LOVE AND DESTINY

I was falling from somewhere high. I closed my eyes as I fell, accepting the end of my life when suddenly two strong hands caught me. I opened my eyes to see where I landed. I landed in the arms of a man. The man was dressed in a strange costume which was alien to me. However, the man was extremely good-looking. I noticed that he had narrow eyes that were as sharp as that of an eagle. The man had a fair complexion, well-built, and was tall with long raven black hair that was silky smooth. His lips had a pink hue to them and when he smiled, I noticed that he had dimples on both sides of his smooth and clean-shaven cheeks. As I tried to observe the man further, I was interrupted by a faint voice that seemed to address me. “Your Highness! Please wake up,” the voice called out. I opened my eyes and looked around. I was lying on my bed, surrounded by the maids-in-waiting. “It was a dream!” I thought to myself in frustration. I rose from my bed to allow my maids to clean my body and thereafter began grooming me.

I then headed to the dining hall to greet my parents. My name was Chandini Aashiyana Singh. My father was Rudresh Eshwardutt Singh, the King of Rajasthan, and my mother, Yagnapriya Idhitri Singh was the Queen of Rajasthan at that time. My father had two wives. I was born to his second wife. My father’s first wife was killed during an attack against the Rajasthan port by the British army. It was only upon the death of his first wife that the King married my mother. As such, there was no competition as to who would be the heir to the throne since I was the only heir that Rajasthan had. In the dining hall, I noticed my parents were seated at the far end of the table. The King and Queen were awaiting my arrival to have breakfast together. “Forgive me for the delay that I have caused in arriving at the dining hall, Father, and Mother,” I apologized upon my arrival. Both my parents smiled at the sight of me. “Come and be seated, my dear,” the King urged me. I obliged and sat next to my mother. We enjoyed our breakfast and thereafter moved to the guest hall.

As I prepared the items to begin painting, the King spoke up, “Chandini, I have received an official invitation to attend a banquet at the Palace of the Emperor of China and thereafter to discuss the export of our food to China. Would you like to accompany me to China?” I rose from my chair and sat beside my father. I said with calm composure, “Yes, Father, I would be honored to accompany you to the banquet. You know how much I would enjoy learning about the culture of other kingdoms.” The King looked at the Queen and smiled. The Queen had wanted the King to take me along with him to the Palace in China as a way to gain knowledge and experience of life.

We sailed on a large ship for a week before we reached the port in China. Upon our arrival, we were escorted to the Palace of the Emperor of China by the assistants who were assigned to escort us safely to the Palace. Along the way to the Palace, I noticed all the carvings on the buildings that were supposedly owned by the noblemen. We arrived at the entrance of the Palace. We were welcomed by the Emperor himself. The Emperor said in a pleasant tone, “Welcome to my country. I am Zhang Li-Jun. I am pleased to welcome Your Highness, to my residence.” Father then introduced himself, “Thank you, My Lord. I am Rudresh Eshwardutt Singh, the King of Rajasthan and this is my only daughter, Chandini Aashiyana Singh, the Princess of Rajasthan.” Upon my introduction, I bowed in front of the Emperor to show my respect to him. The Emperor was a handsome-looking man. He was dressed in the attire that suited his position in the Palace. The Emperor caught me looking at him. I blushed like the heart of a flame that the Emperor smiled. The Emperor then said, “I think that you must be tired from traveling.  I shall have the assistants and maids escort you to your respective accommodations.” My father and I were then escorted to our respective accommodations within the Palace.

The moment I laid my eyes on the bed in my room, exhaustion enveloped me and my legs directed my body to the bed. I slept soundly that day. I was awakened by the maid-in-waiting that was assigned to me. The maid-in-waiting said, “Your Highness, your presence is required at the dining hall. The Emperor and the King are awaiting your arrival. I shall assist you in grooming, if I may.” “Yes, please help me out of my clothing. I will bathe on my own. I will only require your assistance in grooming my hair.” The maid-in-waiting then said, “Very well, Your Highness. I will wait outside. Please call me when you are ready for grooming.” With that, the maid-in-waiting excused herself from the room. I had a quick bath and then dressed in my Red and pink half saree. “Is anyone there? Please come in now,” I called out to the maid-in-waiting. The maid-in-waiting braided my hair according to my preference.

Thereafter, I was escorted by the male assistants to the dining hall. On the way to the dining hall, the assistants greeted a man who was dressed in traditional Chinese costume. I observed the man closely. To my dismay, the man resembled the man in my dream. I was shocked to the core that I breathed in deeply. At the sound of my breath, the man turned his attention toward me. One of the assistants then spoke out, “This is Her Highness, Princess Chandini Aashiyana Singh from Rajasthan.” The man bowed in front of me after the introduction. I nodded my head and continued to pave my way to the dining hall. I was greeted by my father once I showed respect towards the Emperor. I was seated beside my father. Then, the Emperor said, “Thank you for coming all the way to our country upon my invitation. I hope that we can form an alliance in business and friendship from your trip this time.” My father replied, “I must say that I am grateful for this invitation, Your Highness. I am truly honored to be able to form an alliance with such a rich and formidable country.” The Emperor was pleased with my father’s compliments. The Emperor then turned towards me and said, “I hope that you had a good rest just now, My lady.” I replied, still feeling shy, “Yes, I did and I thank you for the kind hospitality, Your Highness.” The Emperor’s eyes were focused on my costume.

The Emperor then asked, “If I may, what is the name of your costume, My lady?” “This costume is referred to as half-saree. This costume is usually worn by the young unmarried ladies in my country, Your Highness,” I replied the Emperor. The Emperor then asked, “What is the material used to sew this costume, My Lady?” I felt more comfortable and relaxed towards the Emperor as I said, “The materials vary from silk to cotton, Your Highness. The costume that I am wearing is made from silk.” The Emperor nodded while listening intently to my replies. The Emperor then asked my father, “Is it possible for the silks from India to be exported to China, Your Highness?” My father then replied, “Yes, Your Highness it is. There are different types of silks in our country. I will arrange for the best silks to be exported to China once our alliance is formalized.” The Emperor was pleased. With that said, the food was served. We dined for a long time since there were various cuisines served that night.

Once the banquet was over, the Emperor invited my father and me to the guest hall where dance performances were arranged for us. I enjoyed the dance from various states in China very much. At one point, my attention turned to the Emperor, and caught the Emperor looking at me. Once again, I blushed and smiled shyly. It was at that moment that I saw the strange man that appeared in my dream. He stood behind the Emperor. I then turned to my father and said, “Father, remember I told you about my dream a week ago?” My father nodded in agreement. I further added, “He is standing behind the Emperor now.” My father slowly turned in the direction where the Emperor was seated. My father observed the man who stood behind the Emperor and then asked the Emperor, “Your Highness, I would like to ask about the gentleman who is standing behind you.”  The Emperor smiled and replied, “This is my most trusted man. He is my personal bodyguard, advisor, and friend that I usually confide in. His name is Yu Sifeng.” The strange man bowed in front of my father when the introduction was over. My father nodded to the man and said to him, “I am the King of Rajasthan and this is my only daughter, Princess Chandini Aashiyana Singh.” The strange man then bowed in front of me and I nodded at him in response. The strange man then returned to his place behind the Emperor once the introduction was over.

The dance performances lasted until midnight. Thereafter, father and I bid the Emperor goodnight. Before departing, the Emperor approached me and said, “My Lady, I noticed that you have taken an interest in my personal bodyguard. Am I missing something here?” I felt that the banquet was meant to break the ice between the rulers of the two nations. As such, I opened up to the Emperor about the strange man. I said, “The man appeared in my dream before I arrived here, Your Highness. I did not know why I had that dream but now that I have witnessed his existence, I feel that it is a sign somehow.” The Emperor raised his eyebrows upon hearing my response. He said, “I must agree with you, My Lady. We take dreams very seriously here. Now that I am aware of this, I will assign him to you so that you can get to know him better. Maybe you will better understand the purpose of your dream this way. Don’t you agree?” I was pleased with the Emperor’s suggestion that I said happily, “Thank you so much for your kindness, Your Highness. It would certainly help me to learn more about the dream.” The Emperor smiled and then whispered into the ears of the strange man who was standing close to the Emperor the whole time. The strange man bowed in front of the Emperor and instantly stood beside me.

I did not expect swift action from the Emperor and the strange man. I bid the Emperor farewell and made my way to my accommodation. As I walked, I could not help but glance at the strange man. I then asked the man, “My Lord, have you ever traveled to foreign nations before?” The strange man replied, “Your Highness, I would humbly request that I be addressed by my name. I am Yu Sifeng. Please address me by my name, Your Highness.” “The man is extraordinarily humble and polite,” I thought to myself. My first impression of him was positive that I had a good feeling about him. The man further said, “In response to your question earlier, no, Your Highness. I have never stepped outside of this nation. I was born and raised here until I began providing my humble service for the Emperor.” “Ah, I see,” was my reply to his response. I felt like something was about to happen while Father and I were there.

The next day, the Emperor announced that there will be a hunting event that will take place. Father and I were escorted by some assistants, maids-in-waiting and Yu Sifeng. We traveled in a carriage. The whole journey was refreshing since we began the journey early in the morning. I was sewing a small pouch while traveling while Father was reading his novel. The Emperor traveled on a different carriage with his concubine. A doubt crossed my mind while I worked on my pouch. I asked my Father, “Father, how old do you think the Emperor is?” My Father looked up from his novel and thought for a second before replying, “I remember the Emperor telling me that he has just turned 30 two weeks ago.” I nodded at his response before asking, “Why isn’t the Emperor married then, Father?” Father smiled and said, “Well, according to the Emperor, marriages in royal families are usually politically connected. However, the Emperor wishes to marry for love instead of growing his political connection in his court.” I smiled at Father’s response. “The Emperor is a romantic man, after all,” I thought with a smile.

We reached the Hunting ground after an hour of travel. Father and I were escorted to our camp. Inside the camp, there was a special place allocated for me to freshen up. The Imperial family was indeed civilized in the aspect of respecting privacy. After leaving our things in the camp, Father and I were escorted to the place where the Emperor and the guests were to be seated while the other officials went out to hunt. The Emperor greeted us and then urged us to join his chess game while waiting for the officials to return after hunting. While Father and the Emperor played chess, I continued my sewing. The Emperor glanced at me from time to time. Father observed the Emperor’s actions and observed mine as well. I blushed each time my eyes met the Emperor’s eyes. I did not feel any attraction towards the Emperor, yet my overwhelming shyness was causing me to blush repeatedly. Father observed the whole scene without questioning me about it.

The officials returned to the Hunting Ground once the alarm was sounded. Each official was rewarded according to the animal that each of them had hunted. Once the hunting session was over, the officials were asked to rest whilst Father and I were escorted back to our camp to rest and prepare for the evening banquet. I was bored being in the camp that I decided to take a walk out of the hunting ground. I enjoyed the scenery as I walked, not realizing that I had strayed away from the hunting ground. I reached a small cliff overlooking the hunting ground. As I inhaled the fresh air, I felt a hard push from behind that caused me to fall off the small cliff. “AAAAAAARGH!” I shouted in shock. I felt like I was flying and I closed my eyes while feeling my body fall. I was caught by two hands. I opened my eyes to look at my savior. It was Yu Sifeng. My dream became a reality at that moment. I saw Father running towards me. The Emperor had also rushed to my side. “Oh my God! Are you alright, my dear?” Father asked frantically, obviously alarmed and shocked by the incident.

“Yes, I am, Father, thanks to my savior here,” I replied. I was still in shock when the Emperor approached me with much concern in his eyes. “I am very sorry that this has happened to you, My Princess,” the Emperor apologized. “It is not your fault, Your Highness. It was mine. I should not have gone far from the hunting ground,” I said to the Emperor who was clearly shaken by the incident. “Guards! I want you to make a thorough inspection as to the location of the perpetrator. Go!” The Emperor directed his guards. Father asked Yu Sifeng to carry me to our camp. A physician was asked to examine me for any injuries. I did not suffer any serious injuries but I was terribly shaken by the whole incident. The physician prescribed a medicine to calm my nerves. I fell into a deep sleep after drinking the medicine. When I woke up, I noticed the Emperor sitting on the chair beside my bed watching me intently. The Emperor quickly approached me the moment my eyes were open. “How do you feel now, My Lady?” The Emperor asked. I rose from the bed and leaned against the bed before replying, “I am feeling much better now, Your Highness.” The Emperor was still worried. While discussing with the Emperor about the horrid incident, Father entered the camp and approached me with a serious expression on his face. He said, “The guards have caught someone who was in the vicinity of the cliff. It would be surprising if you know who did this to you, my dear.” I was confused by my father’s statement but I understood that the matter was complicated.

My Father and the Emperor discussed the incident for a moment. At the end of the discussion, I noticed how pale the Emperor's face had turned. He looked completely upset by the discussion. “I wonder who the perpetrator was,” I thought to myself while lying in my bed. Feeling exhausted, I fell into a deep sleep again. I was awakened by the alarm that sounded. My Father, who was also resting, rose from his bed and approached my bed to check on me. When he noticed that I was wide awake, he said, “It is time for us to leave for the Palace now, my dear.” I nodded while replying, “Very well, Father. I will get ready now.” My Father then called out, “Who is out there? Please assist the Princess now.” The maids-in-waiting who were waiting outside the camp the whole time entered to groom me for the travel. As I got into the carriage, Yu Sifeng rushed to my side to carry me into the carriage. I obliged and allowed Yu Sifeng to assist me. My Father, who was standing outside the carriage called out, “Chandini, my dear.” I opened the window curtain of the carriage and answered, “Yes, father?” Looking at my Father who was still standing outside the carriage, I asked him with a confused expression on my face, “Are you not traveling with me?” “No, my dear. I have an important issue to discuss with the Emperor. I will leave the Emperor’s personal bodyguard with you. I think that he will protect you well,” my Father replied. I nodded in agreement and sat back in my seat in the carriage. Yu Sifeng was seated next to me. He kept himself alert the whole time we traveled together, looking outside the window for any mishap or enemy attack. I, on the other hand, sat quietly, wondering who the perpetrator was. Feeling curious, I asked Yu Sifeng, “Yu Sifeng, would you know who the perpetrator is?” Yu Sifeng turned to me and replied, “Pardon me, My Lady, but I was instructed to not discuss the event with you, My Lady. I think that it is good for your peace of mind as well.”

I nodded in agreement. I then kept my silence. The exhaustion from the fall made me doze off yet again. After what seemed like a long time, I woke up when the carriage came to a halt. I wriggled a little before opening my eyes. When I finally opened my eyes, I realized that I was lying on Yu Sifeng’s lap. Yu Sifeng was obviously embarrassed by my action as he avoided looking into my eyes and was looking away. I quickly rose from his lap and said while blushing again, “Oh dear! I am very sorry, Yu Sifeng. You must think of me as being very rude for sleeping on your lap.” Yu Sifeng replied while trying to ease my embarrassment, “I am your humble servant, My Lady. There is nothing to worry about.” Still feeling awkward about my action, I stepped outside of the carriage with Yu Sifeng. Father approached the carriage that I had traveled in to greet me. He said, “My dearest, I will have your bodyguard to escort you to your accommodation. I still need to have an important matter to settle at the Emperor’s court. It is quite urgent, you see. I will come to you once the matter is settled.” I was wondering why my Father was being secretive. “What is bothering my father?” I wondered to myself. Despite my curiosity, I replied to him, “Alright then Father. I will see you later, then.” I was then escorted to my accommodation.

It was nightfall when Father finally came to see me. I asked him, “What is bothering you, Father?” My father looked hesitant at first but he replied to me anyway. He said, “The perpetrator has been identified, my dear. It was the Emperor’s biological younger brother. He pushed you because he discovered the Emperor’s intention to wed you and have you crowned as the Empress. I was shocked when I learned of the Emperor’s intention although I did notice how he was giving you much attention.” My Father observed my reaction. I was shocked, of course. Never did I have any suspicion over the purpose behind the Emperor’s attention towards me. After observing my reaction, Father asked me, “Do you like the Emperor, my dear?” I gave his question a thought before replying, “I do like the Emperor for his respectful character. He is humble and honorable despite being the Emperor of such a rich country. However, I have never imagined that the Emperor would like me as a potential partner, Father.” Father took my reply into consideration and pondered for a while before saying, “If you like the Emperor as your potential partner, I will give my blessing because I don’t think I will be able to find a better partner than the Emperor himself.” I was surprised at Father’s response. I did not think that Father thought highly of the Emperor. I assumed that the Emperor had impressed my Father very much as a ruler and as a man.

After the conversation with my father, I was left in my room to rest. I laid on my bed while pondering upon Father’s question. “Do I find the Emperor attractive as a man?” I asked myself to which the answer was in the affirmative. In fact, the way I had blushed each time I caught the Emperor watching me was proof of mutual attraction between the Emperor and me. I smiled at the realization.

The next day, I was escorted to the dining hall. I enjoyed a hearty breakfast with the Emperor and my Father. After breakfast, the Emperor invited my Father and me to his room to discuss an important issue. The Emperor said, “My Lord, have you discussed with the Princess of my intention?” Father nodded and said, “Yes I have. You have my blessing for this union. Meet Akko

Akko offers the visitor exciting Jewish, Christian and Muslim historical sites as well as an amazing, oriental market and marine activities in the port. Much of the excitement is underground as one walks through underground crusader city as well as secret tunnels to the port. Add the Knights Halls, Okashi Art Museum, Turkish Bath, Templars’ Tunnel and Ramchal Synagogue to your bucket list. The Old City of Acre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

עַכּוֹ Akko (or Acco) in Hebrew and عكّا‎‎ Akka in Arabic, but was misnamed Acre by the crusaders who confused Akko with the Biblical city of Ekron. The Philistine god of Ekron was Beelzebub (Lord of the Flies) and indeed the crusaders renamed the Phoenician tower/lighthouse in the port of Akko –  “Tower of the Flies”. On my last visit my guide was a patriotic son of Akko who was very proud to lead us through centuries of history. Akko is fine for a family tour – children love it. The city also has plenty to offer if you prefer an in-depth tour.

The city originated in the Bronze period by Tel Akko, and was abandoned in the late Hellenistic period, when the new city moved closer to the sea.

Akko Panorama

My introduction to Akko begins with the panorama on Napoleon’s Hill. Why Napoleon? That’s simple, because Napoleon’s  unsuccessful siege of Ottoman Akko in 1799 was the turning point of Napoleon’s invasion of Egypt and Syria. It was one of Napoleon’s few defeats. The hill was also reused a brief period as a base for the siege of the Crusaders (1099).

In this panorama one can view the entire Haifa Bay with Mount Carmel in the background, modern roads and  a high-rise hotel.

The unfinished hotel seen in this video 0:05-0:10 has since been demolished.

Napoleon’s Hill is the ancient Tel Akko on the north bank of the Na’aman (Belus) river. Today, the site is in ruins. The neighborhoods of the modern city of Akko  are located to the east and north of the Tel.  On the western foothills  is the city’s  soccer field.

  Port of Akko

Acre’s first port was presumably located along the lower section of the Na’aman River. During the Muslim Period under Sultan Muawiya the sea walls were fortified and a large shipyard was built here. Egyptian ruler Achmad Ibn-Tulun (868-884) annexed the Land of Israel renovated the Port of Acre and its fortifications. During Crusader rule, the port of Acre played a central role. Its naval ties to the West were founded on this port, which was essential to its very existence. However after the Ottoman conquest, use of the port declined and it only served as a marina for fishing boats. In the late 17th century, Daher el-Omar tried renovated and fortified the city only to have the port destroyed during the shelling of Acre by the British and Austrian navies in 1840, when the breakwater wall and the Tower of Flies were damaged.

Once you reach the Acre port you can take a boat excursion out to sea or a pleasant ride in a horse-drawn carriage. The port area is lined with restaurants and cafes.

De plus, les dirigeants pieux ouvrent les portes et aident le destin. Ils offrent à d’autres personnes, jeunes, faibles et pauvres, la possibilité de réaliser leurs rêves et de réussir dans la vie. Ils élèvent les autres de l'insignifiance à l'importance par la grâce que Dieu leur a donnée. Par exemple, le prophète Samuel était un chef spirituel éminent en Israël. Il a été envoyé pour oindre David comme prochain roi d’Israël après Saül. Il a accompli sa mission de manière impressionnante. Par la suite, il a été un excellent mentor pour David. Ils sont venus se ranger du côté du Seigneur et eux et leurs familles ont vu leur histoire réécrite de manière positive.

The Mamluks ended Crusader rule in Acco in 1291. Napoleon understood the strategic value of this site. 第14回マルシェ開催しました！

10/11(日)、第14回目となる高知 蔦屋書店オーガニック・エコマルシェを開催しました！

今年2/9の開催以来、長いお休み期間を経て再開することができました。

蔦屋書店さんのテラスにて、作り手と売り手が直接交流できるオーガニック・エコマルシェがまた始まりました。

約8か月ぶりの再開で心配もありましたが、和やかな人と人とのやりとりがまたはじまるのを見てホッとしました。

お越しくださった皆様、ありがとうございました。  

『農楽ファーム』

新米の無農薬玄米、万次郎かぼちゃ、空芯菜、チャーテ、にんにく、ホーリーバジルなどが並んでいます。

『 Vegeful port 』

ベビーリーフミックスやルッコラ、ローズマリー、スイートバジル、ペパーミント、タイム、オレガノなど人気のフレッシュハーブがたくさん。

こちらは、バタフライピー。

水出しドリンクは、試飲できます。

アントシアニンが豊富で、美しいブルー。

『やくちファーム』

さつま芋(なると金時)、ネギ(赤ひげ)、間引き菜ミックスなど。

こちらは、落花生の塩茹で。品種はおおまさり。

試食できます。

ほくほく、ぶりぶりで美味しい。

「去年買っておいしかったから～」と来てくださったお客様も。

収穫期だけのお楽しみ、塩茹で落花生は今季終了です。

冬季のピーナッツバター登場をどうぞお楽しみに。

『かめきちファーム』

佐川大根の大根葉、みやまコカブ、土佐紅金時など、在来種や固定種を中心とした野菜が並んでいます。

『no,no,農園』

桑の葉、柿の葉、ドクダミなど野草茶が並ぶお店です。

店頭でミルを使ってクロモジを粉末にしていました。

さわやかで高貴なとってもいい香りです！

『 CASCINA IL CHICCO 』

古代小麦のフォカッチャやクッキーなどの焼菓子、高知県産棚田の米粉パンなど。

お昼ごはんに美味しくいただきました。

左はふかふかのフォカッチャ(上：玉ねぎ、下：オリーブ）。

平飼い卵とじゃがいものフリッタータは、しっかりした味付けで、ビー��やワインにも合いそうです。

『めぐみめぐる』

保湿や美肌など、男女問わず人気のシアバタークリーム。

マリ共和国からフェアトレードで仕入れたシアバターを加工して作っています。

『七八屋』

中村直司さんとヤマガタハロカさんの作品が並びます。

中村さんは、高知新聞に「人間広場ときどきねこ」を連載中。

ハロカさんによるかわいい紙物グッズのなかには、来年の干支、牛のポストカードもありました。

『 Tŷ Acco 』

エプロン、ふきん、テーブルクロスなどのほか、オーガニックコットンのコーヒーフィルターもあります。

『 MAY craft 』

クラフトバンドのかごバッグやイヤリングなどのアクセサリー。

バッグは、紙製とは思えないほど丈夫でしっかりした作りです。

このマルシェで販売されているものはすべて手作りで、作り手が直接販売しています。

生産者さんや作家さんと交流しながら、お買い物をお楽しみください。

出店者とスタッフはマスクを着用し、各ブースに消毒液を設置しています。

次回の開催は11月15日(日)です。
