okay. But I mean like-- How do I say this without being an ass." He scratched his head. "You sort of lead him on? Gosh that sounds awful.. I know you don't mean it but.--"

Nanami sighed. "He means! You and Geto hang around a lot... Touch a lot. He obviously likes you and probably thinks you like him too. "

You shrugged. "I do like him, I like everyone? And we touch a lot cause we have to? We both summon curses so he's helping me train. And helping me with hand to hand combat on the side since I suck at it and Gojo's just mean to me when we're supposed to spend time together.."

They both hummed.

(Hibara) "It's a different kind of like. The way you like him is different from the way you like us right?"

(Y/n) "I don't get it.."

Nanami felt a small pinch of jealousy in his chest. Geto wasn't a bad guy but-- He was so much older than you-- or should he say more experience? He was just trying to find every excuse to make him seem not right for you.

Nanami scoffed. "How do you feel when you're around him?"

You thought for a second. "Safe?"

Nanami almost laughed. "Even when Gojo's bullying you and Geto just stands there?"

Damn, it got quiet... Even the birds outside stopped singing.

Hibara cleared his throat.

But you spoke before he could. "I don't think he has a choice on that. The Gojo Clan basically bought me for that jerk so he can do with me as he pleases.. Even if he wanted to, Geto can't do anything about it."

Nanami shrugged. "Or he's just an asshole like his best friend Gojo. He wants to pluck the pretty flower instead of letting her flourish in a garden."

Hibara tilted his head. "Damn that's a good one."

You on the other hand were still lost? The last thing on your mind was falling in love anyways. Would it be nice to feel it one day? Hell yeah! But again, you belonged to the Gojo Clan, promised to be Satoru's wife one day. And you'd never love him the way you read about love or watched it in a movie..

Nanami just wanted to change the subject. He doesn't know why he's being jealous. Even if he did have a crush on you, that didn't mean you felt the same. And if you ever did-- Y'know, like him or Geto.. You couldn't be with either of them for long anyways. Once you turned 20 you and Gojo would be married..

He sighed. This was as good as it was going to get. "So are you going to kiss me or not?"

You looked up. "Oh right! I almost forgot what we were originally talking about."

Nanami leaned in and closed his eyes-- but Hibara's hand stopped his face from going any closer to yours.

Nanami opened his eyes. "Disgusting."

(Hibara) "Rude. My hands are clean!"

You and Nanami shared a look.. (Sure they were.)

Hibara was hurt.. "Anyway! We need to set the scene! Y/n didn't just lean in a pucker up."

He stood up. "Okay. Nanami picture this! You were on your very first mission and just got done being man handled by a first grade curse! Then BAM! You were stolen and brought back!... I don't want to go through the whole story.."

He then turned to you. "Y/n. Imagine you're one of Jujutsu Techs attractive Playboys and the girl you probably love has finally returned after the school was turned upside down from her being missing!-- You just got done blaming yourself and literally losing your shit."

You tried to cut him off. You didn't hear about that last part. "He did?"

Hibara waved you off. He'd tell you about it later. "Not important right now... Action!"

Nanami rolled his eyes but this time he sat still. You weren't the one to make the first move anyways and he was pretending to be you... Right?

"Um okay." You felt nervous all of a sudden. You shouldn't be! It was just Nanami-- He and Hibara were your best friends..

(Hibara) "Come on Geto. Get on with it."

You scooted closer to Nanami and grabbed his head. A lot softer than Geto originally did to yours but--- Nanami's hair was really soft.

His face was warm due to his blush. He was really handsome up close... Even with his emo screamo haircut.

The closer you got the faster your heart raced. Was this normal?

Nanami closed his eyes and you copied the second your lips brushed against his. Again it wasn't the same way Geto kissed you, this was much softer.

Nanami had this surge of bravery and lifted his hand to hold your cheek. Slowly moving to the back of your neck to deepen the kiss.

(Hibara) "Do you guys need to breathe yet?"

Neither of you hear him..

Your brain was short circuiting and you completely forgot what to do. What did Geto do next?

Your tongue touched his bottom lip and Nanami hesitantly let you in. But this is where you didn't know what to do..

So Nanami took over. Slowly swirling his tongue around yours. He's read about kissing like this in books so he understood it a little more than you did.

He turned to smile at his upperclassmen. "Sorry Geto. But I'm on my way to go find her now. Pretty sure she's with Nanami in the rec area."

Geto stood there while Hibara looked at the bag in his hand. "Did you bring stuff back from your mission? How was it?"

Geto gave off a smile. "It was fine. Over and done with pretty quickly." He sort of swayed on his feet. "I brought her some stuff she likes back-- Y'know.. As an apology for what happened the other day.-- Did she mention anything about being angry with me or?"

Oh Hibara loved drama. He pretended to think. "Hm? Not that I know of.. But again she's been with Nanami a lot so maybe ask him?"

Geto nodded."Should we go find them then? I think I need to explain myself."

Hi since Gojo's arc doesnt feel finished and underwhelming do you have any theories on Gojo bouncing back in a new way or in any form since he was smiling when Sukuna praised him even after he got bisected and also from that whole North South talk in the afterlife.Im kind of doubtful as Gojo said that he doesn't have any regrets but he should go in either direction and the plane is waiting to depart.

I actually have no idea what Gege could be thinking and that terrifies me to no end.

I love the idea of Gojo getting another enlightening just like with Toji, when he became "the strongest one alone" and that talk with North and South could very well be in his own mind, not afterlife. (Why I think that everything is happening in his mind is because you can see Tojo's silluete behing Riko in the "afterlife").

He reverted back to his teenage self? Why? Is this because that's when he lost everyone? Obviously Riko and Haibara died when they were teens, but he also lost Nanami after Haibara's death, and he lost Geto after Riko's death (people don't have to die for you to lose them), only one who seems to be the same is Yaga (and Toji's silluete (what's up with that, anyway?)). Is this because of his sentiment? Was this because he had to make a choice, got enlightened, to become a new human when he was teen?

I actually have no idea.

Also him "having fun" and feeling "sorry" for Sukuna is just bullshit, end of story. Who the fuck is this man, cuz I don't know him!

This selfishnes of his strangelly seems like exactly how he was when he was a teen, unlike Geto, he didn't give a fuck about protecting non-sorcerers at that time. It was only after Riko's death that he seemed to value people and their lives.

Gege wants to say that Sstoru doing that 0.2 second Unlimited Void in Shibuya Arc, specifically for non-sorcerers to not become vegitables and brain dead, meant absulutely nothing cuz in Haibara's words "you never cared about keeping sorcery going, or protecting people" <— what the fuck is this???

Satoru wanted his students to surpass him, he wanted to kill Higher Ups for killing Yuuji, for calling for Yuuta and Yuuji's executions and now he never gave a fuck about these children?? His almost son, Megumi? Who he raised for 10 years?

What is this whole chapter, a fever dream?

Also what is this Nanami's "Curses can bring people back to life. The way sorcery can". This two sentence seems out of contest, cuz what follows is exactly that south and north talk — Go north = become new person, go south =stay the same — which is directly followed by Satoru calling out of Yaga about how Yaga thought no sorcerer died without regrets, implying that he himself died with no regrets, so why show the plane then? Why is it departing if everything is decided, okay, sunshine and rainbows? Where is that plane departing, north or south? Why is Gojo hoping that this is not a dream?

(Also Gege drawing Toji in every possible panel is just ridiculous. Why would Toji even be near Satoru and his people?)

I kinda believe that he could awaken again, but would this awaking go? Cuz if he gets awaken he HAS to get even stronger!! Many people seem to hang up on Geto's question "Are you the strongest because you are Gojo Satoru or are you Gojo Satoru cuz you are the strongest?" Which basically means, does your strenght define who you are as a person? (people actually want him to be nerfed!)

To answer that question, yes! Gojo Satoru and the strongest are the same thing and this is why: he was born a Gojo, which means he got both Six Eyes and Infinity in like the last 400 years. There has been Gojos who got both powers at the same time but where they the strongest tho? If they were, someone would have mentioned that! The fact that he is SATORU is what makes him the strongest, his way to think, to adapt, to learn, to push himself to the point where he could use Red, Blue, Purple in the instant, where he could make out a difference between subjects for his infinity to react on instinctual level...

Why do people think that has even been a problem to Satoru? Just because he could never get a good fight because he was strongest? That's why he feels "sorry for Sukuna because he also knows what being strongest is?" — I don't know, does Sukuna seem to have existential crisis on how strong he is? Sukuna praised Jogo for his powers! Jogo, who Gojo dominated in every battle! That guy knows he is strong, the king of curses, and he went and got even stronger ON HIS OWN! HE SPECIFICALLY WENT AND GOT MEGUMI'S BODY AND HIS ABILITIES. Where does he seem to feel sorry for himself?

Why should Gojo Satoru lose his abilities to become Gojo Satoru, I seriously don't get it.

And at the end of the manga Kashimo is "dashing towards near-certain death". How lovely 🤷‍♀️

P.S. Madara cut Tsunade down in half and she attached her lower part body to her upper one (she couldn't regrow the lost limbs tho, unlike Gojo (she made Naruto the new arm from Hashirama's cells)) — is Gege telling me, Gojo "the prodigy who can master absulutely anything if he tries" Satoru can't heal himself???

If Hakari can have his RCT running outside of his body for like 5 minutes or whatever and is practically immortal, doesn't that imply that he CAN heal EVERY possible demage to himself, including getting cut in half?

And they're so handsy with you too, like they own you, and it makes Nanami so mad

Gojo won't hesitate to slip his arms around your waist and hug you from behind. Geto often lays his head on your lap and lets you play with his hair while he closes his eyes and has this calm smile on his face. Hell, even Soko can be found squishing your cheeks and cooing about how soft and plump they are

He's never felt this way about anyone before

He wants nothing more then to push his upperclassmen aside and take you in his arms and hold you the way they do

He'd do anything to have you smile at him the way that you smile at those three and Haibara

He's a mess, always fuming when Gojo pops into the common room where you are and invites you to lunch or just drags you off somewhere else

He hates Gojo the most bc he spends the most time with you

Gojo is just so casual about hugging you and holding your hand and pinching your cheeks and squishy your upper arms and it just makes Nanami so MAD

One day he overhears your conversation

"What do you mean you've never been picked up??"

He's so furious with Gojo, but his stomach is fluttering when he sees how excited you are and when he sees your thighs squished against Gojo's arms-

He makes eye contact with Gojo, blushes and then runs off like he wasn't just watching his senpai practically flirt with you

He sees red when Gojo blows a raspberry on your cheek one day, practically kissing you as he blew against your skin and made you giggle so sweetly that Nanami could've died and gone to heaven

He's never wanted to punch somebody more in his entire life

He becomes even angrier when Gojo confronts him about it

"Hey Nanamin! How's it going?"

He won't respond, too angry to speak

"Ahh, are you mad about somethin? Is it because Y/N won't hang out with you?"

His blush makes Gojo laugh, and Nanami just gets angrier

"I have to go-"

"Waitwaitwait, hold on, I didn't come here to piss ya off!" His arm drapes over Nanami's shoulder and he leans in close. "The year 2 students are going on a trip to the beach tomorrow, and we were gonna invite the year 1 students too!"

"I'm not interested-"

"Haibara and Y/N already said they would go," Nanami freezes, body going stiff, "and Y/N's swimsuit is pretty cute..."

There's a long pause between the two.

"...fine."

"Alright! We leave at 8am!"

The beach is beautiful and Nanami is happy to be there, but he can't enjoy himself, not when you're splashing around in the water in the most adorable bathing suit he's ever seen

But, of course, you're splashing around with Gojo and laughing and playing in the water without a care in the world and he is seething under his beach umbrella

He wishes he had the guts to go out and play around with you, but you're showing so much skin and he can barely look at you let alone get close enough to you to splash you with water

Geto sees him sulking and goes to check on him

"Something wrong, Nanami?"

Nanami shrugs, stealing a glance at you, flushing at your bright smile before burying his face into his knees

Geto is a smart boy and catches on quick

"Ah... you've got a crush on them, right?"

"No, I don't."

C'mon Nanami we know you like Y/N just admit it and ask them out

"I see..." He sits down next to Nanami. "Do you want to talk about it?"

He stays under his beach umbrella all day reading a book, stealing glances of you and blushing before going back to reading

It's a v frustrating day and it doesn't get better when Gojo suggests going out for ice cream

He drags everyone along to a local ice cream shop

You get a vanilla cone and lo and behold just a few minutes later it drips down onto your chest and you wipe it off casually and lick it off your fingers and Nanami turns so red that ppl get concerned

"Nanami-kun, are you okay?"

"I-I'm fine."

"Are you sure? Did you get a sunburn?"

"N-no, it's nothing, I'm fine, just a little hot."

Gojo knows exactly whats up and decides to push Nanami's buttons more

"You're so messy, Y/N! You gotta be more careful~"

AND THEN GOJO WIPES UP A LITTLE BIT OF ICE CREAM LEFT ON YOUR CHEST AND LICKS IT OFF HIS FINGERS AND NANAMI WANTS TO FUCKING SCREAM

Nanami goes back to his room at the end of the day completely devastated, just so frustrated and upset and angry and distraught

He literally screams into his pillows and kicks at his bed like a fucking toddler

He just! Doesn't know how to handle his emotions! He's literally never felt this way before and it makes him so angry and he's so lost

What he does know is that he needs to grow some balls and tell you how he feels already because he can't stand seeing Gojo flirt with you 24/7

Re-reading the Shibuya arc and Nanami really spent the majority of his time running around the station and making sure the kids were alright

1. Nanami knows that Gojo being sealed is bad news, but he’s still hesistant about passing along tasks to Yuji and Megumi, even if it’s an emergency. Which is why he trusts Ino to take care of them. It’s evident that Nanami still prioritizes their lives first.

2. The first panel in this page is such a tiny gesture but just shows how caring Nanami is. He saves Nobara and Nitta after fighting with Shigemo and proceeds to kneel down as he talks to them. He sees them eye-to-eye as they talk about the current situation, but he also makes sure they’re okay amid all this chaos. Of course, he also emphasizes that they need to wait for rescue, that the next tasks are for Grade-1 sorcerers and above (and him turning down Nobara’s offer to help also shows how he believes teenagers should not be responsible for dealing with this mess).

3. When Nanami, Maki, and Naobito are in Dagon’s domain and the Death Swarm is summoned (wicked fast shikigami that eat their enemies), his thoughts first go to Maki and ensuring that she knows how to protect herself from them.

Nanami can’t even finish his advice here, as the shikigami attack him first. It really speaks to his character that he thinks of Maki first, even as the Death Swarm are coming towards him, too. If he wasn’t instantly targeted by them I wouldn’t be surprised if he planned on working with Maki to hold them off (he’d probably ensure that he can buy time for Maki and prevent her from getting hurt before he does). Meanwhile, Maki’s father (Naobito) doesn’t even work with Maki to fight against the Death Swarm.

4. Then there’s this moment, in which a heavily injured Nanami (who now only has one eye!!) saves Megumi from getting eaten by the shikigami. And as soon as he does, Nanami immediately asks where/how/what are Ino and Itadori doing, as he’s probably worried to not see the two alongside Megumi.

Nanami’s words from chapter 19 about prioritizing a child’s life over his own are put into action in this scene, as he assures Megumi that he will protect him. Sure, he also needs to protect Megumi because they need to find a way to escape, but Nanami is willing to get hurt further (and even put his life on the line) if that means Megumi and Maki can escape.

6. And chapter 120...

Akutami does a great job in showing the differences in Mei’s and Nanami’s actions in Shibuya. Mei, instead of helping the other sorcerers, quickly heads to Malaysia when she realizes it’s not worth fighting Getwo, especially when Tokyo will become a wasteland shortly after. Nanami knows how dire this situation is. He’s even talked with Ino about the consequences if such an event were to occur and realizes the effect it’ll not only have on the jujutsu world, but on civilians. He wishes he could be in Malaysia, too. But ever the selfless shaman (his job is to protect civilians and others from curses, after all), and despite literally half of his body being charred, he thinks about finding Megumi, Maki, and Naobito. To make sure they’re safe and to protect them, if need be. (And you know he’s also wondering how Itadori and Ino are doing, too.)

7. Which is why he continues fighting and encounters Mahito for the final time. Being extremely injured and tired, he knows he’s going to die. But even in his last moments, he’s still thinking about others!! He even imagines himself talking to Haibara, his friend and the one kid he couldn’t save, during this moment. He doesn’t want to curse Itadori, to increase the burden the young teen already suffers from. And if Mahito were to attack Yuji before he finished off Nanami, I just know Nanami would not permit that and would have sacrificed himself to protect Yuji.

Unfortunately, all of the tragedy that occurs in the Shibuya arc ultimately ends the youthful innocence that Nanami and Gojo have been trying so hard to retain among their students. But from start to finish, Nanami’s mind is on protecting the young sorcerers, no matter the cost. Even if the price is his life.

anon this is such a great question! i'm sorry it took so long to answer, but i kept going back and forth about certain parts or wanting to add more or just...trying to be coherent.

it's a very hard one too, considering we know basically nothing about his childhood. we don't even know that much about his teen years aside from his moments in gojo's past arc, which are quite limited. iirc haibara actually has more appearances in that arc than nanami does.

this is contingent on the idea that young children do not see curses until around the time innate techniques would show up (iirc that's around 4-6 in canon). i'm also working under the assumption that nanami doesn't have any windows in his family and is the only one who can see curses.

the rest is going under a cut bc as usual i can't shut up. it's a little piecemeal because i'm trying to cover a lot, but hopefully it gels decently!

overall, i would make the choice for nanami to have a "typical" childhood until around the time he starts to see curses. that for the first years of his life, he's just a regular kid—nothing even to slightly indicate the manifestation of his innate technique.

it'd be an interesting way for the jujutsu world to start whittling away at him early on. the impact of seeing curses for the first time with no context or support around what he's seeing would be shattering.

because he's quieter, people tend to think he's not as interested in outdoor activities, but he's constantly in motion (again, sturdy kid) during his earlier toddler years. put him down and he's gone. still, he usually doesn't stray too far from his parents. likes to have a hand on one of them when they're out in public and/or in a crowded area, whether it's his hand knotted into his mother's sleeve or his dad's pant leg.

i like to think that nanami was actually a bit of a late bloomer in terms of his innate technique & seeing curses (i hc this for getou as well and sometimes toy with the idea that those from non-sorcerer families tend to manifest their innate techniques later than lineage ones, perhaps bc lineage sorcerers are around significant cursed energy for their entire lives). meaning that of the 4-6 age range, he'd be close to six or maybe even almost seven.

this is already getting...long so i'm going to just do the basics of the reaction to him seeing curses—likely at first they think it's an 'imaginary friend' but as nanami becomes progressively more frightened they do try to intervene. unfortunately, nothing works (because they're curses).

i'd like to think that nanami gets picked up by the jujutsu world relatively quickly (meaning within six months to a year), but it's so unclear in the manga as to how they locate scouted/non-lineage sorcerers. it could easily be a lot longer.

essentially, if it were up to me, nanami would have a good childhood that's derailed by the jujutsu world. it's an early introduction to the trauma of the jujutsu world, and it emphasizes the loneliness that is inherent to the jjk storyline. (i also think it ties in nicely with his emphasis on preserving itadori's youth, even though much of that can be traced back to haibara's death as well.)

to sum up: nanami's childhood is good until it isn't. jujutsu sorcery is a curse all its own.
